Corazon Indomable #29 6/20/13 – Strong Men Struggle (with the Grim Reaper and a Grim-faced Bitch) and a Weak Man Waffles.

[Unfortunately, whatever opening scene was repeated from yesterday got lost in the shuffle. My son had turned off the captions and I was busy getting them back on. Some scenes are combined.]

Isla Dorada Casino
Although the casino in Isla Dorada may seem incidental to MariCruz’ story, it does form a large share of Don Alejandro’s wealth. And we know it takes lots of money for a major makeover, so let’s all pull for the success of the casino, shall we? And that’s where we begin, with Areceli standing in front of Carola’s desk.  The blonde boss says she’s satisfied with Areceli’s performance, but this will be her last night.  So sad, government authorities say she’s too young—20, but needs to be 21. Areceli is crushed, she liked her job, liked making her own money. She weeps and is afraid Teo might kick her out. Carola says don’t cry; she’s very sorry and would fix it if she could.
In the hallway, Raiza sees the upset Areceli and stops her. The cigar seller tells the older hostess her sad story and is shocked to hear Raiza say the age requirement is a lie! She knows the real reason, but Areceli has to swear she won’t tell. Raiza reveals that Teobaldo asked Carola to fire the girl. Areceli can’t believe it! Raiza says Carola told her--Teo is crazy in love with her, he won’t let any other men approach her.

Areceli is sure Raiza is mistaken and Teo only cares for her from pity, like a brother. Raiza thinks Areceli is naïve. Teo cultivates her (like his roses?) because no one else would ever love him. She warns Areceli that he’ll dominate her, making her a prisoner. Areceli thinks about Teo kissing her hand and begins to wonder.

Ancestral Mansion
MariCruz is in the kitchen of the mansion, discussing Don Ale’s menu changes with Justa and Tobias. (Did she regret making the strudel?) He must eat healthy, low-salt, low-fat, etc. They’ll help him to get better. She’s leaving to go shopping and will drive the car. (Good thing—she’s wearing her very high beige heels with her elegant red sheath dress.)

A kitchen confidential follows between the two servants. Justa remarks on changes in MC, how she’s bossy about Don Ale, doing things that only Tobias should do.  Tobias says some things will come out to explain it. Justa wonders if DA is in love with MC? He says no, that’s not it. If the master accepts her managing manner, they have to accept it too. Tobias tells Justa don’t bother MC or be rude to her, she’s doing right for Don Ale. In fact, if there were a showdown, Justa would leave before MariCruz.

The Boulevard of Broken Dreams
(It seems that our clever MC has taken to shopping like she once took to kissing Octavio) She is strolling through a high-end shopping plaza with several bags on her arm. She goes in another store, comes out with another bag, stops and admires the stuffed monkey she pulls out. Oblivio(isisimo) comes onto the plaza from another store at that moment (in pilot uniform)and sees her. (Dude, she looks like MC, she has a monkey—just like the monkey that shared your bridal bedroom—remember him?) Their eyes meet in a wary, yet searching stare. The intense stares continue through their conversation.  Tav blocks MC’s way.
MC: Leave me in peace. (Ladylike way to say “Sueltame?”) Why are you always showing up?
Ob: Maybe you’re turning up near me.  You look exactly like “her.”
          MC: That’s just a coincidence.
          Ob: What’s your name?
MC:  [no response at first]  Why do you want to know?
Ob:  Curiosity.   [she walks past him, as if ignoring him]
MC:  [turns slightly to speak] Maria Alejandra Mendoza. How was the person you knew called?
          Ob:  Maricruz.
Her carriage and manner are upright, formal, trained.  He is puzzled and frustrated.  MC says she has news for him—he’s mistaken. She is who she says.  Oblivio notes she has the same face, yet she’s refined and elegant. “Thank you, and how was MariCruz?,” responds MC. Our pilot reminisces, “She was a humble peasant girl, ignorant, yet innocent, pretty and sweet.” She then follows with a subtle putdown, “I suppose you have nothing more to say to me, Joven.”  No, nothing says Oblivo. Manners at the fore, MC murmurs “Con permiso,” and “Please don’t bother me again.”
Oblivio watches her walk away, thinking it’s impossible that could be MC, she’s so different.  The girl in the pension could be MC—that one makes him think Miguel could be lying. (Oh, the strain on the brain! Is she, isn’t she? How’s a guy to know?) As MC walks away, she thinks angry thoughts. She should have strangled him, clawed his eyes out. He couldn’t imagine that an educated woman could be his MC. She’ll destroy him! (She had the weapons with that pair of heels, just didn’t seize the opportunity.)

