Qué Bonito Amor #21 (Mex 31-32.1) Monday 5/13/13

Capitulo 31: Qué Complicado Amor

Lo del pasado

El Bartono and Fernando talk about the refusal of the money, which he thinks to be false pride.  Lourdes complains about her miserable life to a friend.  Oscar brings Elvira to his place.  They are separatin Maria from El Pochito [¡Salud!]  Booty call.  Jorge Alfredo continues playing Romeo to Maria's Juliet and they swear undying love [Por dios, that ladder looks dangerous].

Lo de nuevo

Balcony: Maria tells Jorge Alfredo she will not accept the job Ruben offered. He tells her that he feels lost without her. Mas besos, then Jorge Alfredo slowly rides away on the pretty white horse. [Ladies in Viewerville are now really wondering about those kisses.]

Mendoza Apartment: Amalia is singing the same old song about how Jorge Alfredo – like all the other mariachis – will break Maria's heart. She goes on about them being the most unfaithful. [We understand that her blindness is making her more anxious, but Maria is an adult.] Paloma wakes up at this one and asks her mother what she means by this.

Musicians' Dressing Room: Apparently the guys lost 20,000 pesos ($1,650 USD) by Jorge Alfredo ripping the check into smithereens. Even Fernando looks like he is about to lose his cool over this. But he doesn't. He releases Jorge Alfredo's lapels and tells him not to worry about it. They and El Bartono have a drink over it.

Mendoza Apartment: Paloma persists and Almira tries to short-circuit her enquiry by saying that Pedro was an excellent father. However, that isn't enough and Maria presses her by saying she doesn't want to repeat her story. Almira decides to spill the frijoles. First, though, she tells Maria she should accept the new job and be done with the musicians. However, Maria tells her she won't. Almira comments that she is doing this because of Jorge Alfredo, then decides not to talk at all and turns in. [Almira, now you're just being a bitch.]

Next Morning

Mendoza Apartment: Maria puts Isabel's breakfast on the table and asks Almira if she would like hers. No answer. [Someone needs to make her understand that this passive aggression is not only bitchy, it's childish.] Isabel asks her if she wants breakfast, only for Amalia to say “Tell your sister I don't want anything.” Isabel gets annoyed, says this is very childish, then leaves. After she leaves Maria tries to get Amalia to talk, but it sounds like Amalia took parenting lessons from the likes of Gabriela or Rosaelena. She goes on about turning down this job for Jorge Alfredo who is unworthy of this sacrifice. Maria tells her this is not the case, but the phone rings just as she is about to tell her. It's Gloria, asking Maria if she can come over to meet her mother to get to know her and besides, Rodrigo is dying to see Paloma. No classes today. Maria is delighted, then asks Gloria to bring a photo of the person she is looking for. Paloma enters just as Maria hangs up the phone. She tells Paloma that Gloria and Rodrigo are coming over; Paloma rushes into the bedroom to beautify herself. Almira is not pleased. She doesn't want to be seen in her “useless” condition. She insists on going back to bed. [All over Mexico and los Estados Unidos millions of eyes are rolling.]

Doña Prudencia's Apartment: We hear an old record in the background. Jorge Alfredo pays his rent and she invites him to dinner. She's going to make a fabulous chicken soup, like her aunt once made for Pedro Infante. She goes on about having met him when her aunt worked in the movie theatre that showed his films way back when. She starts to cry.

Hernández McMansion: Lourdes looks for Elvira, who is not in her room. She says to herself she has to get Concho to fire Jorge Alfredo immediately.

Oscar's Bedroom: Of course we knew that Elvira would be there, with him, in his bed. He embraces her while half asleep and she wakes up to the sunlight screaming. [No, Vampira; he doesn't have a coffin with a lid to protect you from it.] She screams out “Why didn't you warn me it was getting late? My parents will kill me!” He's not too concerned about this, rubbing his eyes and suggesting she make breakfast. Petulantly, she gets up and heads to the kitchen while he turns over on his side to get a few more z's.

