REINA

Muchas gracias deb, for all the xtras. I searched for that location you showed in the picture of Teresa in front of a seaside tower and yes, it is the Lighthouse of Melilla located on the shoreline at the entrance to the harbor. Google it and it will lead you to some great photos of the area.

I also love looking up these places.

As for last night's episode, I shut my eyes and blocked my ears during Lalo's terrible tortures. Great that Tere got to jump back into Santi's arms. Of course they couldn't separate them for too long at this point in the story. And Soraya mustered enough brain power (surprisingly) to finger Dris as the rat. I'm kind of liking the solidarity among the girls. But now that Santiago has a better job offer, does this mean that he & la Reina will ditch Melilla for the mainland?

REINA

Deb:

Thanks for posting those links.

I couldn't watch the torture of poor Lalo. It was so sad when Soraya went to visit him in Morocco. I don't think her heart is in her job anymore.

It was sweet to see Santiago and Teresa reunite after a month. It's sad though that she is leaving Melilla behind, although I am very glad she is getting away from Dris.

Speaking of Dris, isn't he cutting his own throat? Does Chaib even know what Dris did? Wait until he finds out. I wouldn't want to be Dris.

Teresa truly has no illusions about herself or her life. She is gonna live it on her terms. I think she is facing what she didn't with El Guerro. As far as life is short, death can come anytime, etc. She has moxie, that's for sure.

I wonder if the Chaib will face any consequences after Lalo sang like a bird. Probably not. He owns a lot of people it seems. That prison official sure was nervous visiting Chaib.

I can't wait to see what this new phase for Teresa and Santiago will be.

Enjoyed your comments LXV and Madelaine. Too swamped with work to write much more.

But Dris Larbi truly does have, as I believe Fátima said, a very black heart.

I guess in the back of his twisted mind, he thought that he'd get Santiago arrested by the Moroccans and Teresa would then turn to him as her love interest. As if.

REINA

Deb - Thanks for the links.

I thought Dris was all about money, and I guess Teresa did too. I think it was Teresa's crack about him not being on her list that made him stupid enough to blab on Santiago, impacting Chaib.

They didn't show it, but even the sound effect of Lalo's tongue getting cut was too much for me.

REINA MARTES

I really enjoyed NovelaMaven's intro to the week and also Hombre's recap.

Wow, I was surprised that Chaib again offered Santiago a job. I am very glad Santiago turned him down. I was really surprised by Teresa's good-bye to Chaib and her goodbye to Dris. Chaib was actually a gentleman with her and Dris, he had a puzzled type of face in a way.

Teresa was right on the money about the Russians. What an interesting mix of languages this TN has.

Patty and Jimmy are a pair aren't they? One step ahead, but just barely. And Patty is bi-sexual, first time I've seen that in a TN.

I liked Santiago showing Teresa how to navigate the boat and how to fix it. That Coast Guard helicopter was way too close for comfort. Now let's see how their first run goes.

Reina,

during the original showing I did a little look around on hashish and this is what I found, (if anyone is interested)

http://foro.telenovela-world.com/n4/read-t.php?f=795&i=1967&t=1967#reply_1967

this really helped me to understand the Colonel better, and Santiago's part, and later when I looked at Sinaloa, there seemed to me to be some similarities as well.

the Lalo scenes were hard for me to watch even this second time around, but they really bring to life the world Teresa is living in.

btw, Ezequiel Montalt (Jaime 'Jimmy' Arenas w/ Pati) is currently playing George in "Santa Diabla", and it's like it's the same character, ha!, he never gets things right.

It just amazes me how interesting this novela is the second time around. I find myself looking forward to scenes that I know are about to take place.

For example, last night, I remembered Santiago and Teresa going to Gibraltar to meet with Eddie, his lawyer and money launderer. I enjoyed what Teresa said to him just as much as the first time, and even played it a couple of times.

Eddie: (Condescendingly to the "Aztec Princess") "Say something. Don't you have a tongue".

Teresa: Si lo tengo. Soy la novia de Santiago y su socio. Y estoy esperando que explique lo de infrastructura de minimo y lo que hace con nuestro dinero.

I also immensely enjoyed Dris' discomfiture when Teresa tried to resign in private, but he was rude to her, I think, because of his jealousy at seeing her enter with Santiago. So she resigned in front of the whole bar.

And I could watch that scene over and over where Santiago and Teresa (in Algeciras) exchange rear end squeezes and mutually agree that the other has a fabulous rear end. These two are just an amazingly believable couple.

If nothing else, what a wonderful travelog,I want to go to ALL those places.
Drugs seem to be a problem everywhere, legalize them and stop the madness.

I was also surprised to see George from Santa Diabla, Ezequiel Montalt, ck him out, he is a very talented guy.

Vario, I'm with you. I'm looking at plane fares (in my dreams). I'll probably just walk the streets on Google Maps, if they let me. Amazing the places that are NOT covered with street views. Many of them are in Africa. But you CAN visit a lot of places, virtually.

