TELEMUNDO Y MAS - week of July 15
Labels: cielos, dyo, marido, telemundo
Just an FYI, I took the liberty of combining some of the shorter scenes here in the interest of the flow of storytelling…
Tomas brings the Santamarias to their new home sweet home, and Tomas lays down the rules for whiny Ruben—Tomas is the Alpha here, and if Ruben doesn’t like it, he can find another place to live. Abue is anxious to see Ignacia, and Tomas assures her Iggy is just upstairs, where he brought her breakfast in bed. He goes to get her and finds she isn’t there. She has escaped her golden cage.
Lupita runs out of the house to buy “something” with a lame excuse to Mamacita Santa. Outside she holds her stomach and whimpers. Yes, we get it. You’re pregnant. Sheesh.
Ignacia is chatting with Karina at an outdoor café, needing some quality BFF time (barking up the wrong tree there, Ingenua-cia!). She tells Karina that Tomas wants her to quit working and make babies, and Karina fishes for Ignacia to say that she doesn’t love Tomas.
Marge is looking through a box of pictures and finds one of herself and Gina as young girls… she laments that she knows she’ll never be as pretty as Gina. Gina interrupts and hurries Margarita to get ready for the argolla party, and when Marge has left the room, she tears up the picture of them as teenagers. WAIT… SHE WHAT??? Things are getting stranger with Tia Gina, and it’s not looking good! Is she bitter about Marge raising Pedro? Or is there more to this story??
Abue banters with Tomas, can she see her nieta YET? Ummm, no, she, ummmm, went out, he responds. “What? She goes out the day after her wedding, when she should be delighting in her honeymoon?” Abue’s eyebrows and tone of voice say it all. She is the master of indirectas in this TN! I love this woman’s facial expressions.
The barrio gente are preparing for the argolla party, and we get an amusing scene as Marge is required to record the “full names” of the padrinos… Neto’s “Cristopher Melquiades Gomines Capito” gets giggles from everyone (not sure why, but it’s fun to see them laugh), but not nearly the laughs that Oleg’s “Olegario Proculo Gomez Barriga” gets when Mireya lets the cat out of the bag. Olegario swears Proculo means “luchador.”
Another scene of Lupita looking anguished, holding her stomach, with a brown bag, giving the audience a good look at the pregnancy test box as she pulls it out of the bag. Just in case the fainting, the nausea, the whining, and the holding the stomach were too subtle.
In the kitchen at the new house (which, by the way, I’m nicknaming “Dexter’s kitchen” because the grey marble with red streaks on the walls and counters reminds me of blood spatters in a serial killer’s dungeon… has anyone else gotten this impression??), Abue tries to convince Estela that moving in here was a mistake, and they should move back to the apartment. Abue’s not so sure she’s going to get along with Tomas, and she has a feeling they’re all going to regret it. Estela tells her to shut up and threatens to put her in an asylum. Estela’s daughter-of-the-year trophy is now on its way.
Back at the party, the padre has arrived, so the fiesta’s gonna be jumpin soon. Mireya and Neto have a brief conversation off to the side, which I couldn’t really decipher much of, other than Neto assuring her that he’s not going to be her problem… he’s going to be her solution.
Viewers get beaten over the head with ANOTHER “Lupita’s pregnant, we’re really not kidding, she really is, for real” scene when she stumbles out of the bathroom and holds up the positive pregnancy test so that we can all finally see the truth. Then she whimpers, “positivo” in case some viewers don’t know what the two lines mean. So, I guess that means Lupita is pregnant after all. Thank God that’s cleared up.
Ignacia shows up at the house, fresh out of the “Charlie’s Angels” hair, wardrobe, and make-up room (sure, she was wearing the same clothes at the café with Karina, but it takes on a whole new dimension with the Farrah Fawcett hair, which she DIDN’T have at the café. Must be the sea air.). Tomas asks her where she was, she says she went out for some air. Tomas is interrupted with a phone call from Karina, who reports that Iggy just confessed to her that she regrets marrying him. Tomas confronts Ignacia in their bedroom, where her Charlie’s Angels hairspray has seemingly dissolved and she is sporting normal Ignacia (mejor in my opinion) hair. He asks her if she was with Karina, she says no.
Estela has gone to the apartment to “pick up some things she left” (like maybe all those books filling the bookshelves in the living room? I was wondering when they’d come back for those. This family is full of voracious readers.), and Mariano shows up. He wants to recuperate everything he lost, beginning with the cariño of his hijos. Estela informs him his hijo with Gina is still alive… she’s convinced that he already knows this and has planned everything with Gina. Mariano is pi$$ed. He decides to stay in LA in the apartment and get to know his long-lost son. Estela forbids any communication with his hijos, they don’t want to know him. She throws him out (wait, didn’t he say the apartment is his, and he’s planning on staying there?) and he vows he will see his children, no matter what. “If you only knew that Ignacia is not your daughter…” Estela steams after he leaves.
The ring-blessing ceremony commences, Lupita arrives late. Mireya is on cloud nine, Pedro is a deer in headlights. They kiss, and suddenly Pedro is passionate… because he’s imagining kissing Ignacia. Pedro looks impactada when he wakes up from his daydream.
Marge: “What’s wrong, Lupita? Where were you?
Lupita: “It’s nothing, mama. “ More questions, more non-answers.
Etcetera. FF>> Lupita runs from the room.
Mireya finds Lupita crying (BIG SURPRISE) on a bench. Lupita tells Mireya that she’s pregnant. Mireya tells her not to tell anyone right now. Mireya thinks they should go to the hospital to get a blood test done on Lupita, and then she needs to tell the father (which should go well).
Tomas calls Karina to report that Ignacia lied about not seeing Karina. He sets up a rendezvous at his office. Later, they meet up and he demands to know everything Ignacia said, and if she’s cheating on him. Karina wants to know what’s in it for her
Iggy goes to the apartment buscando Estela, and there Estela confronts her… why didn’t you tell me you had seen your father? Are you going to abandon me now? Ignacia assures her that she would never abandon the woman who raised her for someone she’s only met a couple of times.
Marge and Gina are having an after-party heart-to-heart. Gina thanks Marge for doing such a wonderful job raising Pedro (and we’re not so sure she’s for real, after the tearing-up-the-picture scene).
Estela and Ignacia (having stopped for a Charlie’s Angels hairspray touch-up) return to the new house, and Iggy informs Abuela that Mariano has decided to stay in LA. What a nightmare that will be for mama, no?
Another mysterious phone chat between Gina and Braulio reveals that she is “laying the groundwork” for their plans, and she has deposited a large amount of money in his account. QTH? Marge walks in and Gina bites her head off… are you spying on me?? And then quickly recants and apologizes. Marge is concerned… sometimes I don’t recognize you as the same girl that left so many years ago, you’ve changed so much. Even your face…. QUE QUE WHAAAAT?? Anyone else sensing an impostor in the house?? O. M. GGGGina!
Gina is nervous, and says that people change a lot in 30 years. “And don’t you think we should talk about taking you to the doctor again about that hallucination you had the other day confusing Mireya and Lupita? I think your medications may be affecting your memory…” Oh, man. Gaslight, anyone?
**My theories and conclusions are merely my opinions, and are not intended as spoilers, as I have not seen any future episodes. Please let me know if I overstep my bounds in my predictions!
Hombre thanks for mentioning Maria del Pilar as Ros niece. I saw her name on wikipedia but didnt recognize her till you mentioned it.
I recongnize Juan Pablo and Esther from EL ROSTRO DE LA VENGANZA. (Bet Paulos Glad hes not playing a steroetypical evil ranch hand)
I saw Ariel Texido (The gay guy) twice. In MAS SABE EL DIABLO as Andres Molina (stays with Horacio) and in LA CASA DE AL LADO as Danilo Salas (a baddie working for Adolfmael)
Havent seen Gabriel Coronel before. All i know is that he starred in RELACIONES PELIGROSAS so ill see how good he is in this.
Sonya Smith is doing great so far. Loved her in SECRETEANDO. Did anyone ever see it?
Wow, thanks for the great and funny recap AnotherAmy! I had to laugh at your list of all the stereotype pregnancy hints!
Also...the minute Gina tore up the photo, I was going Uh-ohhhh. But they could leading us astray, because after all, didn't Estela and Abuela both recognize Gina? Still, it doesn't look good...
Well, Mireya came through for Stupita (oops, I mean, Squeaky), giving her sisterly advice and not blabbing her secret to Pedro. Wonder how Moto-Boy is going to take the news?
J in Oregon
NOTE: Scenes have been combined for continuity
Lo de ayer:
Antonio disses Gris and she tells him to go find another mother.
TC reminds Reinaldo that everything belongs to her.
Amalia goes up to Rafa and orders him not to come to her house anymore. He tells her she came for something else and then plants a big one.
Antonio's Light Bulb Moment: "I'll hire an actress to play my millionaire mother."
At the beach Gris tells Gabriel that he's (only) a good friend. Later Reinaldo sees a skinny-dipping woman and realizes from the overalls on the beach that it's Gris.
Lo de nuevo:
Beach
Gris is horrified that a man is watching her. She covers up and tells him to go away which he does. While she dresses she wonders who the nosy jerk was ("metiche molón, lit "nosy pest").
Desfile (lit "parade" but here, "fashion show")
Reinaldo returns to his seat and TC demands to know where he was. He says he was checking on things at the restaurant. She reminds him that at a social event she is the only one who matters yada…He flashbacks to nude (from the back) Gris.
Ro tells Vanesa it's a good thing Reinaldo came back because TC is a volcano that would erupt. TC turns to look at him and he wonders how she knows he's talking about her. He comes to the conclusion that she is a witch. (No, she's the word that rhymes with "witch.")
At the gran final JP and Esther come out to great applause. Later they toast to the success of Fina Estampa's new line with family and friends. Ro embarrasses himself by holding up a bathing suit to his body. Is he a transvestite as well?
Casa Carrasco
Gris returns home and Amalia notices the wet hair and sand. Gris admits to going to the beach to wash away all the stress and sadness of the day. Amalia realizes she was skinny-dipping. Gris admits that a man saw her but she crouched down in the water and he left when she asked him to. Gris asks her what she made for dinner. "Macaroni and meatballs." She seems less than thrilled. Well, her future BFF is a chef…Gris goes upstairs to take a shower.
Kike comes in and tells Amalia about the argument between Gris and Antonio at Taco Bar. Amalia looks at the dress Antonio bought Gris. After her shower Gris looks at the dress (which Amalia must have brought upstairs or was teleported) and remembers Antonio's rant about her not acting like the woman she is.
[Mini PC rant. I know it's pronounced "kee-kay" and it's a common nickname for "Enrique" but when I write "Kike" my English brain wants to pronounce it with a long i which makes it a derogatory word for a Jew. I think I'm going to have to abbreviate his name too.]
Kikito doesn't like the dinner and the music tells us no one else does either. No one wants seconds and K suggests they throw the rest out. Lecture about not wasting food follows. She'll give it to a homeless person. Amalia asks about the dress and Gris says she can have it. (Uh, it's a bit too long for her, like one of Luciafer's maxi dresses on CI.)
Chez Palmer
Reinaldo, TC and party arrive home. Pat asks Antonio what happened to "his" motorcycle and he lies that it's in the shop. TC quietly isn't buying it. Her intuition fires on all cylinders.
In their bedroom TC (without makeup!) comments how strange it is that JP and Esther are into public displays of affection after so many years of marriage. Reinaldo reminds her he kissed her at the desfile. TC says it was to stop the wagging tongues when he left her for a whole 19 minutes. Reinaldo says she is his queen and makes advances but she has a headache and asks him to fetch her some aspirin. OK she didn't say "fetch" but she might as well have. She goes on about JP and Esther's lovey-dovey PDAs and finds it weird that they don't have any children. Maybe it's an act? Reinaldo encourages her to focus on their own lives. He goes to the kitchen to get her aspirin. After he leaves TC comments to herself, "He left me for 19 minutes. What's the world coming to?" or words to that effect.
[I only watch with captions when I do a recap. The captions are pretty accurate but I came across a word I couldn't find in my dictionaries, melocochería. If anyone can translate, I'd be much obliged.]
In the kitchen Reinaldo gets the aspirin. He spots Gris' business card on the counter and smiles. (Who keeps aspirin in the kitchen? Mine is in the bathroom.) He looks at the phone…When he goes back to the bedroom he finds TC sound asleep.
Airport
JP and Esther are about to leave on a private plane. An official asks JP if they could take a passenger, Dr. Alba Perkins, because she is going to the same destination and needs to get there ASAP. JP says it was supposed to be a romantic getaway for two but relents and allows her to come. On the plane Esther asks her what is in the large box that she brought along. "Semen." She explains that she is an in-vitro specialist. Esther appears very interested. When they land Dr. P. says her secretary will send payment for the flight. More chitchat ensues and she asks the couple if they have kids back in Miami. Esther tells them no and Dr P. suspected as much because they would have been talking about them. Esther asks for her business card and Dr. P. obliges and tells her to address her as "tú." JP asks her why she wants a card.
Casa Carrasco
Phone rings…is it? No! it's Gabriel. She asks him if anything is wrong with the fridge she fixed earlier. He tells her he was worried about her when he saw her alone at the beach and asks her if she got home okay. Gris finds this a bit patronizing, tells him not to be so annoying ("sangrón", annoying) and hangs up on him. Pretty rude, I'd say.
NEXT DAY
Blue Dolphin Kiosk
While we watch Gris getting ready for work we hear Antonio and Daniel discussing Antonio's brilliant plan. Daniel thinks he's nuts (as does Viewerville) and asks him where he'll find an actress and the money to pay her. Antonio replies that there's always going to be out of work actresses (like death and taxes, I suppose) and because of them he'll always have work. (Maybe he'll say, "Do this for me and I'll fix your nose for free when I graduate." Nah.) Daniel leaves and Antonio says that he's sorry but he hopes Gris will understand some day. (In your dreams dude!)
Casa Carrasco
K is trying to get Kikito dressed but he isn't having it. (I thought they mentioned emotional problems in a previous episode and that there wasn't any money to pay for therapy?) K picks up his wedding picture and calls his ex "una zorra" ("a crafty person" but here I think it means "bitch"). Kikito objects and tells him "Don't call my mother that!" (K needs some parenting classes, stat.) K says she 's very happy with her gigolo. "What's a gigolo?" Yes, K, poison the child's mind against his mother. You have issues with her but she is still Kikito's mom.
Gris comes downstairs at the tail end of this because I think she would let K have it for saying those things to Kikito about his mom. Amalia joins them and K tells her that Antonio didn't come home last night and they wonder it it's due to the argument. Gris doesn't want to discuss it but does say that Antonio said some hateful things to her. Gris tells them there's some "queso fresco" in the fridge. She calls it "poor people's cheese." She says that after paying for Antonio's books there isn't much money for anything better. Antonio needs to have an anvil fall on him real soon.
Gris completes her daily ritual: prayers to the Virgen and a curse to her dead husbands picture. She goes out to her truck and counts her blessings: it's a beautiful day and she has work. She's proud of who she is and is not going to change.
Chez Palmer
TC wakes up and calls for Reinaldo. She heard the shower and thinks he's in there so she takes this opportunity to snoop through his wallet. She finds Gris' card and tears it up. She says that this machorra ("butch") is everywhere and calls her bigotuda ("woman with a mustache," which I think will be used in the same way that Luciafer called Maricruz "basura" on CI).She tells herself she has to mark her territory (EW!). She calls for her Lion King and walks into the bathroom to find water sowing all over from the shower. In her very own exaggerated way she yells she's drowning on the Titanic. (It would have been a shame to put her in a lifeboat.)
TC runs into the kitchen, tells Reinaldo to stop being a chef and come quickly. Next we see him trying to stop the spewing with duct tape as he tells her that it's only a temporary solution. (Doesn't he know duct tape can fix anything?)He looks for Gris' card in his wallet and TC asks why he has to call that bigotuda. Ro comes in wearing flamingo-pink shorts and TC orders him to call the bigotuda and tell her to hurry.
Work Site
Gris is welding something when she gets the call. She tells Ro she be there as soon as she can.
Chez Palmer
Reinaldo is thinking of skinny-dipping Gris. TC asks him what she's thinking about and tells her nothing in particular, just that he hopes Gris can fix the shower. TC comments that he addresses Gris with "tú". She starts to get busy with him. The headache is definitely gone.
Thanks for the recap, Sue. Antonio makes me want to choke him. I always thought zorra meant whore, like the other 50-11 words in Spanish, that if masculinized just meant 'guy'. Zorro, fulano, cualquier, tipo all mean guy, but if you add an A at the end of any of these words it means whore. Ah, sexism.
Chez Palmer
Ro wonders why Manuel can't do all the handyman tasks. The maid says he good for nothing. Ro jokes they should fire Manuel and hire Gris.
In the living room TC has calmed down but Reinaldo's rejection still bites. She brings up Vanesa working at the restaurant and Reinaldo asks what she has against her. She complains that she bankrolls the restaurant but he doesn't discuss decisions with her. Reinaldo goes to leave for work and crashes into Gris coming in. She apologizes and TC sarcastically says she'll arrange with a lawyer to assist with the reconciliation.
Twenty Questions as Gris works on the shower. Have you been doing this kind of work long? Did you go to school at all? Wow! Gris tells her she went to school until she got married…at age 14! Then it was bye-bye studies. You had some sort of technical training? No, my dad taught me. ETC.. Gris turns the tables–why all the questions? TC says it's pure curiosity because she doesn't understand why a woman would do this kind of work. They chat some more about how TC doesn't know how to do anything and that if, God forbid, she ever lost all her money and servants (whom she called "slaves") she would be up a creek. TC invites her to stay for coffee.
In the kitchen Gris says she takes her coffee black ("amargo", bitter) and compliments TC on the lovely hand-embroidered napkins. Then she makes the mistake of slurping her coffee. I'm sure TC is about to faint and not because she's pregnant.
Casa de Manuel y Celeste
Manuel is watching the new while Celeste is sewing a button on one of his shirts. ¡Rápido! he barks. On TV he sees Sol skipping and blowing kisses down the red carpet and demands to know how she got in. Celeste tells him she gave her permission to go. Sol is excited to hear that she was on TV. Manuel goes to hit her and whacks Celeste instead. Sol tells him Pat gave her Antonio's invitation because she didn't think he would make it. Manuel will check out this story and if she's lying he'll take the belt to both of them. Quick an anvil the size of Florida for Manuel!
Beach scenes
Paloma gives Doña Olga a massage.
Amalia is looking for Doña Olga.
Macho volleyball players make fun of Ro and the dogs. One says he resembles TC more every time he sees him and calls Ro "cinquentona" (a fiftyish yr old woman).
Lots of FF material.
Chez Palmer
TC goes to get the money to pay Gris who looks at the family pictures in the living room. She picks up the one of Reinaldo. TC catches her and asks if there is anything between her and Reinaldo. Gris is flustered and just tells TC what a great life she has. TC says that she didn't take it the wrong way because if she had she could pulverize her. Gris takes her money and then bumps into Ro with the dogs on the way out.
TC notices that Gris looks at Reinaldo... the same way Ro does.
Universidad
Antonio is looking at computer photos of actresses and settles on one named Mirna Bello.
Chez Palmer
Manuel asks Patricia if Sol is telling the truth about the invitation. She confirms that she gave it to her.
Taco Bar
Gris curses her bad luck with the lottery but knows that one day she will win. Reinaldo arrives to sample the famous mole.
Apartment
Antonio meets Mirna Bello and proposes that he play his mother for one night.
Thanks for the recap, Sue! I can't tune in to this one regularly, so I'm using the recaps to decide which episodes I want to watch, although after such detailed summaries it's almost unnecessary!
The actor playing Rosario was also a baddie in Relaciones Peligrosas... this tn is quite the RP reunion! Antonio & his sister, Rosario, Ester, and I'm thinking there are some others that I can't remember right now.
OTHER
The promos for Santa Diabla look great! I'm excited for that one, although the revenge plot is getting a little worn out for me right now. Love Gaby Espino though, and am curious to see if Aaron Dias has improved since his Teresa days...
If Gris was skinny dipping where I think she was, you just wouldn't do it, at least not in the last 30 years.
I see the jetties there, so I think its Govt Cut into the port of Miami. Lots of buildings, restaurants & lots of people besides Reinaldo strolling around
http://marinas.com/view/inlet/125_Government_Cut_Inlet_Miami_Beach_FL_United_States
Bert feels like a man now. He gives Matilde a present, a bottle of champagne. She likes this, they get a few more bottles, proceed to drink themselves into a nice buzz. Chacorta arrives, isn’t too happy, he told Bert to make sure Mati DIDN’T drink, but hey, the boy’s becoming a man. Aurelio wants to see him. Mati later throws up, Chacorta sees this, wonders if she’s pregnant, she tells him no way, but privately, she thinks she is. And what if the baby is Bert’s?!!
