CI #131 -- Lost and Found: Simona Misplaces The Mini-Tav While Nilda Makes Contact With Solita

We settle in for another round of redneck hobsnobbery as the doc is informing Esther, Octavio and Miguel that Jose Antonio will be off the job for the next two weeks, and admits that he has a legal duty to report the shooting.  Esther goes in to chat with her hubby while Migui and Tav ask if the doc knows who shot JA and why.  The doc tells them what JA told him: that it was a tenant from Rancho Narvaez over some personal dispute.  (Sorry, Doc, but the name’s been changed to El Abuelo.  I suppose they forgot to make the script change…..)  Tav thinks out loud saying he’s relieved it wasn’t about “her”…..la Sra. Maricruz.  Migui does a quick verbal shuffle explaining how Esther and she don’t get along and that perhaps JA wanted to avoid having to mention her name. The doc says nope, nothing like that and then takes his leave.  Migui does another mental number on Tav to make him continue to doubt MC’s good character when it comes to other men in the region.

MC and Padre Julian are discussing plans to “legitimize” Solita’s “situation” with a religious wedding ASAP.  Santa runs in to give Padre Julian and Maricruz the news that Solita’s mama has reappeared and is looking for her daughter.

Octavio had gone to town to pick up the papers giving Miguel legal charge of the daily administrative doings at Rancho Simona and now presents him with a copy.  Tav admonishes his brother, warning him not to screw things up with Sickmona’s ranch the same way he did with their daddy’s old place.  Migui defends himself saying that he’d turned things around and they were doing well until the problem with Eusabio came up.  “—Sure!  Lots of things would be different IF, like I wouldn’t be living on this rancho or married to Simona!!”  Yep, agrees Migui, baby brother would have been living the high life still on Isla Dorada and would have finally won La Salvaje who, while she was there was anything but La Salvaje!  Sick to death with running the day to day for the ranch, Tav naively lets his brother determine the amount of salary he’s to be paid.  (Don’t sweat it, bro!  She’s good for it!)

The padre says he seems to remember Nilda’s mother though she wasn’t one of the regulars at church.  Santa also tells MC and the Padre that she has to be Solita’s real mama because she’s been asking about a deaf mute baby girl she’d left there years ago.  (Of course, she can’t actually give anybody a first name cuz she left her baby before ever giving her a name at all.)  MC wonders whether the woman has a right to come back into Solita’s life after abandoning her as a baby.   Santa explains to them that it took her a while to place the woman, but she’s certain it was the Nilda she remembers from years ago.  Santa was too surprised by Nilda’s sudden appearance to even think to tell her she knew where her daughter was until she’d told Maricruz about her and knew how MC wanted to handle things.

Across the way at La Simona,  Tav suddenly has another synapse connection fire inside his brain.  He begins wondering why he hasn’t seen Sickmona this morning.  Don’t worry about her so much, says Migui, with the same careless administrator’s swagger from back in the bad ol’ good ol’ days.  (This has got to spell trouble for Tav.)  He tells Tav not to worry about Sickmona, that she’s probably visiting over at ‘Rancho Narvaez’ again.  Tav worries she could fall off her horse and seriously hurt her head again.  (Like that would make any difference?  Perhaps braincell #2 has finally stopped functioning also now.)  Ok, says Tav, but he hasn’t seen Ofelia around yet, either.  “--Ofelia’s got a bad toothache and I had to give her money and send her off to the dentist."  She can’t watch out for Simona.  ” --Or his own son, reminds Tav.  Why no nanny for him yet, anyway?  Migui says he’ll take charge of things while she’s sick, and can do the same for mini-Migui, just like he did when Lucia first died.  He doesn't need or want a nanny.

Tav doesn’t argue further and leaves to do some riding. Migui thinks to himself that Sickmona is probably sound asleep in bed still (but he doesn’t care enough to get off his backside and find out for certain, the lazy, good-for-nothing sumbich.  There’s a stoopid gene in the Narvaez men that really makes me detest those two no matter how good-looking they are.)

Upstairs, Sickmini-mona, during one of her blank-outs, has walked into mini-Tav’s room and gotten pissed when she saw him in her room in that crib.  (Viewerville has flashbacks to Lucy Ricardo’s ballet lesson as slowly she turns, step by step…..and) Sickmini-mona’s hands begin reaching for mini-Tav’s neck.

