Amor Bravío #165 (Uni 160) Wed 4/10/13 ULTIMOS CAPITULOS “ A Fall to Grace is the Saving Grace From an Obscene Obsession, the Photo Illuminates All Alibis, and the Knock on the Door Opens to Evil on Either Side”

Women’s Prison:  The crowd at on the prison yard is loud and chaotic.  Agustina takes the opportunity to climb the stairs of the water tower undetected. She stands in the dark at the top of the water tower, looks skyward and prays for forgiveness.  She tells the Great Deliverer In the Sky to forgive her – that she is doing this to save Camila from sacrificing her beloved ranch and the dignity of her own body to Demonic Dio.   Looking from the ground up to the tower, the crowd of prisoners watches horrified, as Agustina hurls herself from the top of the tower to the ground below.  The prisoners watch her fall to her demise, stunned into silence.   The yard remains silent for one moment longer.  Then all at once, there is a commotion among the prison comrades.  The mother-who-sacrificed-her-freedom-for-her-son prisoner tells the guards to hurry and call for help and call Agustina’s daughter that is what she wanted.  The guards push through the crowd to clear the area and to radio for medical assistance.  A suspicious guard questions the mother-who-sacrificed-her-freedom-for-her-son prisoner if she had knowledge about this in advance.  If so, she scolds her, this tragedy could have been avoided.  Our prisoner replies that this was Agustina’s final wish. She adds that her cellmate Carmela has a letter that Agustina wrote and it is to be delivered immediately to her daughter Camila.  The crowd is being cleared as as Agustina is splayed on the prison yard, blood trickling from her nose and mouth.

Dio’s Den of Iniquity [Reminder of Previous Reader Warning: It is recommended that viewerville not have recently eaten anything mildly upsetting to the stomach as viewing may aggravate the stomach lining resulting in rapid regurgitation]:  Camila has arrived to the “upchuck - $#$@” [fill in with whatever rhyming vulgarities fit for a vulgarity that is Dio] and Disgusting Dio offers her a drink.  She declines.  He perversely tells her she should relaaaxxx and that if she does she might surprise herself and enjoooyyyyyy herself.  She replies that he has no idea how disgusting he is to her and she wonders how he could imagine someone could want to be with him under such duress (obligacion) and only to save someone they love (from his illicit manipulations).  He says that sometimes there is no alternative and that it is this or nothing.  He recalls for her that he had tried to get close to her and that the more he tried, the more she rejected him.  She has no idea how many hours he had fantasized about her – about smelling, touching and kissing her.  [Pullleeeezzz – someone kick him where it counts, poison him with his Cialis – just make him stop!]  Camila bravely asks him to get the “upchuck-@$#%” over with.  Dio say, he in turn wants this to last foreverrrr (eterno).   Nooo, he slimes, this experience with her is like a fine wine that he wants to enjoy little by little.   [Throw up on him, spit on him, stick your fingers in his eyes!].  Dio slithers up to her and removes her leather jacket revealing that she is wearing her ranch attire.  Apparently, Dio has a different picture of her in his mind – he hands her a  bag with his earlier purchase of clothing for her.  She desperately pleas with him to stop the humiliation and just get it over with….. Disgusting Dio refuses and says he wants her to look even more beautiful than she already.  He adds, that if she wants her mother free and dearly beloved Daniel alive, she needs to smile all the while.  Apparently doomed to complete Dio’s perverse fantasy she takes the bag and leaves to change.  He laughs a vicious laugh – he is pleased by his own wicked fantasy.

Chiapas:  Blessedly, the editors transport viewerville to the beauty and peace of Chiapas.  Aaron and various community members are gathered around the table to eat together.  Luzma participates in preparing the table.  Nat is helping somewhere else while Luzma tells Aaron he has done so much for others.  She calls him a “ser de luz”, or something like a being of light which suits him just fine.    Aaron assures her that he is just another person.  He adds that, in time, she and Nat will regain their smiles.  He tells Luzma that it is one thing to miss someone, it is another to hold tight and clasp at someone (afarrarse).  He advises that she will learn to “live lighter”.  Luzma pauses to reflect on how much she misses Pablo.  She tells herself she doesn’t know how she will learn to live without his presence.  Pablo reflects, in turn, about Luzma.  He misses her and is certain that she can return and live more at ease once LeoSordido is caught.

Dio’s Den of Iniquity:  Dio knocks on the bedroom where Camila is supposed to change into her night-mare-wear.  He asks if everything is ok.  As she sits on the bed, likely trying to transport her mind from the nightmare she is facing , the scene switches to the prison hospital room.  A barely alive Agustina is being attended to by medical staff as the warden looks on.   The doctor says her pulse is weak. She predicts  that Agustina is near death - no one knows how long she has to live.  The warden advises that her family be notified of her pending fate.

Kitchen of La MQ:  Dorotea comes in anxiously searching for Camila.   She cannot be found in her cabana. Los Rancheros worry about La Patrona wandering at night alone on the ranch or the surrounding lands with Isa and LeoSordido on the loose.  The kitchen phone rings –  Piedad answers.  It is the jail calling to inform them that Agustina has had an accident and fallen down some stairs.  She is near death.  Piedad promises to give Camila the message and informs Los Rancheros of this news.

Dio’s Den of Iniquity:  Camila emerges, trancelike, clad in Dio’s idea of slinky black evening nightmare-wear.   Dio gazes at her with perverse admiration of her and tells her she looks beautiful.  He notices that she continues to wear her trademark bull necklace and points it out to her.  She protests his repeated humiliation of her as he grooms her to suit his evil fantasy.  Dio relents over this detail and approaches her.  He stands behind her and begins to caress and kiss her shoulders as she hyperventilates. The sound of Satan growling rumbles and Camila stands shuddering in disgust and mortification……. [Viewerville clutches its collective stomach in one hand while reaching for weapons suitable for  a anesthetic free orchidectomy] ….  The tension is ripped apart when Camila’s cell phone rings out.  She cringes from his touch and insists she must answer this call -  just this call.  He protests that this is his night and while relenting, he tells her that her phone will be turned off after she takes this one call.  It is Piedad and she informs Camila of her mother’s accident and that Agustina is now barely clinging to life.  Camila firmly states she will be there –Disgusting Dio is shocked and dismayed.  He tells her he is refusing to let her leave until they do what she has come to do for him.  She is adamant as she tells him her mother is near death and ….. she ….. will ….. go ….to ……her.   He threatens that she is putting her loved ones at risk. Our Camila’s spirit is strong and she raises her chin and voice in opposition and tells him  … she ….does ….  not…… care.  He insists she must return or put the ones she loves at risk.  She leaves the scene of Disgusting Dio’s crime as Dio realizes that his fantasy has slipped through his fingers and that his recent ingestion of multiple pills of a certain nature will remind him of this for several hours to come.

Hospital del Pueblo:  CayeTanAliviado has been transported to the hospital and is alive and resting.  The doctor advises him to rest, eat a bland diet and drink mucho agua [Note:  He would be wise to check carefully for any lingering bitter aftertaste until IsaVibora is securely incarcerated].  Rocio tells him that she is glad that Isa did not succeed with her plan to kill him as the family would really miss him.  CayeTanAliviado admits that Rocio tried to warn him but he would not listen to her.  He knows that Isa only wanted his fortune and that by letting her into his life he has caused a lot of problems.  Rocio assures him that everyone commits errors and not to torment himself.  They must all  must face the consequences.  She takes the moment to plead for his forgiveness anew.  He tries to avoid the topic but she persists.  She says she is regretful for her arrogance and because he was such a great man with her as he looks and listens in disbelief of her new attitude.  She explains that hitting bottom makes one see things differently.  He agrees that they have both committed great errors.  He reaches for and kisses her hand and they agree they can work to turn things around, together.   Ana, Mariano, Refugio and Pablo move closer to CayeTanAliviado’s bedside to share in a breath of forgiveness air.

