By popular request: a new section for news about upcoming novelas

Hello friends,

If you look in the sidebar you'll find a new category, "Las Proximas." This section is for news about shows which are coming (or probably coming, or maybe coming) to Univision and Telemundo. This has been requested so I've added it.

NO SPOILERS still holds - initial plot outline ok, news about personajes etc, but no spoilers. I am going to depend on JOAN to police this, since she spearheaded the movement.

Thanks all,
Jane

Great idea! Thanks!

Excellent. I think this should also announce reruns for the benefit of anyone interested.

Love this!! Thanks so much for setting up.

I too am delighted. Muchísimas gracias, Jane/Chapel Hill Fiddler/Melinama!! In case anyone is wondering who in the world "Joan" is (the person who has been appointed to keep an eye on the new section), it's me, Juanita. (I keep hoping that if I use a Spanish name, my Spanish abilities will increase. :-))

I hope all those on CarayCaray who learn about forthcoming telenovelas or re-runs of older ones will post that information in this new section. And, as Melinama has said, please DO NOT include spoilers.

Cool! Thanks!

Sara

Thanks Juanita and Jane!

Exciting news! Thank you!

I've just read that Salvador Mejia has a new telenovela that will debut on May 13. It's called "La Tempestad" and will star William Levy and Ximena Navarrete. The announcement was in Spanish, and it says that the novela will be scheduled in "el horario estalar del Canal de las Estrellas." I'm not sure what that refers to. The announcement also talks about the telenovela's theme song, which will be sung by Alejandro Fernández and Christina Aguilera.

The announcement in Spanish can be found here

Salvador Mejia's new telenovela is called La Tempestad and will star William Levy and Ximena Navarrete. It stars May 13th at 9:15pm in Mexico on El Canal De Las Estrellas replacing Amores Verdaderos. Ivan Sanchez, Laura Carmine, Cesar Evora, Daniela Romo, Manuel Ojeda, Sergio Reynoso, Lucero Lander, Maria Sorte, Arturo Carmona, and Latin Lover are part of the cast along with others. The telenovela is being directed by Monica Miguel.

The first promo for La Tempestad has already aired in Mexico.

Vivir a Destiempo, starring Edith Gonzalez, began airing yesterday on Azteca América, at 6 pm ET.

I recorded it but haven't had time to watch more than half of it yet. The acting is excellent, and the story seems very realistic and lacking in schmaltz.

Karamy

Thanks so much Melinama and Juanita. Now we can know what is coming up : )

Karamy- This is what We Love Soaps says about Vivir a Destiempo:

VIVIR A DESTIEMPO
There is a third telenovela premiere scheduled for Monday, April 15, as VIVIR A DESTIEMPO debuts on Azteca America at 6 p.m. ET. It is always with some trepidation that the audience must embark on viewing a telenovela on Azteca America given the network’s haste to slice-and-dice a telenovela’s run – the previous occupier of this timeslot, LA OTRA CARA DEL ALMA, was butchered, having its six month run condensed to a ludicrous six weeks.

Produced by Fides Velasco and written by Eric Vonn (CIELO ROJO) from an original story, VIVIR A DESTIEMPO stars Edith González (DOÑA BÁRBARA; CIELO ROJO) as Paula Duarte, a housewife in a nightmarish marriage to a selfish and unfaithful man played by Humberto Zurita (LA REINA DEL SUR). Paula attempts to regain a love she lost in her youth when Alejandro, played by Ramiro Fumazoni, whom she was engaged to years ago, reenters her life.

VIVIR A DESTIEMPO also stars Andrea Noli (AMOR CAUTIVO), Marta Verduzco, Juan Manuel Bernal, and Verónica Merchant.

Thanks for posting this Melinama and Juanita for doing this.

All I can say is: thank you, thank you, thank you.

Nanette

This is a great idea. Juanita--best of luck with this. It's something really useful.

The following did not originate with me but came from Caray. We might as well put it here and keep upcoming news in one place:

MENTIR PARA VIVIR
Will come after Que Bonito Amor and before Aroma de Lobos. Don’t know anything about it. Said to have many of our favorite actors. Produced by Rosy Ocampo and written by Maria Zarattini (Fuerza)—with David Zepeda, Diego Olivera, Altair Jarabo, and Fabian Robles.

