Amor Bravío #163 (Uni 158) Mon 4/8/13

Capitulo 163: There Will Be Blood, Sweat, and Tears

Lo del pasado

Piedad tells Pablo that Luzma stayed with Natalia the night before to help her prepare; Eleuterio and Rodolfo slack off with some tequila and sympathy, Hipolito begins his new job, Amanda announces that the wedding will not take place.
Lo de nuevo:

Iglesia, Outside: Amanda delivers the apology announcement to their guests.

Amanda: I ask for everyone's attention, please. We are gathered today for the wedding of Natalia and Yago. I'm grateful that you are all here, but at the same time I must offer you an apology. [This gets suspicious expressions on the faces of Iago and Dionicio] because the wedding will not take place. (Camila has a curious expression)
Dionicio (angry): Why will the wedding not take place?
Iago: Why, Amanda?
Amanda: Because Natalia discovered what class of man she had for a father and also what she would have for a husband. (musical crash) Therefore, there is no wedding. Natalia is now in a place where neither of you will ever find her.
Dionicio: Tell me where my daughter is.
Amanda (firmly): No. Neither of you have any rights over her because Natalia hates you. Never did she take the name 'Ferrer' don't you know? Neither will she call you “Father” again.
Iago: Dionicio may not have rights over Natalia but I do because she is expecting my child. [Note, Iagho, that there will be consequences for that public declaration.]
Amanda: Ay, Iago, do you think you will be a good father? That you're interested in this baby? You rejected this baby when you found out she was pregnant! If you changed your mind it wasn't because of love for the baby or for my daughter; it was because of Dionicio's threats.
Iagho: I don't know what you're talking about, Señora.
Amanda: Don't pretend, Iago. Natalia heard you. You and Dionicio talking about your “deal.”
Mariano (beginning to get suspicious): What deal are you talking about, Amanda? (turning to Iago) Iago, answer me. (Iago looks at the ground)
Amanda: Iago sold himself to Dionicio, Mariano. (Cayetano looks shocked and upset. Isadora watches intently) He accepted money and luxuries to marry Natalia and alienate her from me.
Mariano (sternly): Is this the truth, Iago?
Dionicio (indignantly): Of course not!
Amanda: Yes, it is! (Camila looks over at Dionicio) It doesn't matter to me how much you and Iago deny it because Natalia, thank God, opened her eyes just in time. [Cayetano really looks as though he needs to sit down while Isadora pretends to be supportive] Because of this she has left here never to return. [String section flourish into a musical crash and all stare at Amanda as though she were Renée Fleming finishing an aria.]

Commune in Chiapas: We travel down a lovely river, spot a beautiful waterfall, and see the community greet Aaron on his return. He is accompanied by Luzma and Natalia; they have one rolling suitcase each. He introduces the two girls to them, saying they are there to find peace. The women offer to help them settle in and Aaron says they will eat together later. They thank him, Luzma saying that she hopes her mother and Pablo will understand. He tells them that Amanda will see to that.

Iglesia, Outside: El Diablo will not go down easily in any arena.

Dionicio: This will not end like this, Amanda. Nobody makes me look ridiculous. This is about my daughter and I have all the right in the world to know where she is!
Amanda: Because of your attitude, stubbornness, and evil you have lost any rights you could had over her.
Dionicio: You are very mistaken. You better tell me this minute where she is or I will – [We think he means to say “kill you” as he charges in at her.] (Camila and the other women step forward to shield Amanda while Osvaldo, Daniel, and Mariano run up to grab Dionicio. Daniel and Mariano grab him from either side and pull him back. Multiple utterances as Osvaldo goes to Amanda's side.)
Osvaldo: Unfortunately, this man has only knows how to do evil, but this time he [???] because you've lost, Dionicio!
Dionicio (struggling): Let go of me!
Camila (pointing): Leave, Dionicio. You better leave. Leave, por favor.
Padre Anselmo (striding in with robes floating like an avenging angel's wings): This is a house of God! It is for all but I cannot permit a scandalous scene. If you cannot respect that I – along with Camila – ask that you leave.
Dionicio (with calculated calm): Let go of me! (a slight pause, and they do. He stares at both Mariano and Daniel, meeting his eyes, then exits without further ranting)
Osvaldo: Good. Very good, Amanda! You did well, my love; I am so proud of you. You confronted this man to defend your daughter tooth and nail.
Amanda: Thanks. Thanks, my love. (turns to Daniel) Thanks, Daniel. (Daniel hugs her, kisses her forehead, and she leans into him.)
Mariano (shoving Iago away from their father): Once more I'm ashamed of you, Iago. How are you capable of doing this to Natalia? Don't try to deny it because the evidence is here.
Iago: I had to do it.
Mariano: No, you didn't. You're not getting away with this.
Iago: It's true, Mariano. I had no choice. Dionicio sent his men after me. They pulled me out of my car and threatened to kill me. If I didn't comply I'd be in the next world.
Mariano: Why didn't you tell me? Why didn't you denounce this man? (Amanda and Osvaldo approach) The other day I told you he was dangerous and you shouldn't be anywhere near himl, but you said nothing. On the contrary, you went out to meet with him.
Iago: I tell you I had no alternative.
Amanda: Yes, you did, Iago. Yes. Because as Mariano said you could have denounced him. But not only didn't you do that you accepted gifts and luxuries like that watch you're wearing. (looks at it. Mariano picks up Iago's left hand)
Mariano (as Iago jerks his hand away): Is this true?
Iago: Leave me alone. I've been humiliated enough with Natalia not showing up and planting me like this with her accusations and claims. [reclamos]
Amanda: Fortunately, my daughter didn't marry you. (walks away with Osvaldo)
Mariano: Never did I think you would be capable of sinking this low. (Iago walks away, with Mariano staring a hole into his back.)