Hernández McMansion: Lourdes is now in the study, freaking unnecessarily about Elvira's whereabouts. She finally sits down and looks at a childhood photo of Elvira, remembering how happy her husband was when she was born and what a pretty and happy child she was. [Meanwhile we are wondering if these are memories or revisionist history.]

Oscar's Bedroom: Elvira walks back in, throwing the contents of the wastebasket at him, then exits. He gets up wondering what's wrong with her. “Hey, where are my eggs?” [Oscar, someone should have warned you that this is what you get for taking up with a nouveau riche spoiled brat.]

Hernández McMansion: Lourdes wonders what happened to that sweet child. She starts to cry, thinking she wasn't a good mother or she wouldn't be getting colder every day. “What did I do wrong? What wrong decisions did I make?” [We'll spare you the list.]

Don Concho's Office: Mirna realizes they've been busted. He was sure they had gotten away with it but there was that other time when they were almost caught on the staircase. Mirna decides this means they should keep their distance from each other for a while. He doesn't like this, but she doesn't give him a chance to say anything, exiting and closing the door behind her.

Mendoza Apartment: Paloma asks Maria about how their father made their mother suffer. Maria tells her there are things she can't tell her. Paloma figures out that this is about Jorge Alfredo and Almira's assumptions. A knock at the door and there are Gloria and Rodrigo with a cake she baked. Gloria suggests to Rodrigo that he take Paloma out for an ice cream; Paloma begs permission from Maria, who gives it. The two kids leave as Maria pours coffee. They start talking and Gloria notices the professional photo on the wall of Maria with the band...and Oscar. Ominous music for the discovery. “¡No, no; no puede ser!” She takes the photo off the wall. Maria realizes what is up here as Gloria tells her that Oscar Fernández is the father of her son. Maria asks if she is sure and she takes out the photo to show her. “Not only is he the father of my son, he is the love of my life.” [Pobrecita. And we really mean that.] Maria asks if she still loves him and Gloria says she doesn't know but she could never forget him because he was her first and only love.

Los Angeles

Restaurant: Arnold and Giuliano discuss money over vino. How are they going to get ten million dollars? They need money pronto. Giuliano finally ponders getting it somehow out of Bruno's “familia politica”, meaning he's not merely content to ruin Santos' life, but that of the rest of his family.

Garza Mansion: Derecho and Curtis are trying to get Justo to allow them to see Santos' business files regarding shipment and receipt of cars to his dealership. However, this is not legal. They tell him about the arrest attempt in Mexico City. [They're trying to trick him.]  Altagracia seems to see something here that Justo doesn't. [Not sure about the specifics of this conversation.]

Fernando's Apartment: He's strumming the guitar pensively, almost as though he were caressing a woman. A knock later Jorge Alfredo is there commenting on this. “I don't know what you love more, women or your guitar.” Fernando makes a comparison between the two.

Gangster's Home: Roxana is trying to sneak out, but her husband is prepared for this. As she descends the stairs he and his goons stop her. He tells her she is his wife and therefore belongs to him.

Fernando's Apartment: He reads out from a notebook a poem or lyrics; not sure which. It is so elaborately praising of the beloved that Jorge Alfredo decides he had best take his leave. Fernando, laughing, stops him. He explains that women are his passion, only to get the question about what he plans to do about Roxana. He plans to find her and bring her to the pension. [Get real, Fernando!] As for Jorge Alfredo, he plans to find the musician Antonio, whom he can question about Pedro Mendoza.

Mendoza Apartment: Amalia sits in the bedroom, crying over “Ave Maria” as she prays to the Virgencita. Meanwhile in the living room, Maria comments “What a sad story” [that we are still not yet privy to]. Gloria tells her that she and Oscar loved each other intensely.  Rodrigo has no idea she is looking for his father and she had never spoken of him to Rodrigo. She now desperately asks Maria to take care of Rodrigo if something happens to her(self) and Oscar doesn't accept him. She starts to cry as Maria promises to do so. But... Maria tells her that the best thing to do now is to tell Oscar. He has to know he has a son.

