Qué Bonito Amor #112 (Mex 150) Wednesday 9/18/13 A Night of Filler Flashbacks

Dr. Kill-dare aka OJ aka El Padrino aka Giuliani – replay of him being pithed off to learn Maria's in El Lay.  He refuses to allow Santos to be happy with his love – absolutely not, capice?

Replay of Maria singing at the fence as lightning bolts streak across the sky and as we discussed yesterday, Santos inexplicably can hear her and responds.  The two lovebirds sing in harmony despite the distance between them.......yeah, ok  whatever.  “I love you!”  “I love you more!”

Mancia scolds Susie.  Susie pleads for some privacy to speak with Irasema but she don't want nothin' to do with him. He lied to her, he's broken her!  He swears he didn't kiss Mirna – she kissed him. Irasema's heard that one before.  Mancia agrees with her.  Irasema tells him again she wants nothing to do with him.  She grabs her mop and bucket and leaves in a huff.  Mancia lays into Susie, saying he doesn't deserve Ira's love.  She wants to have a serious discussion with him.

Wendy and Justo fawn over the baby through the glass.  Justo's amazed she would instinctively know which baby is hers.  She tells him the baby will be named Grace after Grace Slick --- ah just kidding – she's given her the pet name he always called her mother, Gracia,  because she's a divine grace.

Michael's amazed at Santos' singing ability and also his love for Maria.  Santos is worried about her being alone in the big city.  When he arrived in el D.F., she showed him the ropes but she doesn't have anyone to help her in El Lay.

Maria's still risking a lightning strike outside, guess the armed guard decided to leave her there.

Santos continues to reminisce his first days in D.F and we have lots of filler flashbacks.

Doctor tells Justo she expects to release Mommy and baby very soon.  Standing behind her is the hospital administrator who gives him the bad news that unless the hospital bill is paid, mommy and baby won't be allowed to leave.....wait, what?  Can they do that?  Susie overhears and is very concerned.

Santos continues to worry about Maria who we next see at a filthy motel room.  More filler flashbacks of Santos' first night in D.F.  Maria smartly uses her reboso as a pillowcase and blanket.  Santos continues to worry about his bonita -ugh

Susie calls MilAmores to gather the Mariachis.  They need to come to Amalia's rescue.  Susie's put two and two together and has realized that Amalia won't be able to leave the hospital until her bill is paid.  Achis, Achis!  Not to mention that Justo also doesn't have the funds needed to cover Wendy's bills as well!

Elvirus speaks to the bank about making another deposit.  Bank guy suggests that with all this money she's been depositing, she should consider building a portfolio of investments that will earn her plenty of interest.  She sees $$$ dancing around her greedy little brain.

Wendy visits with Amalia who seems to be posing for a portrait with Isa and Paloma.  They speak of the wonder of motherhood.  Justo joins them, plainly concerned about the hospital bills.  His  credit card are maxed out.  Without funds he won't be able to bring any of them home.

Morning dawns and Maria is still in that horrible hotel room.  She's got to go find a job and call her mother.  “All in the name of love.”

Back in the jail workshop, Santos' friends are in awe of Santos' voice.

Maria returns to her room, apparently after a shower.  She prays for help in finding a job,  “all in the name of love.”

Santos worries about his bonita (ugh)  Cellmates ask him to sing a song for her.  He sings and
Colosso picks up the song while on the road with Rigoberto.

Maria looks for a job.

Wendy worries that they can't come up with a plan, she'll never be able to leave here with her baby.  Amalia's sure something will turn up.  Right on cue, Fer and the muchachos – well 7mares and Bufalo anyway – he assures them they are with them through thick and thin. Not to worry, cuz Amalia has come up with a plan – she's decided to sell her interest in JNTR.

Maria looks for a job

Mancia calls Susie a patan – whoa!  Has he forgotten that Ira stood by him when he was in jail?  He's a womanizer just like his father!

Speaking of which,  Concho is worried about what's going on at the bar.  El Virus breaks the “bad news” that Susie is inept at managing the bar.  Why, he's even closed the bar for two days. Imagine that!  Concho begins to have a conniption.  He leaves to go find Susie.

Amalia finds everyone is against her plan to sell.  She's sure her Pedro would have supported her in this.

Susie and Mancia continue to argue when Concho arrives.  Concho literally gets in his face, demanding that Susie give him back the bar.  He's not about to stand by and let JNTR go down the drain due to Susie's ineptitude!  He's put his whole life into that bar.  Susie agrees to return the bar on one condition:  Concho must apologize to Mancia for having humiliated her.

Fer's dad tells Michael he is now a father. “Nando” confesses he doesn't know if he's ever had children but curiously has had a feeling recently – ever since he met the paisano.  Somehow he's connected to Nando's past – he just knows it.

