Jean, Since there is so little traffic at our site on the weekend I wonder if people wait for the week beginning to catch Friday recap. It is a bit of work to scroll back to the week before to read the recap. It might generate some comments from lurkers.

What do you think of copying the Friday recap at the week start, or jotting its highlights on the week beginning. I think you do highlights some of the time already.

Monday - Part 1

Santa talks to her captive and says that she is Fran's death. Santa accuses her of killing Vicente. Fran swears on her children that she didn't kill Vicente. Santa seizes the opportunity to ask her about the child she abandoned. Fran concludes it was Santa who has been calling her and hanging up.

Ulises tells his suspicions about Vicky's disappearance to Pancho while Pat is listening. Ulises wonders why Vicky hasn't called? He tells Pancho that he thinks Patricio might be involved because he doesn't seem to be concerned that his wife is gone and Patricio is also evasive about his job. Pancho offers to find out about Patricio.

Santi tells Inés that a woman came to the house said that he is married to a woman named Inés. He says that the woman was aggressive and had an eye patch. Bert advises Inés to get out of the country with Santi.

Pat has scurried over to the Trebol de Oro. He pulls out a gun on Vicky and threatens to kill Ulises if she talks. Pat then tells Vicky that he is sending her back home. Tránsito is happy for Vicky.

Santa taunts Fran about abandoning her dead daughter.

Pancho promises Ulises that he will investigate Patricio and then Vicky comes home.

Mara comes home and asks Elisa what it was that Lázaro wanted to tell her. Is it true that Elisa is in a relationship with Lázaro? Elisa admits that she is. She tells Mara that she fought against her feelings but couldn't resist. Mara tells her that she doesn't care about Elisa's relationship with Lázaro. What hurts her is that Elisa didn't trust her. Elisa says that didn't want to give Mara more pain. Mara tells Elisa to leave her house.

Paula comes to visit Willy in the hospital and tells him that he has to get better.

A drunk George tries to rape Babs. Ivan interrupts and Babs tells him to call the police.

A dressed-up Santa tells Diabla (who is having pizza again) that she has a plan to save Santiago.
Diabla asks why Santa is not out looking for Santi? Santa tell her that being with Santi now would make her weak. She says that she is going to make Narcoguy pay for what he did.

Pat pretends to be happy to see Vicky. She won't say where she has been.

NarcoGuy waits for Santa at a restaurant. She comes in.

Ulises brings Vicky's suitcase upstairs. She tells him not to say anything and gives him a note to Ulises while babbling about her wonderful trip.

Santi calls his mom but she doesn't answer because she's still tied up.

Inés gets a call from Diabla. The caller asks are you Inés or Santa? The caller says that she is Inés' worst enemy. She knows that Inés shot at Santa and hit Willy - Inés hangs up.

 

Monday - Part 2

Ulises gives the paper that Vicky wrote to Pancho who says that nothing will happen to his sister (uh oh).

Bert & Lisette come in to the restaurant. NarcoGuy says that he is leaving Marrero but that Bert and Lisette are part of his partida.

Elisa sadly leaves Mara's house with memories. Mara cries.

Pancho tells Cifuentes to get a search warrant for the Trebol de Oro. Ivan runs in (why didn't he call 911?) to report that George attacked Babs. Uh oh there are two crimes happening at once in Marrerro.

NarcoGuy gives Santa the keys to a house in Mexico and tells her that they are going to Mexico.

Pancho tells Ivan that Vicky is back.

At the restaurant Bert is jealous of NarcoGuy's moves on Santa and Lisette is bitchy. NarcoGuy's proposes to Santa. Bert objects and NarcoGuy's goons pull their guns. Santa tells NarcoGuy that she'll think about the proposal. NarcoGuy is reluctant but allows Santa to leave. The NarcoGuy says that dinner over without anyone getting a bite. Lisette demands an explanation from Bert as to what is going on.

Daniela wants to know what is going on in the house. Babs tells her to pack her bags; they are leaving George's house.

Ivan comes to see Vicky. He says that she won't escape from him again.

Santa returns to see Fran in the basement. Santa asks Fran mother to mother how she could abandon her own baby because the baby had a birth defect. Fran says that she couldn't stand looking at her - the shame. Santa puts a knife to Fran's face asks what if it was her that had a face deformity. Would her family reject her and make a fake grave for her.

Ivan kisses Vicky. Pat comes in and he and Ulises start fighting. Vicky faints and then tells Ivan to leave.

Fran begs Santa not to cut her. Santa says she wanted Fran to beg. She orders her not to tell anyone what happened. Santa unties Fran and she leaves. Santi calls Mom and Santa finds phone showing that Santi is calling.