¿Dónde está Elisa? pt 1

(May not be in order….)

Maliano (Marianos new name!) is scum. He cheats on his wife with his secretary Isabel Rios.
When the police break in Alberto Venturas home the police find a pay-as-you-go phone (Reason his phone address could not be located) and a picture of him shaking hands with Maliano. When confronted with the evidence Maliano says he was manipulated by Ventura. It sounds like Maliano cooked up a scheme and when he got caught threw Ventura under the bus.

We learn that Cristobals boss is his ex suegro, Nestor Salazar. He says he doesn’t blame Cris for his daughter’s death but he thinks she made a mistake in marrying him. Cris seems to suffer nightmares about entering some sort of house.

Dana doesn’t trust Santi very much. She and Cris go to the high school and learn that Elisa had been skipping school. Cris thinks Santi may be behind this since he lied before. When he shows up at Casa Rincon, Santi is smoking a joint. Brisenio finds a pot plant in the garden.

Santi is interrogated but denies that he would ever hurt Elisa

The tables later turn when Casa Caceres in searched and Eddys shirt is found with Elisas blood. He admits he argued with her on the beach. (He proclaimed his love to her, she didn’t love him. He tried to kiss her. She falls near some rocks scraping her arm. She slaps him and runs off.)

The next day, the Bruno, Ceci, J.A., and Vivi complain to Maliano about their boys being interrogated. He says Santiago is a liar and that Eddy had blood in his shirt and a lock of Elisas hair.

The newspapers come out with Eddy and Santi on the headlines. The L.A.P.D. is furious Cris thinks one of his team members leaked confidential info. He wants that person to report to his office. Gisela shows up at his house instead and admits she did it!

Cris is disappointed in her. Gisela says she didn’t mean to. (The two of them were eating at a restaurant discussing the case when she realized 2 men sitting on the opposite table were reporters. She shut up immediately but too late. The reporters got what they wanted. ) Cris doesn’t kick her out of the team, despite Salazar threating to kick him off as well.

Ceci starts an argument with Isabel when she finds out about the affair with Maliano and demands that he help Eddy and fire Isabel. Maliano doesn’t want to because he lied. “And you never lied at all?” Ceci asks. “What are you talking about?” “I’m talking about you cheating on Dana with your secretary!” Maliano denies this and calls Ceci crazy. Nico takes Ceci to her office. She is upset at her brother but Nico reminds her that she is doing the same thing to Bruno.

Vivi finds out that Ricky is gay and is upset. She complains to J.A. at the dinner table. But they hide Rickys homosexuality from Santi.

¿Dónde está Elisa?

Dana and Cris meet up at the cantina and she talks about how powerless she feels. He tells her that he understands “he feels” what she feels. When asked if he has children Cristibal replies that he had a wife and daughter. But now they’re dead.

After a lunch meeting, Ceci and Nico do the deed. Ceci cries out “I love you!” After their romp Nico tells Ceci that she never said that to him before. Ceci says some things should never be said.

Casa Altamira gets prank calls from girls who claim to be Elisa.

Bruno soon suspects that Ceci is cheating after a sexy text from Nico......

(More to come on friday. This is overdue im sorry)

REINA MIERCOLES

I really liked Teresa's dressing down of Eddie the banker. I was laughing when he called her doll and she called me doll right back. Loved how he so misjudged her. Eddie is one slimy dude!

It is interesting about Gibraltar as long as the drugs don't end up in England the drug runners are given a pass. Everybody was at that bar Teresa and Santiago went to, the cops, that pilot from the helicopter, other drug runners. I'm glad Teresa and Santiago made it even though it looked like touch and go there for awhile.

So this Yasilev, the head Russian mob guy was in the KGB? He is no one to mess with.

I am liking the cops in this one. Very smart. Also like the reporter, he sure knows everyone.

Good to see Fatima again, but I swear Dris is stalking Teresa. He looked like a broken old man coming off the boat. Does anyone know what Teresa was mouthing at Dris as he was coming off the boat? She just moved her lips at him.

LA MADRASTRA

Variopinta:

I know you've seen this one. What did you think? I am watching it on Univision's Telenovela and Series Channel. I liked Maria's confrontation with all the suspects of Patricia's murder. Alba is the worst though, ugh! Does she have a thing for Esteban her own nephew? It sure looks like she does whenever she caresses his shoulder.

I have to laugh every time Bruno comes on the screen, it looks like he wears more makeup than Fabiola his wife, lol. That eyeliner is too funny.

Ana Martin's character, Socorro, does she own a flower stand? Is that tall guy her husband or just a boyfriend?

I am liking a lot of the actors in this one. Carlos' father broke my heart when he was crying when Carlos was leaving. The same actor was in "Dinero".

Madelaine
I only saw La Madrastra on The Soup, which was enough for me.

