PEAM # 19- I Just Love It When You Speak to Me Forcefully and This is What Happens to Your Body if You Smoke

Happy Thursday, the weekend is almost here.

We begin with Pati and Alma talking about how suddenly status doesn’t matter to Pati.  He is just a simple, respectable man.  He is some chupazo !!!! The woman who has him is a lucky woman.
Xochy puts 2 +2 together and asks Chucho if he is in love with Alma.  He tries to dismiss it but Xochy is not falling for any excuses.  He says that she is his guardian angel, trying to keep it platonic but Xochy is buying it for now.  Alma is getting ready to be married, she’s classy (hecha and derecha) and he respects and admires her and as Xochy gets closer, his phone rings.

Uptight Vero is yelling on the other end of the phone, like nails on a chalkboard. She is screeching about Valentina being on a public bus, germ city and with a dog!!!  How imprudent and irresponsible is he????? She prepared a looong list for him to follow.  Why was Valentina sleeping with his girlfriend, Chatita?  Chucho was trying to explain, and she continued screeching about Valentina being late to school. On a bus with bacteria and infections, blah, blah, blah.  A thief came into the house, what type of neighborhood do you live in, etc. etc.  He threatened to hang up and then Chucho straightened up his back and read her the riot act. Valentina is a child, like it or not his child too, let her enjoy life and live without so many rules. Stop putting absurd things into her head. Two men were in the elevator, one was smoking, the smoke was bothering Jesus. He hung up on her and she had an orgasmic look on face!!!!! Jesus let the smoking man have it too; smoking in such a small space and Baldomero introduced Maximo Valtierra, President of Orion Corporation.  Another blunder.
Valentina, with her little adorable self, overheard the conversation and told her mother that she spoke badly to her father.  Val walked away and Vero finally showed some human feelings.
Iron fisted Vero, was totally turned on by Chucho’s aggressive attitude towards her.
Maximo walked in smoking, which bothered Alma, but according to Rogue he owns half of Monterrey so he can do what he wants. He had the nerve to say that it smells funny and Rogue explained that there was little fire.  How could he smell anything?

Frisky Fern (and I preferred him without his pants) kept calling Chucho, waiting for his clothes and Chucho asked Balmero, his friend from the elevator if he could have his suit.  Pati, the Octopus strutted into the office and proceeded to prop herself on Chucho’s desk. She had a wonderful plan for him for tonight.

Maximo, still with the cigarette hanging form his mouth and noticeably bothering Alma and Rogue discussed his proposal.  Alma asked him to please stop smoking and he obliged.
Pati invited Chucho to a fundraiser. He will be her date.  Chucho declined, its not appropriate.  (Money can’t buy class)
Pati wouldn’t take no for an answer and she embellished the story saying that Alma didn’t mind, he would be helping the children, yada, yada. Pati the Octopus was all over Chucho, so he jokingly said I’m a 42 large.
Max, still with the cigarette hanging out of  his mouth but unlit, confirmed that he would be at the fundraiser tonight.  Fern was bending over and his pants ripped and Max got a kick out of that.

Valentina is on her computer getting ready to skype her dad.  The nanny was impressed.  She was worried about her mother’s reaction to her visit with her dad, but Chucho insisted that she tell the truth and that’s all that matters.    They will communicate through skype until the Ice Princess cools off.  The Fuchsia Club envied the little scene.  It was sweet!

The Brothers Dimm were complaining about Fern’s clothes.

Susana was looking at lungs and lips that have been damaged by smoking, and planning on sending them to her husband.  They were going to make captions- here is how you will look if you smoke.

