Scenes were re-arranged for continuity......
Elvira figures she's got it made and swears Maria will pay
for what she did years ago.
Meanwhile, Maria sits in her room and.....what else, cries
Los Battling
Bickersons
Ruben and Lorena battle over her failed plan. She's appalled he would dare mention Maria's
name in her home. She blames Maria for
ending their marriage. Ruben sees it differently;
they're the only ones to blame for the end of their marriage and warns her not
to go near Maria again. “Oh yeah? Who's gonna stop me? I'm capable of doing
anything to get that intruder out of our lives, you understand?” Ruben assures her that even if she were to
succeed in removing Maria from their lives, better yet even if Maria didn't exist,
he still wouldn't return to her. He
stopped loving her many years ago. It
would be best if they could just come to an agreement. Lorena swears she will never (jamás!)
grant him a divorce. She'll die
first.
Casa Mendoza
For some reason Maria runs out into the pouring rain wearing
only her robe and rebozo. El galán Jorge arrives draped
in a sarape and they kiss. They
eventually part and he swears his usual cantaleta:
there's nothing between him and Elvira.
Maria just doesn't know what to think.
It almost destroys her to think how he hurts her and breaks her
heart. He urges her to believe him and
wants her to speak to Fernando, he'll tell her everything. For her part, she wants Jorge to understand
there is nothing between her and Ruben.
She only went with him because of her injured ankle, she couldn't
walk! He asks her forgiveness,
again. At last he suggests they get in
out of the rain and he carries her back to her apartment as Que Bonito Amor
plays, again. They pause at the foot of
the stairs to smooch.
They reach the couch and he inspects her ankle. He lovingly kisses her foot to make it feel
better along with bandaging it. He
prescribes plenty of rest then carries her to her bedroom door, kisses her
goodnight and leaves.
Casa Colosso (music in background: Trago Amargo Licor)
Meanwhile, in another much drier part of town, Oscar and
Elvira do some macking of their own. He
wants to know if Maria was pithed.
Elvira assures him she was furious.
That's what he likes best about Elvira, she so canija (naughty/mean). She declares they make a good pair. He knocks her off his lap and tells her not
to talk about couples, it makes him lose his inspiration.
A knock at the door.
Elvira quickly hides in the other room.
Oscar opens the door – it's Gloria!
She utters those 5 words all men fear:“We need to talk!” (In Spanish it's only 3 – tenemos que
hablar) She pleads with him to at least
make the effort to get to know him (Rodrigo).
She pulls out the medalla he gave her at the San Francisco de Asisi
fiesta. Has he forgotten? Elvira peeks out from the other room and
Gloria sees her.
Gloria agrees to leave since he has company. He doesn't ask her to stay. She gives him the medalla and leaves in
tears. Elvira is curious about this
woman and who was she referring to when she suggested he get to know “him”
better. Achis, achis, los
mariachis! None of your beeswax! Elvira asks again about Gloria but he kicks
her out instead. He looks at the medalla
and gets sentimental.
El Siguiente Dia
Fernando and Jorge work on their shoes at Jorge's place. Fernando points out that Del Olmo is a very
influential man with a lot of money.
Hasn't Jorge thought of the consequences of going from brawl to brawl,
drawing attention to himself? No one
knows where he came from and they're very suspicious. Jorge complains he's fed up with that
tipo! That “tipo”, says Fernando, can
cause him a lot of problems. He asks
Jorge to remember he's a fugitive of justice.
How can Jorge forget when his friend is imprisoned for a crime neither
of them committed?
Fernando reminds him it's not his fault his friend is in
jail. That doesn't stop Jorge from
feeling badly. If only he hadn't given
him that 300K car! Fernando is astounded
at the price and wishes he had known Jorge when he was Santos. Jorge responds that would have resulted with
Fernando being in jail. Oh well, never
mind. All kidding aside Jorge must stop
with the brawling lest someone find out his true identity. Especially Maria.