Public Park: Paloma and Rodrigo eat ice cream cones. We find out that each is the other's first novia/o. A beso that looks like they've been watching movies to learn. [¡Qué dulce!]

Street: The other male virgin in our tale buys flowers from a street vendor. [We don't need to be told he is doing this for the first time.]

Don Antonio's House: Fernando and Jorge Alfredo arrive and are greeted warmly. There are numerous photos of actors and musicians on the walls. They sit and he says “I know that one day someone would come to see me to enquire about Pedrito.” He talks about what a great voice he had and what a great mariachi he was. He had a bit of the wanderlust [pata de perro]. At Jorge Alfredo's inevitable question he tells him that Pedro had eyes for no other woman than Amalia and his family was everything to him. His heart beat to the rhythm of her name. Jorge Alfredo is relieved to hear this, but Don Antonio asks why he's interested. Fernando tells him “He's the son-in-law”, which prompts Don Antonio to say “Take good care of Maria because if you don't, like her father, she may wander.”

Doña Prudencia's Pension: She sings as she puts the mail in the slots and El Muchacho Se Llama Su enters with two flowers. She teases him about the flowers being for her, but he asks if she can deliver them. He kisses her on the cheeks and she comments to herself that he is loco over Irasema.

Hernández McMansion: Elvira tries to sneak in, but Lourdes catches her and demands to know where she was all night. Before she can even invent a good lie Lourdes jumps to conclusions and accuses her of having been with Jorge Alfredo. She then decides to ground her. “There are rules in this house and you will respect them. If you don't like them, you can leave. I think you will listen.”

Oscar's Apartment: The rooster crows and Oscar asks him what to do when the woman in his life doesn't even prepare his breakfast. As he touches the bird's beak his cell phone tweets. It's Maria, who urgently needs to see him. She's coming to his place; it's urgent and she doesn't want anyone else to hear. He's really excited about this but only because he has no clue what's coming. He expresses his excitement to the bird, who starts pecking (but not seriously). He teases the bird that if he hurts him he'll make soup out of him.

Street: Paloma and Rodrigo walk together when a soccer ball falls in their path. He gives it a really good kick and it goes really far into the playing field. Two guys who recognize him as the new kid at school come out to compliment him on the kick and make nice. [We suspect that the fact that Paloma was impressed was more important to him.]

Fernando's Apartment: He's sitting down with his beloved guitar when Anita arrives. After some nonsensical stuff about her burning pain and him asking if she ate something too picante she tells him she can't sleep. He offers her some money to see a doctor about this but she tells him he is the reason she can't sleep. She hates him because she loves him. He's caught a little off guard for a second. He tells her this is the most beautiful thing ever said to him, moves in to kiss her, but stops and withdraws from her. This is too weird for him, as he is a philanderer. She can't possibly be in love with him.  She gets impatient, finally pushing him aside before she exits.

Somewhere Outside: El Muchacho Se Llama Su lifts weights with Jairo, who teases him about Irasema. Su goes after him just as Jorge Alfredo arrives. Jairo tells Su it was only a joke, but Su isn't laughing. He walks away. Jorge Alfredo decides to follow him.

Street Outside Fernando's Apartment: He decided to follow Anita out and lo and behold she walks right into the street in front of a black vehicle. It stops on a centavo, but just as Fernando gets there out come three goons in the employ of Roxana's husband. One of them holds Anita back while the other two grab Fernando and haul him inside the stretch vehicle.

