PEAM, Tuesday 10/8/13 (#151): Cloak. Dagger. Banana Peel. Lobster?

New stuff in blue

Rewind: Chucho has given Valentina a cell phone and tells her to call him if she needs anything. He wants to talk to Rogelio; he's not home and Domitila doesn't know when he'll be back. Chucho asks about Vero's behavior. Domi says she's taken to her bed. She promises to keep an eye on Vale and let him know if Vero does anything to Vale. (But Domi doesn't, at least not in this episode.) As Domi prances away, I wonder if there are any podiatrists in Monterrey. Between the way Domitila walks and the way Jessica walks, they're going to need one.

Chucho tells Alma about Zsa Zsa's, I mean Tracy's, long-lost son Hector. He wants to reunite them. Alma offers to look into it. She apparently has no trouble tracking him down (she knows his first name, his mother's name, and it can't be all that hard to find out who his mom married by looking through old newspapers and records online) and he even agrees to meet with her the same day. Unfortunately I don't remember Xochi's "Dad" photo well enough to say if this is the guy and he looks way too young, but he's bitter about his mother. It was her obsession with work that drove his father to abandon them. (Wonder if that's the guy Mari's mom ran away with?) Hector has a wife and three kids of his own. Alma is shocked that these kids have never met their grandmother. Family is the most important thing. "Tell that to my mother," Hector says.

Depressed, Vero whines that Rogelio doesn't love her. Maybe he'll feel differently when she loses the baby! She doesn't care about anything, she says. She wants to stay in bed and sleep forever.

Valentina asks Vero to sign a permission slip or something for school. Vero has a temper tantrum. "I'm tired of you! Can't you see I'm sick?" She raises her hand to strike Valentina. Rogelio stops her. Vero is offended that he would side with his "archenemy" against her. Rogelio explains that little pranks are one thing, but hitting your daughter? Never! "As long as you live here, you won't touch a hair on her head," he tells Vero. I will never call him Rogue again!

Domitila sees Valentina crying. Vale says Mommy was going to hit her. She thanks Rogelio and even gives him a hug. He seems surprised to realize that he sort of likes this paternal feeling. They apologize to one another for all the pranks and agree that they were fun. But now she's missed the bus - so he drives her to school!

Zsa Zsa wants to meet with Rogelio, darlings, but he's not in the office yet. At first, Chucho wants to keep them apart, but she overhears and demands to see Rog. Then Chucho hopes to keep Rogelio away, but knows this won't work either. And Zsa Zsa's getting impatient. Chucho, Julio, and Paty wonder where Rog is. (Paty says maybe he's tending to one of his other businesses. She doesn't know anything about them, just that he has them.) Finally Chucho gets an idea: he'll wire Rog with a microphone and earpiece. He'll listen to Zsa Zsa's questions and feed Rog the correct answers.

The secretarias conspire to keep Zsa Zsa distracted until Rog is ready. Aida "spills" coffee on Zsa Zsa's coat by "mistake" and they all crowd into the bathroom to clean it up. Fortunately Zsa Zsa doesn't think to just give them the coat so she can wait outside and keep an eye on things!

Cardenas tells Ricardo about his wedding-night malfunction. (Why are he and Jess in the office? Doesn't anyone do honeymoons anymore??) Then a chipmunk from the bank calls Ricardo and tells him they just deposited 10 million pesos in his account. Woohoo! He tells Marisela that they're going to the fanciest place in town tonight. No more tacos! Nothin' but lobsta from now on, baby!!

Rog is ticklish, by the way. While they set up the mic and earpiece, he tells Chucho about Vero's deep depression and how she tried to hit Valentina. Chucho thanks him for intervening and says he can't allow Valentina to remain with Vero any longer. That's okay with Rogelio. He doesn't want any more ties to Vero. "I don't mind the kid so much," he tells Chucho, "but this doesn't change my hatred for you!" Ahhh, heartwarming. "Actually, I think I love Valentina," Rog thought-bubbles and grins goofily in the lobby. Susana sees him and has no idea what he's up to!

Oh, backing up a bit - Rogelio buys Paty a wristwatch. She rejects it and even holds up a big red "X" paddle. FAIL! She says he needs to make a much more impressive effort to win her over. He needs to show some creativity and sacrifice.

