Amores Verdaderos #121 Wed 5/1/13 It takes a village ... to marry off a very rich child

It's too soon in our story for a Happy Ever After wedding, but just the right time for a Holy Moly, Granny, She's Gonna Blow! kind of event.  So tonight, as we watch the elaborate and costly preparations for the wedding of Nikki and Roy, we see past the sunlight to the storm clouds.  And more ominous still, we see Leo resurface, burning with hatred, lusting for revenge!

A scenic overlook -- corny but lovely
Nikki ignores her own feelings, her mother's advice and the pleas of the man she really loves.  She can't hate Guzmán, she says, but there's no future for them. [But the important thing is she looks like a million bucks.  And she cries so pretty.]

Rolando's late night visit
Lili remembers who she is [Yay, Lili!].  She tells Rollie to cool it: she's not going to provoke something [dar pie a algo] that isn't going to happen.  Her first time is going to be something special, something to remember.  Roy understands.  And he's sad about leaving -- who knows for how long.  He'll miss her.

Whoa.  Something is happening to Roy's eyes.  Are those tears?  Yes!  And when Lili tells him not to worry because she'll be waiting for him, he is a goner. A fool for love.  "Don't ever forget me, Lili!"  "I won't!"

Francisco Guzmán confronts his nemesis
Frankie bursts into Kendra's room at the Balvanera Mansion.  Why did she poison Nikki against him?  Kendra doesn't bother to deny the accusation.  She warned him, didn't she?  And if he doesn't leave right now, she'll cry "rape".

In the Balvanera kitchen
José Ángel finds it hard to believe that Candelaria's letter just vanished.  No, he isn't accusing Lili of breaking her oath.  They consider calling Cande but realize she's still on the bus.  It's fifteen hours to Álamos. [If the bus ride doesn't kill her, she probably is good for another twenty or thirty years.]

Vikki's home office
Vikki is on the phone with Doris (Remember when we used to like Doris?) about who goes when:  Salsero and the house workers head to the hacienda later today; Nelson too.  The Ikki's and their bodyguards fly there tomorrow in a helicopter (at which point Candelaria will probably still be on the bus to Álamos).

She Who Has No Shame, i.e. Kendra, joins Vikki, shares the good news that her (probably) non-existent gynecologist has given her leave to go to the wedding.  Swell, says Vikki.  Nelson is traveling alone to the hacienda tonight.  Why not go with him?  Okey doke.  When Kendra kvetches that she has no jewels to wear with her slinky red dress -- cuz she wuz robbed! -- Vikki generously offers to lend her some of her own jewelry.  She'll bring it to the hacienda the next day.

Nikki's bedroom
Tomi wants to know about the bachelorette party.  Dos tres says Nikki dismissively.  (So so)  But the night didn't turn out the way Tomi might think -- she ended up eating corn from a street vendor (elotes callejeros) (and here Nikki smiles dreamily and catches Guzmán's eye as he listens and watches): Fue un momento mágico que siempre voy a recordar. (It was a magical moment that I'll always remember.)

Nelson confronts the AlphaBalvanera in his den
Nelson Brizz knows that Aníbal quashed the exposé about Victoria.  Not only that, says Aníbal smugly, the journalist lost his job for trying to be too clever (pasarse de listo) And if it weren't for the wedding tomorrow, Nelson would be out on his ear too.  But once he gets back from the hacienda, he's going to give Victoria a divorce and sell his shares in Meta Imagen to his suegro.  Got it?

Nelson surprises the old man.  He won't go along with him this time.  He has some valuable information as a bargaining chip.  Hint:  Candelaria kept this secret for years.  Maybe Nelson will let it slip that Arriaga's wife was the old guy's daughter …

Nelson saunters out of the room leaving Aníbal gobsmacked:  How did he find out???

Now Lili enters Aníbal's room with a plant -- a calla lily, I think.  Did she tell anyone that he and her grandmother knew each other?  Lili assures him she did not.  But a funny thing happened -- her grandmother wrote a letter before she left for Álamos and told the Arriagas it was to be opened only upon her death.  Where is the letter?  It disappeared!  (And now Aníbal knows how Nelson found out.)

Meanwhile Kendra is throwing things in a suitcase and giving Espanto his orders on the phone.  He is to buy a stolen cell phone for the next part of her plan.  Oh it's gonna be fun!

How do you like being a widower?
Nelson, still on a high from the sucker-punch he just gave Aníbal, forgets he is a puny, sniveling coward and he taunts the Angel about how nice it must be to have Victoria to comfort him in his grief.  Vikki hears this and speaks for the Patio when she says:  No te soporto, Nelson.  Now Aníbal joins the group and Nelson teases that it's about time to give Arriaga the news … But before he can go any further, Victoria and JA walk away.

Aníbal tells Nelson he won't be blackmailed. Maybe Cristina was his daughter.  But now she's dead and the information can't be used against him.  But Nelson reminds him of his new granddaughter*, the one who works for him as a gardener.  Will Nikki forgive something like that?
[*Nelson knows that Lili is Adriana's daughter but Aníbal still thinks she's Cristina's. I don't think Nelson knows that Aníbal doesn't know.  You know?]

