PEAM #160, Oct. 21, 2013 - Oh Say Can You See…the Pie Carts Up That Hill Aimed at Baby Sellers and Baby Thieves

Here is an experiment:

Aida tells Jesica who is down stairs waiting for her.  She says oh no he will kill him (Cardy I presume) just then Cardy takes a flying lesson Jesús assumes another rescue role that of working wonders of conciliation between madman Bernabe and red-faced Cardy.  The girls ooh and aah and Jesica takes a flower vase in hand to face the musinc. Bernabe swings her around but lets her back to admire her physique as we all always do.

Xochi and Fernando take the new car for a spin.  Apparently she has never driven before so this won't go well as she ruins some poor slubs knees who has the good judgement to run for his life. Xochi is more worried about damage to the new MiniCooper than to the involuntary manslaughter charges that might await her future driving attempts.

Jesica assures Cardy that she will handle Bernabe. Then she assures Bernabe that even though she is totally in lurve with Cardy he is so wonderful to her.  They hug and dance in the coffee room moving the dance out into the open office.  Bernabe waxes between ecstatic dancer and wild man ready to defend his old girlfriend if Cardy ever does anything bad to her.

Valentina is happy to announce that her Papa Jesús has bought her a piano but Jesús calls it a teclado (key board) cool.  Let's hope it has a muffler on the sound for sister Luisa's sake. Alma and Jesús talk about how delighted Rogelio is to be a padre.  Already at home the miracle prime cries while Rogelio calls Pato to update her. Killeronica descends the stairway to ruin the happy talk that Rogelio and Domocilia are having about the cute baby.  She begins her threatening and sniping which escalates while she sweeps off to the kitchen muttering about how special and hygienic the formula must be.  Let it be noted that whoever commented about men being better with babies than any of the women really nailed it for Veronica's character.

Maricela begs a cake recipe from Chatita for a birthday surprise for Ricardo. Chatita and all of us are surprised at this chef tendency coming out on the former snot-queen Maricela.

Icky Kiko nephew of Cardy has taken over Valentina's new keyboard.  Kicko does end being charmed by Valentina's arrival and winks and nods as he teaches her how to play scales.  They are just too young for this to be even amusing but compared with the many other relationship disasters, I guess we have to take what non-evil we can squeeze out of the situation.  Jesús and Alma carry on hohumness in the bedroom.  Maybe Jesús is right to worry about Kiko and Valentina but then why is he leaving them alone while he whines about it in the bedroom.

x comes in crying about her brother to be comforted by Chatita.  Marisela smiles looking on. Later the three make happy in the kitchen throwing cake batter and frosting around to make a beautiful cake for the undeserving Ricardo.

Alma finally gets around to telling Jesús about the loca way Marcia acted with being possessive about Luisita earlier.  Jesús is slow but seems to be lighting up inside that this may spell out danger.  Marcia might be the new loca one.

Rogelio and Veronica argue about her complete lack of interest in the her baby.  Rogelio may have a baby all to himself soon if Killeronica doesn't off them both.

Alma puts her questions together in her head and feels that the baby should never be alone with Marcia since she is muttering things about Ximena.  She assures Jesús that both she and Chatita have feminine intuition that is superior to any a man has.  Jesús stupidly tries to stand up for superior logic but none of us is buying it. Better shut up, silly man.

Cardy shows up to see Kiko and Valentina and hoping the budding romance/friendship is okay with Jesús….

Rogelio is photographed by the tender hearted Domitilia as he holds his bitty Fernandito as they both enjoy the tenderness between father and son.  Killeronica comes back down ordering Domitilia to take baby away from her sight. Then she advances the latest madness, she will sell the baby to Rogelio.  Her excuse is that she is young and used to living at a high level therefore needs a big bank balance to find happiness.  Rogelio shares our distress and surprise at this latest show of hatefulness that Killeronica swims in apparently all the time now.

Now a deal is struck immediately that by tomorrow Rogelio will put millions of pesos in her bank account but she will sign any paper he wants giving him complete custody and she will move out immediately.