Mari tells Aida about how she lied to Ricardo about being rich and then told the truth and now he's really going to be rich and they're going out tonight. Aida jokingly invites herself and Julio along, then backpedals.

Meanwhile, Chatita's ceiling has sprung a leak. She goes upstairs to ask her neighbor to check his pipes. Mad Marta, still "disguised" as Marcia, sees her and reflects that she doesn't want to go back to the manicomio, where the real Marcia is complaining to the nurse that her sister didn't visit yesterday. Chatita lets on that she knows who Marta is. Her story doesn't add up. For one thing, Marta couldn't have told Marcia where she lives because Marta never met Chatita and it's not likely she'd still remember her address even if she had. [Interesting observation, but that doesn't explain how the real Marta knows where to find her either.] "I'll find out what you're up to," Chatita warns.

Chatita starts down the stairs, using both hands to steady herself between the wall and the railing. With a little push to Chatita's right arm, she knocks her off-balance. Chatita falls down the stairs and doesn't exactly stick the landing, as they say. She's unconscious and bleeding. "Now you won't find out anything," Marta gloats. She hurries away with a really weird, self-consciously guilty-looking grin on her face.

Chatita's ceiling is still leaking. Panfilo gets tired of waiting for her to come back from upstairs, and goes out to investigate. He finds her, calls for help, and Larita comes along with her phone and they call an ambulance and he calls Mari. Looks like no lobster tonight. :-(

Zsa Zsa asks Rog a lot of questions, and the Cyrano de Bergerac act doesn't go very well. The questions aren't very hard and can easily be answered by anyone who knows the basics of business and economics (like the consumer price index, for example), but that's not Rogelio. He gets confused when Chucho's answers are too complicated. He repeats everything Chucho says even when it's not meant to be repeated, and when Chucho reminds him of the yoga classes for the employees' well-being, Rog starts to go off on a tangent about "el secretario." He mumbles frustrated comments to Chucho into his mic, and Tracy asks if he's talking to a ghost.

Xochi tells Ricardo about her fight with Fernando over the Robo-Tot. She's afraid she'll be neglectful, belittling, and undemonstrative like her own mother.

Mari calls Chucho about Chatita. Chucho's got to go! He tells Rog he'll have Xochi take over for him on Rogelio's interrogation. (Rogelio mutters, "Sushi" and then has to tell Tracy that he's craving sushi and can't think on an empty stomach.) He and Mari take off for the hospital. The elevator is verrrrry slow.

Cynthia visits Vero at home. Vero tells Cynthia she's been faking the depression. Emotional blackmail is the only way she can hold onto Rogelio. She wants a big bottle of sedatives - actually, just an empty bottle, but with the label for sedatives. She'll fill it up with vitamins. Bwahahaha!

I know, I know - it's so funny, you might forget to laugh!

Next time:
Chatita is in a hospital bed. She'd better not have amnesia! And what is Mad Marta doing there?

Comments:
Yeah, there are so odds and ends that I left out tonight. I'll add them tomorrow. Sleepy now. But seriously, holy crap, Rogelio!

Sorry, I meant to say SOME odds and ends. And a ton of typo corrections. :o)

Thanks Julie! I went to get a bowl of ice cream and came back to see Alma talking to Hector. QUE??? That was quick but confusing.

Rogue and Val, predictable but cute because those two can pull it off.

Julie:

This recap is fantastic! I really like how you condensed and got just about everything!

I too will never call Rogelio, Rogue again. I think I will shorten his name as you did as Rog. It fits him pretty well. I am continuing to be surprised by him! I like the little talk he had with Val and that he took her to school. I think he'd make a great Papi.

Moronica needs to go already! That woman is so insufferable. I hope when the bebe is born, Rog gets custody and she goes bye bye. I can't stand her anymore, especially as she was going to smack the crap out of Val. SO NOT RIGHT! I am glad Rog saved Val and threatened Moronica too. Glad Rog told Chucho all about it too. Now Chucho needs to get custody of Val.

Hector does look too young to be Xochi's Papi, but maybe his Dad? I at least want to know who Mari's Mama and Xochi's Papa are before this TN is over.

That earpiece thing with Rog and Chucho was funny though. Rog kept messing up and Tracy I thought, might have caught on. We'll have to see tomorrow. I think Xochi can handle it.

