Amores Verdaderos #90 Tue 3/19/13 Jealousy, bitterness, and . . . more jealousy
Seriously, we had a lot of jealousy tonight.
Summary (based on memory—you know how I roll!).
EVENTS MAY NOT BE LISTED IN ORDER. Feel free to add or correct recap in comments. (I know I can count on you guys!)
Refried: Big Angel doesn't get why Victoria didn't respond differently to his "confession" (of how there's a woman who has tempted him to stray from the straight and narrow), not realizing that Vicki HAS NO CLUE because he never said which woman was tempting him. "She doesn't know how much I love her" he says to himself (or some such).
The New: Big Angel packs his bags. He's outta there! But no sooner is he out the door than he's in again. He can't leave Vicki. Who will look after her?
He can't make a clean break! |
* Guzman Gambling Dad, Felipe, has spent a lovely dinner with Paula. He is wearing his heart on his sleeve and confesses that he's never stop loving her. Even when he was furious with her and thought he hated her, the love was underneath. He swears he can be a better man, and asks for her to give him a little hope. Paula is put on the spot and kindly says that "it was just a dinner!" He asks her if she still loves Anibal. She pauses and says, "I don't know."
* Nikki is wondering where her Little Ape is. She goes into the bodyguard salon where she enounters Big Angel. She says she wanted to talk to Guzman about where they were going tomorrow. He tells her Guzmancito is away for the night.
* Our Little Gorilla is witnessing Adriana get more and more baked at the restaurant. He seems cool and collected and is watching her carefully. She rambles on and gets sillier as the liquor keeps flowing. There's even a little hilarious bit about her purse being heavy—Guzmancito asks if it's "full of rocks" and she says, "Why yes!" LOL. Finally it's time to call it a night. She is too drunk to go to her hotel room by herself, so Little Gorilla escorts her there. Then finally he calls her on her flimsy facade at pretending to be a "friend" of Adriana and asks her, "Did you really think I wouldn't recognize you as Adriana? There are photos of you at the house!" He tells her he just wanted to know what she was up to. She immediately turns on the waterworks and begs him to understand her distress over losing her daughter. She confesses that she was planning on seducing him to glean info about her daughter, which she presumes Guzmancito knows about, since he had a chat with Anibal about his "granddaughter." Little Gorilla informs her that he was talking about Nikki the granddaughter. Oops, Adriana didn't get that part.
Pleading for his understanding. Fortunately the Little Ape is a pretty understanding guy. |
* While Guzman and Adriana were still at the restaurant (and Adriana is getting herself baked) a jealous Nikki calls his cell to check up on him, while of course being as obnoxious as possible and never admitting that she cares about where he is and what he's doing. He points out that he's in a place with music (presumably a social outing) so she ups the ante and pretends that she's with Roy the Boy and he's getting frisky with her. Guzmancito hangs up on her.
The Little Ape is not in the mood for Nikki's shenanigans. |
Nikki has a midnight date with a large tub of ice cream as she cries in jealousy—where is my Little Ape? Where where where? |
* Vicki goes to her room dressed in a flattering blue nighty and The Furry Fornicator tries to get frisky too, all the time lying about how she is the only woman he wants. She doesn't buy it, rebuffs his advances, and goes to her studio to sleep.
* Meanwhile back at Adriana's room, she is begging the Little Gorilla to understand her plight. He gets her some coffee. She begs him to not leave her alone that night.
* Somehow Big Angel manages to have a late-night visit with Opalina, to advise him on his situation. He laments that Vicki didn't seem to give a crap about his "confession." Opalina tells him what will be will be. But he doesn't want this! He wishes he could go back to a time when he was living in the country with his wife and daughter. She tells him that nothing is going to happen right away, and to rest on it. He says he will.
He is so conflicted and confused about what's going on in his life. |
"What will be will be!" |
* Salsa-Dude is vexed that Kendra is trying to mess things up between him and Beatriz. He ominously cleans his gun while vowing to stop Kendra. (You're making us nervous again, Salsa-Dude! Hopefully this is just a false alarm, like it was when you covetously looked at Anibal's checkbook last week. You're still on the road to redemption, right? RIGHT?)
Still bearing the wounds from his beating, Salsa-Dude is also not in the mood for a capricious woman's shenanigans. (And note the bare arms! What a departure for our black-clad anti-hero.) |
* It's morning, and Adriana is neatly tucked into bed with a modest-looking white cotton nightie (it looked like) and Guzmancito brings her breakfast on a tray. (Methinks that our straight arrow Little Gorilla slept on the couch!) She is ashamed at how she behaved the night before. He doesn't seem too put out. She thanks him for the breakfast in bed and these two seem to be forming some sort of respectful friendship. She admits that he is not the "spying" type (he agrees) but if he just so happens to pick up some info . . . he says he will help if he can. They exchange cell numbers.