Street Near Pension: Jorge Alfredo follows Su who at first doesn't want to talk to him or anyone. Jorge Alfredo tells him “I don't know whether you like women or not but I want to help.” “I'm ashamed.  Yes, I like women,” Su replies “But I've never had one because don't know how to approach them. I'm afraid of making a mistake. And the worst of it is I've never been alone with a woman.” He hopes that Jorge Alfredo will not tell anyone.

Inside Mob Vehicle: Fernando is shoved inside by the bald goon. Roxana is there with her husband.

Oscar's Apartment: He lights a candleabra full of new white tapers [In the middle of the afternoon?] and adjusts the vase of flowers. The only thing he really has wrong here is his clothes [The jeans are OK but that hat has to go]. The doorbell rings and he's at the starting gate! He admits Maria, who tells him she didn't come alone. He asks if it's El Pochito [¡Salud!] and she says “no.” Gloria enters and Oscar sees her. Cara de impactada de Oscar to some norteña music to match the hat.

Capitulo 32, Part 1: Caras Impactadas

Oscar's Apartment: He recovers, greets Gloria, and says “What a big surprise, come in.” She goes to the other end of the room and notices the candles. Maria comments that he must have been waiting for someone. He tells her that he was waiting for her, dueña of his heart and the mother of his (future) children, etc. Gloria is a little embarrassed; Maria is peeved as usual about this and shakes her head. He seems to catch on that something isn't right.

Street: Jorge Alfredo talks to El Muchacho Se Llama Su, telling him not to worry. When he meets the woman he loves all will be well. The poor boy tells him he doesn't understand; “I don't know what it is to be with a woman. There are times I feel a sadness so profound I want to die.” Jorge Alfredo tries to get him to talk to him as a friend. Su explains he has never been able to talk about this before, but says he knows that Jorge Alfredo will never make fun of him. “Of course not,” Jorge Alfredo tells him. “It is not a sin to be chaste. It's a virtue.” [casto] “How beautiful,” Su says, ironically. “But I want to die! I can't stand entering that building and enduring the jokes of others. I don't want to be a virgin!” Jorge Alfredo stops him from shouting any louder and tells him it will happen all in good time. He finally calms down, but only enough to not risk any public embarrassment.

Inside Mob Vehicle: The stretch SUV [That is one automobile muy fea] interior is the scene of an ugly confrontation in which Roxana's husband tells Fernando that Roxana is his. Meanwhile his bald goon – who vaguely resembles a henchman of a James Bond villain or the mute assistant to a mad scientist – has his arm around Fernando's throat.

Oscar's Apartment: Gloria is surprised, but Maria quickly explains that she is not Oscar's novia because her heart belongs to another. He is quick to tell her that this will change, but she gives him a searching look. He goes on a little longer about how he will win her heart sooner or later, then acknowledges Gloria. She asks him if he knows why he never saw her again. Maria tries to bow out to leave them alone to talk, but Oscar tells her she has no need to be jealous; it's been 17 years. They have nothing to talk about. “Women are incredible. They never forgive or forget.” Gloria tells him he's wrong; she forgave him years ago and never forgot him. She couldn't because he was and always was the love of her life.

Inside Mob Vehicle: Fernando must have huevos muy grandes because he goes on about how Roxana's husband mistreats her, even calling him a coward. The guy grins back with his arm across the back of the bench seat as the bald goon roughs up Fernando. We do not see Roxana's face during this; her hair falls forward. We can guess why. The capo laughs at the word “justicia” and motions for his goons to remove Fernando. They drag him back out of the car.

Oscar's Apartment: He is getting more uneasy by the minute, but says it can't be possible after all these years. Most women aren't like that. “I know I'm unforgettable but – “ Maria stops him, asking why the hell doesn't he just listen. He claims there is nothing to listen to and how could she [Gloria] want him back after all these years. Gloria said she never forgot him because although she wanted to it wasn't possible. He's still not willing to listen, but Maria gives Gloria a look of encouragement. She asks if he remembers the last time they were together. He says he does. She finally tells him that she became pregnant and has a son. “I have a son of yours. His name is Rodrigo and he will soon be 16 years old.”