So Santa didn't go to see Santi because she loves him too much and he makes her weak. I guess that's correct, but she had just found out he was ALIVE, it's not like he had just gotten back from a trip.
If the man I loved (in the crazed, tn protagonista way) returned from the dead I think I'd be able to forget my venganza for a minute or two and go hug him.

As surprised as I was about Santa kidnapping Fran, I have to say I loved how she scared her at the end. I do wonder what Santi will think when he finds out his beloved tortured his mamma.

Why did Franco invite Bert and gf at his proposal dinner or whatever that was? If what he wanted to do was twist Santa's arm into accepting him, did he need witnesses? Or he thinks she'll accept him willingly? Have they even kissed?

Jean, you're right about the pizza, Diabla needs to learn how to cook - maybe Elisa could teach her that, too.

I found Mara's reaction a little bit too much - I understand her reasons to be upset, but Elisa shouldn't need to wait to be thrown out to find her own place, she should do this regardless of who she's sleeping with.
And when exactly was the right time to tell Mara she was bonking her ex?

wow, thanks so much Jean,

I actually thought it was clever of Franco to invite his partner to dinner, (loved watching Lisette), and when he started unveiling his plans for Santa, you could just see the little knives at work in Humberto's gut, and Santa almost agreed just to watch Humberto suffer.

so, did I get this right, Santa's plan does not include Diabla, didn't she tell her "no questions", and Alicia's plan does not include Santa, hmm, how will this work out.

I thought it strange that Santiago was asking Ines, who Ines was, but I guess he wanted some info on who Alicia was,

hmm, Barbara is being raped so Ivan RUNS over to the police station to report it, finds out Victoria is in town, then runs over to her house, at least the police arrived and were questioning George, I suppose he will explain their marriage spat, but since no one knows Santa gave Barbara her new face I'm surprised they didn't just haul him off, and I wonder if it was that beat-up face that got George so aroused in the first place.

I wonder what Victoria wrote and gave to Ulises, and then read by Pancho, who decides to raid the Golden Clover.

I guess Lucy has had the house all to herself, is this where Barbara plans to go?

I love the symmetry of the Dos Diablas -- Santa takes on Alicia's target, Fran, and Alicia takes on Santa's target, Inés.

I'd like to see Lisette dragged along on dates like last night's for the rest of her life -- dates where she is ignored, unfed, and has to put up with being in Santa's shadow.

I suppose Franco wanted Humberto there so he could rub his nose in the fact that he, Franco, was appropriating the Alpha Female, Santa.

It will be immensely satisfying if Santa is able to set in motion a DEA take-down of Franco and his thugs.

I also thought that Mara was unduly hard on her mother. I suppose they will get past this rift in their relationship though. Maybe what got to Mara was having to get the news from the odious Lisette.

It looks like we were writing at the same time and wondering about some of the same points.

Maybe Santi wanted to see if Inés could shed some light on the mysterious one-eyed woman, but I also think he wanted to see her squirm when he asked her who Inés was.

Count me among those who thought Mara's reaction was excessive. I thought that Elisa's argument that Mara had so many things going wrong that she [Elisa] didn't want to add to her distress.

NovelaMaven, I too thought that Santiago asked Inés "Who is Inés Robledo?" mostly just to see her squirm.

Though I've enjoyed seeing Santa be more forceful/aggressive, my enjoyment is somewhat spoiled by the fact that I just don't buy her instant Wonder Woman transformation. She had at most a day or two of "training" before Diabla left, hardly enough for her to have acquired all her martial arts skills and strength. Oh well, time to buy a high-tech beanie.
 

Drat, I wish we could edit our posts. I just read the one I just posted and realized I had neglected to finish a sentence. What I meant to say was "I thought Elisa's argument that Mara had so many things going wrong that she [Elisa] didn't want to add to her distress made a good deal of sense." Hmmm...what awkward wording! Blech. I probably should have just left it unfinished....

 

Thanks everyone. I watched the capitulo at breakfast, took some notes and actually wrote the recap while I was sitting in a meeting! Nobody asked what I was typing away there on my iPad but I was participating in the meeting, too. Rare is the meeting that requires my full attention.

I also thought Mara was being a little hard on Elisa but it would be awkward to have Lázaro bopping into Mom's room every night.

Novela Maven: I loved your comment about wanting to see Lisette on more dates where she is, "ignored, unfed and has to put up with being in Santa's shaddow."
 

Thanks, Jean, I loved your recap. I was busy watching football last night (Go Ravens), so I haven't seen the episode yet, but now I don't even have to, your words painted such a good picture of the action.
 

I had to chuckle a little at Pat when he told Vicki was going home and Transito hugged her and said "You're free!" He was behind her rolling his eyes. I hate that these two women are making me agree with Patricio.

