Amores Verdaderos #116 Wed 4/24/13 How Lucía came to be Liliana

Aníbal assures Victoria that he will take care of Nelson and his dastardly blackmailing scheme.  And then maybe Arriaga -- and Liliana -- will be willing to come back to the mansion.  The old reprobate has no trouble believing in Victoria's innocence.  Fooling around with her bodyguard?  Please.  (¿En qué cabeza cabe que mi hija -- ¡una Balvanera! -- se relacione con su guardaespaldas?)

It is a new day at the mansion.  Adriana has read a couple of chapters of Victoria's novel and, remarkably, doesn't mock her.  Not even a little.  Instead she offers her support and her discretion.  Did Nelson read her romantic tale and think that it was fact, not fiction? Well no, says Vikki, there was a video -- a dirty trick really.  Adriana suggests that Nelson himself might have been behind the video.  It makes sense -- he was so jealous of Arriaga.

When Candelaria returns from mass, she finds Aníbal waiting for her in the apartment lobby.  He is anxious to talk.  He says he's concerned because Arriaga and Lili haven't come back to work.  Cande brushes him off, telling him that Arriaga is already looking for work elsewhere.  Aníbal persists: he just wants to offer his support.  Cande isn't interested.  If she didn't ask for help when she found out she was pregnant, she's surely not going to do so now.   She sniffs at his claim that their love was the purest one he ever lived (el más limpio que he vivido) -- Pure??? And you with your wife and your two children???

Vikki makes a confession to Adriana: "Estoy enamorada de José Ángel Arriaga."  The sisters dissolve into giggles and hug each other joyfully.  Adriana is glad that Vikki is unafraid to speak the truth; and she's happy her sister is sharing something so intimate (algo tan tuyo) with her.

Aníbal keeps trying to find the prize that will win over Candelaria (and Lili, of course).  A house?  A life of luxury?  An education for Lili at the best university in Mexico?  Candelaria dismisses these material things.  And imagine -- for a moment she thought he was going to offer Lili his apellido.  What a disappointment he is!  She wants nothing more to do with him.

When Candelaria gets back to the apartment, Lili is on her way out.  She is going to a bookstore downtown.

Once Lili leaves, Candelaria goes to the small statue of the Virgin where Lili has placed the only family photo of Cristina.  Cande speaks aloud:

Daughter, forgive me for hiding so many things from you. My only excuse is that I did it out of love.  I didn't want you hurt by a father who would never have acknowledged you.  And I tried to protect you from the grief of losing your baby.  When I held that little one in my arms, I thought she was a divine gift, the child you needed to soothe your pain.

I have always lived with the weight of my guilt for keeping silent.

José Ángel enters the room and listens as Cande continues:

Hija mía, por favor, perdóname, mi vida.

JA speaks up.  What is Cristina supposed to forgive?

Adri and Vikki are still having a gigglefest in Vikki's bedroom.  Does Arriaga feel the same way about Victoria?  ¡Ay! ¡No sé!  Squee! Giggle!

Crash.  Nelson walks in and sucks all the joy out of the room.  Adri wisely takes her leave, first asking to borrow a pint of Guzmán, which is fine because Nikki isn't going out.

What now, Nelson?
[The Patio people are tense.  "Keep him away from the chairs, Vikki" yells Vida2].
Nelson admits he wasn't thinking straight last night (me ofusqué) -- not that he didn't have good reason! -- and he blabbed things in front of the Pavías and Aníbal that he shouldn't have.  Now, for Nikki's sake, he wants a truce.  Vikki accepts the deal -- if it means he'll put a lid on the insults and offenses.  For Nikki's sake.

And back in the apartment, JA is still trying to get Candelaria to tell him what she is asking forgiveness for.  He can't believe she and Cris had any secrets.  She finally yields to his pressure: I never told her who her real father was.