Marisela delivers the cake to Ricardo who can't even look up from his computer gambling to say thanks. Smoking and greasy haired, the fallen Ricardo is more degenerate by the moment. The new girlfriend is friendlier but knows the gift won't be noticed by Ricardo and she didn't even know it was his birthday. Marisela says it is her last act of friendship towards him, she sadly leaves.

Back at Casa Garcia, Julio calls from Avon begging Jesús's help.  Guess he will have to break his happy moment with the baby and Alma to save Avon from yet another disaster.

Back to the stupid driving of Xochi (I am a superb driver since I was about 13 so I particularly hate HATE this stupid prejudice about women) that even though so intelligent she is a bumbling mess behind the wheel.

Veronica signs the papers selling her son to Rogelio and still she makes threats of jail to him if he goes back on his word on the money.  She won't tell him exactly when she is leaving.  Shortly later, Veronica brings her baggage downstairs berating Domitilia for not helping her.  Happily the gardener hastens Killeronica on her way.

Chatita and Alma compare notes on how whacky Marcia is and how she was making Alma's skin crawl with her creepiness toward the baby and they compare that with Chatita's feelings that maybe Marcia has evil intentions and could somehow be behind the fall down the stairs. Chatita can't remember the part just before the fall, but remembers hearing her voice right before the fall.

Creepier and creepier, Veronica the Killer stabs at pictures of all her sworn enemies that she vows to get vengeance on. Next on the list is not Pato again but Alma and she vows to get HER daughter back at the same time.

If this comedy gets any happier I think I will just sit down and cry into my keyboard.

Xochi is whining and crying more than before she was armed with a killing car.  She is scared that Fernando's connection to the illicit activities and she has no idea how they are going to pay the vendors.  Jesús cajoles her into solving the problem of communicating with the vendors.

Patricia show up and is smitten with the Fernandito.  She is shocked when Rogelio tells her that Vero practically sold him his son.  Practically?? Domitilio is pleased that they are to be married soon.  Lots of baby scenes to buffer the sociopathic scenes.  Rogelio invites Patricia to move in with him and the baby even now before they are married.

Now another comedic revelation.  In front of Jesús and Alma's door Veronica shows up just as Marcia is trying to get in.  She assures Vero that she and Jesús are great friends in answer to the traditional Que Haces Aquí questions. A rush to commit evil brings out the confession from Marcia that she is indeed Marta as she chokes Veronica.

Chatita keeps replaying the fall and trying to remember the moments before she slipped, did someone push her she questions?ß

Avances: Veronica threatens Alma and seems to have hired assassins again this time two of them to threaten Alma. And before you can say Watch Out There, Marta is looking down the snout of a hand gun but who is slipping off the safety????

Cheryl, wow that was so fast and well done! Thanks!

My only comment. Paty arrives at Rogelio's place having difficulty walking with her stab wound still healing but then he hands her a baby to hold as she is standing there? Even if she were sitting, I think not.

Cheryl:

Thanks so much for this marvelous and quick recap. I am beginning to think this TN isn't a comedy at all. It's more of a drama with a bit of comedy thrown in.

I wish Alma, Chatita and Chucho would put their head together and figure out that Marta is out there and Marcia is in the manicomio. They all know about Marta and Marcia being twins. You'd think they would have figured it out by now, especially Alma and Chucho.

The reason Rai came crying to Chatita was her brother is moving and she doesn't want to go with him, she wants to stay with Chatita. Chatita was okay with that.

Rico is an idiot. He needs to go. I am surprised that Vicky and Mari were so civil to each other. Poor Mari. Rico is a jackass times 10.

Julio told Chucho that Rico, messed up and didn't pay the vendors. After he got his inheritance he kind of gaffed off his work.

I loved how Rog is bonding with little Ferny and I noticed every time little Ferny would cry it was because he heard Killeronica near him. As soon as she left he calmed down. I think Rog and Pato will make wonderful parents.

Killeronica needed that anvil yesterday. To sell her bebe for millions, she has no soul! I think she only wants Valentina because Chucho has her. Otherwise she could care less. Val is the only thing that connects her to Chucho, her supposed eternal love....... She needs that pie card, plus ten anvils. She is the worst person evah!

Loved your hummingbird picture too. How beautiful and loved your title! Thanks so much Cheryl.