Transito should still have the gun. Shoot him already! Pancho should be grateful for the help.

So now Mara is openly with Art,in front of Lisette, with no guilt whatsoever. Now, before she went to jail, she didn't want to get in the way of "Art's family" .... So now that she is not too concerned with boundaries, why does she get to be so righteous about honesty and trust from Mumsy?! Even Mr Mena gets fed up with Mara.

NarcoGuy really has a way with women, eh?! Come to dinner or I might kill your mom or kid. Wear what I tell you to wear. Invite your ex-husband (who isn't technically your husband or technically divorced from the fake marriage) AND his mistress when you were married to watch me propose. Pull guns on the ex when he protests. Pull guns on the female when she says she needs to think about it and go home. It would be faster and safer if NarcoGuy just knocked Santa out and dragged her off to Mexico. There are several TN ranches where women have been kept against their will.

Every time Ivan shows up at Vicky's house, he grabs her and kisses her and Pat walks in. At this point, I almost give Pat a pass for smacking Ivan. I am just surprised Pat hasn't sent him to the Bayou Lady like they sent Santi.




 

SANTA, Martes, Part 1

Lots of things are happening in Marrero, things are getting resolved, making me wonder when they’re going to say “Últimas Semanas”. But no word on that yet. So let’s see what went down.

Santa frees Francisca, asking Who’s got the Power Now?, and warning her not to reveal anything, unless she wants everyone to know Barb has a sister whom Fran hid from the world. Fran stumbles out, shaken to the core. Santa’s phone rings, it’s Santiago, she doesn’t answer. Nope, would interfere with her revenge plans. When she leaves, Santi’s right there, outside, they see each other, he says we have to talk, but she won’t, hesitates for a minute, then drives off, leaving him baffled, still wondering if Santa has something going on with Franco.

Alicia is counting her money, when there’s a knock at the door. She opens it, no one’s there. She goes back, doesn’t lock the door, turns to her money, when George bursts in, and hits her over the head with a lamp! Down she goes, as George sneers, you just couldn’t keep quiet. Well, no one’s going to deprive me of my money! Unfortunately for him, Santa then arrives home, takes one look at Alicia on the ground, and hits George. He’s pretty strong, and they struggle. He finally gets the better of Santa, is choking her to death, fingers squeezing her neck, when Alicia stirs, saying Santa? George takes his attention off Santa for a second, and that’s all she needs, she breaks free, then FLIPS him over her back, he crashes down, hits his head on the table, and George is DEAD. Alicia knows, she’s good at recognizing this sort of thing.

Although Santa is sort of in shock, it was an accident, after all, Alicia will have none of that. The first death is the hardest, you’ll see. Santa says but I didn’t mean it. Alicia says we have to get the body out of here, are you gonna help me? Santa reluctantly helps her wrap the body in a blanket, when the doorbell rings! It’s a smiling Elisa, who won’t take no for an answer (Alicia says your services are no longer needed), she really needs this job, pushes her way into the house, ready for charm school. Her heeled foot almost bumps into George’s dead hand, hidden under the table. In the end, Alicia says okay, you’re not fired, just come back in a few hours. Elisa leaves, wondering what was going on. Eventually, the girls get the body into the trunk, and here’s Santiago again, wants to talk, neither gal will pay any attention to him, and they speed off. They dump the body in a park, Alicia says we WANT it to be discovered, no one except George knew there was any connection at all between them, so no one would ever suspect Alicia or Santa. And George had LOTS of enemies.

Inés is ready for her big plan, money, baby, Santi, leave country. Step one, she goes to the bank, tells the guy she wants to withdraw ALL her money, he says it’s quite a bit, she knows, she smiles, she wants it in cash. She gets it. Next stop, baby. She visits Bert, who is in a daze. She wants him to help steal her baby, he just goes “She’s going to marry him!” Yes, Bert is bummed because he thinks Santa will marry Franco. (I’m getting some weird vibes, that maybe Bert could join with Santiago, because they both hate Franco and both want to stop Santa from marrying Franco. Could the brothers be a team?) Anyway, Inés leaves without getting Bert’s help, but she gets a call, the hospital is discharging the baby today, come get her. Hooray! Inés beams. At the hospital, she picks up her baby, Begoña and Paula arrive, try to stop her, but she’s the Mom, yells out, they’re trying to take my baby, and Bert arrives to talk the security guys down, as Inés strides out (without a car seat, of course).
 

