PEAM, Tuesday 5/14/13 (#47): Woof!

Chucho finishes the latest installment of the fairy tale with Valentina: The queen is going to marry the bad guy, and her helper is invited to the wedding! Val recognizes that the helper will be sad, and suggests that he should try to get the queen to marry him instead. Oh, you crazy kids, with your hi-fi record players and newfangled ideas!

Paty tells Rogue her price for not sending Alma that video of him and Jessica: He has to take her to the ranch this weekend. (He's getting married the weekend after that!) From now on, he has to treat her the way she deserves. (He replies sarcastically.) And he can't fool around with that trollop (Jessica) any more. Also, he must beg Paty's forgiveness, and say it like he means it. Louder! And on his knees! No, she's just kidding about the knees - but he will have to apologize again, in bed, right now!

Valentina begs Chucho to stay overnight. Vero agrees to let him spend the night in another room. He really doesn't want to, and says he can't because he didn't bring any pajamas. Vero says that's no problem: he can wear some of Eli's. He doesn't want to do that. Then Val says it's only fair: she stayed at his place, so now he can stay at her place! She pelts him with porfas until he relents. She asks for another episode of the fairy tale, so he tells her about the wedding gown. Now it's time for bed. She says a prayer of thanks for letting her daddy stay overnight.

Speaking of daddies, Alma's dad calls Rogue to let him know that Alma's looking for him, to thank him for the creepy bunny with the tulips. (Why isn't she trying his phone? Duh??) Patymelt distracts Rogue; Sebastian can tell something's up. Sorry, poor choice of words. "Are you with someone?" he asks. Rogue says that's just his dog! He whispers at her to bark like a dog. She obliges with enthusiasm.

Is Alma really looking for Rogue, though? She's in bed, dreaming that she and Chucho are dizzily confessing their love to one another in a swirl of happy pink graphics. Then the graphics go black and blurry as Rogue and her father confront her. She wakes with a jolt, calling his name.

Paty wakes Rogue for another "apology."

Chucho checks out Vero's guest room. It smells funny. There's a note in pink paper on the bed: "Sweet dreams, my love." Eck. He drops it. Vero comes in wearing a very short robe and tells him she left soap, towels, etc. in the bathroom and also sprayed something to freshen the air. (He indicates that he noticed the smell.) She says he can stay as often as he likes! She's made mistakes, but now they and Valentina can be together as the family they are, just like old times when they were novios and it was so great. He says she was different then. She asks why he didn't fight for their love! (See what she did there? She made it his fault again!) When she got pregnant she was alone and frightened and became panicked and neurotic, worrying that she wouldn't be the perfect mother.

He tries to comfort her, but doesn't seem to know exactly where she's going with this. She says it was a mistake for her to marry Eli. She needed a man in her life.

She kisses Chucho goodnight. He is confused.

Cardenas toils in his secret laboratory. He is pleased with the results. "Beautiful! I know that hurt, but it was necessary. You're becoming something spectacular. You won't even remember this dark place where you were dead..." There is a knock at the door. He calls, "I'm busy, Mom! I'm on my way!" He leans over and kisses a sheet of glass (we see from the other side of the glass).

A robot's eye? A repaired TV screen?

Morning. Mari, Chatita, and neighbors sing Las Mañanitas to the Virgencita.

Eli comes home and meets Chucho on his way out. Again, Eli does not let Chucho explain. Val catches them fighting, and they pretend they were "playing." They engage in some forceful hugging and back-slapping to support their claim. Minerva serves Val and her two dads breakfast (Vero is nowhere to be seen). Eli asks for eggs with chorizo and frijoles. She reminds him they don't have any chorizo or oil. He and Chucho both ask for cereal; I learn a new word: "copión" (copycat). Eli asks Valentina why Chucho stayed the night! She complains that he wasn't in her bed when she woke up. "That's because after you fell asleep, I went into the GUEST ROOM!" Val sees the tension between them, but isn't sure what it means.

While Paty uses the bathroom, Rogue tries to crack the password on her laptop so he can destroy that incriminating video. (One of his password guesses is "Rogelio is a god.") Then, while he uses the bathroom, she takes some money from his wallet. The perfect couple!