Amanda hands letters to Piedad and Pablo to explain Luzma's absence. As she leaves, Daniel stops her long enough to tell her how proud he is of Natalia for this. He now understands the conversation from the other day was a farewell. He tells her he will talk to her later and bids Osvaldo to take care of Amanda.

Viviana and Camila talk; neither expected this wedding to end this way. Or not happen, as is the case. Camila borrows Vivi's cell phone to call her own, which is in the hands of Hipolito.

El Diablo's Lair, Outside: The string section sees the danger and gives the appropriate leitmotif, building it step by step up the scale. Hipolito has skeleton keys, which he uses to open the gate, then the front door. An alarm sounds as he opens the door and he runs around the corner without closing either the door or the gate. He answers the cell phone. Camila warns him that the wedding was canceled and it's likely that El Diablo will return promptly to his lair. He apologises, saying the alarm sounded as soon as he got the door open so he ran. He doesn't have the documents she needs. She tells him not to worry and to get back to La Malquerida. She looks worried as she ends the call.

Iglesia, Jardin: Piedad and Pablo sit on benches reading Luzma's letters. She aplogises for the manner in which she did this but needed to take advantage of Natalia's departure to go to a place where she can find peace and safety. She can have neither while Leoncerdo is still at large. She tells her mother to marry Hipolito and be happy. She tells Pablo to see a lawyer for a divorce so he can be free and suggests he take a long trip. The tone of both letters sounds like she has no intention of returning. They both cry, then run back to Amanda to ask where she is. She tells them she can't tell them anything other than that Luzma is safe. Camila interjects that it's important for their peace of mind that Pablo know whether she is alone or with Natalia; Amanda says the girls are together. They had told her not to tell where and she needs to respect their wishes. She takes leave of them. Daniel concludes that it's better this way until Leoncerdo is dealt with. Pablo starts to run off, but Mariano catches up with him for a man-hug and offering his help, being the strong big brother he is.

Iglesia, Interior: Piedad enters to pray to the Virgencita. Amanda follows her in to tell her that Luzma is with Natalia and Aaron in Chiapas. She couldn't tell her this in front of Pablo. She is sure that nobody can harm the girls there. Piedad thanks her and turns to the crucifix on the wall. Both women thank God. [We flies on the wall are hoping that nobody is eavesdropping on them.]

Reclusorio de Mujeres, Yard: Augustina talks to the younger of the two mothers she has met, who tries to reassure her that possibly Camila was trying to make her feel better and that Dionicio was just trying to jerk her chain with his threat to ravish her daughter. She is incredulous that this subhuman would actually do such a thing. Augustina wants to believe this, but doesn't look as though she can. She doesn't know what to think. She had begged Camila not to sacrifice the ranch, but there is no way for her to prevent this. “In truth, I would prefer to die than for my daughter to sacrifice herself.” The other woman tells her not to talk like this, but Augustina is desperate. “Do you know how it feels knowing that someone is about to rape your daughter? That wretch Dionicio would do it. I have to stop him. I have to do it if it's the last thing I do in this life.” As the music goes on in the minor key of mental anguish with some percussion accents she walks away from the other woman alone, staring at the sky.

Iglesia, Jardin: Cayetano sits on the bench, looking less alert than when they left La Buenaventura. [We wonder how Hissadora managed this.] He doesn't understand what Iagho did or why Natalia stood him up at the wedding. Hissadora tells him that Natalia discovered he was marrying her por interes and therefore ditched him. Cayetano doesn't get this, as Iagho has his share of La Buenaventura. Hissadora makes a comment about ambición, but then comments on how this made the family look ridiculous. She suggests they leave before the other people eat them alive. He gets up and they exit.

Mariano finds Rocio praying to the Virgen. He explains to her what this was all about, his hope that this has no effect on the baby, and she laments her earlier selfishness and what a bad example that was for Iagho. She is dying of shame over what he did. They decide to go home.

Cayetano says something about finding Iagho to give him a piece of his mind; Hissadora says he probably is back at the ranch and they start to leave. She thinks “Damn you, Iagho! It's your fault I can't kill Cayetano tonight as I planned.”

El Diablo's Lair, Outside: As they pull up in the black SUV, El Diablo asks what the police are doing in front of his house. Omar parks the car and exits, talking to the uniformed cops in front of the house. They tell him that they came in response to the alarm. They found the gate and the front door open but nobody is inside and nothing appears to have happened. “Are you sure?” he asks. “Yes. Your camera probably caught whatever happened. “ They suggest he check the recording. He assumes a calm demeanor, thanks them, then goes inside with Omar.