SANTA, Part 2

Barb is mad about getting attacked by George, has told Daniela they’re leaving, but Dani doesn’t want to go. Barb takes one look at Dani’s trainer, and fires him. So much for THAT drug withdrawal program. Dani’s hair is looking nicer, everything was going so well.....She calls Iván, but no one’s there. Since I didn’t see last night’s episode, I have no clue where Iván is, although I know Vicky sort of rejected him. Maybe he went to sign his book deal. Barb goes to the station to file a complaint against George, who is supposed to meet her there.

At the Trebol de Oro, Pat is being his usual self, he’s showing Tránsito the books, the earnings are really good, almost as high as when Carlos was there. There’s a knock on the door, and it’s a raid! Pancho, Sifuentes and crew come in, search the place, and arrest Patricio. Pat protests, he was just visiting Tránsito. That’s not what these books say, replies Pancho, adding that they show lots of transfers to Pat’s private account (not sure how he saw that so fast, but I’m lovin it). Pancho then says to all the girls, Here are your passports back. You have nothing to fear now. Just tell me, who’s in charge of the whole operation. It’s like “To tell the truth”, each one looks at the other, no one moves. But then, some fingers start pointing. And some more. And now they’re ALL pointing at PAT. Who me, he sputters. Pancho reads him his rights, Pat says I’ve heard all that, Pancho says I’m sure you have with all the other crimes you’ve committed. You’re going away, bud, and you know how they treat criminals in jail if they’re guilty of sex crimes? Yes, we all do, having graduated from Telenovela 101. Pat’s taken away, but not before shooting Tran a last threatening look. Pancho comforts Tran, telling her Vicky’s note led them to the raid. Tran can’t believe it. It’s the first time in her LIFE anyone has ever done something for her!

Lucy is almost ready for her wedding. I think it’s tomorrow. She sees Fran, who is white as a sheet, a tear running down her face, flashing back to Santa’s threats, looking like a slab of cold stone. Lucy’s chattering, sort of notices Fran, but the main thing is, just don’t BE here tomorrow, when all the guests arrive, got it?

Mara goes back to her café, it’s all nice again, under new management, she’s dressed up in a very professional outfit, seeks out the new owner, identifies herself as the old owner. She put so much of her life into it, could she possibly have a job here? Administrator? Adviser? Head of operations? She has lots of education and experience. Sorry, says the new owner, the only thing available is dishwasher. I’ll TAKE it, she says, happy to have SOMETHING.

At the station, Barb arrives, pissed off as hell that George hasn’t even shown up. She goes on and on about how he’s going to PAY, when Sifuentes comes to the door, and calls Pancho aside. He tells him that some kids found George’s body. Pancho comes back in, tells Barb you’re going to have to be very strong, but your husband was just found DEAD. Barb’s eyes go wide. D-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-dead?????

Alicia’s doorbell rings again. It’s a big thug, and she kicks him, and puts him on the ground. Here’s another, and she skillfully dispatches this one. But the third one has a GUN. And the fourth one is Franco. Good afternoon, Miss, he says with his normal mixture of suave and deadly. Uh oh!!!!!
 

Loved, loved, loved the recap, Hombre. You got a great episode.

Alicia obviously needs some instruction on the polite thing to do if someone calls when you are trying to hide a dead body.

I couldn't believe George was really dead. First Horti and now George. The bad guys are dropping like flies.

Speaking of Horti, you didn't mention the lovely Lisette's visit to Padre Milton complete with threats.
 

I guess NarcoGuy isn't going to wait for Santa to decide whether she wants to marry him. He needs Elisa's or somebody's help with relationships.

It was nice that NarcoGuy wasn't interested in helping Patricio. I hope Patricio stays in prison but I'm not optimistic with Pancho's record of policing. Is Transito going to close down the Trebol de Oro not that all her girls are gone?

It would be nice if Babs were arrested for killing George. Is the fact that George killed Gaston going to be a loose end that never gets revealed?

George is DEAD. Alicia knows, she’s good at recognizing this sort of thing
Lucy wanted Fran out of the house so that she and Pancho can meet with the wedding planner.

Loved when Alicia told Santi they needed to go because they killed someone and had to get rid of the body .... ahhh just kidding!

Also, Barb got really pissed because Pancho was late to his meeting with her because he was busy freeing dozens of sex slaves. She asks him what could be more important than her complaint against George.

Last tidbit that I thoroughly enjoyed was when Pancho went to read the Miranda rights to Pat and he said ya ya, I know it already and Pancho tells him yes, he imagines Pat has them committed to memory for all the times he has heard them....

Good lines.

I almost had the feeling that Barb was going to put the movidas on the trainer.

Then I wondered if Elisa was going to spy on Alicia and Santa..

Last, I thought Santa was supposed to be a badass. She gets a fail on her reaction to killing George in self-defense. I thought wonder if George's secret about killing the Sr Cano will be lost forever, or, if he told Alicia?