Aurelio tells Bert he’s going to have more responsibility now, and sends him to Mexico City to keep an eye on Cabo. He also tells Bert that while Bert has been using grandpa’s old gun (or at least one given to Aurelio long ago, and the one used to kill Alejandro), why not use this newer one, which has lots of kills on it? He gives Bert his gun, which I think was the one he just used to kill Eugenia!
Cabo and Topo have come to an agreement, and Topo leaves, satisfied. Cabo wants to celebrate with Mónica, and since he’s given her this business deal, he wants her to be his exclusive babe, and stop seeing Aurelio. F that, she replies. First of all, NO one owns me. Second, I don’t like your tone, trading business for me, I don’t work that way. I see who I wish. As for Aurelio, I’ll handle him. So let’s just go slow. She gets all sexy on him, you know I dig you, Cabo, and they have sex again.
Meanwhile, Aurelio is mad, not knowing where Cabo is, and when he finally shows up, Aurelio says where the hell have you been?! Cabo says it’s his private business, but Aurelio gets on his high horse, it IS my business when one of your guys points a gun at the head of my brother! He tells Cabo, that just isn’t done. So are you going to kill Tijeras, or should I? (!) Cabo pauses quite a while, says I’ll handle it, but give me time. (No way would he kill Tijeras, but this is not looking good). Later, Bert comes to keep an eye on Cabo and Tijeras. There are tons of other guards of Aurelio’s around. Cabo and Tijeras persuade Bert that they can go out with just him, who needs these other guards. Bert, full of himself, says sure, why not?
At the funeral, all pay their respects to Marco. He then tells the President I need to see you privately. Benitez points out this is against protocol. But the President agrees anyway, screw protocol when we’ve got these killers out there. After he leaves, Marco tells Benitez he’s going to tell the President about the Cardinal’s suspicions that Ramiro, the President’s own cousin, is involved with the druglords, and that there’s a lot of evidence confirming this, maybe Ramiro even ordered the Cardinal’s murder. Benitez agrees, but wants to be present at the meeting tomorrow.
Marco then goes to visit Danny, are you happy now, that thug Casillas killed Eugenia! Danny says he’s sorry. A little late, says Marco, then shows him piles of bank records. This proves that huge sums of money went into your accounts, from druglords. So what, says Danny, you got me. Big deal. No, General, we have your WIFE! We can prove that she was involved in all of this. And we’re going to have her extradited, so if you want to do something positive, you’d better start talking NOW! Danny gulps again.
Irina calls Aurelio, come see me. He does, but when he arrives, Ramiro pops out, how DARE you kill that reporter, you IDIOT! Aurelio does not like to be called an idiot. At all. After a bit of macho posturing, Ramiro lays down the law, if Aurelio wants their relationship to continue, he’s going to have to do another favor. A big one. Kill the next President of Colombia (Colmenares)!
Mónica calls, and by Aurelio’s voice, she guesses he’s with Irina. No, says Aurelio, I’m just doing a business deal. From the background, Irina shouts out, why don’t you just tell her I’m here, honey, doesn’t she have the right to know? Mónica is furious, I KNEW it! Aurelio tries to calm her down, but she hangs up. She tells Triste I’m going to kill them both, NOW! Wait, says Triste, you’re all upset. If you go in like that, things aren’t going to work out right. You need to calm down. She doesn’t want to. Please Patrona, think. I got you the phone number at the ranch. You can call Ximena and tell her about Don Cleto. Right, she says, takes a drink of whiskey, gets out her phone.
Back at the ranch, Ximena is upset about Bert going off the Mexico City, she’s lost him. She asks Turco if Aurelio killed the reporter, but she really knows the answer, even though he, as usual, won’t confirm anything. She just can’t take it anymore. He tells her don’t worry, I’m working on getting you and the girls out, and I brought you a present. She opens a little jewel case, it’s a necklace with a diamond pendant in the shape of an L. It stands for libertad (freedom), he tells her quietly, this symbolizes what we will have. Ximena, you know how I feel about you, now that your relationship with Aurelio is all but over, can you admit you have feelings for me? She doesn’t want to say it out loud, but when he leans in for a kiss, she doesn’t resist. They kiss tenderly, all the problems of the world just fading away, a beautiful connection that no one can sever. Except that Chacorta has just walked into the ranch, and SEES EVERYTHING!
thanks so much AnotherAmy,
love your recaps and comments,
yeah, I was confused by Gina and the pictures too,
to start with who's pictures were they,
are they Gina's, and Marge is prying into her stuff,
or are they Marge's, and Gina rudely rips them out of her hands,
(and of course Marge just does this vacant smile thingy, how medicated is she)
and then the pic (I went back and looked) Marge was looking at is similar, but different, than the one Gina ripped up, so there must be a whole set of them but only that one got destroyed, hmm, so maybe it wasn't so much the picture, but more like Gina's frustration, I wonder what her plan is, she must have returned to get some kind of revenge.
and look how Lupita ran for the door when Gina stared zeroing in on her.
Thanks, Sue, that was a wonderful recap, lots of humor, good observations.
Another Amy, we're also going to have Daniela Navarro on this show. She was detective Olivia Kloster on Relaciones, who was obsessed with Gabriel Colonel's character. In this show, she's going to be the ex wife of K. She's one of my absolute favorite actresses, very good at playing the villain (but she also played innocent Clara on Corazon Valiente).
wow, such a detailed recap Sue455,
and super comments as well,
AND, spanish lessons.
I totally missed Kike looking at his wedding picture,
lots of frustration there,
I'm loving how Sonya Smith is doing this part,
Griselda has the swagger of a competent handyman,
slurping her black coffee,
but when she swoons on Reinaldo,
you can see the woman inside bubbling up,
ah yes Antonio's plan, can I see the word doomed,
starting to appear on his forehead,
and Mirna Bello...
played by Elluz Peraza
"El Fantasma de Elena" the tortured mother of Elena
"Mi Corazón Insiste", Andrés' (Jencarlos Canela) mother that died in a plane crash
speaking of planes,
what about sharing a charter flight with a giant box of semen,
how much was in there?
that Manuel sure is a nightmare, beating on his family,
but didn't Griselda threaten him, and he didn't do anything,
another great one Hombre,
I was skeptical of Turco keeping Alejandro's body as proof,
but the way Beto is collecting the murder weapons, duh!
so I guess they are still considering using Matilde to find some new Colombian connections,
interesting to watch the president arrive, the room fills with his guys first,
Danny seems to be running out of options,
doesn't he have any friends,
it seems Don Cleto warned Aurelio of two things,
his love life,
and getting involved with the government.
Thanks for the lovey recap Sue!
Loved the coffe slurping scene and the faces TC made over it, I wonder how long it took to capture that without either of the actresses burst out laughing.
S.S. is doing a really good job.
Manuel needs and anvil like yesterday, I'd really like somebody (Griselda??) beating him up just to get a taste of his own medicine.
I haven't seen the actress who plays the "fake" mother since El Rostro de Analía she sure put on a lot of weight since than.
Hi, I commented anonymously last week. Thanks again for the recaps.
On the Mireya/Neto conversation at the ceremony: I didn't catch every word, but Neto started by asking her if she was ready to put the rope around her neck, uh, I mean the ring on your finger. She said she was born ready for it. He kept pushing his luck, and she said she was right to tell him not to come back there and that she didn't want problems. That's when he said he was her solution.
They're setting up doubt about whether Gina is who she says she is. Margarita marvels at the how much time--and money--can change a person. The photo seems to be a picture of the two of them when they were young (M&G). Then she says to herself that Gina is so changed she could swear sometimes that she was another.
I don't know how they can manage that with Estela and Alfonsina having already recognized her, either, but something is definitely fishy with Gina.
Thanks for the kind words. It's been a long time since I recapped a novela. It petered out at the end of Part 4 because I had to be somewhere. I'll try to cut down next week.
Variopinta: When all else fails I check el Diccionario de la Real Academia. I didn't find melocochería but I did find melocochero which is a maker/seller of melcocha, a type of drink made with honey. So melocochería sounds like a made up word meaning sweetness.
You know more about Miami than I do. Hard to believe there is a deserted beach in the area.
J-NYC: Yes "zorra" does mean whore though it doesn't say that in my dictionary. We learned that from watching novelas! I said the less offensive "bitch" because I couldn't believe K would call his son's mother a whore right in front of him, even if Kikito didn't know what it meant. (And "bitch" isn't an improvement.) K never did tell him what a gigolo is.
Sexism exists in every language. In English we use "their" to agree with a singular subject so we don't have the messy his/her. In Spanish a group of girls with one boy is referred to as "muchachos." I remember protesting that in my first year Spanish class.
Deb: Thank you. I watched Amor Bravío and we often had discussions about words and phrases that I found interesting and I hope others find them interesting too.
Irisz79: Yes Gris did threaten to hit Manuel "where the sun don't shine."
Fabulous stuff, AnotherAmy. Loved the bit with Lupita's pregnancy and the *ahem* subtle nature of the scenes. I
I am having to watch this online and I've only watched the first 2 segments, but I'm going to be so sad if Gina turns out to be shady. I like her and her spunk. Maybe Mariano being back in town will clear up some things.
Very clever AnotherAmy, thanks so much! I enjoy how you sprinkle in palabritas en espanol.
Family "full of voracious readers," ha.
Couldn't tell what was with those old family photos. Bummer if spunky Gina turns out to be running some scam, and it certainly seems that way. If Gina's identity is shady, she really lucked out with her timing! She managed to appear just as Margarita is developing health/memory issues.
Yes, she is squeaky, and yes, it was predictable, but I feel really bad for Lupita. Ruben was so nasty to her before, and now...
Clara
She managed to appear just as Margarita is developing health/memory issues.
And she *did* rather pointedly make a comment about "all the meds" the docs had her on. Sketchy? Or am I overthinking?
There isn't a deserted beach in Miami except during a hurricane, even then the surfers are out.
That area where Gris skinny dipped is South Beach.
We go down to Joe's Stone Crab & Smith & Wollensky occasionly. From S&W, you can watch the ships go in & out & probably Gris skinny dipping.
Thanks so much for the fine recap, AnotherAmy!
Yep, as soon as Margarita mused about how much Gina had changed and said Gina rather viciously tore up her supposed sister's family photo, I was thinking imposter. But everyone recognized her, including Estela and Abuela! Odd.
This "marriage" is going on the rocks really, really fast. Now that Tomás has moved Ignacia and the whole family into that house, he plans to run a dictatorship. I couldn't believe the way he grilled her when she got back, as if she had no right to leave the house without his prior approval! Gah!
Thanks for a fine recap, Sue.
BTW, I've seen the nickname for "Enrique" often spelled as QUIQUE.
Thanks, Sue, for the great recap! I am really liking this show. Several of the actors are Venezuelan, and they speak such beautiful Spanish. And I love catching Juan Soler "shushing" when he speaks. :)
BTW, on Abismo we had an Enrique and we spelled his nickname "Quique" for just the reasons you mention.
This is a bit of an El Tal reunion, too: the two cousins are now playing Daniel and Rafa, and the maid from el Alcatraz is now the maid at the Palmers'.
HA HA Dexter's kitchen. I love the apartment so I'm with Abuela. Though I can't imagine Estela and Reuben reading those books; they're too shallow.
Now exceedingly curious as to what Gina is up to. It looks like she has issues with Marge as well as with Estela.
Tomás gets more controlling every day. Ditch him Ignacia!
Blue Lass, I thought we called him Quique because that was his name. If I had known we were being PC, I would have felt more self-righteous, in a contrary-to-fact conditional sort of way.
There is life for actors after El Tal. Well maybe not so much for Rafael Novoa ...
Blue Lass: Thanks for the tip. I'll just keep abbreviating his name to K. But I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that way.
Sue455, thanks VERY much for the excellent recap, complete with humor and some Spanish vocab. I like that you're referring to Kike as K, since my English-speaking brain also has trouble processing "Kike" as "KeeKay."
I was amused at Antonio's choice to play his mother. Mirra Bello looks like a puta, and a fairly low-class one at that.
Thanks for the wonderful funny recap AnotherAmy.
Loved all the pregnancy hints, full of voracious readers family and the Charlie's angels hair.
This marriage was doomed before it even started, run Ignacia, run!! Tomás is a poco loco y extremely controlling.
Interesting notion Gina not being Gina, there are indications but everybody immediately recognized her when she showed up and she's way too fond of Pedro and also all those scenes when they show her hurt while Pedro rejected her or called Marge mama, and those flashback to the miscarriage staircase and all.
She's such a straightforward and spunky character I don't want her to be on the dark side!
Muchas gracias, Hombre, for the superb recap. It never occurred to me that the gun Aurelio gave Beto was the one he used to kill Eugenia. That could lead to some interesting complications!
I was surprised that Turco and Ximena let their guard down enough to kiss. They're not exactly alone on a desert isle. I now think it's likely that Turco won't make it out alive, and I'm not all that confident about Ximena, either. OTOH, if Mónica does tell her about Aurelio's admission that he killed Don Cleto, Ximena may be out for vengeance of her own.
Lots of excitement ahead!
Sue, I loved your recap! It was extremely funny and you pointed out some of the things I noticed, too.
Like the fact that TC wasn't wearing makeup in bed. I think Maritza Rodriguez deserves a big round of applause for this, I haven't seen many actresses do it, but it just adds realism to a scene.
I kind of love the banter between TC and Gris, they are so different and yet I think each could learn a thing or two from the other.
I can't help but look forward to the moment Antonio introduces "Giselle" to Patty's family. The actress that plays the role has great comedic timing, I think we'll have a good laugh with Gris and her crazy behavior and this woman impersonating a Texas rancher.
I have to admit I'm really starting to like this show quite a lot, today's episode clicked with me.
I'll take care of tomorrow's recap, let's see what happens when Reinaldo and Gris meet on Gabriel's territory.
Thanks, Hombre, for the terrific recap.
Ximena is about ready to blow. She was furious no one had told her that her son was dispatched to the big city to further his crime education.
I'm wondering if Chacorta's entering the room will somehow be a red herring and he won't really have seen Turco and Ximena kissing. I held my breath when he kissed her, going "No, No, No!! Idiots! Someone will see you!"
I think Cabo WOULD kill Tijeras. He'd miss him, but I think he's as heartless as Aurelio.
Well, our suspicions were confirmed that Beto could be the father of Mathilde's child. She had that flashback of telling him to forget about a condom.
Come on, Mónica, call Ximena tonight. I can hardly wait!
Many thanks Hombre. AC's women are all about to go nuclear on him-- La Rusa and Monica are ready to kill each other, and Ximena is already lost to him emotionally, and ready to blow about being kept a prisoner and having her son pulled into the world of crime. Wait till she finds out about Don Cleto!
I also think the ending is a red herring and Chacorta doesn't see the kiss. It was a very sweet kiss (as was the freedom pendant), but such a dangerous place for them to do it!
I loved Monica telling Cabo that she belongs to no one, and will sleep with whomever she wants. Of course, we know the one she wants the most is AC.
If Mati isn't admitting she's pregnant, I wonder if she plans to have an abortion before anyone finds out?
Good points raised about Gina having been recognized, and fawning over Pedro, being hurt by his rejection. She just looked so nervous when Margarita was talking about how much she'd changed... my beanie must've been just a little too tight :) I'm SO curious about this development though!
MARIDO
So Daniela Navarro is joining the cast (thanks Hombre) and I just noticed that Paloma is the actress that played Clementina on RP as well (she looks much younger in this, as does Esther!)! Hmmm... who else is going to pop up???
Sara C, I had the same thought when she mentioned all the medications! I wonder if there's been some tampering going on...
I don't want to lose Gina's spunky "stand up for your family" character either. I will be so sad if this is the direction it goes :( Although, that being said, surely there will be redemption in her future.
Thanks, AnotherAmy, for your great recaps and comments. I'm not able to watch DyO very much but your summaries have kept me up to date. I'm having trouble with the Ignor-acia/Tomas marriage, but, hey! this is a TN! Thanks again.
Beth
Hombre - thanks for another great recap. The tension just keeps growing!
The gun AC gave Beto looked different to me - darker and a bit smaller than the silver toned cannon AC used to kill Eugenia. But it may have been the lighting and/or my TV that made the two guns look different.
Could Mati even get an abortion in Mexico at the time of this TN? I realize that black market abortions are always available, but Mati would have extreme difficulty getting away from the ranch and bodyguards now that Alejandro is no longer an alibi for her absence and Beto has been reassigned to the DF.
I'm hoping Chacorta has not walked in on the Turco/Ximena kiss and that it's something else that caught his attention.
I could see the little rat in Cabo's mind running overtime on the wheel when AC told him to kill Tijeras - "take all the time you need", but kill him. Cabo doesn't want to do it, but he's between a rock and AC. I'm sure he's looking at other options.
We know Chui said he sent the stiff off to Randy, but we haven't heard that Randy received the shipment.
I don't think Irina fully realizes what Monica is capable of doing.
Beth
Sue - thanks so much for a terrific recap. I love your humorous asides.
I know Gris is just not into Gabriel, but I like him so much, I hope he can find a wonderful woman by the end of this TN.
Gris and the fake mom have got to meet - soon. Should be hilarious.
So Kikito (?Quiquito) knows his mother and apparently loves her. Maybe she has a few redeeming qualities?
Beth
Beth, yes, I love Gabriel, too. He's handsome and loves Gris the way she is. Juan Soler is ok, but I like my galans dark like JLP. Would have loved to see him in something funny like this-he can only brood for so long, though he broods well, and he and SS apparently are one of the best TN couples of all time.
Just what is wrong with queso fresco that TC is turning her nose down at? It's good stuff!
CIELOS
I'm holding out hope for Tijeras. I know he's a murderous, torturing drug dealer, but I would miss his flowery shirts and boyish ways (when he's not torturing). Looks like Cabo will get him away and Beto becomes the fall guy. Welcome to the family business, Beto.
Kelly
Couple of questions:
Why is Margarita taking medications if she hasn't even gone back for the results of her biopsy yet? What happened to Ignacia's offer to find her the best doctor etc? Who has morning sickness at 3 weeks pregnant? Is Gina actually some random stranger with a face transplant?
Just idle curiosity...
J in Oregon
There was a "time is passing montage" a few eps back showing Mags going to the doctor (among other things.)
I got morning sickness pretty soon after getting pregnant. Three weeks is believable to me.
Face transplant- LOL!!!!!
So I erased the episode after I watched it the first time without taking notes and am going to have to watch it online later, but here are a few things I remember...
Lupita's reveal to Ruben doesn't go well (was anyone holding their breath on this one?) and he is insulting and heartless... this is YOUR problem, not mine. Etc. She runs home, and in a panic puts the pregnancy test results in a drawer (um, wouldn't the purse you are wearing be a better idea? Wow.)... now taking bets on who will find them.
More insinuations that Gina isn't who she said she was (plastic surgery?)... Estela says she seems different, and Gina talks to herself in the mirror touching her face and saying Mariano will be her final, and most difficult, test.
Tomas is obsessed with who Ignacia is "cheating" with, and his obsession is starting to interfere in his extramarital activities with Karina.
Marge dolls herself up for her cine date with Olegario, and they both have fun. But Oleg's still just interested being friends and wants aboard the U.S.S. Gina. He is denied, emphatically.
Pedro returns to work at the obra, and flashes his engagement ring at Ignacia in a hilariously non-non-chalant attempt at being non-chalant. He looks like such a girl as he holds his hand out so she can look at his ring, totally made me laugh. By the way, I've never heard of this ring-blessing ceremony (and the man wearing a ring, too) before... is this a common practice in Mexican culture?
Oops! Have to go... I'll check back in with more details later! 'ta luego!
Thanks AnotherAmy! USS Gina was a great line. I'm kind of bummed that they going with the "Gina is a fraud" plot. I like her. And why is she doing it? If she can afford that plastic surgery she clearly doesn't need money. And if she's not the real Gina why revenge?
Part 1
Gris sees Reinaldo at the Taco Bar and hides behind a counter. Gabriel and K question her behavior, but she manages to get rid of them and sneaks out. At this point Reinaldo is outside, too, with his taco (nice to know fancy Chefs still enjoy a taco every now and then).
Gris manages to run to her van, but TN Gods decided she and Reinaldo must meet, so her engine refuses to start. Reinaldo sees her, offers to help, he is very joyful and obliging; Gris refuses, wants him to go, but he’ll have none of this: he has cables in his car and he can help her start her van.
After they finish and Reinaldo is so happy you’d think he’s saved her from the desert and wants to celebrate, Gabriel shows up, wanting to know what is the deal with the new guy. He is jealous, Gris wants to get rid of both of them, asks them to get back to their work, because she can manage. They both act like some silly teenager both trying to gain the attention of the most popular girl in school.