And what is Victoria going to think when she realizes that her lover is her dead sister's husband?  The two of them fell in love with the same hick.  They must have gotten their low tastes from their father -- cuz Candelaria isn't exactly the cousin of the Queen of England!

What does Nelson want for his silence?  He wants Arriaga and his daughter out of the house!

Outside the Balvanera Mansion
Lili takes a moment from her gardening chores to call Rolando.  He takes her call in his car just as he pulls into the Balvanera driveway.  Frankie comes down the front steps and overhears the conversation. And when Nikki comes out a moment later, he tells her that her fiancé was making a date with another woman.  Roy stoutly denies this.  Nikki not only believes Roy, but dismisses Guzmán.  She and Roy pull out of the driveway together with Guzmán right behind them in his car.

Lili walks toward the house and reflects that Roy hung up before she could tell him she would be going to the Balvanera Hacienda tonight.

Inside the Mansion
Aníbal tells Victoria that she has to get rid of Arriaga.  Nelson sees his presence as a provocation and Aníbal wants to avoid any embarrassing incidents at the wedding. [Good luck with that!]  Vikki puts her foot down.  Arriaga is the only one who has kept her safe.  He stays!

In the Greenhouse
Adri comforts Lili.  She'll never replace her mother but she's there with to listen to her or give her a hug whenever Lili needs her.

Inside the Mansion
Did Aníbal give Arriaga the boot?  He couldn't, he tells Nelson.  Victoria reminded him that the only time she came to serious harm was when Arriaga was away.  When Nelson threatens to talk,  Aníbal rumbles a warning worthy of don Corleone:

No le pises la cola al diablo, Nelson.  ¡No se la pises!
(Don't step on the devil's tail)

Nelson doesn't actually want Arriaga's daughter to find out she is a Balvanera.  He doesn't want anyone else competing for a place at the table.  Aníbal says he knows that Nelson confiscated (decomisaste) Candelaria's letter.  Nelson retorts he knows that Aníbal stole the naughty video.  So there!  Cut the crap, says Aníbal.  What does Nelson want?  Two things:

First, keep Liliana's identity as a Balvanera from going public.
Second, if Arriaga stays on, Nelson's percentage in the business must increase.  Subtantially.

That's Nelson's price.

You were hoping he was moldering in a bodybag somewhere, right?
No such luck.  Leo is hunkered down in a shabby restaurant where he and a fellow sociopath plan Beatriz's punishment.  She made him cry so now it's her turn.  He'll hit her where it hurts: he's going to take her boy from her and see that she rots in jail!  His fellow crazy cackles appreciatively.
[And even though it is a mild spring evening, a shudder traverses the Patio and people shiver and pull their collars up against the sudden chill.]

Beautiful dreamers
Salsero has stopped by Paula's apartment to visit Bea before he leaves for the hacienda.  Salsa Dude is going to imagine that he and Betty are the couple in the wedding. He grew up alone and now he dreams of a family with her and Guillo.  She promises him a life filled with love.  They kiss, unaware of the evil that lurks in the night.

Nelson is feeling his oats
He has summoned Arriaga to assert his claim on Victoria.  Even if Vikki won't let him fire Arriaga, she is still Nelson's wife.  And he has no intention of letting her go.  But Victoria doesn't love Nelson!  Arriaga has no right to meddle in his marriage!  And Nelson Brizz has no right to bring his lover into the house -- a lover who is carrying Nelson Brizz's imaginary child!  Don't worry, Nelson Brizz.  Arriaga is no squealer (chivatón). But Don't mess with him!  You got that?

Arriaga stalks out and Nelson is left with his prissy "Drat!" expression.  [Face it. The guy is a B-team villain.]

The Ikki's share a tender moment on the eve of … something
Something blue -- a garter with a bit of blue ribbon; something borrowed -- a lovely, old-fashioned pearl comb that belonged to Victoria's grandmother; and something given -- a pair of Vikki's own drop earrings.  Nikki will spend this night with her mother.

Beatriz and Francisco meet at a café
She tries to persuade him to look for his happiness elsewhere.  If Nikki can't recognize his worth, she doesn't deserve him.  But Frankie is unconvinced.  He will never stop loving Nikki.

Dawn at the Hacienda
Workers are setting up for the wedding.  Salsero has the house staff lined up when the helicopter carrying the Ikki's and the Ikkiguards is spotted.  The staff applauds.

Estéfano has arrived early to spend some time with Jean Marie.  [Don't worry about Balzac: he is with a friend of Estéfano's and having a grand old time.]  The boys are looking forward to Monday night when Estéfano plans to introduce Jean Marie to Odette.  Estéfano is nervous but also excited that his mother will finally know who he really is.

Guzmán sets his bag down on his bed and flashes back on the romantic evening he spent there with Nikki.  [You remember.  It was a dark and stormy night …]  Arriaga joins him, tries to comfort him.  Guzmán appreciates the effort but feels that Arriaga couldn't possibly understand the pain of an impossible love.  [Arriaga and the people on the Patio know better.]