Breakfast in bed. If we didn't know these two characters better, this could look very incriminating! |
* The kitchen in the Balvanera house seems to be the epicenter of activity early in the morning. Nicki is binging on some food. She has to hide the food and pretend when Thomasina catches her there—but Thomasina has a knowing look and doesn't seem fooled. Salsa-Dude comes to the kitchen in bad humor and grouches at everyone. Then Big Angel comes in and (I think it's Thomasina) notes that he doesn't look like he slept. He defensively said he slept well. Vicki comes in looking grouchy too. It seems like everyone's previous day was crappy and everyone slept poorly (whether they admit it or not!).
Just admit it. Everyone slept like crap. |
* We have some scenes with Kendra pouting and posing in skimpy trampywear disguised as wedding gowns at the tourist town. (Which looks gorgeous! Book me a flight!) Christina is a pain in the neck and flutters around. Gratuitous shots of Kendra posing, and of the beach. We see in the audience of onlookers at the fashion show, an elegant-looking middle-aged man who seems to be giving meaningful looks at Kendra. Hmmm. . . what does this signify?
Beautiful shot of the beach. |
Kendra in some goofy-looking dress with a lighthouse in the background. |
* Nikki still doesn't know where the Little Ape is, or where he's been. Jean Marie has prepared some yummy-looking bread and offers it to Lili, who has just entered the kitchen. Nikki is in total full-bitch mode and first gripes at Jean Marie (threatening his job!) for offering to feed moocher Lili. Then Nikki bitches at Lili and says she'll be fat as a cow soon if she keeps eating (and implies she's on her way already to bovine proportions). BITCH! Lili fortunately is unfazed and says that she's one of these lucky people who can eat all day and not gain anything. (Captas, Nikki?) Big Angel enters the kitchen and greets Lili, asking her how she did last night, being alone in the apartment (since mom was away). She says it was okay, since Guzmancito was there for a while. Nikki's got a little jealous dim bulb lighting over her head and she jumps to a conclusion—obviously the Little Ape spent the night with Lili! She drapes herself over Lili and advises her to fess up to dad. Lili protests but Big Angel explodes and freaks. Lili has to calm him down and say that Guzmancito was at the house briefly last night but left and then Bea came home. Big Angel is somewhat mollified but still freaked a bit. With doubts cast upon the theory that Guzman and Lili spent the night, Nikki and everyone else wonder—where did the Little Ape spend the night? Viewerville suspects that the night he spent (probably on the couch!) at Adriana's room is going to cause much drama down the road.
The bruja, in a fit of jealousy, tries to stir up trouble. |
* At the office, Vicki is icy to poor Big Angel. He goes to sit down in his chair in her office, but she tells him to go sit outside. He's like que que what? He doesn't get why she's like this. She coldly says she's busy and wants to be alone. He refuses to go and asks if she wants him out of her life, and if so, he'll quit. She sputters and says no, she doesn't want him to quit. She does, however, want him to be more up front with her and not keep secrets. She wants him to trust her. He wonders why she would say that, when he already spilled his guts and shared "his feelings"! Oblivious to what he's referring to (meaning he confessed his feelings towards her) she stiffly replies, no, she wants to know about the THIRD daughter of Anibal! Oops! Big Angel looks impactado.
They're still suffering from a massive communication malfunction. |
END OF EPISODE!
Avances: Looks like Must See TV! There's something with that sophisticated middle-aged guy at the fashion show coming on (?) to Christina? I think it's a setup?
Labels: Amores
And the 'ikkis are still PMSing.
LOL when JA packed his bags, walked down the hall, then came back in and unpacked.
JA's unpacking technique was a hoot. Bless his heart.
Anyone else hear anvils clanging when Opalina told JA that things would be more clear the next morning, and HE CAREFULLY REPEATED THAT SENTENCE BACK TO HER?
I literally cackled with glee when Guzman hung up on Nikki. Loved it.
Vikki needs to wear a football jersey or some ratty old tee shirt to bed, or even a locked chastity belt, if she's going to sleep in the same room with the FF. Why hasn't she gotten a more comfortable sleeping couch for her studio?
Elvira: Insightful, fresh, vibrant and funny. You hit every note perfectly. As soon as I laid eyes on your picture perfect image of JA, my day was made. Exceptional screen shots.