Viv and Rafa’s Place:  Rafa,Viv and Dan discuss with one another that Agustina has had an accident and is in dire condition.  Viv and Rafa plan to travel to the jail immediately.  They banter with Dan about the prudence of his accompanying them.  Dan insists he has to go.  Dan’s dilemma is solved when he receives his own call from the prison requesting his presence on behalf of the fading Agustina.

Rat-Infested Hotel (of the two-legged variety):  Room service arrives for Isa and she complains about the rathole hovel (cuchitril) she is being forced to stay at.   Isa  worries that she must make Dio turn over LaMQ in her name, as well as his, to the developers.  She obsesses about his obsession with Camila when he could be obsessing about her.   She complains about being trapped in this pigsty of a hotel.  Downstairs, LeoSordido is passes a note inquiring where he can find “la guera”.  He pays off the clerk to tell him where Sra Isa’s room is located.  He smacks his lips (for lack of a tongue in which to lick them) with the satisfaction that his revenge is so close.  The skinny rat clerk tells Leo not to make trouble for him.

Women’s Jail:  Camila arrives at the jail.  Although still clad in her night-mare-wear, she has been able to cover herself with the comfort of her leather jacket.   She asks at the desk after her mother – they recognize her and arrange to let her in to see the failing Agustina after she turns in her valuables.

Dio’s Den of Iniquity-Interruptus: Dio curses Agustina’s timing to sacrifice her life for Camila’s welfare.  He is enraged for having lost his manipulative power over Camila by way of her mother’s freedom.   With her pending death, her freedom from jail is now a moot point.  No, he reassures himself, there is still Dan to be used as leverage.  Dio orders Omar to pack the bags and ready the cars because they are quitting this town. Omar wonders why but Dio offers no explanation. QTH?  Dio wonders what his Plan B will entail to force Camila, again, to follow through with la prometida sordida (his sordid fantasy).

Women’s Jail:  Agustina insists on an assurance that Camila did not end up giving Disgusting Dio La MQ and the dignity of her body.  Camila swears that she has not and then hears for the first time that Dio had visited Agustina to inform her of his sordid plans.  Agustina says she knows Camila was going to give in to him even though she had promised Agustina she would not.  She hoped Camila has not given in because otherwise her sacrifice will have been in vain.  Agustina pronounces that she has exchanged her life for Camila’s.  It is her gift to her along with a letter to explain herself.   Dying, is not a gift, pleads Camila.  She refuses to believe that Agustina will die.  Agustina says that what she did was not a sacrifice and that love is not a sacrifice.  For whatever reason the Divine Deliverer allowed her to see Camila one more time and for this Agustina is content.  No, despite all, Agustina says she will die happy knowing Dio did not win.  She adds that she will not rest in peace until she can speak to Dan, one last time.   Tears pour from Camila.

Dan and Miriam’s Casita:  Miriam and Caridad are busy packing for the return trip to Chile.  As Miriam fills a travel bag with goods from the medicine cabinet a photo drops to the floor.  Miriam picks up the photo from the floor and looks closely -  she is shocked – a close-up reveals it is a photo of Dan and Camila.  She realizes they are dressed in wedding clothes.  QTH? They were in a wedding together?

Women’s Jail:  Agustina continues with the last testament of her wishes and regrets – she could not have lived with the guilt if Dio was successful with his crime against Camila.  Dan arrives and approaches her bedside.  Agustina begs his forgiveness and admits that if she had had confidence in him, none of this would have happened.  Uncle Dan Sr had been right to trust and seek Dan’s help.  Dan says he is devastated he has not been able to do more, that he feels powerless to help Camila.  Camila begs Agustina to stop her worries and talking – she does not want her any more harm to herself.  Agustina continues with her regrets and laments that because of her,  Dio was successful with invading their bond.  She declares that her death will be a test of how much she loves Camila.  Camila  struggles to accept her words.   Agustina asks for and receives Dan’s forgiveness.  She says she knows what she did goes against the laws of the Divine Deliverer, but she did it to save her daughter.  She begs him to protect Camila until Dio is in jail.  Camila, ever aware of Dan’s pending departure, reminds her that Dan will return to Chile within days.  Regardless, Dan agrees to Agustina’s request and she rests her head on her pillow.  “Te amo mijita,” she says.  Agustina breathes her last breath.

Dan and Miriam’s Casita :  Miriam alternately cries and wails about why everyone has chosen to hide the truth from her.  Caridad waves smelling salts under her nose to keep her alert.   She reflects on all the pieces of evidence - all suddenly making sense -  that Dan and Camila have much more of a relationship that had been told to her.  They were married! Suddenly, everything that was bewildering to Miriam now makes sense.  Although the clouds have cleared, Miriam cannot understand “ the why” of  she has been being deceived by Dan and by everyone else around her. She could understand this truth since Dan thought she had died, but she cannot understand the deception that has been perpetrated on her.  Caridad fails to console her and frets about Miriam’s well-being.  She runs to call Dan and alert him and succeeds only in leaving a message.

Women’s Jail:  Camila cries out to Dan that “Dio killed her”.  She hysterically cries that they must go after Dio together.  Dan attempts to hold and comfort her.  She falls into his arms sobbing.

Kitchen of La MQ:  Los Rancheros talk about Agustina and how she was a good person.  That is, until Dio was around - then she became a different person.  They wonder what they can do.  The ladies suggest they can pray for Agustina’s well-being.  Eleuterio attempts to excuse himself, but the fellows insist he join the impromptu rosary and prayers to La Virgencita.

Women’s Jail:  Now outside Agustina’s room, Camila says she is now, truly alone.  Dan tells her he will always be with her in one way or another.  No, she has no one – not him, not Ximena, not her uncle.  Dan assures Camila that her mother did such a noble thing to save her from Dio. He knows that Camila was ready to do whatever it took to save her mother.  She does not disagree but says she would do what she had to to save those she loves.  He urges her to find the force within to live and not to let Dio win and make Agustina’s sacrifice be for nothing. Dan says he will talk to Sr Estevez so that Dio will end up being charged with fraud.  She agrees.  She replies, sadly, that he will return to Chile.  No, Dan says, he will convince Miriam to delay the trip and he will leave Mexico when he knows Camila is healthy and safe.  Camila reflects on how so much ambition has led to so much pain and so many deaths.

Rat-Infested Hotel (now including at least two of the two-legged variety):  Isa continues to complain about her circumstances.   There is a knock on the door.   She mutters, approaches and opens the door.  Revenge has come for a visit and may stay awhile.  Revenge – LeoSordido is thy name.

Women’s Jail:  Viv and Rafa comfort Camila.  She cries and affirms that her heart has been broken.  As her heartbreak is shared with her companeros, Dan steps away in his now familiar need to call and to check-in with Miriam.  She answers and curtly tells him they need to talk.  He informs her of Agustina’s death.  She sends Camila her condolences – it is not lost on her that Dan is, yet again, at Camila’s side.  Dan wonders why Miriam sounds so strange.  He asks if she needs a doctor.  She says that there is no medicine for the pain that she has.  They agree to talk when he finishes helping with the funeral arrangements.

Hotel del KarmicJusticia:  LeoSordido has Isa bound to a chair and gagged.  She is begging through her mouth filled with cloth, for him to let her go.  He presses his lips to hers and rips open her blouse.  He toys with her – with his knife and with his sick and twisted smirk.  He pours a tall glass of acid solution as if to have her take a deep swallow of it.  Instead, he pours the acid slowly over her hands that are in her lap.  Smoke rises from the seared flesh and even LeoSordido is repelled by the ghastly sight and smell.   He recoils in disgust – the camera freezes on his gruesome visage as the capitulo ends for the night.

Mena,

What an episode! My processor is burning up and I’d like to send some malware to Metepec. Meanwhile, I wanted to say I’m going to miss our time together. Sniff! Sniff!