Susanna had to email some documents to Max, she pressed send while Rogue was watching.  Baldomero was asking Chucho for his clothes.  He told Max that he spilled coffee on them.  Susana emailed the damaged lungs photos to Max instead of the documents.  He continued smoking as he read the papers and then appeared to have had a heart attack or stroke.  (This seemed to be a PSA about the dangers of smoking)

Susana was hyperventilating; Chucho was trying to calm her down.  Susana’s husband called and couldn’t speak to him.  Chucho tried to call Max but he was not answering his cell.  Susana was worried about the affects of her mistake.  Chucho will make it right and he will take responsibility.

Rogue announced that he will be married in a month and he is installing all of the Fuchsia Club to help.  It should be the most unforgettable weeding ever held.

Chucho, thought bubbled to the kiss last night and that Alma will marry Rogue in one month.   Fern is still whining about his suit, because it was too small.  He was humiliated in front of the most important man in Monterrey. He shows the Human Resources Director.

Jesus, asks Alma to sign some documents for him, and makes small talk about the upcoming wedding, that will be here before you know it.  Jesus offers to help in any way and of course Alma refuses.
She has Jesus confirm the date with the church.

Fern calls Jesus, trying to find out who is the owner of the pants.   Jesus tells Fern that they belong to Max’s bodyguard.  Fern is waiting for his dry suit and Jesus finds the suit on the ground of the warehouse.  Fern is taking out of Jesus’ pay the cost of suit and the other debacle (which wasn’t Jesus’ fault) with the sandwich. By payday, Jesus may owe Avon.
Xochy fixed Baldemero’s pants.  Jesus thinks about his small check on payday.
Susana finds out on transistor radio ( did I just type the word, transistor, who uses a transistor, there's no hurricane) that Max had a heart attack.  He was looking at some pictures on his computer that were sent from Rogue at Avon.

Jesus explained to Alma about the photo mix up.  The photos were intended for Susana’s husband and not Maximo Valtierra.  Jesus took the blame for Max’s heart attack but Alma said that the photos had nothing to do with the heart attack.  The man smoked too much.

Elias the Wonderful greets Valentina and notes that she is worried. Val explains that The Ice Princess is upset because Papa Jesus took her to school late.  Val had a ball with her dad.  Elias will chip away at the Ice Princess so that she will be able to see her Papa Jesus-it’s a Mission Impossible.

Baldomero explains to Jesus what happened with Maximo.  Max is going to live!!!!
Jesus gets to see Valentina dressed as a fairy princess, but Vero cannot be told, the nanny helped to keep the secret.  Jesus gave her a bag of candy, which we know is like having illegal drugs in The Ice Princess’ home.  Jesus goes home and sees the police at the building.  He was worried about Chatita. He finds out that his apartment was robbed but according to Chatita they didn’t take anything.    The officer thought that the apartment was emptied out except for a little bit of furniture.  Jesus has to prove, that he is renting/owns the apartment or why he is living there, uh oh.

Coming attractions- Pati, the Octopus is jealous, the Brothers Dimm are upset at the fundraiser because Jesus came and Alma looks exquisite.

Hi all,
Please excuse my manners but I didn't get to see Tuesday and Wednesday's episodes, so thank you to Julie and Jody, I will catch up on the weekend.

Thanks, Tablet Jefa for such a quick and complete recap.

My only comment: Verónica still has it bad for Jesüs.

Jarifa

TJ, I'm in the same boat as you, missing two episodes and having to give extra thanks to you and Jody. I will catch up on my viewing this weekend too, but I'm really glad I can at least keep up with recaps from day to day.

The Ice Princess, Vero, better chill or her daughter will run away from home to hang with her *real* Pappa, now that he's shown her now to use public transportation! Gertie

Specially when he rides the bus!!

Very entertaining Jesus log, PV! And many thanks to T J for an awesome recap. Still watching the episode here in LA....love watching the kid Skype! Gertie

TJ:

Thanks for the marvelous quick recap. I especially loved the the candy as "illegal substances" line, lol. I hope Valentina hides it from Vero. Also Vero's reaction was too funny, and that growling or was it mewing, lol. She does have it really bad for Jesus still.