Street: The goons drag Fernando out and throw him to the ground before driving away. Anita looks concerned, but Fernando has toughed it out. They start toward the sidewalk.

Oscar's Apartment: He is quite incredulous, asking how she can look him up after 17 years and tell him he has a kid. She wouldn't have because he has her surname [No coincidence that it's “Reyes”] and doesn't know who his father is. However now it is important for him to know. She has no one else who can care for him. He refuses to deal with this. [Oscar, Oscar, Oscar, do you realize that by saying this you have permanently wrecked whatever chance you thought you had with Maria?]

Park: Paloma and Rodrigo sit on a rock while he reads a poem to her from the screen of his cell phone. Two dreamy kids so different from their parents. She talks about her quinciñera again, saying she wants to be dressed like a princess for her chamberlain of her sueños. They get up and he tells her she is the prettiest girl in the world. Beso. Cute song for their currently drama-free situation.

Oscar's Apartment: This is probably about as low as he has sunk so far, accusing both women of dropping a meteor on him, stabbing him in the back. Maria doesn't take this, telling him he'll be sorry for those words. He accuses her of lying. She tells him she never lies and if Gloria came it's for – Gloria cuts her off there, saying that if Oscar won't accept Rodrigo she will have to accept that. “Let's go. Let's get out of here.” She walks out the door. Maria gives Oscar a very dirty look before following Gloria out with ominous music to follow. Oscar speculates on whether this story is an invention, but then pauses and asks himself if this is true, then how? [Don't you remember sex ed, muchacho?]

Avances

Santos is followed by Elvira and has a confrontation with Amalia.

Lyrics

Hay Unos Ojos

Hay unos ojos que si me miran
Hacen que mi alma tiemble de amor
Son unos ojos tan primorosos
Ojos mas lindos no he visto yo
!Ay!, quien pudiera mirarse en ellos
!Ay!, quien pudiera mirarlos mas
Gozando siempre de sus destellos (?)
Ojos mas bellos no he visto yo.
Y todos dice que no te quiero
Que no te adoro con frenesi
Y yo les digo que mienten, mienten
Que hasta la vida daria yo por ti.

Note that this may contain lines or scenes edited out of tonight's broadcast. It didn't go far into the next episode so be prepared for more missing material tomorrow unless it falls behind.

Thank you, UA--I don't know if you've saved me some time or not tomorrow, but I see some exciting avances. This is the screwiest put-together broadcast, ever. G'nite, see you all later in the morning. Will read the recap now, though.

Anita, La Dama del Queso....and there was plenty of that in your episode.

Urban:

Thanks so much for this marvelous recap. You got absolutely everything!

I liked the talk that Jantos had with The Boy Named Sue, I like the Spanish name you put in there. Who knew the poor boy was a virgin, but then again, I'm sure his Mama has kept him on a short leash.

Amalia is becoming over the top. I like Isa and what she did. That little girl has gumption. Amalia needs to stop feeling sorry for herself and do something. That snitty fit in not meeting Gloria was terrible. Gloria would have compeletly understood, considering Gloria's own circumstances.

I didn't like the way Oscar just blew off Gloria. How heartless is he? And your right, he blew any chance he may have had with Maria. He's already met Roddy once, even though he didn't know who he was. I hope they meet again.

Was that a real musician that Jantos and Fernando went to see?

I think Altagracia wants the cops to look at Santos' bidness. I think with her faith in her son she believes they won't find any irregularities.

Oh, and also liked that older pic of Oscar. I wish he would wear his hair like that, instead of all slicked back : )

I'm playing back the recording and the scene is there. There must finally have been more commercials last night, accounting for less material than in a normal half.

I would not trust these two cops with the business records. I'm not sure that they're corrupt (although the casting of Roberto Ballesteros would make any experienced viewer jump to that conclusion) but I don't think they're very smart.

