PEAM, Tuesday 8/27/13 (#121): Nothing Happens Today. Maybe Tomorrow.

Okay, I'll recap it. But I'm telling you, hardly anything happens. A few things are wrapped up and a few things get started, but this is mostly fluff and filler. Cheryl's "next time" from last night pretty much covered the whole thing. It's not good when the avances can double as the next night's recap!

Oh well. Let's start with the rewind:

Cantú gloats prematurely, thinking that Chucho will be late with the payment for Chatita's house, but bwahahaha he and Rogue are thwarted again. In a brief conversation with Chucho, Cantú reveals that Rogue doesn't actually pay him; Cantú makes money as a side-effect of working with Rogue, or something like that. He doesn't really elaborate, but I'm sure Chucho is filing this away mentally for when it's time to connect the dots a few months down the road.

Cantú lets Saturn know to call off the eviction, and there is much rejoicing in the neighborhood. Chucho signs some paperwork while his innards rumble ominously; Cantú jokingly warns that he shouldn't let the stress kill him. Ha, ha, ha. Meanwhile, Augusto waits impatiently for Chucho to come back to the office.

At Avon, nearly everyone in the company is in a meeting except for Jess, Sue, and Pánfilo. Rogue has to step out of the meeting to take a call from Cantú who's giving him the bad news about Chatita's house. I don't know why Rogue takes the call in the lobby instead of in his office, but Jess and Sue hear him cuss out Cantú by name.

Morónica meets with her lawyer and scolds Domitilia for attempting to serve coffee with a mismatched pot and cups. The lawyer warns Moron that she could actually go to jail for denying Eli his visitation, so Eli will get to see Vale after all.

Paty stews over the fact that she not only lost her job on Two-For-One Wednesday, but didn't even get paid for the work that she did. She feels worthless.

Chucho gets back to the office, where he is chewed out by Augusto and Melquiades.

Chucho meets with his own lawyer, who tells him the judge has ordered the DNA test for Valentina. They'll give their samples tomorrow and it'll take about a week to get the results back. (Check your calendars!)

Eli arrives at Rogue's to pick up Valentina. I see Vero's wearing relatively sensible shoes today. She reminds Eli (AGAIN) not to let Chucho see Valentina. Eli does her the great favor of taking Sansón along too.

Also, at Avon:

- Mari tries (again) to explain herself to Ricardo. She tells him about her mother abandoning her and her father to run off with a rich guy. Ric expresses some sympathy, but he's not over his anger yet.

- Jess breaks up with Cardenas, out of love, because she feels bad about giving him hives. I don't understand, and neither do Cardenas and Ricardo and Xochi, why she doesn't wait to see how the allergy shots work out before crushing his dreams, but I suppose it's not up to us. She gives back his ring.

- Cardenas and Ricardo commiserate: Cardenas blubbers; Ricardo squeaks like a brokenhearted Muppet.

Augusto's in a better mood now. He tells Chucho he liked his presentation and he noticed that when he was talking about the car, he kept looking at Melvis. Does Chucho suspect that Melvis had something to do with the car's breakdown? Chucho says yeah, he does suspect that. He asks why Augusto doesn't tell Mel he's his father. Aug thinks Mel is bad enough now; just think what he'd be like if he knew his father was the director of Orion! (I think Augusto has it backwards, but I'm sure he'll soon see the error of his ways.)

Alma meets with Eli, Valentina, Rai, and Sansón at Chatita's house. Apparently this is the first time she's seen Rai as a girl; Alma is surprised. They are preparing a surprise thank you party for Chucho for saving Chatita's house. There is lots of food - with lingering close-ups. I see a dish that looks like feijoada, whatever they call the Mexican equivalent. Chucho refuses a cup of hot chocolate because of his gastritis; smarter people would rush their friend to the hospital immediately, but it's been a long day so maybe they're off their game.

Chucho tries to scold Valentina for her little froggy prank on Rogelio, but has a hard time hiding his laughter. Eli says he talked to her teacher, and she has to behave better at school.

From the hospital, Martha calls Chucho. She'll be kept there for observation for a couple of days, but she's worried about her mental illness which the hospital apparently isn't dealing with. She has something important to tell Chucho and has to see him right away. He says he'll see her later.

Eli invites Paty to join the party and meet Chatita and Valentina. (As they all congregate in Chatita's living room, complete with Rogelio's dog, it occurs to me that Chatita has now befriended nearly everyone in Monterrey and she could probably start a cult.)

Paty shows off a photo of herself as the Unhappy Hamburguesa (it's on her phone - so who took the picture?) and everyone laughs. She is hitting it off with Chatita and Valentina right away.

