PEAM #115. 08/19/13 - How Low Can You Go? Misery Abounds and a Rash is Unleashed

This picture called Santa Fe Colibri has nothing to do with the story line which is a pack of miseries but I thought we could all think about something beautiful like this little creature while we hear this tale of woe.

Rogelio assures us he is the director and Alma counters with how is he going to explain his useless azz to Pancho Lopez, the big boss. She accuses him of being a jerk who is jealous of her love for Jesús.  As usual, having no way to refute these truths, he retreats in a huff.

Back at Orion we again see MalMelquiades come in with his silly Elvis steps trying to make fun of Jesús and then when Jesús and Julio simply leave the room preferring to ignore his silliness, he brushes her neck and tries make time with Aida on his way out. She is not having it either.

Ricardo complains to Xochi that Maricela is unhappy because she is a lousy fake and recounts how she isn't a princess or even rich and instead is the lowly daughter of the lowly janitor Panfilo.

Again we see Valentina pronounce the only accurate description of Rogelio - MALO. Yup, out of the mouth of babes. Rogelio simply cannot believe there is a female alive that isn't enthralled with him but she isn't his cup of scotch either.

Jesús is finally filling his Lic. in on Rogelio's activity against him, threatening Valentina using Yuri. and his brother has a bad conscience trying to hide Rogelio's illegal activities and money laundering scheme.

Valentina tries to play with Sanson who is good and watches wondering as we all do while Rogelio fears Valentina's touch on Sanson and Veronica is screeching that Val must not touch the dirty dog.  Later, Rogelio who has no idea what to do around a child, suggests she go out and play in traffic (not really but he fearfully lets her go play in the yard with Sanson. At least girl and dog are happy to be step children of the new family unit. Valentina is right to be looking askance, she is about to be swallowed up in a house where none of the adults give a fig about her.

Elias tries to comfort Maricela but now she is cold because she doesn't want to accept anyone's pity.  She is running out of friends fast with this attitude.

Back at the police station, Alma calls Jesús and tries to help him and find out what he is up to but with his usual dislike of telling anyone his problems he brushes off her sympathy and offers for help too. He has to sit with the officer taking the statement from Jesús in contradiction to Veronica's complaint that he came to the house against her wishes.  It turns out, the paternity papers giving Jesús any rights regarding Valentina but they are not approved so he has no rights. His lawyer Astudillo shows up and reminds Jesús that he needs to control himself or he will be in too much trouble since Veronica apparently holds all the MOMMY cards on this issue.

Chef Gil surprised and surprising his old silly friends including Ricardo but he is more than prepared for another visit from the receptionist with the charming horsey laugh.  As he reminds us all she has so many other assets to recommend her as the cameraman obliges with a pan up and down her ummmm… assets in case we didn't catch on. No subtitles needed here.

Paty is seen having a panic attack in Alma's apartment maybe she is going t o steal, maybe drink, no wait, she grabs a cell phone (must be Alma's)and calls Elias who is so friendly and ready to help. They decide to meet.  Elias needs something more to do with his life.

Everyone is sad: Maricela and Xochi go off to confer over coffee.  Susana remarks how sad Panfilo is.  The girly girl now wonders why Catita is sad. Xochi finally gets around to asking Maricela if Ricardo's revelation is true about Maricela's humble status and said humbled one admits it with tears.

Not everyone is sad: Jessica and Cardenas profess love and lock lips of love to prove it. Now she says they can marry. AND NOW THEY CAN REALLY KISS.

Maricela is fearful that she will lose Xochi as a friend too like Ricardo.  Xochi says that won't happen but she can't understand why Maricela has spoken so badly of her father.

Alma calls Rogelio to tell him she needs him to sign some papers when she hears Valentina in the background.  When she asks if that is Valentina, Rogelio says yeah, so???
Just then Jesús comes into Alma's office and learns from Alma where Valentina is.  He runs out of the office as fast as his crutches will carry him.  Alma tries to intercept him. All the lobby help is confused too as is Susana.

Cardenas is dreaming of Jessica's kiss as he begins to sneeze.