AROMA DE LOBOS
Carlos Moreno Laguillo, the producer, is working on it; a remake of Imperio de Cristal. Two of the cast are Cristian de la Fuente & Leticia Calderon (for the end of 2013).

*If* I have time, I'd like to do a filmography listing of producers and their more recent telenovelas, maybe the last 5-10 years' worth. It would free up some space in Vivi's telenovela brain. When I hear Rosy Ocampo, I start to wonder, what else did she do that I've seen....(straight from Wikipedia, I apologize, but it'll be a quick overview of all our popular producers in one place).

Rosy Ocampo - Productora ejecutiva 2003-2012
Por ella soy Eva (2012)
La fuerza del destino (2011)
Camaleones (2009)
Las tontas no van al cielo (2008)
Amor sin maquillaje (2007)
La fea más bella (2006/07)
Misión S.O.S (2004)
Alegrijes y rebujos (2003/04)

Anita, thanks for this info. And, if you have the time, I think a filmography would be a terrific resource!

UniMás is running promos for SIN TETAS NO HAY PARAISO, the 2006 Colombian original starring the excellent Maria Adelaida Puerta (EL CAPO; LA MARIPOSA). It's a short one, only about 20 episodes long. It will take the 10 p.m. ET slot when ROSARIO TIJERAS ends.

Also, the morning line up on UniMás is about to shift over with two oft-repeated novelas: CAMILA from 1998 started this Monday - starring Bibi Gaytan, Eduardo Capetello and Adamari Lopez; and starting soon (believe April 29) is AMIGAS Y RIVALES from 2001, a young person telenovela also with Lopez, joined by Michelle Vieth, Ludwika Paleta, Angelica Vale, Arath de la Torre, and Joana Benedek.

This is just wonderful, Melinama! Thank you so much. For those of us so new to this genre, this section will be a HUGE help. I will look forward to recommendations/comments from the very knowledgeable regulars. THANK YOU!!!

Any news about novela at 7? I wish Uni will choose CI

This is such a great idea! Especially for anyone watching "Qué bonito amor" "La hija del mariachi" is being shown on MundoFox in the mornings at 11:00 ET.

Is it oficial about Corozon Indomable?

Oh Lordy, I thought 3 hours a night for telefun was too much and now I'm faced with 4. What am I going to tell my friends!

Reading this thread is like looking at the Harry & David catalog...yum!

There was supposed to be an original Univision program called "Rosario" starring Guy Ecker (Eva Luna) and Itahisa Machado, but it has not aired yet.

What happened to that?

Corazón indomable is now official to replace Corona de lagrimas at 7 pm ET on Univision. It's start date is May 13.

No surprise given Uni's attempts to push Ana Brenda and the ratings success on the network of her previous novela.

Wow. I really can recommend Corazon. It's very pink, but very catching. Ana Brenda is a real star here. As for me, it is the best novela now in Mexico.
Alegria

Alegria, thanks for the recommendation for Corazón. However, I'm not sure what you mean by "it's very pink." I'm sorry to be so dense, but that's not an expression I've heard lately. I can imagine at least three possibilities: "aimed at women," "embarrassing," or "left wing." Did you mean one of these or something different?

It means very naive and very old-style. If you saw Marimar, you can understand what is this story about.
Alegria

Thanks, Alegria, for the explanation. And no, I've never seen Marimar.

Thanks to all for so much good information! This section is a great idea.

I just read on Más Que Telenovelas an announcement in Spanish that said that next month, on May 14, Telemundo will show some pilots for new telenovelas that will be aired in the coming season. This will take place on something called "Upfronts," about which I know nothing. However, here's what I do know (from the announcement):

Litzy ("Una Maid en Manhattan") and Fabián Ríos ("Corazón Valiente") will star in the pilot of one of the new telenovelas. Gerardo Murguia ("Mi corazón Insiste") will also be in this one.

Another pilot of these new projects began filming this Saturday and stars
Adriana Fonseca ("Corazón Valiente"), Jorge Luis Pila ("La Patrona") and Eugenio Siller ("Una maid en Manhattan"). Anna Layevska ("Relaciones Peligrosas") also participates in a pilot for one of the new projects.