Aníbal, as promised, takes charge of getting rid of the incriminating DVD.  He instructs Salsero to retrieve it from the safe in Nelson's closet and then to destroy it.

Arriaga goes a little bonkers now as he tries to get Cande to reveal the name of Cris's father.  Cristina had the right to know, he says angrily.  She may be gone but what about Lili?  Is Cande going to keep her from knowing who her grandfather is?  JA actually grabs his little suegra and scuffles a bit with her.  She has the right to hold onto her secrets, he says, but sooner or later, the truth will come to light.

Salsero finds the DVD in Nelson's safe and -- without playing it to make sure it's the right one -- destroys it with a knife.  Salsero knows very well that this isn't the original.  Kendra must have that one and he has to find it.

Speaking of the devil -- and I do mean the devil -- Kendra shows up at the mansion for some girl talk.  She and Nikki plus Vikki and Tomi  sit down and get to chatting about wedding stuff.  Salsero comes downstairs.  Don Aníbal has asked him to take some documents to his office.  Is that ok?  Vikki doesn't mind.  She isn't going out today.

JA pays a visit to the officer in charge of Cristina's case.  The police know now that Cris was not killed because she crossed the street carelessly.  Someone was driving erratically, as if on drugs, and ran right over her.  They have the license, make and model of the truck but they haven't found it or the driver yet.  [And we know they won't because Espanto has covered his tracks.]  Arriaga is furious that the SOB who killed his wife is running loose while Cristina is six feet under.

Candelaria gets a phone call from Lili.  Adriana has invited her to an orchid show and she will be back in a couple of hours.  [On the Patio, the Gringo smiles at the thought of the Little Orchid among the orchids.]

The doorbell rings.  It is Opalina.  In purple.  Which is a color that is fraught with symbolism.  Or not.  Is Arriaga home?  No.  Is Lili home? No.  Good.  Opalina has arrived just at the right time to talk to Candelaria.  Alone.  Talk?  Us?  About what?  Opalina tells the story:

When Cris was about to give birth, JA was with her at her mother's wake.  She threw the snails to find out if Cris was having a girl or a boy.  Opalina could see from their pattern that the child was stillborn.

Candelaria appears momentarily stunned by this story.  Then she retorts:  Well your snails were wrong!  As you can see, Liliana is alive!

But Opalina continues her story:

It was very sad news and I preferred to keep silent.  I only said that when he returned to the pueblo, Cristina was going to have a little girl in her arms.  And he was going to love the child very much.  But I didn't say that the child carried his blood.

Candelaria has no energy left to challenge Opalina's snails. Opalina assures her that no one else needs to know about this conversation.  It is just between the two of them.  But she wants to know one thing: Did Cristina know that Lili wasn't really her daughter?  Candelaria shakes her head and in a very small voice answers:  No.  The only one who knows that secret is me.  Only me.

Guzmán, Adriana and Lili stroll through the greenhouse and admire the orchids.  Lili basks in their attention and affection.

Salsero is clearly not concerned about leaving any traces behind when he rummages roughly  through KendraLand, throwing aside cushions, covers and piles of whorish clothes.  He finds a secret panel in her closet and behind it, a small niche.  Bingo!  There is the original disc!  And there is one of Victoria's necklaces which is proof that Kendra was behind the fake abduction of Tomasina.  But Salsero leaves the necklace where he found it.  He has accomplished what he set out to do.  Now Arriaga can work for the Balvaneras without worrying about Nelson or that damned whore trying to blackmail Victoria.

Now we get the story of the baby switch -- including fuzzy flashbacks -- according to Candelaria:

It was a difficult labor.  After Cristina had suffered hours of agony, the doctor informed her that her granddaughter had died and that Cristina …

Opalina completes her thought since Candelaria cannot say the words:

that it was Cristina's destiny not to bear children.