At the gym, Paty amuses herself with a fantasy of telling Alma all about her and Rogue last night, but instead hears about the creepy bunny-tulipgram. "I think he's trying to re-seduce me," Alma says. "And it's working!" Tomorrow they'll have their premarital counseling at the church. Paty is annoyed enough that this time, it is SHE who moves on to exercise at another machine. Alma doesn't follow. Paty calls Rogue and announces a change in plans. She wants to go to the ranch TODAY. He has no choice but to agree.

Paty returns to Alma in an especially good mood. She tells her friend that everything is going her way today. Alma congratulates her, but doesn't press for details.

Eli and Chucho walk Val out to the bus and argue over who loves her more. (If she plays her cards right, she can use this to get a lot more Payaso-brand swag from both of them!!) After she gets on the bus, Eli declares war on Chucho.

Chucho checks in with his probation officer (Delia?). He's still a little worried about Yuri being in town. Delia says she already warned Yuri not to mess with him. Chucho is also thinking about his daughter's well-being, but hopefully Yuri will forget about him soon. Chucho has to check in with Delia again in a couple of weeks. (That could be like four months for you and me...)

Yuri is working out with dumbbells (iron weights, not fellow inmates) in his cell. 800+ arm curls... I think he's ready to go up five pounds, don't you? He's red and angry and he hasn't forgotten Chucho yet. He's remembering their first meeting in high-def, full color, and stereo. He stops abruptly at 2300+ reps. Slacker! "Damn you, Jesus Garcia! You'll pay dearly! I will OWN you!!"

Chucho stops by the neighborhood with a bouquet of roses for Virgencita.

Chatita lectures Mari about her love life. She dumped the one guy in favor of a married man with money. The thing is, now Eli doesn't have a job. "But he's so guapo," is Mari's excuse. Guapo with no money! Speaking of which, Chucho is at the door. Chatita notices he's wearing yesterday's clothes. "Did you already have breakfast at Alma's house?" He tries to shush her. Chatita replies, "We both know she's more than just your boss!" "Well, now all THREE of us know!" Chucho says, indicating Mari, who retorts, "Oh, like it's such a secret! And if you like her so much, why are you seeing Xochi?" But both Mari and Chatita are impressed to hear he spent the night at Vero's. That suits Mari just fine! "That leaves Elias free to date me!" Chucho shakes his head disapprovingly.

At Avon, some of the secretarias and other staff say a special prayer to Virgencita. Afterwards, Xochi tells Susana that Chucho defended her to her mother. "Oh, did you finally Do It?" asks Jess. She has a big piece of gossip and is miffed when they don't ask her what it is, but with a little prompting, she gets Susana to ask. Jessica says the marriage between Rogue and Alma won't last long. "It turns out that Rogelio..." but she doesn't get to finish, because Rogelio finds them in the break room and tells them to get to work. He tells Jess to bring him a double espresso with no sugar.

Pánfilo and his partners-in-trash are sweeping the sidewalk outside Chatita's place. Do they sweep all of Monterrey? Manually, with brooms? Never mind. Mari sees them and - get this - introduces Chucho to her father. Suddenly, however, Pánfilo is seized with pain in his leg. But he's just fine. Why, he just checked his diabetes the week before last and it was fine! He doesn't want to go to the doctor and lose his job.

Mari steps away to take a phone call, and Pánfilo tells Chucho this is the first time she's ever showed any concern for him! He's wondering if Chucho will talk to her about not letting herself get swept away by a ricachón (fancypants rich guy).

At the office, Alma thanks Rogue for the creepy bunnygram. Jess is waiting for him in his office. He questions her about what she was going to tell Susana and Xochi just now. She reminds him that he promised her a better job last night. He'll mention it to Cardenas today. As for "us," there is no "us." Last night was a mistake, and he's going to concentrate on his future wife.

Cardenas and Chucho talk about starting an exercise program for the office like they do in Japan. Chucho suggests some relaxing music, too, and a place for people to change their clothes. Chucho also adds, for no apparent reason, that Jessica will like this.

