Amores Verdaderos #136 Wed 5/22/13 This is only a test!

Well I've got two lovers and I ain't ashamed ♪♪
While Vikki and her old flame, Carlos González, are getting reacquainted in the high-rise luxury apartment, the Big Angel is in his boss's studio, fussing over roses and candles, checking his tie in the mirror and fretting over the time.  It's getting late.  Where is the señora Victoria?  He plays with a blank canvas on the easel and then seems to have an idea.  Smiling broadly, he picks up a paint brush.

Vikki seems to let her guard down.  She gives honest answers to Carlos's questions about her marriage and her family.  Carlos is honest about at least one thing: he still resents Aníbal for the way he was treated twenty-five years ago. But not only does he lie about his work, he plays dumb: Adriana may be working with a Catalán film-maker named Joan Constantín.  Do you know him?  Nope, never heard of him.

Carlos takes Vikki's hand and stands very close to her.  [Too close, buster.  The Patio folks at the Arriaga table don't like this guy one bit.]  It has been so many years and yet he trembles in her presence just as he used to do.  Does she feel the same?  Vikki ducks the question.  She thought he'd never forgive her for not having the courage to chose him over Nelson Brizz.  [Listen honey, he never has forgiven you!]

Carlos goes fake philosophical: Asi se dieron las cosas.  Ni modo. (Whaddya gonna do?)

Vikki needs to be getting home but she'd like time to talk more.  How about a meal together?  Oh dear.  He'll have to wait until the end of the month when he gets paid. And he doesn't have a thing to wear.  No problem.  Vikki's inviting and she'll pick a casual place where they can let their hair down.  In that case, Carlos is in.  He pulls out his cell phone -- the company gave it to him! -- and gives Vikki his number so she can call him to make plans.

As soon as Vikki is out the door, Carlos makes a quick call to Jocelyn, still waiting in the garage to take her friend home.  "Don't tell Victoria anything about me!" he warns her.

In the car, Vikki admits, at Jocelyn's prompting, that Carlos is looking good.  She feels bad that he had to give up his dream of film-making.  Jocelyn, who normally doesn't know when to shut up,  says nothing.

Back in the mansion, Aníbal is teaching Lili to play chess.  (Will Lili show an aptitude for sacrificing pawns when necessary?)  Lili wonders if his attitude toward her will change when Nikki, his princess, is back.  Of course not, he reassures her; and then he reassures himself by confirming that his old romance with Candelaria is still his and Lili's secret.

Down in the studio, we see Arriaga's handiwork:  A cheery   ¡Bienvenida, Sra Victoria! on a field of sky blue filled with a rainbow and a bright yellow sun.  [You're breaking my heart, José Ángel!]

Super Mami may be back in Mexico but Super Nikki is still in the Slough of Despond in Toronto.  She gets a call from skanky Nabila, and dismisses her with a bunch of BS about how super happy and super busy she is.  Then she takes another bite of pizza and runs for the bathroom.  We don't even get the little song.

Poolside at the club in Mexico, Nabila is skeptical about all this marital bliss.  Besides, she's heard that Roy's career is tanking.  Lately, he hasn't won a single game.

When confidence exceeds talent
Roy the Boy is on the court.  He plays aggressively and ignores his coach's advice.  Uh oh.

Finally, Victoria Balvanera comes home.
Polita, Tomi and Jean Marie are there to greet her; JM introduces Georgina, his new assistant.  Aníbal hears the commotions and comes out to welcome his daughter with a hug. And then Adriana bounds down the stairs, thrilled that her sister is home again.  Vikki turns to Adri and asks discreetly: ¿Arriaga no está?

Oh Arriaga is there, all right, wearing out the studio floor with his frantic pacing.  Victoria appears at the top of the stairs.  Arriaga looks up and beams:  Señora Victoria, I've been waiting for you.

The strategy revealed
In the apartment, Carlos tells Jocelyn why he is posing as a wage slave: he wants to see if Victoria Balvanera, the woman who jilted him because of money and family name (dinero y abolengo) is still the same.  So you're testing her, says Jocelyn, somewhat taken aback.  And what happens when she finds out you're a fake?  And what happens if you do get together again?  Are you prepared to give up your life in Barcelona for her?  Why should I? asks Carlos.  Maybe this time she should give up everything for me!