I was really surprised when George turned out to be dead. Alicia did a quick check for a pulse, but that seemed pretty perfunctory, so I kept expecting him to start moving again.

I wasn't at all surprised that Franco wasn't willing to help Patricio. I was a little surprised that he didn't try to have Patricio assassinated as he was getting into the patrol car after being arrested. After all, Patricio could testify against him. Though I guess there will be other opportunities for an enterprising guy like Franco to have Patricio killed.

I must say, with George dead, Santa and Mara out of jail, Patricio arrested and the Trebol de Oro captives sent back to their countries, the telenovela is beginning to have an últimas semanas feel. Does anyone know how many more episodes remain?
 

Mena, I too thought Barb was about to make a play for the guapo trainer. And I too thought that when Elisa said "I wonder what's going on," she would start spying on Alicia and Santa.


 

Last night was capitulo 90. These novelas vary in length but 140 episodes is pretty standard so we are a ways from the end unless they end it early.

Following the Corazon Valiente pattern, they may bring in a whole new bunch of villains.

DiablaAlicia is going to have to learn to use her indoor voice if she wants to keep committing crimes with impunity. I wonder if that's one of the skills Elisa is going to teach her…

Inés is going to be so very disappointed when she realizes that Santi isn't going anywhere with her. Let's hope that infant manages to survive her 15 minutes of infamy with her mommy.

We *are* getting últimas semanas vibes. I hope they don't add on a bunch of villains just to keep the pot boiling.

So Santa is kind of a murderer now, too... even if it was self defence or an accident...

The writer just finished the last scripts last week, he wrote about this on his twitter account.
The filming is about two months ahead, I'm not sure how long it takes between the moment a script is written and the shooting starts.
So, at the very least, I'd say we have two more months of shows, that's about 50 episodes.
So, yeah, more villains maybe and also Alicia's story is only now beginning and Ines doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Neither is Bert.
 

Thanks for adding the things I forgot, Jean, Mena and others. Lisette sure is mistaken if she thinks she can bribe Padre Milton. He gave her the monthly check early, saying he could see why Horti didn't trust her, and she tore up the check! What an ingrate.

I have a feeling that Gaston's murder will never come to light, just as Horti's attempted murder of Mara by Carlos's car will remain unsolved. And who knows if the cops will ever find out who killed that bodyguard (Bert), or even that Pat killed Carlos. There are so many crimes, they seem to sort of fade away after a while.
 

Thanks, Jean, for the info about the number of capítulos. I found it quite depressing. I'm definitely ready for últimas semanas. I think it will be hard to stay with this telenovela for another 50 capítulos.

I don't ask that all telenovelas follow the example of La Reina del Sur, which had 63 capítulos, but that remains for me far and away the best telenovela I've ever seen. There are many reasons for its excellence (e.g., superb acting, superb script), but I suspect that not dragging things on for too long is one of them.
 

SANTA, Miércoles, Part 1

Franco strides into Alica’s house, and demands to know where Santa is. Alicia is tough, it’s none of your business, bud. But Franco is tougher. He rips Alicia’s eye patch off, and says if you don’t tell me where she is in two hours, I’ll make the rest of your body look worse than your eye! You’ll be a corpse! He turns and leaves, and Alicia scrambles to re-attach her patch, then bursts into tears.

Not long after, the doorbell rings, and it’s Elisa. Alicia doesn’t stop her from entering, and Elisa can see she’s really upset and tearful. She’s afraid to touch Alicia, but tentatively does, gradually putting her arm around her, telling her one of the secrets to getting rid of sadness is a hug. Alicia slowly accepts the embrace in a very moving scene. Elisa tries to get Alicia to talk about why she’s so sad. She gets her a cup of water, surprised there’s not more in the fridge, did you just arrive? Alicia says yes, I just arrived, from far away. It gradually comes out that Alicia wants revenge against her own mother! Elisa can relate to this, as Mara has just kicked HER out, and she urges Alicia to forgive her (unnamed) mother. And what’s a good way to make peace? A party! Alicia brightens up, yes, let’s plan a party where I’ll “reconcile” with my mother!