I didn't comment much on the music in this episode, so I will say it now: I find the "humorous" background music irritating. Like the music in the scene where Almira was refusing to talk to Maria. I'm sure this was meant to convey that she isn't turning into a maternal nightmare like Roselena (Refugio) or Gabriela (FELS), but Angelica Maria has been around long enough to know how to do this without the help of music that doesn't really fit with the rest of the music in this series. There has been worse before this, though.

Oscar is clearly full of himself and definitely a sexual opportunist. It will be interesting to find out what made him this way. It will cramp his style to be in charge of a teen boy he has to learn to be an example for. Nothing so far, though, makes me think he will completely fail at this. Fernando would give him a kick in the rear if he ultimately rejects Rodrigo in view of his own issues about the loss of his father and Maria will give him holy hell. That will hurt him more than anything, as it doesn't look like he has any relatives other than Rodrigo.

We need more information about this for a full assessment.

What would have been interesting would have been for Rodrigo to be younger so as to present a parenting challenge for Oscar. He's getting off too easily being presented with a kid who is nearly 16. I agree about the actor playing Rodrigo: He's not expressive enough. I also think they should have found a better-looking one.

I don't like nortena music and I hope we don't hear that much more of it.

As to the older photo of Oscar, I couldn't disagree more. He looks best with the haircut in the header photo I used today. It makes him look more mature and that is what Pablo has always needed. I am relieved that this series has him with that hair, short sideburns, and otherwise clean-shaven.

BTW, Miguel Angel Biaggio (Susanito) is actually 34 years old in real life. He really looks like a baby compared to his real age.

Thanks, UA, for a great recap as usual.

My favorite part was our young couple in the pulsating star!!!

I have a question: How can Coloso allow his rooster--a bird!!!-- to roam around his place. That is so nasty!!

I hope Amalia is cured of her blindness soon. Too sad.

Jarifa
La Joya del Norte

I was wondering how his apartment was so clean in view of that. Birds aren't like cats in that you can't train them to use a litter box.

But if you look closely you'll see that's a fighting bird. So is it smart enough to use the bird equivalent of a litter box?

As to Amalia's blindness, I'm sure she will be alright eventually. What I'd like to see is the entire band pitching in money so Maria can't even be tempted to accept any from Ruben. Santos should find a way to get his own money out of the US by way of his parents. As I said yesterday, that can be done.

I agree with you about the cops Urban. Altagracia has such faith in her son I think that is why she is willing to let them do the looking at the books. Justo, not so much. He doesn't trust them at all.

I liked Dona Pru's song Amorcito Corazon. I love that ballad and liked the TN too : )

Thanks UA,
ITA that Coloso now has no chance with Maria... EVER!.

About the scene at the Garza mansion with the Comandante and Teniente Curtis...
Before the Comm and Tnte arrived, Don Justo was getting flustered because he could not find any single one piece of evidence to help Santos, that his head kept shouting that Santos was guilty but his heart was still questioning it.

Then I was LOL'ing when Comandante Derecho and Tnte Curtis were there, trying to convince Don Justo that it was a matter of a couple of days before the MExico authorities caught Santos and returned him to the states... I agree that Derecho and Curtis were trying to trick Justo into giving them any info he had...
But I lost it laughing when Curtis spoke her line about the CRIMINAL Santos MdlG blah blah... and then Justo just stared at her and asked:
'Teniente, es Usted siempre tan inteligente?' (of course, sarcastic tone in it)
I agree that Mrs. MdlG is standing stronger...

This comment has been removed by the author.

I rewatched the scene and notice that when Comm Derecho told them Santos would be caught in thenext few days, Justo and his wife looked at each other and she nodded 'no' and he seemed toagree with her.
I was LOL'ing at Teniente's answer to Don Justo.
DJ: Teniente, have you always been that intelligent?
TC: Well, sometimes I am more. (LOL! and Comm Derecho felt the need to appologize to Don Justo in her name! LOL!! 'le ofrezco una disculpa')
Comm and Tnte also tell Don Justo that once the trial against their son and he is a runaway, all Santos' goods/accounts/property will be taken over by the government.