When she is finally in her car, Reinaldo calls Gris again, expressing his joy for having been able to help her and asking her to call him a “friend” next time he introduces him to someone.
Getting back home, Gris has the unpleasant surprise of catching her daughter Amalia and Rafael in a somewhat compromising position: they are kissing and it might be innocent enough, only it isn’t because before she showed up, Rafael was about to jump on Amalia.
Gris threatens to hit him with a metallic wrench, doesn’t want to hear his explanations that they weren’t doing anything wrong (yeah, right) and that he’s Antonio’s friend (like that would help his case) – the fact that he calls her crazy doesn’t help much, either, Gris throws him out.
After that she has an emotional talk with Amalia, explains her that she does trust her, but she doesn’t trust Rafael and she is sure if she hadn’t showed up when she did, who knows what would have happened. She makes Amelia promise that she’ll try to find out more information about Rafael before things evolve between them – but I have a feeling Amalia will fall prey to this very shady character.
In the meantime, at Casa Teresa Cristina, she’s decided to join her husband for lunch because it’s Vanessa’s first day of work. You have to hand to TC, she really knows how to smell other women’s interest in her husband, because while Reinaldo is explaining Vanessa some stuff about the restaurant, it’s obvious that she is crushing on him hard.
While doing stuff in the restaurant, Reinaldo can’t help but think about Gris. And so it begins…
TC arrives at the restaurant with all her usual circus-like manners. Reinaldo explains her that they can’t eat together because he’s very busy, but TC isn’t here for him, she came to have lunch with Vanessa.
Once they are both seated, a waiter comes to pour them some wine and spills a drop on the table cloth. Oh, the horror! TC makes a scene in the middle of the restaurant, asks for the waiter to be fired, because not only he didn’t serve the wine the proper way (on the right), but he also spilled it. Reinaldo tries to calm her, but when has that ever worked? She reminds him she is a partner at the restaurant, too, and, after all, she is how she is, that’s what he signed up for. Reinaldo seems resigned, but we know better.
TC leaves the restaurant in a fury, after finally “allowing” Vanessa to work for her husband; there is a catch, though, as we find out when she gets home: if Vanessa now has a job, then TC won’t pay for her studies anymore.
Back at the restaurant, Reinaldo has a talk with the waiter and tells him he’s not fired, but he’ll have to come earlier every day to learn the craft and become the best waiter ever. Vanessa looks on and is completely smitten with Reinaldo.
Part 2
In Antonio’s world of fake mothers and even faker riches, he and “Giselle” have reached an agreement: he’ll pay her to impersonate his rich mother for one representation (but we just know one won’t be enough). She realizes why he needs someone to play pretend for him, there is a trace of displeasure in her expression, but a girl’s gotta eat, right? She asks for 5.000 $, Antonio only has 2.500, so there is no deal, for now.
So, off he goes to borrow money from Rafael. At first he is turned down, but then Rafael realizes he can take advantage of the situation and proposes a pact: he’ll lend him the money if Antonio speaks with Gris about his good character and morals, because he wants to date Amalia. Antonio has the slightest moment of reluctance, but pimping out his sister is definitely worth the 2.500 $, because he ends up accepting the deal, provided he gets a motto, too (gotta appreciate his negotiation skills).
He gives “Giselle” the money as an advance, but refuses to sign a contract, so they settle on a verbal agreement.
In their romantic trip, Esther and Juan Pablo talk about the possibility of in vitro. Esther thinks they concentrated so much on them as a couple and their business, but there is something missing – she wants a baby. Apparently he is the one who can’t have kids and he doesn’t agree to get a donor’s sperm, either. They have a fight, he asks her to drop the subject.
When night comes Antonio goes back home, snarks a little at his mother and his siblings and acts like the jerk that he usually is. He doesn’t forget to praise Rafael for being a great guy and the best boyfriend material in the whole wide world, though.
The next morning Gris decides to wear a dress, for the first time since forever (is it the dress Antonio offered her?). All her kids think she looks very pretty, Antonio doesn’t waste the opportunity to say “I told you so!”
Later on Gris visits Celeste, who has had problems with that sorry excuse of a husband she has again. After finding out that his daughter didn’t lie about the fashion show ticket, he decided to ground her anyway, not allowing her to go to her dance classes during the weekend. Even so, Celeste can’t leave him, she’d never be able to manage on her own like Gris does.
The two friends talk about Antonio being an ungrateful son and Gris says that he was always her favorite or something similar – and this bothers me to no end, especially since in the scene before with Amalia the girl even asked if she loves her as much as Antonio – NO child should ever feel they are not equally loved by their mother – I’m sorry, but this is just bad parenting.
By the end of the episode “Giselle” goes through a transformation: she buys a fancy dress and shoes, changes her hair cut, becomes a true lady (now if she could only watch her tongue).
Overjoyed that his “fake mother” plan is working, Antonio goes to the University in search of Patricia, just in time to appease some of the doubts TC has managed to put in her head earlier; his mom is coming to visit, so they’ll all be able to meet her.
I need clarification. Gina says she needs to take care of Mireya and get her out of her way. Why is Mireya a problem? I'm watching the episode right now and Gina has gone full on sketchy. I'm really disappointed by this turn of events. Lol
Thanks Another Amy, for the mini recap, it hit all the highlights. Seems the last few episodes are leaving us with many unanswered questions.
I, too, was puzzled by Gina's remark about gettng rid of Mireya. And then, she was going on to Margarita about spending all those years cleaning other people's toilets, something about revenge. And Marg says are you talking about revenge on Estela? And Gina says No, someone else. Que the heck???
I want my old Gina back!!!
J in Oregon
Thanks Adriana,
I just skimed over the episode this morning and I'd say Gris in that dress without makeup looked wayyyyyyyyyyy better than 'fake' mother in her best.
Get gack later and read the full recap.
Thanks Another Amy!
USS Gina, where is she going and what is her mission?
Sara C, my thought re Mireya was that she was a rival for Pedro's affection? Or Gina doesn't want the marriage to go forward for some reason. Trying to push Pedro toward Ignacia for money/revenge/blackmail re parentage?
Nothing Gina seems logical at this point, but this is my main interest since Ignoracia went through with wedding. Writers haven't shown us anything positive about that relationship or about Tomas.
Clara
Clara-Maybe "rival for affection" is the angle, but from the beginning I have felt like "Gina" (whoever she may be) is in the know (so she thinks) about Iggy and Pedro being siblings and she was pretty convincing about keeping them apart. Maybe she's just irked that Mireya is such a metiche?
I have to hand it to the writers, this show is simplistic, yet at the same time I am dying to know what is up with Gina. And what about that weird scene with that guy talking about an "accident" and no one finding out?
I'm still scratching my head over the Igna-rante/Nomas wedding. That was the most miserable looking affair I have ever seen. Did Iggy make her "conditions" thinking Nomas would balk and she'd have a way to cancel the wedding and save face? She seemed pretty shell-shocked when he accepted them.
Sara C, Gina "irked that Mireya is such a metiche," maybe Gina wants metiche Mireya out of the way for space to unfold her plot, whatever it is?
Could be amusing if Gina stumbled on Mireya walking around the house [no spoiler!]
Maybe Gina suspects/knows Iggy's true padre is not Mariano, but Enrique? Gina was working in Estela's house at the time, wasn't she? Kinda confused on the chronology here.
That guy Gina met up with last epi was pretty creepy. I could barely follow that convo, but I caught he was saying there were no witnesses. This must be something separate from whatever she's onto now?
Okay, maybe Iggy wanted a graceful exit if Nomas had rejected her conditions, but once he accepted them, there was still time to call it off. And why didn't she add conditions like stop being a controlling jerk, don't bring my entire family into the home and try to run their lives too, etc.
Well at least the Gina angle is intriguing for now!
Clara
I'm more & more worried about Turco. I'm afraid he is the one in the opening credits that AC is torching.
Does Chacorta know or suspect that AC slept with Matilde? Could be a reason that he doesn't say anything to AC about the kiss, just yet. He gave Turco a pat on the shoulder, but I thought the look on his face was ominous. A little blackmail maybe?
thanks so much AnotherAmy!
hmm, the "ring"
some things I've found,
to start with, interesting that, "Men's wedding rings are somewhat of a new phenomenon."
"In the United States, it was very rare for a groom to receive a ring before World War II. Yet, during the war, rings became symbols of wives left at home, and their popularity soared. Post-war prosperity allowed even more couples to afford this extra piece of jewelry, and eventually it became the standard. Ever since then, more and more married men each year choose to wear a man's wedding ring."
ref: http://weddings.about.com/cs/weddingbands/a/mensrings.htm
on Royal Weddings, Prince William and Kate,
"William chose not to wear a ring of his own, so we can't say that they "exchanged rings.""
ref: http://weddings.about.com/od/williamandkate/ig/Prince-William-and-Kate-s-Wedding-Photos/Prince-William-Puts-Ring-on-Kate-s-Finger.htm
on the man's engagement ring,
one opinion, ""We're in a rough economy. The groom's engagement band is just a sales tactic invented by jewelers to trick young couples into spending money. I don't think we've reached the point where we'll be seeing a man showing off his shiny new engagement ring to his buddies."
ahem, but Pedro looked so cute,
another, "We get maybe 20 to 25 inquiries a week from women who want to propose,"
on the engagement ceremony, catholic,
"It used to be called a Betrothal Blessing. You can have your engagement ring blessed at the same time. It does not mean you have to marry the person if things don't work out- but it is very lovely way to start the engagement process."
"The Engagement Party
The parents of the bride usually host the engagement party. The parish priest conducts the engagement ceremony. The ceremony consists of a brief prayer service. The couple exchanges engagement rings that have been blessed by the parish priest. The ceremony over, there is a small celebration in the form of a formal dinner or cocktail party."
ref: http://www.aryashaadi.com/UserArticle/article/catholic_marriage.aspx#A1
Oh that would be SUPER amusing!!
Deb-Thanks for the ring info! I had no idea that the male wedding ring tradition was so relatively new. I had to laugh at "I don't think we've reached the point where we'll be seeing a man showing off his shiny new engagement ring to his buddies." Pedro did indeed look cute.
Those writers sure love to tease us. Or leaving us hanging. Or surprise us. It can get a little frustrating at times, but it certainly keeps me watching. And hoping that SOME day, we’ll have some payback, not just the continual procession of deaths to the police and related good guys.
Rant over, let’s get started. So, does Chacorta catch Ximena and Turco kissing? Well, we don’t even know THAT! He comes in, and looks over, but maybe something blocked his view, and Ximena has pulled away. I’m thinking he did see them. Chacorta tells Turco he’s playing with fire (even if Chacorta didn’t see the kissing, he saw the closeness).
I’m really starting to think Turco is about to jump ship from Aurelio. Topo meets with Randy, and Randy tells him that Aurelio’s time may be past, they may be moving on without him, new arrangements. And at the end of the episode, Topo meets with Turco, who is introduced as the Trojan. I think their discussion was in the previews, so I won’t mention it, but it’s looking more and more as if Turco is moving on.
Marco has his meeting with the President. He tells him that they are almost sure Ramiro is involved, and may have ordered the assassination of the Cardinal. No, they don’t have proof, and that’s why they (Marco and Benitez) haven’t come to the President earlier, but with all these killings, they felt he should know. Marco tells him about the call from Ramiro’s wife, the black book, her disappearance, etc. The President stands up, walks around, thinks a bit, and then sort of totally waffles. He supports them, but you know, with the delicate political situation, this could hurt Colmenares, let’s not bring this out now. In fact, I’LL talk to Ramiro (great). But you guys can continue full steam ahead against Danny, and against Casillas. Okay, at least that’s still going.
One thing I left out in the last recap was that the police, especially Leo, have decided to keep an eye on Mónica, maybe she’ll lead them to Aurelio. So far, she hasn’t left her house. She’s been drinking. She finally gets up the courage to call Ximena. But when Xime answers the phone, Mónica wimps out, doesn’t say a word, and hangs up. Then she drinks all night, and in the morning, Triste finds her, having not slept a wink (no le pegó un ocho en toda la noche). He asks her to rest. She says okay. But as soon as he leaves, she tells another guard, I’m going out. And don’t tell Triste.
Cabo and Tijeras have convinced Bert that they can go out without any other guards, just the three of them and Canijo. But Cabo sees the mass of other guards waiting outside, and knows it won’t work. They’ll be ambushed. He fakes a stomach ache, tells Bert another day, and goes upstairs with Tijeras. Don’t you see, he tells him, they want to KILL you! Tijeras is shocked, and isn’t any happier when they look out the window. There are guards everywhere. The two of them are basically trapped here in the safe house. Tijeras tells Cabo, no matter what happens, I just want to thank you for all you’ve done for me. Cabo doesn’t want to hear about it. They’ve got to think of something. Aurelio arrives downstairs, meets with Bert, who tells him how they wanted to go out with just him and Canijo, but then Cabo got a stomach ache. Aurelio says something stinks about this. Tell you what, young man. Here’s your next job. Whack Tijeras. Okay, Pa, no problem.
By this time, Mónica has left her house. She’s stuffed herself into one of those minidresses, and donned dark glasses to hide her drunk, hang dog, mascara ridden face. The cops see her leave, call Leo, who says follow her, we may find their hideout. And they do! Leo gets the call where the safe house is, as the cops watch Mónica’s SUVs go in. Leo calls Marco, who leaves his meeting with the President, we’ve got an operation in progress! Everyone speeds to the hideout.
Mónica enters, yells at Aurelio, where is that bitch? (She’s still in Irina mode, even though we know Irina left a while back. Speaking of Irina, she’d heard Ramiro tell Aurelio to kill Colmenares, and tells Ramiro that’s a big mistake. But he shoots back, if we don’t put down Colmenares, we’re through!). Back to Mónica, she then yells out to Aurelio what about his killing his suegro, and he SLAPS her, hard. He then tries to calm her down, but she’s not listening. Upstairs, Cabo and Tijeras hear the commotion, and come down the stairs, guns drawn, don’t you mess with Mónica! Aurelio is trying to calm everyone down, and tensions lower for a bit. Aurelio tells Bert to take Tijeras for a “walk”’. Cabo knows what’s going on, but what can he do? Bert goes outside with Tijeras and about 5 guards. He tells him sorry, buddy, but my Pa said you gotta go. He pulls out his new gun. Tijeras tries to pull HIS gun out, but the 5 guards grab him, and Bert knocks it away. Fine, says Tijeras, as Bert hesitates. Kill me NOW. Bert tells him, I’ll kill you when I’m ready. He aims, and...
Here come the cops! Led by Marco and Leo, shots go flying. At first we see Bert fall, but he wasn’t hit, he gets up. It doesn’t appear that Tijeras has been shot either. Everyone’s scrambling. Two guards are hit, one is Chiparra, who was the very same guy who was guarding Danny, giving them that message and that tie, and Aurelio had promised him lots of money. Won’t be able to spend it now. Don’t know if Canijo was hit.
Inside the house, Aurelio, Mónica and Cabo are scrambling towards the back door. Turco is called. Chacorta is called. Xime calls Aurelio and hears the shots. So everyone knows there’s a police raid. But will the police finally catch their man? Who are we kidding?
great story and great recap Hombre,
so the good guys run in the front door and the bad guys run out the back door, (I'm surprised the good guys never catch on), and I didn't see Beto or Tijeras with them, but there is the pull Mónica in half, as to who she escapes with, Cabo or Aurelio,
(let this be a lesson, Mónica never cut out your enforcer, Triste)
the guard with Danny, was there anything of note in his conversation with Aurelio, or was he just picking up his money. Danny still hasn't made his statement yet, has he,
I don't watch the avances but did see the Turco/Topo meet, Topo is suspicious but rather than call off the deal, he is going along, right?
and the Prez talking to Ramiro, talk about a loose end, but I guess as Marco puts it, he doesn't have to worry about getting on Aurelio's hit list, because he is already there.
AnotherAmy - thanks for your recap. I loved "Tomas is obsessed with who Ignacia is "cheating" with, and his obsession is starting to interfere in his extramarital activities with Karina". This marriage story line is such a sham, the writers should be ashamed of themselves!
Beth
Variopinta, Topo has met Turco before. He just didn't know that Turco was El Troiano which Randy had been talking about. Now he knows. I think all this secrecy was to avoid anyone else (like Aurelio) finding out what they're doing. We should find out tonight the details (since we don't talk about avances :)
Deb, good point about cutting out your enforcer. As for the guard, whose name I think was Chitarra, Aurelio just praised him for his work and said he'd be paid well. But I think he's dead now.
Yes, we didn't see Tijeras or Bert with the other group.
Thanks, Hombre, for an excellent recap. Once again there was a lot happening in every scene and a lot of dialogue.
The Prez certainly backtracked on the Ramiro issue. Didn't he say that Ramiro is Colmenares' cousin? I thought Ramiro was the current Prez's cousin.
Variopinta - I'm also worried about Turco and hoping he isn't going to be caught by AC. But Chacorta doesn't keep too many secrets from AC.
Chacorta knows AC slept with Matilde sometime in the past. Chacorta and Mati talked about it in bed a while back.
Beth
Excellent work Hombre. Yes, it was a big mistake for Monica to go out without Tijeras. But he wouldn't have let her go in the first place. Wonder what he'll do once he realizes she's gone.
One last thing in the final scene of the tug of war between AC and Cabo over Monica-- AC accuses Monica of working with the cops and bringing them to his safe house (he's only half right). We ended on the very scared faces of Monica and Cabo at that accusation. I sure as hell know whose car I would get into after that, if I were Monica!
I gained some respect for Cabo for doing all he could to save Tijeras, and to protect Monica (now that she’s his woman). He was more loyal than some of us thought.
Yeah, they are toying with us as to whether or not Chacorta saw the kiss. But he certainly saw enough. Alba also mentioned to Ximena that she can tell Turco is in love with her, and that he better never reveal that to her, or there will be trouble. *gulp*
Mati took a pregnancy test, and it's confirmed she preggers. But who's the daddy?
I'm confused about Gina's vendetta against Mireya... I thought she would want them to get married to keep Pedro away from Iggy (maybe it's that Mireya made Pedro to go back to work with Ignacia?). Nevertheless, there is a weird exchange in which Gina is interrogating Lupita and Mireya is defending her, which ends up with both cats arching their backs and hissing at each other. This isn't just about Lupita, folks.
More highlights from the episode:
Pedro mentions that Neto sure talks about Mireya a lot, and Neto gets nervous and stuttery, but then something shiny distracts Pedro and he's off on another topic.
Gina and Braulio meet, and we get just a little more info... she wants to get the money out of Europe asap (hence the shopping sprees), and he mentions an "accident" that wasn't really and accident that the police will never find out about. So someone's dead (maybe the real Gina?) and they're trying to get her money, it sounds like. Although, Gina seems so passionate about her family (especially after Estela threatens them)... maybe this is a case of a psychotic obsession... in any case, it's confusing to see Gina switch so completely between these two personalities.
Tomas gets a mysterious call from the Ministry of "Viviendas" (homes? dwellings? apartments?), to which he responds, "QUE???" and that's all we know for now.
Oh, and Karina calls JM her "novio" in front of Tomas which makes JM blush and look at the floor. Sigh. Harpy.
My favorite Abue Alfa line (walking into the living room to see Estela sitting there in thought): "What are you doing sitting in the middle of the living room like a gargoyle?"
Whenever she's in a scene, even just in the background, she's so much fun to watch :)
By the way, when Estela accuses Ruben of "picoteando de flor en flor" I'm assuming that has something to do with bees and pollination, meaning that he's spreading his seed around town. If I'm off base, let me know. Another favorite moment was when Estela used this phrase w/Ruben and he teased her about "is that what they said in the old days" and AA bursts out in a giggle, stopping abruptly when Estela turns to glare at her. These Santamaria family scenes are becoming my favorites!
Gina doesn't make sense, if she is a fake why did we see when she "fell" down the stairs, how would a fake be able to review that in her mind? Is this going to turn out that she is the real Gina who had an accident, forgot who she was and the mystery man then told her she was Gina, only to reveal she is the real Gina?
Abue is great I love her and the gargoyle line was also great. I was distracted by her mega serving of red jello though.
Was Gina aware that Mireya wanted Pedro to go back to work?
Oh and Gina said something about getting biopsy results so I was wrong yesterday about that montage. Sorry :(
I wonder what the phone call from the minesterio means. I hope we find out tonight.
wow, another great recap Adriana Noel!
TC is pretty good at making herself the center of attention,
I'm trying to picture the restaurant scene with Griselda in the background,
accidentally knocking people over,
what mother would name her son Rafa? says Griselda to Amalia,
asking for his real name,
Mirna cleans up well, this might work,
for a while.
Deb, thanks for the ring info! So interesting.