Variopinta:

Oh, I thought you had seen it : ) It really is snarkily funny. Those were the only two things I was confused about. The rest of the story really is good. I can see why it became the most watched telenovela of it's time. The murder mystery alone is really good. Too bad it was before the time of Caray Caray, the recappers would have had a field day with Rene Casados' character alone ; )

REINA - MARTES

Kind of sad that Santiago couldn't even visit Lalo as they were longtime friends, but I guess that's realistic. Also sad to me that Teresa burned Guero's photo. She'll never have that innocence again.

Whoa, male viewers got an eyefull with Patty braless in the sheer blouse. So she hits on every woman she sees.

I'll miss the ladies of Yamila.

Yep, Patti is amazing. You first-time viewers are going to love her character as she develops.

The things that Santiago was telling Teresa in the bar were interesting. She told him that, if the guys in the bar just had sombreros and boots, they could be guys from Sinaloa. He told her that the big difference was the insistence on the rights of even persons accused of crimes in Spain. He called her attention to the fact that neither the customs boat or the helicopter fired on them.

And there was a sort of a sense of a fun game of cat and mouse in that both officials and smugglers drink in the same bar and all know each other!

Oh, another interesting fact from when the novela ran the first time. The guy in the bar who plays the helicopter pilot is a REAL LIVE Spanish helicopter pilot who does exactly that same job in real life. If I remember correctly, they used him as a consultant to find out how to do the scenes correctly and ended up just having him fly and also appear as himself in other scenes.

After last night (Thursday) is there anyone not in love with Santiago? I'm mean sure, he's a drug smuggler, but still. Swoon.

And Fatima is adorable. I want only good things for her.

Kelly

Well, I'm certainly crazy about Santiago Fisterra. The guy just drips sexy. And his character flaws just make him more interesting: By that I mean jealousy of El Güero. The scene where he and Teresa fight about that seemed so completely believable and exactly the way couples who love each other DO fight.

Awful to see Dris in Algeciras. The actor did a fabulous job in this role. He's obsessed with Teresa and can't let it go.

Reina

wow, those Russians sure are mean!

for the virtual travelers, I think where George and Pati were hiding out was in Jerez de la Frontera.

some original comments from an earlier post, by novelera,
Kate del Castillo,
"The steel in her that will make her La Reina del Sur is shown when she goes right after Santiago, whom she really does love, when he dares to try getting her to say he's a better lover than El Güero. She fires at him that El Güero didn't need to ask; he knew he was the best."
and
"I think she just wanted to live from day to day with Santiago. Thinking ahead scares her."
always love your comments novelera!

I too really like Fatima, what a wonderful friend she is?
(btw, Fatima is.... "is an Arabic female given name, commonly used among Muslims. Fatimah was the name of the favorite daughter of the prophet Muhammad, she was his only child to bear children.")
the actress is Mónica Estarreado

and yes, Nacho Fresneda, as Dris Larby, such an interesting character,
they did such a wonderful job casting for this show.

and

this is a post at TW where I think I got the words to the theme song right, with a link to the band talking about narcocorridos.

http://foro.telenovela-world.com/n4/read-t.php?f=795&i=2179&t=2175#reply_2179

I just received the bk, in English & it grabs your attention from the 1st page. Can't wait 'til I catch up with the TN. So far things are the same.

I don't read many bks anymore, because I can't concentrate, my mind wanders & I have to read a page over & over, but not this one.

The group is Los cuates de Sinaloa, they sound like the same group that did the song in El señor de los cielos.

Reina

such a sad show last night,

anyway, as novelera pointed out,
both Oscar Lobato, the journalist, and Javier Collado, the helicopter pilot, are real people and acquaintances of Arturo Pérez-Reverte, who wrote the book, (but I'm not 100% sure they played the parts because the cast list has other names), but I do know from what Cristina Urgel (Pati) and Kate said, Javier was flying the helicopter in the shots, and it was close.

more on them here,

REINA - VIERNES

I'm shocked that Santiago got killed off so soon. They never showed his body. Maybe he drifted ashore and is being healed by a root woman, but I guess that's another TN. I will miss the Teresa-Santiago joy. Surely eventually Teresa will have a new man, but he's got a very tough act to follow after Santiago and El Güero. I wouldn't want to be that actor. :D

Maybe part of Teresa handling Santiago's death as she did is because at least he died doing what he loved and won't be locked up. Her own reaction upon seeing her cell seemed realistic to me.

Dris is a strange bird. He knows he'll never be on Teresa's list and just wants to see her suffer. I feel like he secretly hates everybody - Teresa, women, Chaib, Caceres.

Isn't there a social worker code of not divulging information between clients? Patty seemed very cozy with the social worker, but I suppose Patty has ways of getting cozy with and information from everyone.

Mayoqui, do your best but right now you're a well-worn cliché.

Reina
I saw Santiago's body, washed up in some rocks with a bloody gash on his head.

I'm at the part in the book where Teresa insists on going on a drug run with Santiago, not sure if this is the fatal one.