Justo tries to reason with Amalia, asking her to reconsider about making such a huge sacrifice.  Amalia feels it's high time she go back to work (gasp).  She makes a big speech about how Maria has always taken on the entire burden on her shoulders.  She knows everyone has felt the impact of Maria's absence.  But they're family and united; they can overcome anything, etc, etc, etc.  Fer agrees and swears that when Santos and Maria return, they'll find everything will have improved.  All for one and one for all, “Mariachis somos!”

Maria interviews for a waitressing job at a Mexican restaurant, of course.

Susie insists that Concho apologize to Mancia.  Concho refuses to humble himself in front of someone of dubious character.   Ouch!  “So your pride is more important than recovering your bar?” asks Susie.  Concho fights back, refusing to be insulted.  Susie tells him if he doesn't like it, he can just get the hell out.  Concho turns to leave but suffers a pain at the door and he clutches his chest.  Ruh-roh.  “My heart!”  Susie figures he's faking it – his heart is too rotten.  But Concho's not faking – his eyes roll back in his head – eeewwwww!!!!  Susie starts to get concerned.

Ana and Fer get ready to see the social worker about Jalisquito.  Fer is still pithed at the social worker.

Nando continues complaining about his memory, or lack thereof.  Santos comes back to the cell and mopes about his bonita (ugh).  He's not like “mil amores”.  The name seems to mean something to Nando and Santos describes his friend and his guitar.  Another flashback of he and Maria discussing Fer.   Nando has a dizzy spell, saying the name “Mil Amores” has triggered a memory --- wait, his name is also Fernando Beltran and they once called him Mil Amores.  Hold the phone, “So you're the father that abandoned Fernando!”

Bid Bad Social Worker Lady isn't allowing Fer to see the little twerp.  Furthermore, she tells him that since Jalisquito is originally from Guadalajara, he'll have to be transferred to the orphanage in Tlaquepaque.  Gasp!  No puede ser.

Nando denies he abandoned his son.  He doesn't feel well.  He's spent many years trying to figure out who he is and when he finally figures it out, he finds that he's a jerk! He leaves the cell.  Santos is told he has a visitor.

OJ is on a street somewhere, can't tell if in L.A. or D.F., brandishing a gun saying he's come for Maria.

Santos' visitor is Carl Summers, prosecutor (I think) in his case.  He's come to tell him that his case has been pushed up.  He has enough evidence to get the maximum sentence for each of the charges against Santos.  Santos will surely be convicted within 2 days.  (If only justice worked that quickly in real life!)

Gracias, Paquita.

So where is Santos' lawyer? I'm guessing he will now have to act in his own defense, but not only is he not a lawyer he may be too hot-headed to pay sufficient attention to detail to do the job.

Maria can't do it because she is not qualified. It would also expose her being in the US illegally and that would be a huge setback for him as well as putting her own future in jeopardy.

She better have a good memory for faces because of Giuliano showing up in the restaurant. Unfortunately, she is in no position to request police protection from him.

But don't Curtis & Derecho know that she's in LA and aren't they the ones who got Maria in the prison to see Santos? If she could get hold of them, she might be able to get some protection, seeing as the perp is OJ.

Usually a hospital will put you out if you can't pay the bill.

Maria goes to the furniture store to get a job (LOL @ employee requested sign) and some random dude waiting outside tells her "Hey, it's hard to get a job. Keep the faith". LOL

Unless Carl Summers is offering a plea deal why visit Santos to inform him of the trial date? And more importantly, where is Santos' lawyer?

AND...if Justo had 10 million dollars laying around (before OJ's blackmail) why wasn't that money used to hire the best defense attorney in Los Angeles?

And why are/were the following characters deficient in English?

Wendy Martinez de la Garza*

Michael Johnson

Arnold Smith

Carl Summers

The black prison guards

Darren

Curtis

Derecho

Police Supervisor over Curtis/Derecho

Prison Warden

The border patrol guys

Both Wendy & Santos would be bilingual but the rest of the people on this list should probably be more profient in English than Spanish (maybe not Derecho).

PACQUITA Laughed about Maria at the fence during a lightening storm. Those of us who live in parts of the country with frequent violent thunder and lightening storms have the sense to get our behinds indoors ASAP - then again Maria is a sap hence standing and doing a Gene Kelly impersonation singing in the rain.

All novelas seem to have a theme that repeats itself several times in the course of the story. This one is obviously fathers who abandon their children in this case sons. Concho abandoned /ignored Susantio, Don Nando deserted Fernando, who know who left Jalisquito on the street. It is interesting that Jalisquito now feels he was abandoned not by blood but by Fernando who in turn still resents his father for abandoning him. We know that Fernando didn't desert or lie to the little guy — it is the system and my feeling is that Don Nando had his accident before he could return to his family.

I have the feeling that Don Nando will not live till the end of QBA. He seemed stricken with the realization that he might be the kind of father he detests. Santos seemed to turn on him for leaving Fernando but I suspect in the long run Santos will be able to tell Fernando what really happened to his father.

