PEAM #153- 10/10/13- Money Doesn't Buy You Class; The Transformation of Rogelio

Happy Chilly Thursday!!  Fall is in the air!!!

We start off with Marta, La Loca writing a letter to Marcia, La Estupida.

Dear Marcia, oops, Marta- hahaha,

I’ve had some problems at work but don’t worry very soon we will embrace each other.  Don’t despair, little sister because, I will never, no never abandon you.

I love you,
Marcia
Chatita is remembering scenes with Marta and her fall.  She awakes and doesn’t remember where she is.  She calls out for her husband.  She had a nightmare, she tells the nurse.  Hmm, her dream wasn’t a nightmare it was real.  What year is it?? 2013. Rest!!!
Susana visits Panfilo to see how Chatita is??

Rogelio shows his geography picture to Valentina and it looks terrible.  When he finishes the drawing yet again, he is to put it in her book bag because she is going to bed.  Val asks Rogelio to put her to bed and tell her good night. She asks him if he knows the story about the Queen and the The Helper.  Is it the story about him being the Grumpy Prince?? Yep, that’s it Rogelio.
The report from New York was excellent, thanks to Rogelio.  Jesus shares that they told him the answers thanks to technology, they used a microphone.  Alma can’t believe that Jesus would do that for Rogelio.
Jesus shares with Alma, that he has a lot on his plate, he can’t help his mother Chatita and that there is a truce between Rogelio and Valentina.  Rogelio asks if Moronica always treats her badly, no, another time it was worse.  Rogelio starts to say, that we about our parents, when we are kids and then we grow up and we realize, uh never mind. She asks Rogelio to her a story.  He asks her if her mother ells her stories, nope my father Jesus does.  Of course, el secretario does.  Rogelio tries to tell a story about the Grumpy Prince. The Grumpy Prince shouted all day long, the end.   Valentina asks him if he has a girlfriend and he was in love with a maid, a maid that was casual, pretty and funny and he loved she very much.  Valentina fell asleep and Rogelio told he not to suffer as he suffered.  Rogelio gets into bed and Moronica starts- we are not important to you.  Moronica starts whining about how she is expecting his baby and shows him the bottle of “sleeping pills”.  If we kill ourselves it won’t matter to you and proceeds to take the “pills’.  Rogelio carries Moronica into the bathroom to make her vomit up the “pills”.

Paty tells Jesus and Alma about the mamba song and she has a recording.  She heads off to bed and tells Jesus that she is sorry about Chatita.  Jesus and Alma think that Rogelio is changing.

Ricardo, Julio and Aida are at the expensive restaurant where they played the joke on Jesus at the beginning of the novela and stuck Jesus with the bill. The maître 'd remembers them and makes sure that they can pay.  They are allowed to enter, once Ricardo stuff a large tip in the maitre’d’s pocket.  Ricardo orders 3 bottles of the most expensive champagne at  $7500; it’s chump change to him.  Ricardo is using his "outside voice" and the waiter asks him to lower it.

Fernando is bidding electronic Fernandito good-bye.  Xochy tells Ferny that they will be marvelous parents.  Xochy is worried that her mother was not a good role model for her and they proceed to make their own Fernandito.

Jesus goes to visit Valentina and she tells him that Rogelio saved her from an undeserved spanking.  He held her mother’s hand and then he took her to school and he helped her with her homework.  Jesus is in shock.  Rogelio is changing.

Jesus and Panfilo can’t sleep.  Rogelio is at the hospital and he wants to speak to Jesus.  Panfilo goes to get the doctor.  Jesus thanks Rogelio for what he is doing for Valentina.  Whatever!!  Rogelio tells Jesus that Moronica tried to commit suicide.
Moronica has a good laugh with Cinthia over Rogelio’s reaction to her supposed suicide attempt.  He made her vomit and Rogelio is very worried about her.  Rogelio asks Jesus, for advice.

We see Ricardo car shopping. He wants the most expensive car.