The announcement points out that the actors who record the pilot project may not ultimately participate in the actual telenovela. It cited the example of the pilot for "Una Maid en Manhattan." The pilot featured Sandra Echeverría and Rafael Amaya, but the telenovela itself had Litzy and Eugenio Siller.

The full article en español can be found at http://masquetelenovelas.blogspot.com/2013/04/telemundo-se-prepara-para-presentar-su.html

Veering off topic, but Telemundo doesn't tape pilots in the traditional sense - that is, a complete episode of a potential new series with the actors contracted to continue if the show goes to series - but rather, produces short presentations - basically 3-4 minute trailers for potential telenovelas.

Typically, the network produces 5 or 6 of these presentations, usually, only about a third get produced - though from last year's upfronts, it looks like they are going to end up producing 5 out of 6.

Upfronts are big press events staged by TV networks for advertisers where the network sells commercial airtime for the upcoming TV season. This is done by talking about how amazing the past TV season was and by showing clips of their upcoming shows.

The actors used for these presentations are usually those under contract to the network who are available at the time to film the presentation, almost always by the time the telenovelas actually start production, the cast will change.

Thus, the presentation for the series that ultimately became Corazon Valiente featured David Chocarro, Gaby Espino, Ana Layevska and Maritza Bustamante; the presentation for Relaciones Peligrosas had Humberto Zurita, Maritza Rodriguez, Miguel Varoni; the presentation for Sin senos no hay paraiso had Liz Gallardo as Catalina.

A lot of these presentations can be viewed on You Tube, including some for projects that never were produced. (My favorite is an especially goofy one from about 2007 called Las Brujas de South Beach - a telenovela version of the US TV series Charmed with Natalia Streignard, Jullye Giliberti, Ana Lucia Dominguez and Catherine Siachoque as the Evil Countess Vanessa - gotta be seen to be believed)

Thanks, RG, for this very useful information about Telemundo and Upfronts. I guess I'll take what's presented in Upfronts with several additional grains of salt.

I had posted a note about a Spanish novela on the AB site some time ago. It's called Amor en tiempos revueltos and available in very good form on line. I then discovered that there are over a thousand episodes -- it ran for many years.

In despair over the end of AB and the lack of new novelas that really grab me, I started watching the 200 30-minute episodes that cover the Spanish Civil War and establishment in power of Franco and the nationalists. It is so good that while it may take me a long time, I will almost certainly finish this first year of the series. And, really, at 200 half-hour episodes, it's not too different from many of our Latin American telenovelas.

The actors are first-rate, the scripts intelligent, the history fascinating. Pilar Bardem, the mother of Javier Bardem and a famous Spanish actress, is achingly good.

Just a tip. Also looking forward to UniMas showing of Sin tetas no hay paraiso, which I gather is very good.

DAME CHOCOLATE is being rerun starting Monday, April 29 at 6 am ET on Telemundo. See Genesis Rodriguez act with a false nose and Maria Antonietta de las Nieves use an ear horn to hear. Carlos Ponce is the male protagonist; also with Kristina Lilley, Ricardo Chavez, Karla Monroig, Rosalinda Rodriguez, Jullye Giliberti, and Khotan.

Hola readers and commenters. The Producers Novelographies is ready for unveiling as a separate thread.

Please put any corrections or additions and I will make the corrections on the posting.

This is meant for a handy reference, so feel free to copy it onto your own blank document.

From time to time I'll make updates.

Telemundo is starting to release their teaser promos for two upcoming telenovelas.

One is DAMA Y OBRERO, an adaptation of a Chilean novela of the same name with Ana Layevska and Jose Luis Resendez as the protags, Fabian Rios as the antag. It will probably take the 8pm ET slot.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-nxIi0GcYs

Also coming soon to Telemundo is MARIDO EN ALQUILER, an adaptation of the Brazilian telenovela FINA ESTAMPA starring Sonya Smith, Juan Soler and Maritza Rodriguez.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYxIgnuMGHw

I'm guessing MARIDO will take the 9pm ET slot when LA PATRONA ends; with the upcoming Gaby Espino thriller going at 10 pm.