I also loved the 'prank' the Baritono and Fernando pulled on Santos when he told them the check he ripped was for 20,000 pesos. Fernando was making him believe that they really needed the money and were mad at him for ripping it.

I think Santos is beginning to feel a certain admiration for Fernando's sense of justice and weak spot for battered women.
I like the chemistry between the characters, and the actors seem to get along just as well.

JS has my same birthdate, just was born 5 yrs after me. And I am falling hard for those dimples and smile.

I have a close friend with the same birthdate but she doesn't appreciate novelas. In fact, she is not particularly upset that her son will not be studying Spanish (or any other language) after his freshman year.

That's a future weekend discussion topic.

I don't think the US government can seize all of Santos' assets until and unless he is convicted, which this series is not recognizing. It can freeze his assets pending arrest and/or trial outcome, but if Justo is a diplomat he would have his own resources at his disposal.

Urban and Marta:

The US government can freeze all of Santos' assets but they can't take them, as in seize, until and unless he is convicted. It is like the Madoff debacle. They froze all the assets first and then sold them off, the non monetary ones to compensate some of the victims. This is a mob thing though and they will freeze his assets for sure. I still think they want Santos so badly cause they want to know where/who the Godfather is, besides sending Santos to prison.

Of course Santos has no clue where the Godfather is or even that this has been going on for several years.

When is anyone going to get smart enough to realize he needs a new lawyer?

UA--gracias again for the excellent repast, er recap. It's what's for breakfast--with a side dish of asides, haha.

My favorite scene had to be Amalia and Maria not talking to each other, making poor Isa the go-between. So lame. But, the reason I liked it was that I marveled at how beautifully coiffed Amalia is and still in her robe. Nary a hair ever out of place.

So, Amalia either 1) visits the beauty parlor every morning before getting her day started, blind or not; 2) in addition to Maria giving her a shot at 5:00 am (remember the clock in the first scene?), she does her hair for her; or 3) she's not as blind as she lets on and does her own hair.

I really didn't need so much teen time with Paloma and Roddy mooning over each other, but would have loved more conversation with the retired mariachi who remembered Pedro. (Note: where "Fernando tells him “He's the son-in-law”, which prompts Don Antonio to say “Take good care of Maria because if you don't, like her father, she may wander.” I thought I heard Don Antonio say --Pedro would come back to defend her-- or something like that, especially since Antonio just finished telling the two of them that although he traveled, Pedro only had eyes for Amalia.)

I could have done less with Dona Pru's soup and more of the confrontation between Lourdes & Elvira.

Hmmm, I seem to be annoyed by the length (or brevity) of different scenes. Looking at UA's scene changes, there were a lot of them. Some of them just seem unfinished --too much time spent on the rooster and not enough time with Colosso and Gloria seeing each other for the first time in years and absorbing the information about a son-- while Gloria is there in front of him.

Sorry for the rant. Who am I to second guess the professionals in the business. Just give me plenty of JS in a charro suit, but lose the hat.

Poor Fernando. I was expecting him to lose life, limb, or something else inside that stretch limo, but I guess it was only a warning. When he rejoined Ana, he made light of the beat-down, but did tell her that he was hit in the place that hurts a man the most.

I'm also amazed at the frank talk in the tn about virginity in men, El Muchacho llamado Su admitting he'd never been with a woman and JAntos remedy --just wait for the right woman to come along, fall in love and that's all there is to it. And he repeated it. Well, amigos y amigas, does he really want Viewerville to believe that he is also chaste and virginal before meeting Maria??? He as good as admitted to be a guy who can't settle down to his mother. Was he only into kissing?

