We start with a rehash of Friday’s conversation between Jose Luis and Oriana. She refuses to go back to him, so when Alina goes to say goodbye to her father, he asks her if she’d ever live with him without Oriana. Alina looks torn - this is a choice no kid should ever have to make.
Padre Reddish Plaid is visiting Paloma at the hospital. She’ll be let go the next day, but she’s not as happy as one would expect, because she wants to find out the truth about Ines.
Their talk goes something like this:
Paloma Cruise: “I want the truth!”
Padre Nicholson: “You can’t handle the truth!”
Padre worries that her heart might not be strong enough for this, but she insists that she has to know everything there is to know about Ines’ husband and she’s sure that he won’t lie to her, because he’s a priest.
Mariano isn’t very proud of his priesthood these days, but he does tell Paloma that Francisco Castro, the man who was interested to invest in Aresti Breton is none other than the mysterious husband. Cara de enferma impactada de Paloma (meaning she’s shocked, but her eyes are only moderately goggling upon hearing the big news).
Oriana and Alina have arrived home and I feel like a scene has been edited out, because Oriana already knows what JL asked Alina to do - choose between her two parents. They sit on the bed, Oriana’s huge heels right over the nice duvet (it always bothers me when I see TV people jump into bed wearing their shoes). They are both crying as Oriana tries to explain that when someone does something hurtful, the others get upset. Alina begs her mom to forgive JL, because she wants to stay with both of them. Oriana says she’s too upset to forgive him and Alina needs to understand that sometimes we can’t get all that we want. One thing is for sure, though: she is the most important thing in her life and they will always be together. So that must mean they’ll soon be apart.
Back with Paloma and Padrecito, he basically tells her Oriana’s story, but changes her name with Ines’:
Ines married Francisco Castro in Colombia; at first he appeared to be a good man, but then he got involved in gold smuggling and put all his dirty money in Ines’ name, without her knowledge. When she found out, she left him, came to Mexico and met Lucina and Raquel. For a while they all thought the husband had died, but he is obviously very much alive. The problem is that Ines has her signature on the dirty money account and now they are trying to find a way to help her with this legal situation.
Ricardo knows the truth, too, but both he and Ines avoided telling Paloma because they were ashamed of the situation.
Paloma decides to hire the best lawyers than money can buy to defend her grand-daughter, no matter if they have to turn to bribery to set her free - whatever it takes, Paloma is willing to do, as long as she can give Ines some peace of mind and help her get rid of that criminal husband of hers. Paloma wants to make up for the way she abandoned Palomita back in the day; in order to protect Ines and Lina, now she’ll show all the courage that she lacked when she should have confronted her husband. Even if this battle will mean the end for her, at least she’ll have the solace of knowing she solved her grand-daughter’s problems before dieing.
Berto brings a journalist to see Benigno. Apparently the guy is interested to find out Ricardo’s story. Benigno is willing to talk if he gets paid, but his novia, Perlita, the picture of elegance and grace personified, spills the beans.
Lucina is getting ready to visit Oriana, when Ruben drops by, wanting to whine talk about another fight he had with Maddy. Lucina thinks that if he was able to be with his wife all these years, it must mean that he truly loves her. No, not at all, Ruben denies, he hates her! Then, what is holding him back from getting a divorce, especially since the kids are all grown up? Could it be that he’s scared of the scandal and of not benefiting from Paloma’s money, anymore?
Ruben can’t deny the obvious, but Lucina suggests him to find a job, maybe talk with Ricardo about working at the plant, it’s never too late to start over.
She has to hurry for her meeting, but she leaves him thinking about it. Also, he’s welcomed to spend the night in one of the rooms, they only have two guests, Berto and Francisco.
Athos, Porthos and Aramis ….aaaa, I mean, Ricardo, Piero and Mariano are at the Blue Bungalow, talking about the fact that Ricardo doesn’t trust Antonio anymore, so they need to find someone else to help them with Oriana’s Colombian problems.
And here comes D’Artagnan ….. Oriana, I mean - and Mariano explains her about the semi-truth he told Paloma. The old lady still has no clue about the fake identity thingie, but she wants to help Ines more than anything else.
Oriana feels very bad about the continuing lying and all the problems she brought to Paloma’s life, but Mariano tries to comfort her by saying that True-nes had her own share of difficulties - being a prostitute, having an abortion, the drug addiction. Part of this Oriana didn’t even know, but still, she can’t stand the lying. Mariano reminds her that he’s lying, too, and he’s a priest, but maybe Jesus will forgive him, forgive them both one way or another. Amen.
Lucina has arrived to visit Oriana, but she is with Alina for now. The little girl is still very torn up about the whole mommy and daddy are making me choose situation and Lucina tries to explain her that her mom suffered a lot and her love for her father is now gone because of that. Alina insists that her father is a good person, he even brought her a present.
Lucina tries to make Alina understand that presents and having money in general doesn’t mean that someone is a good person. And sometimes one can’t have everything they want, they need to make a choice and get used to the idea.
This is a rather strong talk for a 6 year old, though, because Alina is still fighting the notion of being separated from either one of her parents.
Outside Ricardo’s Bungalow, he and Oriana talk about the signature on the account being hers, but the check withdrawals have been signed by JL. He’ll hire the best lawyers to prove that she didn’t know what her husband was doing and together they can conquer the word etc…
They smooch, profess their love for one another, smooch some more and decide to hook up later in the playroom at Paloma’s house (how appropriate).
Berto is with JL, explaining him that he found a journalist interested in writing Ricardo’s story and he even convinced Benigno to talk to the guy, but now they need to pay him. JL has nothing against the idea, but then he asks details about what Benigno said.
On the other side of the door Ruben eavesdrops on the whole story of Ricardo’s presumed abuse of a mentally retarded teenager. What Benigno didn’t tell the journalist and only shared with Berto was the fact that Ricardo wasn’t the only guy to be with Maria that night. JL wants to make sure that Benigno won’t say anything about the existence of any other men. Berto also informs JL that the article will be published in the newspaper the next day.