Rogelio wishes Jesus well and shakes Jesus’ hand.  Chatita can be discharged and her memory will return if they help her with stories and pictures.  Chatita thinks that 20 years have been erased from her mind.
Chatita still doesn’t remember either Jesus, her son or Panfilo, her boyfriend.  She tells them about her nightmare, that Marta pushed her down the stairs.  Marta tired to kidnap Valentina, his daughter.  Chatita still thinks that her husband Chato is still alive.  They tell her that her husband died 20 years ago. They both love her and will support her and remain by her side.
Chatita is at home and Chatita still doesn’t remember Jesus, her neighbor.  She sees a picture of her husband, Chato.  She knows that Jesus is a good person and then her head starts to hurt badly.  Chatita cries out in pain.  Is her memory coming back?  Chatita is in Valentina’s room and she admires the colors.  Jesus shows Chatita, a picture of Valentina and she hears Val’s voice.  Her memory is slowly returning.  Marisela shares a cup of coffee with Panfilo and Chatita is trying to remember who she is.  There is a knock at the door.  Marisela thinks that it’s Ricardo, her boyfriend.  Chatita asks Panfilo if they have slept together??  Uh no!!

Rogelio is still trying to woo Paty.  The score is 1- yes and 2- no.  Rogelio is holding his breathe.  Ricardo arrives to work and let’s the guards know that he has a new car.  Rogelio is still holding his breathe and faints.  Paty gives him mouth to mouth and it’s a miracle he’s alive.  Did he pass the test??  The score is now tied.  Rogelio tells Paty that he is going to put Valentina to sleep and he will be back around 9 for Paty.  Paty can’t believe that Rogelio is sending time with Valentina.

Ricardo has a surprise for Marisela.  He will pass by for her around 9.  Now, he needs to buy new clothes and yes, Pablo- teeth whitening.  Gil and Ivonne are planning a vacation and Ricardo recommends the beaches of Tahiti and brags about his expensive new car.  Ricardo shows Marisela an expensive convertible that for some reason what she said was bleeped out.  Ricardo is eating at an expensive restaurant and orders wine from 1961.  This idiot will spend the inheritance in a week.  Marisela tells Ricardo to watch his spending because this is not his style.  Ricardo doesn’t want to listen.  Marisela asks Ricardo what happened to The Light Congregation?? He gave the title to some underling. The universe is on his side, so he must spend, spend, spend.

Marta la Loca is talking to Alma about Chatita and the loss of her memory.  It may be years before she regains her memory.  Sooner or later her memory will return.  La Loca is a little worried.  Marcia is reading a letter from Marta.  The nurse tells Marcia that she spoke to Marta on the phone and she is straightening out some problems with her job/foundation.

Alma convinces Jesus to go and see Chatita.  Rogelio is at the door to see Jesus.  Que, que, what???? Jesus and Rogelio clear the air about the little tricks between Rogelio and Valentina.  Jesus is worried about Moronica trying to commit suicide with pills.  Jesus thinks that Rogelio won’t testify in his favor for the custody battle.  They are waiting for the judge’s decision and Rogelio wants the pregnant Moronica out of his house but he can’t throw them out in the street because of Valentina.  Alma doesn’t trust Rogelio and warns Jesus to be careful.

Moronica is on the phone telling Cinthia that she is pretending to take sleeping pills but they are really vitamins, she is fine.  Valentina overhears the conversation.

Rogelio tells Valentina that he will let her and her mother stay at his house.  Valentina wants to live with Jesus.
Valentina tells Rogelio that her mother is really sick; she is taking vitamins instead of sleeping pills.

Coming attractions:
Jesus and Alma’s baby is going to be born but of course with some drama involved.  It looks like Marta, La Loca has stuck Alma with something. Must see TV!!!!!

Hello,
Not a bad episode tonight, it was tolerable. We really can see Rogelio's transformation but to me he is still the hombre grunon, but we are beginning to unravel the layers.
The interaction between Rogelio is touching although he seems a little uncomfortable around her. She seems more like the adult.

So, the more Alma rubs her tummy the more it grows?
Because today she didn't have anything (I saw her rubbing her flat abs all the time she was speaking with Martha) and in tomorrow's previews she looks like she ate the couch cushion. How many months have elapsed between today and tomorrow?
When did she find out she was pregnant? Like to months ago, right?
Is it november already?

Thanks, TJ. Your recap was great.