La Malquerida, Courtyard: Camila, Piedad, and Dorotea return to find Eleuterio and Rodolfo sitting in the same spot with an empty tequila bottle between them. She gets them to explain that. She then asks if Hipolito is back, but they haven't seen him. Dorotea says nothing but can see that something isn't right. Camila realizes that somehow they have been slacking and Eleuterio explains that Rodolfo was feeling bad because Natalia was marrying Iagho. Camila realizes they were drinking and tells them this was not the time or the place for it regardless of Natalia getting married... or not. Rodolfo gets a little more alert and asks why; Camila explains. Rodolfo asks where she is and they explain. Rodolfo wants to make fajitas out of Iagho, but Camila isn't taking any nonsense at this point. She orders them inside to have coffee and wake up because she needs them awake and alert. They apologise and start in the direction of the hacienda. Eleuterio comments to Rodolfo that since Natalia didn't marry Iagho... and Camila tells them to hurry up. The happy banda music ushers the guys off camera as Piedad looks with disapproval at the empty tequila bottle.

Commune, Luzma and Natalia's Quarters: Natalia isn't hungry; what should have been the happiest day of her life is one of the saddest. Luzma tells her she made the right decision. Natalia was imagining what the latest hours were like for her mother. But Luzma tells her she will help her take care of the baby and they'll be alright. It was an odd cuñada situation with her about to divorce Pablo as Natalia was about to marry Iagho and Natalia expresses concern that Iagho would try to claim their baby. Luzma tells her that Pablo would never permit him to do that. Luzma then asks her not to do for her child what Amanda had done. Don't invent a father that never existed. Don't say he's dead or that he was perfect. When the time comes, tell the truth. That you loved him but he not you, but that you are happy to have the child. Natalia tells her she is happy to be having the baby and she will be a successful single mother, like her own. [Grrrrr; methinks this lets too many men off the hook.] She then asks Luzma if she trusts Aaron's people to help her with her trauma. “not for Pablo, but for yourself.” Luzma says si and they hug.

Park Walkway: Pablo walks slowly, looking at the wedding picture on his cell phone. “Why did you renounce our love?” Other related questions, the sad renunciation song, and a few bars later he takes the letter out of his pocket again.

El Diablo's Lair, Study: El Diablo looks at his laptop for the recording from the front door security camera and sees Hipolito. “That's the chauffeur from La Malquerida.” “Are you sure, Master?” says his chief demon. “He was hear last night delivering flowers. He came to the door and Señorita Natalia let him in.” As he continues to watch other security recordings, including Natalia entering the study during the party he decides that she did this so they could rob him. “Natalia betrayed me. Leave me alone. Tell the police that unfortunately the cameras showed nothing.” Omar tries to change his mind, but doesn't get to complete a word. El Diablo tells him to leave him alone, so he does. As soon as he is out the door El Diablo makes a gesture of frustration, then rises from his desk and opens the door on the left of the sideboard behind him. There is a small safe in it. He punches in the code [Methinks it be 25257] and opens it. There is a pile of cash and the fake passports. No violent outburst so everything must be in place. He closes it, then turns back to the computer to see the recording of the day Augustina was standing outside the door of the study. He flashes back to removing the passports and the cash from the briefcase and locking them in the safe. “You thought to surprise me, but they were the ones surprised. This will have consequences for you, Camila. I'm sure you were behind this.” The horn section speaks of evil to come. He takes out his cell phone.

Cabaña: Camila looks at the photo of herself with Augustina and Ximena from the day that honored her tio and thinks about having to surrender her ranch and her body to El Diablo in order to free her mother. “Nobody must see, nobody must know, nobody can interfere.” Her cell phone rings and she answers. She listens with forced indifference as El Diablo tells her he knows what they tried to do. She asks whether Hipolito took anything.

Dionicio: So far, no. But everything depends on how you behave tonight. That will determine whether or not you get what you have demanded.
Camila: Ya, Dionicio, please let's be sensible. You'll have La Malquerida but why would you want to congress with a woman who despises you? Doesn't that matter to you?
Dionicio: Because I swear that for good or ill you will be mine. You had better be punctual and have a good attitude or you will add to the list of victims.

He ends the call and Camila looks truly defeated.

Laboratory Assistance Desk: Still clad in his traje de charro, Pablo arrives to pick up the results. He takes another look at the wedding photo on his cell as the receptionist fetches the envelope.

La Buenaventura, Study: Iagho takes off his jacket and tie as Hissadora watches him from the next room. She enters, telling him that his father wants to talk to him; he's very annoyed with him. He's upstairs in his room. Iagho gets defensive, blaming everything on El Diablo. She pretends to take his side by saying she understands. He seems to fall for it. Especially since she convinces him that between El Diablo and his own father he was being pressured. She suggests that he go away, take the trip that was planned as the honeymoon to put distance between himself and the issues. “Why don't you leave tonight?” “Alone?” “Well, you don't have to be alone long, do you?” She certainly knows how to play to this stepson's weak points.