How I missed you!
Arrriaga and Victoria smile, hug and then do it again.  She takes it all in -- the childish hand-painted welcome sign, the flowers, the candles … and Arriaga himself.  She has something for him too, a gift.  He takes the package eagerly and tears away the wrapping.  A leather jacket!  He throws off his suit jacket and tries on the new one. It fits him perfectly.  He's delighted because it means that Victoria never forgot him.  Another big hug.

Toronto Blues
Omar is mad!   Roy played stupidly and injured his shoulder and now he's out of the game for who knows how long. And he's putting some of the blame on Nikki, telling her that her relationship with Roy is spilling onto the court.  Roy comes in, hurting and feeling sorry for himself.  He's ready to go back to Mexico -- maybe he'll find a woman there who will care about what happens to him.  Nikki taunts him for acting like a baby.  They glare at each other.  [So much for brotherly love.]

Ratiana won't admit it ...
But she still pines for Roy the Toy Boy.  She is troubled by an item in the sports pages detailing his latest humiliation:
Roy Pavía salió a jugar otra vez con dos pies izquierdos
(Roy Pavía once again played with two left feet.)

Wound-up Polita, her voice pitched so high, it is surprising that anyone but Balzac (heh heh) can hear her, rushes into the greenhouse, excited over Victoria's arrival.  She is surprised to see Lili looking at the sports pages and reading about Roy.  Lili is so over Roy, she tells Polita.  Now Francisco Guzmán -- that's another story.  Lili feels uneasy about their lie.  Polita is unconcerned.  It served its purpose:  Goldilocks was scared off; and Frankie never has to know.

Liliana's cell phone rings.  It's Francisco Guzmán calling direct from the Big Apple!  Polita dances around, grabbing at the phone while Lili tries to talk.  She tells him about the classes she and her dad are taking.  Frankie doesn't know when he'll be back in Mexico.  Poli finally gets her chance to show off her English:  HELLO FRANK.  I AM POLI.

The Big Angel has a hissy fit
Vikki's plane wasn't late, she tells him.  Jocelyn had a surprise for her: ¡ERA CARLOS! ¡Mi Carlos! Your first love, says Arriaga sourly, tearing off his new jacket and handing it back:  Why don't you give this to your Carlos?  Then he runs out of the studio, Victoria right behind him.

Arriaga retreats to his room and Victoria pushes in after him.  What is she supposed to make of his jealousy?  Didn't he say, four months ago, that they couldn't be together?  Has he changed his mind?  No, he hasn't.  He still feels the same guilt. In that case, Victoria tells him, don't act like a jealous boyfriend and limit yourself to being my bodyguard.  As for the jacket, she bought it for him; if he doesn't like it, he can throw it in the trash!  (He doesn't, of course.  When Vikki leaves, he puts the jacket back on and touches the soft leather.  Sigh.)

Carlos puts on his Joan costume
Carlos has traded his short-sleeved white shirt for a blazer, pink shirt and, God help us all, an ascot.  (The lisp is an optional accessory.) He answers a call from Victoria and she gives him the address of the restaurant where they will dine.

Kendra aims her aggressively bullet-shaped belly at Espanto.
She is feeling testy and isn't happy about waiting all day to see him.  She has a job for him: eliminate Victoria Balvanera!  That woman is standing between her and Nelson Brizz.  She wants her dead.  Espanto reminds her that if anything happened to Victoria, Kendra herself would be the number one suspect.  Kendra has to admit he's right.  But sooner or later, she's going to get that gorda celulítica out of her path even if she has to murder her with her own hands!

The Balvanera Family maintains a Thin Veneer of Civility at the Dinner Table…
Until Nelson Brizz shows up. He is obnoxious and insulting to Vikki, Adri and Aníbal.  What had been a pleasant meal deteriorates into a shouting match.  When Nelson finally leaves, Adriana turns to Aníbal:  Why do you let him get away with it?  Aníbal says what he has said before -- he has a plan!  When Nelson's bastard child is born, he'll be out of this house; and he'll pay dearly for all his offenses.  Neither of his daughters is impressed.  What is Nelson Brizz holding over his head?  Adriana asks him pointedly: Does it have anything to do with my daughter? Victoria asks him to come clean with them; they can help him take Nelson down.  But Aníbal isn't budging.  He insists he knows how to manage things.

Victoria isn't looking forward to crossing Nelson's path in the office.  As for Adriana, she hopes her father is telling the truth -- because if she learns that Nelson is blackmailing him about her daughter, he will spend the rest of his days in prison.  Victoria nods in silent assent.