Dell

Dear Dell,

Yes, thanks for covering for me when I suggested a bad word. He had it coming. Don't worry Dell we'll think of something. Maybe we can spend time with our friends Mac and Hewy P? You'd like some time for fun and friends wouldn't you? You can go to sleep and blow bubbles for now.

Mena

Friends, Lurkers and Fellow Recappers, Thanks for giving me the privilege of serving you as a newbie recapper. I thoroughly enjoyed the ride! I hope to read more cleverness and wit while I hang around CarayVille. Who knows, maybe I'll show up on a recap somewhere?

Mena

Mena thanks so much for recapping this very difficult episode and your work on this TN. You've been great and I hope we do see you again!

Though Agustina's sacrifice did spare Cam, what a heart wrenching episode. The phone call saved Cam and all of us from severe stomach problems. I think the story is going to have to jump in time b/c Cam must have time to recover from her mother's death [this is a guess].

The arrogance of Dio and Isa is now catching up with them. He ponders Agustina's timing while he was so full of himself he told her what he was going to do. He under-estimated her and will never be able to execute plan B.

If Dio is present for the exchange of LMQ, he's going to get arrested b/c of the clause he doesn't know about and hopefully by that time the Scoobies will have other changes against him. I hope he is not quickly killed. Actually if horrible Leo would do to Dio what he's doing to Isa, I would feel better. As Cam noted the number of deaths he and Isa have contributed to on this TN and their toll on Cam has been staggering.

Though Isa is very bad/complete evil, the little torture they showed us was enough for me. Yes she cut out the man's tongue (and this is horrific) but his mauling her was yet another vomit-inducing moment. Just lock her up already and move to the less gruesome parts of the story.

With all the has to be resolved, at least Kat will not have a boring episode.

I wonder if as Dan "chats" with Miriam whether they will realize the first doctor was paid-off dubious? It would be another charge against Dio. And Mir is another reason why my guess (as others have noted) is the story will have to move forward in time. She just can't get over the reveal though she has been cooling to Dan.

Mena (and Dell),

Wow! Fantastic work on a real nail biter. Thanks so much for so many good, fun and thoughtful recaps.

The Agustina turn is a tough one to swallow, but she certainly knew that her daughter would do what she had to do to get her out of prison. In the end, Augustina matched Camila's spirit of self-sacrifice.

The Isadora torture scene was too much for me. These sadistic= acts of vengeance rob some of viewerville from the come-uppance we would really like her to have.

The Albarans seem to be set, with Cayetano and Rocio on the way to reconciliation. Yago is gone to make his life and fortune.- Camila and LaMal are safe for the moment. Nati and Luzma are safe and Luzma looks to be both on the mend and having Pablo on her mind. Isa is out of commission for sure. Now to get Dio and resolution of the main triangle. We also have the Piedad breast cancer possibility.

And, probably more that I am forgetting. So far, this week has been very compelling. I can't wait for tonight.

Congrats, Mena; this is fabulous work.

My fave: [Viewerville clutches its collective stomach in one hand while reaching for weapons suitable for a anesthetic free orchidectomy] ….

This line makes me want to write novelas; that does need to happen someday. I want to see a novela heroine invoke Saint Lorena on a villain like this one. Leoncerdo deserves this fate even more.

Still, when you think on the matter, you realize that Camila wouldn't make this easy for him and would do her best to make this as unpleasant for him as she could.

I'm not Catholic, so somebody answer this: Augustina survived the fall for an hour or so and asked God to forgive her. Does that get her off the purgatory hook?

Hissadora is getting what she deserves.

Since Miriam survived the shock of seeing the wedding photo that has to provoke questions about the aneurysm.

All of us who went to Catholic schools may want to weigh in on UA's question about suicide and sin. This is the kind of question that we would chew on for hours in religion class in the 50s and 60s.

Suicide is a mortal sin, in the most serious category of sin, making Agustina hell-bound. She was unable to see a priest at the end, so there was no formal forgiveness from the Church. It is odd that a priest would not have been called as she lay dying.

HOWEVER, with all of the mitigating circumstances, her efforts to save her daughter from a sinner, her prayers for forgiveness, her efforts to change her proud character, etc., I'm betting on some purgatory time.
So, in the end -- only God knows!

If all this sounds slightly or completely ridiculous to readers, formal religion in its most conservative forms is generally full of this kind of stuff. Not knocking it, just observing.

Mena- Thank you for this recap and all your others. Thank you also for deciding to recap for us. No one would ever be able to tell that this was your first time recapping a tn. I hope you recap another one soon!

Last night’s episode was another hard one, but riveting. Thanks for making the scenes with Dion bearable. But there was no way to soften the pain of the scenes between Cami and Gussy, and later between Cami and Dan, Vivi, and Rafa. So heart wrenching. It’s good that Gussy and Cami were able to say goodbye in person, because Camila would have been left with so many questions, despite the letter, if they hadn’t had that last conversation. It doesn’t make it any easier though, and Camila’s rage and inconsolable heartbreak were easy to understand.

I’m glad that Dan shared with Camila that they now have Estevez’ info from the copy of the contract they found, and can really get Dion for fraud this time. Dion is scurrying off like the rat he is.

Speaking of rats, Leo really relished his opportunity to get revenge on Isa—burning her hands with acid and cutting out her tongue as the episode faded out. *shudder* Well, he’s only giving her a taste of her own medicine by leaving her unable to communicate (no tongue; no use of her hands to write).

The way that Miriam reacted to the realization that Dan and Cam had been married, if she had indeed had an aneurism, it WOULD have burst. Wow! She was wailing as much as Cam who had just lost her mama in the worst way.

I’m glad that truth is out now, because Dan needs to be there for Cam. I feel bad for Miriam, but there is more important stuff to worry about right now and that Dan needs to concentrate on, like putting Dio, Isa, and Leo in jail for good, and helping Camila hold it together emotionally while they do that. Mariano can go over and give Miriam a shoulder to cry on about the end of her marriage. Don’t get me wrong. I like Miriam. But there are just bigger fish to fry now, and she has now experienced the worst and can begin the process of healing and moving on.

I did find her reaction to the news that Cami’s mom had just died to be a bit cold. I know she was in the middle of her own grief over her marriage, but a mother’s death is a pretty big deal.

Traveling Lady- It seems that in recent years the Catholic Church has softened it's stance on suicide. I found this:

"The catechism points out that, "Grave psychological disturbances, anguish, or grave fear of hardship, suffering, or torture can diminish the responsibility of the one committing suicide." The Catholic Church used to state that suicide was a sin, and that persons committing suicide could not have a Catholic service and burial. However, the Church has since changed this point of view."

I like Miriam well enough (a bit stiff and formal!) and have understood her focus on herself, her family, etc., even last night. Not fully getting the story, it must seem like every time she turns around Daniel is with Camila and her family, dealing with another tragedy. She's always on the margins -- and now she knows why!

I think her reaction is supposed to run parallel to Camila's with regard to deception by Daniel. Whether warranted or not, both of these smart women have been hurt by not being told the truth. TNS often have the theme of deception leading to more problems, but specially this one. The paradox, of course, is that the deceiver had few options given the circumstances.

I think that Hissadora's fate was very creative on the writers' part. Leoncerdo certainly understand the frustration of being unable to communicate. Since he has burned Hissadora's hands into uselessness he has removed the ability to write (although she can probably still hit computer keys at a hunt-and-peck pace).

And he couldn't possibly have read Titus Andronicus.

Miriam's reaction to Augustina's death was coming in the midst of the worst discovery of her life. I'm sure if she ever finds out the actual circumstances later she might be more sympathetic.

Excuse me; I meant "understood."

No posting without caffeine from now on.

Vivi - Thanks for posting that. I truly didn't know that the doctrine had changed. So few American Catholics are doctrinaire at this point that I would guess that most view suicide in the way you quote -- who knew it was now the church law? Much more enlightened and compassionate.