Cabaña: Hipolito asks for another chance at El Diablo's lair, but Camila will not hear of it. She emphasizes the danger. She isn't – and can't be – sure that El Diablo will have her mother released before she surrenders La Malquerida but that will help prove that he is a swindler. Finally, she tells him not to tell anyone what really happened that day; that he was unable to get in and that he will try again tomorrow. Which will not happen. He reluctantly agrees.

El Diablo's Lair, Study: Estevez is in the guest chair, apologizing for the unfortunate timing but there is something he has to tell him. He met with the other shareholders and they convinced him he had to tell him something Hissadora didn't want him to know. It's a change to the entire deal. Hissadora is planning to leave him out of the part of the deal about La Buenaventura (which would make her the majority shareholder of the whole deal). They can't afford any more complications from this point on. Any more and they will take legal action against him and Black Widow Lazcano. As he tries to keep from exploding into an infernal ball of fire, El Diablo tells him not to worry, that he is well aware that Monday will be the final deadline. He will have everything ready. Estevez tells him he will expect him in his office at noon on Monday. He takes a last sip of his drink, wishes him a good evening, and exits. After the door is closed, El Diablo picks up his own drink, throws it at the chair, then paces in frustration. Scene-ender czrdas measure closes this little scene.

Hostal, Breakfast Room: Daniel and Amanda sit down to coffee, talking about how the events shocked not only El Diablo, but everyone else. He is still worried that the girls are alone without protection and Amanda worries us by telling him where they are. They will be together to take care of each other. Daniel realizes that this is why Aaron left when he did. Amanda is relieved that neither El Diablo nor Iagho can find Natalia. Daniel is sure she doesn't need to worry about Iagho, who never wanted to marry Natalia in the first place. It was only about El Diablo's threats. Daniel has a lightbulb moment when it occurs to him that if only Iagho would bring charges against El Diablo he can be arrested and Camila will not have to surrender her entire being to the devil. Amanda asks if he's sure Iagho will help, but he says he has to try. He gets up and exits to go over to La Malquerida. [Really, since time is at a premium now shouldn't he have called Mariano?]

La Malquerida, Kitchen: Piedad is very upset at how Luzma chose to leave. Hipolito tells her that it was easier to do this than to hear her begging her to stay. In due time she will be at peace when she doesn't have to worry about Leoncerdo or see Pablo. Piedad realizes he is right, and a few sentences later tells him she may have cancer. She will have the results on Monday.

Commune: Aaron introduces Luzma to an alternative therapist. Talk of how all therapies are not created equal and how this therapy is about her and her sense of inner peace, Pablo notwithstanding. Aaron tells her he wouldn't recommend this if he didn't think it might be effective. She agrees to try this.

La Buenaventura: Minor keys in the violins as we see Iagho in everyday clothes going over some papers. Mariano enters, enquiring about their father and Hissadora. Cayetano is upstairs in his room and Hissadora went out a little while ago. “Why?” Mariano relays what Pablo just called him about, that Hissadora had been poisoning their father with potassium. He checked the internet and it reported their father's exact symptoms (fatigue, lack of energy, memory loss) and soon he would have become a puppet [titere] she could manipulate however she wanted. Little do either of them realize that Hissadora is just outside the room eavesdropping and none of the three see that Leoncerdo is just outside the window also eavesdropping. “I see you want to kill Don Cayetano, beggar woman,” he thinks before slinking away. He doesn't hear that Pablo and Sherlock Juarez are on their way over to arrest her for attempted murder. Iagho -- and Hissadora -- son impactados.

¡No te pierdes los ultimos capitulos de este gran historia!

It's been a great pleasure to work on this series. I will be staying on for Que Bonito Amor, which has two of my favorite men, a good supporting cast, and – we hope – lots of good music. See you next Monday!

UA, it was a pleasure to read your timely and eloquent recaps. I am a Pablo Montero fan, too. So I'll see you next week.
Tonight's episode was a good one to recap. Amanda was great!! And Dionisio was going to hit Amanda for speaking the truth, how low can he sink???
Ooow and Isadora's number may be finally up. I can't wait to see tomorrow night's episode. Mendiga Vieja!!!!

Many thanks, UA, not only for this recap but for all the wonderful recaps you've provided so promptly every Monday. I'm going to miss your inimitable style, since I've decided to move over to Telemundo for "El Señor de los Cielos." Jorge Salinas and Arturo Peniche are normally big draws for me, but Mejia is not, and the little snippets of the TN that I've seen have turned me off.

Anyway, getting back to Amor Bravío, I loved the photos of Amanda and Renee Fleming. Yes, Amanda was in rare form as delivered her aria, and the crowd responded with the TN equivalent of "Brava!" And I too was a rather nervous fly on the wall fearing that Someone Evil would overhear what Amanda tells Piedad in the church.

I also agree with you that it would have been more sensible for Dan to phone Mariano about the possibility of Iago filing a complaint against Dionisio, rather than take the extra time to go over to La Buenaventura. I suspect, however, that Dan would prefer to approach Iago directly and not involve Mariano.

When you said that Pablo takes the letter out of his pocket again, I think what he takes out is not the letter again but the receipt for the drops he handed in to be analyzed. That apparently reminds him that perhaps the results are ready, and he heads for the lab.