Ancestral Mansion
Back home, MC finds Solita and gives her the toy monkey. (Monito has a turn with it.) She recounts her encounter with Tav, her burning desire to destroy his family. There’ll be no more tears for the two girls. She’s a completely different person now, one who can make the Narvaez tremble in pain and sorrow, the way they did to her.
Next, MC checks in with Don Ale.  He’s feeling about the same, the doctor scheduled some tests, and MC did well driving the car.  She gives him a tie she bought (a makeup token for all those father’s days she missed) and they exchange a tender hug and thank-yous. He’s done so much to help her, she promises he won’t regret it.  She wants to help him, but he wants her to take it easy while expecting a baby.  DA thinks they should look for father of her baby, but MC says no, never, she has valid reasons.  Her father thinks a father has a right to know his child, but MC plans for revenge. DA is concerned one so young can have so much rancor.  MC says she has learned so much she is a new person inside. More hugs.

Isla Dorada Casino
A dramatically posed Raiza ponders as she leans on the ship’s rail. Areceli is such good man-bait that she can’t leave. She goes inside for more plotting with Areceli, suggesting that the girl try to get away from the lust-ridden Teo while pretending to be fired.  While Areceli is working her supposed final shift, Teo returns to his house with a package. He dumps out several piles of money, which he stashes away.  Later, Areceli is back at Teo’s house, huddled silently on the couch. Teo asks if she is angry and words are thrown about. She wanted to work, he wants to control her!  He denies it, says she is free to go. She knows he had her fired!  His obsession made her lose her job!  He objects and says she is lying! She said no one can stop me. I’ll work in a brothel if necessary!  (Them’s fightin’ words, except they’re already doing that.)

Ancestral Mansion, very late
MariCruz, sitting up late to study (as Don Ale told her NOT to do), is having some Rancho Love flashbacks. Octavio took advantage of her and seduced her without loving her. She loved him and still does, but she won’t forgive him.  At the same time, Don Alejandro is clutching his chest as he suffers a heart attack. He falls down beside the bed, struggles to the emergency alarm, and grabs his oxygen mask.  Tobias hears the alarm in the kitchen, runs to the master’s side and calls the doctor (who seems to have a good gig going in this household.)
MC rushes out to see what’s going on.  Don Ale feels his time to die may be now, while MC begs her dad not to leave her now that she’s found him.  His blood pressure and breathing are bad; he’s going out like a candle but he wants to fix the Isla Dorada casino before he goes. The casino is a vital part of his daughter’s inheritance and he must fix it before he finds her.  MC and Tobias are agonizing over the master’s condition.  MC thinks her father cannot die without knowing she’s his daughter; Tobias cannot tell DA his daughter is right beside him.

Heartbreak Hotel
Oblivio is still awake, trying to puzzle out the mystery of multiple MariCruz’ popping up all over the city. (He’s shirtless, but has the covers pulled up. Sorry!) The girl they almost hit in the car could be MC, but not the theatre girl or the girl shopping and driving the car.  The girl at the motel could be her, but how to find her?
The next day, Ob and Ed have lunch and discuss their upcoming trip to Isla Dorada. Ed’s working up a serious interest in Areceli and suggests Tav might want to hang out with Raiza. Tav proves he hasn’t lost all brain cells--he doesn’t see any charm in the skanky one.