So Rogelio is going to help Jésus get custody of Valentina --not for Jésus' sake of course- but for Val. He is so funny ever time he begins to appreciate Jésus he has to remind himself that he is supposed to hate him. Rogelio is so cute with Val and with Paty. It will take a while to make up for all of his past errors but he is becoming more & more likable.

I hate having crazy Marta wandering around. If she is still around to try to harm Alma when she is in the hospital for the delivery then it means that she will be on the loose for months -- because, as Pablo pointed out, in tonight's episode Alma has no belly & tomorrow she's supposed to go into labor. There must be a big leap in time.

Ricardo's nasty transformation is certainly giving Marsela a look into her old materialistic self. Mayb he will blow all the money and rediscover "la Luz."

I hope we don't have to spend too much time with Chatita's amnesia. It's boring.

TJ:

Thanks for this most marvelous recap! I love the little details you always put in them : )

Guera:

I so agree with you about Marta. I too don't want her running around for months causing chaos. I really feel sorry for Marcia and want her out of that manicomo and Marta right back in there!

I too think we will be having a leap in time. Probably like six months or so. That's by looking at Alma's bebe bump. She was flat tonight and tomorrow she looks ready to pop!

I am so glad Rog is changing. I like that he is going to Chucho every time something happens with Val and Moronica. I really hope Rog steps up to the plate and testifies for Chucho and Val goes to live with Chucho and Alma and I hope once Moronica's bebe is born Rog gets custody. I really like the fact that Rog is actually thinking about someone else instead of himself, but he still needs to atone for his crimes.

Poor Chatita, I really hope she remembers more. I do like how she finally recognized Val and her voice and called Chucho bombon. I think her memory will come back slowly but surely. Let's hope Marta isn't with her. I want Marta's anvil to land on her like yesterday!

I too think Rico Suave will run thru all his money like in a week too! He is wastefully spending it and he is no longer in the light so to speak.

Guera: you are so right about Rico Suave being like Mari used to be, and I really like the fact that Mari is trying to give him good advice. He won't listen though. He is too much in the shade so to speak to see the light of reason : )

How long will it take before someone even entertains the possibility that Marcia is Marta? Things are not adding up inside or outside the hospital. They need to use their brains.

Rogelio's character was the highlight again for me. His interactions with Paty and Valentina were great. I like that he has become another protector of Valentina.

It was a pretty good episode.

Tablet Jefa, thanks for the great recap.

Wonderful TJ! Thanks for the recap.

I actually wanted to watch last night because I'm enjoying this Rog transformation. His interactions with Val are endearing, and I like his newfound sincerity in talking to Chalma. Just has to earn their trust. And I agree- there will come a time when he's going to have to pay for his old crimes. But I'm rooting for him.

Love that Val squealed on her mother. yeah, that relationship is tanking fast. Wonder if Cinthia is going to start thinking twice about her involvement in these schemes.

Really don't like this whole Richie Ricardo plot. You would think after chastising Mari for her past attitude, he would not want to start acting the exact same way...if not worse. If I was her, I would tell him to take a hike and get his act together before they have a chance. And do something good with the money idiot.

Ok, so fast forward. I will crack up if we have plot lines hanging for a full six months just so we can get the baby born. In that span, we should have everyone now trusting Rog, maybe he and Pati fully together without Virus' knowledge, the custody battle solved, Virus' whole fake vitamin plot a thing of the past and Chatita with memory or without but back to general health. Maybe Ricardo dirt poor and gone thru money and Cardy's issues solved ( what happened there anyway?)

But betcha we pick on some of these right where we left them...and of course Marta is still on the loose and her sister hasn't told anyone they switched yet. Yeah--that would happen...

Not even bothering with the beanie...but I will have a few tall decanters of wine sitting at my patio table to numb the senses if anyone cares to join.

Thanks for the recap!

Why is it that these pregnancies on TN's seem to grow huge overnight? Can't they at least do a day by day, slightly bigger bump? Going from flat to huge overnight is a demon baby, like in Twilight. (Yes I read the books and saw the movies. Sue me! :)

Rog and Val still the best thing going. I wait for their scenes bec they both do such an excellent job.