Though we didn't have anyone eavesdropping on Amanda and Piedad in the church, we had a double eavesdropping at La Buenaventura, with both Hissadora and Leoncio eavesdropping on the conversation between Mariano and Iago. I can't wait to see how this plays out!

Let me be the first to say thanks for decifering this exciting episode. As usual love your musical acompaniments. Personally I don't think having everyone go through the time and expense of preparing for a wedding that was not going to happen was the best strategy. Even Father Aselmo was surprised. Oh well, I guess the plan was to publicy expose and humiliate both Yago & Dio.
Can't wait for closure on some of the several lose ends and unresolved subplots.

UA...Renee Fleming!!! I LOVE it and a BRILLIANT choice!!!

What an episode...yikes...what an episode. Can someone be proud of a novela person? Well...I was so proud of Amanda. Every word delivered with perfect timing. She was one cool customer. I could replay that scene several times over.

Then, there was the sadness of Agustina. She looks so desperate and is not thinking clearly at all. This is so worrisom;so worrisome. I don't know. The tone of her voice just worried me. She's done her penance. I don't want to see something bad happen to her.

Any story after this is going to be hard to watch (I still can't get into the comedy that is running now), but I am thrilled that you will be writing for this next one, UA!! I think Vivi in DC is going to write for the new one as well. It will feel like old times.

Crazy, isn't it? I want to know the end of the story, but I don't want it to end.

Fatima

Almost forgot, but do you think we will ever see Alonso's mother show up somewhere before the end of the story?

It's too late at night. That last post was me, Fatima

What a ride! Thank you, Urban, for your always prompt and wonderful recap. Looking forward to your stylistic take on QBA.

Thanks for the recap! I too was on the edge of my seat. During the discussion with Dan too, I kept wondering if someone was going to walk in and report to Dio what was being said.

I originally thought about watching the next one with its music and beautiful clothes. Then I saw the lead (Sorry not a TN regular and can't remember names.) in one of those cowboy hats he wore in the first TN I watched and hated, the one where the writer polled the audience for the happy ending, and the lead woman campaigned for Cesar. I am not a fan of those cowboy hats. Besides, I am working on learning German too for a trip to Germany this summer.

I will take a break. You can't top what is ending here.

Cindy

Urban- This was a fantastic final AB recap from you. How perfect that you got the full Amanda scene and so easily related it to an aria from your beloved opera. That was indeed an applause worthy moment for Amanda. And bravo to you too amiga for giving us such wonderful recaps each week. I look forward to reading your recaps, especially your appreciation of the music, on QBA.

Fatima- Ellie, who is a Jorge Salinas lover and a native Spanish speaker, will now be taking the recapping slot I was going to do on QBA. I think we’ll all be better off for it because of her love for the actor and her language skills. And it frees me up to watch El Señor de los Cielos in real time if I choose, although I will be watching both shows (at least initially).

Foxy- Since no one flew/drove in from out of town, and Dion paid for everything, I don’t think it was too much of an expense for the folks of Aculco to get dresses up and head to the church on a Saturday. Plus, they got a WAY better show than a wedding with Amanda telling Dion and Yago off like that. This will be the main source of gossip in town, in the region, for months to come I bet. LOL!

Dion was not having a good day. First the public shaming and showing his true colors to the town by nearly hitting a woman; then learning that his hija had betrayed him by helping the MQ gang break into his office; then finding out that Isa had cut him out of the BV deal. And I hope it only continues to get worse and that his plans to “have” Camila that night go south.

It sounded from what Camila was saying to Hip, that she won’t hand over MQ to Dion until he hands over the evidence to free her mom. But it also seems that she will hand over her body first, and she’s not going to tell anyone about it! Ay yay yay! And Gussy’s increased desperateness worries me too. This is all not headed to a good place.

Poor Pablo getting his heart broken by Luzma broke my heart. I’m glad he still had his wits about him enough to pick up the lab report and to inform Mariano and the cops. I don’t believe the results showed potassium, but instead toloache (locoweed). Isa was planning to give him the potassium that night, as the final death blow.

Drunk and disheveled Eleuterio and Rodolfo were so cute. I’m glad Camila and the women scolded them, but I couldn’t suppress a smile when they both smiled happily about Nat ditching Yago at the altar.

You know, Olivia B. is doing such a wonderful job showing the increasing desperateness of Agustina. Cindy's comment about Triunfo del Amor made me wonder how Victoria Ruffo would have acted out these jail scenes if she had the Gussy role. Nothing against VR, but all I can hear in my head are histrionic wails and sobs of "mi hija!", and I can see me rolling my eyes. Not so with Olivia playing desperate Gussy. I feel her despair. She really is a great actress.

Thank you, UA, for a series of wonderful recaps. This was no exception, with your notations of the musical changes recreating the actions and emotions so well. (Your mention of the minor chord signifying Agustina's anguish made me think of the moving first stanza of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah.)

Amanda's moments were fantastic, but I cringed when she shared the destination of the young women with Piedad. It would take some time for Dio and company to find them in Chiapas and, gee, he has bigger fish to fry at the moment with Estevez' news, but the walls do seem to have ears at one time or another in every TNs.