I also had to say something about the sweetness of Pedro & Ignacia... maybe it's even more noticeable now that Iggy is miserable in her marriage, but she totally lights up and relaxes when she's around Pedro, and of course he's always got that puppy-dog face (I almost expect him to come rub his head against her arm to get her to pet him). I really like their chemistry and am looking forward to them, sometime in the future, getting to be happy together for a little bit, before the next anvil comes crashing down.
As far as Mireya is concerned, I think the writers are setting her up to be a protagonist later, even though she's got this unhealthy obsession with Pedro (which i'm sure will get worse before it gets better). Her scenes with Lupita are moving, and her love for her father, trying to set him up with Marge (as misguided as it may be) have shown some redeemable qualities. I like this actress, Sofia Lama (although her berrinches can be pretty over the top).
Many thanks, Hombre, for today's terrific recap. I thought that the meeting with Topo and Turco took place during the episode, not just in the avances. Topo, with his usual smirky smile, says something like "well, well, so you're the Trojan." He's well aware of who Turco is and the vital role he plays for Aurelio, and for that reason he tells Turco that he doesn't trust him. He trusts Randy, but not Turco. Turco explains that he and Aurelio were together at the start, but things have changed, and they're going their separate ways. But Topo still doesn't trust him. So Turco offers to call Randy and arrange for someone other than Topo to distribute the drugs. As he's dialing, Topo decides to be part of the operation after all. I don't recall what was in the avances, but I'm almost certain that what I've said all occurred in the episode.
Wow, Mónica was really a mess last ngiht. She looked awful (then again, if only I could look so awful!) and she was really out of control. It's not clear who is falling apart faster, Aurelio or Mónica.
I wonder whether Aurelio will win the tug of war over Mónica by shooting Cabo.
The writers are really playing games with us when it comes to the scene with Turco and Ximena. At first, I thought for sure that Chacorta saw them. But then, when he said nothing, I thought momentarily that perhaps he didn't see them. And THAT makes me convinced that he DID. :-)
I don't think Chacorta saw the kiss necessarily, but he certainly feels the tension. But his face always look ominous, so hard to tell.
Can we vote Cabo and Tijeras for best couple in the awards show? His loyalty died when he shot Oscar, and doubt he'd stand up for Monica if he wasn't sleeping with her. But for Tijeras, he'd move mountains. (Insert love song here). Chacorta and Matilde are pretty well matched too, but they're also insane so I give the award to these guys.
Did Aurelio accuse Monica of working with the cops or just accidentally leading them to the new hideout?
Kelly
The Gina thing is very confusing with the flashbacks... my only thought on this was that maybe it's one of those plots where a person gets obsessed with another, ingratiates themselves into their lives (maybe faux-Gina was real Gina's servant and confidante, with all that talk about scrubbing bathrooms), learns everything they can about them and their family to steal their identity, and then they kind of cross over into psychosis where they actually believe themselves to be that person. I've seen this in a few different movies. Pretty convoluted, and still a lot of holes, but just thought I'd put it out there :) I may just have to stop analyzing everything and go along for the ride with this plotline...
Correction-- It was a mistake for Monica to go out without Triste, not Tijeras. But you know what I meant.
Hombre and Beth, I don't agree that the President "totally waffles" or "backtracks" when he hears Marco's account of Ramiro's probably complicity. Rather, I think the President is being sensible. He's giving Marco the green light to continue his efforts to bring down Jimenez Arroyo and Aurelio, but he recognizes that going after Ramiro and his dirty buddies might make people lose confidence in the government and thus vote for someone other than Colmenares in the coming election, someone not at all dedicated to fighting corruption. I see this as sensible pragmatism, not waffling. (And since Aurelio has been asked by Ramiro to kill Colmenares, Marco's stopping Aurelio might also save Colmenares. Not that any of this is known by the President.)
Variopinta, I share your worry about Turco. When Aurelio killed Don Cleto, for me that left Turco as the most likely one being torched in the theme song. I haven't been able to watch the theme song ever since.
Many thanks, Adriana Noel, for your excellent recap. I especially liked your description of Reinaldo and Gabriel acting "like some silly teenager both trying to gain the attention of the most popular girl in school."
I had a somewhat different feeling about Gris's statement to Celeste that Antonio had always been her favorite. I think she was admitting that she was wrong to favor him over the others, that in fact her giving him preferential treatment contributed to his being the ungrateful [fill in the blank] that he's turned out to be.
Question: I thought that the actress asked for $5000 and Antonio made a counter-offer of $2500, which she accepted. Since he doesn't have any money, he certainly doesn't have even the $2500 she agreed to, and he thus has to borrow it. So have I misunderstood once again, and he's really committed to paying $5000? (Though since he won't sign a contract, he'll undoubtedly welch on the remaining $2500.)
I'm with ya'll about the Gina's storyline, so weird but I'm totally interested to see where it's going. Even though I like pedro/iggy, they seem kind of stalled right now so it's nice to see drama elsewhere.
I'm not sure if I imagined this or what, but thought I heard Gina tell that creepy guy that she heard "Gina" was back. So is she fauxGina?? Did anybody else hear this? I was kind of doing something else at the time so might of misheard....
Anotheramy, think so too about Mireya. I do like her despite her lies & at least Lupita has someone looking out for her that knows she's pregnant. & Thanks for the great recaps!
jlk
Thanks for another wonderful recap, Adriana!
As for the money, I think Mirna asked for $5000, Antonio said $2500, Mirna said no way. We didn't see what happened next. But he then gave her $1500, saying that was half, and she put it in her bra. So they must have agreed on $3000.
I previously thought the maitre d a the restaurant was Samuel, but apparently his name is Simón. BTW, the Spanish word for maitre d is "maitre" (with a circumflex over the i which I can't do).
Minor characters. The bar maid is Clara and her son with the blond hair is Leonardo (based on Wikipedia).
It's a good thing the actor playing Reinaldo is tall, as both actresses playing Gris and Teresa Cristina are about 5'9" or so.
Thanks, Hombre, great recap!
Come on! Every police procedural I've ever seen in which they storm the bad guys' hangout features at least some of the guys going around the back before they breach the front.
The sneaky looking guy who has been threatening Danny in his cell was told by Aurelio that he'd cover him with piles of money if he kept him informed of Marco's team's activities, especially Leo, whom he plans to kill sooner rather than later. We certainly hope he fails!
Yep, Aurelio added 2+2 and got 5, assuming Mónica had betrayed him. Kudos to the actress for her half-drunk performance upon arriving at AC's hideout.
Juanita, I agree with you. The president first told Marco that he didn't want to give the impression he wasn't backing Marco's efforts, but he had to consider how revealing Ramiro's villainy might affect the country politically, especially Colmenares chances to win the next sexenio. I loved learning this new word for the six-year term of Mexican presidents. They are limited by the Mexican constitution to only one term.
Thank you Vivi, for the additions I forgot, and thanks, Juanita, I believe you're right that the Turco-Topo conversation was in the episode. I also believe that Aurelio accused Mónica of actually leading the police there, but she and Topo realize that even if it were accidental, she's still guilty of stupidity, and should have been more careful (and as we all agree, should have listened to Triste).
I just want SOMETHING to go wrong for Aurelio. He went to jail, got out. Chacorta got shot, but he's fine. Aurelio gets to have sex with Irina, Mónica, and many others, and no consequences. Have you noticed he calls both Irina and Mónica morra or morrita? I believe this means dark one, but shouldn't he call Mónica guera? Anyway, this way he can't confuse the names!
But he always wriggles out of every jam, and I'm hoping for a change. Please!
There was a presidential candidate assassinated in Colombia in 1989 by the narcos. I think this takes place around 1994 or 95 though.
http://www.nytimes.com/1989/08/19/world/colombian-presidential-candidate-is-slain-at-rally.html
Hombre, morra o morrita in Mexican slang means what we'd say in English as "chick". It's not awfully disrespectful; but, especially in the narco world, kind of means a woman who's there to "serve their needs".
When they affectionally refer to a dark haired, dark eyed, and sometimes even dark skinned woman, they call her morenita.
Thanks for the quick clarifications, Novelera and NovelaMaven.
Variopinta, I think the 1989 slaying was by Pablo Escobar, and was portrayed in that show.
I'm kind of reluctant to even write this as it might seen as if I'm trying to appear smarter than I really am!
But I never liked Gina. I kind of kept it to myself because so many others here were really liking her feisty personality. While I enjoyed her slapping Tomás down; like Pedro, I thought her overbearing behavior to everyone in her "sister's" family was outrageous. And I put sister in quotes because it now appears to me that she's an imposter. I have theories about why she might be doing this, but don't want to color anyone else's perceptions of her motives.
Lupita is an idiot. I surely hope they aren't going with Rubén reforms, Lupita has the baby, and they live happily ever after!
Yes, the scenes where Pedro and Ignacia look at each other and they both melt are very enjoyable!
Thanks AnotherAmy
What a curious episode, really interested where they gonna take the Gina line even though I don't like this 'new' Gina.
A new suspicious character, and inextricable threads already.
Ignacia and Pedro have great chemistry and love those puppy dog looks he gaves her and how she lights up every time they are together.
ITA with Mireya is actually a likeable character minus the lies and obsession with Pedro she needs to discover what she feels for Neto it's obvious theres a spark between them.
Thanks, AdrianaNoel, terrific recap!
My God, Teresa Cristina's behavior is just beyond belief! That awful rant in front of a restaurant full of customers that poor Reinaldo has so carefully cultivated was just unbelievable.
Antonio is not fooling his mother one bit any more. He told her that Rafael had asked his permission before becoming Amalia's novio. This was meant to chill her out about finding Rafael all over her daughter when she got home. Then, when asked about the motorcycle, he says his amigo lent it to him. Gris fires right at him "So he lent you the motorcycle, and you agreed he could date your sister!"
At that Antonio decided not to have breakfast with the family and sneered that he was going out for a cappuccino and a croissant. What an ass!
Excellent job again Adriana!
As fas as I understand the fake mom negotiation, Mirna asked for $5000 and antonio told her he only has$2500, then Mirna said, in that case go with your real mother, - of course this cannot happen - so after that Antonio went to Rafa that he needs the missing money and Rafa have to lend it to him no matter what.
Then he gave the $2500 in advance to Mirna to go along with the plan and withouth contract of coursec because he doesn't want his name show up anywhere.
The scene where the guys were fighting for Gris attention was hilarious! Loved how she just shaked her head for the absurdity of the situation!
I still don't get why TC was paying for Vanessa's tuition but it seems the money tap been stopped.
Kudos for the actress the restaurant scene was great! A temper tantrum for a drop of spilled wine, bravo! She's so worried for the reputation of the place why she's not considering the fact what conclusions are drawn from her behavior she might scare off potential customers.
After watching properly still think that Gris looks better, and she was wearing the dress Antoino gave her yesterday.
Aso, antonio is a prick and need a big slap like yesterday.
Poor Vanessa. TC made a even bigger scene with her screaming. Im curious as to when Miguel Varoni, Daniela Navarro and Jose Guillermo show up.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AXjbWvaWRY This is a link to the original novela Fina estampa. Youll get an idea of what happens in the story.
Juanita - re: the president's decision on Ramiro. When I first watched the scene with Marco, Benitez and the president, I thought his statement made sense (about the political ramifications of accusing/arresting Ramiro, i.e., as you said, voters might lose faith in the party and elect someone who is not as committed to eradicating narcotics crimes). The more I thought about it, though, I believe it's a cop out. People (voters) would be much more supportive of a president who roots out crime in his own family and doesn't support the status quo. Also, I think the president cannot be so naive as to not understand that if Colmenares is so tough on crime, AC (and Ramiro) will go after Colmenares.
Beth
Ignacia demands that Estela march over to the barrio and apologize to Pedro’s family for harassing them. Estela refuses, and Iggy threatens to bring them to the house.
There’s gonna be a party at Oleg’s to celebrate Pedro returning to work. When is there NOT a party in the barrio?
The Ministerio de Viviendas has informed Tomas that his construction company has been chosen for a big project which will make them very rich. Tomas brings out the champagne and is drunk as a skunk before you can say “Ignacia wants a divorce.” JM is incensed… he made a promise to Iggy. JM takes him home.
Lupita is researching herbs that will interrupt her pregnancy.
After further attempts to make mama willing to apologize prove futile, and Ignacia heads out to bring Gina and Margarita to the casa, but is interrupted when she sees Tomas in full borracho splendor.
Not sure exactly what’s going on next, but Gina and Neto are conspiring (and Neto is literally hopping with excitement, little chihuahua that he is) Gina is going to get him some “chamaconas” (hot girls?) from the internet? And Neto is going to get her some things that she needs… get a piece of paper and write this down, I’ll dictate to you on the way, come on, hurry up, keep up with my rhythm! Neto grabs a piece of paper out of a drawer to write on… the drawer where Lupita stashed her pregnancy test results.
JM gets Tomas up to the bedroom, and Estela is sure there is a good explanation for this. JM explains that Tomas was drinking to celebrate the new project, and Estela is satisfied with that. Ignacia is not.
Lupita is cookin up some herbs in the kitchen, and calls Ruben one more time just to make sure he’s still an a-hole and doesn’t want to support her. Yup. Still an a-hole. Abuela Alfa is listening to Rubens half of the conversation from behind the door (DRINK) and is appalled. Lupita poors the boiling water into a cup and dumps the herbs in… bringing it to her mouth. That’s gonna burn going down. And probably take the skin off the roof of her mouth too. At the last minute, she dumps it all in the sink.
Pedro discovers that the notepaper Neto grabbed is Lupita’s pregnancy test results, and is on the war path. He bursts in on Lupita in the casa and demands an explanation. Gina joins in Pedro’s rapid fire interrogation… how could you do this? Do you have any idea what you’ve done? Blah blah blah. How the demonios is this line of questioning supposed to make anything better?? Of course she knows she’s up sh** creek. She’s making her “I know I’m up sh** creek” squeaks. In the meantime, Mireya has wheeled herself in, and Gina turns on her…”You knew this, and you didn’t tell anyone!” Mireya admits she knew, and she was respecting Lupita’s privacy. Pedro is angry, but Mireya won’t let him blame her… “You and I both know that the only person who hasn’t lied in this relationship is me!” Ouch, you are BOLD, miss I-can-walk-but-want-to-keep-Pedro-a-prisoner-of-my-guilt.
Karina walks into Tomas’s office murmuring seductive nothings, and SURPRISE it’s novio JM. JM the smarty is suspicious… “You thought Tomas was in here, didn’t you?” Hold that thought, JM… just hooooooold onnnnnnnn…
Pedro now knows that Ruben is the father and isn’t taking any responsibility. Someone’s getting beat-up today.
Marge is still at Oleg’s with him and Neto. She’s wondering where everyone went, all at the same time, totally oblivious to the ruckus that’s just occurred. Neto says they wanted to leave Oleg and Marge alone for some private time, and Marge is delighted. Oleg, not so much.
Everyone else is chasing Pedro through the barrio, begging him to be reasonable and not do anything stupid. Pedro gets Neto to go with him, and they send Olegario to follow to keep the universe from imploding.
Margarita demands to know what’s going on, she knows they’re keeping secrets from her just because she’s sick.
Karina is explaining to JM that of course, she knew Tomas wasn’t there, and she totally told him she was coming to visit him at the office tonight… he just doesn’t remember. JM doesn’t look convinced despite her cuddles. He walks away from her (YAAAAYYYY!!) and back to his desk… he has to find out how things are going w/Iggy and Tomas. “What do you mean?” she wants to know. “Didn’t you say you knew why Tomas wasn’t going to be here?” he asks suspiciously, and doesn’t wait for her to make up an excuse, but explains that Tomas got drunk and he had to take him home. “I can’t imagine what must be going on over there now, especially since he promised Ignacia he would never drink again.” As JM begins to shuffle papers at his desk, Karina grabs her purse and bolts.
Mireya and Lupita have a conversation about the fact that Ruben is the father of her baby and the brother of Pedro’s boss. Margarita walks in midway… “Embarazo??”, and in true Marge fashion, draws the faulty conclusion that Mireya is the one who is pregnant. Gush, gush, “milagro,” gush, “gracias virgencita”, gush. Mireya’s face: oh, CRAP.
Estela is being “mas que suegra” with Tomas in the bedroom, cuddling up to him as he lies moaning drunkenly. Does anyone else hear Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” in the background? No, wait. I think that’s just my mental soundtrack.
Abue Alfa is trying to get Ruben to fess up about the pregnancy, but he just gets irritated with her questions. As he storms outside, Pedro pulls up, jumps out, and smashes him in the face. (YES!)
Ignacia visits Casa Perez, to apologize to Gina. Marge comes rushing in from the kitchen… Pedro and Mireya are having a baby!! Ignacia Impactadacia. And once again, the single mother with cancer in unrequited love is the only one who doesn’t know the truth. When are the writers going to give this poor woman a break??
AA walks in on Estela canoodling with unconscious Tomas, and squeals. “Are you in love with your daughter’s husband??”
Ignacia is devastated about Mireya’s supposed pregnancy.
Olegario is having to hold back Pedro AND Neto. Ruben calls Oleg a chismoso. Pedro is vowing to make Ruben accept responsibility (ohmigod, they’re not going to make him marry Lupita, are they???? That would bring the number of loveless noviazgos/marriages in this tn to FOUR. These people NEVER LEARN.).
Estela begs AA not to tell Ignacia, and AA doesn’t want to ruin Iggy’s life making her hate her mother forever (whyever not?). Enter Tomas, “Are you talking about me?” Estela explains they’re talking about how Estela once again had to take care of him, and when he asks about Ignacia they tell him she’s gone, and, yes, she was pi$$ed. Enter Karina.
Back at the barrio, Oleg tries to convince Pedro to go back and talk to Lupita. Pedro is suspicious… why did Ruben call you a chismoso? Do you know something I don’t?
Karina and Tomas wind up in the bedroom (out of ALL the other rooms in that house) and he wants her to help him set up a romantic “perdoname” dinner for Ignacia. Estela walks in on their private conversation, raises her delicately painted eyebrows at Tomas’s dismissal, and walks out. Karina was hoping for a little more than restaurant research homework.
Olegario admits that he walked in on Lupita and Ruben together at the obra, and Pedro yells at him, frustrated that everyone is keeping secrets from him. Pedro has done a lot of yelling in this episode. (5 words for you Pedro: Pot. Kettle. Black. Mamacita’s cancer.).
Mireya’s all “Now what am I going to do? Continue with this fake pregnancy?” and Gina’s all “Yes, we must keep up the juego for Margarita’s sake. And we have to get everyone else to play along.” Massive collective viewer EYE ROLL. Here. We. Go. A-freaking-gain. Mireya doesn’t think Pedro would ever be able to lie to his mother. HellOOOO… where were you in episodes 1-8??
Gina goes into kind of a panic and everyone turns and stares at her as she seems to be in a kind of hysterical trance: “No!!! History is repeating itself!! I can’t believe it!! It’s all happening again!! Lupita, this is going to SUCK for ALL OF US!!”
AA tells Estela that Tomas is an alcoholic, and Estela slaps her. AA is stunned… “If you can hit your own mother, you are capable of THE WORST!”
Neto’s kind of excited about “acting” for Marge… he think’s it’s kind of like performing a play. Oleg is skeptical about it all, saying that the truth always comes out. I’m starting to notice how much Neto “bounces” when he’s having a conversation… like a little ADHD kid ☺ When the crew confronts Pedro about the ruse, he refuses emphatically. But then Mireya explains that this news made his mother so happy, and could motivate her to pursue treatment. Pedro looks conflicted. Of course, we all know how this is going to turn out…
Fin del capitulo.
You are so brilliant, AnotherAmy!!! I loved the "You are BOLD" quip and the 5 words for Pedro.
Neto reminds me of Hammy from Over the Hedge.
Um, Abue? Do you remember that your daughter threw a pregnant woman down the stairs? Yeah, hitting her own mother is nothin'.
I can't wait to actually watch the episode tomorrow. Sounds like it was a deliciously hot and circus like mess. Wheee!

AnotherAmy: I agree with Sara C---absolutely brilliantly funny recap. Too many snarkisms for me to enumerate, but I was laughing all through. (Unlike while I was watching the episode). So Mireya said she couldn't ever get pregnant, because of her accident. Wonder if that part is true.
Also, despite all the hints about who Gina is/isn't, seems like she's not faking her Mama-Grizzly-Bear act when her family is in trouble.
J in Oregon
aha, Tía Iris, who calls Teresa,
played by Alba Roversi
Nora in "Corazón Valiente", Bernardo's ex-wife, Willy's (Fabián Ríos) mother,
Thanks AnotherAmy I was spitting coffee all over my monitor while reading your wonderful recap.
I really must controll myself and not read these recaps at the office.
Can Estella sink any lower? Hitting your own mother, OMG!