I can't stand Fern, what a jerk. I hope they don't take the money out for the suit and the sandwich. That is just too sad.

Can't wait to find out how this fundraiser goes and in the avances Rog sure looks jealous that Chucho is with Patymelt.

PV:

Your timeline was hilarious.

Pablo, great timeline!

Jarifa

Great recap TJ. Thanks. And your timeline is also hilarious Pablo. I too was wondering how Jésus had time to get to the hospital and to trick or treat both after that exhausting day.

Oh yes, Vero has it bad for Jésus. What a sweety is Jésus' new friend Baldomero. First he makes himself late by waiting with Sanson while Jésus delivers Valentina to school and argues with the teacher. Then he gives up his clothes with very little explanation.

btw --at school they were celebrating Día de los muertos this morning. So is that the same day that Valentina would go trick or treating (accompanied by a nurse dressed in white -- don't all children have a nurse in waiting wherever they go?

Güera

TJ- Great recap!

Pablo- Loved the timeline. Well, at least Jesus can say his days are never boring.

Well, well, well. Seems that Vero is hiding a hot blooded tigress under that Ice Queen facade. Maybe at some point we'll hear Jesus and Elias comparing notes on what a wild woman Vero is in the bedroom, and we'll know how she got two amazing guys like them to stay with her as long as they did/have.

Güera- ITA. Baldo is a sweety. Perhaps he's a good future match for Xochi?

Yeah! So Marisela can keep the taxi driver! If her social status ever allows it. I am thinking, if Mr Valtierra owns half a Monterrey, does Marisela's father owns the other half? LOL

You're welcome. It came to me when I thought, wait a minute, is this the same day with the tardiness and the fire and all that? I need to write this down for the record!

I think they're butchering a very old special celebration in México, such as Day of the dead, mixing it up with Halloween.
Halloween takes place in oct. 31st. like they do here, kids go out with the plastic pumpkin asking for candy. My guess is that the nurse outfit was a costume.
In nov. 1st. we celebrate a special day of the dead (for kids) called ''día de los angelitos'' but the most important is the 2nd. when most people visit the cemetery early in the morning, cleans and decorate tombs and leave food so their deceased relatives can eat. This is the only day they can ''come out'' to visit us. At home, some people make ''altares'' with the pictures of their relatives and the food they liked most, candles, candy, tequila, etc.
That day people don't go ''trick-or-treating'' but you can ask for a ''calaverita'' -little skull- made out of sugar with your name on the forehead (optional). I am not against celebrating both of them, but seriously, don't mix them, Día de muertos is very special and traditional celebration. Nothing like Halloween.

Pablo:

Thanks for the cultural comment. It is interesting. When I was in Italy they don't trick or treat, but they do the same thing on All Saints Day, Nov 1st. They go out to the cemetery, and clean the graves of dear departed ones and then picnic there.

El día de los muertos/Day of the Dead: as long as I have my "pan de muertos" (dead bread) I am happy!

Jarifa

Could be a coincidence, but as I was looking into boxes of stuff to take out for a sidewalk sale, I found this piece of paper with an article related. Here's the link:
http://hazte.blogspot.com/2013/04/dia-de-muertos.html
If you click on the image, you can get the whole 3 columns page.

Thanks for this, Tablet jefa. Very well done.

I get such a kick out of watching Roni. She really is very attractive and as I've mentioned, I think that she is the most interesting character in this TN although Elias is a very close second. Both are very complex and fascinating.

Pablo, I'm pretty sure that nurse outfit is the only thing I've seen Valentina's nanny wearing from the very beginning... including those strange above-the-elbows gloves.

Carlos

Pablo,
Loved "la inocencia de Pepito"

Maybe the lesson at school was to prepare the children. So maybe this lo-o-o-ong day was actually Oct. 31 and not Nov. 1 or 2.

As for the nurse outfit, that is all she wears. Whenever she interacts with Valentina she is in the nurse outfit.