Ruben rushes to Ricardo’s house, to talk to him, but Ric is not home, so he decides to wait, after not being able to reach him on the phone, either
Oriana arrives home to find Lucina waiting for her. They briefly talk about Alina’s sorrows and Lucina warns Oriana not to get back together with JL just because of her daughter. Then she tells her about JL’s proposition to give them the 3 mill Oriana invested in the hotel boutique - this way they’ll be able to pay their debt to Oriana and have a new socio. Also, she mentions that JL and Raquel are sleeping together. Oriana thinks they are having a relationship, but the notion makes Lucina roll her eyes, because Raquel is just a facilota (easy lay, if I may take the liberty to translate like this).
Oriana doesn’t seem to care too much about who JL sleeps with, but she strongly advises Lucina not to accept his investment, because he’s into money laundering. She wants to talk to JL about this herself, set things straight with him.
Ricardo arrives at Paloma’s house and he sneaks into the playroom (Jorge sees him, I don’t know if this will have any significance later on, because he also sees Ric leave the next morning).
Ricardo goes into the playroom and I swear he has the most idiotic look on his face - cara de tonto enamorado comes to mind. He starts playing with some decorative bird cages that hang from the ceiling; but then he finds a heart shaped box in one of them - he pulls it out, apparently the little object has a key attached to it, could it be a music box? Ricardo looks at it strangely - did I miss a scene where this box appeared before?
Oriana is in her bed with Alina, when JL calls her. She asks him to get out of the country and leave them alone; again, he promises that he left his shady negocios behind and then Oriana asks to see him the next day, talk about his proposition to Lucina.
Then Oriana goes to meet Ricardo in their love shack. She starts mentioning JL, but he doesn’t want to talk about anything other than their love. A love that is not impossible, only a little complicated, so that’s why they have to fight really hard for it.
He wants to cuddle and I’m thinking what a gentleman he is, but in the next scene their clothes start to come off - strangely enough, one of the last pieces of clothing to disappear is an ugly orange ascot (or whatever they’re called) that Ricardo has been wearing most of this episode.
In the morning, they are both blissfully satisfied, curled up in the satin sheets that every respectable playroom has to have handy, just in case the kids need a silky nap in a huge double bed.
When Ric leaves (the moment Jorge sees him), his walk of shame is anything but shameful - he looks as happy as a pig in … you know what.
Arriving home, he finds out Ruben fell asleep in the bungalow, waiting for him.
When he wakes him up, Ruben tells him that he heard Ines’ husband and Berto talk about the publication of the news concerning Ric’s abuse of a girl 18 years before. Ricardo urges Celio to buy all the newspapers, see which one published the article.
Maddy reads the article and rejoices - the famoso ingeniero Ricardo Sanchez Breton abused a crazy teenage girl and produces a son; the piece has a big picture of Ricardo, I couldn’t notice if he’s wearing an ascot or not, though. She forbids Fabiola from having anything to do with a crazy woman’s son ever again. Oriana and Fabiola are both very worried.
Oriana calls Ricardo, who already knows, but also explains her that JL and Berto planned the whole thing. They decide that Paloma can’t find out about it, in her fragile state.
Fabiola calls Sebas, who thinks Ricardo gave the news to the press just to upset him.
Ricardo, Ruben, Oriana and Piero meet up at Aresti Breton to talk the situation. Piero isn’t sure what the statute of limitation is when it comes to abusing a minor (ugh, this sounds so bad), but Ricardo is sure he doesn’t want Antonio’s help in finding out. What he wants is for Tony to agree to test his DNA. They conclude that if they take the test and neither Piero or Ricardo are a match, that should only leave Tony as a candidate. Ruben points out that being able to have an erection so drunk is highly unlikely, but he refrains from talking too much because Ines’ precious ears might feel uncomfortable. She doesn’t mind it, though, she’s seen one or two erections in her lifetime. (Viewerville knows that even the dolls in a certain playroom could say the same)
She can’t stay with them any longer, though, Paloma will be out of the hospital shortly and she needs to make sure that Maddy doesn't spill the latest secret they need to keep from her.
JL reads the article, too, and is upset it only appeared in one newspaper, but Berto is sure this is the kind of news that the entire press will be interested in soon enough. JL gives him two envelopes of money, one for Benigno and one for the journalist - no cash for Berto, though, and no check, either, this type of business doesn’t do checks. Berto is upset but JL quickly makes it clear who the boss is and reminds him he still needs to find the gun, which he needs in order to pressure Oriana into reconciling.
As Berto gets out of JL’s room, he meets Lucina, who can’t help but notice how friendly her two guests have become. Berto tries to brush it off as men talk, but Lucina is so much smarter than that.
Antonio has been summoned to talk to Ricardo and Piero, but he denies being involved in any abuse; he won’t have no DNA test and he’s also sterile, in case anyone asks. And he quits.
Piero is willing to take responsibility if he’s the father, but Ricardo is very worried about how the article will affect Sebastian, especially since today is the day Sebas is to take possession of his mother-granny inheritance.
Berto gives Benigno his money, but it’s not that much - surely, Berto got his share, too. He warns Benigno that other journalists will want to talk to him, but he’s forbidden to say anything about other men being with Maria that night. Benigno got the message and he’s also sure Maria won’t say anything, because she’s too scared of him. He has no clue where she’s being hospitalized, though.
Piero got in touch with another lawyer to help them with the Colombian situation. As Mariano joins them, the two friends decide to take the DNA test to see if one of them is a match.
That’s all good, boys, but will Sebas agree to play your “who’s the daddy” game?
I think not, because he is with Maria, at the clinic, trying to make her swear that she won’t tell that she’s been with other men the night he was conceived. She seems reluctant to listen, so he tells her he could end up in jail if Ricardo ever finds out that he knew the truth and kept it hidden - I have no idea if Sebas could ever be held legally accountable for hiding the abuse, but his manipulation of Maria seems to be effective, because she looks very scared.