What is this crazy juego plot again? Are they gonna pretend Mireya is pregnant and than have a baby switch? COME ON!!
Gina behavior is totally confusing.
Now she's again in Protective Behavior mode. If she's not the real Gina, and no real strings with the family, why is she acting so?
Great recap Amy. Our squares for novela cliche bingo are filling in rather nicely. We can add Reuben telling Lustupida that the baby is her problem, someone other than Lustupida finding the test results, and Pedro going to rearrange Reuben's face. If this were a drinking game, we would be as sloshed as Nomás by now.
One thing not cliche: JP's suspicion of Karina. I hope they keep him smart.
I really don't like Iggy and Nomás' house. I don't care how big it is, to me it's ugly.
Sue - Thank you for all the recaps. I am trying to watch this while AV is in ultimas capitulos and somewhat behind. I hope to get caught up soon. This will be my telenovela since I can't bear to invest time in Mejía circos anymore.
Seems to me the actress who is TC is over-acting, or over-doing the character. This is my first Telemundo 'novela to watch (I am a Televisa refugee) and have never seen her in anything else.
That Antonio is a piece of work. I want to throw things at my TV screen when he is on it. Gris has given him everything + more --- good schools, a very nice house (she must be doing very well) and all her love. He is a jerk.
quick recap of what I remember happened
- the latest development in Antonio's pretend world: he continues with his fake mom plan, lets Patty and TC know that "Giselle" is coming by plane the next day; TC decides to plan a great dinner for after "Giselle's" arrival, but also she wants to go pick her up from the airport, so let's see how Antonio manages to get out of this (I'm sure he will manage)
- the baby making business: Juan Pablo talks with Reinaldo about being steril and Esther thinking about in vitro; he doesn't want to hear of it, he thinks having a baby at their age would be ridiculous, but when he gets back home he tells his wife that he's willing to give it a try because he loves her so much and this is obviously something that she really wants
- the highlight of the episode: Manuel gets the biggest, most deserving beating ever when he follows Sol to the club where she sneaked out to dance; he tries to force her out, but the bodyguards grab him and beat him into unconsciousness - let's see how he likes that... Sadly, I'm afraid this will have repercussions for Celeste and Sol, though
- the shock of the night: TC is a murderer! after getting a call from an aunt and not aswering, she has a big crisis (bigger than her usual ones, that is) and remembers how she choked to death a woman in a wheelchair while her aunt witnessed the whole thing; so TC has gone from narcissistic and entitled to a completly new kind of crazy (and DANGEROUS)
- Gris& family: she has a talk with Celeste, who advices her to search for a man, find a companion - and why not Gabriel, who is always there for her;
- she also decides to prepare a dinner at home where to invites Rafael; this way the family can know him better; she also invites Gabriel, which I believe he takes like a love declaration or something
- Rafael professes his love for Amalia, but I just can't with the insta love Tns appreciate so mcuh
- Reinaldo&Gris: he has a power outage at his restaurant and when his usual electrician can't be reached, he calls Gris; but K had turned off all their phones to help her mother rest, so Reinaldo comes to her house to search for her (he needs the power because otherwise all the food he has in the fridge will go to waste); Antonio is home studying and almost gets caught, but manages to hide before he's seen by Reinaldo; dressed in her pijama and her overalls, Gris accompanies Reinaldo to the restaurant, where she fixes the electricity issue (among many giggling coming from Reinaldo and Gris having to take off her overalls and remain in her manly pijama because it is very hot inside)
-in the meantime TC makes a crisis at home because Reinaldo is not back yet; she calls him several times but when he doesn't answer, she decides to go search for him (by driving herself because both Manuel and Ro are at their own homes - oh, the horror!)
-she finds Reinaldo and the pijama wearing Gris just as Reinaldo says that sometimes he prefers to stay at the restaurant rather then go home at night. Auch!
Doris, welcome to Telemundo tns, as time gose by you'll see they're very different from the Televisa ones; I watch both channels, but only because I like a certain actor/ actress or story.
Maritza Rodriguez (Teresa Cristina in Marido) is a very good villainess, I think she is playing this character so over the top because this is the spin they're giving TC; I've seen her in other tns and she's never been like this, it's all in the part she has to play - and I think she's doing it rather well.
I can't with Mejia anymore, either, Corazon Indomable is so ridiculous, I have no more words for it.
Antonio is despicable, but i can't help but look forward to the scenes his fake mom will have with TC, I think we can have a good laugh over them.
Sue455--There are parts of the house I like, but for the most part it is very cold and sterile. I'm having issues with all the books shoved into the cubbies spine side in so no titles show. I guess that was "cleaner" than all the clutter of different spines, but how do you know what book is what when it's just paper showing.
Yeah, completely unimportant, but those are the things I notice.
Again, I am perplexed by Gina's behavior.
I think I'm about to make an asp of myself, but Ms. Sanchez Navarro's interpretation of Margarita is annoying the stew out of me. She's acting like a complete simpleton. And a simpering one at that. When she and Ollie went to the movies she acted like she'd never seen one before.
I wonder how she managed to raise two kids in east LA. Who *is* Lupita's dad, BTW?
Sara, ITA about Margarita's character. She's acting like such a 12-year old. Probably doesn't help that everyone else treats her like one. It's annoying, but she's sure getting the short end of the stick a whole freaking lot.
I don't mind the house so much, just the kitchen with the "blood splatter" marble. Creepy.
Sue, I agree about JM's suspicion of Karina being non-cliche (and so refreshing!)... I hope they keep him smart, too!! He's just adorable, and she's so skeezy. Maybe receptionist Olguita will get a shot.
I've noticed that Yrahid Leylanni (sp?), who played Yesenia in RP and the stripper in CV, is in the credits (although with a slightly different first name spelling). I checked IMDB and it looks like she's slated to show up in this one sometime. I like her, she's spunky. Maybe JM material? God help me, I'm always getting stuck on the subplots and background characters.
I was wrong. Parra (whom I called Chiparra), the guard who was feeding messages to Danny, is not dead. And he’s causing lots of problems.
But whatever happened at the police raid at the safehouse? Apparently, 10 members of Aurelio’s guards have been killed. But they were all “extras”, nobody we ever heard of. Drat! The writers continue teasing us with promises of good events, only to dash our hopes. This happened several more times in the episode. Anyway, Mónica is between Aurelio and Cabo, she tells Aurelio I would never betray you, of course I didn’t call the cops, and I want to go with YOU, which she does. Cabo goes off with some other driver. We see Tijeras has caught a cab, and he calls Cabo. They meet, and kill the driver. So they’re free for now. But it’s not as if they can ignore Aurelio. Some strategy is called for.
Bert was okay too, and when he later meets his Dad, the guard tells Aurelio the kid performed like a champ, shooting bad guys, protecting himself. Even though Tijeras got away, Aurelio is proud of his son. Bert asks if maybe they should kill both Cabo and Tijeras, but Aurelio says not yet, he needs Cabo’s supply, but after they get new contacts, THEN they’ll kill him. But first, they’re going to whack someone really high up. Jiménez-Arroyo? Asks Bert. Nah, we’ve got him taken care of. Son, you, me and Charcorta are going to take out somebody way MORE important! (Colmenares).
The police did recover a huge quantity of drugs, and lots of documents which may implicate Danny. But Marco isn’t happy.
At the meeting with Topo and Turco, Turco confirms that he and Randy are together, a change is coming, and Topo can trust them. Topo trusts Randy, so he’s reassured that at some point, Aurelio will go down.
Alone with Mónica, Aurelio grills her again on what she was doing. She says she loves him, they should run away together, who needs all this tension, the police, all this? She’s even forgiven him for killing her brothers. (Ooops, big mistake). Aurelio is taken aback, don’t go on with that again, you know I had nothing to do with it. Mónica doesn’t believe him, but she doesn’t care. You know my feelings for you, Aurelio, and don’t hide yours, you really love me, too, right? Aurelio steels himself, maybe, Mónica, but after what you just said, I can never TRUST you again. So, sorry, but no. She’s shocked, didn’t plan this, and tearfully leaves. Arriving at her house, she finds Triste and gets ready for another (ill conceived, probably) plan.
Chacorta finds Mati all depressed. He later realizes she may be pregnant, and hands her a pregnancy test, do the test, dear. Looks as if she’ll have to.
The President meets with Ramiro, says they have proof that he’s aligned with the druglords, this will not stand! Ramiro first denies, my wife was just paranoid, but the President is having none of this. The President says we’re keeping things quiet, because of the political situation. At this point Ramiro sort of takes the gloves off, threatens his own cousin, yes, you’d better make sure NONE of this comes out, or we’ll both go down. He hints the President has some minor indiscretions. The President says don’t toy with me, what YOU’ve done is ruining Mexico! And the next candidate won’t be as tolerant as I am! We know Ramiro has plans for this next candidate.
Eugenia’s body is laid to rest, as Marco and Alfonso look on stoically. Alfonso says I’d rather we fought over her, than this. Marco agrees, but he swears, he’ll avenge her death.
Marco tells Leo he’s going to the ranch, it’s a new operation. You stay here with Danny, who’s going to testify tomorrow. Parra hears this, calls Aurelio. Aurelio thanks him, says if you have the chance, take out la perra (Leo) (!). Marco, Ponte and the others don bullet proof vests and head for the ranch. Leo goes to Danny’s cell with a folder in hand. We raided Casillas’ safe house, and look what we got (showing a folder). Well, says Danny, if you got Casillas, maybe I can cooperate. No, says Leo, the bastard escaped, but these documents will prove your guilt. And we can tie it to Doris, too. So if you want to any to help your situation, you’d better open your mouth at that hearing! Later, we see Danny contemplating the tie Parra gave him. And when Leo goes back to check on Danny that night, he’s hanged himself! Somehow, as much as I wanted Danny to go down, this gives me no satisfaction. It helps Aurelio. Again!
Aurelio has called Chacorta, tells him the cops are coming to the ranch, Chacorta hides. Marco shows up, meets Ximena, and she says there’s nothing here. Marco hands her a paper, no Ma’am, this is an order to exhume the body of your father, to see if foul play was involved, we have reason to believe there was. Matilde tells Marco, get out of here, cop, but Ximena says she will sign, she wants to get rid of any doubts. She signs.
Mónica arrives at a hotel in Sinaloa. She tells Triste to unpack the bags. She calls Ximena on the phone, we have to meet tomorrow at the Sierra Hotel. I have something very important you should know about, and we have to meet in person. But Mati overhears this, and calls Aurelio! Meanwhile, a crate arrives at the ranch (Marco isn’t there anymore), and it’s the body of Miss Sinaloa on ice! Ximena and the others are shocked, but don’t know what it means.
Ximena has told Turco she needs to go into town, and he agrees to help her. The next morning, the guards won’t let her leave. Turco is about to overrule them, when Chacorta shows up, no Ximena, you can’t leave, Aurelio’s orders. At the hotel, Mónica is all duded up, ready to meet with Ximena, tell her about Don Cleto. Someone enters the room. No, it’s not Triste (whom Aurelio’s guards have overpowered outside the hotel). No, it’s not Ximena, who may not have gotten off the ranch. Aurelio smiles his evil smile, hi, Mónica, I guess you weren’t expecting ME!!!!!
Adriana Noel, thanks very much for the helpful and enjoyable recap. Yes, TC has a crisis that's "even bigger than her usual ones," in other words, enormous! I can't wait to see more about this Dark Secret from her past.
I think you're right in what you said to Doris about TC's over-the-top performance being what was asked for, but I'd have preferred a different sort of approach. I'm not much of a slapstick fan; indeed, I'd also prefer that Ro's role be very different. I actually find it rather offensive.
I too don't buy Rafa's instant love for Amalia.
Actually, the more I think of it, the more I think that if I stay with this telenovela, it will be for Sonya Smith and Juan Soler.
wow, great recap AnotherAmy!
you have an amazing way of putting all of the crazy pieces together,
Lupita with the boiling water, yikes!
ah but I felt so sorry for her,
I was waiting for people to start coming in off the street and yelling at her,
and it doesn't take long to count all of Rubens friends,
was he calling the guys nacos,
Ignacia was looking quite pale when she heard that Mireya was pregnant,
(even more pale than Ana already looks),
is there even one book in Tomás' new house,
so odd compared to the apartment,
no homey touches at all,
I too find Margarita a bit vacant,
and I'm enjoying Abuela Alfonsina's observations/comments on things,
or just wandering around in the background
I know things aren't going so well for everyone,
but the timing here is incredible,
and I find myself laughing out loud!
Great recap, Hombre! Fernanda Castillo is doing a terrific job of presenting Mónica's many sides. I really believed Mónica's profession of love last night to Aurelio, in spite of his having killed her two brothers. But the fact that he did kill them, and she knows it, makes her emotions much more complicated, and I think Fernanda Castilla has conveyed that extremely well. And when I think about the very different character she played not long ago on Amor Bravío, I'm even more impressed.
Well, I thought El Presidente was off his rocker when he said he would talk to Ramiro after hearing Marco's accusations, and last night's episode did nothing to change my mind. What is that man smoking? What could he possibly gain by letting Ramiro know of his suspicions?
So now Aurelio has told his mole in Marco's office that he (the mole) should kill the perra (Leo) if he gets the chance. Since everyone Marco has been close to has been killed by Aurelio and his hoods, I'm VERY uneasy. OTOH, Leo has shown herself to be smart, savvy, and more than able to defend herself. I hope her skills serve her well this time, too.
Well, since Ximena has given permission for Marco & Co. to exhume the body of Don Cleto, it looks as if she'll learn the truth about her father's death even if the meeting with Mónica never occurs (and it doesn't look as if it will).
Thanks, Adriana, excellent recap!
I believe the aunt who saw TC kill someone is Iris. And I think she's the mother of Paloma, TC's cousin, who has that stand down on the beach.
Rafa is definitely getting in more trouble. I think Antonio asked him to "borrow" some luxury car. And two other employees of the moto shop discussed with each other that Rafa took a moto w/o permission to lend to his friend.
I don't think we know for sure whether Manuel is even alive after the beating by those bouncers. Sure, I wanted payback for him, but you'd think they'd just throw him out of the club, not "club" him the way they did. I noticed that in their house, they have a big clock or wall sculpture that looks like sunrays, and their daughter's name is sol.
I was surprised that Juan Pablo changed his mind so fast from not wanting to raise babies at this stage of his life, to agreeing to go along with the in vitro out of his love for Ester. Although maybe he really wasn't opposed to babies, just was saying that to cover up his feelings about his infertility.
We should count the number of times Antonio lies to either his Mom or his girlfriend each episode. It's a pretty big number.
thanks so much Adriana Noel for the recap,
and especially for sharing your comments,
I'm not quite sure what Rafa's job is,
does he manage that moto shop,
but his favors to Antonio are being noticed,
odd that Griselda invited him to dinner, (without telling Amalia first)
I guess she takes life straight on,
odd that she is also inviting Gabriel,
is she taking Celeste's advice in finding a man,
while ignoring her real crush, to a married man,
interesting twist on Teresa,
I'm guessing she was expediting her inheritance,
after all what is she without money,
but why has Tía Iris kept quiet,
Hombre, thank you for adding the tidbits that I didn't mention.
You make a good point about Aunt Iris being Paloma's mom, so far Paloma has been pretty isolated, she has to get involved in the story one way or another.
Yeah, Antonio did ask Rafa for a fancy car and Rafa's actions are getting noticed - I bet that when he eventually gets into troubles, dragging Amalia in his mess, too, Antonio won't give him the time of day.
I found Manuel's beating exaggerated, too, but I don't think he's dead, it would be to easy to get rid of him so fast and besides the actor is a well known face, I see him staying on for longer than a few episodes. I don't think he is dead, I believe this was just one of the usual tn tropes, to make us believe something that isn't quite like it appears to be.
JP's change of attitude surprised me, too, especially after telling Reinaldo point blank that he doesn't want babies; I think they edited out a follow up of that scene where something Reinaldo told him might have made him change his mind.
Maybe we should need a drinking game for whenever Antonio says a lie?
Deb, I expected Gris to deal with Rafa head on, the fact that she didn't consult Amalia first only tells me that she knows her daughter is just to innocent for now and she has to take care of her - a man would not ask for his daughter's opinion before asking the new novio to come for dinner, so that is what Gris pretty much did, IMO.
If Gris has to take Celeste's advice, please let it not be Gabriel, he does nothing for me, I don't find him attractive at all, I don't care how much of a hombre bueno he is. And Reinaldo is not a good option right now either, since he is married.
I hadn't thought about the reasons Tia Iris kept TC's secret, maybe she was payed off and now comes asking for more money?
Juanita, I've seen Sonya Smith in a lot of tns over the years, but she was never a favorite of mine. Nor was Juan Soler.
But I really like Griselda, she is such a different and enjoyable character. And I find Reinaldo kind of endearing, too. He doesn't give me the galan vibe, more the fatherly one if I think about it, but fathers need their happiness, too, right?
another great recap Hombre!
as usual, I depend on your summaries to sort things out,
I see Cabo and Tijeras find there way to Mónica's
to regroup,
is Turco really going out on his own,
I'm not getting that Ximena is totally buying in to what he is offering,
I like the Prez, I'd vote for him,
was Ramiro suggesting that with enough money they could...
and this really set off the Prez,
so where does Ramiro go now, this guy could really muck things up,
will Aurelio now have an even bigger target,
once again Chacorta walks out the back door to the ranch,
while Marco walks in the front,
I don't think Miss Sinaloa was on ice,
those were styrofoam peanuts, and everyone covered their noses,
Aurelio/Mónica, wow, talk about an explosive love,
I just can't look away when they are together.
(Fernanda Castillo is really putting it out there)
Great one Hombre
The Trojan name is just so puzzling to me, it seems so obvious, surely some of them have heard it.
Looks like Monica's AC obsession is going to be the death of her.
And pobrecita Miss Sinaloa has thawed out.
Marido
Hmmmm, Teresa must have been watching Monica in Cielos on dispensing people with plastic bags.
I believe the mole is in the jail, not the police office. So if he is going to kill Leo, it will be in the jail.
Let all this be a lesson, Don't be a doctor for a narco, or a tunnel digger, or a cab driver, & watch where you deliver papers.
Adriana Noel - thanks again for the wonderful recap. My first time seeing Sonya Smith was in Donde Esta Elisa; really really like her.
I'm glad TC is intimidated by one person at least - Tía Iris; and she hasn't even shown up yet.
I can hardly wait to see how fake mom plays out; should be amusing.
As for Reinaldo, it's nice that he doesn't allow himself to be miserable with a wife like TC; liking his character as well.
I've been trying to find out how many more episodes remain in El Señor de los Cielos. Today I came upon a site called Locate TV, which has a chart showing that Cielos will air through Monday, July 29. The chart shows it NOT airing on the 30th or 31st, so perhaps that's the answer: 8 more episodes, counting the one coming tonight. Maybe.
Adriana–2 drinks for lying to Pati, 3 drinks for lying to Gris. ¡Salud!
I have to finish last night's episode because I fell asleep. My On Demand service has it the next day.
I'm going to have to pay closer attention to the kitchen. I haven't noticed the "blood spatter." lol
I feel really bad for that receptionist. She takes a lot of abuse. And AMEN to all who commented on JM's intelligence. I also hope he stays that way...and that he can get rid of Karina. "Skeezy" is the perfect description.
And that the family treats Margarita like a 12 year old really doesn't help me see her as a capable adult either. I enjoy watching her scenes and I think the Ollie/Maggie pair up is supposed to be a lighter counterpoint to the darker melodrama. I just wish they had created a slightly more believable character.
Shallowgal, I can't wait to see "Giselle" too. I think it will be hilarious to watch, especially if we consider the kind of person TC is.
Sue, I'm good with your suggestion of drinks.
And maybe we should add a fancy cocktail for whenever Ro calls TC a ridiculous name like Nefertiti or Diosa or something...
With these two together, we would all be waste before the first commercial break. SALUD!
Piña Colada for each "Diosa," "Princesa" (to Pati).
Margarita each time TC calls Ro "esclavo."
Long Island Iced Tea every time TC refers to Griselda as "Bigotuda."
Thanks for the recap anotheramy, had me cracking up! I am super glad that lupita's pregnancy is out in the open (for the most part) and that they know who the father is. Just hope that rueben's family knows soon too.
Agree about margarita's character. Don't like that sometimes's she can can act totally ditzy, especially about ollie. And I can't help it but it kind of makes me not like her.
Gina is just a big question mark.
MARIDO
I was totally surprised to see that murder scene with TC. Maybe she hides her smarts (because she does seem perceptive) and dangerous viciousness behind all that frivolity
I did like the scene where the siblings were aguring/talking late at night, to me it gave insight to their family dyanamics.
Also I think ester & JP would make totally cool parents, they're just cool people. And it's nice too see a mature sane couple, we'll just see how long the tn gods will allow that to go on.