I've got my VCR set for tonight & Monday. I'm off to DC for the weekend. Meetings with legislators on Monday to discuss Haiti. Hope I can find a friendly crowd at the hotel to watch the SU game with. Fingers crossed for Saturday.

Güera

Güera- You'll be in DC AND speaking about Haiti! Two of my favorite places. I am sure you will find someone in this city to watch the game with.

Yes, I remember the nuns explaining the importance of All Saints Day and All Souls day back in caflic' school in Philly.....listening to it and trying to be devout while still on my 72 hour sugar high from Halloween. My mom and aunts would often take us to the cemetary to put fresh flowers on my grandparents and great grand parents graves. Gertie

Thanks TABLET JEFA...loved the

"like nails on a chalkboard"

"the Fuchsia Club" and

"chip away at the Ice Princess"

Clearly the Ice Princess wants somebody to storm her castle. Maybe Elias needs to get more assertive and haul some of those cold ashes of hers. Could lower everybody's stress level.

PABLO, thanks for the timeline and I have a language question for you...

Chucho said the secretary's husband "fuma como chacuaco"...at least that's what the captions said. Is that like our expression "he smokes like a chimney" ?

Pablo, the timeline is actually very helpful. The only way I can keep track of what day it is, is by noticing Alma's dress. But that doesn't work after everyone's gone home from the office.

This is not by a long shot the longest day I've ever been through in a TN. There were a few in La Fea Mas Bella that went on for a couple of weeks.

Thanks for reminding me!
That was the word that I didn't write down yesterday and forgot about it. I was paying more attention to the name of the Hospital where Mr Valtierra is recovering (which doesn't exist) and I only got two down. Here they are:

HIJOLE (surprise) Gee is a good approx.
PATATUS (to die) Kick the bucket.
CHACUACO(A) (chimney, oven, inciense burner) Yes. Smokes like a chimney is the best translation.

It is interesting (in my case I do it only to see if they ''goof'').
I would like to have the time, oh, wait, I do!! to go back and see how long has been since Jesús arrived in Monterrey. After that I will keep track to check if they have a Christmas episode or a Thanksgiving one. One never knows, continuity is not their best asset. LOL

Sometimes a TN will have a Christmas or other holiday special that is either not shown here at all, or is shown on a weekend. I think LFMB and UFCS both did specials, but I never saw them.

I was a little confused about the date because of the Christmas tree at Chatita's. When Vero asked about it, that's how I knew it wasn't December!

Well... Chatita has an alibi since she doesn't know what day it is or who she is. I was also wondering about that because everybody at AVON was almost naked, or in skimpy outfits for all that matter, and it was not cold. Monterrey has a very dry climate, with very cold winters and scorching summers. If this is november the 2nd. It should be nippy, isn't it? OMG, sorry, let me go get my beanie!!

Thanks Pablo. I love having a language tutor on line. You're the best.

TJ--Sooo good. Especially when you didn't get to see the two prev. epis. Yes, thank you Julie & Jody for giving you a boost. That said, you got the sense, the flavor, the smoky smell, the looks, the frustration, the antics, plus all the Vero angst with that little backdrop of lust after Jesus' body.

Love your little asides, Valtierra--how could he smell anything? Frisky Fern--preferring him without his pants (me too); transistors--did you just type the word? Yep, and I remember them. My father actually built one for me from a kit. It worked great and had a nice leather case.

...The Fuschia Club--Why is it that only Chucho doesn't have to wear an ID tag? Even Xolxhi has one, and Alma, too.

...the most unforgettable weeding ever. No truer weeds were spoken!!

...Elias the Wonderful. Who knew Chucho would find a bro in the Ice Queen's igloo.

...Pati the Octopus. She doesn't need eight arms to wear that label.