"puddle of self-delusion", "...a midnight date with a large tub of ice cream" and "capricious woman's shenanigans" were but a few of my favorites.
Opalina's "She tells him that nothing is going to happen right away" may have been last night's most important declaration. Although JA and Vicky are clearly in love, they are both bound by strict moral codes. Perhaps the misunderstandings and miscommunications are a blessing, as they are the only things keeping them apart. They can only be together once they are free to to do so as they could not live with themselves, or each other, any other way.
Elvira, I can't say I'm not concerned where Santino and Kendra are concerned. He warned her (with the implicit threat of further violence) to leave Bea alone. He will not tolerate her meddling further...
While I state (grudgingly) that Kendra did look good last night, I was perplexed by the '80's white lace gloves. Fashion faux pas?
Enjoyed Francisco's kindness and understanding toward Adri. The beginning of a friendship...
So Paula doesn't know if she is still in love with Anibal?? Perhaps he is suave and sophisticated but he is sick. 'nuff said.
Yes, it appears Kendra has nefarious plans for the photo of Cris with the handsome gentlemen.
Love Tomi. She clearly sees what is happening and is clearly enjoying Vicky's failure to see the truth for what it is.
Doris, still chuckling at "And the 'ikkis are still PMSing".
Thanks again Elvira.
Diana
Poor Angel. Still miscommunicating! And Ms Vikki with the jealousy. I too think that Tomi is the only sensible person in the epi. Tomi is so down to earth, I'm surprised she just didn't come out and tell Ms Vikki she thought Ms Vikki is in love with the Angel.
Nikki was a little brat this epi. Trying to get our Litte Orchid in a mess of trouble. I had to laugh when Guzmi held the phone up so Nikki could hear the music, like he was telling her I too have a life. She'll give him such a hard time when he comes back to work.
Loved the brioche that Jean Marie made. And shame on Nikki for what she said to Little Orchid. But I like what Little Orchid told her in reply. She really know how to stand up for herself.
FF has got to go already! I bet he was texting Kendho when Ms Vikki came in and like what she told him about getting a little somethin' somethin' from his amante, cause Ms Vikki's train has left the station, lol.
I too think that the pic of Lili and that guy is a setup by Kendho. Poor Cris doesn't know what she got into by working for Kendho.
Can't wait to see what the Angel tells Ms Vikki about he third sister!
I fell so far behind that it's taken me weeks to catch up.
I really hope that Salsero doesn't do anything too rash. Even though I think everyone could live peaceably if Leo were "taken care of," it would hurt Beatrice and Guillo too much if Salsero chose to take it in his own hands.
Oh my, will Victoria and Jose Angel confess their feelings openly and without any of this silly miscommunication within the next few episodes? Or is that just wishful thinking on my part?
Christina had better watch her back with conniving KendHo. I saw those meaningful looks between her and the skeezy guy too. Christina's in for troubled times ahead, I think.
Roy's mom (I forget her name) had better come clean to Victoria soon-preferably before Nikki and Roy make their engagement official.
“Yeah yeah, Ms. Thou Doth Protest Too Much, yeah you.”
“leaves Vicki in her puddle of self-delusion”
Hey, Cris was working last night, maneuvering her way through the crowd to bring her patrona a bottle of water.
Nikki can argue with Guzman all she likes, but she better leave Little Orchid alone. I hate that she tries to give Little Orchid her own self-image problem. Love that Little Orchid ain't having it. Wished Little Orchid had clocked her.
I’m betting that Salsero won't doing anything crazy to Kendra. It’s just that cleaning his gun helps him think better. Some of us vacuum, others clean their gun.
Hmmm, Adriana hasn’t had a relationship with a guy since she was 15 years old. And she felt comfortable enough with Guzman to ask him not to leave her alone. What a hoot when Guzman asked if her bag was full of rocks.
Those wedding dresses were way over the top too. The only one I half way liked was the first one Kendho wore, with the twenties style lace head covering. If they hadn't put all the flesh toned lace in the middle of that dress it would have been gorgeous. I hated that last dress with the frou frou ruffles and why was she gathering it when she was walking? It was sooo short already, jus' sayin'.
I like how Opalina is the catalyst for things to come, so to speak. I too was intrigued by what she and the Angel were talking about.
That first bride dress Kendra wore was interesting. I thought the cluster of lace right over both boobs, giving them the "headlights" look, was rather over-the-top. I liked and hated it at the same time.
The telenovela wardrobe design people really know their stuff. They knew exactly how to dress the other brides so that they were just wallpaper and Kendra stood out. They also knew to put Cris in that hot pink dress so that she stood out in the crowd.