Olivia was very moving last night. I agree, Vivi, that she has been excellent throughout. Her atonement is so reasonable, her desperation wrenching.

Thanks, all, for sharing your plans for what comes next. Watching novelas is so much more fun with all of you. If I hadn't been completely worn down by FELS and so taken with this good, complex novela, I might have tried QBA, but think I will pass. I am going to give El Senor a try.

UA, I have seen snippets of the first half hour of this every now and again and your recap caught my eye.

While I can't really speak to the plot (other than Evora and Bucio have been brillant), your recaps continue to be amazing. Even not following the story, your conversation translations were perfect and your details as immaculate and precise as always.

You are amazing.

Diana

Thanks, guys. It was a true privilege to work on this series despite not being able to get really literary with it, as with LQNPA. The characters are excellent, beautifully consistent, and there were relatively few head-scratchers. However, the ones in this series were big ones.

Great work by these actors, too. Cesar Evora really embraces his inner devil when he is in villain mode. Vivi, you are so on the money about Olivis Bucio vs. Victoria Ruffo. I tried watching her current series but couldn't manage it. Her tear ducts must be insured by Lloyd's because they are the prime asset of her career. The actor who plays her oldest son, though, may have a brilliant future as a villain.

Prediction: We'll be seeing CE and LC together again because they have such fabulous chemistry.

Yes, Vivi and UA, so true about the contrast between Olivia and VR, with Olivia being so moving in AB. Love the line about VR's insured tear ducts.

Just a thought: I have seen VR is so few TNs that haven't telegraphed every theme and plot line, that I can't imagine her in something more thoughtful. Olivia is very good in this in part because the material is more complex than in many (maybe most) TNs. VR made a short novela called Victoria with Arturo Peniche that was supposed to be much better than the usual and showed VR at her best. On my list!

I didn't watch that one, but she does have good chemistry with Arturo Peniche.

Back to our story: I did like how Eleuterio and Rodolfo's spirits picked up at hearing that Natalia didn't marry Iagho. However, I wasn't sure about his next move when he interacted with Hissadora at the hacienda and she was trying to talk him into taking the trip that was booked as the honeymoon. Will he make the mental leap to realizing that she is looking for an opportunity to get him out of the house so she can do Cayetano in?

UA thanks for the recap and your wonderful writing and fans. The time and cultural references (especially opera) you put into your work enrich us all.

While Iago may not make the mental leap Isa was trying to manipulate him, the present crisis of his father's poisoning will probably keep him in Mexico.

Vivi - yes Dio was having quite a bad day and I hope he does not take it out on Cam. And OB has been great; she has such a range from harpy to kind/nice person to mother in anguish.

United A:
"Methinks it be 25257" Too bad we can't communicate this telepathically to Cam and posse. I cringed seeing that safe and how he'd transferred all the incriminating items into it.

===========
Thanks again, UA, for the great recaps and the operatic flair you bring to these yowling alleycat-style telenovelas! Glad you'll be along for the QBA ride!

Traveling Lady- I saw “Victoria” by recording it when it came on Telefuturo/UniMas a few years ago. It is very good, and the best work I have seen VR do. She’s still in worrywart, wringing hands mode. But then she gets the chance to kick her cheating hubby (Peniche) out of her life and start fresh, starting her own business and starting a relationship with a much younger man (Mauricio Ochman). Definitely a good tn.

Gracias, Jardinera. Since some of my favorite men are in QBA it will be a pleasure. Mejia is very weak on scripts but somehow always hits high notes with music. As I type this I'm watching the ultimos capitulos of AMF and the fabulous background music by Jorge Avendano compensated for the leaps of logic in the story. They're about to show the story's most emotionally manipulative scene; I hope I can manage not to cry.

Of course that series has Cesar Evora and Pablo Montero. I had never seen Pablo before and after this I told my friends they could start calling me Mrs Robinson.

I don't know whether breaking and entering to get evidence jives with the rules of evidence in Mexico. However, El Diablo is now strait-jacketed somewhat by being outed in public by his own behavior.

Tks so much UA, your recaps have been a pleasure. I also like Jorge y Pablo, but not Mejia, so I'm moving to Cielos also.

The native therapist was cuddling a small animal, I couldn't make out what it was, maybe a monkey? It's is when the girls & Aaron are talking to her about helping Luzma.

Maldito, Hipolito didn't get the goods. Surprised Aggie didn't know about the safe.

Tonight is the finale for Iza I'm afraid. I'm sure it will be cringeworthy.

4 episodes left, boo hoo.

Premios
AB best TN
Silvia best lead
CdlF best lead
Leticia best Villain
Mariana van Rankin (Luzma) revelacion
Maja best dog
Luis Couturier best (whatever they call it)
Everyone else was wonderful, I just have to see what they are up against

If Silvia, Leticia & AB don't win, I'll will be muy muy angry.

Vivi in DC, I'm disappointed that you won't be on the next novela with UA. :(

I don't have Telemundo, so won't be watching the novela you mention with the former AB "Gang". This is a narco type story, right? I suspect it will have a lot of violence? Maybe it's ok that I don't get Telemundo as the whole narco business is very upsetting to me.