Yes, that's how it was, agrees Candelaria.  She went to the chapel to pray.  And then a miracle occurred:

My friend Abigail, who is also a nurse, told me -- and she was scared to death! -- that the doctor had asked her to get rid of a newborn baby because the family didn't want it.  That the poor creature was going to end up in an orphanage.  Abigail knew what had happened to my daughter.  And she offered me that little angel.  She said she deserved a home -- and what better parents could she have than Cristina and José Ángel.

Candelaria accepted the baby.  She did it to keep her daughter from suffering.  At the time, she thought she was doing the right thing.  But now she doesn't know …

Cande hears José Ángel at the door.  She doesn't want him to see her right now, as distraught as she is.  She escapes to her room and Opalina greets him.

JA is happy to see Opalina.  He tells her what the police captain said about Cris's death. And now the bastard who took her life is sleeping easy without any idea that he has destroyed a whole family!

Which brings us back to Kendra Schadenfreude Ferretti, a woman who thrives on the misery of others.  She leans on her apartment door and gloats.  Foolish Nikki!  She doesn't realize that I'm going to go from best friend to stepmother!  Bwahahahaha!

But now she notices the disorder left behind by Salsero.  She heads to her cubbyhole, notes that her jewels are still there.  But the DVD is gone!  That's that damned Salsero's work!  He's the only one who could have done it!  But hold the phone -- Kendra turns out to be a glass half full kind of girl:

¡No hay mal que por bien no venga!
(This is a blessing in disguise,There is no bad that doesn't yield some good)

Kendra starts tossing chairs and lamps around and gloats once more:  You have no idea of the favor you just did me, Puchis!

Arriaga pours out his heart to Opalina.   She tells him he has to accept the fact that Cristina is with God.  But he feels the pangs of his loss over and over again, each time he enters the apartment and he realizes he will never see her or feel her or hear her again.

Opalina says he has to go on living.  He can't close himself up in his pain.  And it isn't right that he has left señora Victoria.  That woman has been very good to him.

[A plaintive solo cello has been playing but now it is replaced by the Victoria/Arriaga song.  One of my kids has told me he hates dramas where the music tells you how you are supposed to feel.  Clearly he is no telenovela fan.  Meh.  His loss.]

Arriaga says Victoria called him last night.  She said nothing but he knew it was she.  He thanked her.  That's what he should have done, says Opalina.  Cristina is at peace and he can't do anything for her now.  But señora Victoria needs him as much as Liliana does -- perhaps more …

Lili and Adri and Guzmán take photos of each other against the backdrop of the orchids.  They ask someone to take some shots of the three of them.  They look good together.

Nelson barks at Salsero when he sees him in the hallway at Meta Imagen.  Why isn't he home taking care of Victoria?  But Aníbal makes it clear that Salsero is working for him today.  Once Nelson is gone,  the Salsa Dude reports that he took care of business.  Aníbal wants to pay him for his services.  Salsa Dude doesn't want to accept money -- he did this for justice!  Even so, insists Aníbal, every job has a price.  Not this one -- Salsero's satisfaction is worth more to him than any fat check.  Aníbal smiles wryly.  He guesses that is a matter of opinion.

Now playing at the Balvanera mansion -- It's the Kendra Show!  She wails, she weeps, she whines!  She has been robbed!  Her savings!  Her jewels! Everything is destroyed!  What will she do?  Could it be the work of the kidnappers?  What if they are after her?  They are going to kill her!  But she'll just be moseying along now … wouldn't think of imposing on the Balvanera family …

The Ikki's insist that she stay with them.  It's the safest place for her.  Really.

Nelson meanders by and Nikki tells him the news. She is surprised by his response:  No way, José!  It isn't proper to have guests right now.  We are getting ready for a wedding.

But Nikki isn't going to leave poor Kendra to fend for herself.  Not when she is with child and the cowardly father of her baby is a married man who isn't willing to take responsibility.

Nelson looks daggers at Kendra.  Victoria's jaw drops.  And Kendra just keeps fake-sobbing.