And I still drool over the 'ikkis' wardrobe. Both of theirs. Best clothing I ever remember seeing in a telenovela. JMO of course.
(I wish there was a way to edit our posts for typos, without having to delete and repost. Gah)
Some favorites -- Tomasina "(aka The Only Sensible Person in This Episode)" -- which is especially funny because Tomi is a bit of a flake.
Guz asking Adri if her heavy purse "is full of rocks and she says "why yes."
[Was I the only one yelling at the tv during the hotel scene: SHOW HIM THE ROCKS!!! ?]
"You're making us nervous again, Salsa-Dude!"
"Kendra pouting and posing in skimpy trampwear disguised as wedding gowns."
[Although I think she looked gorgeous even if it's impossible to imagine the dresses being worn by any real person.]
And I think you're right about the potential for misunderstandings arising from Frankie's night with Adri. Cuz in a telenovela, no good deed goes unpunished, right?
Great comment about the Nikki/Lili scene:
"Nikki can argue with Guzman all she likes, but she better leave Little Orchid alone. I hate that she tries to give Little Orchid her own self-image problem. Love that Little Orchid ain't having it. Wished Little Orchid had clocked her."
I think it's worth mentioning that scenes like this one work because these young actresses are so good. Both have us believing completely in these characters.
By the way, using the Niecie-Balzac Scale, (a. no; b. yes), I'd say this was a successful episode.
"Oh my, will Victoria and Jose Angel confess their feelings openly and without any of this silly miscommunication within the next few episodes? "
Wouldn't that be the end of telenovelas as we know them?
What an astute observation you made:
"Perhaps the misunderstandings and miscommunications are a blessing, as they are the only things keeping them apart. They can only be together once they are free to to do so as they could not live with themselves, or each other, any other way."
Doris,
I actually cackled, giggled and hooted out loud at several points last night. Guzmán hanging up on Nikki WAS great. But you have to admit, the Rock in my Pocketbook think was priceless.
I was hoping Nikki would open the Estefano cupboard door when she stashed the cookie tin (though maybe she wouldn't even have noticed the pin-up photo inside.)
Mads,
I was also glad to see Frankie as a true gentleman to Adriana last night, rescuing her from herself. (Though it was amazing she was feeling "better" in the morning -- I would have expected the crudo that devoured Cleveland after all that champagne). Frankie needed a bit of image buffing. He has been scowling and jaw-clenching a bit much lately, no? The actors (Rulli and Esperón) play well together, I think.
You're still on the road to redemption, right? RIGHT?
A midnight date with a large tub of
ice cream.
They're still suffering from a massive communication malfunction.
Great--just great all the way through the recap---Elvira, thanks.
Looks like Christina is being set up. Will this be the downfall of her and JA? Will a picture with the handsome guy on the beach be the "excuse" needed for JA to take up with Vikki?
Niecie in MD---Cris was working bringing her patrona a bottle of water. LOL
ITA---Nikki had better not mess with Little Orchid unless she wants to have her clock cleaned.
Dona Gringuita---I'm with you about "spoiled brat Nikki." Brat is going to have to change BIG TIME
big time before I will fawn over a Nikki/Guzman pairing. Little Orchid
is ten times the woman Nikki is so
fot those on team Nikki/Guzman team
I say, to each his own. let the novela roll.
the gringo
I could not stop laughing when Guzman asked if Adri had rocks in her heavy purse. Best scene of the night for me. :) That showed me that these writers have a sense of humor about this show-- not like we couldn't tell before. Definitely a wink and a smile at the audience.
All the Guzman-Adri scenes were good, and I look forward to those two becoming friends. It should turn more interesting once they realize the relationship between their parents.
I was very annoyed at Nikki for trying to pull the same body image mind games, that she acknowledges sent her down the path of low self esteem and an eating disorder, on Lili. Good for Lili for being strong enough and confident enough to let that crap roll right off her back. It's always funny watching the two of them go at it though, with the crazy height difference between the two.
When I was looking back at the comments from the first week of Una Familia con Suerte, someone expressed shock that Sherlyn was once again playing a teen, like she has been for the past 10+ years, and that she must have found a fountain of youth somewhere (or made a deal with the devil). Well, here she is, at the age of 27, once again playing a teenager. I wonder if she gets tired of it? Eiza is five years younger than she is and is playing someone older than Sherlyn.
About Sherlyn still playing teenagers -- remember the conversation between Polita and LIli a few episodes back in which the two complain that everyone* treats them like children and not grown women? Lili asks Polita if she thinks it's because they are short.