Santa goes to Santiago’s cabaña, he’s alone there, but he wants answers. Who is that chick with the patch? How could she know me? Santa isn’t saying, just can’t tell him. And what’s up with you and Franco, he’s a really dangerous man. Santa says he’s the one who shot you, right? Well, I know what I’m doing. Santi gets the idea that Santa is playing some game, and says I won’t allow you to be anywhere near that crook, for your own protection! Santa looks him straight in the eyes, says I didn’t come her to argue, and plants a big hot kiss on his astounded lips. The room heats up really fast, as the magnetic attraction of our lovers threatens to go off the charts! Clothes come off, and things get really passionate, until who should walk in? Inés! Get away from my husband! Santi corrects her, you really have nothing to say, Inés, you took advantage of my loss of memory to say YOU were Santa! Yes, I’ve recovered my memory now, and it’s OVER. Santa gets a call from Begoña, willy is yelling and screaming, and needs his mother, so she leaves. Inés tries once more with Santi, what about our baby? Santi knows it’s not even his baby, and tells Inés to leave. Inés gets a crazy look in her eyes, half loca, half determined, her world has collapsed, but I bet she’s not through yet!

She goes back to the hospital, and wheels the baby carriage over to Paula, who’s there waiting for news of her shot brother, Willy. Inés says, here, take it, it’s yours (the baby)! Paula is shocked, but knowing Inés, not so much, and gratefully takes the baby, promising her she’ll never be alone.

Lázaro tells Mara she’s being too hard on her mother, he and Elisa really love each other, it’s serious. Mara says it’s not your fault, I’m just mad that my mother kept it secret from me for so long, how can I ever trust her again? Lázaro says I understand, but since I used to be your boyfriend, please tell me it’s not jealousy of your mother, you have no more feelings for me, right? Yes, tell us, says Arturo, who has just entered. Do you still have any feelings for Lázaro? Mara sort of gulps.
 

SANTA, Part 2

Bárbara comes home, finds Francisca sitting there like a stone, tells her that George is dead, and is shocked that Fran doesn’t seem to bat an eye. What’s wrong, you were always the strong one. When Willy Delgado and Santa Martinez-Shut up! yells Fran, don’t mention those names ever again, she says shaking. Barb can’t begin to guess what happened to Fran.

Meanwhile, Franco is still on his quest to find Santa, and goes to Bert’s office. WHERE IS SHE? he roars, and points his gun at Bert. Bert tries to hold it together, says, first of all, I don’t know. Second of all, if you kill me, you’ll NEVER have Santa’s love, she’d never marry a killer! Franco then shoots a statue off Bert’s desk, terrorizing him a bit, and leaves, saying either I’ll have her, or NOBODY will (we’ve heard this a lot recently).

Bert goes home, finds Barb and Fran, and tells Barb it’s not so bad, now they’ll all get to move back to the mansion, since with George dead, Barb inherits. Great, huh? Barb isn’t pleased, she’s really affected, yes George was a loser, a bum, but he was the only guy who ever loved me! Later, Pancho confirms with Bert that the only suspect they have so far is....Bárbara!

Pancho goes to Vicky’s house, she’s there with Ulises, and tells her the good news. Patricio has been arrested, he won’t hurt you again. Then it’s finally over, she sighs, oh thank you, so, so much! Vicky hugs Pancho, and at this moment, Lucy walks in, get away from my man! She berates Pancho for being “unfaithful” with this “slut”. She marches out in a huff as Pancho and Vicky can only roll their eyes. Vicky then calls Iván, come on back, Pat’s in jail, the only reason I brushed you off the other day was to protect you from him. Iván rushes over, they kiss, and Iván, ignorant of Vicky’s cancer, tells her, my love, we have all the time in the world.

We see Pat in jail, replaying some of the things that got him there, such as Ulises telling Pancho he suspected Pat, who seemed to care more about the house than about his missing wife, who was evasive about his job, and may have married Vicky for the money. Pat glares.

Santa arrives back at Alicia’s house to see her and Elisa bonding, talking of the party. Outside, Franco’s been waiting in his SUV, sees her, says FINALLY! Before he can get out of the car, here comes SANTIAGO! What? He’s supposed to be DEAD! How could he have survived? Franco replays the shot, the bridge, it’s impossible. And yet, there he is. Anyway, time for action, he gets out of the car with his three henchmen, and tells them, we’re going in. Kill everybody except Santa Martinez! Inside, Santa is going to visit Willy, exits, and there’s Franco. She tells him he’s nuts, she won’t go with him. He replies fine. Boys, kill everyone inside that house (Alicia, Elisa, Santiago). Wait, pleads Santa. Don’t do it. I’ll marry you. I’ll go with you to Mexico, anywhere. Just please don’t harm any of the people in that house!!!!! Franco just smiles.

it seems Alicia's (no) eye is really sensitive to her, she really fell apart when Franco exposed her, and Elisa has a nice motherly touch, giving Alicia a gentle hug.

Santa and Santiago were just getting started, right, when Ines strolls in, it was interesting to watch how Ines kept the baby between her and the new Santa on steroids.