El Lay
Mike continues to profess his innocence to the - warden? The warden scoffs that all prisoners say
they're innocent! Mike explains he's
going stir crazy and needs something to do.
He asks if he can participate in the orthodontic program. Warden gets a call just then and announces
that Mike has a visitor.
Maria and Anita(?) (still can't tell these girls apart) are
on “el micro” (bus). Anita can't believe Maria forgave Jorge yet
again! Maria steadfastly believes he
didn't cheat on her. Anita doesn't
believe this considering Maria caught him with a woman on his lap! Anita wonders what he did to gain her
forgiveness. Maria explains how he stood
before her in the midst of a storm!
Anita's not impressed but Maria thought it was the most romantic thing
she's ever seen. Anita dubs Maria “el
venado” or “la venadita” (deer) cuz
she's never seen such big cuernos in her life!
(remember that in Spanish, when someone cheats on you, te estan poniendo los cuernos).
Jorge's Digs
Jorge waits impatiently for his lady love and she
appears. They smooch as Prudencia's sis
Remedios arrives and exclaims, “Ay, Que Bonito Amor” Jorge introduces Remedios to Maria.
Jorge and Maria head off and we get a bit of culture watching
“concheros” dance as the cathedral bells ring.
They watch a sanador de almas
(soul healer) do his work. El sanador
approaches Jorge and announces that his soul is divided. He's left part of it elsewhere. He must reunite his soul so he can fulfill
his love. Oooooh, spooky.
Maria tends to agree Jorge left something behind in El
Lay. What bothered Jorge most was when
he mentioned the darkness and evil. (was
this part edited out?) She wonders if this is why he finds it necessary to
return to El Lay. Jorge hesitates, hems
and haws when Maria is distracted. She
spots Isabel trying out a scooter (patin
del diablo). Maria scolds her,
telling her she should learn in an enclosed area. Behind her back, Isabel tells her friend to
bring the patin back to her place.
El Lay
Mike continues to ask about the orthodontic program. Warden will think about it but warns Mike
that if he knows about Santos' whereabouts and doesn't say anything, he'll have
2 years added to his sentence.
Ruben's Office
Fabian is fed up with investigating Jorge. Isn't it enough that even a lowly police
employee knows Ruben's rival is a mariachi?
Ruben knows Vargas is hiding something.
Fabian figures if anything, he should be hiding his poverty and
arrogance. What's all this about paying
off a debt of 70k pesos when he doesn't even have enough to die in? Ruben insists he's hiding something.
El Lay
Mike's visitor is none other than Justo. He's very sorry to see Mike in jail. Mike swears Santos is innocent and has
committed no crime. Justo is very
grateful for Mike's continued support for his son. Mike starts singing like a canary and spills
the frijoles that OJGiuliano has been pressuring him to blame Santos in
exchange for his freedom. Justo is
impactado. Mike explains Giuliano is
very interested in incriminating Santos.
Justo later visits OJ demanding an explanation. OJ, you got a lot of 'splainin' to do! Justo tells him he's aware OJ suggested Mike
accuse Santos. OJ can't believe Justo
would believe a convicted felon. Justo
recalls that it was OJ who convinced Santos to flee. He was the one most interested in Santos
evading arrest. He can only think of one
reason: OJ is behind the money
laundering!!! BAM!
Playground
Jorge pushes Isabel on the swing and in between pushes, he
tells Maria that Ruben has separated from his wife and that he's a manipulator. He wonders if Ruben went looking for her only
to tell her about his separation. Maria
admits he came to see her to tell her he's in lurve with her. Jorge, of course, isn't happy to hear
this. He complains about Maria forgiving
Ruben after he humiliated her. Maria
reminds him it wasn't Ruben, it was his wife who was responsible. Jorge is enraged. Ruben should have publicly defended her. Instead he left a check for 20k pesos at the
bar and then declares his love for her!
