Qué Bonito Amor #121 (Mex 159) Tuesday 10/1/13 As JAntos slumbers . . .

Que Bonito Amor, Oct. 1, 2013, Cap 159—As JAntos slumbers . . .

Sleeping Beauty: JAntos spends most of this episode prone and unconscious.

SUMMARY (typed as I watched):

Refried: Ana chewing the adoption people a new one for losing Jalesquito. Isa telling Coloso that Don Concho killed one of her dads (Pedro).

Maria figuring out via nice lady on bus that she might be pregnant. This thrills her.

Happy to think she's got JAntos's bun in her oven.

THE NEW:

Aaron and Rodrigo do a musical number together as they fight for Paloma's heart. It's kind of weird.

She has to deal with these nutty boys.

Blah blah blah love triangle we don't care blah blah blah.

Everyone's ripping Don Concho a new one over his douchebaggery. First Elvira and Lourdes, and then Susanito comes in to add his bit. Don Concho doubles up, apparently having heart problems.

Michael, now finally free from prison, wants to go to Mexico with Wendy and "their" daughter. Wendy agrees, seemingly happy.

"Let's live in Mexico." "Okay!"

The evil guard thought-bubbles in broken, accented English that if JAntos lives, he can give him problems. Evil guard injects an unconscious JAntos with some drug as he is unconscious, recovering from (whatever) medical procedure.

Don Concho is prone, apparently dying, and is asking forgiveness from Susanito for being a douchebag who didn't take care of Susanito when he was a kid. Apparently no one thinks to call 911 or anything. Don Concho is very contrite but Susanito isn't all that moved and wants to leave. Lourdes asks him to not be so cruel, because Concho is dying. (And no one calls 911? For real?)

Better late than never: Asking forgiveness from Susanito for all his douchebaggery.

By all means. Don't call 911 or anything. The guy is only dying. But you can put a blanket on him, right?

Our two high school galanes are dipshits and fight over Paloma. Paloma is on Team Rodrigo but he is starting to doubt her. "We're over" he tells her. We haz a sad. No, not really. FF >>

Dumping Paloma.

Susanito "forgives" Don Concho who apparently is going to die on his couch without any medical intervention. They have a bonding moment. Don Concho says he always wanted a son. Blah blah. "Forgive me" he says to his wife. He tells her to use the money they got from the bar to go far away and forget him. Then he dies. Still no doctor in sight. Lourdes cries at his passing.

Susanito returns home after watching Don Concho die on his couch. He tells his mom and wife about it. They tell him not to be sad. "I feel nothing" he says, no sadness, nothing. He was never a dad to me, he waited until the very last moment to acknowledge me. "But he did do it" his wife reminds him. Susanito says that Concho asked for mom's forgiveness. "I'd already forgiven him," Mancia says.

Telling his family of Concho's demise. They care more than he does!

Don Concho's body has been finally removed from the couch as FINALLY some medical professionals are here. (They couldn't come earlier, when he was expiring on the couch? Really?) Lourdes tells Elvira to ask forgiveness of Concho; it's not too late. Elvira coldly says, "Whatever for, he's DEAD." Lourdes laments to Concho's body that their daughter is a monster.

Elvira breaks up a little party between Ruben and OJ to slap Ruben and blame him for her dad's death. We have a montage of mourners for Concho—Mancia praying to the Virgencita and Lourdes getting her baggage and leaving the apartment. Meanwhile Ruben is telling Elvira to get lost. She's really angry but after Ruben leaves, OJ tells her that "revenge is a dish best served cold" and he apparently has a deal for her. He kisses her hand.

Evil pact between Elvira and OJ. Ewwwww.

Don Justo is calling up someone about doing something to help JAntos. I turned away here and missed it. Meanwhile JAntos is having some sort of physical distress as he starts to cough while still unconscious.

Sleeping Beauty (JAntos) reacts to the poison that was injected into his IV.

Rodri flashbacks to seeing Paloma having her hand held by Aaron and he does some teenaged angst crap and says that he loves Paloma.

Paloma is being advised by her mom to clear the air with Rodri and also to be honest about her feelings. Her honor is on the line! Don't be unclear with people!

Rodri is moping and tells his dad Coloso that things are dead with Paloma. Coloso says, put on your big boy pants and fight!

The mariachi dudes are shooting the breeze and Susanito breaks the news that Concho died. The guys are kind of sad. He wasn't the best boss, but he gave them a job. "May he rest in peace." Coloso admits that he just find out about how Concho killed Pedro, dad to Maria, and so he's lost respect for Concho.

Justo looks over an unconscious JAntos in the prison clinic or wherever they are. A lovely song is sung by Coloso at the bar, as we see Maria continue to travel by bus. "Paloma" seems to be the song (well it's about a paloma). Coloso sounds great.

Coloso sings while looking muy atractivo in tight pants.

Maria returns home to see that home is no longer there but is all closed up. She collapses in tears. She won't give up, she cries. Instead of going to the bar and looking for her friends, she just sits there on the wet ground and cries. "I swear I'll defend myself" she swears. Thuderclaps in the background.