Another black mark goes to the writers for having the prosecutor confront Santos. That NEVER happens, trust me on that one my dad was a prosecutor. If the DA wanted to swing a plea deal with Santos he would do it with a meeting with his lawyer and obviously this guy just wants to notch another conviction on his belt. Looks like this will be a slam dunk for him much like what would happen in Mexico.

I do hope that Maria has the sense not to overreact to OJ, to take his order and then run her fanny out the back door. That rotten prison guard certainly does seem to be all over the place all the time. It looked in the previews that in addition to getting a phone number — huh - which led OJ to Maria, he also seems to have taken some paper out of the case binder?

Twelve episodes to go body count at 7 so surely there must be mayhem to come.

Poor Elvirus and Ruben. They are planning to steal the bar from the Sanchez/Mendoza's and unbeknownst to them it is being sold out from under them. That makes me laugh as well as the idea of Ruben's thugs going to clear out the vicindad and everyone is gone — held captive at the hospital.

Elvirus is a lying thief, but she hasn't killed anyone so she'll probably go to jail.

Both Ruben & OJ have killed people. OJ killed 3 people, is threatening the life of at least 4 more people and desires to kill a baby. He shall soon be joining Bruno in hell.

Ruben killed Fabnot and the police were looking for him (are they still looking for him?) so he'll probably go to jail.

Concho keeps practicing his Fred G. Sanford routine so he might be saying bye-bye real soon.

I don't know if anyone can top Fernando Escandon though. I think ol' Fer killed about 13 people in Fuego en la Sangre. LOL

Anon207 Guerra (Antonia) in La Patrona was convicted of killing 13 and that did not include the two miscarriages she caused one by having a thug kick her victim repeated in the stomach and one by giving the girl an abortion causing herb. I should point out the one of those babies would have been her grandchild, the other her great grandchild. She killed two husbands plus her son and stepdaughter. She is truly hard to top.

I want a fight to the death between Guerra, Laura Zapata and Catherine Sin-and-Choke-you. Imagine that.

My money would be on Guerra. She was so cold and analytical as she went about killing everyone who got in her way. And right to the end she had not one lick of remorse.

My money is on Zapata in her Zacatillo mode. She is just a complete psycho then and comes as close as possible to killing Doris from CI. She isn't remorseful either and is lovers with her nephew(?)in that one. What a doozy. Plus she impersonates a nun and threatens to kill a little orphan! She also thinks she had killed Elias from PQEAM but fails LOL. You'd have to witness her acid tongue to believe it though.

There's been a lot of discussion about the crazy idea that Santos would be spending 30 years or life in prison for money laundering. To show how stupid that is I just read that the former congressman Tom DeLay's sentence for money laundering has been overturned. De Lay was originally sentenced to three years. Lets' see what happens to poor Santos when he finally goes to trial.

Oh yeah and yesterday I began counting the number of time three annoying comments were made. Santos said mi bonita 9 times while poor old Amelia only got off mi nina's once. LOL

Anon207, there is a recap on FELS that lists Fernando's body count. I think it was closer to 20. I didn't keep track during the series, but that sounds likely.

Catalina of Cuna de Lobos might have the record, but someone else will have to confirm that. I have the cut-down DVD (which I have yet to watch) but never saw the entire series.

Killing a full-term fetus or a live infant has to be the lowest of the low. When Pigorio of El Talisman kicked Mariana during what must have been her seventh or eighth month I knew he would end up in hell. That was more shocking to me than the perverse murder of Ruth in FELS.

Back to QBA:

The failure of these writers to show English being spoken in the US really annoys me. Is this a political statement on their part?

URBAN

I was thinking the same thing. There seems to be a very subtle anti American tone at times. Fernando damming his father looking for the American dream, the guy screaming gringo at the BP and even Santos making a comment about Americanos. If a character is supposed to speak English, hire an actor who can speak decent fairly unaccented English and don't just shove somebody who speaks bad English. One of the first thing a really good actor learns is to research accents. If they wanted to they could have let the actor speak Spanish and use English subtitles which would let us know the character was speaking English. The approach they took looks shoddy.

Maybe it is striking back at American shows which tend to always show Mexicans as gardeners, maids or gangbangers all with horrible English language accents.

In any event the one thing I feared last night was when our illegal lawyer is job hunting and that guy is lingering outside the store all I could think is that if this was earlier in the show she might have been nabbed and thrown into Ruben/OJ's white slave biz.

Loved Mancia telling off Susanito and telling him he didn't deserve a woman like Irasema - talk about a 100 degree turn!

In the flashback Santos had of Maria and JA discussing Fernando and his love for his guitar, she is wearing the exact same outfit she had on while job hunting that day in real time. Her hair was the same also. LOL

I wonder if they filmed all the scenes that were missed when JS had that eye patch AFTER he stopped using it and then inserted all those scenes as flashbacks?

Nothing subtle about it when you factor in that virtually all gringo characters short of genius doctors and corporate CEOS can't pronounce Spanish at all.

I personally have no idea what percentage of the gringo demographic has no ear for foreign language sounds, but as a gringo who speaks fluent Televisa I am offended at this stereotype.
