Amores Verdaderos #111 Wed 4/17/13 Cristina says goodbye

La Cruz Roja
"I feel so guilty," begins Paula tearfully.  But Candelaria comforts her and tells her not to cry, not to torture herself.  Cristina is strong and she will fight for her life.

Beatriz looks on silently.

The Balvanera Mansion
Victoria doesn't want the others, even Adriana, to know about Cris tonight, she tells Tomasina.  Just then, she receives a text from Salsero: Cris survived the surgery but her prognosis is guarded (reservado).

La Cruz Roja
Arriaga weeps as he watches his wife through the glass.  She is unconscious.  Her face and arms are covered with bruises and fresh bloody scrapes.  The monitors beep rhythmically.  He tells her how much he loves her and begs her not to leave him.

The following morning

The doctor announces that Cristina is conscious now and wants to see her family.  Her condition is very grave.  The doctor then leads Liliana to her mother's bedside.  Candelaria tells José Ángel to have faith.

The Balvanera Mansion
Nelson asks sarcastically is Victoria had trouble sleeping because Arriaga is gone.  He supposes that she will take on Salsero as her bodyguard now.  No, she prefers Zambrano.  "That good for nothing?" sniffs Nelson.  Zambrano did nothing wrong, Victoria counters.  She put herself in harm's way.

Salsero calls Kendra and she denies any involvement in Cristina's "accident."

Victoria decides to accompany Salsero to the hospital.

La Cruz Roja
The First Goodbye
Cristina smiles at her daughter.  Lili tells Cris she's going to recover very soon.  Cristina knows better.  "I will always take care of you," she tell Lili.  "Always."  She adores her -- the monitors beep relentless -- Lili is the most precious gift life has given her.

The Balvanera Mansion
Tomasina instructs Guzmán to be discreet about Cris's condition.  Jean Marie is bursting to share his happiness with them -- he is in love! -- but Tomi dismisses him snippily.  He is lucky "no tomo cinta canela y sello la boca." (I don't seal your mouth shut with packing tape)

La Cruz Roja
The Second Goodbye
It is Candelaria's turn to see Cristina.  "God arranged it so you would be with me," Cristina tells her mother.  Candelaria is inconsolable at the thought of losing her beloved child.  As she was with Lili, it is once again Cris who is the strong one here.  She urges her mother not to cry -- but she can't die without knowing one thing: Is Aníbal Balvanera her father?

The Balvanera Mansion
"A daughter out of wedlock?" scoffs Aníbal to his old friend Antonio.  "That bastard only exists in Paula's resentful imagination."

La Cruz Roja
"Yes, your father is Aníbal Balvanera," confirms Candelaria sadly.  She begs her daughter's forgiveness for concealing what she thought would be a painful truth.  She was ashamed.  He was a married man who had no room in his life for them.  Cris thinks Aníbal would have accepted her:
"Si don Aníbal se hubiera enterado de mi existencia, me hubiera reconocido."
(If he had known of my existence, he would have recognized me [as his daughter].)

No, says Candelaria.  A while back when she was ill and thought she might be dying, she wrote to Aníbal and told him she had a daughter.  His reply was cold and cutting: Victoria and Adriana were his only legitimate daughters.  "Forgive me for causing you this pain," says Candelaria miserably.  Cristina reassures her that there is nothing to forgive; she just wanted to know the truth.  And for her mother she feels only gratitude for giving her life and filling that life with love.  Candelaria blesses her daughter one final time.

José Ángel waits with Opalina and Lili.  Victoria arrives with Salsero, surveys the scene, and prudently heads for the chapel.  Paula comes in and JA tells her Cris is in very bad shape.

Now Candelaria returns to the waiting room, so burdened with grief she can barely walk.  Cris wants to see JA, she tells him.

When JA is gone, Paula approaches Candelaria.  Candelaria tells her bleakly: "There are no words to express what a mother feels watching her child die and being unable to do anything about it."

When Salsero asks about Cris, Candelaria tells him there is little hope -- her kidneys have been destroyed.

Paula says a silent prayer: "God, please save her.  Don't leave me with this guilt."

In the chapel, Victoria prays for Cristina's recovery.