Oh, I did see the promo for Robo this evening and it just may be replacing PEAM. Nothing else is in Ultimas Semanas. Maybe the new Camil novella will replace LT, ya never know ; )

Thanks, Cheryl. Loved the hummingbird photo and motto.

This was a funny and accurate description: Jesús and Alma carry on hohumness in the bedroom.

Thanks back for the quick comments. Thanks Jarifa. Yes Pati has not only recovered physically like magic but where did she gain that maternal confidence with one glance at a cute baby?

Madelaine I left you a very late but sincere thank you on your Friday recap.

Paloma, I got the colibri myth from a Facebook posting. Have you ever heard it before? I am uncertain who to credit as author if it is other than anonymous. Maybe Pablo knows too?

Thank you Cheryl for recapping a rather silly episode, I usually get them, glad to see that they are spreading the wealth.
Your picture is always a welcomed pleasure.
You recap was far more entertaining than this episode. Bernabe, what was the purpose of his presence? Quico and Val, ridiculous. She is 7, for goodness sake. Where are her Barbie dolls?
Xochy whining and driving, enough of Xochy already. She is extremely annoying and sets the notion of women drivers back in time. Geez!
Killeronica did her son justice by selling him. Another cute kid with such an ugly mother, Ugh! And then her death list, this may have been more interesting a few months ago, but with only a couple of weeks left, what's the point?
I'm glad that Alma finally told Jesus about Marta/ Marcia, that storyline needs to end sooner rather than later.Yes, Madelaine, I agree that they finally put their heads together and solve this debacle. The fight outside of Alma's door between the two crazies was just a tad bit funny but in essence pitiful.

Thanks so much Cheryl. This was a stellar recap. I watched off and on (you can guess the parts I just had to "off"). I so agree with you on the route this is taking...such a funny comedy. HAHA...NOT!

I could go on about the stupidity of most of the plots, the awefulness of pushing the Val/Kiko "romance" the way they are showing it, and everything Virus (selling your child????) I enjoy those brief Rog/baby Ferny moments and am in toleration mode on the rest.

I have this sick feeling this gets worse and more dramatic before we hit the end. Which of course, will most likely be a mind-numbing attempt to suddenly make everyone good, sorry and happy ever after. I can just see the "end of the fairy tale" cartoons now.

Wonder what does come next too?

Daisynjay

Thanks, Cheryl. "Now another comedic revelation." Yes, that just about sums it up! I share your bemusement over the Xochi driving scenes. Especially her attitude towards the guy she hit. "But is the car okay?" Really? Xochi was never like that before.

And utter confusion as to why we should care about Bernabe now.

The Valentina + Quico storyline is not only annoying and yucky, but also boring. And stupid. And a total waste of time.

I was amazed that Vero signed the baby contract without reading it. I wonder if Cantu put any interesting clauses in there.

At least the episode ended on a happy note, with Vero and Marta at each others' throats. I wonder if it's possible for two people to strangle one another to death simultaneously? I wouldn't think so, but I'd be willing to suspend disbelief for the sake of "comedy."

Arrrgh...another bizarre, icky, inappropriate episode, which you saved with your wry wit and that wonderful hummingbird picture. I just don't have the patience for this right now. But in complete agreement with your:

"Jesús and Alma carry on hohumness in the bedroom."

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think Fernando Colunga could be ho-hum. Amor Real, Alborada, Pasión. And somehow this director has transformed him into a namby-pamby eunuch. I'm beginning to think Alma conceived that child through artificial insemination.

But the recap had plenty of punch! Thanks Cheryl. (although I must admit, unlike you, I have been a POOR DRIVER ever since the age of 16. Never hit any people but I've sure put a lot of dents and scrapes into my old '94.)

JudyB.....tell us how you really feel about FC in this TN.

Good recap Cheryl....I would have like to have had more Ben Vereen and Jessica....I thought she was going start "twerking" .....I would prefer seeing that over moronica planing and plotting baby sales and assassinations

Thanks, Cheryl! You did a great job with a lot of ho-hum material. (And speaking of ho-hum, maybe Jesus leaves his daughter alone with a tweenage loung lizard because he actually has NO sexual imagination. I don't find that hard to believe.)

Thanks Cheryl. Keeping this short since I'm commenting with my phone.