Lo llamé con el pensamiento
Lili is fussing with some plants on the patio of the hacienda and wishing that Rolando could be with her.  Her phone rings and it is the Boy himself.  Did she summon him with her thoughts? [Please, Lili. Don't go all Opalina on us.]  Does he really have to go away.  He tells her:

Yo soy al punto de cumplir un compromiso de trabajo que no puedo eludir.
(I am about to fulfill a work commitment that I can't escape.)

[The sentimental fool!]

Lili notices he sounds odd, kind of sad.  He says she gives him courage to do what he has to do.  Lili promises she will wait for him to come back.

Outside Beatriz's apartment building
Leo and his crony drive their junker to the curb.  Leo is holding a manila envelope.  The two sleazeballs wait.  For … ?

Inside, Bea is getting ready to take Guillo to the park.  Paula begs off.  She is too tired to join them.  Mother and son leave.  Have fun, says Paula.

The mail carrier drives up and approaches the apartment building with a small bundle of mail; he drops the letters and then gathers them up and hands them to the building concierge. Then Leo sidles up to the concierge and hands him the envelope he has been carrying.  It is for Guillo, he says, the grandson of Paula Trejo.  He takes care not to show his face.  Then he hurries back to the car and he and his accomplice drive away, satisfied.

This is why they call him the Furry Fornicator
Nelson has spent the night with Kendra and now his pale and hairy upper body is fully exposed above the blankets.  He is already suffering buyer's remorse -- what if somebody catches them?  And then … there is a knock at the door!

Kendra, soy Victoria, ¡te traje las alhajas que me pediste!
(Kendra, it's Victoria, I brought you the jewelry you asked me for!)

Kendra smiles and then quickly assumes the appropriate expression of alarm.  Outside the room, Vikki's hand goes to the door handle.  The two inside the room watch (one in horror, one in scarcely veiled delight) as the door handle turns ...

Avances:  There are fireworks at the wedding.  How festive.

NovelaMaven: The title was inspired, the recap replete with wit, humor and poignancy. Simply stellar.

"burning with hatred, lusting for revenge!", "His fellow crazy cackles appreciatively" and "B-team villain" were among my favorites.

I feel compelled to start with Roy's tears. I actually got up off the sofa to move closer, and yes, there they were (confirmed by you NovelaMaven).

So, here is my question: Most of us have been more than willing to forgive Salsero for thievery, kidnapping, and other eveil machinations. Yet we scoff and dismiss Roy, holding him in the same low regard (where Salsero used to be). When you analyze it, Roy's only real crimes are being an opportunistic, vain, lying little twit. Both love good women but why are we completely unwilling to see if Roy can be redeemed?

Thankfully, Vicky stood firm in refusing to let JA go. Even if JA did not know about Kendra and the baby, he would have gotten the better of Nelson, a wining, sniveling coward who hides behind the shield of blackmail. I'm a little surprised Anibal doesn't have Nelson removed. Permanently.

The scariest character to me was Rigoberto in Guapos (anyone remember him??). Leo is coming in a very close second. I literally felt sick when he re-emerged from whatever hole he has been hiding in. Poor Bea.

Enjoyed Vicky and Nikki's bonding over the wedding items (what beautiful diamond earrings)...

From the previews it appears all hell breaks loose at the wedding and that JA and Roy have a "conversation". Oh boy. Can't wait!!!

NovelaMaven, this was excellent. Thank you!

Diana

NovelaMaven - Thank you for the recap. Great snark, too. :-)

Evidently "dos tres" is slang. Anybody know how it would roughly translate?

Wouldn't it just be easier - and a whole lot cheaper - for Anibal to tell Salsero to make Nelson …. disappear? Permanently? (Diana - I wrote this before I even read your comment. Great minds think alike!)

Looks like Roy really has some authentic feelings for Lili.

Nevermind about my "dos tres" question. I figured it's like our "same old sixes and sevens".

Wonderful recap as usual NM. I was happy that they finally moved us on to the wedding. Looks like we get some action tonight.

Diana- I have said since the began this Roy Lili thing that if the writers could redeem Salsero for Bea, they can certainly do so with Roy. I don't like the message they are sending to women in either case, but there you have it. So, just like I am rooting for Salsero to turn himself around in order to be worthy of Bea, I am hoping the same for Roy. I actually have more hope for Roy and Lili since he has done nothing criminal. But when Salsero's crimes are revealed, I'm not sure how Bea will move past that.

Dang, Diana. Does this mean we're going to have to set up a Roy table on the Patio? And serve salmon and champagne at all hours of the day and night? Wait ...

Diana and Doris:
Have you ever known Aníbal to DISAPPEAR people permanently? He plays people and their destinies as if they were tokens on a board (Not chess. More Monopoly.) But has he ever put out a hit on someone? I like to think not ... but I could be wrong.

Doris:
Yes. "dos tres" means "so so", "nothing special." So that's what "same old sixes and sevens" means! :)

Someone remind me why JA doesn't just tell Vicky about Kendra and Nelson. This would solve his, Vicky's, Frank's, and Salsero's problems, in on fell swoop. Vicky would be able to kick Kendra and Nelson to the curb immediately.