The warden (I think?) says that they injected JAntos with antidote and they're going to let Justo stay with JAntos in the clinic. "I'm really sorry about that" the warden says in accented English, as JAntos doesn't seem to be recovering or regaining consciousness. JAntos seems to be dreaming of Maria writing him a letter about how they'll be together again. Justo looks down on JAntos, worried.

Don Justo holds a vigil over JAntos, still unconscious from the poisoning attempt.

OJ is pissed that JAntos is still alive and he plots with someone on the phone. He'll find Maria, he vows. Elvira tells him that Maria will be with her mom and sisters. OJ plots revenge. Elvira thinks it's great. She wants Maria to "pay" for all the "humiliations" that she did to Elvira.

Amalia and girls are talking over dinner, which is meager. Paloma admits that she's working for Aaron's relative (?) and says that necessity commanded her to do it. Maria arrives at their room (they're staying in JAntos's former pension room now that they've been kicked out of their other home). Hugs all around.

Coloso singing some more in the bar. We see Maria talking with her family and apparently filling them in with all the stuff that's happened, as Coloso continues to sing in the background.

Filling everyone in on the drama in L.A.

The staff at the bar, mariachis and everyone, have been called for a meeting. Turns out that Mirna has called them together to meet the new owners. They assume Elvira is an owner, but not so. Mirna is one owner, the other is Don Ruben. Ewwwwww. Ira looks bug-eyed as Ruben looks smug and evil.

JAntos finally comes to. "What happened?" he asks. "You got the flu but also someone tried to kill you." JAntos assumes it's OJ, but they have no proof. He moans that OJ will surely win now. Justo says they'll find a way to stop OJ.

Stop yer whining, JAntos, we have the gran finale this Friday! You've got to be up and about by then!

Amalia is reacting to all the stuff that Maria's told them about, and they all say they'll fight. They're a family and they'll stick together! The four of us! Well, not just the four, but JAntos as well as the dead daddy.

Happy United Family with obligatory dog.

END OF EPISODE!!

Avances show scenes from the gran finale on Friday. Looks like a corker! JAntos getting shot? A fire? MUST SEE TV!!!

FINAL NOTE FROM YOUR RECAPPER: It's been fun recapping this novela, with all its beanie-flipping and crazy nonsense. Thank you for your comments and insights. Let's hope the next novela that Jorge Salinas stars in is a bit higher quality!

I'll start. I think Concho's Karmageddon was perfect. I will list the details in my Closing Remarks post this weekend. 5 out of 5 Anvils.

Lourdes deserved better in the long run. She bore some responsibility for how Elvira turned out, but started seeing the light long before Concho did.

I also hope that Concho doesn't turn out to have been the sperm donor for Isabel and if -- God forbid -- he is, I hope she never finds out.

One thing left from yesterday regarding the size of Giuliano's firearm: He's overcompensating but Ruben overcompensated even more.

Looking forward to your recap with photos, Elvira!

"...I've always wanted a son". Why oh why does that statement just literally FRY me?! It fries me. It just fries me. I'll leave it at that.

I think Elvirus is in for one huge anvil.

As for the Isa kid, I'd just like to know how JA got tied up into that. This kid and the high school lovers were boring a long, long time ago.

Fatima

Last night Maria went into Scarlett O'Hara mode moping outside her no longer home.

I too have little sympathy for Lourdes because for whatever reason she truly loved Concho and will be the only person on earth who mourns his loss.

Hate Evile even more but her whacking Ruben a few times was worth waiting for.

One thing is really bugging me, let me restate that, the thing that is tops on my bug list is WTH happened to the money Amelia should have gotten for the bar? Obviously they wouldn't be live in a mansion someplace but surely she had enough money to move them out of Santos' one room with rollaway bed apartment.

I like Isa but one more minute of the teens will have me looking for a rope to hang myself. We all know teens are screwed up and all over the place emotionally but this junior Romeo and Juliet farce has gone on way too long. If the writers have to fill in time I'd rather see Ana scouring the streets of Guadalajara looking for and of course finding Vicente. At least that we we'd get some pretty scenery.

Time for hour Spanglish speaking warden to realize there is something rotten in his prison and it isn't Santos.

The mariachis better pack their stuff and walk out of that bar now because Ruben is surely going to fire them all and get his and OJ's vengeance against the poor hapless musicians.

Oops I left out one word and it should have been I have a lttle sympathy for Lourdes. What a diffeence one word makes.

Whatever little money Ruben got away with handing to Amalia for her half of the bar went to paying her hospital bill.

Based on there being a fire it looks like either Giuliano will try to set a fire to get back at Ruben and get v=caught in it or Ruben will try to torch the place for the insurance money.

Elvira: Thanks again for your great captioning snark (today's recap was no exception!) and this sic'emcuz it's such a "douchebaggery" filled circo attitude you take when writing up these things. You're right that JS deserves a better vehicle next go around. So do we!! Hope you'll like the next one enough to post comments at least. Gawd save us from another de los Mejia for a long long long while.