Over at the foreman's fancy farmhouse, Jose Antonio won’t tell Esther why somebody shot him, just that it was a tenant on the ranch named Basilio who argued with him.  She lets him know that Miguel Narvaez was looking for him when they brought him in right after the fight.  The cheapskate hopes the Narvaez brothers pay the bill.

Sickmona picks mini-Tav up, decides she’ll get rid of him somehow, and then carries him off.  ---Oh noes!!!!  Nobody, but nobody is going to supplant her place at Rancho La Simona!!  Got it????

Basilio Hernandez, the tenant from Rancho Abuelo that shot Jose Antonio during a heated argument, has turned himself in to Teniente Vargas who keeps him overnight for questioning.  Basilio will only say the argument was caused over some macho thing.  (Then why the hell did he bother to turn himself in?????  Can somebody call the writers’ A Team back in from coffee break????)

Back at Rancho La Simona, Migui informs Tav he’s going to do some investigating of the shooting incident himself, as the new ranch administrator for La Simona.  Tav says go for it!  He’s too emotionally drained and could really care less.

Offalia comes into the living room to check on Tav and, to apologize for her toothache and having to stay pretty much in bed for the day.  He asks her to check on mini-Tav.  She comes racing down the stairs a minute later in a panic because the baby’s missing and so is Sickmona.

Jose Antonio tells himself that he’s not about to charge Basilio since then Maricruz would learn what’s really been going on all these years.  (Has Basilio apparently found out, and now knows absolutely everything JA has been doing to financially to screw MC over all this time?  Why not, since everybody else except the police has known for years.)

In the meanwhile, Padre J talks MC into fetching Nilda to find out what her true intentions are.  He counsels her that they are morally obligated.

Offalia and Tav search high and low for Sickmona and mini-Tav.

At Rancho El Abuela, Santa gives MC and the padre more details about her discussion with Nilda.  She has told her that she’s come back a rich widow and wants to repay MC and her family for taking care of her daughter all these years and also that she has plans to see a specialist about possibly curing her daughter’s illness.  MC tells Santa to fetch Nilda (so they can determine if she’s the real deal) and that she’s allowed to visit Solilta as often as she likes.

Padre pays a short visit to Natasha and discusses her painting getting chosen as an art competition entry.  (Viewerville is taking bets on her becoming a nun before this thing ends.  Yawn.  She was so much more fun when she was trying to steal everybody’s hubby and paint beefy ranch hands in the buff.)  FF>>

Santa arrives at the hotel in town and tells Nilda that she had known all along where her daughter was and gives her a quick backgrounder about Maricruz and their changed quality of daily lifestyle.  Nilda tells her how she left knowing she didn’t have the ability to properly care for her baby, and then how she suffered for years being married to the crusty old critter she shared her bed with.  Oh, but it was worth it in the end, cuz she learned right before he died that he really had cared for her (which, IMO, she only knew to be true because the crazy SOB didn’t change his will in the end.  Just color me cynical.)

Tav, meanwhile, finds Sickmona eventually, but she cannot remember any baby let alone taking one out of its crib.  She cannot remember being married to Tav, either, or why he’s sleeping over at her ranch.  Finally, she regains a bit of her old self and admits to him that she has vacant periods where her mind goes blank and just seems totally empty.  Of course, Tav is overcome with another forty-foot wave of guilt, blaming himself again for Sickmona’s falling off the horse in her jealous rage, and for the resultant development of the inoperable tumor that’s destroying her mind now.  He puts his arms around the distraught Simona of old and tries to comfort her, promising both her and himself that he won’t leave her while she continues to suffer.  (I say aw, go ahead! Better start thinking again about where that baby son of yours is, fool!)

Vargas gets nowhere with JA, after questioning him for details at his house, since Jose Antonio won’t press charges and his story’s the same: just a macho thing. Once Vargas is gone, Esther pesters her hubby for the truth about the reason for the shooting.  She loses her patience with him and says it may be “a macho thang”, but that’s usually only because a woman’s involved somehow.   He mouths off and she leaves, slamming the door behind her for the umpteenth time.  He admits to himself he’s glad Basilio decided to clam up.  “—If she only knew!”

Santa brings Nilda back to the hacienda.  She’s sent up to take care of Lupita and she informs Juanita that Solita’s mother has come back looking for her after all these years.

Vargas has to release Basilio for lack of evidence.  He swears to keep digging till he gets to the truth.