"Someone remind me why JA doesn't just tell Vicky about Kendra and Nelson"

Vivi, as I understand it, it's because of The Body Guard Code of Honor (Never divulge secrets you learn about your boss on the job -- or something). The way our boys cling to it, the BGC of H makes the Italian mafia's code of honor -- Omertà -- look positively flexible.

NovelaMaven:

This recap is one of your best, eva! I really liked the title too : )

I was really surprised when Roy cried. I was like Diana, I had to move closer to the TV to see if he was actually crying. I think he really does love Lili. I too hope for his redemption.

FF is just a sniveling, whining, whiner. How dare he???? He's the one that is the cheater and he hasn't paid anything at all for what he's done! He needs a huge piecart like yesterday. I don't want him getting his way at all.

So the he who shall remain nameless shows up again. He needs a good beatdown and he really needs to disappear. I don't care how it's done, he needs to go already. Betty and Guillo have been through enough with him.

I am glad Ms Vikki did not cave about getting rid of the Angel. Good for her.

I liked how the Angel stood up to the FF too. I really liked the way the Angel brought up the Kendho being in the house and also the "pregnancy". The look on FF's face was priceless, curses, foiled again, lol.

I am really hoping that Ms Vikki catches the FF in bed with his Ho. It would solve so many things but then again, maybe not. FF still holds that wild card about Lili being Adri's little Lucia.

Estefano and Jean Marie were so cute. I am dreading this upcoming dinner at Toulouse with the Odious one. I can't wait to see her face!

I hope Nikki comes to her senses at this wedding. I am not looking forward to it. Maybe she'll be the one that says no acepto! One can hope.

Good morning, Mads!

"FF still holds that wild card about Lili being Adri's little Lucia."

What if ... the ADN test is negative BECAUSE ADRI IS NOT ANIBAL'S DAUGHTER! I know it's farfetched, but it would be a great twist. But consider:

If Antonio (Aníbal's oldest friend and Adriana's "father figure) turned out to be Adriana's daddy, then Adri's child would have no biological link to Aníbal.

Aníbal would just assume that Candelaria was lying when she told him Cristina was his daughter.

And the Furry one would lose what little traction he still has in the Balvanera house.

Adriana can still be united with Lili by story's end but just not through Nelson's and Aníbal's machinations.

NovelaMaven:

I do so like your theory. The Godfather has been so much more of a Papa than Anyballs has been to Adri. It wouldn't be a bad thing either. And you are right, FF would be out on the curb!

I too like the idea of Adri and Lili being reunited without the machinations of FF and Anyballs.

OMG, the poop is about to hit the fan, lol.

NovelaMaven thank you so much for the recap, amazingly put together.

Diana- "I had to move closer to the TV to see if he was actually crying." Funny. I lol'd

"Most of us have been more than willing to forgive Salsero for thievery, kidnapping, and other eveil machinations. Yet we scoff and dismiss Roy, holding him in the same low regard (where Salsero used to be). When you analyze it, Roy's only real crimes are being an opportunistic, vain, lying little twit. Both love good women but why are we completely unwilling to see if Roy can be redeemed?"
In my opinion, your point was made and I agree.

Even though I'm hyperventilating like crazy over here (figuratively speaking of course) while watching this, I can't help but look forward to what's about to play out. Lili is going to be at the hacienda where the wedding is going to take place, she's bound to make known that Roy is her boytoy, right? She has to!

I could just knock Anibal and Nelson both on the head one good time. Where did Victoria's mom find Anibal and where did Victoria find Nelson, what did either of the woman see in these men at one point. EH! They're cursed relationship wise, no other explanation, lol.

Mi pobre Guzmancito, I too reflected on the, "dark and stormy night." as he did :/
I keep chanting, "This wedding will not take place." let's see if it works.

I was taken back to see Leo resurface, just when I thought Betty was free of him, pobre. I am worried about what he has planned for her, sounds tormenting.

Out of all the negative, I actually enjoyed the scene with Nikki and Victoria, very mother/daughterly, I just wish it was Guzmancito that she was preparing to marry.

Oh almost forgot I could have definitely bopped Kendra on the head during her scene with Guzmancito. Just saying! Some of ya'll were thinking it :)

Oh and btw, thank you Gringo for your kind words, very much appreciated. I will miss the Caray family too.

Team Nikki/Guzmancito

NM thanks so much for the recap. I knew you would make me laugh. I so enjoyed your rendition of the FF/JA confrontation. FF is such a loser, as Mads said, his piecart can't hit soon enough.

Diana - good question. I think part of Salsero's appeal to me is the actor, yet another telenovio of mine. I also think its b/c though he has made very bad decisions, he had a hard life. Roy becomes more difficult for me to like b/c he (like Nikki) are often brats with moments of humanity. I have much less patience with these behaviors in spite of their youths b/c the bottom line is they know they are being mean to other people to hide their own insecurity.

And ITA w/Vivi too - I don't like the message the TN is sending about the love of a good woman can change someone. I know its a convention in TNs and romantic comedies (the genre I study in the real world) but its still a dangerous message to send young women.

With the reappearance of Leo, one thing is clear. He won't go away until he's dead. Guess that's how Salsero will redeem himself though he might die too, sigh.