Isla Dorada Casino
The skanky one is sound asleep when she’s awakened by heavy pounding on the door. She goes to the door in her red satin pajamas and sees Teobaldo through the peephole.  “How dare you wake me up? Are you drunk?,” she demands.  “Yes,” he shouts, “drunk with rage.”  Having established this basic tone, the two enemies continue.  He claims she’s so wrinkled and ugly she has to wear makeup to bed so she doesn’t give herself nightmares! (OK, I think that’s an old joke, but it works pretty well here.) He only asked Carola to fire Areceli to free her of Raiza’s evil influence.
He continues that she’s old, ugly, wrinkled, with hair like straw.  She’s envious, bitter and dried up, she hates Areceli’s young, fresh beauty, with smooth skin and silky hair. (So, being a man of horticulture, Teo thinks in terms of plants. Raiza is the last hard dried prune in the box, while Areceli is a smooth and juicy ripe plum.) Raiza fires back: He won’t keep Areceli, because he’s a monster. She’s already told Areceli to leave. So, she spoke evil of him! Yes, and she’ll continue!  (This scene is a good opportunity to see a virulent argument without visiting a crummy bar or a family gathering.)

Ancestral Mansion, early morning
The doctor gave Don Ale a sedative to assure his rest.  It’s important to ease his stress over the casino mess.  MC decides it’s time to pay her father back and help him solve his problem.  She knows nothing of casinos, but she’s a quick learner. A few days study and she’s good to go. She’ll go with his authorization to inspect and detect. If Carola’s honest, that’s fine.  She can still hide her pregnancy; she’s afraid of nothing, and has nothing to lose. Don Ale gives in and grants his permission.

Next Chapter
MC goes to Isla Dorada and runs into Oblivio (again!?)  See, you thought the casino was just a place for rich playboys, pilots, and skanky women to hang out.  It’s our next stage of action and a proving ground for MariCruz (or should we say Maria Alejandra?) Maybe we can call her MariCruz 3.0 or 2.5 whatever version is appropriate. Or MariAle.  Anything but basura.  She has a big agenda—save the casino, protect her heart from Oblivio, protect the grandbaby, act suave and sophisticated and let Don Ale know her true identity.

La Paloma:

Fantastic recap! I was sorry to see Don Ale have another attack. I hope he stays in the land of the living and finds out that MC is his daughter.

So glad there wasn't any Luciafer or Miguel tonight.

I had to laugh at the argument with Raiza and Teo, I liked that he called her on her skin and hair, which look equally bad. I don't like that Aricely would work as a Ho! I hope Aricely sees through Raiza and quickly.

That stuffed monkey was very cute. Now if they would just hire a tutor that teaches sign language to Solita.

Tav is completely clueless. I remember what JudyB said yesterday about listening to voices to recognize someone, and she was right! The sing song may be gone, but the voice is exactly the same. How Tav hasn't figured that out, I don't know. Well, he only has two of his brain cells firing, that must be it, lol.

Nice job Paloma!

I must say I felt sorry for Don Ale, what triggered it this time? Maybe Tobias is right that they cannot tell him the truth staright out it'll kill him. If only they speak to the cardiologist what to do at this situation there must be a way to let him know that his daughter is right there by his side.

When did MC learned to drive a car? I only seen maths, computers, manners and etiquette lessons.. have they shown her driving around with an instructor?

Love the scene with Teo & Raiza. "so wrinkled and ugly she has to wear makeup to bed" - LOL, how old is the actress who plays Raiza and how old is she supposed to be in the story? So far in this TN every actor plays an almost age appropriate character.

Finally MC's going to go La Isla Dorada, I'm curious how Carola will react that somebody come to look and boss over them :) MC must find out about the embezzlement.