Somewhere in the servant's quarters, Balzac feasts contentedly on scraps from yesterday's untouched dinner.

Avances:  Roy tells Nikki she has to choose -- him or me!  Vikki and Arriaga have an encounter.  Nelson is close to being outed.

Wonderful recap NM! Our plot catalyst Opalina strikes again, providing Cande with someone she can invitees herself on, and finally giving us the story of how Lucia became Lili. I knew Cande didn't steal her knowing she was wanted. But now we also know the doctor wasn't involved, but instead another nurse. I'm guessing she'll show up at some point to help reveal the truth.

It was really sweet of Adri and Guzman to take Lili out to cheer her up. I'm liking this Adri so much more than the gloom and doom version we had earlier. She's also being a good sister to Vicky.

I'm so glad that DVD is no more. Thanks Salsero. But what troubles will Kendra cause while living in the mansion. And if JA also returns? Fireworks just waiting to go off.

That's unburden herself on, not invites. What an odd change my tablet decided to make.

NovelaMaven - Thank you for the great recap. And the large font. :-D

Vivi - auto-correct is a pain sometimes, isn't it?!

The delivery doctor HAD to know and approve, on some level, about the baby switch. Otherwise, how is it that Anibal keeps paying him to disappear? Why wasn't Cris' dead baby's body in Luciás grave? (and, yipes, where is that poor body?)

Doris- The doc signed the death certificate and told the nurse to abandon the baby at the orphanage, per Anibal's orders. She on her own helped her friend Cande out by making a detour with the baby and giving her to Cande instead of abandoning her, since she knew what had just happened to Cris. So the doc and Anibal think Lucia either grew up in an orphanage or was adopted. In either case, neither has any idea what eventually came of the baby. But that nurse does. She's the missing link.

Oh NovelaMaven: After I read your lyrical recap, I sat for a moment, your lovely words echoing in my head. Pure joy.

I cannot thank you enough for your conversation translations - especially Candelaria's spoken confession, the Cande/Opalina discussion and exactly what happened at the hospital. You took such care and gave this so much detail, evident in every stellar word.

"Nelson walks in and sucks all the joy out of the room", "Adri wisely takes her leave, first asking to borrow a pint of Guzmán" and "rummages roughly through KendraLand" were sensational. All.

I owe Cande an apology. I expected the worst and am rather shamefaced. While not entirely comfortable with what happened, I understand why she gave Cris, the love of her life, the chance to experience the motherhood she so desperately wanted.

So Opalina knew the entire time.
Is there anything this woman does not see? I find her a comforting presence although can see where she would be extremely intimidating and frightening to anyone who had secrets to hide.

Vivi, loved Adri and Francisco's outing with Lili. And yes, so happy she is so loving and supportive to Vicky who is basically alone now that JA is gone.

Doris, excellent point about the doctor and yes, where is the poor baby who died?

It appears that Anibal, the master manipulator, will unknowingly be the catalyst to bring JA and Lili "home". Although, JA does not seem at all inclined to return. It will be interesting to see how this comes about.

Thanks again NovelaMaven!

Diana

Vivi: Our posts crossed.

"So the doc and Anibal think Lucia either grew up in an orphanage or was adopted. In either case, neither has any idea what eventually came of the baby. But that nurse does. She's the missing link."

Thank you!!!! Diana

Thanks Vivi, Doris and Diana, for the nice words!

I absolutely believe Candelaria's story -- who could lie to Opalina? -- but I'm not convinced the doctor knows nothing about the switch.

In a small rural hospital where two tragic stories are playing out on the same night, EVERYONE ON STAFF KNOWS EVERYTHING. Even if Doc Paulie Walnuts didn't attend to both women (though he might have -- OB-GYNS aren't exactly thick on the ground in places like Santa Rita), during the several hours he was in attendance, he learned both stories.

Nurse Abigail may have known more than we think.