& of course thanks for the great recap adriana!
jlk
Thanks so much for the recap Adriana! Since Uni is doing Premios Jeventud tonight, I can catch up on this week's Marido episodes. I'm shocked that TC has turned out to be a murderer. Looks like this will be a very dark light tn. Yikes! I guess the wife-beater husband should have clued me in on that.
Adriana thank you for the quick-cap. Very nicely done!
I'm thinking TC is more than a little nuts. Her manipulations, paranoia and tantrums are way beyond simply eccentric boundaries, and then there is the murder (for which she probably never did time). I'm looking forward to meeting Tia Iris.
Is it me, or is "Giselle's" taping Antonio a bit suspect? Like maybe she'll use it to blackmail him later on?
I'm feeling that Gabriel is going to be so let down by Gris. I do like him and don't want to see him heartbroken.
A drinking game for whenever Antonio tells a lie and Ro calls TC a ridiculous name? Great idea! but I'll have to go to the liquor store ASAP. That's way more liquor than I have on hand.
...and does nobody in Miami go to bed before 2 a.m.?
Beth
Beth I thought the same thing about Mirna taping their conversation. I can see Antonio trying to back out of their deal and there is no written contract. Insurance on Mirna's part.
OK. I just watched Monday's episode when Reinaldo tries to get frisky with TC in the bedroom. I'm surprised that he still desires such a harpy, but he genuinely seems to be in love with his wife. Of course, now with Gris in the picture...
That bedroom scene, with Js/Reinaldo being made to go to the kitchen for aspirin, reminded me of a cute scene between his galan and Silvia Navarro in Cuando Me Enamoro. Of course, that galan actually got some nookie, starting at Min 10:30: http://www.dailymotion.com/user/lunaura/2#video=xha0bd
Wow, for a min. I thought Aurelio wasn't going to kill Monica, but that is so unlike him.
I'm really worried now about Turco & Ximena. Why would AC leave them there together, hope it's not what I suspect.
Odd that Triste wasn't killed.
Dish CC took most of the night off in our area, but most of what happened was pretty obvious. I'm surprised - I thought Monica was going to live - at least till next week.
It was pretty bold of Parra to attempt to garrote Leo in the agency headquarters. He did look a little scared when she turned suddenly.
I loved Mati getting the housekeeper to pee in the cup for her - and she was so pleased with herself for fooling Chacorta.
I'm also surprised that Benitez so openly showed his mistrust to Huerta (or Castro, whoever, one of the 3 little pigs). He could become the next casualty.
Wiki says 11 more episodes with El Señor ending on Aug. 2nd. Hopefully the slaughter of the good guys is going to stop soon.
Beth
Thanks for yesterdays mini-recap Adriana!
Who was that woman TC killed? Her mum maybe or an aunt? Was she killing her for the inheritance or because it was embarassing for her to have a handicapped and probably mentally impaired relative?
I was just wondering yesterday while watching, why is Antonio so upset with their way of living and why is it so despicable that he has to hide it and deny everything and everyone??
Yes, I know he wants a high and mighty lifestyle, plenty of money, connection, rubbing elbows with millionaires so on, so on, but actually that place is not so bad compared with some of the vecindads, rundown neighborhoods, shacks and landfill huts we are shown in other TN's.
They have a decent house with full comfort, water, sewer, electricity, etc. separate rooms for everyone, food and education.
His mom is a hard working - although crude and unpolished (that could be remedied) - and most definitely loving parent who gave him all she can, maybe even more, thats why he is a no good, spoiled, haughty @ss.
Now he denies his own sister, in their place I would have kicked him out bigtime already!
I think poor Gabriel is in for a huge heartbreak when he realize he hasn't a chance of a snowball in hell with Gris.
He's so cute trying to get her to like (love) him and always cut off, might have draw the longbow with that kiss today.
I want him to get a nice woman, maybe the waitress who works at the bar??
S.S and J.S has good chemistry, loved how she got all aflutter when he came to the house at night for the emergency help out. :-)
I only saw her in Acorralada before and J.S in CME, but they great together.
Manuel got what he deserved, but I'm afraid this will backleash on Sol and Celeste as soon as he gets better.
I don't doubt now that Aurelio would kill Ximena. Hopefully Marco can get her in witness protection. She is the mother of his children, but she will hate him now. The only ones safe from slaughter are his children.
I agree with everyone about Fernanda Castillo, don't know how AB could have prepared her for Monica. I have not seen a better performance by anyone.
QEPD Monica
Hola! I've been a lurker for the last couple of weeks on this site, but I've been watching Cielos from the beginning. Just had to chime in with you all regarding Fernanda Castillo. I think she's done an amazing job of acting, portraying her vulnerability, her anger, her fury, her ability to kill when she wants to and inability to do so when her heart won't let her. I was an avid watcher of AB, and this role for her couldn't be more different. Cudos to her, and I hope to see her again soon in another TN.
This was a good one, folks, with some great cheer-worthy moments. Couldn't keep this one short!
Tomas is pulling out all the stops to get Iggy’s forgiveness. Romantic dinner…. AND she can be a partner in his company. Iggy is stony.
Margarita is still gushing about how happy she is that Mireya and Pedro are making her a grandmother. She thanks Pedro over and over again. And over again. She really is starting to get on my nerves with all the sweetness and gushing. Pedro tells her that what’s important is that she go to the doctor to get her biopsy results and find out about treatment. She promises she will, and then thanks him again for this gift he has given her (he would have preferred to get her a nice tea cozy) and she is the happiest woman in the world. Oh. My. Sheesh. Just. Stop. Pedro looks ill.
“You are trying to buy me,” declares Ignacia. Tomas responds that he’s just trying to give her what she’s always dreamed of, and this could also secure her future and Ruben’s education. She’s still skeptical, but the lure of her dream coming true is breaking down her resolve. She’s fallllllllltering……………
Gina arrives early in the morning to the office, saying the secretary called and asked her to come. JM isn’t sure why she was called to the office, but decides it was probably to get her fingerprints for the new apartment building’s security system. Gina freezes. “But I’m the big investor, everyone knows me!” Gina says, panicky. JM assures her it’s a requirement for everyone working on the project (this whole fingerprint thing is weird, but what do I know about fancy apartment buildings?), and suddenly Gina has some urgent business to attend to. She leaves in a tizzy.
Mariano arrives at the Library of Congress, I mean the apartment full of books, and breathes deeply. “Mi casa…” he sighs.
AA and Estela compete for airtime with Ruben, pushing and shoving in front of each other to find out why he was punched. AA has a pretty good idea of what happened and why, but she wants him to spill it (throwing in a “watch out, she may slap us both” aside to Ruben ☺). Estela screams and threatens.
Marge is going through old baby clothes. More gushing. Lupita looks on, picks up a pair of booties, and is starting to soften. Don’t worry, Lupy… I’m pretty sure MTV is hiring for the new season of Teen Moms.
AA spills that she heard Ruben talking on the phone about a pregnancy not being his problem, and deduces that the split lip was from someone she sent to set him straight. Ruben tells them it is Lupita who’s pregnant, and Estela has a conniption with open palms flying.
Tomas tells JM over dinner about making Ignacia socia, and JM is dumbfounded. Tomas tells him not to worry, he only told her that so she would forgive him… he wants three kids and plans to knock her up as soon as possible and then she won’t be able to work, so the socio thing will never happen. JM shakes his head, looking incredulous.
Ruben is being subjected to a hurricane of slaps about the torso, as Estela is lecturing him… “Why couldn’t you embarazar a rich kid instead of a naca like her??” He claims that he’s sure it’s not his baby, he never provoked anything, she was always chasing him. AA interjects that he totally deserved the beating he got, but Estela disagrees, saying that he’s right… it’s always the woman who does the chasing, and these poor people would totally make something up like this just to get what they wanted. ROWF. (That’s the sound of me throwing up a little bit in my mouth. This family is just RIDICULOUS. Someone get poor Abue out of this DEN O’ CRAZY!)
Olegario doesn’t react the way Margarita expected (squealing like a 10 year old girl) to the news of Mireya’s supposed pregnancy. He makes a hasty exit, and Marge looks confused.
Lupita encounters Mariano when she goes looking for Ruben (ok, now it’s like she’s just asking for rejection) at the old booky apartment. Mar tells Lup he’s Ruben’s dad.
Pedro steps into Iggy’s office to ask if she found out anything about the Gina/Estela connection, and Iggy’s uncomfortable, flashing back to news of the pregnancy. She says she forgot to look into it, and he says she looks serious… is she having family problems? Problems with Ruben? Iggy’s confused… what do you mean, Ruben? Guess who bursts into the office… freezing in his tracks when he sees Pedro… Iggy asks, “What happened to your face?”
Pedro dismisses himself with a smirk. Ruben sets about defaming Pedro’s character and calling him a delincuente (HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!) and quits. Ignacia looks a bit shellshocked.
Mariano and Lupita bond at the apartment.
Marge gushes to Mireya and says that if God worked a miracle for Mireya, He will work a miracle for her too, curing her cancer. Mireya is devastated.
Lupita finds Ruben at work and he immediately begins berating and threatening her. Then, the heavens open up, a choir of angel sings, and LUPITA gives it RIGHT BACK TO HIM! It was AWE. SOME. “I just wanted to tell you that you don’t matter to me any more, and I don’t need trash like you to help me with my baby!” Ruben is taken aback. This has got to be one of my all-time favorite moments so far.
Neto thinks Pedro should tell Ignacia about her brother’s baby. Olegario is fed up with lying and needs Pedro to fix this mix-up YA.
Ruben bites back, but Lupita keeps it up. “I’m glad you washed your hands of this baby, because it’s better off without a dad like you! Don’t even think about ever having any contact with him/her! This is the last time in your life you will ever see me!” Even though we seriously doubt this is true and they’ll both be seeing each other way more than we would prefer, this is such a refreshing change from Squeaky Wheel!
Gina makes a desperate call to Braulio… they want want fingerprints!!! What do I do??? Braulio counsels her to chill out, stay calm, keep up the farce, and lay low until he figures out what to do. Then things get freaky and we start to see past the tip of the psychosis iceberg, as Gina gets hysterical. She takes out a photo of what we assume to be the real Gina as a young’un, then cries and begins ripping out her extensions and sobbing to herself in the mirror “I am Gina! I am Gina!” Um, Wow. That’s all I have to say.
Then it’s my SECOND favorite scene of the whole show: Karina comes to the office to see if JM wants to get lunch, since he hasn’t called her either last night or this morning. JM is cold. He figured she didn’t want to talk to him since she left him talking to himself to check on borracho Tomas. “Are you scolding me?” she wants to know. JM takes his leave, saying he’s busy, and now the one being left talking alone will be her. He leaves, and my heart SWELLS with pride. That’s my little bomboncito ☺
Marge wants to celebrate the nieto to be and sends Mireya to get some things. Good grief, these people are ALWAYS celebrating. Mireya lets Neto/Pedro know she’s going to the store to get things to celebrate this lie, and lays on the guilt thick, as Mireya is the queen of guilt trips (although this one, we agree, is well deserved). Pedro is torn. Neto is excited about cake.
Ruben is taking his things and leaving Casa de Locura. Or trying to. Estela catches him and refuses to let him go back to the apartment… there is someone living there already. “But what about all my books?” (ok, Ruben doesn’t say this, but I’m sure he’s thinking it.). He announces that he quit his job and doesn’t want to be there when Tomas finds out. Tomas walks in “you QUIT??”
Pedro finds out from Lupita that she went to see Ruben (which he prohibits her from in the future) and that she met his papa, Mariano. Gina half-faints, and then runs out of the room.
My NEXT favorite scene (this episode ROCKS): JM goes to see Ignacia at the obra and tells her not to trust Tomas. He’s not telling you the truth about making you socia. Karina is eavesdropping (DRINK) and smirks. He tells her of Tomas’s plan to get her pregnant so she won’t be able to work and be socia after all, and Iggy thanks him and assures him she’ll take care of it. JM apologizes for butting in to her marriage, but he thought she should know. He gives her a sweet little peck on the cheek and then leaves (I guess Karina has slithered off somewhere else at some point).
**I’m noticing there isn’t nearly as much eavesdropping in each episode as there used to be, as I’m ending up disappointingly sober every night. Perhaps a new one is in order…
Pedro has followed Gina into the courtyard and is suspicious that she got weird when she heard Mariano’s name. He wants to know what is going on. She denies she knows Mariano, he doesn’t believe her.
Ruben says he quit because he didn’t want to work with Pedro, the guy who stole from you (wait, doesn’t he know that Tomas and Estela both know that Ruben is actually the thief? Didn’t they both make him the middle of a blackmail sandwich earlier?). Tomas is surprised to find out that Pedro is still working there, and Ruben bolts with his maletas.
Gina wants Lupita to give her the address of the place where she met Mariano.
Estela needs Tomas’s help to deal with Ruben’s baby daddy problem, she needs to deal with this in the “most effective way possible, if you know what I mean.” Tomas replies “How much are you thinking?”
Ruben encounters Mariano at the apartamento o’ books, and Mariano tells him he’s his daddy. Ruben’s having none of it.
Neto and Pedro bring a too-drunk-to-walk Oleg back to the barrio, and he is rambling about not being able to keep other people’s secrets. Margarita sends him to his house for coffee.
Ignacia gets home and Tomas is sitting in a weird egg-chair that makes it impossible to take him seriously. He wants to know if she has something to tell him about the obra, she says no, he tells her to get ready for dinner. It’s just going to be him, her, Abue, and Mommy Dearest, because Ruben got someone pregnant and flew the coop. Iggy is dumbfounded.
Lupita asks Pedro for the address of the new house (where he went to beat-up Ruben). Wait, didn’t Gina want the address of the place where she met Mariano (the apartment)? Or is Lupita trying to deliberately misdirect her? Pedro refuses, he doesn’t want her to go looking for Ruben.
Mariano looks longingly at a portrait he drew of the young Gina.
Tomas has the family gathered in the dining room, and is carrying himself with the air of a manipulative evil mastermind. He announces, after they all sit down, that Ignacia and he have begun trying to start a family, hopefully with twins. Ignacia is open-mouthed-impactada. Fin de mi capitulo favorito!!
You know it’s a good episode when there are comments before the recap. Yes, this was a powerful (and disturbing, as usual) episode. Near the end, Aurelio makes a decision. Turco says to him, are you sure? Aurelio replies, what, are you questioning me again? Turco: No, I’m sure you know what you’re doing. Aurelio: Damn straight. I’ve made lots of decisions, and have you noticed, they all worked? I mean, they haven’t caught me, they haven’t killed me. (Let’s see what happened that led up to this, what the decision was, and if we think Aurelio’s perfect record will continue).
We begin with Mónica and Aurelio in the hotel room. In an amazing, tense sequence, they really lay their feelings on the line. Aurelio chides Mónica for trying to meet with Ximena. Mónica doesn’t care, she’s not afraid of anything. In fact, she sent dead Miss Sinaloa to Chacorta as a message. And Triste is coming in at any minute. Don’t think so, says, Aurelio, he’s NEVER coming. Mónica didn’t expect this one. Downstairs, we see Triste and the other guard unconscious in the SUV. Aurelio’s guards are about to shoot them, when their phone rings. (I think it’s about Ximena, see below, I have this a bit out of order). Anyway, Triste recovers consciousness, grabs a machine gun, kills the guards and takes the car.
Aurelio continues, and guess what, I DID kill both your brothers! I already know that, says Mónica, and I’m beyond that. My feelings for you are beyond that. Sorry, Mónica, but I’m going to enjoy killing you. He gets out his golden revolver, points it at her head. Oh big man, well guess what, you were NOT so great in bed. In fact, I have someone else who pushes my buttons better, and wouldn’t you like to know who he is? Aurelio is angrier, holds the gun to Mónica’s temple. Go ahead, says Mónica, pull the trigger. But don’t say I don’t turn you on. She breathlessly rubs her body against him, lips grazing his face longingly. He cocks the trigger. And waits....and waits....and lowers the gun. You DO love me! She gushes. I knew you couldn’t do it.
But unknown to Mónica, Aurelio, after lowering the gun, has extracted a switchblade from his pocket. He presses the button. Then, saying Goodbye, Mónica, he plunges the blade into her side, over and over again, red blood seeping out over her expensive, cream colored dress. He tells her, sorry, but the gun would have made too much noise. Her look changes to disbelief, as she dies, and he lowers her to the floor.
Back at the ranch, there’s a big argument over the cadaver of Miss Sinaloa, and Ximena takes advantage of this to sneak out, taking an SUV, high tailing it into town. Eventually Chacorta and the others figure this out, and call Aurelio. Aurelio has some guards dispose of Mónica’s body, asks about Triste, is told he escaped, but we’re following him. Later, we see him abandon his SUV, and think he’s going to be killed, but no, he escapes again, forces a guy at knifepoint to take him in an airplane to D.F.
Cabo and Tijeras are in Mónica’s house (she lives in D.F.) wondering what to do, when Triste shows up, informs him that he’s absolutely sure that Aurelio has killed Mónica. Uh oh. Later, Cabo tells Tijeras, that’s it, he’s got to be killed. Chacorta? No, you. Wait a minute says Tijeras. You wait, says Cabo, we have to find someone who’s your double, kill HIM, and make Aurelio think you’re dead! That’s BETTER, godfather, says Tijeras. You’re a genius!
Back at the ranch, Matilde has gotten a maid to give her a urine sample, which she uses to do the pregnancy test, then shows Chacorta she’s NOT pregnant. Ahah! She congratulates herself on being so smart. But Mati, says me, you still ARE pregnant!
While all this has been going on, Leo calls Marco, tells him Danny hung himself. Marco isn’t happy, we should have guarded him 24 hours a day. But see if maybe it was murder. As Leo hangs up, Parra comes behind her, prepares to strangle her, but she turns around, he quickly puts away the cord, she yells, why weren’t you watching the prisoner?! If only she knew. Meanwhile, Castro gets mad at Benitez, you’re incompetent, letting Danny hang himself. Benitez doesn’t want to hear this, this is not Castro’s jurisdiction, and we’ll see what happens in the end!
Marco has the body of Don Cleto exhumed, then examined by a new doctor. Sure enough, he was strangled. And they may be able to use the prints on the neck to tie it to Aurelio.
Ximena arrives at the hotel, gets past the guards, gets up to Mónica’s room, but is greeted by Aurelio. She’s furious, Aurelio is just as angry at her, how DARE she violate his orders and leave the ranch? Yeah, well where’s Mónica? She’s gone. We put her on a plane. Ximena doesn’t believe this for a second, starts screaming at Aurelio, so he has a thug put a needle in her neck, and she’s out like a light.
Marco is about to go out to the ranch with the results of the autopsy. ANOTHER employee in the office calls Niño (Aurelio has friends everywhere), tells him Marco’s on his way. Out at the ranch, having been warned by Niño, Aurelio first tells Doña Alba he’s going to fight the cops. But she says is this worth the lives of your children? So Aurelio comes up with another plan. He’s now made his decision, the one Turco didn’t agree with.
Ximena wakes up, there’s Turco, where am I? You’re at the ranch. Well, where’s Aurelio? Sorry, Xime, he’s gone. And the children? Cut to a new big house, Aurelio, Bert, Rutila, Chacorta and Mati are there, with lots of guards to help. Rutila asks where’s Mommy, and Aurelio says Mommy’s back at the ranch, but we won’t see her for a while, she’s got lots of things to do. Hmmm. We see that the only ones at the ranch are Turco and Ximena. That was Aurelio’s decision. Will he regret it? Marco shows up, he’s got an envelope, which he hands to Xime, saying, Ms. Ximena, I’m sorry, but we have proof your husband is a criminal. These papers show he killed your father, Don Cleto! Ximena looks shellshocked, can hardly MOVE.
Lots of drinking opportunities last night, with Antonio lying shamelessly to Patricia. I'm wondering how long it'll be before Antonio's lying comes out. I don't think it'll be the whole show. I've seen several novelas in which a secret like this works for about 30 episodes. Then it comes out. It's typical that Patricia says the thing she minds the MOST is lies. Antonio, did you hear that?
Of course, we're also hoping for Griselda and Reinaldo to be able to openly declare their love. And that's getting closer and closer. We do have the fact that Reinaldo is married. But if he gets divorced, or separates from TC, THAT's probably when Griselda's husband will show up!
One thing we don't know is if Antonio will continue to be somewhat bad, or will change.