Chucho sees Rogue go into Alma's office. Chucho arrives in her doorway just in time to see her kissing the guy she's planning to marry. The nerve of some people! But maybe he's just imagining the worst...

Next time:
Chucho pairs with Alma for the daily exercises, and someone takes a picture! Xochi partners up with Julio (Orange Tie Guy).

You know it was an uneventful episode when I'm including details like Rogelio's coffee order, and even then it only comes out to two pages!

Well, well, well... looks like is not Nov 8th anymore... for some reason (Julie knows better) the time continuum has warped and from November the 7th one day, the next was December 12th, day of the Holy Virgin of Guadalupe!!! Huurrayy! Let's sing to her a capella!

Such a long night Jesús has spent with Verónica, no wonder why Elías is so mad!!
Because Jesús, looking for the three feet of the cat (makes more sense in spanish) left his common sense at the door and stayed the night at Verónicas. Knowing all the trouble laying ahead.

Then el viejo metiche, Alma´s dad, who hired the creepy mute bunny is manipulating juárever he can to quicken her daughter's wedding.

If there's been only seven years, I don't understand why Fernando Colunga and Claudia Alvarez are not playing themselves when they were ''younger'' and instead are showing us a very blurry past out of focus. Maybe the meaning is that seven years ago they were using psychotropics and/or mushrooms? How can you explain that chinese shadows inside the tent? I was expecting to see more than I should, like in those LAMPOONS movies!!

Add to that the dizzy nightmare Alma had where she is being chased by all the men in her life, who are in the way to her true love: Jesús! Please throw me a barf bag, I am getting dizzy! One thing is ''don't give up'' and another different this bad executed quagmire!!

Being this a very important day, shouldn't the garbage squad take the day off so they can go to Church and pray to the virgin? I was also shocked when I saw Pánfilo SWEEPING THE SIDEWALK BY HAND!!!! Exactly OUTSIDE CHATITA'S HOME!!!!
What are the odds!!

After that rip of the time continuum that made a weird leap in time, I was not surprised when Ury was counting his dumbbell exercises and jumped from 800 and something to 2,000 and something. Julie, could you also explain that? Thanks!

Tomorrow I will be recapping the ACTIVE PAUSE episode, where Jesús one more time gets in trouble for doing what he shouldn't be doing.
This is just a TN, but is driving me crazy! Please help!

Perhaps it was a slow episode, but the recap was entertaining! Thanks, Julie.

This question pertains to recent episodes. Here, and in a few other TNs, the wedding preparations are taking place very close to the date of the ceremony: invitations are delivered only a few days/weeks ahead of time; the bride is shopping for her dress with no lead time, etc.
What gives? Is the the way things are done in Mexico, or only in the land of the TNs?

In the land of make-believe...

Real weddings are planned with care, but here, another weird thing the people is doing, is getting married in Acapulco, inviting all the office staff, like they can afford to travel from one side of México to the other just for their bosses wedding.
So not real!!

Julie:

Thanks so much for this fab recap.

This epi was really fluffy and funny. Rouge and Patymelt just crack me up everytime they are together, and ya know I think Alma could learn some manhandling from Patymelt, lol.

Poor Panfilo. I hope his leg is ok. That man sure works hard and for once Mari was honest and introduced Chucho, even though Chucho knows who her Papa really is. Also she was concerned about his leg.

Pablo:

I just knew it was the Virgin of Guadalupe Day. So maybe they will have Christmas coming up soon. I like how they sang La Mananitas to her and brought flowers. I really like seeing these cultural scenes.

So will Jess get her promotion? I think Rogue will blow her off. I like how Dona Susana mimicked her too funny.

I also don't like Mari thinking about getting Elias. The girl was so good at giving advice and now she has thrown all that out the window. She will regret it I think.

I can't wait for the exercise session tomorrow to see what happens!

Oh, and what a bad idea to spend the night it was for Chucho. We all thought Elias would show up and so he did. I can understand Chucho spending the night for Valentina though. I just wish Elias would just shut up and listen for once and hear the real story about that dinner.

Pablo:

I think maybe Vero and Chucho were hippy dippy back in the day. Maybe that's why their flashbacks are all mushroomy, lol.