UA, I'm really going to miss those fans, too. They are so lovely. Each Monday I have looked forward to seeing which fan you will post.

Even if the next novela is not good because of the producer/director you mention, I"m sure your recap will MORE than make up for a lousy story.

I can't get Agustina's scenes out of my mind. They were really so very sad.

I have to ask again about Alonso's mother. These writers seem to have made sure to tie up every loose end. Are there so many jails in that area that Alonso's mother could be in a totally different jail and this is why we have not seen her? Seems to me that she still has some key information, but maybe all of those questions have been answered and she is no longer "needed" in the story line.

Fatima

Vivi, you are so observant. I love your take on the public humiliation of Dio. Since I had no idea that the wedding wasn't going to happen it initially seemed that Amanda stole the limelight when it should have been Nat's time to get the adrenalin rush and closure from telling off Dio and Yago.

Al's mom already shared as much info as she knew. It would have been nice to see her and Gussy meet up in prison, but perhaps the actress had to go off and do other things and this was really only a special appearance for her few episodes. She really was perfect for the role.

Does anyone know why Google is suddenly making me sigh in everytime I post even though I have checked the box to stay signed in.

Thanks UA, you've been downright awesome throughout this entire TN.

Variopinta,

"The native therapist was cuddling a small animal, I couldn't make out what it was..."

Probably someone has already beaten me to the punch in identifying that as a chicken. She is lovingly cradling a shiny black chicken and gently stroking his head and neck. I've no doubt that this chicken will play a central role in one of Luzma's upcoming therapy sessions. The lady's name is Brisa by the way.

Carlos

Tina Romero also played the long-suffering mother of FC in AMF. She is currently in a new production -- ironically -- called Rosario which is being done in Venezuela (She is not the title character). Co-stars will be Guy Ecker and Lorena Rojas. Sergio Reynoso (Pigorio from Tal) will also be in it.

Honestly, as bad as Mejia's scripts get I think the ones out of Venevision are worse.

Carlos, you beat me to that. I also thought it was a monkey at first, but I did scratch my head at it being a chicken. She probably keeps it for its eggs.

Thank you so much, UA. It is such a pleasure for me to wake up at 5:30 AM and read your recap. I can get the gist of a TN but that's it. I would miss so many details.

Now, most importantly, I finally finished Destinos that you told me about under: http://learner.org/resources. It was slow going at first but then it was so good that I started watching it every day. I am going to watch it again.

Based on the previews, I had decided that I did not want to watch Que Bonita Amor. Now that I know that you are recapping, I will be watching. However, I don't believe that it will be good like AB!

I just checked Mejia's resume and discovered that nothing on it is original; all his productions are remakes, most of which I haven't seen previous versions of.

What does that say about his status at the network?

If the objective of remaking a previous series is to improve upon it, they're misfiring left, right, and sideways.

It says that the network doesn't care, probably never did and probably never will.

This Mejia guy must be the fair haired boy or something. Why else would he be given so many opportunities? Of course, he must be making dollars for the company, too.

If he is so bad, then why do the good actors want to work for and with him? Does this guy wield that much power down there?

Fatima

This is something that Jarocha (our knowledgable friend in Mexico) said about Mejia way back during Sortilegio:
"Unfortunately Mejía has a high position in Televisa right now. He has the right to say which telenovelas go and which don't and he sometimes picks the novelas that producers should do. For example Angelli Nesma the producer of Gancho had already picked her next production and had reunited her work team and started casting for the roles but he decided he didn't want her to do that story so he picked a 2005 novela from Venezuela and told her to remake that one, so she had to change many things from pre-production. He has that power. I don't understand why someone gave him that position but that's why he has been able to pick and choose all the works he wants to do even if they are considered classics like "Corazón Salvaje" and "Cuna de Lobos"."

Aggie be strong. I don't want you to miss the chance to gloat a Dio behind bars. I really should have included her in my premios. Her performance has gotten better & better. OB used to be a dancer.

I will try to avoid Victoria Ruffo, she grates on my last nerve. I catch a little of Lagrimas before Manda & w/o fail she is sobbing. As vivi said,mi hija, mi hija, mi hija, she did that at every waking moment for 20 years in Triunfo.

Those watching QBA, at least the worst TN is fodder for the best recaps.

I thought for sure Aggie would run into Rosario. TN's have a penchant for coincidence.

Carlos, tks about the chicken, reminds me of my Henrietta when I was a niña. Around here they use them for Santaría. Just recently we had a rooster that blew in with a hurricane until a fox got him.

Fatima, The actors work for Mejia because it is a paycheck. I just hate to see Wm Levy work for him, his career is coming along well & I don't want to see him in a piece of crap. The actors are probably saying to themselves "pls don't call me".
I don't know if he has power over the established ones, the beginners are just happy to get the exposure.

What Mejia did to Corazon Salvaje should be punishable by hanging.

Chicken or not, I'd sure love to be in Chiapas -- at least as depicted here. Beautiful scenery, fresh air, loving people. Even if too good to be true it's a captivating image.