The Third Goodbye
When JA approaches Cristina's bed, her eyes open wide.  "Mi alma," she says gently.  JA's smile is almost sheepish.  He was afraid she'd be mad at him and not want to talk to him.  Cris returns his smile: she loves him, he is the best husband in the world.  JA leans close and tells her he loves her too.  He is sure she will get better and they'll re-experience all the beautiful things they have lived together.  And Lili had better hurry up and give them some grandchildren so they can spoil them.  (Here his voice breaks and they are both crying now.)  This marriage will last 50 years -- or more ...  She is the best wife in the world ... He will make up for all the time he should have devoted to her ... He begs forgiveness for not listening to her needs ...

Cris again tells him she loves him and asks forgiveness for not taking care of herself.  But she is leaving, fully loving him.  With him at her side, she is the happiest woman on earth.  He is everything to her.  Their love is infinite and eternal.

JA begs her not to go -- he needs her and so does Lili.  She must go, she tells him, but he'll see her in the morning light, in the wind, in the stars at night.  And Lili will be fine with him.   But he has to promise her one thing: "No quiero que estés solo, por favor." (I don't want you to be alone, please.)

"Hold me," says Cristina.  She sits up and they embrace.  She dies in JA's arms, her head resting on his shoulder; and her sad bruised arms which held him tight now fall away from him, lifeless.

NO NO NO NO ... cries José Ángel.  The monitors scream quietly in the background.

The Balvanera Mansion
Aníbal and Antonio continue their conversation.  Aníbal worries about Victoria's marriage.  And even if Adriana is living in the house, she is holding back.  "What about that supposed third daughter of yours" persists Antonio.  "How old would she be now?"  Aníbal considers the question: the only woman with whom he might have had a child was Candelaria (He took "precautions" with the others.)  And Candelaria is dead!  Antonio points out that she could have had a child and never told him about it; maybe she left him because she was pregnant.  Aníbal reminds Antonio that Detective Pastrano's report said nothing about a child.  Case closed.

La Cruz Roja
Salsero finds Victoria in the chapel and tells her that Cristina has just died.

JA returns to the waiting room.  He looks solemnly at Opalina and neither one speaks.  Then he turns to Lili and tells her that her mother is gone. (Tu mamá ya no está con nosotros ... se nos fue .. se nos fue para siempre.")  Candelaria clutches her rosary and repeats, as if in shock: It can't be, my little girl, no, she isn't gone ... JA sits beside her, a protective arm around her shoulders.  Lili kneels on the other side.  Candelaria's face is haunted.

Paula stands apart and sobs.

The Balvanera Mansion
Nelson boasts to Aníbal that he has fired Arriaga -- he was always sniffing around after Victoria.  Aníbal is outraged.  He won't permit Nelson to slander his daughter!  She was never unfaithful but he is still carrying on with his lover!

Nelson is surprised but recovers rapidly.  He has a very interesting video to play for his suegro, one that will show how well Victoria gets along with her bodyguard ...

Just then, Victoria bursts in:  "There's been a tragedy!  Arriaga's wife has died!"

Nighttime

The Funeral Home
Candelaria, overcome with grief, leans over the steel casket.

Lili seeks solace in her father's arms and then kneels at the foot of the casket.  JA tells her that her mother isn't there -- she is with God.

"I don't know how you found out about Aníbal," Candelaria says to Cristina's coffin.  "Why did you have to die with the pain of that knowledge?"  Candelaria remembers the harsh reply she received to her letter and laments:
"Cristina, tú no merecías que tu padre, aun sin conocerte, te repudiara, ¡no lo merecías!"
(Cristina, you didn't deserve your father's rejecting you!  He never even knew you!  You didn't deserve that!)

Candelaria throws herself on the casket.

Avances:  Candelaria confronts Aníbal with the truth.

I had to re-enter the recap because the formatting was screwed up. I copied and pasted a couple of comments from last night (when the recap goes, so do the comments, alas). Sorry. I guess there is more than one "Inepto" running around loose.

Thanks so much for this superb recap. You captured everything! I had a box of tissues I went through for this episode. I kept averting my eyes on some parts, it was just so hard to take. This must have been hard for you to recap.

I am glad Ms Vikki was praying for Cris, and stayed away from the Angel. She did the right thing.

It was so sad to see Candelaria, Lili and the Angel with Cris saying goodbye. Especially the Angel, and the looks in the Angel and Cris' eyes, that was the most painful part. They did not want to part from each other. I like what Cris said though, about the morning light, the sky, etc. That was a beautiful thing to say. And I am glad Candleria was able to tell Cris about Anyballs being her Papa before she died. I will miss Cris' spunk.