Or she could have been Doc PW's pawn.

Either way, I'm not ready to say the doctor didn't know exactly where Adriana's baby was going.

PS: Doris, I thought this was the LARGE FONT NOVELA what with all the VERY LARGE FONT correspondence. My bad. :)

NM - I love the large font! Much easier on my very aged eyes.

NM- True. The doc might have put the nurse up to giving the baby to Cande and made her lie about the baby being unwanted.I just can't see that guy being thoughtful enough to want to ease Cris's pain. It's not like they actually switched the babies. It seems like he would have actually covered his tracks and used Cris's dead baby's corps if he were aware of Cris getting Adri's baby. Instead they had to use rocks as standin.

In the real world it wouldn't make sense that a small town doc wouldn't be aware of the two dramatic births happening the same day. But this is the AV universe. Logic doesn't always come into play.

NovelaMaven:

Thanks so much for this marvelous, wonderful recap.

I too liked the phrase "pint of Guzmi", lol.

They did look so good altogether, Adri, Lili and Guzmi and I also liked the phrase of Little Orchid among the orchids : )

I really liked that Salsa Dude went the extra step to Kendho's apartment and destroyed the orginal DVD, yeah! I love how he tossed her apartment while he was at it. But unfortunately now she will be staying at the Balvanera Manse. Boo Hiss!!!!!

I'm with Vivi, I too think Doc Pauly Walnuts and Anyballs have no idea what happened to the bebe. I too think the nurse Abigail is the key.

I really thought Cande was going to have to tell all to the Angel, but she side stepped that quite well. She is still keeping the secrets.

Adri and Vikki were very cute all the giggling and squeeing. I too like Adri this way, instead of doom and gloom Adri. I hope she stays light hearted now.

Loved your shout out to Balzac eating the dinner that was never eaten, lol.

FF is just I don't even have the words. He thinks he is the decider. I thought he would have an infarto when Nikki mentioned the Kendho was preggers and the bebe daddy wouldn't take responsibility, HA! I wonder how many times he will "visit" Kendho's room and hopefully he will be caught en flagrante with her and booted out of the manse.

NM thanks for this great recap. I am glad we finally know what happened with Liliana.

While I am happy Salsero got the DVD, he should have taken the jewelry so he can bring Kendra down. If she weren't a psychotic witch, her time in the mansion would just cause Nelson pure anxiety. However she'll mess with others I like and that will be bad.

JA would blow another gasket if he went back to work and found Kendra there.

Thanks, Mads! I agree that Nurse Abigail is the key to the mystery. After all, whatever Doc Paulie Walnuts may know, he is now in the Balvanera Witness Protection Plan and Adri's detective will never find him.

If Lili moves back to the mansion, she is likely to see Rolando courting Nikki. Wouldn't we all love to see the Boy unmasked? [Lili will be hurt though.]

Awesome recap NM!!! You have always been on my wavelength and tapped into the exact phrases I can't quite catch the nuance of. Like the convo between Anibal and Cande where she mentioned "Susio?!" etc. etc. and the one where Kendra said something good will come of this. Thank you so much for the clarification!

Also loved: "Cande is too tired to fight Opalina's snails." Hahahaha!

Is anyone else worried that destroying dvds in this day and age is the same as trashing your tv set because you don't like the show that's playing?! A computer had to make those dvds so can't Kendra just call her source and ask them to burn another set?

Lastly, I wish our gal Nikki would connect the dots and realize Kendra is a skanky, past her prime, underwear model who sleeps with married men. She is not the person to seek for moral advice. I find their relationship so odd. In real life, Marjorie is 33 (ancient by model standards) and Nikki is supposed to be 22. I guess that's why Kendra can bully her into following her orders but geez, Nikki, find some friends your own age! I'd even welcome back Nabila at this point!

Thanks for your delightful recap, NM! I'm glad the dinner didn't go entirely to waste!