I don't like what has happened to Chatita at all and am with you about her having amnesia. Chatita already has memory problems. Maybe with this blow to her head it will help her, just hoping. I don't want her to be badly injured. Marta is another one that needs to go and poor Marcia is falling apart!

You sure were speedy and gave us an outstanding recap, too. Thanks.

Funny how Rogelio's defense of Valentina has completely rehabilitated his character. I liked how he took her to school and they chatted about the obnoxious things they had done to each other. With his realization that he loved Valentina, Rogelio is ready to be a dad. So, now Paty can end up with him.

I loved Paty's "sorry, not good enough" reaction to the watch that Rogelio gave her. She is turning out to be one smart chica.

So now we have poor Chatita assaulted by that criminal Marta. So its back to the hospital. Yuck. I am so ready for the Marta /Marcia plot to be over. Just too stupid.

Anyway, on we go!

Jarifa

Thank you, Julie for a delightful recap. You are right it was a mind blowing episode and I will officially change Rogue back to Rogelio. ;-)
It was nice to see him act like a human in this episode, at least with Valentina. He is realizing that his dislike for Jesus has no merit.
Madelaine- you said it all for me regarding Vero and Chatita.
The red x with Paty was hilarious.

Ah you're so funny Julie, even when you're half asleep. I loved your comment on Chatita's fall...."she didn't exactly stick the landing".

And okay to joke, because of course Chatita will be alright, after the obligatory hospital scenes. How many have we had already?

Rogelio was so funny in his villainy, it was hard to hate him. So his CliffNotes transformation to good guy will be easy. I'll take a look at this on the computer because I want to see the Rogelio-Valentina scenes I like anything she's in (other than with that little twerp Quico).

Recap is finished now, with additions in blue.

OK. So...

...if Jéssica's parents are white, could Domitila's be japanese? She walks funny.

...reunite Héctor and Tracy would be wonderful? For who? Surely not for him, who doesn't want to see her.
I personally hate people who stick their noses in other people's business and try to change things without being asked. But that's me, and my life is not a TN about the ''family''

...now that Ricardo is a millionaire can finally afford to go to the dentist? Or at least get some whitening strips?

...there's an avatar for cell phones with he animated version of Alma (the Queen), besides the PEAM logos everywhere? Golly!

...the leak kept leaking and nobody put a bucket under it? I hope that doesn't ruin the carpet, or creates mold. Well, Chatita will probably not remember what a leak is even if she is swimming in the living room.

One thing I learned today:
When you finish arguing with somebody, specially before coming down some stairs, turn your back so she can push you! Never let her get down ahead of you so you can watch her!

One thing made me laugh:
-Rogelio is not here because he had a flat!
-That's a very old excuse, and I should know, because I AM OLD!!

I guess the point of reuniting Tracy, I mean Zsa Zsa darling, with her family (whether or not they are related to Xochi) is that Rog is going to screw up his interview with Tracy, but she will forgive Avon Monterrey out of gratitude towards Chucho and Alma. And then Rog can be demoted, and Alma and Chucho can be promoted.

Yes, by all means let the dripping in Chatita's living room continue. There is only one bucket in all of Monterrey, and it belongs to Chucho and Alma. They cannot share it, because it is the magical symbol of their love. If it gets wet, their love might melt!!

Anyway, what about Chatita's chamber-pot? She could have used THAT to catch the leak.

I didn't even catch the "flat tire" excuse they gave Tracy. LOL. Tracy is a lot easier to like now that she's not pursuing Chucho any more. Once she realized that she was making an ass of herself, she seemed to turn into a human being. Neat trick!

Thanks for the recap!

The scenes between Rog and Val were so good, especially when she went running into his arms and thanked him for keeping her from being slapped. I think they have the best chemistry of anyone on the show!

Thanks Julie--got bits and pieces last night so great to get all the grubby details filled in.

Did catch Virus in all her snakiness. Thank you writers for just about covering all the basis of breaking this little girl's heart that can be thought of.
Chucho needs to call Domi and have Val's bags packed and move her to his place right after school. Enough is enough. Somehow, just knew that Rog and Val would get together thru the mutual dislike of her mother. Now with Elias gone, I guess Rog will step in as her other Prince. Kudos to Rog on stepping in, but I'm sure that just made Virus ratchet up her plans to bilk him of everything even more.