Yay! We had the Godfather for this epi. I think that Anyballs should have listened to the Godfather. But then again there is that "faked" report.

FF needs. to. go. I can't stand him. He and Kendho so deserve each other.

The most gut wrenching scene was poor Candelaria hugging Cris' coffin and kissing it, lamenting her lost daughter and thinking about that letter Anyballs "sent" her. That was truly heartbreaking.

I can't wait for tomorrow when Anyballs and Candelaria get a look at each other, and Anyballs sees that Cande is alive!

Diana:

I read your message and tried to fix things. Please let me know if this works. Thanks, amiga!

NovelaMaven: I stoically shed no tears last night. I cried when I read your recap. You set the tone "The monitors beep rhythmically" perfectly and recanted the sad events with careful respect, giving dignified homage to Cristina. An excellent although heartbreaking summary. Gracias.

I am so happy that Cris and JA declared their love and committment before the end. Heart wrenching scenes.

A few comments amist the grief.

Whatever was Vicky thinking going to the hospital? At least she had the good grace and common sense to leave before anyone saw her.

I keep feeling sorry for Paula and am rather disgusted with myself. "
Paula says a silent prayer: "God, please save her. Don't leave me with this guilt." Yes. Please. Don't let Paula feel any guilt for this tragedy she herself wrought. Blech.

"Forgive me for causing you this pain," says Candelaria miserably. Candelaria, whatever compeled you to tell Cris her father rejected her? Whatever purpose could that have served? Still shaking my head in disbelief.

"A daughter out of wedlock?" scoffs Aníbal to his old friend Antonio. "That bastard only exists in Paula's resentful imagination." What a hateful, spiteful man. Let's see how he feels once he learns the truth which looks like tonight.

Bea was gazing quizically at Cande and Paula. I'm wondering if she is suspecting Paula may have had a hand in this.

It will be interesting to see JA and Vicky's conversation tonight. From the previews Iheard him say "at this moment" and then lost the rest. I suspect they will keep their distance for some time.

Big hugs to NovelaMaven, Aribeth, Madelaine and any other AV family who's written in thus far (I had problems getting on today too).

Thanks Novela Maven. It was lovely.

Diana

NovelaMaven - Thank you for the recap. This was a very difficult episode and I was crying over it. (Ana Martin can move me to tears every time she loses a child in a telenovela)
What a beautiful scene between JA and Cristina. I really wanted her to survive.
All the scenes were very realistic, not contrived or OTT as are most telenovela hospital scenes. The whole episode was well done, though very, very sad.

Oh, and FWIW, I had trouble accessing the page to post a comment, but it finally came through. Dont' know if that had anything to do with NM's difficulties noted above.

NovelaMaven - Excellent recap of such a sad episode.

I'm not normally a crier, but I cried last night. So glad JA and Cris got a chance to say goodbye.

Madelaine - ITA "I will miss Cris' spunk."

Looks like Bea may unravel the truth from her mother.

Diana:

I am so glad you are able to read the recap now. Again, my apologies for the goof-up. And thank you so much for your generous words.

Why did Candelaria tell Cristina her father rejected her? I suppose because she felt she was in a moment of absolute truth. NO MORE LIES. Of course the irony is that the TRUTH is a LIE. Not Candelaria's, of course, but Paula's.

Mads:

I have to admit it -- this was a hard one to write (formatting issues aside). I thought the actors were at their best and the writing was also top-notch.

Of course the medical stuff made no sense at all. Who cares? The emotions felt real and resonated with most, if not all, of us.

So glad you enjoyed the recap.

Aribeth:
Yeah. Good luck with that. :)

Doris:

Yes, your posting problems were probably related to the issues Diana was having. Sorry.

Neicie:

The camera does keep finding Beatriz watching Paula. It's going to be interesting to find out what she is thinking. It's a tricky business though. Yesterday I was sure that Candelaria was shooting daggers at Paula but then she approached her and thanked her for being such a good friend to her daughter. They DO play with us ...

Thanks NovelaMaven! What a wonderful episode this was - I couldn't believe how well they did it considering the usual silliness. A very fitting tribute to a character.

And I can't wait for tonight! I'm so glad they aren't delaying the Aníbal-Cande confrontation. Wow - is Aníbal going to realize someone has been interfering big time!