Roberto Mateos (Patricio) is one scary dude, I don't think Ivan, Victoria, and the Trebolites should start celebrating just yet.

wow, it was wild west time with Franco and his gang lined up in the street, guns drawn, making the slow walk to the Diabla clubhouse, kill 'em all, Franco says.

oh yeah, I need a place to stay says Santiago, no way says Alicia,

It was astonishing to me how animated Vicky became as soon as Patricio was arrested. It was almost as if the cancer no longer existed. Only at the end of her embrace with Ivan did it become clear that she's aware that she will not live long.

So Diabla #1 is vulnerable after all. I was quite moved by the scene between her and Elisa, soppy though it might have been. Quite possibly she had never had anyone before who wanted to hug her.

I long ago lost patience with Lucy, but she has become even more ludicrously unpleasant lately. Sort of like fingernails on the blackboard. I guess the writers are giving Pancho a reason to cancel the boda (which is supposed to take place in a day or two??).

Does no one ever lock their doors in Marrero? Everyone just seems to walk in wherever and whenever they please.

deb, I agree with you about Patricio and about people not celebrating quite yet. Especially if we still have 49 more episodes to go (sigh).

NovelaMaven, I loved your remark about the continual repairs to Humberto's office.
 

Can't wait for the party, I'm sure it will be muy memorable. I love Novela parties, they are the best.

I can only think of one novela where the the door is locked, that is MPV. Oriana locked it to keep Jose Luis from coming in uninvited.

I thought Humberto stood up to the threat of the gun very well until Franco shot, then I'm sure Hum needed clean ropa interior.

the pizza arrives, it's dinner time,
Santiago keeps prying, Diabla gets flustered and walks off,
a bored Santiago flips on the tv,
oops, the Cano family videos are on,
what's this, he says,
then he sees the stacks of Cano discs,
Alicia comes back in, sees this,
and grabs the pizza knife, holds it behind her back,
walking towards Santiago,
Santiago pushes her for answers, how do you know my family,
aww, he remembers the mysterious disguised phone calls saying Francisca was a murderer,
that was you, he demands to know, now backing her up,
Alicia bumps into a chair,
the knife drops, and she rushes out, saying nothing.

Santa calms willy, reassures him everything is ok,

once again, "mi casa", he smiles.

Humberto reminds Barbara to be the grieving widow,
the police are here,
Barbara, most of her facial bruises covered by her odd makeup,

the next couple of months with Ivan will be my happiest EVER,

Diabla meets with Elisa,
(not sure about all this, but I think it was for a lesson)
Diabla is busy,
but wants Elisa to invite Francisca to the party,
(does Elisa click to the mother story?)
later we see Alicia someplace, saying this is perfect,
as she fondles her gun.

and who else arrives, Santa and Santiago
the Padre is aghast,
(don't know why, Willy did the same thing, maybe relieved it won't be confidential)
the Cano's are impacted, but glad to see Santiago alive,
except Francisca who already knows,
and Humberto who is glued to the part where they are holding hands,
hugs all around, I'll explain later, Santiago says,
and Pancho becomes his siamese twin.

Humberto mingles over to Santa,
he wants a Franco update,
and reminds her how he saved her life in the hospital,
desperately trying to get his foot in the door, anything,
but he gets a call,
it's Ines with her latest hospital adventure,
Humberto flips.

Francisca gets up enough courage to walk over to Santa,
she wants to know about Alicia,
Santa does her faraway tough girl look,

Santiago leaves with Pancho,
and fills him in,
Ines was the first to find me,
(can anyone smell the Bayou lady yet)

*Victoria's
Ivan arrives, he has a surprise for Victoria,
she is excited,
come with me, he says.

*Martinez mansion
grandmother Begona, left at home to care for Willy's kids,
returns from a walk in the park,
Franco and his gang invite themselves in.

*funeral
Francisca leaves alone, but is met by Elisa,
you must come with me, but I can't say any more,
says a desperate to keep her job Elisa,
a reluctant Francisca agrees, just to avoid Santa,
but Santa sees them walk off,
Elisa and Francisca ???
awww, (it clicks), Diabla,
and she follows.

 

deb, I loved your recap! I chuckled over your comment re Victoria, "(oh Victoria, why did you say that in a novela)." We've never seen her watching a telenovela, even though she's often indoors, so I guess she didn't realize. :-)

And yes, I too immediately thought of the Bayou woman when Santiago was giving Pancho his narrative. I'm still hoping that she's not really dead--perhaps she managed to pull the bullet out, as she did with Santiago. Yes, I know that's absurd, but this is a telenovela, where "absurd" has no meaning, or at least a very different one.

I was thinking that Alicia and Santa should have dumped George's body at the bottom of a flight of stairs. The crummy Marrero CSI would probably have concluded that he fell down the stairs and broke his neck.

