Mentir Para Vivir #54 Mon 12/23/13 The Fabulous Foursome interrupted by a busy body
The old:
Homero Poirot de la Garza started his investigation of the many secrets of the Aresti-Bretton
& Friends gang.
Homero: “Why
do you need all the guards?”
Fidelia: “To protect
my porcelain dolls collection. There are a lot of robberies in the area.”
Homero: “Yeah…
Do you think I’m stupid? You don’t look like a woman with a doll collection. You
look like a bad liar. Are you hiding from Francisco Castro or Jose Luis Falcon?”
(Or the narcotraficantes? They are very in
demand these days, they should be involved in every telenovela).
The new:
Paloma asks Homero to butt out; does he plan to take everything that she loves
away from her? No, he explains, that’s not what he wants, he intends to help.
But Paloma can’t take his help in her fragile state, she starts to faint, so
everyone scolds Homero for bothering her – doesn’t he know she’s a sick woman?
Leo and Ric are especially firm and Homero tries to defend
himself by saying that he wasn’t aware of how serious her condition was. (How could
he if 5 minutes after he showed up, he started using his magnifying glass in
search of detective clues?).
He thinks Ric and Leo are a par of imbeciles - pair of imbeciles (Ric’s face is priceless when
he hears this, but he takes it like a bog boy); don’t they realize they could
all be in grave danger? And things will only get worse if they don’t decide to
talk. Ric should especially consider this, since he says he loves Ines so much.
He leaves to search for a hotel room (what, Fidelia
is at full capacity?) and Leo urges Ric to tell Homero the entire story,
because Abuelo already knows a lot of bits and pieces.
With Piero, Ric talks about the gun that killed
Berto (I feel like they’ve already had this conversation a million times
before). Piero thinks the guy who killed Berto was asked by Francisco Castro to
get his hands on the gun, buy why would FC want it in the first place? To
pressure Oriana, of course; what they need to do is get the gun back, it doesn’t
have Oriana’s finger prints on it and could help her with the murder charges.
The only problem is that they don’t know where Jose
Luis is keeping the gun; it can be anywhere in his house, including in a safe.
Does Piero know how to open one? Nope, but they can find someone who can. (I
guess they could always place an ad in the paper: “Prestigious ingenieros looking for trustworthy, discreet specialist in
picking safe locks. No recommendations needed. Bring your own tools.” –
This might work.)
Oriana interrupts them to say that Paloma has calmed
down and reminds everyone who hasn’t heard her the first hundred times that
this is all her fault.
Later, by the pool, she keeps up with her lamenting,
while Ric tries to comfort her. You see, this is their thing: she whines, he
cheers, she cries, he kisses.
Oriana wants the whole ordeal to be over – she’d
rather go to jail than lie one more day. And since Alina will be well taken
care if by Paloma (if Paloma lives long enough, Ori forgets to add), she has to
put a stop to all the deceiving.
Ric thinks that they shouldn’t do anything rash,
maybe Homero Poirot will help them. Or, if not, they can go to another country.
That’s not to Oriana’s liking, though, she’s tired of running, and she prefers
the jail.
No, no, he interjects!
What Ric says: You only lied to protect your
daughter, Lucina and Raquel had your passport and you had no choice. Together
we can find a solution, I’ll do anything for you.
What Viewerville hears: Please don’t leeeeeeave me.
Pleeeeease!
Homero has found a hotel room and it has to be one
of the hotel boutiques that’s part of the chain Maricruz Olivarez stayed in before
getting her happily ever after with the oblivious one, Octavio Narvaez – the room
has a window with a great view towards the hall – why would anyone think this
is a good design choice?
Leo comes back from buying some food and clothes,
just in time for Homero to wonder why the women refused to talk. Well, you have
the reputation of a rough man, Leo suggests, maybe they’re scared of you.
Besides, it’s they’re personal matter.
Nope, it’s my personal matter too, Homero says, since
I’ve decided to make it mine; they are alone and completely terrified, with
only Ric to protect them. Have you seen his fashion choices? He can’t handle that
many problems at a time.
And, since they’re not going to the police, it must
mean they are hiding something.
Fabiola and Piero are talking about JL’s stubbornness
to let go of Oriana. Then the talk turns to Fabiola’s fear that her mother will
force her to marry Sebass – she doesn’t want to, but she might say yes just to
get her mom off her back. Piero encourages her: nobody can force you to do
anything that you don’t want to do. And besides, don’t forget that you are not
alone, you have Paloma, Ric, Oriana, me… Fabiola smiles and gives him a kiss on
the check. He looks like he just touched the Heaven.
Ruben arrives to see Madhilde. She’s upset because