The filmmaker scouts a location for his latest venture
Joan and an assistant are in an imported foods shop.  The assistant is puzzled.  There's no scene in the script that calls for a setting like this.  Joan will explain but first he has to answer his phone.  It's the Other Balvanera Girl, Adriana.  She wants them to get together, to "break the ice."  How about lunch today?  ¿Hoy? echoes Joan.  Today?  [¡Oy! groans the Patio.  He's toying with both sisters!]  Joan suggests dinner instead.  It's a date!

The assistant brings out the store manager and introduces him to Joan.  Joan has a proposition for him …

Avances:  Carlos González becomes Bachelor Number 3 -- and boy, are Bachelors Number 1 and 2 ever mad!

Thanks for the funny recap NM!

When Nicky insulted his manhood in an earlier episode, Omar didn't say anything and even protected her from Roy because they are his meal ticket. Now that he's lost his meal ticket, he's standing up to Nicky. I guess he figures that it doesn't matter what he says now and he can show his true distain for her.

I don't like Arriaga in this episode. He's kind of being a big jerk. She's suppose to be faithful to him, but they can never go further than mooning over each other.

Guzman, like Nicky is bored and wants his ego stroked by the Guzman fan club president and VP. When Nikki got bored and needed attention, she called Guzman and played with his emotions. When Guzman got bored, he called Lilly and played with hers.

(Will Lili show an aptitude for sacrificing pawns when necessary?)

BAHAHAHA!

I'll have to finish reading this later, but I had to pay homage to that line before I got ready for work.

I just started watching this novela a few weeks ago...around Nicki-wedding time. Reading through the recaps has been so helpful. I'm very grateful for all who do such a wonderful job of re-telling that I can more or less make sense of the story line this far into it. I decided to tune because of Eduardo Yanez who is so very watchable. And truly appreciate that Erica Buenfil is portraying such a credible love interest for him, cast as a middle-ager. Some of the other characters are a bit tiresome. But the one thing I find I have to totally suspend belief in to keep watching is the idea that "Victoria" and "Nicky" would have the remotest possible interest whatsoever in the sad, most-unattractive little dweeb that is "Nelson."

Dona Felipa

Awesome NM! Some many great lines!

I really liked this one for Lili learning chess: Will Lili show an aptitude for sacrificing pawns when necessary?

Notice that when Carlos realizes it's Victoria calling, he answers the phone "Bueno?", when he sees it's someone else he answers "Diga?". Bueno is uniquely Mexican for answering the phone.

NovelaMaven:

Thanks for this most excellent recap.

Some things change and some things remain the same. Ay yi yi, the Angel has a big jealous streak. It wasn't like the one he had with Cris though, this was different. He was so excited, that preparing of the room was so romantic, the welcome home sign was a little cheezy, and clearly he wants to take the relationship to the next level, but overcome by jealousy he just can't. Sigh!!!!

I don't think Ms Vikki is quite into Carlos yet. I think she is really happy to see him and all, but I think if she had been really interested she would have stayed with him longer. Carlos is getting too close for comfort.

I hope Carljoan isn't going to use Adri. I hope that he really did hire her for his movie. As far as hoodwinking Ms Vikki about his "other" life, as Joan, that I think will backfire as someone mentioned yesterday. She won't take kindly to his hoodwinking. I too think that Nellie won't be as big a problem as Anyballs will be when he finds out Carlos is back. I think no matter how much of a success Carljoan is Anyballs will so not have it!

I loved your line about mayhap Lili will have an aptitude for pawns, lol. That chess set was marvelous. I hope Lili never loses her innocence. That call from Frankie just set her over the moon. Polita sure was grabby for that phone and the English, lol.

So Jean Marie has an assistant now. I hope her petit fours are just as good as his. The Patio is getting bigger all the time, lol.

Kendo and her mis planes. They haven't changed at all. The fat cellulite Ms Vikki, eh???? Kendho is growing wider by leaps and bounds, I wouldn't talk if I were her, lol!

Nellie will never change. I'm surprised Anyballs hasn't gotten rid of him by now too. Nellie is insulting and way over the top. And he was trying to be touchy with Ms Vikki. I hope Anyballs comes up with some way to get rid of Nellie sooner, rather than later.

Adri sure has changed! She really is the one that has changed. I like her new "luke", her attitude and her friendship with the Angel and Lili. I can't wait to see Ms Vikki's reaction when she sees them altogether. What will she make of that, Hmmmmm????