NovelaMaven, this is such an awesome recap of our most disturbing episode so far.

I think that we're all relieved that Candi didn't feel the need to unburden her conscience over the infant swap.

Let me gently remind everyone that neither Paula, Aníbal, nor Candeleria had any part in Cristina's death. Kendra ordered it and Espanto carried it out.

I'm certain that Aníbal will be devastated, not to mention incredibly angry when he finds out about his daughter and her death.

I'm also so glad that Vikki elected to stand back. My heart sank when she insisted on going to the hospital.

Carlos

Doris:

So with you about Ana Martin. I wish I had known Caray Caray existed back when DA had it's first run. I watched it in late night when they repeated it. I would have been burning up the comment board. She moves me to tears every time. She is just so real.

I like the way the writers wrote Cris' demise, all the goodbyes, so heart wrenching. I remember from DA when Gaviota had her accident in London and the aftermath. Cris' scenes remind me of those.

Audrey:

I agree. It WAS a wonderful episode, very different from what we've seen so far. I think that when they do silly, they are hilarious. But last night they showed us what they -- the writers, the actors, the directors -- can do with tragedy. Quite impressive.

Carlos:

I'm glad you reminded us that only Kendra and Espanto are responsible for Cristina's death. I wonder how long it will take for someone other than Salsero to realize it was murder ...

I would also like to remind everyone that the deception about Candelaria's letter started when Gilda intercepted it from Anibal's mail and brought it to Paula. She needs a big time anvil!

Teresita

I cried and cried.

Thank you NovelaMaven---You were right, Cris had spunk.

I am ANGRY and so SAD. It's only a movie, only a movie, only a movie.
Why do the writers have to write them and why do I have to watch them? I keep asking myself. I managed to get through the episode last night but had a lot of trouble with the recap and comments this morning.

I know that many of you were not in Cris's corner but I was from the beginning. JA and Cris were so sweet together in their little house on the prairie. It's going to take me a long time to get over Crise's death. Kendra, I hope that you pay dearly for this.

I don't know if I will ever be able to accept a JA-Vicki love affair. No matter how sweet the writer's make it, it will ring hollow for me. I will always se flashbacks of Cris in my mind.

Kendra, I hope that the anvil that has your name on it makes you suffer for a while so that you will have time to think about all of the evil and hurt that you have caused.

And Nelson just makes me sick, I can't hardly look at him anymore.

I was hoping that JA would have noticed that the medical device clip that was on Cris's finger had come off and that he would put it back on and thus keep her alive.

Dr. Carlos---would that have helped?
the gringo

Thank you NM for taking one for the team and covering this episode. You did a fantastic job. It was a very tough episode.

I didn't cry, but was very somber during the whole thing. It's tough to take the death of a loved one, even seeing it on TV with actors. These actors were so darn good!

So glad that Chris's demise was written so that she could say "good bye" to everyone, including her mom. Ordinarily since her mom lived far away, a goodbye to her wouldn't have been in the cards. So it was nice that her mom was there. Ana Martin is awesome.

I knew, I KNEW that Chris would somehow allude to Big Angel's future, aka remarrying. I KNEW it! Otherwise the guilt will keep him alone for a long, long, VERY long time. It was a merciful thing she did, plus it'll move the storyline along to the inevitable (Angel + Miss Vicki). I hope that there will be a reasonably long mourning period for both Big Angel and Lili, and I think that's only right. Maybe they'll do a "meses después" so we don't have two dozen episodes of delay.

I really did "feel" that Angel loved Chris and the last thing on his mind was Vicki. I believe that had Chris survived, Big Angel would have focused on her and they would have had a good marriage from then on. Maybe a bit different than it was before, but it would have been okay. We knew that Big Angel was already set on trying to get his marriage back on track and it's good that he KNOWS he really meant to do that, before Chris's accident. Oh, poor Big Angel. Poor Lili. Poor Candelaria!

This next episode is going to be a corker! I can hardly wait for the Candy/Anibal showdown!!!

Hi everyone, thanks Novela for recapping a really sad episode. Christina had grown on me. she was annoying sometimes but she was no fool. Her relationship with Anibal was great. She was probably right, had he discovered the truth, he would have accepted her. Very sad indeed. I sure hope they don't wait till the very final episode to get Kenho. That woman has no soul. Thanks again Novela.