he hasn’t showed up all day, he starts to explain some work related delay. Not
that Mady cares about any of that, she harshly cuts him off, wondering once
again about Paloma and Fabiola’s whereabouts. Now that their cell phones are
turned off too, she doesn’t know what to do. She absolutely has to talk to
Fabiola, convince her to marry Sebass. Or, if not, have an abortion. Ruben is
shocked that she’d consider this possibility, but Mady explains that she’s just
trying to solve the situation. Unlike the rest of her family, who seems to be
lost, she’s trying to stay firm.
Fabiola is telling Marilu that she no longer loves
Sebass, not after all the bad things that he’s told her after she mentioned the
pregnancy. Marilu thinks that if she doesn’t want to keep the baby, she should hurry;
or, if she does, she can always take care of it alone – that doesn’t mean that
she won’t be able to find a man to love.
But Fabiola doesn’t think anyone would want her with
a baby; but she can’t bring herself to decide to get rid of it, either, because
she feels like she’d be denying its right to live.
Marilu thinks that both Piero and Leo are good
candidates for being a step baby daddy. (Even if Fabiola is not involved with
any of them and men should be the last thing on her mind right now. Only in a
telenovela…)
Alina has found out from Ric that Tito wasn’t dead,
he was just hurt and a doctor was taking good care of him. She’s afraid her dad
might hurt Tito again. Oriana assures her that won’t happen. FF…
Paloma doesn’t want to eat, she asks her nurse to
take her food away. When Oriana and Ric come to visit her in her room she
explains that Fidelia left (“that woman talks a lot”) and she’d very much like
to finish with this “on the run” situation and go back home.
Apparently, the most important problem they might
have if they leave is that Fabiola will be upset they’re not holding her party
at the beach house anymore!!! Would she like a party in Hermosillo just the
same?
Finally the conversation becomes more serious;
Paloma thinks they can’t stay away forever, Ric has a job to get to and she
misses her house (Excuse me if I’m wrong, but what part of this whole plan didn’t
she get? Did she think they’ll be gone for the weekend and be back in
Hermosillo as soon as Oriana gets a nice tan?)
Ricardo asks her not to worry about work, Piero is
taking care of everything at the plant. Oriana thinks they should tell Homero
the entire truth. Ric and Paloma think he should only be told the strictly necessary
(which is...?); but Oriana is ready to go to jail – the moment of truth has
arrived.
Raquel is warning JL not to tell Lucina that he knows
from her about Oriana being followed by an investigator. At least the guy doesn’t
know anything about Ines – therefor, thinks that Jose Luis Falcon is dead, too.
They both conclude that it’s still too risky, Alina might say something. So JL
decides he needs to meet with Oriana, decide on the story to tell. And he knows
where Oriana is hiding.
Lucina is talking with Ruben and Cesar about Maddy’s
intention to force Fabiola into marriage. Lucina is shocked, but Raquel comes
home, acting suspicious, so Lucina goes after her to see what’s up.
Ruben takes advantage of the fact that they are
alone, to tell Cesar that Maddy thinks he’s gay; but he’s not, right? No, of
course not, Cesar explains. Then, why doesn’t he get a girlfriend?
Cesar warns his father not to meddle in his private
life.
Lucina asks Raquel what’s wrong with her, but Raquel
is just fine – and her relationship with JL is good, too, especially now that
he forgot all about Oriana and Alina. Lucina
advises her associate to be careful with JL, but Raquel cheerfully points out
that this is not her first rodeo – she can handle herself very well. But Lucina
SHOULD be careful not to anger JL, by talking with Manolo, the cop, for example.
Lucina gets upset JL knows about that, she realizes she can no longer trust
Raquel (You think?)
Oriana, Ric and Alina talk about Tito’s
rehabilitation program. Alina has to take good care of the doggy. FF…
Homero is video-chatting with one of his sources and
digging up dirt on JL. Leo comes in to ask what he found out. Apparently there
are no documents about Jose Luis Falcon in Colombia, no photos and no finger prints,
either. If he didn’t die in that fire, he probably managed to escape to some
island, like Tahiti, got a fake passport and went to Santo Domingo.
Ric and Oriana have another talk about how much
information they should reveal to Homero. He thinks the Fake Ines bit should be
kept a secret, he can even say he falsified her passport if that will mean not
losing her. (Desperate much, Ricardo? What would you gain if you both end up in
jail? Think with your head, boy. The one on your shoulders.)
They are interrupted by a guard calling from the
gate –Raquel is visiting, apparently with a message from Lucina. Ric and Oriana
wonder how come Raquel knew where to find them, maybe Mariano said something?
Raquel doesn’t want to get inside, she wants Oriana to come out. Ric agrees just