Thanks, Julie for a great recap of a slow episode!

Paty's imitation of Sansón and her lifting money from Rogelio's wallet were the highlights for me. So maybe she does keep her klepto treasures in that drawer after all.

Alma needs to pay attention to her dreams if she isn't paying attention to the advice of all of the people in her life menos papá and Rogelio.

Jarifa

Well... my guess is that Osorio is cutting corners doing things cheaply. That and the lack of respect for the time (other TN take in consideration letting us know how long has been between scenes) proves it.
Today I watched half of CI (now that CdL has ended, I can resume watching TBBT (the big nbang theory), and saw how good it feels when you know exactly when is everything happening! I think I will keep watching it from 6-6:30pm because la india María is saying dichos that I wanna hear. Today she said:
''Even though we all are from the same clay, potty and cup are not the same''. The original doesn't have potty, but griddle.

Aunque todos somos del mismo barro, no es lo mismo comal que jarro.

Here is how I'll explain Yuri going from 800 to 2300 so fast: he's not very good at counting!

I don't have any advice to help you cope with the rest, except to maybe reinforce your beanie with another layer of tinfoil.

Oh, I hated the shadows in the tent. How do I know one of them wasn't that bunny? It was impossible to tell.

Thanks Julie, I agree that you make a slow episode very funny with your descriptions. Paty was probably the funniest with her dog growls and insatiable appetites all night and even early the next morning. No wonder Rogue can't give her up. But she is starting to be more trouble to him that she may be worth.
Does Panfilo have heart problems or a clogged artery in the leg? I wasn't paying close attention to that scene in fact had to rescue a boiling over pan when they met up with him. I am glad that Mari is finding more people to trust so she can be herself more of the time.

Thanks Julie. Your recap was fun.

Panfilo mentioned diabetes. i suppose that will be the explanation for the leg pain but it's not symptom I'm familiar with.
s
The best part of tonight's episode? Valentina and Paty (surprise.) That little girl has such an expressive face. She was adorable as usual. As for Paty she always shines. It does appear that she is a klepto.

I also enjoyed the fake play/fight and the fake niceness between Elias & Chucho.

Güera

Yeah, I thought with diabetes it would be numbness of the extremeties and not pain in the upper leg, but I don't know much about type II diabetes and even less about type I.

I think my favorite scene, surprisingly, was Chatita at breakfasr. She remembers what Chucho wore yesterday, but then she forgets why she's going to the kitchen to get him some coffee? Right... actually, I can relate. In her case, it could be a symptom of sleep deprivation. Sleep apnea?

Rogue and Alma would not be the first couple either in fiction OR in real life to plan a so-called "destination wedding" that no one can afford to attend. I have a friend who, as a starving college student, couldn't afford to go to the Bahamas for her sister's wedding - and the sister was offended. Weddings do strange things to some people.

Ah Julie...my favorite line from your recap was:

"He is confused." [Chucho]

Yes, that is what is bugging me so much. My macho, decisive, intrepid swashbuckler has morphed into a timid, confused soul.

That aside, I'm loving the raunchy Paty scenes and the sweet Valentina ones.

And Pablo, thanks for the "Aunque todos comos del mismo barro, no es lo mismo comal que jarro." Sure hope I can remember it and use it soon before it travels on through my brain and out into the stars.

Favorite part of the credits, Cardenas' wink. Have you all noticed it? Absolutely sexy and diabolical. Totally superb. If he ever winks at Jessica that way, I think she would fall at his feet...or wherever else he wants her to land.

Stellar recap, Julie!

Favorite lines:

Oh, you crazy kids, with your hi-fi record players and newfangled ideas!

[Alma] and Chucho are dizzily confessing their love to one another in a swirl of happy pink graphics.

Paty wakes Rogue for another "apology."

[Vero] asks why he didn't fight for their love! (See what she did there? She made it his fault again!)

If [Vale] plays her cards right, she can use this to get a lot more Payaso-brand swag from both of them!!

- 800+ arm curls... I think he's ready to go up five pounds, don't you?

Funny about Uri being bad at counting, too. I just assumed it took him 1200 reps to complete a thought. :)

Did you notice that Vale was whimpering like a dog when she was begging Chucho to spend the night? I guess it works!