MC seems to vaguely remember Nilda and her mother  now. When Santa arrives at the hacienda, MC and Padre J begin questioning Nilda and listen to what she has to tell them about her reasons for leaving and then finally returning to look for her daughter.  After they determine she’s decent enough, they fill her in on Solita’s whole history.  Nilda is of course horrified at the rape; Padre J reminds her that she’s got nobody to blame for that unhappy circumstance except herself since she abandoned her baby girl so long ago.  (That was such a softball of a scene set-up.....)

Despite all Solita’s disabilities and doubtful circumstances, Nilda learns from them that her daughter was well loved (and seems to be a well-adjusted individual if you don't count the starvation attitude re: Perico, I suppose).  Nilda mentions her intention to take Solita to see a specialist about her medical condition and to reward MC with a huge cash payment for her family having taken care of her daughter all these years.  MC won’t even consider a “reward” for Solita’s care since she’s considered a regular member of her family.  Once MC and the padre are certain of Nilda, they finally allow her to be taken upstairs.

While all this is taking place downstairs, Engineer Al and Perico come upstairs the back way, to Solita's room.  (They're checking on Solita cuz she’s supposedly getting ready to celebrate news of their religious wedding.)  Al gets ticked when Juanita finally explains that he can’t go down to speak to MC because Solita’s mama has suddenly reappeared after all these years.  Al suddenly jumps on his soapbox about the woman returning at all.  He does an uncharacteristic rant about all the bad things that ail Solita or that she’s had to suffer through because of her mother abandoning her…. And yakity yakity-yak….  He mercifully stops when there’s a knock at Solita’s door.  In walks MC, Padre J, and Nilda.  Solita and Nilda stare as Solita senses the ‘call of the blood’.

Another great recap, Jardinera. Your "lost and found" title is very appropriate. (Too bad Tav still hasn't found his brain.)

Thanks for another great recap, Jardinera. Well done... as always.

So Octavito is missing? Yawn.

So José Antonio was shot? Yawn.

Poor Nilda. Her daughter was raped and had a child and now is pregnant again. See, one must be very careful about where she abandons her deaf mute daughter.

I wonder how many episodes it will take for Nilda to ask to see her grandson? How many more before she asks his name?

Carlos

Fab job, Jardinera.

The lack of concern over the well-being of two babies in the house with a mad woman is disturbing. Hope we see some real efforts to find little Tav next episode.

I am still not moved by Nilda's story, but if she finally gets Solita the medical and educational attention she needs, she will become my favorite character (my standards are low in this show). I had to laugh when after hearing that Solita had been raped and had a baby (and MC still doesn't know/care who did it), Nilda got indignant about how poorly they had looked after her. (Like she can talk.) And that was even before she found out that her teen duaghter was once again pregnant. Ha!

A great thorough recap Jardinera and much appreciated.

To many yawns Carlos. It was a good show last night with a lot going on. The story is moving along nicely. As I stated a few days back, I like the storyline, the location, the actors, the ranchos, there's so much to like about this novela and yes, it's moving along at a nice pace. Wouldn't it be something if it's revealed how much money JA stole from Maricruz. It's about time that he pays for all that thievery. Just because Maricruz didn't love him, he had to rob her--que! What a scumbag Jack Ass

What did $imona loca do with the baby? Must see TV tonight.

I don't know how I knew but I just believed that Solita would get the works. I mean new clothes, a new hair style, Mole removal? but a operation yes and schooling too. Well it now looks like all of that is about to happen. As I just said, stay tuned for some must see TV tonight.

Vivi - I loved your recap yesterday!

Jardinera - "Lost and Found" - Love it!

So, I think it is time to complain about Miguelito not getting his 15 minutes (heck, I am willing to knock it down to 5) if Greedy Mig is going to be too cheap to hire a nanny.

Gringo - I agree... "Must see tv tonight". Unfortunately, I will have to wait until tomorrow.

Caryn

Thanks for the recap! I actually thought that this was one of the better episodes in a long time. I like the dual mother perspectives, Nilda abandoning her child and now searching and Simona losing her child and forgetting she has one. And for the first time in a long time I felt bad for Simona.

Thanks, y'all. I'm yawning along with Carlos about now. I'm straining, though, to manage a sense of humor unlike him and the rest of you.
LatinaMD: I don't think Tav at this point could find his brain with both hands. He's been turned into such a whimpering male version of the tn protagonista I'm starting to wonder if he's shaving his armpits and legs....

=============
This telenovela could have been so much better if they'd squeezed it down by 20 or so epis. I noted 30 more episodios after last night till the fin! That's six more long, agonizing weeks of wishing MC would relocate her own brain. She left it, like somebody else said, back on Isla Dorada with Doris and the gang. --I'm starting to crochet while the characters discuss the uber-discussed and non-essentials rather than watching the screen, and that's bad.