Hmmmmm . . . A stuffed monkey. Looks like it was a toy for the real changuito . . . Or maybe a replacement. Changuito better keep both eyes open 24/7! Way too funny!

Awesome recap, La Paloma.

@irisz79 - on Tuesday's episode Teo reminds MC that her driving instructor will be arriving shortly, just before MC goes to the kitchen to tell Solita she found her father; it's just a hint that she has been taking driving lessons, since they never show it.

About Raiza's age, the actress Ana Patricia Rojo is 38 years old, so I think she is playing a more-or-less age appropriate character.

But, the Araceli character (who is 19 or 20) is way younger than the actress (Michelle Ramaglia) who plays her - that actress is 34 years old!!!!

@La Paloma - I think from now on we should call MC "La Mendoza". It's very appropriate for her strong and vengeful new personality.

Great recap! So unsettling watching my Ale grabbing that heart. I almost wanted to start yelling NOOOOO myself. Dang, I knew we would most likely lose this character soon, but not happy about it.

I vote on the side of letting this poor man know already he's looking at his daughter. He's all stressed out anyway about the casino and still wanting to find her before he dies. Are they really going to have some last minute death bed admittance right before he goes? That stinks!

Poor Tav. The family clueless gene is just alive and well still in both Tav and his bro. I get dopplegangers, but I'm with Judy, the voice is another thing. Just have to keep going with "this is a TN, this is a TN..." and try not to get frustrated.

For some reason, it really hit me and bothered me last night that not only was Solita's whole issue sort of parked, but she still dresses and appears as she did when they first hit town, albeit the clothes are cleaner. Same look, hair in the pig tails...c'mon. You would think Mari would want a makeover for her like she got...if only a nice new hairdo, maybe a new look in the clothes department? Rant over...

So now we move to the casino as the main frame. OH boy??

Daisy

Tks La Paloma

A stuffed monkey? Why wouldn't she buy Solita sth nice to wear? Besides, there is already a monkey in the house. And why don't they ever take Solita out of the house?

When did MC get driving lessons? From what I have heard, it wouldn't matter in DF anyway.

Pobre Oblivio, he is seeing MC's everywhere, even in the only shopping center in DF. One thing though, he hasn't seen the new MC smile,so no sign of those tell tale dimples.

The make-up person doesn't want to take a lot of time with Raiza, he/she just plops that ugly blond wig on her.

Fabulous recap La Paloma!

ITA with you Daisy. It would really stink if they revealed the truth to Ale on his death bed and then he croaks. But it kind of looks like they are setting us up for that as his health weakens. Hopefully, MariAle can shake things up and turn things around at the casino. Maybe she’ll even catch the thief, El Zorillo. Wait till Raiza gets a look at that beautiful, young, fresh thing.

Loved the argument between Teo and Raiza. They both got some good zingers in. She did look like a vampire to me, fully made up, propped up on 10 pillows, in blood red satin pjs.

I kind of felt sorry for Tav last night, as he tried to figure out the multiple MCs puzzle. It will get worse tonight when MariAle shows up in Isla Dorada. He really will begin to think he's hallucinating. I loved the withering looks she gave him when they spoke in the shopping center. The flashbacks to her smiling innocence when they first met really showed how much she has changed.

Thanks LatinaInMD I missed that conversation.

@Daisy, I had the same thoughts the other day. what's with the cardigan?

@Variopinta, I don1t think it's a wig, rather they died her hair a bleached blond and it doesn't suit her very well.
You're right about MC those dimples are a dead giveaway for her identity.

@Vivi, a vampire indeed, I cannot decide that the makeup artists are this bad ot this good? She looks older that she is actually..

Thanks, Paloma, for the great recap! I must have had monkey brain since I forgot my manners!

Jarifa

Great recap la Paloma. I especially enjoyed the headings Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Heartbreak Hotel.