Katy

Oh yeah, Karen, Kendra will definitely mess with the good guys. Let's just hope she doesn't kill anyone during her stay ... her very brief stay.

Doris, Diana, Vivi
I have a feeling that before this is over, we will see JA shedding cleansing tears at a tiny gravesite in Santa Rita, the place where his and Cristina's child is buried.

Katy! I've missed you! (Not that I'm taking attendance or anything.)

Wow, you're so right about the DVD. I didn't even think of that. Let's hope that Kendra is as dumb as I am about these things.

And let's face it -- Kendra may be a brilliant manipulator but she is often as dumb as ... well ... rocks. She STILL thinks Furry is a gold mine!

"I wish our gal Nikki would connect the dots and realize Kendra is a skanky, past her prime, underwear model who sleeps with married men. She is not the person to seek for moral advice."

Hear Hear! (I guess Nikki's affection for K goes back to the kidnapping when K engineered things so it appeared that she was risking her life for Nikki.)

NovelaMaven- I agree that Cande likely had her grandchild secretly buried in the cemetery in Santa Rita. It will be so sad when JA finds out. I'm already reaching for the tissues. *sniff*

NovelaMaven- Funny how Nikki puts 100% trust in Kendra because Kendra "risked" her life to defend Nikki during the kidnapping. Yet she distrusts Guzman who she saw jump in front of a bullet to save her life during the kidnapping. Shouldn't they both at least hold equal sway with her? Why do I ask silly quesions? LOL!

Vivi:
Nikki would say that Guzmán was just doing his job. But the real dynamic, I suspect, is that Kendra taps into Nikki's insecurities [Men will court you for your money] while the little gorilla isn't gaming her.

Even so, Nikki is starting to doubt ...

NM- ITA. That is indeed the key-- Kendra tapping into her insecurities. She's very good at it.

NovelaMaven - Great recap. Thanks for all the details.

Paulie Walnuts is too frightened not to know about the baby switch. Agree he doesn’t know where Lili wound up. Strange that the two names Lili and Lucia are so close.

Agree Candelaria would've given a decent burial to the baby.

Life goes on but I’ll admit I got queasy seeing Vickie and Adriana squealing over Vickie and JA being in love, without at least acknowledging that the man had a live wife until just a few days ago. Especially after they’ve been so hard about dad's amante.

Nikki's been insecure all her life, thinking her friends were using her for the Meta Imagen goodies. Yep, Kendra is a pro at tapping into that.

The doc has enough reasons to be scared because he signed a false death certificate, and disappeared a baby for money. He doesn't necessarily have to know about the Lili-Lucia switch to know he would go to jail if anyone found out/proved what he did.

Your usual fantastic work, NovelaMaven. I always enjoy the little Spanish nuggets that you add. You have a real gift for picking the perfect little phrases.

I loved Kendra Schadenfreude Ferreti. It's another example of your wonderful wordplay.

Vivi-(in answer to yesterday's question) School ends in late May, but I will be taking off for a month in Costa Rica the day after we finish. :-)

Sara

Sara- Have a great time in Costa Rica! I spent a month there refreshing my Spanish a few years ago.

great epi and recap :D

Niecie:

"Life goes on but I’ll admit I got queasy seeing Vickie and Adriana squealing over Vickie and JA being in love, without at least acknowledging that the man had a live wife until just a few days ago."

Yeah, me too. I wonder if those girlish giggles were a precursor to their learning that Cristina was their sister.

BTW, I also found Opalina's attitude somewhat cavalier. Arriaga has hardly had a chance to mourn and she is pushing him to Door Number 2.

Sara:
Your life is clearly a lot more interesting than mine! Costa Rica again -- that's great! When you come back, we'll probably still be wringing our virtual hands over these imaginary heroes and knaves. :)

Maria:
Thank you. I don't know if you have commented before but I'm glad you're here.