Pablo--what can I say, but sooo glad you are commenting on this tn. You have added so much to our knowledge and enjoyment of our "south" of gringolandia neighbors (and friends). But you are funny, too. Thank you for the timeline.

When DO these folks work? Well, Heysus does get Alma to sign documents from time to time, she shuffles folders and they have a lot of meetings (oh and Susanna *is* capable of sending documents by e-mail).

Thanks for the great recap!

I was kind of glad when Smokey Joe keeled over. All his smoke was making ME ill, through the television screen! Who really thinks it's okay to smoke in an elevator or someone else's office?

It was definitely summer, or perhaps very early fall, when Chulo left Chicago. Has a month and a half-ish already passed? Time flies. I didn't check the calendar, but if the Day of the Dead fell on a weekend or if they had that day off from school, they would probably do their school discussion and observance ahead of time, which could make it happen on Halloween. So that part of the timeline didn't bother me.

Chulo does fit a lot into a day. Just the day before, didn't he pick up Sanson at the airport at five, take a long cab ride, argue with the driver, lose the dogue, spend some time frantically searching for the dogue, finally admit that the dogue was missing, and still make it on time to pick up Valentina at 7, presumably across town? He moves fast :).

Thanks. OK. I know I am flooding this section, but I just love to do this!

''So many things, so little time'' or ''In Avon we never take a day off for beauty's sake''

Jesús timeline:

Oct 22 Wednesday -Jesús celebrates my birthday and then leaves for Chicago, where he studies and works.
Oct 23 Thursday -Jesús roomate shows him proof of his daughter and call Verónica.
Oct 24 Friday -Jesús meets Uri and decides to go to México. That night his coworkers throw him a farewell party.
Oct 25 Saturday -Jesús arrives in Monterrey and gets in trouble. That same night finds a place to stay.
Oct 26 Sunday -While looking for work the fateful bucket falls and he is interviewed at Avon. He refuses to work as a male secretary.
Oct 27 Monday -After breakfast with Chatita he decides to go back and apologise and he gets the job! Half of Monterrey population wish it was that easy! But, half of Monterrey is not Fernando Colunga, true?
Oct 28 Tuesday -After a hard first day he is told to stay until he finishes all the scanning nobody did because they were too busy running their lips...
Oct 29 Wednesday -Early that morning Jesús gets a phone call from Spain (where I am sure it was Tuesday morning) and then get to see Alma naked.
Oct 30 Thursday -Jesús gets his new uniform, Fern/Jess are thrown from the delivery truck, Verónica checks out the apartment and Alma doesn't feel like doing the nasty on schedule.
Oct 31 Halloween -Jesús and Susana spend all afternoon looking for a ring because that night Rogelio will propose to Alma.
Nov 1 Saturday -Jesús tries to pick up Alma but she isn't there. Jesús looses Sansón. Tonight Valentina will spend the night with daddy Jesús but he kisses Alma instead.
Nov 2 Sunday -Valentina is late to School (?), there's a fire outbreak, and so on and so on, oh! Tonight takes place the Charity Cocktail party, even when tomorrow is a workday! So, you better be the designated driver!

Pablo , thank you for the timelines. You are just a plethora of knowledge.

Thanks, but I was always very curious about the time-lapse and thanks to this recaps I can explore past episodes to my heart content. Thanks to you all! It is not meant to be accurate, just to give you an idea!

If only half of Monterrey is not Fernando Colunga, that leaves a lot for us to work with...

Thanks, Tablet Jefa, for a concise but entirely complete recap.

Re Valentina's nurse, haven't we also seen her w/ a mask over her mouth inside the house. The long gloves and the old-fashioned nurse outfit are almost too much with or without the mask.

Pablo, thanks for the clarification re Day of the Dead and Valentina's costume and candy bucket. I remember when we were stationed in England that the Brits traditionally don't do trick-or-treat. That is, unless they live near one of our air bases and then they catch on fast as to where the Yanks live and the free sweeties to be had.