I had heard about a telenovela called "Cachito de cielo" and it had Maite Perroni in it. I wonder when Univision will ever air it?

Daniela Romo Update

I just saw a note in Wikipedia that she is scheduled to appear in Que Bonito Amor as Herself!!!!

Maybe that means we'll get some songs from this terrific performer.

RG--I wish I had time for Telemundo. I started watching the Chilean Dama y Obrero some time ago, still trying to finish it. I loved it. Stretches the believability at times, but what telenovela doesn't? If not, it would have to be a docudrama, no?

Anon at 12:50 on 5/10 (if you ever check back)--don't hold your breath for broadcast of Cachito del Cielo. See this quote from Wikipedia (with some spelling corrections):

Canal de las Estrellas broadcast Cachito del cielo starting June 11, 2012, replacing Amorcito Corazón. Due to the controversy of Pedro Fernández portraying a priest, and low ratings in Mexico, Cachito de Cielo concluded on November 9, 2012, replacing it with La Mujer Del Vendaval. (Whoever wrote it makes it sound like they pulled it before it finished, but my bet is that it finished.)

Synopsis

Renata Landeros de Franco (Maite Perroni) is as a young journalist who is in love with Adrian Gomes "Cachito" (Mane de la Parra). Both of them are happy until Cachito dies in a soccer match by getting hit by lightning, and is reincarnated in another corpse. Salvador Santillán "Padre Chava" (Pedro Fernandez), the priest of the city, will now be the one who will fight for Renata's love.

You may be able to find it on-line somewhere. Good luck.

Telemundo is revamping their daytime line up next week on Tuesday, May 28. Gone are "Al fondo hay sitio," "Historias de la Virgen Morena," and "Decisiones Juveniles."

AMAR DE NUEVO
At 10:30 am ET premieres "Amar de Nuevo" - a Telemundo novela made in Mexico in 2011 that is a spin-off of "Amarte Asi," aka "Frijolito."

Only the little boy who played Frijolito is back. the protags are Patricia Garza and Eduardo Rodriguez - who was last seen playing the pervy jefe of Ximena Duque on "Corazon Valiente." Cast also includes Jullye Giliberti, Jorge Eduardo Garcia who was the little boy from "Maid en Manhattan," and Briggitte Bozzo who was the little redhead girl in "Corazon Valiente" and the early scenes of "Abismo de Pasion."

5 VIUDAS SUELTAS
And at 12 pm ET is "5 Viudas Sueltas," a new Colombian telenovela from Caracol. It's about 5 women who meet each other visiting their husbands, who are all in prison for various reasons.

You can view an English friendly trailer at the Caracol Internacional catalog page.
http://www.caracolinternacional.com/en-us/p/105/five-widows-on-the-loose

PECADOS AJENOS
Finally, the 2007 Telemundo Miami telenovela "Pecados Ajenos" is being rerun on the Telemundo subchannel Exitos. It started Monday taking over the slots formerly held by "La Tormenta." It's good fun with Lorena Rojas and Mauricio Islas as the protags; with Catherine Siachoque, the three faces of Sonya Smith, a drunk Ariel Lopez Padilla, Sebastian Ligarde and Lupita Ferrer. The young uns include Mariana Torres, Sofia Lama, Jencarlos Canela and Ximena Duque.

Thanks, RG. I was just about to repost your information about changes in the daytime Telemundo line-up but you beat me to it!

Variopinta just posted a message on the Telemundo discussion page that may be of interest to others as well:

Hi Y'all

If you missed Una Famila con Suerte or you want to see it again it will be replacing Guapos at midnight starting on May 30th. This was a very funny TN and worth the watching, it has Sergio Sendel! Who could ask for anyone better, lol. Hardly any cell phones were thrown during his performances ; )

Thanks, Madelaine! I would love to watch Familia from the beginning -- I came in about 2/3 through, and I missed all the backstory. And I just adore Pina. We'll see how long it takes to get cable hooked up in the new place...

COMANDO ELITE on MUNDOFOX

MundoFox is running promos for a new Colombian action-novela called COMANDO ELITE that will probably take the 3 CAINES time slot (3 CAINES is in ultimas semanas).