I think those folks have chosen to live together in an off-the-grid commune, so they're already a different sort of people. It was nice to see Aaron back among "his people". He seemed so happy, and they were all so happy to see him too. I'm sure there are quite a few ladies in the community that have the hots for him. :)

Thanks so much for all the recaps UA!

Things seemed to be really dragging and repetitive for quite a while, but did they ever pick up the pace last night! I have a feeling that this week is going to be a whirlwind - there is a lot to resolve.

UA: Thanks so much for an awesome recap, especially for the dialogue during the “wedding” scene. I’m going to miss your recaps. I can’t do another 10:00 TN, so I’m continuing with PEAM until the new 7:00 starts, then I’ll decide which one I’m sticking with. Definitely looking forward to the next Carlos M. TN.

Why didn’t anyone putting together Aaron’s leaving before the wedding and Nat and Luz being gone? It seemed so obvious to me.

Why is Amanda telling the whole freakin’ world—and in public places—where the girls are? If this TN wasn’t almost over, I’d be worried. Actually, I think them being on Aaron’s turf, he and his people could probably protect them from all comers. Or hide them for as long as it took.

Loved the alternative therapist and her pet chicken (I really couldn’t make it out, but guessed it was a chicken because I kept hearing chickens cackling).

I wish the avances wouldn’t give so much away.

Nanette

Sorry to bring up the bad memories of Triumfo Del Amor. I had blocked the memories of both the titles and the incessant "mi hija." I liked that series far longer than others, but that stupid poll that ended up with Evora changed my mind. Happily, my next TN was Alborado, or I may never watch another.

I think I forgot to say thanks, UA. For all the recappers, thanks. As an intermediate Spanish student, your toil saves my tale, so to speak.

Cindy

UA, thanks for the recaps. always in depth, witty, literate. I will miss the fans. What a nifty collection.

Mejia (assuming I read right) is the chief of Televisa's TN programming. Everybody effectively works for him, and if Televisa is No. 1 in Mexico, he gets the credit and has the power. If the latest Corazon Salvaje didn't oust him, not sure what would. (haven't seen all of it, but was shown contrasting scenes with the 93 version from DVD)

Won't be able to follow closely either the QBA or the Ceilos one, but I am glad I found time to watch at least one TN fairly consistently, and I will be dropping in from time to time now that I know that the recaps will help me fill in the gaps.
I know, this is not a recipe for becoming a good community member, nor for watching closely enough to really improve my Spanish, but watching one or more daily shows is just a bit too much for me on an ongoing basis.

I'll try to remember to shuffle my feet a bit from time to time, but know now that the recapping efforts are much appreciated.

Does pitching in (a bit) to save Caye, and his own inheritance, suffice to merit redemption for Iago? Augustina sure seems to be paying a much higher price for her history of familial incompetence.

PS
After Dio tosses his highball: "Scene-ender czrdas measure closes this little scene."
"czrdas"?

Now that Luzma is hidden in Chiapas, it's safe for me to watch again. I'm grateful to the writers for taking any Luzma-Leoncerdo encounter off the table so I can enjoy the final week.

In order for Nat to get away cleanly from Dio (since his men are everywhere), she absolutely had to go through with the wedding plan, not just pretend. Dio's thugs, in particular Omar, would be quick to report back to him if something seemed amiss. So what if Dio went through all the expense for nothing? That's another "gotcha" from Nat to him - here, Daddy, waste your money on this!

Yago is not smart enough to figure out Isa was just trying to get rid of him. Besides, he's too ego-centric to think of anyone but himself. In his eyes, right now HE is the 'victim' - after all, look what he has just been through, pobrecito. Also, that lascivious grin on his face when Isadora said he wouldn't be alone for long says it all. He's already thinking of his next conquest. If Mariano hadn't told him what's going on, he would have happily gone on his one-man honeymoon to pick up chicks!

Urban A you are being invaded by an advertiser, called "see now". I just deleted his/her post off my recap on PEAM. I suggest you do it too.

Vivi said almost all the recaps have been hit by this person in the last two days.

THanks for commenting Cheryl.... I deleted the same thing from the blog from Weds recap. I went back to investigate and it was back again....

UA - Nice recap! And I would like to congratulate you on having done such a fine job of leading the week for all the recappers to follow.

Jardinera - I would like to also thank you for your fine recap... IMO, it was one of your all time best...clean crisp and very funny.

UA - Thanks for a wonderful recap. Enjoyed every fabulous detail.

Love Amanda getting the best of Dio. I could watch him losing it and charging her, only to be held back by Daniel and Mariano, again and again.

I misspelled "czardas", which is often a finish to a dance in Hungarian folk music. In operas and similar music it's used for emphasis, particularly at the close of a scene or an act.

Soyyo, I think you have called Iago correctly on his IQ. He isn't smart enough to figure this out. He doesn't see anything past his own sex drive.

Vivi, I wonder if Mejia married into the Azzcarga family. Has to be something like that.

Now that my taxes are done I can relax for a day or two before jumping into the next series. I'm downloading headers and will look for stills.

Vivi in DC and Variopinta, thank you for explaining the Mejia business. Now I gets it. :)