as long as he goes, too.
They both get out of the gated property and go
inside the car. They notice it’s JL’s vehicle, just as we see him looking at
them, hidden behind a wall somewhere further away.
Raquel explains that JL gave her the car so she can
deliver a present – and she gives Oriana the box containing the gun!
Then she just starts the car and drives off, while
both Ric and Oriana interject and the guards just look on.
The car stops not long after, in the middle of the road,
where JL is waiting, ready for a confrontation.
Ric gets out of the car, the men stare at each other
– all they’re missing are the smoking guns for this to turn into a Wild Wild
West story.
But JL doesn’t want to shut anybody, he just wants
to talk to “Ines”. He decided to give her the gun back as a sign of good will;
he wants to help her prove she didn’t kill anybody.
And how is Ric supposed to explain to the police the
fact that he has the gun?
Well, JL can’t do all the work, right? Ric has to
think of an explanation on his own.
Oriana reminds JL that she doesn’t want to go back
to him; but JL only wants to find a solution for both of them to stay far away
from a jail cell. So how about if they talked about it?
Oriana and Ricardo reluctantly agree and they all
get inside the car.
Back at Fidelia’s house, Piero is told that Raquel
came to see Oriana, apparently with a message from Lucina. He calls Lucina, who
know nothing. Then Lucina calls Raquel, who doesn’t pick up the phone. Piero
calls Ric who does answer, but plays it casual, saying he and Oriana decided to
take a walk in the village and they’ll be back soon enough.
In the meantime, the four of them have settled at a
table on a terrace. Oriana doesn’t want to have Alina lie again, she prefers to
surrender to the police; this doesn’t sound too good to Raquel, who is afraid
for her own skin, more than anything else.
Just as the talk is about to get interesting, Homero
and Leo show up at the same terrace. Homero decides something fishy is going on
with the four people sitting not far away, staring at one another. Leo seems to
remember the blond woman from the time he saved Oriana and the man she’s with her
is the same guy he met in the park.
Homero decides to crash the party by joining the
foursome. He makes himself comfortable, asks for a coffee, makes small talk
about the weather, and basically starts nosing around to see what gives. With Oriana
looking terrified and Ric uncomfortable, the charade continues: JL plays along,
introduces himself as Francisco Castro, Alina’s father; no, he and Ines were
never married but they just got back in contact not long ago and decided to
give it one more try.
This is all that Ricardo and Oriana can take; they
decide to leave, and Raquel joins them to the car to give Oriana her gift – the
gun.
Alone with Fauxcisco, Homero wonders if maybe Ines
was upset.
Well, she is upset because they broke up, JL
explains, even if he loves her and their daughter very much. And why is it that
you broke up, Homero asks. Because Ines was a drug addict. As Raquel comes back
at the table and Homero further inquires, JL explains that he’s working for an investment
company. When it’s his turn to ask questions, Homero doesn’t even say his name;
he’s just a bored old man, call him Don Nadie (Mr. Nobody).
Oriana is upset because of this new lie JL just
told, but Ric thinks at least they gained some time. He’s still not sure how
they can explain the gun to the police, though.
Arriving home, Ric urges Oriana to tell Paloma and
Alina about the new development – JL’s new lie. But Oriana doesn’t seem very
eager to tell Alina that her father’s name is now Francisco Castro and they
never lived in Colombia.
When she calms down a little and leaves, Ric is left
alone with the gun which killed his father – a teas falls down his cheek.
After Homero and Leo leave, JL notices their car is
bullet proof. Raquel, who is a very lame and bland villain, thinks all rich
folks have them. JL knows better, though, he especially wonders why Leo didn’t
mention their run in at the park.
At the same time Homero is telling Leo that he’s
sure Francisco Castro was lying to them – it was enough to look at Ines and Ric’s
disturbed faces to realize that. Besides, the guy offered too much information
considering the fact that he was a perfect stranger to him.
Fabiola and Piero are walking on the beach. He tells
her he won’t be able to attend her party because he has to go back to
Hermosillo – someone has to work at the plant. (True that!) He gives her a
present, though – a bracelet. Also, he kind of proposes to her; he acknowledges
the fact that he’s older than she is, but he’s willing to protect her and the baby;
he cares for her, he likes her, he even says te quiero (not te amo,
though). She doesn’t have to answer right away, but she should think about it.
Fabiola seems lost for words but I think she’s also seriously
considering his proposition – this could solve a lot of problems for her.