COMANDO ELITE is another in the line of what Colombian press are dubbing "tombo-novelas" - novelas following the lives of cops. RCN has been alternating their prime time novelas between the narco-novelas and tombo-novelas.

COMANDO ELITE is inspired by stories from the book OBJETIVO 4. My understanding is the series will be a divided into 7 cases, each lasting about 10 episodes.

Trailer for COMANDO ELITE.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=q6B5-ycfyB8

Looks like Diana Hoyos and Claudio Catano are the main cops. She was the wife of the assassinated minister of justice in the early part of ESCOBAR, and Catano was the lead of the first season of A MANO LIMPIA.

Also in the trailer, I caught glimpses of a couple other actors I like: Tommy Vasquez who was in LA MARIPOSA and ESCOBAR and Julieth Restrepo who was in A MANO LIMPIA and a Colombian series that she was great in that hasn't played in the US yet called LA PROMESA.

El Noveno Mandamiento
(The Ninth Commandment)

This 2001 novela will be shown on Unimás starting Monday, June 24, from 7-9am CST, 8-10am EST.
I'm unfamiliar with this one but it does have a dynamite cast. For what it's worth, here's my translation of Uni's quick and dirty run-down on their website.

"Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife"

A story of love and sin

Isabel (Daniela Castro) and Leandro are very much in love and soon to be married. Before the wedding, Leandro has to take a trip. He wants to spend the night before his departure with his beloved Isabel.

But Clara (Chantal Andere), Isabel's sister, has always been in love with Leandro and she is prepared to do anything to separate them. That very night she will set a trap for them that will be fatal to their love.

This incident will mark their lives forever. Clara will manage, with her lies, to deceive Leandro and get him to marry her. Isabel will have to go away and forget about her great love. Will they recover their love one day?

The Ninth Commandment will follow the family forever since, years later, the brothers Bruno (Alejandro Ibarra) and Rodrigo Betancourt (Francisco Gattorno) will also forget about not coveting thy neighbor's wife. Ana (Daniela Castro), Isabel's daughter, will become the 'apple of discord' between these two brothers. Will the same tragic story be repeated? Will there be a happy ending? Don't miss El Noveno Mandimiento!

Univision is finally dusting off the 2012 Televisa novela CACHITO DE CIELO. Promos have it premiering Monday, July 22 at 2pm ET on Univision. Stars Pedro Fernandez and Maite Perroni. Is supposedly based on Warren Beatty/Julie Christie movie HEAVEN CAN WAIT, which was based on a 1940s movie HERE COMES MR. JORDAN, which was based on the play HEAVEN CAN WAIT.

Broadly, it's about an athlete who dies, but due to some mistake by some angels, is allowed to return to earth in another body. He then tries to re-win the girl he loves.

SECRETOS DEL PARAISO

MundoFox is premiering a new Colombian telenovela called SECRETOS DEL PARAISO on Monday, July 22 at 8 pm ET. It seems to be the most traditional telenovela the network has aired in prime time in a while, a remake of an early 1990s novela called LA MALDICION DEL PARAISO.

The plot has to do with a woman getting in a love triangle between two brothers. The original had a bunch of hooey about curses and the girl's mother having been in a similar situation that led to tragedy, and whether or not the tragedy would repeat itself with the daughter.

The novela stars Natalia Duran as the protag, Juan Pablo Espinosa (EL SECRETARIO) as the black sheep older brother; Silvia de Dios as the protag's mother.

STARTING TONIGHT (WED., July 10)

A new telenovela, MARIDO EN ALQUILER, will be beginning tonight at 9 pm on Telemundo. Here's the start of the description: "The new series, starring Sonya Smith, Juan Soler and Maritza Rodriguez, tells the story of a working class woman, Griselda, who works as a plumber. She struggles to get her family through but wants the best for her children. Her life changes when she meets Reinaldo, a rich restaurant owner who she falls in love with. However the two will face obstacles from Reinaldo's arrogant and demanding wife Teresa Cristina." More info from this same source is available here.

LOS REYES

The 2005 Colobian telenovela LOS REYES starts Wednesday, July 17 at 2 pm ET on MundoFox.

This is the Colombian version of the story that would be done in Mexico a few years later as UNA FAMILIA CON SUERTE.