And lots of funny asides:

"Oh the strain on the brain!" {doesn't take much to confuzzle our Octavio}

"she has the weapons with that pair of heels" {indeed, I can remember long walks in heels like that also. It's like remembering total lunacy.}

But but absolute favorite:

"he's shirtless but he has the covers pulled up. Sorry!"

Oh yeah, if Cynderella was watching, we can expect a rant any minute now.

The heart attack scene was all too real and scary. I felt like I was about to have an attack myself. Noooo, don't take away our don Ale!!!!

Thanks la Paloma. Witty and complete.

I am trying to learn Spanish (dang those present perfect and prederite verbs) and watch TN to help with my studies.

I just discovered Caray Caray and appreciate all the work that is put into the daily recaps and posts. i could follow the story line somewhat, but now can really enjoy as I know what is going on with all the nuances

Thank you to all of you.

Thanks for a great recap, Paloma. I squirmed a bit with:

"She had the weapons with that pair of heels, just didn’t seize the opportunity."

A woman here in Houston did exactly that recently. Yikes!

Daisy, I feel exactly the same as you about Solita. At least Don Alejandro said that he considers both girls as his daughters... unfortunately, so far her seems to favor the one who can hear and speak more.

Poor don Ale, Maricruz is now the food police. No salt, no fat, no sugar... is she gonna take away his booze?

Carlos

Hello EmeraldRose!!! Our recappers are the absolute best to be sure. Please join in the comment fun!

Daisynjay...all this time I've been thinking you and Daisy are the same...just on different computers. Do we actually have two Daisy's? That would be unusual.

Thank you Daisynjay for the warm welcome. I will look forward to reading the recaps and posts daily.

Octavio must think he's going crazy with all these MCs running around the city, haha. I'm going to give him a pass on the MC/maria ale. identity. Just because this is a tn & because he's just so pretty, especially in his pilot's uniform! Plus he did not know MC for long, nor did they really live together as husband & wife. She also acts very different & keeps denying that she is maricruz. what's one to think? I read this article once about different celebrities that look very similar to each other & the article included side by side photos for comparison. I swear that with some of those photos it seemed liked you were looking at the same person, so it happens I guess.

I was very impressed on how cool MC was able to play it when she ran into octavio. I'm liking her new attitude. She's definitely not the same campesina girl.

That was some argument between Teo & Raiza, I think it's safe to say that those two will never be friends. Although Teo is still kind of a mystery to me, I am glad to see that he can totally stand up for himself.

thanks for the recap paloma! favorite line was 'It seems that our clever MC has taken to shopping like she once took to kissing Octavio' haha so true.

Should be interesting to see the new MC meeting everyone at the casino tonight.

jlk

OK, so, MC has had two weeks of math tutoring and a couple of etiquette classes and now she's on her way to infiltrate some embezzlers who have probably been to college? Riiiiiiiggggghhhhhhttttt!

Cynderella

LatinalnMD, I can't believe that the actress who plays aricely is 34! wow....talk about great genes!

jlk

@LatinaInMD, thanks for pinpointing the driver's ed. reference. I knew something had been said sometime.
@Welcome, emeraldrose. Feel free to join in the fun.
@Carlos, Ay yi yi! That sounds like a gruesome murder. I wouldn't want Oblivio's sweetboy face mangled like that even if he is a doofus at times.
@Cynderella, I sense some doubt from you on MariAle's ability to pull off the casino coup? :) Aww, she's smart, she's fearless, she'll hide behind those dimples.
It'll be fun to watch.

At least we now know algebra is useful for something- investigating casinos. I was good at math and may have some new job opportunities here. Thank you, telenovelas!

Kelly

Daisy wrote:"I vote on the side of letting this poor man know already he's looking at his daughter. He's all stressed out anyway about the casino and still wanting to find her before he dies. Are they really going to have some last minute death bed admittance right before he goes?"

MC needs to get (a)a lawyer, and (b) the doctor into Ale's room and then she needs to tell him she is his daughter. The Will needs to be clarified that Maricruz is indeed the inheritor of Ale's estate.