NM- You started off my day with lots of laughs. Gracias.

Mads- I'm not so sure JA was set to take his and Vicky's relationship to the next level. He wants things to stay the same- them mooning over each other but not actually having a relationship because of his guilt. built-in think Vicky would be willing to go to the next level, but if he's not, he can't expect her to become a nun. And even if the two of them were in a relationship, his jealousy would still be a bit over the top. It was an unplanned meeting that she had with Carlos, and it's not like they made out or anything. Although, Carlos would have probably gone there.

Vicky and Adri will be mad about the deception. Carlos better watch out because we know what those BV girls are like when they get mad.

Not sure how my tablet turned "but I think" into built-in?! LOL!

Uh-oh! Handsome Carlos is not acting like a man still in love with Victoria. He's acting like a man in revenge. So the idea is to reconquistarla and make her adapt to his life this time? Oh dear!

Well, we know his plan will backfire because he doesn't know about hunky JA. He thinks his only competition is Vicky's failing marriage to that dweeb Nellie. Boy, is Carlos in for a big surprise.

Poor Niki is really stuck now. She's boasted her marriage as "perfect" to her friends, and BoyToyRoy as the super-sweet uber-attentive husband. She's claimed to be happy (enough) to Supermami. She's going to be falling over backwards to keep up the facade when they return to Mexico. Ick! (more torture)

JA looked really good in that leather jacket-- better than in his suit jacket.

Both Roy and Nikki need their mommies. They are like three year olds who have had a long play date with each other, and are now cranky and fussy and in need of a nap.

Vivi:

I concede, I concede, lol. I think you are right, but I think the Angel is more ready than he was four months before. I wonder if Ms Vikki hadn't mentioned Carlos, they would have had a big huge welcoming kiss? And I agree, Ms Vikki would definitely not become a nun : )

NovelaMaven:

I also liked your shout out to Mary Wells : )

Someone had commented that he was unfamiliar with the actor who plays Carlos. I searched my memory, explored a bit, and found that it is none other than Lisardo, who played the evil Augustin Dunant in Cuando Me Enamoro.

Novela Maven - Thank you for the recap!

WAAAAIIIITTTT a minute, everyone! That was not a BigBulimicBarf last night. It was not induced! It was an OMG-I-better-get-to-the-bathroom-fast barf. Nikkie has got to be pregnant from her wedding night roll in the hay (literally) with Guzman! OR ... it could be the flu. She might not be showing after four meses despues, but then neither was Kendra.

Carlos might be a Paul Newman look-alike hottie, but I do not like him nor his lies. Vikki won't, either.

I did not like JA's behavior last night, either. Especially when he gave the jacket back to Vikki. Grow up, dude. He acted more like Cristina than himself. Of course, Vikki did not have to be so quite cheery about telling him she saw her old boyfriend, either.

Just saw this quote on a sewing forum and had to share, because it definitely applies to telenovelas:

"Everybody, soon or late, sits down to a banquet of consequences." - Robert Louis Stevenson

I can't wait to relish Nelson's consequences.

NM, Great funny recap!

I loved it when Espanto (Inepto) told Kendrat 'pon a girar esa piedra' (put that stone to spin), meaning of course her brain, she is so angry and desperate right now that this is the moment she can make crucial mistakes, and Espanto knows this, and he also knows that if she falls, she will drag him with her for sure.

I too considered Polita, Lilliana and mainly JA acting very childish and stupid last night... hopefully Guzman and Vicky will set them straight soon. But Guzman did not do Lili any favors telling her 'te quiero' over phone... yikes! talk about feeding a frenzie...

But Lilli is showing some double standards and double aims... she is sad about RoyFoyToy but on almost the same breath she is telling Guzman she can't wait for him to get back. Does she really want those two in a cock fight?? Poor Roy if that is the case...

NovelaMaven – Terrific recap. Last night’s was a good episode and it’s fun reliving it through your eyeview. “Will Lili show an aptitude for sacrificing pawns when necessary?” blew me away too. My favorite lol: “Kendra aims her aggressively bullet-shaped belly at Espanto.”

I feel for JA. He’s torn in knots from his love for Vickie and guilt over Cris. And Vickie was way too cheery announcing she’d run into “her” Carlos. And JA had been waiting happily for Vickie for a long time. I guess I’m more understanding than I should be because I can get cranky too when someone makes me wait a long time. Don’t know how they’ll handle it on AV, but in real life Arriaga would never shed his guilt, he’d just have to learn to live with it and move on.