The Marta story is just stupid. And Chatita pays the price? Why couldn't she have pushed the mother down the stairs--we would have all cheered at that one. Shot here--but I think I wouldn't be surprised, with these writers especially, to have the result of her fall go the totally opposite of expected, and Chatita will suddenly remember everything.

Dear Hector--his entrance I'm sure will give a whole new meaning to "small world". I know our beanies will most likely implode by this Hector revelation of who he is, but hey, juarever, right?

Thanks, Julie! Good thing you can keep your wit above water!

I thought Aida did a beautiful job of "accidentally" cascading coffee onto Tracy. It was absolutely balletic.

WHY ARE WE ADDING NEW CHARACTERS IN ULTIMAS??? Seriously, we have enough missing people who AREN'T these people. They'll have to rent a stadium for the gran final.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but has Ricardo said anything about giving some of his money to his new-found religion? I don't believe I've heard him mention it. Now that he is rich will he dump La Luz because he no longer needs it? Just wondering because new converts are typically obnoxiously single-minded about their cause.

Haven't had time to read this yet. Just wanted to celebrate my favorite moments.

LOVE Rogelio & Valentina together. The scene where they laughed at the tricks they had played on each other & congratulated the other on how funny their tricks had been. Super! I loved the funny antic nasty Rogelio -- but the food guy is too cute to be believed.

I like that he told Chucho that he still has no use for him but that his feelings don't have anything to do with Val or with accepting Chucho's help dealing with Tracy.

Could Moronica be any more haeful?

We were talking yesterday about the new characters & new plotlines. Could it have something to do with the blowup between Colunga & the actor who played Elias. When that sudden exit happened it must have left a lot of time to fill. Maybe that's why they went off in these craazy new directions.

Güera

Blue, I am hoping that Tracy and Hector will somehow tie together Xochi's missing dad, Mari's missing mom, and the money-grubbing trollop who bilked Sebastian of his fortune, because I DON'T WANT ANY MORE NEW CHARACTERS!!

Sylvia, I don't think Ric has mentioned La Luz ever since he got the news about Aunt Agatha's fortune.

But then, I don't think Xochi has mentioned the exercise gadget business either, so it could just be sloppy writing. However, I thought I saw a change come over Ricardo when the chipmunk voice on the telephone told him about the bank deposit. Not LITERALLY dollar $ign$ in his eyes, but close. We shall see.

Maybe he and Mari will find out they're allergic to lobster, and come back down to earth.

Quick comment before I read the recap/comments.

I know it’s kind of unrealistic for Rog’s redemption to be happening so quickly, but I did love the scene where Vale hugged him. I’m going to believe that his genuine love for Pato is softening him.

Nanette

Great recap, Julie. Thanks so much.

I agree re: Panfilo. He couldn’t manage to get to the kitchen to get a pan to put under the leak? Or find the infamous chamber pot?

Big step for Pato. She was actually able to refuse an expensive gift.

The Hector scene was a bit jarring. Could be bad editing, but I think Guera might be right about filling the time. These writers aren't good enough to make a smooth transition. The AB writers would have done a stellar job of taking a bad situation and making it work for the TN.

I think you're on to something Guera. From what I read it all happened in a brief span of time and there had to be a lot of scrambling by the writers to recreate or add story lines to take the place of anything they had planned for Elias.
Frankly, they had enough existent characters that they could have built on to just fill the space, why new ones is beyond me. I think they also wrote themselves into a corner with the whole "Alma laid up" plot line. Makes Chucho rather boring-- no make out scenes, seems to not want to even enjoy the fun ( he could have gotten out there and danced at the wedding...don't know why, I know he was keeping Tracy company, but it sort of bothered me he was just sitting there...or does Colunga not dance?) and he seems to be just moving through the other plot lines while the other actors are getting the fun or more challenging stuff to do. Frankly right now, Erick E. is stealing the show.

Daisy: I believe FC does not like to dance. Tries to avoid it in his TNs

Sadly, FC has no natural rhythm and doesn't dance as far as I know. I'll never forget a Cristina post-telenovela show where Daniela Romo practically forced FC to "dance" with her. Poor guy looked like he wanted to get swallowed up by the earth.

Julie's comments made me laugh so much, thanks!

This TN is getting too long. I think It should have ended when Jesús met Valentina. NIce to meet you, nice to meet you, The end.