SANTA DIABLA

Telemundo has announced that its new telenovela, Santa Diabla, will begin on Tuesday, August 6, at 10 p.m. EDT. Starring will be Gaby Espino, Aarón Díaz, and Carlos Ponce. The previews look interesting.

This novela will replace El Señor de los Cielos, which is now in últimos capítulos.

LA MUJER DEL VENDAVAL - premieres on Univision on Monday, August 19 at 3 p.m. ET. It stars Ariadne Diaz and Jose Ron; and also features Chantal Andere, Alfredo Adame and Florencia del Saracho.

Story has to do with a young woman who will receive a large inheritance on condition she marries. She needs the money to save her family ranch, so she puts out an ad seeking worth suitors. Plot also has to do with a stolen necklace from family of the male protag.

MundoFox is running Muy Pronto promos for a couple telenovelas.

One is a new one called CONTRA LAS CUERDAS, an adaptation of an Argentine telenovela of the same name. It has to do with a boxer on the run after he refuses to fix a fight. It stars Emerson Rodriguez and Manuela Gonzalez.

Also coming up is a rerun of LA MARCA DEL DESEO, a telenovela from 2007 that aired on Telefutura a few years back. A lot of familiar faces in that one - it stars Stephanie Cayo, Juan Alfonso Baptista, Marcelo Buquet and Katie Barberi; and also features Maria Elena Camargo, Heidy Bermudez, Sara Corrales and Gabriel Valenzuela.

LA MADAME

La Madame premieres Monday, August 26 at 10pm ET on UniMas. It's a Colombian production starring Alicia Machado as the title character who runs a high-priced escort service to clients that include high government officials, prominent businessmen and dangerous criminals.

It is inspired by the Madame Rochy book. Series also stars Roberto Mateos and Jessica San Juan.

DANIELA

Telemundo's digital subchannel Exitos started a re-run of their 2002 telenovela DANIELA today. It was I think the first starring role for Litzy (UNA MAID EN MANHATTAN); also features Rodrigo de la Rosa, who had a good role on EL ROSTRO DE LA VENGANZA, and Osvaldo Benavides, who was most recently on CLOROFORMO.

Episodes air at 7am ET and is repeated every four hour through the day.

La Reina del Sur

Telemundo has announced that it will be (re)running La Reina del Sur at 9:00 p.m. beginning Monday, November 11. This superb telenovela stars Kate del Castillo, Rafael Amaya, Iván Sánchez, and Cristina Urgel (to name just a few--the whole cast was almost uniformly excellent). The novela is based on the novel by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, and the author had a hand in the adaptation.

I saw "La Reina del Sur" when it was first broadcast in 2011, and I was bowled over. It was/is the best telenovela I've ever seen. Indeed, it felt less like a telenovela and more like a compelling film that lasted for three months rather than two hours.

Anyway, those who are sorry they missed it the first time and those who want to see it again will have a chance starting November 11.

anything on the horizon starring cristian de la fuente, or silvia navarro?

La Impostura

I've just read that Telemundo will present a new telenovela, La Impostura, starring Christian Bach, Sebastián Zurita, and Lisette Morelos, beginning Tuesday, January 14, at 8:00 PM EST.

According to Más Qué Telenovelas, the plot involves Blanca, an attractive waitress who has a talent for imitating other people. One day she is hired by a powerful businessman to pass herself off as a millionaire investor from New York. She doesn't realize that after this lie, she will find love.

Apparently "La Impostura" will replace "Marido en Alquiler."

Camelia La Texana
This new narconovela will begin tonight, Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, on Telemundo at 10 pm. It stars Sara Maldonado, who was Verónica (Teresa 2) in La Reina del Sur. Another major member of the cast is Dagoberto Gama, who played Pote in La Reina del Sur. I'm not sure I'm ready for another telenovela about narcotraficantes, but I think I'll watch tonight and see.

I wonder if Unvision will consider airing Libre para Amarte because that show was confirmed as part of their programming schedule. Why haven't they shown it yet?