I had to laugh at your wondering where the heck the damned ambulance was already. I kept screaming the same thing. Well, on the bright side Lourdes doesn't have to spend all those pesos on Concho's crappy wasted surgery. She deserves that much for putting up with his ass-hat attitude for the last twenty-five years.

Also had to adjust the beanie antennae for the rapper vs. ranchero musical duel. Blech!

Onward and upward towards a hopefully satisfying fin.

Gracias Elvira,La Dama del Salon for your swansong. Remember when we started out with such high hopes for a kickin' good story and all the new names? All that just eroded little by little then by leaps and bounds and now it's an avalanche.

Beanie flipping was the least of our problems.

ITA and hope that Jorge Salinas gets a better role in a first class telenovela next time out.

About the teenage battle of the songsters. I muted it the moment Aaron opened his mouth, but even that wasn't enough to blur the image. I'm so tired of fillers, for whatever reason.

Decie--when they started their stand-off (can we call it a Mexican stand-off without offending anyone) I thought the same exact thing you did. I'd much rather have watched Jalisquito singing for pocket change to get back to DF and Ana finding him. Groan.

We all laughed at Maria not recognizing her pregnancy symptoms. But your screen shot and caption were funnier.

I think Concho had resigned himself to dying but in his ultimos momentos he was still a selfish, avaricious bastard who didn't want to spend the money on his own surgery and pacemaker. Elvira--loved your having to repeat the obvious--no 911 call.

They just *had* to do the Scarlett O'Hara thing with Maria. How lame was that. I agree with whoever said it yesterday--doesn't anyone use phones for important information anymore? Amalia should have called Justo if no one else and he should have told Maria right away--I think there was some time there before she was hauled away.

Where you turned and missed it, Elvira, Justo was *receiving* a call, probably from a prison official (about Santos) and he said he'd come right away.

So the blood leaking out of Santos ear was just a red herring.

How did our Spanglish speaking corrupt guard get the hypodermic needle and the right poison anyway. OJ had already departed for Mexico. OJ must have had a corrupt pharmacy under his thumb as well to furnish the right stuff for any job.

Ay de mi. I can't wait for this to be over.

The first rule of any novela is if someone passes out or gets hit by a car don't call 911, don't call for a doctor just stand around either blathering like Lourdes or screeching Dios Mio - too many novels to count. If I ever see someone pick up the phone and call for help I'll probably pass out and need someone to do it for me.

Re the fire torching it for insurance money would be just the thing Ruben would do. However I think it might be that good old fire bomber OJ will go up in flames and join his cousin Bruno in hell.

I keep wondering since it was pointed out in court that Don Nando had spend 30 years in prison without benefit of a trial that he would be released or at least get notice of a trial but no nothing. SMH.

I'm pretty sure that JS has enough clout that he wouldn't sign up for something he didn't want to do. I think a lot of the actors on this one signed up because they could get to sing or do something not normally allowed. We may shake our head but I seem to remember hearing or reading that it did VERY well, probably because it played to the strengths in the Mexican culture and maybe because it took a few swings at the Gringo justice system.

I checked Web MD the other night and bleeding from the ear + fever + coughing does = influenza.

Obviously the crooked guard works for himself as well. Santos -- as he was when we met him in episode 1 -- could have figured out that this guard was in with Giuliano. The cell phone placements should have been adequate clues.

Maria never had a cell phone. As to the other comments about the guys calling from El Lay, I wonder what the roaming charges would be.

Amalia claims she never had Justo's number. What, no caller ID?

Also, I'm sure that by the time the ambulance would have arrived, Concho would have died anyway.

Thanks, Elvira for a thorough and thoroughly entertaining recap.

I'm mostly watching for the musical numbers anymore on this TN, so I was happy to hear Coloso sing a repeat of "La Paloma" (cucucuru Paloma). That's "my" song so I love to hear it.

Did a mental review of the phone situation.

Amelia's house had a dial phone, didn't ever see a phone at Mancia's.

Coloso and Fernando have cell phones.

All the phone owners were in LA. Amelia probably didn't know Justo's number since he had always called her. There was a phone in the bar which someone could have used to call Coloso or Fernando but nope nobody apparently thought about it.

The first thing everbody should do now is buy everyone cell phones for use in furture disasters.

Sorry I'm so late, but it's been one of those days.

Muchas, muchas gracias, Elvira, for this recap and all the others. I really enjoy your writing. As you may know, lately I've been working my way through LQNPA by watching the old epis online and reading the recaps and most of the comments. Time and time again, I find you have perfectly articulated my thoughts, and often quite amusingly.

I can't believe that they are wasting our time with filler at this late date when it's obvio that there is no freaking way they will wrap up all the loose ends they have sticking out in every direction. Both the lame teeny bopper singing fight redux and the flashbacks of Jalisquito singing that were torture enough the first time had my finger itching on the remote. Basta ya.

On the bright side, the highlight of the epi for me was Mirna calling Ruben Rubis. Ha. I've always liked her. Yeah, I know she's a baddie, but she is so smart and sassy and unapologetically selfish, I just can't help it. I suppose she'll pay for stealing, but other than that, I hope she'll not suffer too much for her misdeeds.