Doris/NM - thanks for the lesson is US slang as I don't remember the 6s/7s saying.

Great recap NovelaMaven. It is so seamless and so very funny.

Save me a spot at the Roy table. Bring me some Champagne and lobster, send a couple of those cuties over to peel my shrimp, and go ahead and put it all on the Nikki Table check.

Carlos

NovelaMaven. Great recap. You knocked it out of the park. Perfect title. Some of my favorite lines:

"Lili remembers who she is."

"Nelson, still on a high from the sucker-punch he just gave Aníbal, forgets he is a puny, sniveling coward and he taunts the Angel..."

"He is already suffering buyer's remorse..."

Anibal's weakness is Vickie (and Nikki). He doesn't want to see Vickie disgusted and disillusioned with him cause he tossed away Adriana's baby. He kept Paula away from the family all those years to preserve Vickie’s love for him. Paying off people is his thing, but not having them murdered. At least not so far. Anibal is just trying to buy time with Nelson till he figures a way to squash him. I so wish JA would at least tell Anibal about KendraHo & baby.

I'm not letting Salsero off the hook until he does something deliberate to sink KendraHo for Cris's murder. It’s well and good that he will do anything – maybe even kill Leo? – for Bea, but to me his directing the attempts on his own clients (Vickie and Nikki) is unpardonable. I can't see any of the menfolk forgiving him there.

Agree redemption could be in Roy the Boy's future. Lazy, spoiled, and snobby can be remedied. But I too don't like the message the TN is sending about the love of a good woman changing a man, though in truth I've seen it in real life.

Novella Maiden

Liked your theory of Adriana, Lili and Antonia but not sure if Anibal would have let it go this far without knowing. He seems to check a lot. But it is still possible.
A side note. The plant Lili carried into Anibal room was not I think a Calla Lily. It was a Spathiphyllum: This plant with its shiny dark green leaves produces striking white lily-like flowers all year. Perfect for home or office. Almost impossible to kill.

Thanks for the correction, Anon 11:13. So it was a Peace Lily, not a Calla Lily! Clearly I am no Plant Maven, though you seem to be one!

NM--Your recap is better than the script. The Patio claps wildly.

So much intrigue. This is what I picked out:

Roy tells Lily: I am about to fulfill a work commitment that I can't escape. [The sentimental fool!]

Since we seem to agree that Roy has sincere feelings for Lily, he is actually telling her the truth. Remember, his parents promised that as soon as they could get their hands on Balvanera moooola, he could divorce Nikki. Poor Sentimental Fool doesn't know about Anibal's little talk about money and marriage. It has to stick--Roy had better make her happy.

Poor Sentimental Fool is stuck between a despotic grandfather rock and a protective father hard place. (Lily is not going to become Roy's extra helping of dessert.)

This is the episode where Nelson gets his 15 (or was it 20) minutes in the limelight. His B-villain portrayal was masterful:

...Nelson, still on a high from the sucker-punch he just gave Aníbal, forgets he is a puny, sniveling coward
...Nelson is left with his prissy "Drat!" expression
...He is already suffering buyer's remorse -- what if somebody catches them? And then … there is a knock at the door! [How much more TN Cliche #45 can you get?]

Now, on to read the comments, and perdoneme if someone thought of these first.

Madelaine--FF has nothing to feel guilty about (haha, because he does, but because of the person and not the act).

It's ok for married MEN to have lovers on the side---Anibal said so.

It's NOT ok for married WOMEN under any circumstances (if found out, of course)--take Ms. Betty and her virtue (and Leo's reaction to Salsero Dude).

Thank you so much for the nice words, folks. And may I just say this:

I'm fairly sure that Nelson Brizz was wearing black socks under that blanket last night.

NVMV-I like your script re-write. Unfortunately, it would probably be too complicated and beyond the scope for the current collection of writers. It makes perfect sense--that's another reason why it isn't going to be your way.

Niecie--I agree with you about Anibal's weakness. Apparently his cash is limitless.

Vikki in Tejas--I got a lump in my throat, too when Guzman is surveying the landscape of the almost happening on that 'dark and stormy night.' Most of us welcomed the interrumptus because Nikki wasn't ready for him. After a night with the elotes (WHY couldn't they have made it a visit to a celote) she's ready for Guzman, but not Roy. I wonder if she's going to beg off on her first night as a married woman. What'll it be, headache, the *Visitor*, upset tummy, pretend fainting spell?

Can't wait to see what KendHo is planning and I hope it ends up all over her face and dress, but not the jewelry.

I thought that plant that Lili had was a dieffenbachia. It looked actually like a plant I have in my house. It is a marvel with that white flower, it starts out green and turns white. Mr Mads has the green thumb in our family and I even asked him, and he thought it was a dieffenbachia too.

Anita:

I had to lol at your comment "cause Anyballs said so". Yeah and look who Anyballs is chasing! Candelaria is in the "same class" as the Angel, and Guzmancito. I guess Anyballs feels she is the exception to the rule.

I wish Anyballs knew about the Kendho and the preggers. I can't wait until he finds out. That should be interesting and maybe a one way ticket for FF to hell, ice water not included!