Adrianna, this recap was so funnny! I was thinking the same thing! Do guys get that happy when they are about to get some? Geez! Also, how embarrasing for Oriana! He strutted out of that house! And his car was parked out in front ALL night! He alpha dog pissed all over and let everyone know he left his scent there!

Fabulous recap, Adriana.
JL has really made it his mission to screw with Ori's and JL's lives. Somehow, I don't think his bosses will be so happy with him when they find out he's using precious time and money for his personal matters, instead of pinning down where to launder their money.
Poor Lina. I felt for her. But I also appreciate that Ori and Lucina were being honest with her and treating her like an intelligent human being. I felt that the adults in PEAM went out of their way to shield that little girl from the obvious bad stuff that was happening around her. It made it seem like they were ignoring the problem, and in the end it put her in more danger. These adults are opening Lina's eyes about her father in the gentlest way possible, without disregarding her feelings for her papa and his feelings for her. It's a tough situation. JL, however, is just trying to manipulate her and manipulate Ori through her.

Let's see, a guy getting a spring in his step and a smile on his face because he is about to/has just made love to a hot woman, whom he happens to love. This is surprising?
This method of telling Paloma parts of the truth bit by bit will work well, I think. Now, she pretty much knows the whole truth except the last big piece-- that Inez is Oriana. And of course, what happened to real Inez. That will be tough.
The Three Musketeers are right though, that Ori isn't bringing Paloma any more problems than Real Inez would have. In fact, she's probably bringing more joy to Paloma than screwed up Real Inez would have.