And then, to top it off, she allowed him to take her home. Maria reminds him she already told him why
she allowed Ruben to take her home. Well,
she's flattered (halagar) Jorge's jealous because he's the man she loves. It isn't worth it to argue over Ruben. Besides it isn't Ruben or Elvira that will
separate them. Sooner or later, he's
leaving. She won't even bother to ask
when because she doesn't want to know.
Isabel, who's been pushed on the swing this whole time (poor kid), tells
Maria not to worry because Jorge told her he would stay on “infinitely”. He
kindly corrects her that he said “indefinitely.
He admits to Maria that his family still hasn't been able to send him
money. She's sure his family will
eventually come through. Their
discussion is interrupted by Isabel who's had enough of the swing.
El Lay
The argument between Justo and OJ continues. OJ is appalled Justo would dare come to his
house to accuse him. If this continues,
he'll have no choice but to sue him for defamation. Justo's not swayed. He won't stop til he gets to the bottom of
this lodazal (muddy place). OJ says he'll consider letting this pass
because he knows how difficult it must be for Justo to accept that his son is nothing
more than a crook. Justo warns him he
plans to get back at everyone who betrayed his son. OJ declares his innocence saying he was also
betrayed by Santos. Justo tells him to
be careful. His son isn't here to defend
himself but he is.
Back at his house in the Hollywood hills, Justo fixes himself
a drink. He tells his wife about his
visit to Mike and his accusation against OJ.
He's sure OJ is involved somehow.
He may not be the head guy but he's involved in some fashion. Altagracia is frantic to go to her son. Justo reminds her that's exactly what his
enemies and the cops expect them to do and thus capture/hurt Santos. Altagracia worries Santos needs their
help. Justo agress to at least send him
some money anonymously.
Still at the
Playground,
Maria worries how she'll suffer when Jorge returns to El
Lay. He promises he'll return to
her. She reminds him how difficult it's
been for him to get the funds necessary to return to El Lay. It'll surely take him just as long to return
to DF. He explains when he returns to El
Lay, he'll have two jobs. Mechanic by
day and Mariachi by night. Ha ha. He buys a rose from a passing vendor. He asks her to think of it as his heart so
she won't forget him. She assures him
she'll never forget him.
It's getting late and she needs to get back to help mom with
Paloma's Quinceañera
dress. Jorge spies Isabel looking
longingly at another girl's light up sneakers.
Jorge calls her over and pretends they're going to play with the
“tablet” her mother bought her. The
light-up sneaker girl looks on and is bugged a little to hear they have a
tablet. Maria doesn't think these lies
are a good idea. Blah, blah, blah.. Jorge and Maria kiss good bye. Honestly, making out in front of a bunch of impressionable
young girls, tsk, tsk.
A Boy Named Sue
Mancia looks on as Susano croons to his broom and heaves a
huge sigh. She's sure that's the sigh of
love! Ay, ay, ay!
B&B Internet
Jorge visits the internet cafe and sees the video mail from
his parents. He's so sad for everything
they're going through. Mom urges him not
to come back. They tell him they're
sending money on another e-mail (wait, wouldn't this be sufficient evidence
that they’re helping a fugitive? Sorry,
my beanie slipped for a second)
El Lay
Curtis and Derecho go through their usual silliness and
discuss Santos' possible sentence once he's caught. Usual waste of time
End of Part I
================================================
Part II
Casa Mendoza
The Mendoza ladies are working on Paloma's Qunceañera dress. Paloma enters and reminds them she doesn't
want a fiesta or a dress. What for? She doesn't even have a chambelán! It was all a stupid dream, just like the
dress......and just like everything!!! (teenage angst, ugh)
A Boy Named Sue
Susanito waits outside Irasema's door with a large bouquet of
flowers. His idyllic bubble is burst
when she arrives and asks QTH is he doing here? He's confused and wonders if
it's the flowers she doesn't like – he'll buy another, more beautiful
bouquet! Better yet, they can pick one
out together! She asks if he's spoken to
Jorge. She tells him to scram and find
another who will love him. He doesn't
want another, she taught him what it is love someone (and a few other things,
wink, wink). If it's something he's
done, he'll change. Anything, so long as
she doesn't leave him! She tells him he
hasn't done anything wrong. She just can't love him. Life didn't give her that
option (permission). She's sorry but he
needs to find his way and borrowing the phrase and title of a Mariachi Top 40,
she says “Ojala Que Te Vaya Bonito.” She leaves him standing outside. He's sad—boohoo. C'mon, Susanito cannot end up with a hooker.