Love Vickie and Adriana getting on Anibal’s case at the dinner table. It’s soooo obvio he hasn’t done a thing against Nelson and why. I thought Vickie’s offer to help with the blackmail if he’d just spill the beans was sweet.

I don’t think Miss Vickie is interested in anything other than friendship with Carlos. After letting herself and him down years ago, she’s just probably relieved that he seems to have forgiven her.

Did not like Carlos’s polka-dot neckscarf at all, but the producers must be having fun portraying a documentary film director this way.

Niecie in MD:

ITA with your observation about JA and his reaction. He is very conflicted right now. He may be acting out, but he is tormented by his guilt over Cris and his growing attraction to Vicki. Vicki did not help matters by casually throwing her meeting with "Carlos" in his face. I think she did it to see what kind of reaction she'd get. I also agree, she won't choose "Carlos" for the long term. She may "use" him to taunt the absolutely horrible FF. What a jerk.
FF is overplaying his hand and as much as Anyballs is acting "sin balls" at the moment, the wheels in his brain are turning and I wouldn't write him off just yet. Until then, there is team Vicki and Adriana, who will continue to give FF a run for his money and chide Anyballs. He really shouldn't discount their power!
Someone mentioned Nikki's possible pregnancy, but I don't think she is embarazada, because we are 4 meses despuis and she should be showing, at least a little. Kendho is having a overinflated basketball and por Beatrix is about 5 months along and barely showing. Guess I should tighten my beanie...
As for Carlos, he appears to be a player and I agree his motives are more revenge inspired.
SFChicaBonita

SFChicaBonita:

I so agree with you about Anyballs. He may be acting "sin balls", lol, but he is revenge oriented and I really think when he takes ole Nellie down it won't be pretty. I think he will put Nellie between a rock and a hard place that Nellie won't be able to escape from.

I too don't think Nikki is preggers. I think she may just be upset, it truly was no forced hurling. Since Roy is now injured and maybe a return to Mexico in the near future, I wonder what Nikki is going to do? Can she keep this farce of a marriage up?

NovelaMaven - thanks so much for the great recap. It certainly started my day with a hearty laugh.

Doris - I had the same thought about Nikki being pregnant when she headed for the bathroom! But morning sickness is common in the first three months and almost always gone by the 4th month. With severe morning sickness (hyperemesis gravidarum, like Duchess Kate had) the condition starts early (first month) and usually requires medical care. The timing is off if she's supposed to be pg, but who knows what the writers have in store for us. It certainly didn't look like the induced vomiting of bulimia to me either.

Carlos' lying is about the worst thing he can do as far as Vikki is concerned. I hope she gives him the same grief she gave JA.

Barbara

NovelaMaven, thanks for another marvelous recap.

OK, I've seen enough of Jhon/Carlos to recognize him for the phony jerk that he is. I can't say that Nelson is any better, but she is fortunate that she didn't choose this guy way back when.

Does anyone think that the fact that Adriana is Vikki's sister had nothing to do with her selection as his photographer?

Two words for José Ángel: grow up... but not before you knock that smirk off of Jhon/Carlos' face.

Carlos

Oy, Novela Maven what a great, one-word schtick to hang this episode on. The best line, of course was the reference to Lili being willing to sacrifice pawns--but learning to play chess? It's not that easy and it takes a lot of concentration and memory--but she was probably making Notanyballs happy and spending quality time with him (and setting him up for an either or situation vis a vis having two princesas in the family).

Cynder--ITA, Arriaga is being a big jerk. The mood he set in the studio was definitely romantic. Isn't that what he's been envisioning for the last few months? Then he goes and ruins it with his I want you but I'm not going to take the next step because it makes me feel guilty (ok, ok, plot device so Carlos can make some inroads). Vikki certainly set him straight, even though it hurt her like hell to have to tell him. He's got to 'move' or get off the pot.

Carlos' smooth-talking, charming European manners and good lukes will do nothing for Arriaga's self-esteem. OTOH, Carlos is setting himself up for a long Mad Men fall from grace with his split personality when Vikki finds out about the deception. I hope she doesn't forgive him for that, no matter what his rationale was. (P.S. I cringed at the ascot, too. Maybe it's supposed to be very European, but he can't carry it off.)