Re: the previews (why am I always obssessed with the previews?). Killer woman had long straight hair. Vero, or Marcia who was released/escaped from the mental hospital and is out for a little revenge?

Count me in with that completely inappropriate storyline with Vale and Kiko.

Nanette

But Marcia/Marta? Seriously? IDENTICAL TWINS? And no one is the least bit suspicious? HAVEN'T YOU PEOPLE EVER SEEN A TELENOVELA???

Or should that be "from my phone"?

Judy, I've been wondering if Alma and Chucho LITERALLY got their baby from the stork. Or the cabbage patch. Then they conspired with the hospital to pretend that it was a real pregnancy and birth. Normally the doctors wouldn't have agreed to it, but Chucho was just so darned convincing and charming that they had to agree.

Nanette, whether you say "from my phone" or "with my phone" depends on whether or not your phone contributed any thoughts. ;-)

I thought the woman with the gun, in the shadows, looked like Alma. Now, I am absolutely sure that Alma would never shoot anyone even in an emergency, much less in cold blood. But maybe Vero did her hair like Alma's to frame Alma for Marta's murder. Sort of killing two birds with one stone, so to speak.

For the longest time, I really believed that we were going to find out what was wrong with Vero, and who Xochi's father was, and who Mari's mother was, and who was the woman who scammed Sebastian out of all his money. And what was the great slogan idea Elias had for the Avon campaign so many months ago. And how are Yuri and Malvino doing. But now I fear we'll be lucky if we get any closure on anything at all!

Julie: the phone is mute on the subject of PEAM.

My first thought was an Alma frame-up. But then I thought about it and it didn't seem to me to be Alma's wavy hair. However, I only watched it once so I must have just been wishful thinkin'.

Oh, Judy, this is the best summary I've seen on FC in this:

"Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think Fernando Colunga could be ho-hum. And somehow this director has transformed him into a namby-pamby eunuch. I'm beginning to think Alma conceived that child through artificial insemination."

This character has been the worst use of his talents I've ever seen, and those lame kisses he does with Blanca...my screen is NOT steaming up. Poor FC, he may have just signed his death warrant on playing the romantic leading man in the future or he better look for something dramatic again to get back his gutzpah.

(OR He can go take some cues from Sergio G.--his character may be worthless in IC, but he still has that intriguing something...)

Daisynjay

Thanks, Cheryl. I love the title and your sardonic commentary on the "comedy". Also, the line about the hohumness really cracked me up. Great word.

Venomica may be evil, but handing over her baby and walking away is probably the best thing she could ever do for him, so I won't count that against her. I loved Rogue's excitement over the baby. And from Rogue's and Cantu's looks, I'm guessing there was a little something extra in that contract Vero signed without reading.

Will we never hear the end of Xochi's whining and wailing? That was so unprofessional and so unlike her. Although I can understand why she'd be stressed out, if Ferny bought her a car and then IMMEDIATELY pushed her out onto the streets of Monterrey behind the wheel. Whatever happened to studying the driving laws and practicing in an empty parking lot first?

That look Freaky Kiki the Tweenage Lounge Lizard gave Val was super creepy. He looked like a predator congratulating himself that his grooming was going well. Ugh. Why does anyone think this storyline is a good idea? Can't they just be friends and piano buddies without the slime factor?

I can't believe Luisita was conceived naturally, either. Alma and Chucho are so formal and passionless.

Wish they'd drop the child abuse and stupid junior romance and go back to the storylines we were actually interested in: Xochi's dad, Mari's mom, Delia's investigation of the shady businesses, ELÍAS. Plus more dancing.

Thanks for the picture and recap Chery. And apologizes for the comedy you, the other recaps and the rest of us are enduring.

ITA on the comments made about bad plots, oh heck, the whole tn needing to end. It's fascinating to me that this tn or CI are not being edited by Uni but LT is. Are PEAM's rating high here? And why does Uni seem to use its ratings in Mexico for what to do with its tns broadcast here?

Judy - interesting comment about FC. I think most actors at some point in their career make mistakes with roles and unfortunately we are witnessing it with FC & this tn.

Cheryl...I stopped watching this show except for surfing in and out again once in awhile , but I always love your beautiful photos. Thanks for sharing them with us.