I was sure JAntos was going to set Su up with Irasema--or soon share Su's secreto with her and she helps him over the hump, so to speak.

Mirna is right about cooling things with Concho, but I bet things will get hot with El Aventurero.

Anita, La Dama del Queso

El Coloso is a rat! I thought maybe just maybe he was a good guy, deep, deep, deep down, but I was wrong!

I think Oscar showed his true colors last night in an unattractive way. Maria has told him a billion times there will never be a them and he can't get it through his thick head. He thought nothing of staking a claim on her in front of another woman. I was surprised that he even recognized Gloria since he thinks he's hot stuff. I really disliked the way he didn't want to listen to her and then his predictable reaction to the news he had a son. But I did like that Gloria didn't fall apart, held her dignity and essentially sent the message screw you.

I'm wondering more and more about Fernando's back story. There has to be a reason why he is so concerned with battered women and why he is such a commitment phobe.

I honestly thought Amelia was a bit juvenile with her behavior in not talking to Maria and hiding from Gloria. Its passive aggressive behavior designed to keep her daughter by her side. Early on we wondered if at the end JAntos and Maria would stay in Mexico or go to the US. I'm thinking stay in Mexico while Justo gets a European post. Maria would never leave her family or uproot them from the neighborhood they love.

The other day someone mentioned wondering if Derecho was a crooked cop based on the fact that Roberto Ballesteros was playing the part. The same can be said for Salvador Pineda's Concho. At this point both actors seem to be playing against type which makes it interesting to see where their characters may go.

Many of the actors in this story have worked together before. Peniche, Salinas and Pineda were all major players in Morelia and Peniche, Ballesteros and Alvarez wre all in Maria Mercedes. With Televisa signing actors to exclusive contracts you do tend to se the same actors appearing togehter multiple times.

Agree that Antonio did not say Maria would wander. What he said after Fernando told him JA was "the son-in-law" was that he'd better take care of Maria because "Pedro loved her so much that if you don't, he's liable to come back from the grave and get you (halar la pata)."

I agree, i also think he said Pedro would come back after Santos.

Thanks. He should already be going after Oscar for harassing Maria.

I have the feeling that Fernando's father or another man in his family might have been a batterer. Could he have killed Fernando's mother? One has to wonder how else Fernando would have ended up a street kid.

I agree that Amalia was being childish with Maria. Blowing off Gloria was ridiculously immature and rude.

Decie, Salvador Pineda has also played a priest! There is a photo in one of our weekend discussions.

For those who are saying it was just a warning, when Fernando was dragged into the limo, the problem was that the woman was battered by her husband and the message for Fernando was pretty clear, if he continued to try to contact her, the one who would suffer the consequences was her, not him. So the message was 'get away from her for good or else...'

Fernando's father may have been a batterer but on the infamous ride on the train he said his father died on the way to El Norte to follow the damn American dream and that's why he ended up on the street. Oddly enough he never did mention his mother so you could be right. It might also explain why he was so disgusted with JAntos when he found out the cops were looking for him.

Speaking of Pineda I couldn't help laughing when Concho's wife character whose name escapes me, was having her mini breakdown looking at pictures. I could only think the shot had to have been taken about 40 years ago.

Pineda was not bad looking in his youth and he can look quite distinguished when cleaned up.

Thanks for the detailed and lively recap, UA.

I'm afraid I see Amalia sliding down the scale from wistful and charming to fearful and whining. I hoped she might show a little more courage with her (temporary?) blindness. I'll hold off judgement for now.

I like Gloria and her dignity with Oscar. He needs to have a little more courtesy and compassion, especially if he's going to be raising a son as well as a rooster.

He has a lot to learn, no question about that.

Gracias, UA! I'm finally getting a chance to read this. Oscar is a colossal idiot and I was surprised at how badly he treated Gloria right in front of Maria. Then on top of that, not to realize how stupid that was. Feels like bad writing to me.