It's time for everyone to go. Rai takes Valentina aside and gives her a tube of Superglue. Valentina hesitates; she promised not to play any more pranks.

Chucho and Alma say goodnight. He has things to do, so she'll be alone tonight. (I think a storm's coming, because the parakeets are very loud. Televisa will master the fine art of sound editing someday! I just know they will! Maybe!)

Rogue goes home and notices that Sansón is missing. He panics. He doesn't feel any better when Vero says she let Eli and Valentina take him with.

In the car, Eli acknowledges that Valentina should never lie, but asks her not to let her mother know that she saw Daddy Chucho today.

Chucho is back in the office with Julio and Aida, when suddenly he feels woozy. OR DOES HE? Tune in tomorrow to find out!

I didn't take great notes and haven't re-watched yet, so I may need to add a few tweaks tomorrow if it turns out I missed something important. But seriously, I think the highlight of the night was the close-ups of the food. Or maybe Xochi hopping up and down while talking to Jess in the restroom. (Xochi doesn't talk and pee at the same time!)

My Comcast issues are resolved (in ten minutes on the phone today, in contrast to the 2.5 hours of fruitless torture I spent at their website last week). For a while there I wasn't sure if I'd even be able to continue recording the show, but all is good now. Phew!

Thanks, Julie, for the blow by blow recap of what you aptly described as an episode where barely anything happens. It was good to hear that your cable issue has been resolved.
Some websites out there are very inadequate without a real person to talk to.

Jarifa

Thanks Julie! I'm also glad your cable issues are solved.

The best parts of the episode was seeing Val with her dads, and seeing Chatita's little family all together. Also, Pati, Elias and Chatita having a good laugh at the pic of Pati in her burger constume. It's good that she has such a great sense of humor about it, and it's good to see Elias laugh too.

Maybe Chucho is pregnant?

Julie thanks for your recap and happy you resolved your cable issues. Sorry it was another filler episode.

Vivi - thanks for the chuckle regarding Chucho being pregnant!

Seems like someone ought to be preggers by now, doesn't it?

Thanks Julie! Your recaps are always a delight, and your lines are so much more clever than the original script. "smarter people would rush their friend to the hospital immediately, but it's been a long day so maybe they're off their game." I rest my case.

I'm so glad to hear you got your Comcast issues worked out. It took a phone call and a human to fix it? There is hope for us yet.

Julie:

Thanks so much for this marvelous recap. I thought the best part was Paty, Chatita and Elias too. Paty and Elias are so darn cute.

Poor Cardy. I hope this vaccine works and Jess and Cardy get back together.

I too wonder if Melvis knows he is Auggie's. He sure acts like it doesn't he? All entitled and all. Hmmmm........

I loved the food porn this epi. We have been missing that, they haven't shown any lately.

For a filler this epi really wasn't bad, oh, and the best part for me was seeing Royer's mis planes foiled again! Yay! Dude needs to give up already! Thanks Julie and so glad your cable issues are solved : )

Oh and Vivi:

I was snorting my sleepy time tea with the Chucho pregnancy, lol.

Julie, thank you for this funny and charming recap while we are still in the doldrums. Perhaps food porn was the best part of it, what lovely photography of all the celebration dishes at Chatitas.. I did love Pati being able to show her cell phone pic and make fun of herself with good humor. It is a major breakthrough with Pati. She is definitely becoming a different and better person even if she doesn't trust herself with children too much.

Thanks, Julie. Your recap was fun.
There may not have been a lot of plot advancement but this was an episode full of lots of fun bits and exposition.

The Jesús & Vale reunion was worth the price of admission. They have such good chemistry. The look on his face when he is with her is priceless.

Watching the company meetings with Alma's new attitude toward Rogelio is also fun.

The Marisela / Ricardo conversation was touching & the melting of Ricardo's heart is aptly being played out slowly. It would be unreal for him to forgive too quickly. After all she caused him to lose everything by demanding that he treat her like a princess when his credit card wouldn't support the expense. I'm glad he brought up how he got evicted & lived in the warehouse.

Rai & Val are so cute together.

Love the look on Elias' face whn he sees Jesús & Val together. He's also cute with Paty.

All in all -- one of my favorite episodes i a while.

It was a fun episode, I'll admit it. I was just frustrated because I wanted something to happen. And the pace of the editing was more frenetic than ever.

I miscalculated last night and deleted the episode before I could rewatch it, momentarily forgetting that I am no longer recording a second copy on another machine. (Long story that has nothing to do with Comcast.) Sorry. :( I know I left some stuff out. No one will hurt my feelings if they want to add details I'd forgotten.

Say, is it possible that Paty could still find out she's pregnant with Rogelio's child? Or was their last time too long ago already?

