PEAM # 39- The Return of the Prodigal Employee to Avon!
Labels: Manda
We now know he is very manipulative, owes Rog, and appears to have an unconsummated thing w/Susana. It's not entirely clear whether he is as unscrupulous as his soon-to-be-SIL. And your observation about him (knowing about Patimelt), TJ, is another reason to think ill of him.
I know this TN is a comedy but sometimes the jokes aren't that amusing though I know some of this is cultural. But Rog's affair, his ace-in-the-hole (Alma's dad) through obligation or blackmail, and the bad combination of meanness and ineptness makes me want his anvil to be a bit harder and more immediate. I mean he got Elias fired darn him.
I hope Elias gets over Vero quickly especially since she doesn't love him. And I really hope Chucho stops Xochi the clown. As confident as Rog is that Chucho & Xochi will congress, I'm confident Chucho will have to stop the madness. I just hope its not a temporary break-up b/c her silliness are FF moments for me.
As Alma's PA, I hope Chucho does not have to wear a silly uniform again.
I am really liking Elais and Marta as a couple, he deserves better than the Ice Princess.
Thanks for this awesome recap. I really liked the title too : )
I too don't know about Alma's Papa. He has a real soft spot for Susanna as I think she does for him. Hmmmm...
I am glad that Chucho is back at Avon and Alma's PA. This should be fun, except for Rogue of course, who will try to sabotage everything Chucho does.
Jess teaching Xochi about the deed and whips and costumes, hmmmm..... This could be quite funny.
Poor Elias. I really think that between Elias and Chucho maybe they can save that apartment and become roommates, if Elias doesn't go back to Vero. So how is Elias going to support Vero in the manner to which she is accustomed to?
Poor Ricardo and Cardenas. Too fools in love with the wrong women. Maricela is using poor Ricardo as transportation and Jess doesn't have a clue about what Cardenas feels for her. I wonder how this will play out.
Ferny is doing some backsliding. I wonder how long it will take for him to give up going to the light?
Just when you thought he might be okay, Alma's father Sebastián is turning into a real slimeball. I wonder if he is the previous lost love Susana mentioned or just another opportunity for a fling.
The combination of Jesús having had enough of Xochitl; and adding to that costumes, props and Jessica's suggestions, will make for an interesting encounter between Xochitl and Jesús (if the promos are accurate.)
Jarifa
I wonder if Rogue got Sebastian a black market heart and that's why los Montemayor feel indebted to him.
Julia- Maybe Rogue gave Papa Sebas HIS heart...he doesn't seem to need one. :)
I'm already cringing thinking of Xochi coming on to Jesus with costumes and whips. Shouldn't Jessica start out with less advanced lessons like: how to NOT act like an obsessed ninny with your man; how to look like a woman, and not like a repressed owl; how to stand up straight and walk with head high, so as not to look like Quasimodo. That would all be a good start.
I also think Fernando is in for some disappointment in the bedroom tonight. Somehow, I don't think Discua will be THAT grateful that he stood up for her. By the way, I love that Rogue can't remember her name and kept calling her Biscuit or juáever. LOL!
Alma not only got Jesus a 10% raise on the secretary salary, ALL of his salary is going to come from HER salary. This way, the company isn't losing money by creating a new position. Alma doesn't want Rogue or Jesus to know that the money is coming from her salary, and told Cardenas to make something up about finding some extra money elsewhere in the budget. Alma's salary must be pretty darn huge to be able to make it into two people's salaries, or she has plenty of her own cash and doesn't rely on her salary to live on. In either case, that was really sweet of her to do.
Calling on Caraymates in the DC-Metro area! Anita and I are headed to a Lila Downs concert in Manassas (http://www.hyltoncenter.org/calendar/242/) this Sunday, Cinco de Mayo, with some amigas but one of Anita's amigas has dropped out and we have an extra ticket. If you would like to attend the concert with us and a few other fun women, please e-mail Anita asap at: almeg "at" verizon "dot" net. I think you can figure out that e-mail address.