Olive

NovelaMaven- Wonderful job with a very tough episode. I also didn't cry, but was pleasantly surprised that these usually over the top director/writers used such restraint in Cris's final scenes. She left with dignity, and that's a very good thing. It made up for the wailing, wandering the city, and running mascara of the episodes before.

One obstacle down for JA and Vicky to eventually get together. Now they just have to get past their guilt and the (sure to come) objections of their daughters.

I will be interested to see how Nikki reacts to the news that Lili's mother has died. I want to see some glimmer of human kindness in her, and not just towards a horse or someone she loves (like Guzman). How she treats Lili will say a lot about her.

But I really can't wait to see Anibal's reacting to Cande. I'm surprised they didn't show him having a heart attack in the previews. Cande alive, and the news that he had another daughter, she was Cris, and now she's dead. That's a lot for the bastard to take.

Thank you, NovelaMaven!

It's a sad, sad, sad week. But the actors and the writers (and every cast member) did a great job with these episodes.

I'm working on the next episode, it's also very good.

How do some of you know what is in the next episode (aside from the very short episode preview)? Have you downloaded and watched advance chapters?

Thanks so much NM for a great recap of a sad episode. I had to watch it in distraction mode as I didn't want to cry.

ITA w/all the comments about how the episode was so well done particularly in light of how things are usually a bit OTT.

Based on what Teresita said, the cutting response that Cande believes was Anibal was Paula, right? If so, things aren't looking good for her.

Personally Kendra needs to have something very bad happen to her. She's been awful but her latest attempted murder/murder spree is too much.

Gobluefan:

Since I'm European, I have to watch the show on streaming sites. (And later I buy the DVD version. And I also download the episodes.) Fortunately every single episode that aired in Mexico is available online. I highly doubt that any of these sites have the permission of Televisa, but unlike Telemundo, Televisa doesn't really care about these things. They've already got their money from the Mexican screening and from selling the show to other countries.

GoBlue- I only saw the advances we all saw at the end of the episode with Cande confronting Anibal. Aribeth in Europe has already seen this tn, but she keeps her comments spoiler-free for us folks in the U.S.

Karen- Yes. This is only the beginning of the reprecussions for Paula. She not only intercepted the letter from Cande to Anibal, but also had the detective lie to Anibal and say that Cande died childless, AND sent a letter to Cande pretending to be Anibal saying he did not care about his other child and only considered Vicky and Adri his kids. She may not have killed Cris, but she DOES have a lot to feel guilty about.

And frankly, with the way Cris reacted to the news, it's actually very likely that she would have gotten hit by a car since she was so dazed and upset at the news. That's probably what Paula thinks happened, and I don't mind one bit that she thinks she's at fault. She very well could have been. It was Cris's mother's job to tell her about her father, not Paula's.

When Anibal finds out Paula's role in this mess, watch out!

Gringo - Agree with everything you said. I'll have to see if I can get into the JA-Vickie couple, when it happens. Cris will always be in the back of my mind. But Cris loved JA, she wants him to go on and be happy again. That's why she made a point of telling him not to stay alone.

Agreed, Teresita. Gilda is covered with mud too. Her taste for palace intrigue has had tragic consequences -- not, as Carlos pointed out -- Cris's death; but rather her dying thinking that her father had refused to acknowledge her.

Janet Strausser, you have lots of company!

Gringo, I was thinking of you as I watched and as I was writing. I knew how upset you would be. BTW It was Mads who referred to Cris's "spunk."

Elvira, I too think the fact that Cris gave JA permission to find a new love is going to be crucial. But yes, he needs time to grieve. It would be unseemly for him and Victoria to appear to be dancing on Cristina's grave. And yes, "meses despues" would be nice.

Olive, I think you're right about Aníbal accepting Cris as his daughter. There was definitely a bond between them -- in retrospect, the old "llamado de la sangre."

Vivi:

I think you are right about Cris being hit by a car. I too hope Pau feels guilty, it is her fault that Cris was in the emotional state she was in. For the actual murder of Cris I blame Kendho and Espanto. I hate both of them with a passion for what they have done.

Gringo:

I agree with you about the FF, I too can't stand to look at him. What a dog that man is, oh sorry, snake, I love dogs too much to compare him to a dog :)

Vivi,
Nice point about watching for Nikki's reaction to the death of Lili's mother. That will show us a lot about who she (Nikki) really is.