Back in the coffee room, in spite of her former haughty way of treating Panfilo, Maricela confesses that she is really worried about her father and his health.  She cries that Ricardo found out the truth and was so angry that now he doesn't care anything about her.

Pati and Elias enter the theater with popcorn and sodas. Elias tells her that his fights with Veronica are continuous and are always the same over Valentina and over money. Someone sits next to them in the theater and Pati is looking enviously at the woman's purse or her cell phone. Is she wanting to steal or wanting to make a phone call?

Jesús shows up at Rogelio's in record time considering his limping on crutches.  He demands to know what Veronica is thinking bringing his daughter here to this den of naughtiness. Veronica is her usual petulant self assuring Jesús that he has no rights regarding Valentina and she has all the right to move in with Rogelio or whomever. Even Rogelio shows his typical QTH - who cares attitude. Close behind, Alma show up with Julio to hear this latest madness of Rogelio and Veronica going to shack up with the sweet little girl and the sweet little dog being hapless victims of their selfishness.

Back at the theater, Patircia is laughing at the movie while she manages to get the next seat neighbor's purse unzipped and fishes out the cell phone while she concerns Elias and the surrounding audience as she tries to cover her furtive snatchings with inappropriate laughing.

Back at Rogelio's den of daffiness, Jesús demands to see his daughter and swears she will not stay there.  Veronica is her nastiest self.  As she refuses to let him see Valentina, and insists that there is nothing wrong with her or Valentina being there to be in a relationship with Rogelio, the little girl and the dog come in and shower Jesús with affection and acceptance.  Valentina even assures everyone that Sanson's bark is this time one of love and salutation for Jesús.  She also calls Alma her friend which turns Veronica as green as her phone so she has to run him out and takes a sad Valentina who at least has the sense to give an affectionate farewell to both he Papa Jesús and her Amiga Alma.  After Alma convinces Jesús to control himself and leave now, Veronica gives beach-y orders to Rogelio's housekeeper.  Snapping her fingers that Valentina is to receive a disinfecting bath and this minute!

Outside, Jesús doesn't know what to do next but is relieved of this hard thinking by Agosto's insistent call on the cell phone demanding that Jesús return to his office to hear something important and PRONTO.  Even Vicky looks uncertain at this amount of anger and battery against a defenseless cell phone.

Speaking of cell phones, to keep the stolen one from being lonely, Patricia adds the wallet from the same purse to go with it. As they are going out of the theater, the robbed woman is realizing her stuff is missing but doesn't put it together as Elias stalls with a phone call but Patricia is determined to make a get away.

Cardenas has a horrible rash according to Ricardo, as he hands him a mirror. Oops lets hope he isn't allergic to Jessica.

Patricia makes it home to Alma's to inspect her purloined treasures.  Elias is grinning and I fear he is falling for the charming thief.

Back at the new family, Sanson and Valentina are quietly doing their homework but Veronica has to make snide remarks.  Rogelio doesn't like her attitude toward Sanson nor does he seem to like Valentina's assertion that Sanson loves her and he loves Jesús.  Veronica wants to celebrate how much they humiliated Jesús, she seems to find it a turn on.  Rogelio seems kind of turned off by having a child witness.

MalMel has a moment of fun stamping denied all over Jesús' loan request.  Jesús grabs him by his opened to the navel shirt but stops short of giving him the concussion we were all hoping for.  For this episode at least.

Next time: Elias is signing divorce papers, Veronica is pulling more dirty tricks while Jesús and Alma are playing Shogun and Geisha.  Should be fun...

Cheryl, thank you for the beautiful photo. You are a very talented photographer and recapper!

I got a kick out of Cardenas and Jessica kissing and join you in hoping that Cardenas is not allergic to her.

The other part I enjoyed was Valentina and Sanson's alliance. Poor Valentina is still being jerked around by her crazy mother.

After so many struggles, Jesus is starting to lose it. I am just surprised it took so long.

Cheryl:

Thanks so much for this splendid recap and loved the hummingbird picture, so beautiful!