Julia -- a black market heart. LOL
That Alma is as devious as her dad -- but for Good and not for Nasty. Her idea of paying Jésus' salary by deducting it from her own pay is very sweet. I fear that it will come back to bite her late when either Jésus or Rog find out. (Cardenas already almost let it slip -- not the person I'd trust with a secret.)
Xochi taking seduction lessons from Jessica. Scary!
I expect to be cringing as much as I'm chuckling when I see that.
Chatita reminds Elias that he still loves Vero. I'm sorry to hear that. Chatita usually has such good instincts and I would like to see Elias free of the ice queen. But this is TN-land and there may be a big melt in the future. Maybe they will end up happily ever after.
So now we know (Sort of) why Alma is sticking with the plan to marry Rogelio even though she doesn't tingle at his touch. Her family owes Rogelio big time. Did I understand that he had something to do with procuring the heart for Papa's transplant as well as somehow recovering the Montemayor (sp) fortune?

I can't even with the get up Xochi dons...I suppose this is the comedy part of the show? I agree Chucho will gently shut her down, but he needs to shut this whole "boyfriend" thing down permanently. Gone on long enough. He is so ethical, prove it.
With every episode I want to just hug Elias more. Well, besides the fact he's hot, but this guy so needs a break and some positive love. I don't fault Chatita pointing out he still loves Vero, because he does, but he needs to hook up with someone to realize that maybe his love for Vero is not the end all love of his life. Cue the therapist.
But can I say it broke my heart at how excited Val got at the idea Elias may be moving home? Again, get the Bromance Brothers in a fixed up apartment and let her spend time there. She deserves a nice positive germy environment and a bowl of Chatita's stew.
Speaking of stew, I was inspired and am whipping up a big pot tonight myself. The thought of a big bowl just made my mouth water last night. Chatita, meal planner!
Daisy
I guess the caption Lady called in sick or is working in shifts, because what she started translating as ''something bird'' (don't remember), then was ''hummingbird'' (which is definitely not cucurrucucú but colibrí) and now is ''pumpkin''.
PUMPKIN?? Like in Pumpkin Pie? Like in Thanksgiving pumpkin? C'mon!
She even translated ''osito'' (teddy bear) as pumpkin too!! This new Caption lady is not too interested in being accurate, is she?
Insert cell phone commercial here.
See the new phones Licenciada? They do this and that, and have a very low cost per minute everywhere, just 75 centavos! They might even have a Jacuzzi app but I can't find it!
Two things made me laugh really loud tonight and that was:
Seeing Verónica dressed IN WHITE for yoga (not that I wanna see her bony self in a leotard- but isn't more comfortable?)! She reminded me of a Derbez character who despite being a peace Gurú, always ended up very angry and breaking things (see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoZKX2zHN5M), and Fernando organizing his COMDOMS? Three for every day! One-two-three Monday, one-two-three Tuesday, etc.
How many does he think will need with Discua?
I would like to try Chatita's CALDO DE RES. Looked Truly Scrumptious!
Xóchitl reminded me of that old hen
Prissy, who was always after the Rooster Foghorn, remember?
I missed Pati and some of Biscuit's winks, but here is the vocabulary:
Estar salado (being salty)- Have no luck
Operación de caballo (Horse's surgery) -Major surgery, big, dangerous
Hacer changuitos (make monkeys)- twisting the fingers for luck, some people twist the legs and arms too for more kick!
Next time on Hulu, I will check the brand and the size!! LOL!
At first I was thinking maybe Rogue saved him from being executed for some crime, but I don't think they have the death penalty in Mexico (?). However, if Sebastian had had a gambling debt or some other problem involving vengeful gangsters that would get him whacked... hmmm...
That's what I would say if I weren't wearing my logic-proof beanie.
I don't love captchas, but they're a little less obnoxious now that we don't have the blurry photos of house numbers any more.
Can't wait for Xochi's imagined deflowering, should be really funny.
I thought it was
quiquiriquí = cock-a-doodle-doo
but don't know how it fit into the context.
I don't think the "costume" is the makeover I have been forcasting for Xochi.... Mari or Susanna, will guide her for that.