This whole poor/rich thing is really being emphasized, even the minor characters are doing it, such as Leonardo complaining about his tennis shoes to his hard working Mom, Clara (yes, I would like to see her with Gabriel).
wow, another fabulous recap AnotherAmy,
it always amazes me that when a person moves, they can put a lifetime of stuff in one suitcase, and when they move into a new home, they are always come fully furnished, including fresh flowers, food, and in Mariano's case, pictures of his family,
so... did I get this right, JM and Tomas are socias, so JM was a bit concerned that Tomas is making Ignacia a partner without ever consulting him,
wow, a day in the life of Ruben,
(with his new bruised and battered look),
first the tag team match of AA and Estela, he finally escapes,
next Ignacia asking about his bruises, Pedro behind her leering, he quits and runs,
and on to Lupita at the office, bravo Lupita! she leaves, he stays, stunned,
next Ruben at home packs his things and leaves for the apartment, while bouncing off Estela and Tomas,
and on to meet his father, no, no, don't touch me,
and then off again, (but to where)
I'm a bit slow on this, but it really hit me last night that Pedro and Ruben are brothers,
Mireya'a lie about being pregnant,
is a pretty good example of how they can take on a life of their own,
(not that she has any other lies),
haha, having Mireya roll down to the store to do the days shopping,
it's like when she offered to cook up a big dinner for everyone,
how do you do that in a wheelchair?
(loving Sofía Lama, she was great in Rosa Diamante as well)
haha, Tomas in that egg chair,
trust me, I'm your husband,
and Estela asking for help on Lupita's prgnancy,
I guess the push down the stairs thingy doesn't always work so well,
yes AnotherAmy, if I got this right, Gina was asking Lupita for directions to the apartment where Mariano now lives, (but Lupita didn't want any more family meddling), but then later Lupita asked Pedro for directions to Tomas' new house, so she could have another place to never see Ruben again,
wow, there is so much going on here, that by the time anyone figures it all out, it has all changed.
yes, great story, and great recap Hombre,
I didn't think Aurelio would go through with it, but when Monica spilled the beans about setting up the car bomb against Ximena and the kids, not much more to say,
(I'll miss her, what a tremendous performance by Fernanda Castillo)
so now the Robles are gone, and soon maybe Cabo/Tijerias,
Topo doesn't care much for Aurelio,
and Randy/Turco are setting up,
so how will the business now work for the Casillas,
was Don Cleto's body in a crypt?
and did the doctor get fingerprints, or did he try something else?
glad that Benitez ran Castro off,
wish Leo would just plug that mole,
security chief wanna-be Matilde sure gave Turco the evil look,
so what is Aurelio's plan?
I noticed Beto's concern with the new arrangements,
Turco seems to have changed, like he has a dark shadow over him,
and Ximena's love is for her family, not so much for him, is what I am getting.
Deb, right, I forgot, Aurelio said he killed Isidro because Isidro had tried to kill AC's family, but Monica brazenly said no I did it, she'd do ANYTHING to have Aurelio all to herself. Unfortunately, Aurelio doesn't think this is devotion, it's just sick. Which of course it is. It's funny how much I was rooting for Monica, as horrendous as she was. She really was a multi-dimensional character.
Another perfect recap, AnotherAmy. I really couldn't enumerate everything that made me laugh...every single word was hilarious. Still, I'm gonna have to try:
Oh.My.Sheesh.
It was AWE. SOME.
That's my little bomboncito..
Blackmail Sandwich....PERFECT!
Weird egg chair was funny, too.
I'm still watching the episode, but I have to say that this is shaping up to be my favorite episode, too.
Again...what is the deal with Gina?!
Am I the only one who's starting to think Iggy was dropped on her head as a baby? Why is she still in that house with that vile, slimy man?
SANTA DIABLA
If Cielos is ending Aug 2, will it be replaced by this one. The Telemundo site still just says "Muy Pronto."
Another Amy, yes, another out of the ballpark recap! We do have to find you a new drinking hame, perhaps everytime Lupita tells Ruben, "this is the absolute last time you will ever see me!" That should guarantee a good buzzz...
Deb and Sara, thanks also for your comments, it never dawned on me that Pedro and Ru-ben are brothers.
Okay, questions:
Who is Lupitas's Daddy? Have Estela and Ru-ben never heard of court ordered paternity testing? Why can't I find a spoiler website to explain all this confusion about Gina?
J in Oregon
You're a hoot, J in Oregon. Spoilers are my weakness. I'm kind of glad there aren't any for this one. I got some spoilers for AV and it ruined the experience for me. I don't have the strength to resist them.
The whole time Ru-ben was going on about "proof" I wanted to reach through the screen and go Estela on him. How can Lupita "proove" it's his until the baby is born?
I am also wondering who Lupita's dad is. We are in the dark about this "Gina" person, but the same goes for Marge. We have no idea what her background is! (Not that I think it's integral to the plot, but I'm curious.)
TC a killer?! yeah im on board with many of you in thinking TC killed because of an inheritance.
Antonios boat is leaking bad and hes havin a hard time pluggin all the leaks.
I was watching the DAME CHOCOLATE rebroadcast and see Diosdado and Anacleto as Gabe and Manny in this one.
And i still think Patricia looks like Griseldas daughter....
What happens when you get a handywoman working late at night (or early in the morning)for the man she kind of fancies? And said man has a jealous/ craaazy wife? And the handywoman has a nosy friend who wants to be more than that?
You get Griselda, Gabriel, Reinaldo and Teresa Cristina having breakfast at a chic restaurant, and not any kind of breakfast but "huevos divorciados". Get it? And you get all kind of side glances, and double meaning words and some awkwardness, too.
The scene was pretty funny, actually. When Gabriel showed up and TC said something like: does that mean we need another serving, I laughed out loud.
I did like Gris giving Gabriel a good smack down after - I get it that he's in luuv, but the woman is doing her job, he has no place disturbing her with his little scenes, when they are ONLY friends and she repeatedly told him she's not interested.
I found the way he kissed her after out of place, too, because everybody keeps telling him stuff like: "she says no, but she means yes" - the boy is in for a rude awakening.
Hombre, you're right, of course that Patricia will say that lying is the worst for her - if Antonio had been cheating, then cheating would have been the worst and so on.
I hope this fertility story doesn't mess up Esther and JP to the point of no return because she is so excited right now and his heart is totally not into it.
Anyone looking forward to see both Gabriel and K getting all rooster like with Gris when they find out the flowers are from Reinaldo? I kind of get it from K, but Gabriel is really not winning any points with me.
Thanks so much, Hombre. I only got about half of the dialogue last night, so I appreciate your excellent recap.
Was it Juanita or Variopinta who suggested last week that the kneeling figure in the credits could be Turco? I'm getting that sad feeling she may be right. AC has cut Ximena off from the rest of her world and has put her in a position where she has to return submissive to him or lose her kids forever. I think that after she choses to go back to AC, he'll kill Turco.
Also, I'm beginning to think that maybe this TN won't completely parallel the real life AC story. There were numerous rumors and ideas about how Amado died, even whether he really died or just escaped to become someone else. Maybe the writers will serve us another version of AC's life and death.
How many government employees are on AC's payroll? I too hope Leo gets Parra.
Beth
I see the book, "El Senor de los Cielos",
by Andres Lopez Lopez, one of the creators of our novela,
"is now available in bookstores".

But the Cabo-Tijeras relationship is a fun bit even when things go wrong. Tijeras, bless his heart, just wasn't getting the plan Cabo laid forth so Cabo (Milton!) offered to draw him a picture. And hung his head in frustration when Tijeras finally got it. Ha. Thesee guys might make it out after all since everyone else seems to be getting themselves killed. I hope Triste has a nice send off for Moniquita; he'll miss her most of all.
Kelly
Super Hombre,
Find someone that looks like Tijeras,!! Cabo must be snorting his own stuff. I guess if the stand-in is bloody enough & they shave his hair in front, it's possible.
I think the ending will be close, with their own theories. They didn't know a lot about Amado Carrillo, except that he had five children by 5 women, one a Cuban. And he was worth 25 billion dollars. I haven't been able to find anything on his wife.
Pablo Escobar's family fled to various countries, but a lot of them were deported back to Colombia.
Apparently no one wanted them.
Aurelio knows people & he is suspicious of Turco's feelings toward Ximena. If he kills Turco, it wont be pretty, as a traitor & messing with his wife. I think he would kill Ximena now also. He knows Ximena will try to follow the kids to the new safe house, so I can't figure what he's planning.

I'm really enjoying Sonya Smith as Griselda. I had heard of her but I had never seen her in a novela.
A few opportunities to drink last night with Antonio's new lie about who Amalia is and a couple more references to "bigote" and "bigotuda." There was also "hombruna" ("mannish" and in the pejorative sense, "butch"}. And I think Ro got in one of his terms of endearment to TC. ¡Salud! Right now I'm drinking tonic water without the gin because I need to stay awake for my novelas!
DYO
Last night was awesome! I agree Amy–it was the best episode so far. I loved Lupita letting Reuben have it: "basura" "poca cosa" "mezquina."
And JM telling Ignacia about Tomas' plan. He better end up with someone nice.
And Tía Gina's meltdown. I really confused re: her identity. If she's an imposter she's afraid of being discovered by being fingerprinted. Yet she fights tooth and nail for this family which she doesn't belong to. Intriguing.
I like Mariano and since he was married to Estela I can see why he left her for Gina (the real one).
Hombre, many thanks yet again. I really needed this recap, since there were a number of passages that I simply did not understand, especially those involving Cabo and Tijeras. Though frankly, even if I had understood their words, I would have been sure I hadn't, since surely Cabo wasn't saying something so bizarre! I loved Variopinta's take on this: "Cabo must be snorting his own stuff."
I thought the final scene between Aurelio and Mónica was superb. Great acting on both their parts. I've been impressed with Fernanda Castillo throughout this novela, but for most of it Rafael Amaya has seemed to me pretty wooden. But in this scene, he too was very impressive.
Each day, I am increasingly convinced that Turco is the hooded figure being torched in the theme song. Of course, I've been wrong most of the time. I hope that's the case now.
One thing's for sure: the writers surely aren't glamorizing the lives of the narcotraficantes.
One more thing. I assume that since Matilde managed to finesse the pregnancy test, she's planning to have an abortion and not tell Chacorta (or anyone else). But with everyone on super alert, how will she get to someplace where she can have an abortion? And will the telenovela gods let her get away with it?
AS far as the Aurelio character is concerned, he is an in control, cold hearted, murdering bastard, so his wooden demeanor is somewhat expected. He did his scene superbly when he was strangling Don Cleto & so did Cleto.
Part 1
Griselda's house
- everybody wants to know who sent Gris the roses and she tells them it was a true gentleman, Reinaldo Ibarra, as a thank you gesture for her work
- Gabriel is all but happy with the idea, but Antonio steals the scene by pointing out that his mom obviously liked the roses more than the bottle of tequila Gabe brought her
- Rafa arrives with his own flowers for Amalia (shouldn't he have brought some for the mother, too?); chit chat ensues, they sit down to eat, everybody is welcoming to him
- before dinner Gris had explained Gabe that she wants him there as a masculine presence because Amalia's novio is coming and she wants to send the guy the right message; so during dinner Gabe takes this role seriously, asking Rafa what his intentions with Amalia are
- Gris wants to know the same thing and Rafa explains to the pleased family that he wants to be Amalia's novio, then her prometido and later on, with everyone's blessing, her husband...talk about going from 1 to 100 in a split second... they barely even started dating, what if they don't like the same movies or he prefers to watch sports when she wants to go to the theatre? never mind, they're in luuuv...
- during the evening Antonio receives a phone call from Patty, who has a strange feeling he's hiding something from her; Gris answers but then he grabs the phone, tells Patty some lie (DRINK) and then tells his family some other lie(SALUD) to cover
- during dinner Antonio and K get into a fight over Antonio's novia that he keeps hidden from them, so Antonio just has to mention K's wife, Barbara, who cheated on him and then left him and K Junior; K gets upset and leaves the table - Gris forces Antonio to go apologize to his brother; to his credit (and my surprise) Antonio does just that and we have a nice moment between the 2 brothers, with K crying his eyes out over being dumped by the woman he loved and Antonio trying to console him.
- the next morning Antonio goes to Rafa in search for the fancy car he was promised; but later on he is spotted by his mom in said car - Cara impactada de Griselda in seeing her son with such an expensive vehicle.
Part 2
Teresa Cristina's world of crazy
- TC receives a phone call from her tia, but Ro answers; she doesn't want to get the message, she starts acting erratically
- JP receives a call from his tia, too, with the same message to tell to TC; Esther wonders why isn't Iris calling her daughter, Paloma and doesn't seem to happy that JP is the one who has to deliver TC the message from Iris.
- JP and Esther visit TC, but she doesn't want to hear anything about Iris, she almost throws them out; but JP knows his sister well enough, insists they need to talk
- as it turns out, TC already guessed that Iris is coming to Miami and wants to stay in the house; JP points out the fact that TC has all the rights to deny access to the forced guest, but he also has no clue about the big secret between Iris and TC (later on TC remembers how Iris promised not to tell Reinaldo and Patty about TC's crime if TC does whatever she tells her to do)
- once alone, TC decides to leave the house; Ro is horrified that his Diosa Reina (DRINK) left to parts unknown
- Patty has just returned from the restaurant - there she had a talk with Vanessa about her Antonio doubts and Vanessa compared her to mother TC, by saying that surely Antonio is just as wonderful as Reinaldo is and Patty is acting like her mother in doubting him so much; after, she has a chat with her dad, too, and once she gets home Ro makes her worry about TC
- Patty calls Reinaldo, who is still at the restaurant, he has no clue where TC might be, asks his daughter to keep him informed.
- TC goes to visit Paloma, she demands her to call Iris and ask her not to come; Paloma doesn't pay to much attention to a very hysterical TC; I don't know what it is that she does, exactly, but Daniel and some other people (including Olga, the lady who prepares Amalia's creams)are with her, too, and they smoke some natural remedies that have some great effect...maybe someone could shed some light about this
- not getting what she came for (complete obedience from Paloma) TC leaves, but she doesn't get far, because she starts hallucinating some big shadows who torment her, make her scream and roll on the grass...
- Paloma and Daniel hear the screams, go for her - apparently this is not the first time TC had a crisis like this, Daniel finds out, and later on he tells Antonio this on the phone, too (so Antonio is warned that with TC he mustn't joke)
- Paloma calls Reinaldo, the only person who can calm TC; he takes her home and to bed, after giving her a tranquilizer; again we are led to believe TC has crisis like this one once in a while (could it be that's why Patty wants to be a psychologist?)
- Reinaldo is very dotting, he does love TC, after all, as I believe he pointed out earlier to his friend, when he said something like "love is blind"
- the next morning when they wake up TC wants Reinaldo to promise that he'll never leave her.... he doesn't answer right away.
In other news, Manuel is still unable to move and Sol takes advantage of this for now, but I'm scared for her when he gets his strength back.
And Monday should be a fun episode...
Great recap, Adriana. And just in time for my morning coffee. Thank you!
Now we know TC has psychotic breaks when she experiences high levels of stress and needs medication to control her hallucinations and paranoia. This must have been terribly disturbing for the family over the years (as Ro hysterically pointed out to Pati), and I'm sure it's one of the reasons Reinaldo has stayed with TC (guilt - as well as love).
So does Pati have her Mom's crazy genes? Maybe, maybe not. She's been suspicious of Antonio's absences and his less than believable story about Amalia, but that's not paranoia. He's a liar, and she should question everything he does.
I fear for Sol and Mama. Manuel is one nasty abuser, blaming Sol (and ultimately his wife) for the beat down he got. Those two women need to get to a safe house.
Beth
Marco, having told Ximena that the evidence points to Aurelio's having killed Don Cleto, adds that maybe Turco had something to do with the falsified medical records saying it was a heart attack. Ximena looks up at Turco, tell me it isn't true. Ximena, he replies, you know I'd never do anything to hurt you. Marco says if you change your mind, and want to stop protecting your husband, my office is always open. He leaves, and Turco tells Xime they have no proof. I don't CARE about proof, where are my daughters? Where is Doña Alba?
At the new house, Bert questions his father on why they had to leave Ximena at the ranch. Aurelio, drinking heavily, just asks Bert to support him in this. Bert asks why Aurelio did this. Because, son, your Mom betrayed me. How? She doesn't love me anymore, wanted to take my kids away from me. So, replies Bert, you took them away from her? Nah, just for a while, til she changes her mind. So, son, will you support me? Of course, says Bert. Aurelio, getting really drunk now, advises Bert never to fall in love, the woman will betray you. The phone rings. Aurelio doesn't answer, says it's probably Mom, mad at me. Alba comes in, sees how drunk Aurelio is, helps him up, he needs to sleep. The phone rings again, Bert answers, and it's Ximena. Let me talk to your father. No, says Bert, he doesn't want to talk to you right now. Well, he injected me with something in my neck to knock me out, do you think that's okay? Look, Ma, if Pa did that, he had his reasons. You shouldn't have disobeyed him. The girls are here, they're safe, but I'm not telling you where we are. I'm not going against Pa. You'll just have to live with it. He hangs up. Ximena's face goes white, she sinks down in the chair, as Turco comforts her, she blurts out, Aurelio must have killed my father!
Upstairs, Mati tells Chacorta he should take over, Aurelio's gone crazy. No way, says Chacorta, I can't betray my brother. Besides, he has Turco to guide him. Oh, questions Mati, you trust Turco? I just think now is the time for you and me to do something.
Ramiro tells Huerta and Castro the situation is serious, we've got to kill Colmenares. And as for Mejía, he's a dead man, should be killed by Aurelio soon. Ramiro visits Irina, we have to tell Aurelio to hurry up and kill Mejía, or we're both screwed. But Irina can't reach Aurelio, he isn't answering.
Triste confirms to Cabo and Tijeras, that although he didn't see Mónica killed, when they kill the henchmen, you know they're going to kill the boss. He wants to join with C&T to get revenge. They agree they'll need lots of men. Later, Cabo and Tijeras are alone, Tijeras talks on the phone, saying that's right, cousin, come up here tomorrow, we'll meet you. He hangs up, says to Cabo, you think this'll work.? They both look very upset about this, could it be the cousin is going to be Tijeras' double? Cabo says man up, brother, we have to do this. Later, alone in his room, Cabo muses to himself how he misses Mónica, who gave him at least one small bit of happiness. He picks up that huge emerald ring he gave her, says damn you, Casillas, this isn't over yet, I swear to you, my little Mónica, and kisses the ring to seal the vow.
Leo tells Ochoa she's going out to run an errand for Marco. Parra, who works right in that office, follows her. She goes to the newspaper, gives Alfonso the story that Don Cleto was killed and Aurelio is suspected. He'll put it on the front page. She suggests security for Alfonso, he at first refuses, but she says we shouldn't think nothing will happen. So he agrees, I'll follow your advice. Leo drives to a convenience store, we see Parra pull up on a moto, an orange helmet hiding his identity, waiting outside. She comes out, her sixth sense gives her pause, but she gets in the car, and drives off, with him following. She sees the moto, stops the car, gets out, yells, what are you waiting for, bring it on! Parra zooms right at her, she fires, hits him on the arm, he continues straight, she leaps out of the way, turns to fire again, but a truck gets in the way, and Parra (whom she never saw, with the helmet), speeds away. Damn!
Ximena asks Turco, but why did he take the girls? You're not going to like this, Ximena, but I think it was his only way to keep you from talking. But what could I say? I don't know anything. Turco stands up, very serious, towering over Ximena. She asks him, did you know? That paper the cop had, it said my Dad was strangled. Did Aurelio send someone to kill my Dad? No, says Turco slowly, Aurelio didn't send someone to do the job. Aurelio murdered your Dad. She SLAPS him. He says I deserve that and more. But why? She starts crying, why didn't you tell me? I wanted to protect you, I tried to dissuade Aurelio, but he's out of control. Well, where is he? I can't tell you, Ximena. Why not, I've got to get my daughters, she says desperately. No, Ximena, listen to me, if you do that, he'll kill you. If we try anything rash, we're both dead. But I'm going to help you get your daughters back, and we'll leave together. I have a plan. But you have to trust me.
Turco explains the plan (off camera), and Ximena says it's risky. I know, says Turco, but it's the only way. You have to make him think you've forgiven him, then when he least expects it, we act. Ximena says what Aurelio did is unforgivable. And maybe he took the girls to keep her from talking to the cops. But now she almost WANTS to talk to the cops. But she won't. She'll go along with Turco's plan.
Upstairs at the new house, Alba has brought a blind drunk Aurelio, who's ranting, she betrayed me. Oh shut up, says Alba, what you did has no excuse, taking those girls away from their mother, leaving her alone to confront the police. Ah, slurs Aurelio, all you women always stick together. Whereas, we men have to protect you. And we have to protect what's ours. That's what we do. That's why I killed Don Cleto! He wanted what was MINE, and I wasn't going to stand for that. Doña Alba drops the pillow she was fluffing, sinks down onto the chair, in utter shock, saying God protect you son, starts to weep, as Aurelio continues, I had to do it, Ma, didn't want to, but I had to, and the old goat said I'd never get his face out of my mind, and I still have it right here (drunkenly tapping his temple), it's still right here, and then he passes out, drunk.