I will have to ask my mother her thoughts on this. She is the family keeper of the catechism, so to speak, viewing her children as "menu" Catholics, taking the parts we like and rejecting the rest!

I really do understand Miriam's pain in that moment, and inability to truly express condolences. It just came across as cold.

Speaking of, just want to clarify something from the recap, when the MQ staff are in the kitchen and decide to pray for Agustina. Eleurterio wasn't walking away and refusing to pray for Gussy's well-being. He pointed out that they should be praying for her soul, because surely she was dead or dying for sure. They rest of the MQ staff was scolding him for thinking negatively that Gussy was for sure going to die. But of course, he was right.

Mena: You had me chuckling, despite the sickening occurrences in this episodio.

"Hotel del KarmicJusticia" (LOL! Perfect!) and, Mena, did you ever catch the essence and crazed behavior in that final scene! Totally satisfying!!

Loved some of the other snark as well:

"slinky black evening nightmare-wear"

"Dio realizes that his fantasy has slipped through his fingers and that his recent ingestion of multiple pills of a certain nature will remind him of this for several hours to come."

"[Pullleeeezzz – someone kick him where it counts, poison him with his Cialis – just make him stop!]"

"He perversely tells her she should relaaaxxx and that if she does she might surprise herself and enjoooyyyyyy herself."

Thank you for your doggedness in weekly bringing us a heck of a read. Please come back to us to recap again sooner than later, ok?

Tks mucho Mena for this tear jerker & horror filled episode, well done.

I for one, think the Isa/Leo back atcha scene was a little over the top.
Leo slobbering, must smell to high heaven, yuk

Camila, saved by the bell. I was really afraid Dio was going to rape her by force instead of blackmail .

Caye is taking the Isa thing better than I would expect. Oh well, the vanquished Rocio is allowed back.

SN's performance was over the top.
!!!!NOT NOMINATED!!!!! estupidez
Add insult to injury, Victoria Ruffo is? I think VR & Cesar Evora are the darlings of Televisa.

That black number El Diablo bought for Camila looked right out of Frederick's of Hollywood. That he bought exactly the right size makes it all the creepier. How much snooping through her clothes did that require?

Thank you for recapping, Mena. You do it SO well. I was thinking of you last night at the end, i.e. how can you add humor to such drama? You succeeded so well. I could not wait for the recap, since I missed a lot of what Dio was saying. But I understood enough to sit going "Blech" repeatedly. I wonder if SN even really felt as nauseated playing the part as we felt watching the part.

Miriam made me so mad last night at the selfish way she reacted, if I understood her wailing correctly. Maybe I was interpreting her through my dislike of her spoiled behavior. I wish the nanny had just told her that she was considered to be dangerously ill. At least, finally she knows. Now she can go bake Mar's cookies and be his little cookie.

Thanks for the laughs.

Cindy

Mena, once again superbly done! You've captured the emotions and creepiness so well that I was gulping down the bile and averting my eyes as you describe the scenes so vividly in your recap.

Thank you for your time and your tremendous contribution. Looking forward to your next recap in a not so distant future.

Gosh Cindy,
The poor woman just found out that her husband is married to someone else!!! Cut her some slack. At least now all will become clear to Miriam & she can move on.

Pobre Dan, he has 2 wailing wives on his hands.

The reason Isa's hands were burned hadn't occurred to me.

Cindy, Miriam's anguish reads like this:

(When Caridad was tending to her)
It can't be possible, it can't be possible! How come camila and daniel got married? Why did they all hide this to me, why? [Flashbacks to all the clues]

(After the phone conversation with Daniel)
Although I try, I can't understand why you didn't tell me that camila and you had fallen in love and got married. I can understand everything. You thought I was dead, you buried my love and you fell in love with her. But why did you and everybody deceive me all this time? I don't understand! [cries]

I think her coldness when telling Daniel to convey her condolences to Camila was a form of self-control, so she wouldn't cry until hanging up the phone. That might just be about herself or also about not adding to Daniel's problems of the moment; it doesn't matter. What is important here is that she will get her explanation

Urban- I like your explanation of why Miriam was so cold-- trying to hold it together and not cry.

I don't know anyone from Chile, but that might be something she learned in her family situation. I certainly get that from mine.

Remember how Miriam went after the guy with the camera in the beginning of the story? She's no cupcake despite how many cookies she bakes.

Miriam's coldness came after she heard that Dan was once again with Cam.

Once Dan got on the phone with her; all she wanted was him back at home for one of her screaming matches. When Dan told her he can't attend to her because as he explained he was called by Augustina who just died--all Miriam heard at first was as she stated "You're with Cam right now?" As Dan confirmed yes he's with her and so are Vivi and Rafa--Miriam proceeded coldly by saying "give my condolences to Cam" at which time Dan became perplexed by her cold attitude.

Yes, the anguish of finding out that her husband is married, in love with another woman and lying about it was hard to take; but I think her cold response was due to the final realization that once again Dan is more preoccupied with Cam and her family than her and her anguish.

I have a feeling that by the time Dan gets home, Miriam wont be wailing anymore. 1st the shock, then the wailing, then anger because you have been such a fool. Even the wonderful Mariano has lied to her & her own brother. There isn't a person that hasn't. Poor Dan is going to bear the brunt of the whole thing, anger & hysteria.

Yup and he's just rotten at explaining the truth even when he wants to. Shame on those writers!
===========

BTW/OT: For you CdlF and LC fans, ADL (a remake of Imperial de Cristal) per the Uni foro will appear in Mexico first--I presume--some time near the end of 2013, after Mentir de Vivir, which will be short but has a lot of our fav actors in it. MdV comes right after QBA, and it is a Rosy Ocampo and Maria Zarattini (from La Fuerza del Destino) project which will have David Zepeta as galan, Diego Olivera from TDA and Altair Jarabo and Fabian Robles--another all star cast. This is, at least, what I can get from the info I've found.

Mena, Priceless! NO one would have ever guessed that you were a newbie at doing these recaps. You have the talent!

Want to thank UA and Vivi in DC for yesterday's replies to my questions re Agustina's motives for suicide.

I actually had to walk away from the Isa and Leo scene. Yikes! I couldn't watch it. It almost seemed to easy for Leo to "get" Hissdora, but what he did...it sickened me. I think Hissadora needed more of a public humiliation so that she could have been brought down several notches. Ironically, Hissadora wasn't in one of her reptilian outfits. I have to say, though, that I wasn't prepared for the violence of this scene.

This entire episode had me going from one emotion to another. SO very well acted by the entire cast, but especially the senior actors and the wonderful Silvia.

Dion was so completely repulsive. I was confused by one moment and would like someone to confirm for me what I "thought" Dion was saying to Camila when he was asking her to put on the Frederick's dress. I thought I heard him say that she would look more beautiful in that dress, but that she would look more beautiful than she really was. Somehow, it seemed like he became verbally cruet in that scene in that he was not really complimenting her. He mumbled the words, but the way she looked at him seemed to me that Camila saw just what a mental degenerate he truly was.

Could someone enlighten me on that turn of phrase, please?

At the end, I found myself shaking my head as to how this Premios stuff could have ignored the quality and delivery of Silvia Navarro's performance in this novela. I don't know much about the Premios, but I have to think that they have NO VALUE if such an actress can be ignored. What total and complete stupidity.

Fatima

Mena, I loved the nightmare wear. So funny and so true. Thank you for all the hard work you've put into the recaps. It's well appreciated.

I thought that Leo poured the acid on her crotch, but everyone else seems to think it was on her hands.I thought he would pour it down her throat.

I was so moved by the deathbed scene with Camila and Aggie, but I thought Dan dropped the acting ball big time with his performance. So unemotional and stilted. Booo.

Miriam obviously doesn't know the circumstances yet of Aggie's death, so I say give her a break on her reaction. She's feeling very deceived by everyone, and she's humanly thinking of her own pain and anger right now, which is fresh and raw.