Ay yi yi, poor Valentina! I can't stand the fact she is at the mercy of Moronica, but at least she has Sanson and hopefully he will sneak in and bunk with her at night. Moronica needs the anvil and pronto!

I hope Chucho gets a DNA test proving Valentina is his little girl and let's see how Moronica tries to deny him then! Moronica needs a great deal of humiliation, can you tell I can't stand her????

I like how little by little Mari's secret is becoming known and I'm glad that Xochi is sticking by her side. Susanna is mad at her cause she brought Chatita to that club and got that beatdown. I think Jessie would be ok if she knew about Panfilo. I am beginning to wonder if maybe Ricardo is money conscience and that is why he was so attracted to Mari in the first place.

I'm with Jarifa about Chucho starting to lose it. I too wonder why it took him so long. But now he has got this gastritis. We haven't seen him eat since he started being at Augusto's beck and call. The poor guy must be starving! He needs to eat and rest. Did anyone else notice the handshaking while he was drinking his coffee. He is way high on caffeine. I am really worried for his health.

I too hope that Cardy isn't allegric to Jessie.

I love the hummingbird pic, Cheryl. It reminds me of my baby crib-- my earliest memory is of the doctor bird (a type of hummingbird in Jamaica which is also the national bird) painting on the headboard of my crib. Shocked my parents that I could remember something so far back in such great detail.

Although there was a lot of bad things happening this episode, I found a lot to enjoy. I laughed at Rogue and Vero's reaction to each other's children; I loved Val and Sanson together; the scene between Xochi and Mari was very touching-- love how strong and wise Xochi has become; and the kiss between Jess and Cardi was adorable.

I'm going to assume that he's allergic to her lipstick, since the swelling and blotches were in the spots she kissed. I hope it's not an Avon product!

Vivi, that would be funny if it were an Avon product.

Jarifa

Good Morning Mads, Jarifa and Vivi, I agree there was much to enjoy in this episode. I particularly enjoy seeing how far Rogelio's parental feelings toward Sanson are reaching. Too bad he doesn't like Valentina but he seems suspicious (rightly so) that little this saavy little girl sees right through him.

Vivi thanks for the sweet story of your memory of the doctor bird painting on your crib. I bet you parents were amazed. I am always fascinated by what visual stimuli, sounds and smells triggers our memories in preverbal times. I will definitely look up the doctor bird too.

If lipstick or make up is the problem, I hope Jesica can get some non-allergenic Avon products to save the day. Her relationship with Cardenas is a sweet spot in the midst of Ricardo's and Julio's graceless behavior. Of the original silly guys, only Gil seems to have grown and developed, at least so far.

Oh, I never thought about the lipstick! I hope that is the case. I too hope that Avon comes up with a non allergic version of the lipstick.

Cheryl:

Don Gil looks so happy in his new job and I noticed last night that he has matured. I still like Ivonne's laugh, they should get rid of the horse noise.

Vivi:

I too liked your story of the hummingbird on your headboard.

Thank you, Cheryl as always for the picturesque recap. You are an awesome photographer. Rogue and Vero are definitely not "parents of the year". Poor Val and Sanson. Val is growing before our eyes. She is losing her front teeth which makes her even more cute.
Jess and Cardenas are great together.
Add my to the camp that thinks that Cardenas is only allergic to Jess' make up. They are cute together. What is Ricardo's problem?? Did he fall in love with a rich girl or is he upset that Marisela lied??
Paty is still up to her old tricks. She really needs help. I was so hoping that she caught herself and didn't steal from the lady sitting next to her.

Beautiful birdie picture, Cheryl. Great recap, too.

Moronica is nothing if not audacious. Inviting herself to move in with a guy she's only been snoozling for a few days? And bringing her daughter, too? Is she still deluding herself that her goal is to get Chucho back, or is she now content with lashing out and making him miserable? I hope Elias gets his divorce on favorable terms, and soon. Even if he seems to be walking right into another troubled relationship.

Why does Orion have so much more work to do than Avon? Haven't they heard of the "work smarter, not longer" philosophy?