*Of course by EVERYONE, they mean Guzmán. :)
Anatomy (and physiognomy) is destiny in the world of telenovelas. And maybe in the real world too.
Guau! Lucky you!
:)
Adri and the rocks in the purse was too funny. Hasn't one of the bodyguards missed their gun yet? Wasn't it the Angel's gun she five finger discounted? He is the only one that really doesn't carry the gun. I know Frankie and Santino never leave home without it. Have gun will travel in other words.
Figuritively speaking I kind of want to slap/shake Victoria and scream "He's talking about you Idiota." Hope that's not too rude, but come on how can she not know after all the kodak and intimate moments they have shared together. Come on!
I didn't too much care for the Adriana and Guzman scene just because it was kind of weird for me since I'm so use to Guzman being there for Nikki. And the whole staying the night at her place, like really and then serving her breakfast... That was just too much for them to just barely know each other even though Adriana is Victoria's sister whom he works for. Just weird to me, that's all I'm saying.
Adriana is SUPER nice though. :)
Nikki made me laugh with her scens and calling Guzmancito. I didn't like her either saying what she said to Liliana about her weight and getting fat, Mala.
I didn't know Sherlyn was older tha Eiza until I looked it up when the televisa began, I freaked out. She definitely doesn't look it and good for her. I'm sure it's easier for her to play those roles with the height and young look of hers.
I also freaked out when I found out Sebastian Rulli is 37 and Eiza is 23, So crazy. I wondered how they pulled this off with their major age difference. Sebastian is another who looks A-M-A-Z-I-N-G for his age, just saying :)
Team Nikki/Guzmancito
Besides ALL the phrases mentioned, I liked: Rant rant rant; Adriana getting baked at the restaurant; the midnight date (something I can relate to.....); note the bare arms....(I did); she drapes herself all over Lili (with her long arms and stands about a head taller, too, with those spiky heels--at 7:30 am in the morning, too[just guessing])
I noticed that Opalina is a superb advice giver. She never once told Angel *what* was going to happen or *what* he should do. Of course, some of that may be in the interest of self-preservation--she doesn't want him coming back to her if it doesn't turn out that way. She *has* gone out on a limb and told Adri her daughter is alive and Big Angel tht he is going to have a son. But all this Vikki-Crissy stuff is just follow your heart-it'll happen-patience-wait until morning. Clever girl.
Vic in Tex--Of course, we all agree with you. But, please give Big A & Ms Vikk a little room for doubt. Vikki's most recent "interaction" with the Big A was seeing him in the arms of another woman. That's what she's reacting to. Big A, we deduce, is not used to talking about his own feelings, especially ones that get dangerously close to infidelity, so he got all tongue-tied.
The beach scene was oh so funny. We got a free fashion show--of Kendra. There were almost more ladies on the sandy runway than there were sitting in the audience--muy exclusivo, I guess. And what was all that dipping into the ocean...those were expensive designer dresses they were ruining.
I can't wait for Carlos' reaction to the show. When I saw Kendra's hat, I thought it made her look exotic and appealing, then I saw the dress. It looked like two scallop shells had attached themselves to her breasts. Ah, well, what do I know, I'm a long way away from weddings, wedding dresses or destination weddings.
Now he just needs to lose that "fashionable" 5-day-5-o'clock shadow and I'd add him to my pin-up gallery.
Another thing why is divorce proceedings taking a long time in most telenovelas?
I have seen divorces in about 3 TN's I think. The fastest one was in PVAA it took less than a week. I think this one is taking a long time cause Ms Vikki and FF haven't even filed yet. They are putting on a sham marriage for Nikki's sake. Also Guzmi never filed for divorce from Amber, his wife in the States. The only other divorce I saw was in Refugio and that one didn't take very long either. Oh, I just remembered I did see another divorce in DA and that one took a very, loooonnnggg time. The divorce was between Rod and Issa.
Team Nikki/Guzmancito
My favorite line was when you called Nikki a BITCH.
Definitely agree as far as Guzmancito's wardrobe. Honestly though I find his irresistible regardless Lol
Team Nikki/Guzmancito
Team Nikki/Guzmancito
Team Nikki/Guzmancito
I thought that Kendra was absolutely stunning in that first outfit... the second with the poofy skirt was rather strange. The first thing that came to mind was an ill-groomed poodle.
I thought both Nikki and Luciana were delightful last night. Ididn't like Nikki with the ice cream but she didn't seem quite as frantic with that as she has been with other foods previously.
The blond guy with Cristina... eurotrash... Noooooooo!!!
Rocks... funny, Guzmancito.