No slack from me, sorry. Her constant "home to Chile" went on too long for me. And, while I realize that she was rich, it bugged me a lot that every time the baby needed new Pampers, she handed her off.

(Probably her real problem for me is that she reminds me of one of those people I knew early in my marriage who will not give you personal space. She was gag-me syrupy too like Mirium. I had to tolerate her, as she was musical lead opposite my hubby at the time.)

I wonder if the dr. will confess to deception in the final episodes. How could he though without damaging his career?

I too think we will see time jumps in the next nights.

Cindy

Fatima- Dio definitely became curt in his tone during that scene because Cami was not playing along with his little fantasy, was refusing to put on the dress, and was telling him to just get this over already. He first used flattery by saying the dress would make her look more beautiful than she already was. Then he reminded her this was going to get her mom out of prison. Then he ordered her in a very firm/hard tone to go to his room and change. Slimy flattery, followed by veiled threat, followed by very real threat that he was not playing around here.

Oh, and he demanded that she better smile and have a better attitude (grin and bear it) when he ordered her to change.

Vivi in DC, Thank you! It was such a horribly demeaning scene. It was sickening to watch how demeaning he was to Cams.

Fatima

I admit that I fastforwarded through a lot of the slime scene with Dion and Camila. I just couldn't stand the torture in real time.

That's a chess game of emotional abuse.

Dionicio would ultimately have to realize he can't play this game with Camila as he did with her mother. She's not the naive fool Augustina was. She's every bit as tough as he is but she has a conscience.

There is no way he means for this to be a one-night stand.

Wow, Mena you are such a talented writer and interpreter. Thanks for all your work on this superb TN. This was such a frenetic episode with high drama every minute. I am so glad they are spreading out the outcomes of so many of the interesting plots and subplots. This has been a satisfying week of pie carts rolling down the road.

I appreciate the explanation of Hissa's hands being burned by the acid, I thought he was pouring it onto her lap. I just hope both she and disgusting Dio live long and remorseful lives,

Mena, you captured Dio's delusional, self-satisfied, interpretation of a charm offensive, and then moved to the difficult task of sympathetically interpreting Augustina's parting words explaining her sacrifice.

Alas that it was so unnecessary. Cam is such a strong, well grounded character otherwise, but SN played her so well exuding an "I'll do whatever it takes (even though I'm saying I won't)" vibe to Augustina (when A just thought that just the ranch was on the line). After that, even not-so-quick Augustina would have rightly realized the cruel perversity of Dio's full plan for her daughter and its odds of success.

Where was Cam's faith that in time they would get the goods on Dio and free Augustina without his "help"?
After all, as the heartless witch pointed out when denying Augustina a phone call to a cell line, she hadn't been convicted yet and there would be time to trace the checks and so forth.

Had Cam not revealed her desperation and defeat to Augustina, Augustina would not have been such easy prey to Dio's threat, or felt compelled to such drastic action.

Thanks again for the insight and interpretation, both this episode and throughout. Give my regards to Dell.
Chris in FL

Chris- Cami admitted to the Scoobies in Vivi's place after Gussy had been jailed that she had lost her faith that justice would prevail, and if it did, it could take years and her mother would not be able to survive that long in prison. The checks had been traced-- cashed in an account in Gussy's name and then withdrawn for parts unknown (likely an offshore account in one of Dio's many names), but untraceable at this point. There was really no hope for Gussy getting off the hook without some proof that she actually worked for this company.

Cam never revealed her desperation to Gussy. She always kept up a strong front in front of Gussy and kept a positive attitude that they would get the goods on Dio, even when she really didn't feel that way. And Gussy believed Cam believed that, until Dion came and told her the real deal.

Oh, as for where Leo was dribbling the acido over her, I suppose her hands were tied to the arms of the chair (but he didn't seem to be moving the glass around enough to get both hands as best as I could tell) but I'm hoping they were tied together in her lap.
I think the desk clerk realized Leo was going to be trouble, so I'm betting he is interrupted and Isadora lives long enough for some public comeuppance (and a little extra backstabbing of Dio, if necessary).

Well at least Camila didn't get impregnated with Dio's (Satan's) bebe.

An irony to Isa's demise is that had she stayed at a better hotel, the desk person may not have sold her out. As it was when the guy saw (and possibly smelled) Leo and was bribed and then said do not create trouble for me, I thought seriously now you say that.

UA, "Titus Andronicus"!! Oh my, YES! Shakespeare's most violent, violent play. You can't imagine all the pictures that flooded my mind with that reference!!

Fatima

You know, I just can't get last night's episode out of my mind for so many reasons, but the sadness of the deathbed scene still lingers. I didn't want Agustina to die. I just wanted her to open her eyes and see things more clearly.

I'm thinking I'm crazy for taking this show to heart and still thinking about it today. Oh well...

Not that it matters, but I thought Leoncerdo had splashed the acid on Hissadora's chest/breasts, but I could be waaaay wrong as I had to leave the room and could not watch.

Anyway, just call me "Still Sad Fatima". Thanks for letting me ramble.

Fatima

Interesting observation---did anyone else notice that at Augustina's bedsite all 4 (Camilla, Daniel, Vivi and Rafa) were all coincidentally wearing black? Camilla had the black jacket over her nightmare-ware (which was black). Daniel's pants and jacket were black. Vivi's dress was black. Rafa's shirt and pants were black. Very appropriate I thought, and not at all planned obviously.

Mena: Great recap. Hope you recap the new 7:00 TN that should be coming soon. These last eps are action packed and all you recappers are doing an awesome job.

Seriously, my skin was crawling during the Dio/Cam scene. If that’s the reaction I had watching a fictional character in that position, I can’t even imagine how horrible it would be for a real person.

It looked to me like the desk clerk was reaching for a phone. Maybe he was just putting the money away.

Was there not enough time to call in a priest to give Agustina last rites? Would she have been able to get them since she was a suicide (I see Traveling Lady had the same thought)?

Televisa sucks. SN was amazing in that scene with Dan after Agustina dies (and of course many, many others). She is an Academy Award level actor (and believe me, I do not say that lightly). If I were her, I would leave Televisa and go to Telemundo. I will follow her there. The only reason I can think of that she might not get nominations for the Premios is because she’s a witch to work with. However, it should be about the performance given on the screen, not off.

I know that Isa deserves a horrible end, but I was disturbed by the torture scene. Has this happened in TNs before—this level of torture?

First I thought Leo was pouring the acid over her private parts, then I though her leg. How did you get that he was pouring it over her hands (thanks Vivi—that makes total sense). Also, was he just caressing her lips with the knife or was he going to cut them off—or cut out her tongue—or both (whatever he’s going to do it makes me want to gag)?

Vivi: I agree that Dan needs to focus on Cam and getting Dio and that is more important that rushing back to Chile. To give M. her due, I think she was in shock, that’s why she reacted a bit coldly. Actually, UA’s reason seems more valid—holding it together so as not to breakdown as she talked to Dan.

Jar: Thanks for all the future TN info.

Vivi: from yesterday’s comments “I hope the select the leading lady carefully. . . SN is really the one who brought out the best in him. The leading lady would have to be strong.”—I’m in total agreement. I think CdlF is best in the “lighter” moments. He can’t sustain high drama for very long, and the only way of getting a good enough performance from him is to put him with a stronger actress. Lucero is another strong one. I’m still a TN newbie compared to most of you, so there might be others that I’m not aware of.

Nanette

Pre Gran Final HPLP lists.

The week thus far . . .