I'm thinking Cardy is just allergic to some product Jess is using, too. Maybe it's the pheromone stuff? Surely the problem will be solved when she switches to the superior Avon product.

I hope they don't go all wonky and start believing that Cardenas is allergic to Jess. I'm not going to like it if it goes there. I'm sure it's the lipstick. That would be more believable.

I noticed that Xochi is giving hugs and kisses. Remember when she was so awkward when people tried to hug her?

My mother has hummingbird feeders. They are amazingly beautiful birds. There are a couple that visit the bushes outside my apartment window. I remember staying at a B&B and when my husband (at the time) and I sat out on the balcony, they were not happy. They dive bombed us :)

Oh Cheryl...I know I should read the recap but all I really want to do is look at....and meditate upon...that exquisite picture. Did you take that, my friend? If so, you are a genius. Looking at it is like going on a spiritual retreat. Seriously. Beyond lovely.

Along with everyone else, I too loved the photo Cheryl. But your recap was right up there with it's awesomeness.

Have to say, first night I could watch in a week and I was a tad disappointed, mainly because I can't abide the Vero manipulation of Val and the Augusto attitude towards his workers, albeit the looney tune MM, is getting tiring. Why would anyone want to work there? I think we are getting set up to have something in the health department go very wrong for Chucho--he's even losing his usual calm and level-head in crisis mojo.

Loved Xochi this episode. She's quite growing into herself and it was sweet how she supported Mari.

At the very beginning of this TN I thought maybe Patimelt and Elias might be a good hookup, but now that I see them together, not so sure. Can this guy cut a break and not have someone with so many issues?

Thanks to all the recappers last week. Made for good mid-day reading over a cup of tea at break time.

I still think Elias and Delia should get together.

Thanks for the kind comments about my hummingbird photo. Yes, it is mine. It is a multi-sync flash set up that I control with a master radio unit attached to my flash shoe on the top of my camera that signals to several speed flash units positioned around the flower or feeder where the hummers will be attracted. When the hummer comes in, with practice you can gage that he/she is in the right focal plane and you pop off the shutter release hoping for a bird doing something interesting and in focus. The strobe flash action freezes the wing movement and with good precision lenses you have an image of a hummingbird you can't get with non-flash methods and most likely you never see with the naked eye. Probably more than you wanted to know about the technique, but there it is. I am totally addicted to it and it is why I keep going back to Costa Rica to work with the guys who have taught me how to do this. Now to save up to buy the flashes, stands and all the equipment needed to set up a station. Then you need a chair, a cold beverage of your choice and Voila!

I am worried about Elias being stuck with all the wrong women. He is way too sweet, kind, caring and mostly smart (except about women apparently) so he deserves something better than scheming Moronica and whining Maricela and light fingering Patricia. Maybe Delia is a good choice, Julia. I can envision playing around with handcuffs and ....oops, still she would be reasonably sane.

Plus they could go by the combined name Delias.

Cheryl thanks so much for the beautiful picture and your recap. ITA w/you about Elias. That is why I'm sad silly #2, Julio(I love this actor but not excited about his character) is currently being set up to be w/Aida (Chucho's sec). She seems like the most drama free female on this TN and hence a good match for Elias.

Ah Cheryl, laughing about your handcuff fantasies! Not sure who Elias should end up with, but I sure felt bad for that poor women in the theatre who lost both her cellphone and her billfold. Patticakes is lethal!

Cheryl, your picture...WOW!! Just marvelous. And even though I won't remember your method I still enjoyed hearing about it. How fascinating.

I laughed at "Rogelio's den of daffiness" because that is the absolute perfect description. I just wonder how long he's going to last with Vero completely taking over his house. Probably as long as she continues to stimulate him I guess.

Cardenas and Jess were quite adorable but I dread that the writers will turn his allergy into a dreary story line.

Cheryl, thank you for your fun recap. Now I think I will make a cup of tea, sit outside, and enjoy the hummingbirds.

Judy, I was sooooo disappointed in Pati too. I hope the woman tracks her down through the cell phone use and gives her a big scare. Then maybe she will get help.