It may have been an uneventful episode, but the recap was DELIGHTFUL. I loved all the lines Blue Lass quoted, too.

My favorite part was Pati imitating Rogue's grumbling and juárever. I am very entertained by the way she jerks him around. His password guesses were pretty funny, too! I guess he does not lack self-esteem. Too bad he can't transfer some to Xochi.

How does The Only Trash Collection Crew in Monterrey have time to sweep the sidewalks, and if they are sweeping the sidewalks, why aren't the residents tipping them enough to live comfortably?

I know some people purposely have distant weddings specifically so that all the people they feel obligated to invite won't actually attend. Then there are the ones with the oversized egos who believe that everyone should travel wherever to enable their fantasy plans. I don't think Alma actually expects all her employees to make the trip. She seems like she'd want to keep it small and intimate. Although since it is a telenovela, maybe they'll all find some way to get there. Except Xochi, who will conveniently be on her prize trip with...someone. Julio? Marisela? The cafeteria worker who makes the carrot cake?

Tks a lot Julie

Since when does the garbage collector sweep the streets? There is a truck for that. Garbage collector isn't such a bad job anymore. They drive up, the truck picks up the can, the truck dumps it, the driver drives off. I bet the pay isn't bad either.

If that rabbit had appeared at my door, I would be sure I was going to be murdered.

This the side of the TN that doesn't educate, but misinforms.

For dramatic purposes, Pánfilo

a) had to be a garbage collector man
b) pick up everybody's trash despite the area where they live
c) be friends with all of them
d) sweep their sidewalks

In real life, at least in Monterrey, everybody has to keep clean their own sidewalk.

The difference between type I and type II diabetes is type I is usually diagnosed in children, although MTM, Mary Tyler Moore, found out she had type I when she was 33. Type II can occur in children, usually due to obesity, more commonly found in adults. There are no symptoms, usually you are diagnosed when something else happens, like heart attack, fainting, chest pains and they run the blood work and find it. The key to controlling Type II is diet and exercise. Panfilo is getting plenty of exercise, but his diet is not great. After what they showed him eating with Maricela, that is so not good for him. He'd be better off with Vero's diet. The pain in his leg concerns me cause remember when he was on that ladder and his leg was giving him problems? He could have stretched something, and being diabetic it will take him a much longer time to heal.

Julie: loved the recap. Very funny--unlike the show.

Loved Vale's expressions when her two dads were talking/"play fighting". I don't think she was snowed by it.

The dream scene with Jesus and Alma spinning around was very awkwardly done. Usually, the couple stand still, while the camera spins around them.

I don't know why the adults keep trying to fool Valentina, like she's a gullible idiot. Haven't they figured out that she's the smartest person in Monterrey? Chucho and Elias would not have fooled anyone.

Valentina and Chatita.

I'd go to Acapulco with the guy who makes the carrot cake!

I'm not sure if I totally got everything out of the conversation between Chucho and Vero last night. I don't understand how he can be confused by her attitude at this point, nor how he can allow it to continue, but he seemed genuinely surprised when she said marrying Eli was a mistake. So it does appear that Chucho's been disturbingly slow to realize that she thinks they've reconciled. Like he wasn't already having enough trouble with Xochi! How can he keep letting this happen?? Where's my beanie?!?!

Yes, Judy, this role definitely is not playing to FC's strengths. But he at least looks like he's having fun and not taking it too seriously. I thought he looked miserable through a lot of STuD, so this is still an improvement over that.

I was on recapping duty for QBA last night's episode and didn't have a chance to comment today on PEAM. Thanks, Julie. In my estimation, it's moving along--never a problem solved before a new one appears on the horizon. So many mis-steps and mis-understandings to keep us going for a long time. To our health! And may our beanies not wear out.

Ahoy Miss Julie! Sorry for the late comment; haven't had Wi-Fi for the past couple of days. The episode might have been a yawn but your recap was a hoot. Your great sense of humor and remarks always make me laugh. Thanks amiga.

"Sebastian can tell something's up. Sorry, poor choice of words." Bwahahahahaaaa!