Chacorta and Matilde meet with Bert, telling him that Aurelio's out of control, maybe we have to take over the business a little. No, says Bert, what we need to do is send Mejía to hell along with his Mom and girlfriend! Upstairs, Mati and Chacorta have sex, it's great. But she wants more from life. She wanted to be a singer, someone important. Yeah, says Chacorta, but you weren't really too good at that, always out of tune and everything. Well, maybe, okay so my singing days are over. And you wouldn't let me be head of security. But I'm gonna ask you a big favor. Let me go to Colombia to pick out new contacts to replace Cabo and Tijeras. Chacorta nixes this too, falls asleep, and Mati gets up, goes back downstairs.
Aurelio has woken up a bit, is in the kitchen, drinking lemonade straight out of the pitcher (I'll forgive all of Aurelio's murders, but this just isn't DONE :). Mati enters, still in her skimpy nightclothes. Aurelio, I want to be more a part of the business. Why don't you send me to Colombia with Bert, and we'll find those drug contacts you need. Aurelio says stop messing with Bert, you just want to get him in bed. Nah, she replies, I don't need to go there to get him in bed, I'm doing it to take away any suspicion on him about Don Cleto. Thanks, Mati, says Aurelio, but I'll resolve my own family problems. Well, she says, speaking of problems. I have a big one. You won't believe this, but I'm pregnant. And I don't know if the father is your brother or your son! So I want to go to Colombia to take care of that little problem (get an abortion). Aurelio can't believe this, what's wrong with you, Mati, you're nuts! Yeah, well maybe, but just send me to Colombia, I'll take care of your cocaine problem, and my little problem, too.
Marco calls Leo, now in her apartment. She tells him about the attempt on her life, he tells her she needs protection, won't take no for an answer. He'll send two guys. The two guys turn out to be Ochoa and Parra! Yes, Parra has gotten back to the station, is cleaning his arm wound, Ochoa doesn't notice, and the two of them go off to “protect” Leo. Uh oh! They arrive at her apartment, she has her gun out, but when the two of them ID themselves, she relaxes, lets them in. They're going to sleep downstairs on the couches, she'll be upstairs in the bedroom. She even slaps Parra on the arm, but doesn't notice his mild wince. She goes up to go to sleep. Ochoa says he'll take first watch, but Parra, the young recruit, says no boss, I came to work, why don't you rest? Ochoa agrees. After Parra checks the outside, he comes back, Ochoa tells him to wake him up if he sees anything strange. Ochoa turns away, Parra takes out his knife, and slits Ochoa's throat!
Aurelio doesn't want to send Mati to Colombia, because he doesn't want her to abort that baby she's carrying. Mati laughs, you kill people every day, now you're into human rights or something? Yeah, well that baby's family. It's my nephew. Or your grandson, she points out. They move to the living room, she sits next to him, brushes his hair out of his face, come on, don't be mean to me, I've been nice to you for 15 years. She moves in close, calls him Papacito, and here comes Bert! What the f is going on? Looking at Mati, he spits out, are you gonna sleep with him, too? You're in your nightgown, all close to him. No, son, says Aurelio, it was just business. Your aunt was just saying you and she should go to Colombia on business, and I was just about to agree. Now I'm going to bed. He leaves, and Mati smiles at Bert, we're going to Colombia! Bert asks her, what's the real reason, you always have an ulterior motive. Fine, she says, I'll tell you the truth. I'm pregnant. And I don't know if it's yours or my husband's. Or my father's, says Bert, spitefully, you'll spread your legs for anyone. She slaps him, don't you dare disrespect me. And as for your father, that's a REAL man. You're nothing but a fraction of the man he is!
Chacorta tells Aurelio he doesn't want his wife in the business. Sorry, bro', but I already told Bert, Mati and Niño to make the arrangements (what a liar). Chacorta is taken aback, since when did you do things without consulting me? (who is Chacorta kidding?).
Parra stands over the sleeping Leo, ready to take her life. All of a sudden, Leo wakes up, grabs her gun, points it at him, but relaxes when she sees it's just her friendly policeman who guards her. A bit confused, she puts the gun down on the dresser, gets up, walks across the room, saying, why are you up here, is something wrong? Parra is silent. Then she sees the knife. And the bloodstain on his shirt. And his intense look. It was YOU, right?
At the ranch, Ximena's in her robe, going to the kitchen for some water, there's a big guard Aurelio left there, told to keep watch, she tells him get out of my way, I'm not escaping. We later see her walk through the deserted halls of the old ranch, pause, and seem to make a decision. She enters Turco's room. He's sleeping, she calls his name, Ali? He wakes up, turns on the light, Ximena, what's wrong? Nothing. You want to talk? No, she replies quietly. I don't know if I'm doing this for revenge, or just because I want to feel what it's like to be with someone again. But I want to do it. She then lets her silk robe slide from her shoulders and lowers the straps on her bra, standing naked before him. O.M.G.!!!!!
Great recap, Andriana. I was surprised (and relieved) when Reinaldo didn't immediately assure TC that he'd never leave her. I find it really hard to believe that a seemingly sane man like Reinaldo continues to love his loquísima esposa; my beanie, already tightened to the max, can't make this work for me. However, Reinaldo's hesitation to give TC the reassurance she seeks gives me hope, both for him and for my not having to find a more powerful beanie.
Wow, Rafa doesn't waste any time with stages of courtship! I loved your observation "what if they don't like the same movies or he prefers to watch sports when she wants to go to the theatre? never mind, they're in luuuv..."
OMG! So much happened in both these shows this week. I NEED to catch up. I think I'll use the excuse of it being too damn hot outside, with a huge possibility of rain, to stay in and watch my recordings. :)
Hombre- Amazing recaps the last two episodes. Really can't wait to see it myself.
Adriana- I love your funny observations about these characters.
Off to watch!
Hombre, you've produced terrific recap after terrific recap, but this one may be the best one yet! I could have gone to bed at 10 pm and not missed a thing--you've captured it all superbly.
So all the secrets are starting to come out. Turco tells Ximena that Aurelio killed Don Cleto, Aurelio tells Doña Alba the same, and Mati announces her pregnancy to both Aurelio and Beto (though not, of course, to Chacorta). But am I right in thinking that Beto still doesn't know that Aurelio killed Don Cleto?
I have a feeling that Ximena may have signed Turco's death warrant by her actions at the end of last night's episode. Even though the ranch is almost deserted, I can't help but fear that someone will see them. Though perhaps there are still too many episodes left for that to happen. Perhaps what's more likely is that Mati will plant more seeds of doubt about Turco in the minds of both Chacorta and the already distrustful Aurelio.
It looks as if Beto is growing a brain. He already realizes that Mati has an ulterior motive for almost everything she does.
Thanks to the very impressive physical fighting between Leo and Marco much earlier in the telenovela, I'm thinking/hoping that Leo will get the better of Parra even though he has a knife that he clearly knows how to use.
OMG recap for an OMG episode, tks Hombre.
Tch, tch, tch Ximena, this will not lead to anything good. And that kept me awake last night. I keep seeing AC pouring gasoline & lighting a match. Turco had a delighted look of expectation on his face though.
Chacorta already has a suspicion after almost catching Turco & Ximena in a kiss. Doña Alba suspects Turco's feelings, she wont say anything. And of course Matilde, who I'm sure will blab to Aurelio.
Leo! get Parra in the family jewels! The only thing, I think she is barefoot, but our girl is resourceful. I wonder if Marco will show up just in time?
So Parra is a Marco office worker, I thought he was strictly a jail worker on AC's payroll. Seems Parra isn't privy to much info, sense he didn't know about Leo in AC's casa. But it does make sense that one of Marco's men would guard Gen Dan, QEPD. I'm starting to miss people.
At least Cabo has a hint of a heart, well, until they called Tijera's cousin for a substitute corpse. This is going to be interesting where Tijeras shows up again. Now see, Cabo isn't going to kill his best friend.
Variopinta, you probably remember this, but Danny was never in a real jail. They turned his office in the police station into a makeshift jail. That's one of the reasons there were never any other prisoners shown. Marco kept threatening to move Danny to a regular jail, but never did. Parra is a young cop. I believe he works in the police headquarters. But of course, he's on Aurelio's payroll, too.
Right now he has a knife in his hand, and I believe a gun in his belt behind his back. Leo's gun is on the night table, closer to Parra than to her. So her odds don't look too good. Except that she's our heroine (I think), and no low level guy should be able to get the best of her. I hope!
Couldn't do the "play by play" this time, but here is a more brief version... feel free to fill in any holes or make clarifications.
Iggy is ticked that Tomas made an announcement to the family that they were going to start a family right away. She leaves the table.
Tomas suavamente convinces Estela to put AA in a nursing home. AA is horrified.
Ruben decides to go live with papa in order to get back at mama. He wants Iggy to break the news to Mommy Dearest.
Marge is holding a grudge against Oleg for abandoning the nietecito celebration to go get drunk.
Karina rats out JM to Tomas, telling him that JM told Ignacia Tomas was lying to her about making her socia. Tomas destroys the office in a rage. JM comes in, T wants him to resign . JM stands strong<3 <3 <3 and calls T an idiot. Tomas punches him in the face. JM refuses to resign, saying that a lot of their projects depend on him, and if he goes, so does the $$$.
Lupita takes the new house address to Mariano (which explains the confusion from Thursday’s episode), who asked her to get Ruben’s location. These two are so sweet together. But she still doesn’t tell him about the pregnancy, but she feels sorry for Ruben (????) because he’s so alone, and needs help. Ruben later surprises Mar by showing up with his things, but he’s not so interested in bonding yet, although he seems to be warming up a bit. I think he’s really going to get into this having a dad thing, and I’ll bet Mar can put the brat on the road to redemption…
Estela waves a check to Lupita in Gina’s face to get Lupy to disappear with Mini-Luben. Gina refuses to accept it, and gets mama-bear with mommy-dearest. I really think that faux-G considers them “her family”… I think she was jealous enough of real Gina’s life that she wanted to take it for her own, which explains her “protectiveness” of Pedro etc. Yes, she’s got this weird thing about Marge, but who said psychosis was simple? Pedro walks into this conversation and hears Estela offer money for Lupita to leave Ruben alone, and goes ape-sh**.
Gina visits Mar at the apartment, and with Ruben looking on, Mariano refuses to believe she is Gina. He tests her, she fails. She leaves. Ruben wants to know the story of Gina, but papa isn’t ready to tell.
Pedro and Ignacia have a desperate make-out session in the trailer. She pulls away, they can’t do this, she’s married and he’s having a baby with Mireya (man, these two really need to get together soon… this conversation had such great desperate undertones and longing) As Pedro starts to explain the baby situation, JM busts in. Pedro dismisses himself, JM tells Ignacia about his confrontation with Tomas, and they try to figure out how T heard about their convo. Iggy has an idea to remedy the situation.
Tomas wants Karina to get rid of JM, convince him to resign, marry him, take him away, whatever. She’s not going to help him… she didn’t mean for him to destroy the business. Honestly, what did she think would happen when she told him??? This broad is a mess.
Ignacia informs Estela they’re having guests for dinner. Estela laments that Ruben has disappeared, and Iggy tells her he’s living with papa.
Marge goes snooping in Gina’s room and finds her passport and credit cards with her real name Berta Suarez. We find out where Squeaky got her whimpering skills.
Gina meets with Braulio, where things get heated, he tries to choke her, she pulls a gun, and then we learn that the two of them planned the death of Gina Perez. BOOM. Fin del capitulo.
Hombre, no I didn't realize Gen Dan was in his office, tks for setting me straight.
Jail just made sense, since most of those guys are on the narco payroll.
P.S. "Boom" did not refer to a gunshot, just a dramatic way to end a recap. Sorry if this caused confusion :)
Sounds like another great episode AnotherAmy, and you have masterfully recapped it again.
I appreciate all the work you are doing on this one!
I am glad you mentioned the chemistry between Iggy and Pedro. It is just amazing and I'll say it...HAWT. These two *have* to be together. When they have scenes together sparks fly, but it's also so sweet and touching and just... *swoon*, *gush*.
Sara C, I KNOW! I love the scenes in the intro and the in-betweens when they're together, snuggling on the couch with wine, at the pier, etc... can't wait for those!!
Nomás is a complete loon!
What a wreck! Utterly destroyed his office, and now he expects Karina to help him get rid of JM.
Now our suspicions has been proved the fake Gina and accomplice killed the real Gina. Still the mama-bear acts are confusing.
The Iggy -Pedro scenes were fabulous! They are soo good together.
Anybody saw the avances, I saw some ad that shows someone going to show up next week and surprise everyone, who can it be?
I’ve now caught up. Thanks again Adriana. Not much to add, but I will say that I also liked seeing more of the family dynamics of the Carrascos. It seems very real, and I like the way they all tease each other. They also know how to push each other’s buttons, and that’s exactly what Antonio did when he mentioned Quique’s ex. I’m glad he went to him and apologized from the heart.
Now that we know TC is truly off her rocker, I worry for Gris’ safety. I also worry for Reinaldo. That was really creepy the way she was just staring at him, waiting for him to wake up and promise he’ll never leave her. Just what will Tia Iris’s arrival do to her last shred of sanity?
Side note: Hello there, Nelson the Hot neighbor! (Was it just me, or was the neighbor who passed by and said hello to Gris in the morning, super cute?)
Oh, as to the hookah Paloma and her friends were smoking, Paloma didn’t seem too concerned when TC threatened to call the cops, so I believe her when she said it was just fruit and herbs. Paloma seems to be all about the new agey, homeopathy remedies—hence her stand with fresh fruit juices and smoothies, and the massages she gives on the beach. He home seems to be a refuge for other people like her, like the lady that makes the natural creams Amalia sells.
My question is, what is Daniel doing there? He seems a bit too straight-laced for all that, but there he was smoking the hookah. Isn’t it odd that he is in the background, but he knows everything about everyone and is connected to everyone? He knows Antonio’s family and all the truth about him; he knows all about Pati’s family and crazy mama (except that she’s a murderer); he knows all the other youngsters/college crowd; and he’s linked to side characters like Paloma. I wouldn’t be surprised if he turns out to be a regular customer at Taco Bar!
Speaking of, isn’t it nice that both of Griselda’s galans know how to cook—down-home food, and high cuisine. Add their gifts of good tequila and beautiful roses, and Gris could learn to enjoy this two galans thing.
The running gag about Amalia’s terrible cooking is cute. She is so eager and happy to cook for the family, and to make that cake for Rafael, but is obviously not gifted in the kitchen. Maybe she will get some lessons from Reinaldo?
thanks so much Adriana Noel, for your wonderful recap,
there is so much chit chat and subtleties here that I am missing quite a bit,
and your summaries really get me back on my feet,
and add so much color,
and great comments Beth, Juanita, Vivi,
I think Rafa was tinkering with his moto when the flowers came for Griselda,
and then went and got some of his own,
yes, this guy moves fast!
Pati is slowly meeting all of dr. Antonio's family, he better hurry up with the fake mom,
I'm really not seeing how he can take care of this whole thingy with ONE appearance by Mirna, let alone have a long term relationship (or marriage) with Pati, without her going, "where is your mom?"
perhaps this show should be titled "worlds in collision" because Griselda's, Teresa's, and Iris/Paloma's worlds are so different, and yet they are all so intertwined, in what is indeed a small world.
great point Vivi, that Daniel is a background guy in all of these worlds,
(perhaps he is the author).
Thanks Adriana, I also loved the family dinner and dinamics, and was surprised that antonio actually gave a heartfelt apology to Qique.
TC hallucinations and fobia seems serious and she might have regular breakdowns thats why Reinalo handled her so easily.
They need to do something about the problem.
Vivi, I'm alos curious about Daniel, and his connections to todos, he seems to be everywhere and knows everybody. Maybe after Pati finds out the lie and dumps Antonio hooks up with Daniel instead.
According to the avances on monday they have the family dinner with the millionaire mom and Gris finds out Antonio's lie, I really-really hope she'll barge in and put him on his place also looks like and interesting encounter between her and Mirna.
MUST SEE TV!
I've been wondering about Daniel for a while and thinking maybe I missed some crucial exposition that explained how he knew the truth about Antonio's mom in the first place... he's very omnipresent it seems. Hmmmm....
once again, another fabulous recap Hombre,
yes I too noticed Aurelio drinking right out of the pitcher,
but you have to give him some credit,
for not putting it back in the fridge,
I thought Leo got a pretty solid shot to Parra's arm,
but I guess not,
Parra sure made short work of Ochoa,
I'm waiting for Leo to do a backflip over that handrail and down the stairs,
Ximena, I don't know what to say about her,
she really got a big dose of what Turco is REALLY like, in Aurelio's world,
as well as all he HIDES from her,
and yet there she stands, at the foot of his bed,
now that Monica is no longer here,
it reminds me of what a terrific job Sara Corrales (Matilde) is doing
the best I've ever seen her,
I've wanted to throw her out of an airplane from the first moment that I saw her,
I don't think Matilde quite understands that once Chacorta decides he is done with her,
she's history,
and I'm too pulling for Cabo/Tijeras to win best couple at the awards show.
"And the heavens opened up...." haha, so funny. So glad that lupita told him like it is. I was also confused about what she was telling marino needing to be there for rueben on fri. The only thing that I could think of was when she told rueben that he wouldn't see her or the baby, he (I'm pretty sure) mumbled something about the baby growing up without a father like he did. Maybe lupita knows how messed up he is by having a crazy mother and absentee father??? If being there for lupita and the baby is his redemption then he still has a looooong ways to go.
JM deserved all three hearts you gave him! I'm glad that iggy has a friend like him. Give it up for smart tn galans!
Marge needs to tell everyone ASAP about what she discovered and then lock her doors because "gina" is very dangerous.
jlk
Beth, I hope you enjoyed your coffee, I wrote it while drinking mine and with the whole time zones thing, it got to you just in time.
I don't think there is anything wrong with Patty, I just think she has a very good intuition; Vanessa was completely exaggerating when she compared her with TC - the truth is Vane seems so smitten with Reinaldo, SHE might be the one to get a little obsessed down the line.
Juanita, I find Rafa so strange, I don;t trust him one bit...Amalia is just so innocent, there is no way he is for real, too.
Vivi, I'm happy you joined us here, too, I'm really liking Marido, and what I like the most is the family dynamics and the way each character is related to everybody else in some way.
Thanks for explaining what it is that Paloma does, I didn't quite get it when I watched.
And YES, Daniel seems to be everywhere and know everything. He did tell Antonio about TC right away, but I have a feeling when the sh!t hits the fan and he'll have to take a side, he'll be next to Patty (I kind of think he has a crush on her that he isn't aware of yet).
I'm gonna have to pay more attention to Nelson, I haven't noticed him yet.
Deb, Rafa had the flowers, too, they were at the back of his motto. I love the way the characters interact, too, that's what I love the most about Brazilian tns and since this is a remake of one...
Irisz, I don;t think we are supposed to post previews for the tns, that is only allowed for the Univision shows.
And to answer your question from yesterday, I think Griselda's house is great: it's big, it has plenty of rooms for everybody and is quite nice - we've seen enough vecindades in out watching tns lives to know that she's actually doing quite well. Antonio is an idiot!
Amy, Daniel knows the truth because Antonio told him, he is the only one who knows his family, too. I guess they met before Antonio knew Patty and built all that rich story for her. I think we should keep an eye on him...he does seem to be kind of omniscient...
Oh, and btw, I think your DYO recaps are hilarious, I'm not watching the tn (lack of time, it didn't really catch me), but I do read what you have to say and you paint a very vivid picture of the facts.
thanks, thanks, thanks, AnotherAmy!
didn't Ignacia have to explain to all at the family dinner (minus moto boy) ,
that she is NOT pregnant,
ah yes, Ignacia and Pedro, they just slowly melt together,
could it be any other way,
poor, poor, AA,
will they really send her away,
will she still be able to smoke,
hmm, the wealthy side of this world doesn't seem to have any servants,
and I can't picture any of this family cooking or cleaning anything,
I wonder where Tomas came from, his family, did he say something about this,
Mariano better start keeping track of his valuables,
with Ruben around,
wow, the Gina story still has a long way to go, as she went from a pregnant servant, to getting the stairway roll by the madame, to being a rich lady in London, to being replaced, and this Braulio guy, he is so creepy looking, we don't even need to hear what they have been up to, to know that it is not good,
interesting that Gina/Berta stopped by to see Mariano,
I guess to cement her position, but it all backfired, now what will she do,
what can she do...
Mariano might want to lock his door as well,
and wow, Margarita, who no one tells anything,
now has the biggest secret of them all.
I'll de careful and restrain myself slip out something that considered a spoiler