======
Carlos: I missed that little nugget re: all this time and no discussion now of Santa and JA's suspicions that Ewwwie was the obvious baby-daddy. Now that he's moldering in the ground and Twinsebio having moved on, it must be moot to the mute.

=====
Just a thought which may be superfluous at this stage in the discussion (and no doubt was brought up long ago by somebody already) that if Solita doesn't know what a name is or what it's needed for, let alone that she has one of her own, why should we be surprised Jr. is still referred to as "Hey You!"??
========

ViviDC: "The lack of concern over the well-being of two babies in the house with a mad woman is disturbing." ITA! But, it's to be expected since Tav's two brain cells are barely functioning and Miguel has become almost as nutty and dangerous as Sickmona in his own way.

==========
Gringo: I'd say we'll have to wait another day or two to find mini-Tav. I think we've still got to wait till the last couple of weeks before Vargas gets the goods on Jack Ass. However, that will be my "must see t.v."

Caryn: Tks. ITA and think Miguel was a better daddy back on Isla D. when it was just him and the kid.

Jardinera - I agree and I disagree (double minded like the characters). Am I remembering correctly that Miguelito had his accident while Miguel was sleeping off a drunken stupor?

Caryn

Caryn: you remember correctly, but I was thinking of right after Lucia bought it and he hadn't moved back to Mexico.

Thank you Jardinera. I shook my head in disbelief all through it. 30 days you say? Can't wait.

Disbelief #1. Awfulia is away in town and there's a baby and a young boy alone in the house with a woman who is losing her mind for probably hours.
Disbelief #2. When they finally discover that the baby is missing and try to get info from Simona, Octavio shuts Awfulia up when she insists he ask her what she did with the baby, saying, Quiet Awfulia, I'm sure he's fine.
Disbelief #3. They let Basilio go for lack of evidence, but Basilio confessed and JA has the would to prove it. You don't need more evidence than that. Just because someone doesn't want to press charges doesn't let the person off the hook.

Disbeliefs that I want to see going forward.
#1. Solita goes to the doctor and they restore her hearing. She then can talk like the rest of us.
#2.Perico and Solita's baby was conceived on their civil wedding night, making the baby legitimate in God's eyes too.
#3.Rancho Abuelo is saved because of Nilda's money somehow. Details aren't important.

Jardinera - Ah, yes! You are correct. Well, that didn't last long. Sad.

Caryn

cathyx,

"Solita goes to the doctor and they restore her hearing. She then can talk like the rest of us."

Though I'm now almost certain that will happen, I'm so looking forward to how they handle this, since Solita has no concept at the moment of what hearing is even like. In reality she would probably be both terrified and overwhelmed initially, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if she wakes up from restorative surgery speaking flawless Spanish. We can only hope that the first words she utters will be:

"EUSEBIO RAPED ME!"

Carlos

Thank you, Jardinera for your wonderful recap.

The irony of it all when Nilda was "almost" blaming the Maricruz contingent for the rape of Solita when she had abandoned her daughter in the first place. So glad that the padre reminded her of that. Not expecting much from Nilda. Solita might have been better off never knowing her; but then again she might be good for some $$$ Only time will tell.

Jarifa

Carlos, I picture it more like they start out slow, first with everyones names, she repeats them slowly at first, but saying them perfectly after a couple tries, then learns the entire language in 2 maybe 3 episodes.

cathyx, close enough... the problem will almost certainly be swiftly solved and then... Next!

Carlos

I wish I have yours optimism. I don't think, that here we'll see something normally ended. All the lines in the "next" mood.
But the main problem for me now is that protagonists didn't see each other almost for 10 episodes. After the story moved to rancho they communicated only in first 10 episodes. Not a lot, but anyway. In last 20 episodes we saw only few scenes between main couple. Is it the story about love? I don't get it. I know, that Ana Brenda and Daniel Arenas hadn't any problems to work together. But if I didn't know it, I could think, that they hate each other and it's the reason, why we didn't see them together on the screen. I started to think, that Octavio spent much more time on the screen with Simona then with his great amor.
This novela drives me crazy.
Alegria

Jardinera, this was another great recap--thorough, elegant, and hilarious. If only the characters and the action rose to your level. I just can't get excited about Nilda's return. I wonder if she won't confuse Solita as much as help her.

Can u please finish the telenovela and write untill episode 161 ?? Plz