Thanks so much TJ. I always check the recaps first before considering whether or not I'll watch the episode. You've alerted me to some cute Rogelio/Valentina and Rogelio/Pati scenes so I'm on board. But will certainly fast forward through Chatita's memory problems and Ricardo's crazy spending.

Happy to know the birth is imminent. Those tummy rubbing scenes in bed were also becoming quite tedious.

Thanks for pre-digesting this one and giving us the highlights. Knowledge is power! (And loved the title: Money Doesn't Buy You Class)

Awesome, TJ. I LOLed at "Ricardo is using his outdoor voice."

I don't know exactly how this storyline is going to turn out, but it's pretty clear that Ricardo was wrong when he said money wouldn't change him! He must be VERY bad at math if he thinks he can continue to spend, spend, spend but not earn, earn, earn.

I liked his "new" car (classic Karmann Ghia), though.

Rogelio can't color within the lines. Another thing we have in common! One thing we DON'T have in common is that I would have made Vero go to the hospital, even if I suspected she was faking. Whether a person is faking or truly suicidal, either way, they need professional help.

I don't know if the show is getting funny all of a sudden, or if I'm just in a better mood - but I am finding a lot more to laugh at lately, even in between boring scenes of Alma rubbing her belly and Chucho wrestling with Chatita's recalcitrant memory.

If we jump ahead six months and Mad Marta is still on the loose (and wearing the same hair accessories), does that mean Marcia is still in the manicomio? In six months, she hasn't told the staff who she really is? Or they've already dismissed her claims out of hand without lifting a finger to double-check that, for example, Marcia is still working with her foundation?

Never mind; I'm sure all of these questions will be answered unsatisfactorily tonight! And, hey, maybe what we saw last night was just somebody's nightmare.

TJ: Didn't get a chance to watch the ep yet. Loved the recap.

Julia: re your comment from yesterday. It wouldn’t take a second thought for Vero to fake a pregnancy if she miscarried. I hope they don’t go that route, though.

Can’t wait to see the Rog/Vale scenes. Actually, it looks like a good Rog ep.

Whoever commented before about Ricardo blowing through his money was right.

The score is 2 to 1. I missed one of the noes. No for the watch. What was the other no for?

I think Marcia should confess who she is. To prove it, she can ask the doc to stop giving her the meds. She can tell him, if she’s Marta and he stops the meds, she’ll go mental. If she’s telling the truth and is Marcia, then she’ll be rational.

Now on to reading what you all thought of the ep.

Nanette

The other ''no'' was for roses, they are so conventional (tell that to Jesús, who has a gold card in the flower shop).

OK. So in juárever time Marcia has been pretending she is the crazy one, officially, they hadn't run any tests to see how is Martha improving?
I am sure when they test Marcia they will find out is not Martha... It's true, my head is hurting already!

Thanks Pablo.

Maybe the previews of Alma's big belly is for a future ep. Either way, from the sounds of it, it's bigger than the sudden belly pop I've heard pregnant women experience.

If my memory still works, I think I remember MariCrazy from CI giving birth overnight after a full flat belly pregnancy... maybe that's easy than keep adding filling stuff to the pillow a little every day.
I thought the ''special effects'' department had different sizes of ''bellies'' to change gradually according with the time.
Maybe I was dreaming...

They do, Pablo. A series of pillow-bellies ranging from the gentle swell to the comically huge Mt. Babymore. But I've seen a few TNs where the heroine never showed so much as a bump. I don't think Sobfia in FELS did, for example.

Nanette:

You are so right about Marcia and the testing to see if she is in fact, Marcia. The Doc could tell there was something going on with "Marta" but didn't check further. She is barely rational right now, due to all those meds. The nurse too, should know something isn't right. When Marta was in the manicomo she was almost her sane self. Marcia is not like that at all. I can't understand why the Doc and the nurse haven't figured this out already.

Thanks, TJ! Great recap.

Oy, could Richie Rico be any more gauche? Does a sudden influx of money take away a guy's ability to tell that his friends are completely mortified by his behavior and embarrassed to be seen with him? He's even worse than Maricela was. Good point that she can now see her old behavior from the other side, and isn't liking what she's seeing. She has matured quite a lot.