Thanks, NovelaMaven!

I hope the earrings Vicky is lending to Kendra are something plastic from the kids' section at Claire's.

Anibal isn't really going to give in to Nelson's blackmail, is he? It seems to me that Nelson wants this news to get out even less than Anibal does. And he's hardly one to talk about lowly taste in amantes...Kendra is not really even gutter category, more like sewer.

I'm hoping for a huge scandal at the wedding. With so many fuses lit, something has GOT to blow, right? Right?

Today People on the Patio is pleased to bring you an exclusive with El Rollero himself, Rolando "Roy" Pavía.*

*I thought I'd try to share this with you in a comment. I couldn't quite get formatting right when I tried to include it in the recap.

NM: Rolando, thank you for taking the time to join us on the Patio of Lowered Expectations. We know how many balls you have in the air right now … hehe …

RP: … hehe.

NM: … so we are especially grateful to you for being with us today.

RP: Anything for my fans. [Places hand over heart and winks.]

NM: Some on the Patio have noticed that there is an uncanny resemblance between you and Nelson Brizz. Is there any truth to the rumor that you are in fact Nelson Brizz's love child?

RP: NM, I won't even dignify that with a response. To imply that my sainted mother Doris Pavía…

NM: Sorry, Rolando …

RP: NM, time is money. Let's move on!

NM: Very well. Let's talk about those German Girls with Wiener Schnitzel for Brains … you were shtupping them during your courtship with Nicole Brizz, correct?

RP: I'm glad you asked me that. Brunhilde and Hedwig are dear friends. Nothing more! To anyone who thinks otherwise I say Get your mind out of the sauerkraut! ¿Captas?

NM: Er … capto. So tell me about Liliana. Are you just looking for someone shorter than you?

RP: Listen. Sometimes I like to take off my elevator sneakers and relax. You got a problem with that?

[Roy kicks off said sneakers and smirks into the camera lens. No one on set notices when Balzac takes a quick whizz on the Boy's sneaks and then softly pads away.]

NM: But think about it Roy -- even if you marry Nicole Brizz, won't Aníbal Balvanera send you packing when he realizes you can't make his granddaughter happy?

RP: Aníbal is a sick old man. How many sets do you think he has left in him? And then it will be just me and the Balvanera women (hehe). You think I don't know how to play them?

[RP smirks and swings an imaginary racket in the air. Balzac scoots back onto the set, gives a warning growl and then puts his teeth around RP's ankle. RP grimaces and kicks Balzac aside.]

NM: And Nelson Brizz?

RP: Are you kidding? Nelson Brizz loves me. We get each other. Totally.

NM: Explain something -- you can use apples and pears if you have to. You and Nikki used to like each other, right? But now you are using her to get at her family's money. Pardon my bluntness, but many of us on the Patio consider you a lying slimeball.

RP: And your point, NM?

NM: When did you get to be such a creep?

RP: I am not a crook … I mean creep.

NM: Well let's just agree to disagree on that … Moving right along … You really believe that Nikki will marry you? You know she's in love with Francisco "Just call me Brad Pitt" Guzmán, right?

RP: That guy? Are you kidding me? I'm a tennis star, I'm young, I'm single, I act like I have money, I have the right name -- and I wear tight red pants!

NM: And there you have it, folks! Roy the Boy live with People on the Patio! Next week: Balzac speaks!

People On the Patio is my new favorite talk show! I can hardly wait for future episodes!

Julia- "I hope the earrings Vicky is lending to Kendra are something plastic from the kids' section at Claire's." Had me rolling. Too funny!

Also, "I'm hoping for a huge scandal at the wedding. With so many fuses lit, something has GOT to blow, right? Right?" You and me both, something has to happen, too many hidden secrets to not, I hope.

Anita- "I wonder if she's going to beg off on her first night as a married woman. What'll it be, headache, the *Visitor*, upset tummy, pretend fainting spell?"
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the wedding doesn't take place. I imagine Nikki comes to her "senses" and drops Roy like a hot tamale lol. If she does marry him and the thought makes me want to vomit, I am hoping she gets out of dodge with consumating the marriage. The thought of her and Roy together. Eck!

LOL NovelaMaven, loved your interview with Roy, very entertaining. My favorite...,
"NM: When did you get to be such a creep?

RP: I am not a crook … I mean creep."

He's both!

Team Nikki/Guzmancito

"I'm fairly sure that Nelson Brizz was wearing black socks under that blanket last night."

Either that, or he has FF (Furry Feet).

PEOPLE On The Patio is my favorite new Internet Magazine, too!!!!

Julia - OMG, I love, love, love your Calvin & Hobbes avatar. I can't tell you how many of their books I own. I was soooo sad (viz: ~sobbing~ on a 'Paula' scale when their creator retired the series.)
Perhaps we could borrow Calvin's Transmogrifier and turn Roy into a decent young man.

Ay, yi, yi, NM--I haven't even finished the interview and the tears are rolling down my cheeks (not the glycerin kind, either).