Thanks

Thank you, Julie! I'm glad you got a fun episode, and your writeup is great! I loved the "didn't stick the landing" comment, too.

Slight continuity issue with the attempted escaleracide...when we saw Chatita from above, we could see a bit of what looked like either Spanx or the tops of hosiery as her skirt was mussed. Then in the closeup, her legs were in a different position and her skirt was neatly smoothed down to her knees, although she was supposedly unconscious and immobile. Amazing how she managed to bounce around those corners on the stairs, though! Nothing stopped her! Points for difficulty!

I loved Rogelio saving Val and their making peace. Okay, Rog, I guess I'll start to buy your redemption...looked like his heart grew three sizes that day.

I also loved how Rogelio got tickly giggle fits when Julio was putting the microphone on him. Chucho was giving him death looks like, "sheesh, I finally got rid of Elias, and now this guy has to steal the show?!?!" I am still super mad that Elias is gone, but I'm glad Rog is stepping into the void. Even at his baddest he was pretty funny, but now I can like him more. He still needs to pay for his crimes, though.

Pato was funny too, with her X paddle. I'm glad she agreed with me that a rich guy buying stuff doesn't prove anything.

I have little patience for people who refuse to dance. Especially when those people work in entertainment! Take lessons if you need to!

Julie, thanks, super job for such a disjointed episode. And I was wondering the same as you and Sylvia about Ricardo apparently forgetting his obligations to La Luz in the face of El Dinero. Funny how that works.

Maybe Hector was written in to teach Alma a lesson in butting-out. Weird.

Julia, I think the escaleracide (good one!) was performed in super slo-mo, then speeded up in editing. So Carmen S. had plenty of time to round those corners. ;)

Julia: Flaco has said the same thing. We argue about it. :) Being a person who is not very graceful, I don't feel comfortable dancing either. I'm of the opinion that an actor doesn't need to know how to dance or sing or ride a horse--unless s/he's going to be in a musical or a western.

I didn't notice Chatita's skirts being mussed/smoothed. Too funny! Perhaps she had a visit from the Modesty Fairy.

The Modesty Fairy can't call 911 for you, but she'll make sure you're decent when help arrives!

Thanks guys! Well, that explains old stick in the mud at the wedding. I didn't know Mr. Rico Suave didn't like to dance. I guess I assumed he would have some smooth moves on the dance floor too. Maybe they brought in the Tracy character to help Colunga not look so lame at the wedding. TeeHee

I wonder if Mari's mama ran away with Xochitl's papa? IJS

I think this TN went off the rails before Elias' unceremonious exit. Thinking back, it started down the wrong path once Disqua & Fernando split up. It would have been a much better TN if Fernando had pursued the truth about the fake story Rogelio planted in the paper. But alas, they didn't write it that way and instead of a really significant storyline where Fernando's character grows and becomes aware of his brother's treachery and his own strengths we get Fernando playing with a doll. We get Rogelio saying, "I set the love of your life up to serve major prison time. Sorry 'bout that." and Fernando replying, "No problem, bro. I gotta change my fake son's diaper." It's truly sad because both of these actors are very talented and could have made a storyline like that really memorable.

Getting rid of Elias was a terrible move. I loved that character and the actor is far better than Colunga.

The Jessica & Cardenas storyline has gone from sweet and gentle to being a cheap Viagra ad. I'm embarrassed for both of them.

Ricardo couldn't even handle his own paycheck. Do they really expect him to handle millions of pesos? Any bets on how long it takes for him to burn through the inheritance and lose the casa?

Fernando did not reply "no problem." He made his forgiveness conditional on Rogelio quitting the money laundering business. That was a huge sacrifice for Rogelio.

Not that I have much sympathy for his loss of income - but I bet there will be consequences from the other gangsters sooner or later.

Ricardo has no financial sense and no money management skills, so I don't think he'll be rich for long. If he were smart, he'd spend part of that on a home, all paid for with no mortgage, and divide the rest between some safe money market accounts and some investments, but that isn't dramatic, so he'll probably do something foolish. Who wants to eat lobster all the time? Blech. I'd prefer a taco any day.

I wonder if they're going to have Cardy actually deal with his crippling anxiety problem, or just keep using it for cheap humor.

I loved the look on Marisela's face when she said, "No more tacos...?" I think she was kind of enjoying being herself. Maybe the two of them will discover the high life isn't really all that rewarding