El Señor de los Cielos 2

Telemundo has produced a second season of the very successful telenovela, "El Señor de los Cielos." Announcements have said that it will begin Monday, May 26. I'm not sure about the hour, but my guess is that it will be at 10 p.m., the same hour as the first season. In the meantime, Telemundo has posted on its web site a 7-part Capítulo Secreto that attempts to bridge the gap between seasons 1 and 2. The 45-minute sequence can be found at http://tinyurl.com/kzprkz2

El Señor de los Cielos 2

Today I paid more attention to the announcement, and I was right: this telenovela will be aired on Telemundo at 10 pm beginning Monday, May 26.

Spanish-language version of Breaking Bad on Unimás

Look for Metastasis, the Spanish language version of the Emmy-winning AMC drama, beginning June 8 at 8pm central time on Univisión's sister station, Unimás.

The original drama aired 62 episodes over six years; this version will race by in three months, telenovela style. I'm not sure if the number of episodes will be the same as the original.

The setting will be Bogotá, Colombia rather than Albuquerque, New Mexico.

I don't know about you guys, but I've already got my DVR set to record it.

This comment has been removed by the author.

Metastasis

Hi NovelaMaven. I'm all set to watch Metastasis too. I loved the original Breaking Bad (watched the whole series in 6 days) and really looking forward to this Spanish version.

It will actually air at 10pm/9pm Central right after the finale of La Viuda Negra. The first episode will air simultaneously on UniMas, Univision, and Galavision. The rest of the series will only air on UniMas at 10pm/9pm Central.

Hi Mauricio!

Thanks for clarifying the time slot for Metástasis. I'm really looking forward to this one. I haven't seen the original version, though of course everybody raves about it.

I doubt that anyone will end up recapping this, but comments about the series will be welcome on the Telemundo y más page.

Mauricio, I loved recapping with you. I hope we get to work together again some time. It's good to hear from you.

It is good to hear from you too, NovelaMaven. I also enjoyed recapping with you and the others.

I hope others will join us in watching and commenting on Metástasis.

Reina de Corazones

Telemundo has announced that a new telenovela, Reina de Corazones, will begin at 8 pm on Monday, July 7. It will replace "La Impostora." Here's a very brief plot summary taken from latinospost.com: Reina de Corazones will star "Paola Núñez, Eugenio Siller, Juan Soler and Catherine Siachoque. The new soap opera is set in Sin City, Las Vegas and tells a love story that must overcome the barrier of memory, where the glamorous nightlife and casinos play a prominent role in a plot characterized by mysterious twists and turns, espionage, conspiracy, intrigue, crime and romance." Some additional information and photos are now available on Telemundo's web site.

Reina de Corazones

I should add that the brief trailers that Telemundo has been showing make the novela look considerably more interesting than the rather soppy summary I posted above.

Los Miserables

Just a short note to let people know that a new telenovela will be starting on Telemundo Tuesday, September 30, from 9_10 p.m. It's called Los Miserables and it stars Aracely Arámbula, Aarón Díaz, and Eric Hayser. More information can be found on the Telemundo website:
http://msnlatino.telemundo.com/novelas/Los_Miserables.

Dueños del paraíso

A new telenovela, "Dueños del paraíso," starring Kate del Castillo (who played Teresa Mendoza in "La Reina del Sur") will begin on Telemundo on Tuesday, January 13, at 10 p.m. EST. Here's a brief announcement from Más Que Telenovelas . I can't wait!

Just saw a promo for Amores con trampas during the Premios lo nuestro. Just said "muy pronto". Eduardo Yañez, África Zavala, Itati Cantoral.

Bajo el mismo cielo

Telemundo will soon be showing a new telenovela, "Bajo el mismo cielo." The network has been saying simply "muy pronto" (very soon), but someone said that People en español has reported that the novela will start on July 28.

Here's a short account of the plot from the Telemundo website (my translation):
"Bajo el mismo cielo" is the story of Carlos Martínez, an undocumented Mexican who lives in Los Angeles. He's an honorable, hardworking man who has a constant fear of being deported and losing his two sons, Luis and Rodrigo. His great dream has been to give them a better life, but his longing is darkened when his older son, Rodrigo, disappears without a trace and joins a gang. Meanwhile, Carlos will try to protect Luis and keep him away from the dangerous traps that ravage the city. In his desperate attempt to take care of him, he will meet Adela, a gang member who will steal his heart.