Highpoints:

More of Amanda’s sticking it to Dio and Yago.
Nat and Luz safe and being welcomed at Aaron’s place (I cried).
Dio loses his cool at the wedding.
Os and Amanda’s “mi amors” to each other.
Lovely Amanda/Dan moment. This is when I like Dan the best—oh and, of course, when he’s with the Budgekin. OK and with Maja.
Yago is not popular.
Amanda won’t tell where the girls are, but does say they are together.
Amanda tells Piedad where Luz is so that she has one less thing to worry about (in a public place, no less—hopefully, it’s too late in the TN for it to be an issue).
Yago, inadvertently, interrupts Isa’s plan to kill Caye.
The guys are caught. Though it’s serious what they did, they looked pretty funny—and cute.
Rodolfo’s grin re: Nat being free.
Nice Nat and Luz moment. In Chiapas, both girls can heal.
Hipolito’s fierce loyalty to Cam.
Estevez visits. Dio is having a REALLY bad day.
Piedad tells Hipolito about her possible cancer.
Luz agrees to let Aaron’s friend help her (love the chicken).
The police are on their way to La B to arrest Isa.
Leo follows Isa as she escapes.
The La B capatz decided not to take the day off.
Hipolito when Piedad tells him about her possible cancer—I don’t need to say more.
Isa is a match for Dio in the cajones department.
Yago is not welcome in the family pow wow.
Agustina’s beautiful letter to Cam.
Caye takes the news about Isa rather well, I think.
Os gives Amanda a ring and they plan to marry in Chiapas so that Nat can attend (thinking that won’t be necessary). Happy ending (beginning) for Os and Amanda!!!!!!!!
Caye kicks Yago off the ranch and gives half Y’s inheritance to his grandchild.
Kind of a nice bro moment between Yago and Mariano. Yago is a s**t, but he’s redeemable. I guess.
Caye agrees to see Rocio and Nana along with Ana.
Dante tells Dan the recording has been cleaned up and everything can be heard clearly.
Luz is missing Pablo. Pablo is still committed.
Agustina has saved Cam from Dio.
Caye and Rocio forgive each other.
Delusional Dio thinks he’s going to have another chance with Cam.
Agustina gets the opportunity to say goodbye to Cam in person, hear that Cam didn’t succumb to Dio, say that Dio told her what he was going to do, ask forgiveness from Dan and make him promise to protect Cam.
Miriam finds the wedding pic, gets really, REALLY upset and still her head does not explode.
Dan tells Cam he will tell Estevez what Dio has done so he can be indicted for fraud.
Dan tells Cam he’ll stay in Mexico until she is safe.
Leo starts his revenge on Isa (she deserves a bad end, but I’m a little sickened by the torture).

Low Points:

Hipolito tripped an alarm and was unable to get into the house and is now caught on tape.
Pablo sobs in Mariano’s arms (I cried).
Dio threatens Cam again re: Hipolito. What a disgusting pig.
Isa tells Yago he should go on the honeymoon anyway and he agrees.
Amanda tells Dan where Luz and Nat are (unnecessary and dangerous—again in a public place).
Isa overhears Mariano tell Yago the police are on their way to arrest Isa.
Agustina can’t get the warden to relent and let her use the phone.
Yago is a selfish b*****d. Nothing new here.
PIG PIG PIG PIG PIG PIG PIG PIG PIG.
Agustina sacrifices her life for Cam (I cried—a lot).
Cam’s heartbreak and rage was difficult to watch.

Nanette- From all accounts, SN is a great actress to work with. Both her co-stars and directors/producers usually gush about her. The issue is with the TVyNovelas editor. There is no love lost between them. Same story with Jaime Camil. In any case, none of that should matter because the work should speak for itself, and it's the work they are supposedly being judged on for these awards. But, it is what it is. It's a shame that the biggest forum for these Televisa tn actors to be given their due (all artistic fields reward artists for their work) completely ignores the work of some of its best actors for nothing more than grudges and egos. Just doesn't seem right.

Vivi: glad to know SN is a joy to work with. I like it when the actors I like are nice people, too. In a way she's done well with Televisa. She's had two really good TNs and one good TN. However, not being nominated is a big slap in the face. Are the Telemundo TNs as good?

Over the years, the music industry has grown from the Grammy's to several well respected industry awards. Maybe it's time for someone to start a new award for telenovelas.

All of the players in the Dan/Cam saga were wearing black last night:

Camila
Daniel
Vivi
Rafa

(Above 4...death of Augustina)

Miriam

(Death of her marriage & the illusion that Daniel will come back to her)

Miriam has been cold to Dan for some time. She cares about him but she's no longer in love with him, because Daniel killed that within her. Finding out Daniel married Camila and now he's by Camila's side b/c her mother died is the last straw. I have no problem with Miriam being cold about Augustina dying because she has no reason to be warm.

Cayetano is stubborn but he probably knew deep down that Isa was not for him. But when a beautiful younger woman is blowing smoke up your butt & making you feel like a virile young man, you take the bait and that's what Cayetano did. He knows he was dazzled, much like Rocio was dazzled by Don Dan back in the day, so he can now make his way back to Rocio, even if it's just as friends.

I'm not usually an avert-the-eyes kind of person, but when the connection starting buffering at the end of this show, I was never so grateful for bad internet.

Does Dio know that Augustina committed suicide? I thought he was annoyed that she chose now to "fall down the escaleras" and he was going to pressure HER later, not Camila. May have heard wrong, but if I'm right then he's in for a big happy (for us) surprise.

I was a little disappointed in Caridad though. She let Miriam toss all those bottles into the bag without putting them in ziplocs or even squeezing some air out. That bag is going to be a big pile of goo when they get back to Chile.

Kelly

Anon207: I think Caye marrying Isa was also partly a knee-jerk reaction to finding out Rocio cheated on him.

If Dion had not told Aggie his sexual plans for Camila, he would be in bed with her now.

I think they purposely left us guessing as to how Leo has damaged Isa. The next time we see her, we'll know.

Thanks Mena for a terrific last AB recap. So much happened in this episode that made for very interesting comments. My 2 cents says that although Isa deserved punishment for her crimes, Leo the escaped terrorizing rapist didn’t deserve the “opportunity” to be the one to deliver it.

I’m glad that Miriam’s eyes are finally opened to the reality of her situation. I know this sounds cold but her 2 favorite words “Daniel” and “Chile” was getting a bit monotonous.

Last night was the first time that I felt sympathy for her. I hope that she, Miriano, Ana and Agatha find in each other the relationship they deserve.

Oh man this was hard to watch, I was eating a muffin during the torture scene with Leo and Isa and I swear it almost came back up, it was so gross!

I think it's a little unfair to be so hard on Miriam, last night she was crying not only because Dan married Cam but because everyone lied to her, she kept saying "why, why did they lie to me?", can you imagine her distress? Here she is in Mexico, where she has no friends, and she finds that the man she took a bullet for has married someone else and that everyone she has met thus far knew this and lied about it! she has enough grace to say that she understands Dan moved on because he thought she was dead but it's all the lies that came after that are tearing her apart.

Chris in Florida, Agustina knew that if she did not do something her daughter was in grave danger and her hands were tied, Camila never let on about how bad things were going, in fact she always told Agustina that everything was going to be okay, if not for Dio visiting her Agustina would have had no idea about how bad things were. Also, I've been thinking about this, say Agustina had not jumped and Dio had gotten caught after Camila refused to turn over the ranch, do any of you think Dio would have done anything to "help" Agustina get out of jail? I don't think so, and even if they had shown that she did work for his company she still sold the products without a license which I'm sure is a crime, what Camila wanted above everything else was her mothers freedom and I don't think Agustina would have been set free even if Dio was behind bars.

Great list Nanette! Love how the good outweighs the bad so far this week. Although we've had some major bad stuff happen like Gussy's death.

Nanette: Regarding Televisa vs. Telemundo
Telemundo is a mixed bag, just like Televisa. When Telemundo does tns jointly with other big international companies (like RNC, Caracol, Argos, etc.), the tns can be very, very good (e.g. Dona Barbara; La Patrona, La Reina del Sur). I find their tns exclusively done by Telemundo (without international collaboration and filmed in Miami) to be decent to VERY bad (e.g. Corazon Valiente, Rosa Diamante, Aurora). The best exception to that was Alguien te Mira, which was very good (took place in Chicago but filmed in Miami).