Thank you for clearing up the questions about the intercepted letter and the fake reply.

Aribeth,
It has been a sad week. But the previous episode was crazy and OTT. This was simply tragic. Cris became Everywoman -- someone's daughter, someone's mother, someone's wife, someone's friend. I think that's why her death resonated so strongly with all of us, even those of us who weren't great fans. And after all, being annoying is hardly a capital offense.

Gobluefan,
To add to Vivi's answer, there are websites that come and go where people find episodes of the show. At the moment, I don't know of any. [If I did, I wouldn't name the site here because Univisión would shut it down immediately.] Sites available in Europe aren't necessarily available to US viewers.

Karen,
Yes, Kendra is earned her Antagonista badge, BSC division. I imagine she will be around to the bitter end because she is the very nexus of evil, the snake in the garden.

Paula will pay big time with Anibal unless of course he drops dead when he hears the news that the Christina also was his daughter. He knows he is responsible for switching the baby his daughter Adriana had to Christina, his other daughter (unknown to him at the time)! Either way he has another grandchild, Lili -- perhaps a threat to the horrid Nikki. Talk about the call of the blood.

Gringo, I know you loved Cris and are devastated. She left the earth knowing she had the love of those she treasured most. I hope that is of some consolation.

The acting was superb as so many have noted.

Carlos, you are right in that Paula did not kill Cris. However, Paula's actions make her culpable in Cris' death. Madelaines's comment was spot on: "it is her (Paula's)fault that Cris was in the emotional state she was in". Yes it was and in my eyes, Paula was a cog that set the wheel in motion.

Elvira, Niecie and NovelaMaven, thanks for noting Cris mentioned JA shouldn't be alone. Could anyone expand on their conversation for me?

Not a dry eye in the house today.

Diana

NovMav - I missed all the formatting and posting mess. Glad it's straightened out. We need to grieve before tonight's MUST SEE TV. You did us a great service by not becoming too emotional yourself and guiding us through this very difficult episode. We didn't really want to lose Cris, but had she survived, that would have been the end of the story--they would have retreated to their new Little House on the Prairie (gringo's reference).

BTW--the little clip on Cris' finger was probably monitoring blood pressure or heart beats. I'm surprised the crash cart and a posse of doctors didn't show up when Cris expired. The beeping would have alerted the ICU nursing station. Even if there were a do not resucitate order, they should have responded.

I'm glad they didn't stretch this out for another episode, though. This was enough sadness for one tn of a character we all had such contrarian feelings about.

KenHo had the biggest hand in messing with Cris' head by her "make-over" and urging her to separate from Big A. She deserves the biggest anvil for this as well as several big ones for her attempted murders and kidnappings, gold-digging and betrayals. But she can take FF with her for all I care--actually that would be a good punishment for her: to service FF all the days of her life.

Elvira said everything I wanted to say in her comment.

Diana - On Cris and JA's conversation, Cris said she wanted him to promise that he wouldn't be alone, that she wanted him to be happy. He said don't ask him that. He never answered her on this. Also in the conversation, JA said they'd be together for years to come and he'd make up for the time he didn't give her. They spoke of becoming grandparents. Cris asked for forgivenes for her jealousy, admitted it wasn't the best way to show her love.

Diana,
The gist of the conversation is what I wrote in the recap. Cris tells JA that she doesn't want him to be alone when she is gone. He doesn't want to hear about it. She stops his protests by asking him to embrace her. He does. For the last time.

Anita,
I think it was a pulse oximeter on Cris's finger, a gizmo to measure blood oxygen.

Did you think I was unemotional? I thought I was a mess and in great danger of being maudlin. Huh.

Yes, one episode was just the right amount. (The funeral is going to be painful -- and dramatic -- enough. )

NM, great job. if i had a tough ep to recap, you had it even worse. but i have to agree, Monica Sanchez (Cris) did a great job, just as Ana Martin (I have admired her since her young leading lady days in Muchacha de Barrio with Humberto Zurita, there they both lifted each other even higher with incredible chemistry [think a story similar to 1st half of Maria la del Barrio]).
Incredibly emotional episode... i haven't even watched it but the recap is getting me emotionally ready for it.