Adriana, your recap had me in stitches. Just what I need on a dreary wet day like this. Thanks a million. What an episode!! I love how Oriana and Luc are truthful and understanding with Alina. She may be smart but she is still six. Ruben waiting for Ric in the blue house said a lot about him. Madhilde has no sense of value. He is a great guy. Shame Lucinda is not interested. They make a good pair. Berto is not thinking. JL is stringing him along, but his greed is blinding him. Is there any doubt that Maria's dad got half of what was due him. The three amigos are a joy to watch. A padre who lies to save a friend and a teenage rapist turned good guy. A fraud victim who makes out in a child's playroom. What's there to complain about. Is Sab afraid he might end up a nobody? His lazy attitude makes him a nobody. Not his lineage.

To be fair, Maria has made it very clear that she was a very willing participant, and the initiator, in the sex with Piero and Antonio-- so I'm not going to label them as rapists. Not that it makes it right, since even back then they all knew Maria as a little off (it seems she has gotten worse as time has gone on). Since she was about 16-17, and they were all barely 18, I'm not even giving a lot of weight to the "abuse of a minor" thing. They were all in their mid-late teens. The real crime is that Piero and Antonio kept quiet about it all these years and let Ricky take all the blame and guilt on himself.
If I'm remembering correctly, the doc who put Maria in the clinic said she had the mental faculties of a five year old.
The way they describe teenage Maria is that she seemed to have freedom to come and go and used to flirt with all the men who worked in the house. Could her continued seizures over the years have caused a deterioration in her mental faculties?
My guess is the seizures plus getting no educational or occupational training living with dear old Benigno caused her to regress.
Cynderella, Ricardo's strut comes so naturally to him - add to that the fact that he got 'lucky' and BANG! Alpha indeed.
I hope Jorge takes notes, in case Raquel ever drops by and is bored.

How Maria used to be back in the day is still kind of blurry in my head - I think she had a difficulty to distinguish the bad from the good, but with some help she might have been better down the line. The fact that she was kept with Benigno for so many years surely didn't help.
When he was a teenager himself Ric didn't have much power, but after that he should have placed her in a mental hospital, give her the help that she was obviously not getting - if she got better, she might have even told him the truth about that night.
That's one of the few things I don't like about Ric's character, he seemed to care very little about the conditions she lived in in that crappy house.

Niecie, when the ascot was finally off, I did notice that DZ has some chicken pox marks on his neck and cheek, they've been there since forever, so maybe they're trying to hide those in some of the more revealing scenes?

Ruben is a god man at heart. But he still deserves Mati for being so spineless, lazy, and cowardly. Once he mans up and leaves her and gets a job, then I will start to feel more compassion for him. I do like him. But he can work harder at being a better person and worthy of another woman's love- be it Lucina or Fidelia. I can see that the changes are starting. Lucina has been a good influence on him.
I admit that I'm a Ruben fan. I loved that his first instinct after overhearing the conversation was to tell Ricardo. And he even stayed overnight! I think he will leave Matilde eventually, he first has to get a job, but after that I think he's going to leave. Once he has a job, he'll get his self respect back, and watch out Lucina. I hope he doesn't go for boring Fidelia. Lucina will spice up his life way more.

Perhaps if there really is a connection between Oriana and Palomita, there will be some sort clue in the music box that will lead Ori to the truth. Or maybe it will just come into play later, and we need to remember it. The camera must have focused on it for a reason.

There was another little treasure chest or jewelry box sort of thing in another of the birdcages, but he didn't take that one out. I wonder if that one has something, too, or if just the red heart is important.

Poor Ruben. His life was just fine until Inezoriana showed up. He had his golf, his clothes, his club, and his buddies and yet he's not the one complaining. I think that he's a good guy who just doesn't have a lot of ambition.

I think Ruben would have been happy in the stay-at-home parent role, which is still seen in many places as a legitimate choice for women but not for men. I mean, he kind of did do that, and he's definitely more nurturing to his children than their mother is, but society is more apt to tell him that he needs to have an outside job while not telling Mati the same thing. I found it! Rescatame tema instrumental was in the 17 episode after a friendly box game between Padre Plaid and Ricky.

I think Ruben is a good guy, too, but he's spineless and lazy - not much of a turn on when it comes to someone like Lucina.
Maybe if he gets his act together she'll find something appealing to him, for now all I see is friendship. I agree with whoever said some time ago that he needs a Lucina type, because he's just too mellow and she's spitting fire.