Judyb and Daisynjay....This is exactly the reason I abandoned this show. I cannot stand watching Fernando in this role. It is too painful for me. I much prefer seeing him as Don Luis, or Manuel, or Pirate Rick. I hope that he returns to roles as the strong galan. MAKE IT STOP.....This show is just getting worse and worse. Basta.

Thank you Cheryl! Your picture is amazing. I love to watch the hummingbirds in the afternoon. Your recap is so entertaining, especially your deadpan comments, "Now another comedic revelation". Snort!

Great comments too. Although I am a staunch fan of FC I fear I do agree with JudyB. As Novela Maven would say, he really "screwed the pooch" taking this role. I don't blame the actors though, because this telenovela started out wonderfully. I adored it for a long while, but it has derailed (to put it very kindly) as we approach the end. Too many added characters that add nothing, too many old loose ends untied and too many new plots that go nowhere, etc. It feels like they changed writers midstream and the new team didn't bother to do their homework. OK, enough ranting. I still enjoy the parts I enjoy and FF through the rest.

ITA, Julie, on the loose ends -- this seems to be true with so many TNs: you stick it out 'til the end to find out all the answers, and they never appear. In this case it's particularly unforgiveable, because they have THE GIANT ELIAS-SHAPED SPACE TO FILL. Why couldn't they fill it with interesting backstory instead of random cardboard characters they pulled out of their ears?

Blue Lass, that would require original writing, gasp! What a concept.

Amigos- I'm back from Uganda, and it doesn't seem that time has improved this show. Are we in ultimos capitulos yet?

Welcome back, Vivi! We're in ultimos semanas but not ultimos caps. This story is pretty much on its ultimas piernas, though.

It's certainly on my ultimo nervio.

Ugh! Down with the kiddie hand porn - ya basta!!!

That must be a Berrylline hummer. Beautiful! We have its close relative here (the Buff-bellied).

Audrey

I just checked the rating for PEAM from last week and it is *gasp* the highest rated TN right now. I don't understand it at all. Must be FC or BS fans out there. No telling!

Well, the other ones currently playing are CI and Tempestuds, which are also crap. Then there's that other one which might be good; I don't know because I haven't watched any of my recordings yet and probably it's on too late to draw the crowds. Lack of competition does amazing things for the ratings!

Let's just admit what we were all thinking at the same time: people are tuning in to see Quico the wonder boy.

Ha; totally. They're thinking, "Surely this is a setup for a telenovela to take place in three decades, when Kiko will be the slimeball 40 year old lounge lizard villain sliming all over the high school girls." They want the backstory so they can really appreciate his downfall.

I am with all of you about how FC is BORING in this TN, Bianca as well. But it seemed to come on all of a sudden, and their characters also started getting health problems and having to sit out a lot of action. Maybe FC had some work done and now can't move any facial muscles to emote as well. He has less lines than he did 20 years ago!

Also the negro Bernabé was a bit much. He and Yesica don't seem Puerto Rican as much as caracatures.

"It's certainly on my ultimo nervio"

Perfection Blue.

Welcome back Vivi!! Hope you had a wonderful trip. Your new picture is beautiful. Warning, that strange feeling you will have later watching this TN ISN'T jet lag...it's a whole other kind of nauseous feeling. Can't wait to hear you take on the current "plots".

Cheryl, beautiful hummer and quote is fun. Great recap, especially considering what you had to work with.

A question about Xochi and her hormones came to mind, when she was talking to Chucho. She said something about too much estrogen or something. I couldn't follow it all. But I wonder if she might be freaking out because she is undergoing fertility treatments??? It might explain her behavior recently.

Even though there has been some really bad writing lately, I am still enjoying this "comedy". Rogelio is fabulous! Fernando is so redeemed. But it is all the supporting cast. This was my first intro to FC and I'll have to take you all's word for it that he can inflame passion... I do like him a lot better than Quico(ugh) though.

Yes, Xochi is taking fertility drugs. I don't know if that means that she and Fernando both got tested at some point to determine whether this was necessary. I don't remember anything like that!

Yay, glad that you have returned home safely, Vivii
Welcome home, missed your detailed rationale.