Thanks everyone for your comments about Cris. I know it's just a movie--just a movie but the acting is so good and so real that they just draw you in as if you are a part of everything that is happening. I don't know how I got through last night but had a lot of trouble this morning. My mind keeps flashing to the picture in the opening where Cris, JA and Lili
are standing by their little country home in sweet bliss, together as a family--that scene/portrayal is very touching. I
am going to have to get my mind away from last night or I will not be able to watch tonight.
the gringo

Paula is going to be in big trouble if/when Candelaria has that letter of rejection that Paula sent and signed with Anibal's name, and shows it to old Anibal. The camera showed it to us last night, so it may still be in Cande's pocket.

Maybe Paula will "take a bullet" from Leo to protect Bea's life, and that will be her only form of redemption. Otherwise, I do not see any other hope for her character.

Thanks Niecie and NovelaMaven. I think I was an emotional zombie last night, staring at JA and Cris during her deathbed scene. I could not/did not concentrate on a word they were saying so sincerly appreciate your answering my question as to what was said.

Diana

Has anyone noticed that whenever Nelson is stressed, he runs to get a tumbler, then fill it with ice cubes and whiskey. Perhaps the heavy drinking is why his eyes are always red. I am surprised he is not an alcoholic!

First just to say I really enjoyed this recap NovelaMaven and though it was emotional for me to read it as it was for me to watch it I thank you.

I'm going to be honest I am going to say that this has been the only episode that had me in tears, especially with Arriaga and Cristina. I felt the emotions and Arriaga's crying for me this time was the real deal and I am glad this scene was so well put together with the goodbyes. I'm really ready for these grieving scenes to past, but I feel the worst has passed. I really hate that this had to be Cristina's fate just for Victoria and Arriaga to be together, she deserved so much more especially after all the BS and lies. My opinion!

Oh and I hope Kendra's fate is a horrific one.

We need some Baileys to sip on as we hold a little wake and share our favorite memories of Cris. Do you all remember the first time we saw her with her face covered with that chalky masque. I thought that the actress was such good sport with that. And the best love scenes so far have been between her and José Ángel.

Well of course there was that one near score between Nikki and Frankie before the lights came back on. And then some may prefer Kendra and Nelson or Kendra and Salsero.

Carlos- Any intimate scenes Kendra had with either Nelson or Salsero I found distasteful and unattractive.

Nikki y Guzmancito scene at the hacienda was HOTT. I'd like to add that I think Nikki is a virgin because she pretends a lot with her confidence and hides all her true emotions, why not her sexual status.. Case closed.

Arriaga and Cristina's were very romantic and felt real.

I was never really a fan of Cristina, but before I knew it, that her end was coming she actually started to grow on me maybe because she had toned her personality down a lot, or because of the sympathy I felt for her, either way I grew to like her.

Hi All,

I was actually surprised at the death of Cristina. I thought that Victoria coming to The Red Cross was going to be a necessity. The doctor said Cristina's kidneys were shot and I said to my son - that's how they will save her!!!

Who can give a kidney more easily than a sister - even a half sister!

I WAS expecting that CRASH cart and doctors and nurses asking the family for blood or a kidney and the news that Cristina was a Balvanera and there WAS a Balvanera in the building.

Then Victoria would learn of this and stunningly offer a kidney.

I told my son that would make a very interesting future for all of them.

Then total let-down.

Booo.

Oh well. Keepin' on - keepin' on.

Peace to all, Tiempe.

Victoria, my thoughts on whether Nikki is a virgin or not have changed several times. When we first met her I simply assumed that she was probably sexually active. Then we quickly got to know her better and met her creepy boyfriends and I was quite certain that she is a virgin.

Then she had a very intimate chat with Frankie in which she disclosed that of all her suitors she had only trusted and felt comfortable with one... yep... Roy. At that point I figured that she had probably at some point had been close enough to Roy to have been intimate.

Now, after the way she pushed an insistent Roy away... I'm seeing a virgin Nikki again.

As for how she will react to learning of Cris' death... I'm expecting to see a very sympathetic sensitive side of Nikki... especially with super Superman but also with Lili.

This novela is much more about romance than sexuality. The Arriagas were the only ones with a joyful physical relationship. All the other couplings have been tawdry or violent or predatory.

Right now the only happy couple we have are Jean Marie and Estéfano. I doubt we'll be following them to the bedroom any time soon.

But I really liked it when Frankie carried Adriana's rocks.

The only other committed relationship is Bea and Salsero, and they are taking things slow until she is divorced.