About People on the Patio: I couldn't stop laughing, brilliant, from...we know how many balls you have in the air...to...Brunhilde and Hedwig (thx for reminding us of them)...to...I am not a crook, I mean creep...to...Balzac speaks.

Black socks or Furry Feet, another pair of LOLs.

NovelaMaven,

Interesting theory. But a while back, Adriana and Cris had a call-of-the-blood moment when they brushed by each other at the police station in Santa Rita. But I do think the fact that the Godfather was in love with Anibal's wife first, that he never married, and stays close to Anibal despite the fact he's doesn't like all the dirt Anibal’s done means something. I hope the Godfather is at the wedding. I’d like to see him interact with everybody, because we usually see him with Adriana alone or Anibal alone.

NovelaMaven:

I really loved that Roy interview, lol. That line about Roy being a crook, I mean creep, lol. Sort of Richard Nixonish, the crook part that is, lol. And that German girl thingy, too funny. And the names for those girls Hedwig and Brunhilde and the sauerkraut. lol! Oh, and the Guzmancito "Brad Pitt" oh la la!

Victoria in TX:

We really need a wedding interruptus or barring that a no acepto from either one of them. I also can't stomach the thought of the wedding night with poor Nikki and that Roller Boy. I like Anita's ideas for excuses for Nikki. I like the "Visitor" idea it buys her five to seven days at least. Hey, I got to thinking if they never consummate this marriage Nikki has an out for an annulment, but I can't Roy going for that.

Doris, perhaps we could first test the Transmogrifier by turning Nelson into a slug. That's much less of a transformation. Then we can try it on Royero.

NovelaMaven, you may have outdone yourself this time. My thought was "simply stellar," but Diana used that in the first comment. Thanks! My top LOL, Cande on the bus to Alamos as a predictor of her longevity.
Like your idea about an alternate father for Adriana, one who is not a monstruo. She deserves someone better.
To whoever came up with FF, that is one of the most apt nicknames ever.
Clara

NovelaMaven: The interview had me laughing out loud. Very, very entertaining. You nailed it!

Doris, you and I are frequently on the same wave length, and are usually posting around the same time so our comments cross.

I agree that I don't think Anibal has crossed the murder line. Yet. But, outside of Kendra, is there anyone more deserving than Nelson for Anibal to take yet another step into the dark side for?

Karen, ITA - Leo won't be gone until he dies. And however it happens, I couldn't be happier...

Anita, great observation that Nikki is not ready for Roy. She can barely stand to kiss him (and usually does so only when she has to - usually in front of Francisco).

Vivi, you know I am dreading Bea gettting hurt just as you are amiga.

Diana

NovelaMaven---Thank you for such a great recap---many great lines such as, She looks likes a million bucks and she cries so pretty. Yes, Yes and Yes. So true, Nikki did look stunning and she is pretty even when she cries, I just wish that she wasn't so spoiled.

I don't think Nelson knows that Anibal doesn't know. You know.

cus Candelaria isn't exactly the cousin of the Queen of England.

In refference to Leo, The patio people pull their collars up against the sudden chill.

I also liked, Face it, the guy is a B-team villain---and,
Fireworks at the wedding. How festive.

Diana---an opportunistic, vain lying little twit. Well said.

Karen---they are being mean to other people to hide their own insecurity. Another well said.

Now some of my comments. Roller Boy loves the Little Orchid. Que? He barely knows her.

How does Vikki have jewelry to loan KendHo? Didn't she give her jewelry and a big chunk of money away for Tomi's ransom? She must have gone shopping and bought more.

Lili and Adri are growing closer together. Some really nice scenes with them, yet Cris is still very vivid in my mind. Two good mothers,
how lucky for the Little Orchid.

I forsee a dark maybe a death cloud
for Salsero. I hope I'm wrong but is death the way of redemption for him? Bea will be devistated.

Carlos---Can you tone it down a little? Champagne and lobster, cuties to peel your shrimp and give
the Nikki table the tab. I'm going to have a heart attack from to much
laughter.

Victoria in Texas---I told you not to worry. There will be no wedding/
marriage. As you can see from the previews, Boy Toy Roy is going down in flames. I don't know how it will come about, but after tonight, it looks like the door will swing open for the Guzmancito.

Vivi---One final question. Why can't a good women change a not so good man? We see it with Bea and Salsa Dude and I think that the Little Orchid will work wonders on the spoiled, arrogant, egotistical
Roller Boy. Does he deserve her? No, but maybe it will work out for the better in the end---I have to believe.
the gringo

I just spent a few moments reading your comments -- what a witty bunch you all are! I'm glad you liked the recap. As for People on the Patio, there may be another edition if I can line up sponsors. Maybe we can work something out with Meta*Mart.

Because I am so often wrong (though in my own defense, I don't actually predict; I like to concoct alternate universes, take the path not taken), I thought I would shameless stake a claim on Furry Fornicator -- yup, I named him!

I would also like to reframe the "love of a good woman" issue slightly. Here's the question:
Is love transformative?
Those who vote no, I'll see you over on the Telemundo page. :)

NM you are hilarious. I loved your interview w/Roy. Will be waiting with baited breathe to hear Balzac speak.