Homero sure is shaking things up. Loved how he just plopped down at the table with JL and crew. Great cat and mouse game between him and JL.
Both Ricky and Paloma are only thinking about their wants and their needs when it comes to Oriana right now. They want Ori by their side, and so they can't stand the idea of her going to jail for any time. But she's right. It's time to face the music, bring everything to light, serve time for the identity theft, get a great lawyer and have faith that they can get her out of the murder charge. If she comes clean, then JL will no longer have any power over her or them.
Plus, asking Lina to lie again would just be awful, and clearly Ori is not cut out for living a lie. The woman is starting to fall apart under the pressure.

This program doesn't belong at 7PM. I can't begin to imagine what drove that decision.
Tito is such a sweet little dog. He deserves to not have to encounter JL, who will be in a lot of hot water soon. I also hope Homero doesn't inadvertently cause any problems, but this is only the middle of the series.
Robo should be up in the AM. I'm waiting for Gloria's part so both hours can be posted together (I did the second hour).

Urban- Glad you had help on your double episode. There was a LOT to cover in that show.
All in all, I'm pleased with the three tns currently on-- Mentir, Siempre, and Robo. Tonight all three were very good.

Superb recap Adriana Noel. You, Cyndy and Jardinera are thorough and great for a laugh. Love the line about only in a TN would Fabiola have three men wanting to wife her up after she gets preggers. I'm only half way disgusted by the Pier/Fabi pairing because even Piero realizes it's ridiculous-he keeps emphasizing that he knows he's old enough to be her father but he can't help how he feels. I think once he sees that Leo is a good choice for Fabi he'll back off.
ITA with you Vivi about Oriana facing the music. I don't think she should go to jail but I think to get JL off her back she needs to turn herself in. I've thought this since Paloma found out she wasn't Ines and still accepted her as her nieta. Ric, Paloma and Mariano can serve as great character witnesses for Oriana before any court that she's a great mother, a trustworthy person and not a criminal since two out of three of her 'crimes' involve them as victims-the identity theft, and Gabriel's murder. If Ori's victims can forgive her, the justice system can too. I think, at most, she should get a three months in jail and two years probation if we're interested in fulfilling the letter of the law about her identity theft. Ric and Paloma need to realize their power and position can be useful to acquit Oriana as well hide her.

I don't know why this tn is at 7, either. It's the most serious one out of the bunch.
However, this gives me the time to post the recaps quickly after you watch. For me it's already 2 a.m. when I'm done with it, but I prefer it that way because this gives me the next day off (sort of).
And hey, what Caray blogger hasn't stayed up half the night trying to turn romantic tn entanglements into something that makes a bit of sense in the real world?
This tn is actually pretty good in keeping it as real as possible, but I do have a problem with how fast they talk. Hard to keep up when recapping.
But I much rather have it this way than teh same repetitive dialogue over and over again. No puede ser!

Sara, Fabi/ Piero don't make me feel too weird, either. I actually find his attachement to her mor erealistic than Leo liking someone he just met knowing that she's pregnant and in a lot of troubles.