Pablo, back in the day, a condom would get in the way on someone as "virginal" as Discua (The Incan Goddess) claims to be. Maybe he is protecting her from him?

Your writing is always clear, crisp, factual, to the point, lucid...a great attribute not just as a recapper, but when you're a school administrator. I'm sure people can actually understand your memos and directives... and alas, that is not always the case in educational circles.
Do you mean the Incan Godess was only partially virgin? I don't get it (actually, I do, but what I get is way too dirty for this blog, LOL)
I absolutely want Elias and Chucho to become roommates for so many reasons: 1) It will be easier for Valentina, 2) He needs a friend and he and Chucho liked each other from the beginning, 3) Chatita gives good advice, and 4) Elias needs a good, strong role model of someone who won't wimp out around Vero. I think this will be his only hope of getting Vero back; he's just been too accommodating. Oh, and a date with the lovely psychologist would make Vero jealous and that wouldn't hurt either. (Although I find Marta kind of scary. Not sure why.)
Pablo...Prissy? YES!!! You nailed it amigo. Good one.
Vivi, your concert sounds like tons of fun. I sure wish I could join you guys. I love Lila Downs, she has such a beautiful voice. I missed her concert last time she was in San Francisco, but it got great reviews.
Thanks again TJ.
- I would grab you and kiss you, yes I would. Oh sorry, that’s Alma speaking.
- Everyone scatters like roaches back to their desks
- According to Susana, their love would be impossible, so since it’s a novela, let’s see.
- Jessica guarantees her work. Funny, it’s not working on her.
Very funny comments today, too. You guys are on!
Interesting thought yu had about the way that Rogelio saved Sebastian's butt could have something to do with gambling debts. That would mean a mob connection. That could tie in with Uri. It'll be interesting to see what all this is about.

First, "cuchurrumin" or "cuchurrumino" appears to refer to the one-eyed green creature from Monsters, Inc. Kind of a term of endearment, I guess.
They also used the verb "ningunear" to describe Paty being rude to Xochi at the restaurant. Literally, "to nobody" someone or to treat them like dirt.
Was Fernando really organizing his condoms? Somehow I totally missed that; too funny. I suspect he won't be needing them anytime soon if he sticks with Biscuit.
It was really generous of Alma to create Heysooos's salary out of her own, but since he got them the mysterious certification which I still don't remotely understand, but which apparently means enough of a financial difference that Orion was willing to give three 1 million peso bonuses, she should have been able to justify taking him on just on that basis alone. They keep Fern and Jess around, and they do NOTHING for the business.
This is the first time I see the word Cuchurrumino, and I don't think I have heard it in the TN. I will watch juárever episodes they have on Hulu and comment later... Thanks for pointing that out!
It all depends from what side you look at it.
They translated ''naco'' as peasant. What means only one thing, this Caption Lady is not the one from the Victorian Age, but from the Middle Age!! Lol!
I don't blame her, since there's no ''nacos'' in USA, what other word could she use, right?
Pablo, I think "naco" in English would be something like "trashy" (adjective) or "rube/prole" (noun.) There is also the term "low-life," but that usually implies a lawbreaker, whereas "naco" just seems to be someone with no class.
I have an old TV set and the computer monitor, that also serves as a TV.
I use the CC3 just for fun, because I speak spanish, but since this is a blog in english, I started reading what some people here were reading, to relate. I started making fun of them and then I started adding the vocabulary.
I have fun trashing the Caption Ladies, because they are so nonsensical! I wish you all could understand the original language, because most of the time, stuff gets misinterpreted, misunderstood and simply ''lost'' in translations. On the other side, I am glad, because of your interest in this spanish spoken TN.
I usually don't like most of the stuff I watch, and this time I am having more fun with the captions than the TN itself. I am happy to share with whoever is interested, the little I can offer.
The reason I mentioned the TV was because in the old TV I can only get captions in spanish, and in this computer monitor the captions in english. I tape the TN on Wednesdays in the bedroom, while I watch it here on the computer, then I run it again to recap it.
Then I go to Hulu and see if I missed something...
And you thought Verónica was the only one with the OCD?