And fellow caray members fear not, if the unthinkable does happen (Nikki marries) she will simply carry on the wonderfully ridiculous plot of NEVER sleeping with her husband (most recently used in MEPS). While Roy will hate it, he'll play tennis or try to find Lili but JA may have killed him by then ;)

Victoria, I am with gringo - the previews seemed to imply the wedding implodes...this will be the first step in Nikki and Francisco reconnecting.

Unfortunately, Roy is but a fly that simply needs to be swatted. Kendra (who continues to put up barriers) is more like Shelob (LOTR) and will undoubtedly require some good swashbucking from a sword such as "sting".

Diana

NovelaMaven--I want a subscription to People on the Patio.
I don't care what the price is, I must have it, this one is too good to miss. Maybe the Meta* Mart store will carry it. Anita, what do you think?

NM- LOVED People on the Patio! I'm still laughing.

Gringo and NM- You ask an interesting question. Can the love of a “good” woman transform a “bad” man?...No. Can a “bad” person change? Yes. Transformation has to come from within. IMO.

The fact that neither of these truly despicable men had any scruples, remorse, second thoughts, hesitation, or did any soul searching BEFORE they met these two women; and then POOF, as soon as they meet them they develop morals, I just don’t buy that. I would have bought it had either Salsero or Roy been conflicted characters before meeting Bea and Lily. Then they would have had even more motivation to further explore the already existing noble side of their nature after they met these women. But the way these transformations have happened is like magic.

In real life, women too often think they can change a man. They think they just have to be patient and loving, and then he will magically change, because she is the right woman. This tn is playing into that common (mistaken) fantasy. But, it’s a fairytale, so I’ll go with it.

You'd be smart to lock in your subscription now, Gringo. If Karen is right and Arriaga kills Roy, the first issue is going to be a collector's item and the price will go through the roof.

Dear, dear, Gringo. It was not clear if People on the Patio is a hard copy magazine or an e-zine or even a tv entertainment series. We'll do our best to accommodate any and all preferences.

We at Meta*Mart are listos to go into negotiations with the producer.

Meanwhile, I think some clever little techni-crat will post it over on YouTube and NM and we will have to conduct a search and scrub mission.

P.S. NM, did you copyright your work yet?

"NM, did you copyright your work yet?"

Alas, Anita, I did not. I guess the Roy interview is just another piece of junk floating out there in Cyberspace. I may have to shelve the Balzac issue until I have consulted with my imaginary attorney.

NovelMaven,

You had me at "Brunhilde and Hedwig" too. The Roy interview is lol.

I have to admit i am in the group guilty as charged, we have really given Dances the benefit of the doubt and really hit Roy hard.

NM, brilliant interview! who is your sponsor so i make sure i support their business! is it TalMart??

NovelaMaven, what a stupendous, tremendous, hilarious recap. The bonus interview with Roy from People on the Patio is pure gold--or even platinum!

I only dabble with momentary bits of this TN, but I knew your recap would be worth reading. Now I have to watch this wedding episode.

La Paloma

Off Topic:

Calling on Caraymates in the DC-Metro area! Anita and I are headed to a Lila Downs concert in Manassas (http://www.hyltoncenter.org/calendar/242/) this Sunday, Cinco de Mayo, with some amigas but one of Anita's amigas has dropped out and we have an extra ticket. If you would like to attend the concert with us and a few other fun women, please e-mail Anita asap at: almeg "at" verizon "dot" net. I think you can figure out that e-mail address.

I'm rooting for Salsero more than Roy because of attitude. Royero is just such a pompous vapid entitled insufferable twit, with very little to back up his opinion of himself. I've abhored him since we met him, when he swanned in and ordered the staff to bring salmon and champagne *in someone else's house*. He doesn't make up for that by being sometimes funny or considerate, like Nikki does.

Salsero has more to atone for, but at least he has a less delusional opinion of himself.

"You had me at "Brunhilde and Hedwig" too."
Ah Niecie, you're easy! :)

Marta, I was kind of hoping that Meta*Mart would underwrite the project. I'd like to distance myself a bit from Tal*Mart -- I'm afraid it sends the wrong message. Don't you?

La Paloma, it is so nice to see you here! Thanks for the nice words. And yes, you have to go to the wedding. Absolutely. :)

Victoria, Julia, Diana
If Roy were a little more attractive, maybe we'd be more inclined to see him as a candidate for redemption. Oh wait ... that would be awfully shallow of us, wouldn't it.

My dear Carlos,
I don't care what they are serving at the Roy table, I'm going to be hanging with the servidumbre. Oh, and the security personnel.

I think "dos tres" might mean "I give it a 2 or a 3 (out of 10)."

Since I have "Like"d the MetaMart Facebook page, I get all their updates. Looks like they will be the exclusive distributor for PEOPLE On The Patio. Woot! Woot!

Salsero may redeem himself if he kills Leo to save Bea's life, but I have a really bad feeling (read: seeing anvils) about Salsero's future.

I wonder which episode is the boda. Must See TV.

NM, what a fantastic recap! The whole thing was fantastic! I'm late to this recap but wanted to thank you. Tonight should be a corker of an episode!