Casa de Reyes
Gloria tells Rodrigo there's nothing wrong with being a
chambelán. He's worried everyone will make fun of him. (burlar)
Gloria thinks otherwise. Everyone
will be envious of him because he'll be dancing with the beautiful Paloma. He finally confesses he doesn’t know how to
dance. In the age old custom of all
telenovelas, sitcoms, and 50's TV shows, Gloria gets him up to teach him the
Quinceañera Valz
Casa Mendoza
Across town Paloma cries her little heart out. Maria hates to see her so sad and tells her
she shouldn’t give up on her dreams.
Paloma cries that Rodrigo was part of that dream and without him it's
all meaningless, waaah! Maria reminds
her she still has her sisters and Mom.
They'd give their life for her.
Paloma doesn't think it will be the same. Maria assures her fiesta will be everything
she wanted, and more. She tries to make
her laugh and succeeds in convincing her party must go on. She tells her the most important thing is
that they're all together. Everything
else will sort itself out. Isa and mom
come out to join the crying fest.
Casa de Reyes
Gloria continues the dance lesson only now they're doing kind
of a quebradita dance. He twirls her
around and she becomes dizzy and has to sit down. Rodrigo becomes really worried.
Sullen Susanito
The dejected Mariachi walks aimlessly down the street and
risks getting run down. He thought
bubbles again about what he could have done wrong. Is it possible he could be......? No, no, no.
Irasema is in her apartment having her own pity party. She looks at her withered flower arrangement
and says, “Marchitas, como yo!
(withered, like me)”
Next we see Susanito on top of a building near Garibaldi
later in the evening. He will never fall
in love again. Irasema is his life. He looks down and sees her walking. His only purpose in life now will be to
remember her.
Irasema is having her own thoughts and how difficult it will
be to go on when she thinks of everything she could have had with him. She apologizes to Susanito for having destroyed
both their hearts.
Casa Mendoza
Isa and Mom share a torta Azteca (great recipe for this by
Marcela Valladolid on Food Network, just sayin') Isa is telling her about her day w/Jorge and
Maria. She doesn't understand why Mom
doesn't like Jorge. Mom says in the end
it doesn't matter how she feels because sooner or later, he's leaving anyway. Isa thinks it may be sooner cuz she heard
them talking about it.
Rebeca arrives and Isa goes rushing out to meet her. Amalia tells her it's ok if they're going to
jump rope (saltar la rueda) for
awhile but warns her not to leave the vecindad.
Isa meets Rebeca on the stairs and she's brought that darn Patin de
Diablo (ruh-roh). They go out to the
sidewalk so she can learn how to ride it when Ruben drives up. The girls hide from him so he won't snitch on
them. They wait until he's out of sight
they go looking for a downward slope so it'll be more exciting (double ruh-roh). Isa takes off downhill and wakala! We hear a
car horn and we next see Isa thrown on the floor.
Tragos de
Amargo Licor (played when Gloria came to Oscar’s door)
clavado
en este rincon
como tu clavastes a mi corazon
estos tragos que tomo yo
son pura tristeza
y son mi dolor
te fuiste no se por que
yo se que me querias
y se que me adorabas
por si acaso quieres regresar
te voy a esperar te voy a esperar
tragos de
amargo licor
que no me hacen olvidar
y me siento como un cobarde
que hasta me pongo a llorar
te fuiste no se por que
yo se que me querias
y se que me adorabas
por si acaso quieres regresar
te voy a esperar te voy a esperar
tragos de amargo licor
que no me hacen olvidar
y me siento como un cobarde
que hasta me pongo a llorar