The she can proceed with her settling of scores.

Was it poor direction or laziness on the part of the actress that caused Raiza to get up from a deep sleep, dressed in satin pajamas COMPLETE WITH ROBE and already wearing high heels to answer the door? She didn't even pause to pretend to put on her shoes! So dumb.

La Paloma---I was spellbound watching the show last night so you must know that your recap is much appreciated. Thank you. Right up front you had me laughing with--
It seems that our clever MC has taken to shopping like she once took to kissing Octavio. I'm still laughing and am afraid that I will get what Big Don Ale got last night

I was chuckling at---She'll destroy
him! [she had the weapons with that pair of heels, just didn't seize the opportunity] Chuckling that is until I read the news article that carlos posted. YIKES!!

Variopinta---The make-up person doesn't want to spend a lot of time
with Raiza, he/she just plops that ugly blonde wig on her.---Wow! you women are brutal. LOL

Cynderella---Ok, so, MC has two weeks of math tutoring and a couple
of ediquette lessons and now she thinks she's on her way to infiltrate some embezzlers who have
probably been to college. riigghhtt
Yeah! I was thinking the same thing last night but this is a novela and Maricruz is Superwoman.
the gringo

Anon, Raiza wants to be armed at all times, just in case. Don't you wear your high heels to bed?

Carlos, I had heard about that murder. I always thought they were good to get rid of a creep by stepping on his foot with the heel of the shoe. Talk about overkill.

La Paloma thanks so much for your recap. You have a wonderful sense of humor.

LatinaInMD - I am kind of enjoying MC's desire to get back at Luciafer. I know by the end she will come to her senses but I'd like to see Luciafer be afraid, very afraid.

Nope Judy! It's just me Daisynjay. But my one laptop at home is giving me fits about signing into my goodle account so I always have to go in as ANON. Then I'm lazy and just sign Daisy. One of these days, just may change to me good old name and be done with it.

Whew...because the tone of the comments was the same. Same sense of humor etc. but I thought, yikes, maybe there REALLY are two!

Thanks La Paloma, so funny. When Areceli was thinking about Teo kissing her hand, at the time I was wondering too. But he's got to be at least twice her age. I hope he doesn't have untoward feelings for her.

Judy B, you can even recognize someone just from the way they write, and Oblivio can't recognize his own wife standing right in front of him with the monkey. He should have asked her what the monkey's name was.

Finally the dimwit asked her name, a little too late because now it's different. She has gone de basura a
tesoro

Yesterday it was said that Oblivio
should be able to tell Maricruz by
her voice because a person can change their looks-- new clothes,
make-up, new hair style etc. but the voice remains the same. Today it was said that Maricruz's dimples
are a dead giveaway. I agree on both points but we must all remember that galans are always dumb, at least in the beginning and that Oblivio is one of the dumbest ones ever. He is handsome, has beautiful hair, a great body but was only born with two brain cells. The poor guy has been having trouble as 1&1/2 of his cells malfunctioned. He needs the 1/2 cell that he has left to fly the plane, so my guess is that the voice or even dimples won't be enough for him to recognizse the now "new Maricruz."
the gringo

@jlk - just to make sure, I googled Michelle Ramaglia ("Araceli") and she actually had her 35th birthday in May. (I agree she has good genes, esp. compared to Elizabeth Alvarez - "Lucia" - who is also 35 years old but looks way older.)

I really like how the are changing Maricruz's personality. It's not just that she's more refined and educated...she has this darkness inside her now. My favorite parts of this episode was when, after talking to Octavio, Maricruz says "That woman (that I was in the past) was much better than this one (that I am now)." Wow. that sent chills down my spine. Secondly, when she's by Ale's bedside and is asking him for permission to go to Isla Dorada and she says "Yo no tengo nada que perder" which means, "I have nothing to lose". Of course, she DOES have a lot to lose - Don Ale, Solita, her baby...