For the Telemundo tns filmed in Miami, the sets feel flat and sterile, and you never get the beautiful scenery, sweeping views and rich sets as you usually do in Televisa tns. I made fun of all the bull paraphernalia in the AB homes, but you would never find so much attention to detail in the Miami Telemundo sets.

The themes are usually very modern, vs. Televisa tns that tend to be more traditional (romance novel-like or cheesy). Frankly, from what I've seen, they handle the exact same themes of love and loss, and the heroine still usually never has sex with anyone but the galan once they've met (unless she's a prostitute).

The theme Telemundo is not afraid to touch is drugs (drug use and drug trade), which you never really find in Televisa tns. Narco-novelas are their own genre though, and there is great sensitivity in Mexico about producing shows that glorify this lifestyle when it is causing so much misery in the country at the moment. I often wonder how Colombia gets away with producing so many narco-novelas without there being some reprisals from the gangsters and criminals they are portraying (although from the ones I have seen, they do make these criminals' lives seen exciting and cool, if also dangerous and treacherous).

Although some folks will only swear by Telemundo tns, and others only Televisa tns, I like them both the same. I do tend to like happy endings though, so I find there are periods when I just can’t bring myself to watch a narco-novela, no matter how good it is (e.g. La Reina del Sur), because I know really bad things will happen throughout, and there will not be a happy ending.

Because I'm going to really miss this great group for this particular novela and because so many of you are going over to Telemundo for the "Cielos" novela, can anyone tell me if I could find it online? Also, are the narco stories really violent? (yes, I'm a wimp).

Anon207, really liked your comments!

Fatima

Vivi in DC, thank you for those comparisons. I didn't see your post before I posted my question.

Fatima

Fatima- Yes. They tend to be violent. Telemundo always has their episodes on their site the next day. But you won't find anything in advance online since their shows are being run for the first time. Unlike Televisa tns which start in Mexico months before they start here and find their way online.

Re Telemundo
The first TN I watched over there was El Clon, fascinating because its protagonist was a Muslim woman [Sandra Echevarria]. It was not violent and very different. Set in Morocco/Miami.
I'm over at Telemundo a lot lately, since I got a chance to see several weeks of PEAM and QBA in Mexico, neither of which are for me.
Really enjoying Pasion Prohibida in the 8 p.m. slot, remake of a Turkish novela from a true story set in the 1920s [I think]. It is one of the Miami ones Vivi mentions. No violence. Characters are not Televisa- predictable, a mixture of good and bad. Acting is good and the leads have chemistry.
La Patrona is good, but it is violent for me. As Cielos looks to be.
Check out the Telemundo page on Caray that is posted weekly if you have any interest!
Clara

Yessirree, this was a difficult capitulo to both watch and summarize. A few commentarios ......

RE: where Leo poured the acid, I think it is somewhat unclear except that I was skeptical that the writers would have the acid in her lap because that is ridiculously gruesome. The burning of her chest, maybe, because he did rip her shirt for some reason. But when he poured it, it was not in that area. So I surmised the default hands story. We will see?! No!?
RE: Dio LOL UA, re; the nightmare- nightwear coming from Fredericks. That is what I thought when the lighting showed that the gown was generally see through like a negligee and the back fastened like an undergarment, not a dress. GAGGGG!
RE: Agustina - Her plea and testament was longer than what I wrote, but the essence remained consistent throughout. She wanted to make it clear she could be selfless and this was the only thing in her power to do, as she saw it. So sad when Camila kept talking to her using endearing terms like mamita, bonita, "Agustina" ... That was quite a tear jerker.
RE: Miriam - I get her pain at the lies. I imagine having the entire town (that you are the newcomer t)o know that your husband fell in love with someone else and not being told must be humiliating. It is almost being the last to know your husband stepped out on you (well, sort of). However, the princess treatment for vapors was almost humorous.

RE: Dio - I found his acting really convincing as his grooming of Camila for his personal pleasure was really disturbing.....

Aaron must be some sort of a student of Buddhism in real life based on his comments (or one of the writers). I thoroughly love the hippy vibe between him and Viv.

My dos centavos

Woo hoo, Mena! Excellent work on a very event- and dialogue-heavy episodio!

My take on Miriam's attitude during the phone call was that, given the alternative (telling him she didn't care and to get his ass back home ASAP), passing along her condolences in that tone of voice was fair. Camila wouldn't know how she said it, only that she said it, and there's no reason to be kind to Dan--it's not his loss. I saw it as, "Look, this doesn't let you off the hook, but yeah, that sucks for Camila. Tell her I said I'm sorry." She has no reason to expect that Daniel will tell Camila "Miriam sends her condolences...but she sounded kind of pissed off, so I don't think she means it."

As for Leo and the acid...I was literally screaming and putting my hands up in front of my face. I believe I also uttered, "Dude! When your own revenge makes you want to hurl, maybe it's time to stop already!"

The nightmare wear was semi-classy from the front, then she turned around and I could see the elastic gathering the waist. Cheap and tacky, Dio. A truly committed evil mastermind would have had a garment tailored to her measurements. Just one more fail on your "best" night ever!

Vivi: thank you so much for the Telemundo info. I'm like you and want a happy ending, so I'll probably stick to Televisa unless someone tells me a TM novela is more on the TV lines, or if SN jumps ship and goes to TM--though I can't imagine her in a narco story, she'd be good. I think she'd be a good villain, too. I know actors like to push the envelope. However, I'd prefer she'd stay the heroine (no pun intended).

Kat: I also thought the dress did not fit her well, plus needing someone taller to even remotely pull it off. Maybe Alma from PEAM.

I'm confused, if there are 166 capitulos, why are they delaying it until Friday? There is like one left and my tv guide says it is spost to come on today.

And as for torture scenes, there was El Talisman and Velo de Novia. The velo de novia one will never escape me.

CorazonSalvaje- They aren't delaying it. The show is on tonight. Cap 166 is two hours, so it's being shown over two nights.

oh ok thanks for clarifying.

Why did the prison staff tell Piedad that Augustina fell from some stairs rather than say that she jumped from the water tower? Was this to cushion the blow?

I was wondering how they were going to get Dio. I totally forgot about the contract.

Mena, I'm once again coming late to the party, and most of what I would have said has already been said by others. But one thing that's already been said by others deserves much repetition: You are a magnificent recapper!! Truly first-rate! Thank you for all the pleasure and enlightenment you have provided. I do hope you'll be recapping again VERY SOON.

Well that was a gruesome ending for Hissadora but then karma's a b!tch. Or, "lo que va, viene." I can't wait to see what happens to Dionisio.

So all this time Leoncerdo was skulking around Aculco with a glass jug of acid strong enough to cause third degree burns. Good thing the jug didn't break.

It's raining anvils.

Thanks for such a well done recap of this wrenching episode. I've really enjoyed your clever recaps and the smiles you've managed to coax. What treats.

cathyx and Cheryl, add me to those who thought that he spilled the acid onto her lap. Her hands were tied to the arms of the chair and her feet were tied to the chair legs. Whatever he actually did, it was too grim for me and as the screen went still it looked as though he was just getting started with the knife.

Poor Cayetano, he certainly has embarrassing regrets but at least they are regrets that he can revisit wistfully and even fondly. Maybe he will get teeshirt that says:

I Rode the Isadora and Survived

I can just imagine years from now him sitting on the patio with that silly grin and a faraway look in his eyes. Of course Rocio has her own regrets to enjoy.

I'm really puzzled by the negativity directed at Miriam. Remind me...exactly what crime is it that she has committed?

Carlos

Sue455: Crack me up! Flaco said the same thing about carrying the acid jug around.

I don't like or dislike Miriam, but I think her reaction was justified. She was wailing at being lied to yet again, and this time by the whole town, including her bestie Mariano. She seemed to be hurting more at the lies and deception than at the fact that Dan/Cam had gotten married.