How is Carlos going to keep the two women from finding out they are both being played. He *knew* by her name that Adri is a Balvanera.

DF--Perfect description for Nellieson, a dweeb, but a dangerous one. He's like a Sanson who won't let go (Balzac (hehe) is too nice a dog to behave that way), shaking his head back and forth and chomping down on whatever he has between his teeth, be it doggie biscuits, a bone or a shin--then grins at you.

Spare me the Guzmi-Lili convo. He should have been talking to Arriaga or Salsa-Dude. Even a call to Victoria might have been more believable.

So Nikki does talk to her shallow-gals. It seems as though Nikki has tired of them.

I *AM* surprised she hasn't called Adriana--neither of them have mentioned it. Adriana knows her state of mind better than anyone.

So, it's still freezing in NYC, but lovely weather in Toronto. Are the writers looking at the map upside down? Roy was playing out-of-doors, or so it looked like.

KenHo's not dressed correctly for a bun in the oven. Her top is too loose and too tight across the belly--her top should have filled out much more, doncha think? Has she just been sitting stewing for the last 4 mos? Well, I don't feel sorry for her at all--with just Espanto for company. I guess she's been eating a lot of pizza.

Sorry to be so nit-picky, because I *do* love this tn and I want it to be perfect.

Apologies for duplicate sentiments. I see there are many of us on the same wavelength.

If I thought the love of my life dumped me because I didn't have money and position, 25 years later I would want to see how I'd be treated if I still didn't have money and position. But I can’t tell if Carlos is doing this because he wants to see if Vickie would love him for himself or for revenge.

No doubt Adriana could've won the competition on her own, but I think Carlos picked her for the Vickie angle. That’s certainly a sign of ethics slip. So maybe the years have corrupted Carlos. What can I say? -- I'm on the fence.

Carlos – I still think Vickie would’ve been better to choose Carlos. At least 25 years ago Carlos was there for love, not por interés like Nelson.

This comment has been removed by the author.

Villain Agustín from CME made such a strong impression on the viewers, that they may not be able to view guapo Lisardo in any positive light. But so far.....the Carlos character is not looking too promising. Still - waaaaay better than Nil-brains.

About Carlos. I think he may be doing this "hoodwinking" so see if Ms Vikki could still have the same feelings she had for the old back in the day Carlos and also maybe to see Anyballs' reaction. I really think if there is any revenge involved it will have to be against Anyballs. Anyballs probably blackballed Carlos from working in Mexico, so Carlos went to Spain and became this huge film director. I wish Carlos had just come as Joan to Ms Vikki and now try and let Anyballs try anything, because now they are on the same level. He can't blackball Carlos anymore.

ooh. Interesting comments. The Patio is of two minds about this Carlos guy. Me, I don't trust him. He is having too much fun playing at Mr. Humble. It IS going to be fun when he realizes his principal rival is Mr. Salt of the Earth himself, José Ángel. He's going to learn what we and the snails already know: Miss Vikki ain't no snob.

I fear for Adriana and hope she doesn't get hurt in the crossfire.

About Kendra and her bullet-shaped belly:
On Tuesday she said something about being stir crazy in the apartment because she had been told to rest. Maybe her pregnancy is high risk (she said hopefully.)

Vivi, I loved this:

"Both Roy and Nikki need their mommies. They are like three year olds who have had a long play date with each other, and are now cranky and fussy and in need of a nap."

What a perfect description!

Novela Maven---Thank you. The Mary Wells song was great. Two Lovers?

Madelaine---I like Adri's change too. Liked her before but even more now. I can't wait for her to find out the truth about the Little Orchid. That's going to be sweet.

Marta---A cock fight? Poor Roy if that's the case. LOL So true, Roy wouldn't have a chance.

Anita---It's freezing in NY but lovely in Toronto. Is the map upside down? LOL If I had been drinking morning coffee, I would have spilled it on that line--so funny.

Another funny line from Vivi---[you guys are on fire this morning]
Both Roy and Nikki had a long play day and need a nap. LOL

Vivi---ITA, Carlos is in for a big surprise. Going up against JA, he has met his match. All of his money won't put him over the top.

And speaking of JA. If Vikki was holding the jealousy button out for JA, it worked. He's jealous now. Ja will go into high gear by tonight I'm sure.
the gringo

Amazing how in four months they haven't finished installing the curtainwall on that new high-rise in New York. Yes, this is the kind of thing I notice.

Gracias, NM! Loved the chess quip, among other things.