NovelaMaven, this is exquisite. Lots of very clever lines...my favorite:

"he doorbell rings. It is Opalina. In purple. Which is a color that is fraught with symbolism. Or not."

for some reason that cracks me up.

Which bring me to Opalina:

"She threw the snails to find out if Cris was having a girl or a boy.  Opalina could see from their pattern that the child was stillborn."

Really? And Opalina still doesn't creep you guys out? If this were Alborado the Inquisition would be keeping her entertained.

" The police know now that Cris was not killed because she crossed the street carelessly.

So can we cut Paula a little slack?

Carlos

Niece,

"Life goes on but I’ll admit I got queasy seeing Vickie and Adriana squealing over Vickie and JA being in love, without at least acknowledging that the man had a live wife until just a few days ago. Especially after they’ve been so hard about dad's amante."

Sipis.

Carlos

NovelaMaven:

"Door Number 2" - Love the way you put it. Opalina bugs me with that. JA can start anew with Vickie AND try to get justice for the hit-and-run of his wife. It's like Opalina thinks the man is capable of doing only one thing. Also, I was surprised she asked Cande if Cris knew about the baby switch. Seems like conchas would've told her ages ago that Cris knew no more about the switch than JA did.

Carlos:

Oh my. You may be my ideal reader. But let's not mention anything to the lovely Linda or Mr. Maven, ¿ok? ¿captas?

"If this were Alborado the Inquisition would be keeping her entertained."

Hah! But as Neice points out, Opalina and the Snails (a rock group that never made it out of the garage?) are not quite omniscient.

"So can we cut Paula a little slack?"

Only if she scrubs and face and takes a few lessons in stiff-upper-lipping from Candelaria, the Stoic Queen.

"It's like Opalina thinks the man is capable of doing only one thing."

Well...he never could concentrate on being a bodyguard AND finding the guy who set the fire that nearly killed Lili, so... :)

Wait till he finds out the two desgraciados are one and the same-- Espanto!

Adri and Vicky did mention Cris during all their giggling. But, Cris really wasn't the focus of the conversation-- Vicky coming clean about her real feelings was. Even with all that giddy girl talk, and Opalina pushing JA to go back to his destiny, err...Vicky, I still think it will be a long time before JA and Vicky actually give a relationship a try. Look how long it took them to admit their feelings to themselves and then each other.

Carlos- I won't cut Paula much slack until she stops being a selfish, sniveling whiner.

Vivi:

You and I must be like Mr Spock. We are on the same logical wavelength. I too think it will be a long time before Angel and Ms Vikki do anything about getting involved. Ms Vikki knows well Angel's grief over the dead Cris, and I don't think she will encroach on that. That would only happen if he makes a move : )

Opalina sure has a lot of secrets. Whose to say she doesn't know the real parents of Lili? She never reveals everything at once either. I like her. She just happens to show up at all the most "revealing" times. Hmmmm

One more thing about Opalina. She did tell Adri her child was alive, but I wonder if Opalina meant Lucia. She never really said, except her child was alive and she should talk to her Papa. That was all she told her.

Great recap and wonderful comments and entertaining comic relief (this is directed at Carlos).

The giggly girly stuff was great, but I think it was a little too early. I thought I heard, when Adri asks Vikki if Arriaga feels the same way about her, she answered she didn't know. (I'll have to go check, but not right now. I'm off to visit Dumbarton Oaks gardens and museum. The museum is noted for its pre-Columbian collections.)

NovelaMaven---Thank you for a very precise and detailed recap. Last night was a very important night so the detail is much appreciated.

Katy---connect the dots and realize
Kendra is a skanky, past her prime,
underware model had me laughing--what a line.

YES-YES-YES---Little Orchid among the orchids brought a big smile to my face and was the highlight of the night for me last night. The pictures were so sweet. The three look so good together.
the gringo

"when Adri asks Vikki if Arriaga feels the same way about her, she answered she didn't know."