Fun thing about being a manicomio patient is that people tend not to believe your claims. Even if Marcia is telling the doctor and nurse about the switch, they'd probably think she's lying and just trying to get out. Because what twin sister would be IDIOTIC enough to trade places with someone who is dangerous and NEEDS to be in the asylum? Although they should have at least noticed that she is not doing well at all on those meds.

Val and Rog are the cutest.

I think some of these actresses must have it written into their contracts that they don't have to look pregnant for more than an episode or two.

Julia: That's why I commented Marcia tell the doc and be taken off the meds. What do they have to lose? She's in a cell and can be carefully monitored, so as not to hurt herself--if that's what they'd fear. It does seem peculiar that they haven't noticed that she's not doing well on these meds. Of course, they would just try her on some other meds, thinking that the one's she's on now no longer work.

You'd think they would also have dental records, fingerprints, handwriting samples, etc. to compare, too.

I have a theory.
Since Marcia is crazy in a lesser degree, they probably think the meds are in fact working, making Martha feel better and behave less crazy.

When Marcia finally finds out that Martha is never coming back to see her because that will be the ticket to switch again and she needs more time out to finish what she started, she can confess, but that will be too late.

If sane people has gone crazy inside those fluffy walls, imagine Marcia, who is also crazy, only not as crazy as Martha.

Honestly, Marcia should have figured out by now that Martha's not coming back. That letter made it pretty clear.

The fact that Marcia is still worried that Marta "might do something" while she's off her meds proves that Marcia is, in fact, quite delusional. Not just naive. When your twin sister writes you a letter and signs it with YOUR name, that's a big fat clue that "something" is already underway.

I didn't see that episode, but Marcia shouldn't have traded places with the crazy Martha.
No matter what excuse Martha had or what stupid idea Marcia had to allow that to happen, BUT, if Martha was institutionalized was because she was not right. Why someone in her ''right'' mind switch places with that person and allow her to get outside, where she supposed not to be until she is ''cured''?
This, along with the twins plot, is just plain stupid and absurd.

OT: my boyfriend (Alejandro Ruiz-MEPS, AB) is in a new TN: Por siempre mi amor. Does anyone know anything about it?

"This, along with the twins plot, is just plain stupid and absurd"

Nope--not one of Moctavio and crew's finest piece of script work. But I'm betting this gets worse before it gets better. I say we withhold their banana bonus.

Daisynjay

The sad thing is that Marcia had to talk Martha into it. Martha really felt bad about kidnapping Valentina, and Marcia kept saying "but that wasn't you, it was your illness." Well, bad news, Marcia! Martha can't leave her illness behind any more than she can outrun her own shadow.

I know I said yesterday that this show isn't as incoherent as a Salvador Mejia production, but now I'm reconsidering.

TJ thanks for your recap. I'm not sure about Rog's transformation but his interactions w/Val continue to be fun.

Thank you to all!
Nanette- good point about the medical exams and why isn't blood drawn at some point due to the constant consumption of medication. The doctor didn't catch it when Marcia called him incorrectly, he just corrected her and proceeded.
Yes, Pablo- this was a fast, streamline pregnancy. I would like to order one of those.
Karen- I'm not a Rogelio fan but I could see that he was feeling some sort of way when he was telling Valentina her bedtime story. He started to tell her about the hurt in his own childhood and then suddenly stopped. He is becoming less self centered.

They have plenty of time to give Rog a gradual, and more realistic redemption. Hope they don't rush it.

TJ, thank you for a wonderfully detailed, interesting and highly amusing recap. Your title is terrific; now that I think of it this is one of the themes of the telenovela. Good job.

Re: Por siempre mi amor. Just read it followed CI in Mexico and started on Monday, there. That sounds familiar. I think someone mentioned it before.

I read is YET ANOTHER remake, of MY SECOND MOTHER... Like anybody need two of them!! LOL!

Are there ever any original stories for TNs anymore?

Before the stoning starts, let me clarify. I am talking about this TN, not mothers, hahaha

Someone told me that MENTIR PARA VIVIR was a María Zarattini ORIGINAL. I hope it is original ''never before made in any format'' and not ''original after we mixed it from here and there and now is original''

@Pablo Villalobos- LOL This very novela has had almost more than one parent in every circumstance. Heck, Vermonica(intentional) even began counting the amount of dads Valentina's had.