That would be a perfect twist since there have been no unplanned pregnancies yet. With telenovela time all things are possible so why wouldn't a Paty Rogelio pregnancy?

Did we ever find out why Jesus is on crutches?

Variopinta- In real life, FC hurt his knee in those last fight scenes filmed with Yuri. In the show, since these scenes were not filmed in order, they had to suddenly make up the story that Jesus hurt himself accidently because he was so busy rushing around for his new job and all the stresses in his life.

I have to bow to our wonderful recappers who always stir up a recipe for laughs with the most boring of episodes. Julie, this was great. Gourmet meal out of nothing in the fridge!

Speaking of, little food porn never hurts in a Meh episode. The rice dish gave me an idea for dinner for tomorrow with friends. Short of that, seeing everyone together at Chatita's was cute and hats off to Eli for getting Val and her Dad together. Smiles all around.

The rest, gees writers, there is such a thing as real plot. I worry with so many episodes still to go, are we going to get more of these "FO" (filler only) episodes. You know, they could throw in a shirtless moment to spice things up...just sayin'.

Vivi--I had to wipe up the laptop screen from a coffee accident reading your pregnancy line, but thanks. Best laugh I've had in days!

Of course, sometimes things get reallllly quiet in a TN just before all hell breaks loose...

Hi Ms. Julie...Like everyone else, delighted your Comcast issues have been resolved. And with a telephone call! Always encouraging.

You write so well, that anything you cover, no matter how dull the episode, will sparkle. And this one did not disappoint.

I was secretly delighted that Valentina and Ray seem to be ignoring Chucho's well-meant lecture on "no more tricks". Clearly, virtuous, honest behavior with Veronica does not result in anything comparable from her...so let the Dirty Tricks continue.

Vero's treatment of Domitilla is so insulting, that perhaps Val will find an ally in her. Basically it's to everybody's advantage to get the Virus out of Rogelio's house.

The Paty/Elias interaction is looking more and more promising. He certainly laughs a lot more with her than either Vero or Marisela.

JudyB, that's a good observation about Elias laughing more with Paty than with the others. He does seem to have a good time with her, and he has even sought her out when he needed a shoulder to cry on. She's got her issues, but maybe being with a nice, normal guy will be good for her.

What's going on with Paty's kleptomania these days? Did Alma ever get Paty to shrink or return those stolen items?

Vivi
Where did you find that piece of info about FC? I thought that might be the case & did a search, but came up with nada.

Variopinta- Here you go: http://bit.ly/13iSdQZ

Hmmm... I don't think there's been any follow-up on Paty's kleptomania (or maybe I blinked and missed it).

And hey, now's her chance to return Marta's pen, too!

Ugh... I wonder where Marta is going to live after the hospital releases her? I know Chatita is usually the answer to all housing issues, but in this case it's probably better if she lives somewhere else. Maybe Xochi's place?

Thanks, Julie. Excellent as usual.

Maybe Marta can live in Marisela's old cardboard house.

Thanks, Julie! Sorry you got such a dullsville episode, but at least there was a little happiness. Pati and Elias do seem happiest with each other.

Marta needs to go to the manicomio. She's crazy and dangerous. Seems like Chucho could also get in trouble for not reporting her location to the police, since she's wanted. I'm sure he thinks he can cure her with his Care Bear Stare, though.

I don't understand Augie's logic. Seems like if he admitted Melvis is his son, their would be no threat of blackmail hanging over him anymore, so he would have much more ability to influence his brat offspring for good. MalKid is an adult, so he isn't forced to support him...he could certainly tell him to shape up or be cut off financially.

Good job, Julia.
I thought that this filler episode was a feel good one. I think that it was the food.
I was happy that Val and her two dads were able to be together. I'm liking the interactions between Paty and Elias. I wasn't sure at first but the more that I see them together, the more that I like them.
I'm also happy that Augusto congratulated Chucho for the presentation because as a boss he was becoming unbearable.
Glad that your Comcast issues were resolved.

Oops, sorry
Thank you, Julie

"Care Bear Stare," LOL!

The other reason Augusto should not only admit to being Melqui's dad, but ANNOUNCE it, is to make it clear to Mel that he sucks and the only reason he's been tolerating him was because of the embarrassment. And now he's going to be held to the same standard as all the other employees, including Chucho who manages to finish all of his work even with legal issues, a malfunctioning car, an angry stomach, and two busted legs.

OMG Julia! Care Bear Stare. LOL! Yes, Chucho seems to think he can heal the sick, make the blind see and the crippled walk (although he can't do that for himself).

Add me to the list of those loving Care Bear Stare. Beginning to understand why Chucho, while gorgeous, can also be so annoying at this point.