Jocelyn is a terrible person and a terrible friend. How can Vicky stand her? Nikki at least seems totally over her awful old friends.

I think it's time for the Balvanera household to coordinate efforts for a little Nelson gaslighting. Make all his food taste a bit bad...but if he complains, anyone else will taste it and insist it tastes perfect. Put a little itching powder in his clothes and sheets. A bit of Nair in his shampoo. Water down the whiskey. Tailor his clothes in a little tighter so he thinks he's getting fat. You know. The usual.

The usual? Oy. You're scaring me a little, Julia.
:D

The disparity of weather (lasting for four months) between balmy Toranto and freezing New York could be attributed to (a)weather pattern changes due to global warming or (b) the budget was tight and production shot all of Guzmann's scenes on one cold day in NYC and all of Boy Toy's scenes on one warm day in Toronto. I think (b) is the correct answer.
I hope Nikki is with child; it will make her divorce from Roy and marriage to Guzmann all the more dramatic.

Anon@3:05--Nikki is much too 'young' emotionally to have a child now. We hope the writers recognize that before it's too late. If she'd gotten pregnant on her wedding night and it's at least 4 meses despues (+plus the Miami Miami honeymoon), she'd be showing a bit, don't you think?

Of course, b) is the answer, but that's why we snark it up and all have a big laugh about it. The production cast and crew are probably deadly serious about their work and giving us the real locations of the shots. At least we *got* NYC and Toronto and not just fake pictures outside picture windows.

NovelaMaven, devising nefarious plans is one of my favorite hobbies. You may be comforted to know that I *almost never* enact them.

Thank you, Julia. I am *almost* comforted to know that.

Hey Audrey,
Good catch on the Diga/Bueno thing. I noticed the first but not the second.

In the Broadway musical (and movie), Rent, they have an answering machine with the recorded greeting, "SPEAK!" At the time, it cracked me up. I was delighted to learn a few years later, when I started studying Spanish, that people actually do answer the phone like that in Spain, among other places.

Hmmm. Maybe I should start answering my phone like that. It might discourage a few telemarketers and politicians.

With friends like Doris and Jocelyn - who needs enemies! Vikki needs to dump them like Nikki has dumped hers!

Do you think Carlos/Joan might be a match for Adriana? I don't really trust him. He seems to be focusing on venganza but maybe he is just trying to get a feel of the situation with Vikki. Who knows what Jocelyn said to him!

Jose Angel needs to figure this out. Cut line or fish. I know he can do it!

Polita was being a bit pushy with Lily. At least Guzman will be getting the divorce.

Julia,

"You know. The usual.

I just want to reaffirm that however you wish to dot your is is fine with me.

Carlos

Dr. Carlos, I think you're safe. You probably know all kinds of medical methods of torture, plus you're not a drunken petty greedy jackass like some people *cough*Nelson*cough*.

If Polita bugged me like that while I was on the phone, I probably wouldn't have been so nice about it. When is *she* going to mature a little?

Great recap, Novela Maven
Barbara/anon- may I contribute in regarding the preggers dilemma of throwing up. When I was pregnant with my two daughters, I started early in my first month and did it everyday until I gave birth. I didn't know that my condition was not normal for the women of my family kept saying that I just have a difficult pregnancy. Much later on my Ob/gyn discovered that I had a floating right kidney and so when I was pregnant, the baby was bearing down on my kidney and which gave me the nausea and throw ups. Oh well, all's well ended well. What I did then was bore the hardship and just eat before and after because the baby was hungry.

I enjoyed seeing Arriaga jealous of Carlos. By the way, Carlos is really handsome.

The FF is really really annoying. Thick skinned and no shame at all.

Is Guzman an American citizen due to Amber? Is this why he is working in new York or is he a tourist working illegally? Nothing wrong really for me I am just wondering.

Vida2,

As I recall, Guzmán has dual citizenship. He became a U.S. citizen before he met Amber. (AV History Experts -- please correct me if I am remembering this wrong.)

My husband and I love all the special names you have given the characters in this novela. He has a special name for Arriaga, it is "pinhead". What do you think?

Arriaga is the smartest actor on the show, he even has a certain degree of moral sense ,( on that program), which is rare, don't know or care about his real lifestyle, could be totally opposite . Anyway, pinhead wouldn't describe him, but it would the worm of a man, Nelson. Egocentric Carlos is a fathead, suits him perfectly.