The drug question is the one of most important question in the northern states of Mexico, i would like to see showing in the tn's of televisa, but i think it would be too realistic for televisa. But here is the opportunity, if joaquin's dirt money would come from drug trade with sonorense cartels.
Ric, don't be stupid! If both of us will in jail, it isn't good, because male and female prisons are in other places, and in the jail have no chance for making love. And for ricky and ori it is a very important thing, mainly for our hero.

Adriana this was a great recap and very funny too. Gramps is really throwing everyone for a loop. In the end, I trust everything will be ok, but b/t him and Oriana's resignation to going to jail, I think hard time may be in the future.

Right now my favorite adult human character is Homero. This guy quietly dominates every situation he inserts himself into. There have been discussions on Caray Caray about alpha males from time to time. I submit that first and foremost, a true alpha male never gives a thought as to whether he is an alpha male or not... he's too busy just being one. I submit that Homero is the genuine alpha male in this TN.

The writers have taken a chance in bringing our lovable buttinsky Homero into every situation. But geez, given that the Scoobies don't know much about international intrigue and aren't nearly as diabolical as JL, we really need a character who can match him. I am getting a kick out of Homero, even though the whole premise of this former intelligence chief throwing himself into just about everything is a little odd.
I like Piero, don't think he will end up with Fabiola and appreciate how desperately happy she was to see a possible alternative to Sebass forming. Poor girl, with that terrible mother who is well played by the actress but just never stops.
Inez/Oriana looks so pretty with her hair in a more natural style. And JL is one handsome guy, if very poor husband or even boyfriend material.

I too thought that Homero inviting himself to coffee at the cafe was hilarious. Everyone was obviously uncomfortable and he just charged on, judging everyones reaction to his questions and watching the chips fall. He now knows from how they answered and how they reacted that JL and Castro are the same person, Oriana and Ines are the same person. Oriana is right. They should just trust him to tell him everything.
Also, I think that Piero's offer to Fabiola will give Fabiola a way out from her mother insisting she marry Sebastian if she needs one when the time comes.
But there's too much moony eyes between her and Leo for Fabiola to ultimately marry Piero. And since Piero just recently got divorced, he clearly isn't good at making relationship decisions.
I was surprised that JL gave the gun to Oriana without any strings attached. Now she has it to help her case. And Raquel is so idiotic if she thinks she's going to end up with him.

Fabi needs to grow a back bone. How sad that she knows she is weak enough to give into her mother's demand that she marry an abusive jerk. Piero's offer does at least offer her a stalling device once Mati gets ahold of her.
I also think it's funny how Paloma has gone into cranky old lady mode and wants to get back to her house, her bed, etc. My dad gets cranky about having his familiar things around him too and not leaving his home for extended periods of time. so her crankiness makes me laugh. He turns 75 today. Obviously, Paloma just saw this as a mini vacation, and not the permanent state of things.

Vivi, plus she isn't above using a convenient swoon from time to time to avoid a little unpleasantness or a turn in the conversation that doesn't suit her. Sort of a sachet version of Fred Sanford.

Tito is back, Ricky and Alina get along well, and Paloma has a great nurse, so this is the best time for Ori to be locked up. Plus lucky for her, Ori has a boyfriend and faux-granny with plenty of money to pay for her protection in prison. It'd be worth it just to see the look on JL's face when he loses his leverage.
I think Piero is semi-depressed. Beyond his age, he is not right for Fabi. She needs to focus on her baby, school, and a fun, carefree, but thoughtful boyfriend (Leo) -- in that order.

I usually like the bad guys. I don't really like any one in this novella. None of them are over the top evil and they all have a plausible reason to be angry. I wanna say, yeah I can see why you would be bitter about that. Wait... I take that back. I really like Berto. I miss him. He was just greedy.

Madhilde is just one of those mothers that care more about what people think than the happiness of her children, husband, etc. Too bad for her & her family, she drives them all away. And other people don't give a crap, if they do, so what?
So, you will think me crazy, but I have often wondered if Raquel worries about getting a sexually transmitted disease with the way she fools around.
Maybe I just worry about things like that and women like Raquel don't.