You're right, Anita! Thank you. I changed the recap to reflect her answer. (Though she said it with a giggle and a smile as if she really meant "Yes") :)

Yes, Gringo. I felt that where Candelaria's memories were concerned, we needed to get the record straight.
And certainly, the snails needed to get their due. :D

Anita- That's one of my favorite hidden gems in DC. Have a great time. You can take pics among the flowers like Lili.

Why does Televisa conceal all the logos for products such as computer monitors, laptops, cars, and last night Adriana's red camera and camera strap? The camera had the word "Photo" emblazoned on the front of the camera where you would normally see Canon or Nikon (or some other camera brand). Even the camera neck strap had the word "Photo" on it. I guess Televisa doesn't believe in product placements.

GoBlueFan- Unless the company has made a specific deal with the network, they can't just show the label. They could be sued.

Can Televisa really be sued for showing products without a sponsor deal? I'd think the companies would love the free advertising, but they wouldn't want to do it because that would dilute their ability to sell product placement. I know we've seen recognizably branded clothes on telenovelas without it appearing to be a product placement deal.

re: product blur-outs, I always figured if the company wasn't going to pay Televisa something, they blurred it out. There have been telenovelas where the logo on the front grill of a main character's car gets blurred out.

OTH, product placement could be subtle, too, like recognizably branded clothes. Perhaps the placement fee is not as expensive.

Tostachos, anyone? LOL

Carlos, I am not going to cut Paula any slack. Ever. :-)

The snack foods (Tostitos, Tostachos) and Avon seem to have a lock on the telenovela product placements at Televisa.

Re orchid greenhouse, for gringo and anyone else who might be interested, it is located on the grounds of a botanical garden in D.F. in Chapultepec Park right across from the Anthropology Museum on Paseo de la Reforma. The garden [mostly cacti and trees] is a beautiful, peaceful place. But tho I've been there several times, I've never seen orchids like that! Guess they trucked them in.

Clara- They did say it was a special orchid show. I wonder if the show was already there in D.F., or if Televisa actually did truck the orchids in just for this show. I'm inclined to think they just took advantage of a show that was there. It is a beautiful location though. I'll put it on my list next time I'm in D.F.

Fantastic recap Maven!! You outdid yourself. Thank you!

I'm sure we all remember those grade school science class demonstrations of what happens when you throw baking soda into a glass of vinegar. Well, keep that image in mind folks because I'm pretty sure that's what's going to happen with la mala creada de Kendra living in the mansion. She and FF will get busted, but I wonder how many lives she'll wreck in the meantime.

Gotta love that Opalina. And by the way, she's not an exaggerated character. Lots of wonderful curanderas in Mexico like her. I've worked with some. De la verdad, she can read a hell of a lot more than snails.

Orchids, right Vivi, they did say it was a special show. Hope you go and enjoy, the Jardin Botanico is free and I always wonder why no one is there! It is a true urban oasis.

Loved your recap NovelaMaven. Superb :)

I'll cut Paula some slack........... When my Guzmancito does ;)

Adrianna, Liliana and Guzmancito "quality time" together was too cheesy for me, meaning bleh, Just performance. Sorry Gringo!

Finally glad we have the full story of the baby switch. Pobre Cristina! I suppose I can understand why Candelaria did what she did.

Finals on the rise everyone, bare with me on not commenting regularly until after.

Clara:
Thanks for the info on the Botanical Garden. I know the Anthropology Museum a little but have never been to the Garden. I'll have to put it on my list the next time I'm in the DF.

Dona Gringuita:
What a wonderful image -- Foul Kendra as a science fair volcano!

And I am glad to hear that Opalina has someone sitting at her table on the Patio. :)

Hahaha. Fair enough. Please study hard -- don't let our imaginary friends distract you (or at least, not too often) from your real world exams. Suerte!

Hey everyone, Thanks for all the great comments and kind words today.

Thank you NovelaMaven!!!