I think that in addition to messing up her means of communication, leo (intentional lowercase) poured the acid on Isa's hands to incapacitate her as he continues her torture (tongue?). When she cut his out, she had a couple of hefty men help to hold him down. She's not a small person, so if he's going to return the favor he needs some leverage.

CdlF's acting in the death scene seemed appropriate to me. He seemed to convey the utter helplessness of Daniel as he watched the love of his life fall to pieces with grief. Their recent estrangement seemed to make him hesitate to immediately reach out for her. Then, later in the scene when Camila is talking/pleading/crying to her mother, his hands are on her hair, caressing her head, trying to offer what little comfort he could, while remaining on the periphery.

Soyyo

Carlos: stop cracking me up!

I don't understand some of the negativity directed toward Miriam either. I think sometimes we forget that characters don't have all the info we have and so their actions/reactions seem wrong.

I thought Leo burnt her hands with the acid so she couldn't communicate after he cut Isa's tongue off. He was able to read and write instead of talk, but she won't be able to communicate period.

I rewatched the ending of this episode twice. No, I am not morbid. You all can watch the beginning of tonight's episode if we have to watch Leo cutting Isa. I hate knives and have not seen any slasher movies.

The acid seemed to fall on one of Isa's hands, both of which were tied individually to an arm of the chair. Then there seems to be a break in time during which I guess we can assume that perhaps the other hand was "treated." Isa's mascara was pouring down her face more when Leo pulled out his knife to cut her tongue than when he finished "treating" the first hand.

It certainly showed the thoughtfulness of the producers that while you watched Leo pour the acid, such that you might have felt sorry for Isa, they showed Leo drooling, due to the tongue Isa had cut out, so that you ended up feeling that, well, she got what she deserved.

And yes, I thawed a bit toward Mirium as I rewatched the ending, now that I know what she was really saying.

Karma's a bitch and she has PMS.

If Leoncerdo doesn't pour any acid over Hissadora's breasts, the slashing of the garment was just part of the torture, a way to generate fear.

The ruination of her hands could render her unable to communicate. In the Shakespeare play Titus Andronicus Lavinia is left without tongue or hands after having been raped.

And watched Miriam two times more.

BTW, there were some small edits in that torture scene.

Mena – Thanks for a stellar recap of a very gruesome and sad episode. I had to avert my eyes at times, so thanks for all the details. “Nightmare-ware” - perfect. Great, chilling line: “Revenge has come for a visit and may stay awhile.”

I give Miriam a break on her flat condolence on the phone to Dan. She was already overwhelmed by the news that Dan remarried and was faking it with her. A person can only process so much emotion at one time. She was numb.

Much as I can’t stand Isadora, it was horrible seeing leosordido paw her. The acid was more than enough.

What an idiot Dio turned out to be to blow everything for his reverie in torturing Gussie with his plan to defile Camila. I just wish Gussie had written some Gotcha! note to give to Dio, but I guess that wouldn't have been pious.

After posting my first comment, I went back to check about where LeonCerdo poured the acid, since like Cathyx and some others, I too thought that he had poured it on Hissa's crotch. My second look at the episode confirmed that for me. Her hands are tied to the arms of the chair. They are not in her lap, nor anywhere near the middle of her body. LeonCerdo pours the acid straight down to what would be in line with her neck--i.e., her crotch.

Sorry for the gruesome details, but it seemed to me at the time and again now that pouring acid there is highly appropriate. She's always going on about how Dio should be interested in her, that she's so much more a woman than Camila, yadda yadda yadda. So even though the argument about LeonCerdo's target being her hands makes a lot of sense, too, when I watched the episode again I didn't see him pouring the acid where it would hit her hands.

So Carlos, do we add that t-shirt to the stock at the El Talisman Fresno store? I think it'll do well.

I love that the quality and pacing never really dropped in this show. They keep it up to the very end (looking at you Refugio). And even though I like to make up happy endings for everyone who deserves them, I kinda hope they don't have the big time jump with wrap up. It might be refreshing to let it end with an acknowledgement of things to come without actually showing the couplings that we are pretty sure will happen.

Miriam just can't cut a break, can she? Honestly, if I were rich and could afford someone to change the diapers, I'd pay it. Blech.

Kelly

word ver. (honestly!): isucked, Dionisio's theme for the show.

All the ways he failed:
1. Daniel didn't get killd in Chile. Miriam got hurt but still not killed.
2. Buying MQ from Old Daniel.
3. Stealing MQ from Camila with Isa and Alonso's help.
4. Using Dandres as spy in MQ.
5. Scaring Amanda into never saying anything.
6. Winning over Natalia.
7. Using bull virus to get MQ. Yes, bulls got killed and Daniel got sick, but the ranch and Daniel were saved.
8. Night of ickiness with Camila.
9. Using nicht of ick to get MQ.
Anything else?

Some have said that CdlF has been wooden. I think he has played his parts very well. Who emotes all the time & if so that is acting, not a realistic portrayal. While he is by Camila's side at Aggie's deathbed, I think he acted as expected, at a loss as how to ease the pain of someone you love. There is nothing that can be said except to hold her. He does flirting very well, anger very well, lovemaking very well, kindness very well, what more do you want? OK he also does shirtless extremely well.
I know Silvia does everything better, but she is a rarity.
Can't help myself, VICTORIA RUFFO????? QTF???

Silvia has also done some stage, one with Diana Bracho, who is also great.

Fatima, I thought the payback to Lisabeta in Pasion was too much. She didn't do half of what Isa did, yet she was abandoned in a desert area, gang raped & she was already blind, so she was stumbling around. Of course the good guys didn't know that.

Seems like the bad women are dealt with more harshly than the bad men.

Thank you for the recap! What an episode! I'm thinking this was just the beginning in how tonight's and tomorrow's episodes will be.

Poor Agustina. Although now I understand why she did what she did and I think it was brave of her.

Dio is still crazy. What he tried to do with Cam is disgusting. The outfit he bought really added to the ickiness. To me it looked like a bra from the back.

As for Izzy...Yikes! Leo is really gonna torture her. I do think the acid burned her hands and not anything below the waist. It would be horrifying if that were the case.

Dan and Mir will have to talk things out and I have a feeling she would be more upset than mad. Although I wonder what Dio's Plan B is because it'll affect Dan and possibly Mir too.

The only way that the outfit that Dion bought for Camila could have been more disgusting would be if it were red, or leather.

I was the one who said that Dan's acting at the death scene was bad. I'm commenting on his acting during the scene where Aggie was still alive, not when she passed and he was consoling Camila. To me, he just stood there and said his lines in a stilted monotone voice. I know he could have done better.

About Isa's Karmageddeon, I think that he possibly did burn her coochie and then her hands after. I mean he could have done the three but not at the same time. And he probably ripped her shirt (A CUTE ONE!) to add more to the rape-fest. And it was gross too 'cuz he made out with her and he was still in that stinky, disgusting, putrid garbage-contaminated jumpsuit.

I was coming close to crying while watching Agustina's deathbed scene. And then shivering with revulsion in the first part and again for different reasons in the last part. Talk about a physically demanding episode--for the viewers.

Gobluefan, I too thought that cushioning the blow might be the reason the prison staff said Agustina fell from "las escaleras." Just like in the old "So how's Grandma?" "She's up on the roof" joke.

I too get annoyed with Miriam handing off the baby for diaper changes, and I wonder at her (and Daniel) handing off the baby to be put to bed (why miss such sweet moments?), but then I have to admit that my Peruvian sisters did the same with their children. (The main challenge of a family trip to Disneyworld? "Can we get US visas for the maids?")

I'm with Kelly, if I could have paid someone to change my daughter's diapers, I would have in a heartbeat. Yuck. And to feed her a lot of the time, and sometimes even putting her to bed. She was quite the pain in the butt fairly often when she was an infant. Crying and fussing so often I wanted to pull my hair out. As she got older, it was less of a pain and I didn't mind it as much.