I was also disappointed that Santi didn't give Pancho more details about how he survived being shot and dumped in the river so that we could find out what happened with Bayou lady.

Last episode, Elisa advised Alicia to have a party to introduce herself to the her mother. Elisa is making the arrangements for Alicia. Then Alicia tells Elisa that she has to invite Francisca Cano to the party and Elisa realizes that Fran is Alicia's mother. Then Alicia goes to the place that Elisa has rented for the party and approves of it. (If there is damage from gunfire, she might have trouble getting her deposit back. ;-) )

I sure hope someone is telling Pancho about Franco. He seems to be at every function, but Pancho can't find him? All Pancho has to do is follow Santa, and Franco will turn up. But it's never that easy in these shows.

As usual, there are no children from stable marriages. We have Felipe, the son of Lisette and Arturo, who don't love each other; willy, son of Willy and Santa, and she certainly doesn't love him anymore; the unnamed baby of Ines and Willy, currently being cared for by Begonia, who is no relation to her; and of course Paula is pregnant from George, who didn't marry her and is now dead.

Deb, I agree, Santa married Willy, then Bert, now maybe Franco. And the one she loves is Santi!

When Bert said to Santa, we're destined for each other, I got an inkling that maybe, just maybe, he's right. That is, if Santa goes more to the dark side, she may end up unworthy of Santiago, and go with Bert (although they'd both have to die going off a cliff or something, to pay for their crimes). Maybe.

(I don't know if I will ever be able to separate this actor (Ezequiel Montalt) from the character George, he did this so well, and he really does play the sax, but not in this show)

yes Hombre, every show the door opens a crack for Santa/Humberto, I can see Santa laying a rose on his grave, husband number 2.

and thanks Jean for your help on the Diabla/Elisa meeting, I guess I didn't get that Elisa was taking Diabla to this place she got for the "party", when Diabla sent her off to get Francisca.

this "party of one" theme is a little shaky, maybe the room is decorated, I wonder if Diabla will top the party that Santa threw for Francisca, and Elisa is so strange being the go-between, and I'm not really seeing a refined, glamorous Diabla in our future.

and such a tragic character Diabla is, I'm having a hard time wrapping around the part where she (Maki Soler) is the real life wife of Juan Soler (Reinaldo in "Marido").

Santa woudl not only be one of the few tn protagonistas married several times, but also, AT THE SAME TIME... kind of.

She thought Willy was dead when she married Bert and of course she used a fake name, but she was still kind of married to him for a while - and they did do it, at least once, when she couldn't drug him... After that, I'm really not sure - those man pajamas she was wzearing must have come from the Ariel Piemonte Collection because they were just not sexy. they worked great for being druged and waking up in the forest, though...


If Santa turns dark enough, she might be worthy of Bert... she did kill someone already, even if it was an accident.
As Diabla said, the first time is more diffcult.

s great that Humberto gets his house back, but wouldn't it really belong to Daniela? She's his only heir is he and Barb got divorced. She should kick them all out. Then Elisa should adopt her. And Diabla. Elisa should just adopt anyone who needs it and they can all live together in Daniela's new, beheader-free house.

I'm not sure, but I don't think George and Barb ever got divorced. Neither did Santi and Ines. Or Santa and Bert, although their marriage was fake to begin with. And of course Willy and Santa never got divorced. We seem to have lots of marriages, lots of kids out of wedlock, few divorces. But I'm not sure Daniela is up to much of anything with the mansion, after her latest drug/withdrawal induced desperate act, which we'll hear about in the recap.

I agree, though, Elisa is wonderful, a strong, caring character. And yet Mara still can't forgive her.
 

Oh yeah, Hombre, Elisa is a great character. My favorite line in the episode comes when Elisa shows Alicia just how tough she can be:

Soy más diabla que tú

Let's give Mara a little time to cool down. It's only been two days. (Other people have been carrying grudges for years.)

Good question about divorces. [Though why waste money on lawyers when, on this show, there's a good chance one of the partners will bite the dust soon enough? It does make for messy inheritance fights though.]

Some parties last night, huh? I don't know about you guys, but I'd try to stay away from any event hosted by Alicia or Franco.

I was wondering how the writers were going to have nearly mute willy explain to Pancho what was happening. And hah! They didn't. One minute the kid is sitting there with his angelic face absolutely blank while Pancho and Humberto are Que haces aqui'ing him. The next minute, Pancho is rallying the troops.

Will the cops get to the Martinez house in time to keep Santa from taking out Franco?

Poor Daniela. She is really on her own. We all know the Marrero Police Department can only deal with one crime at a time so no one is likely to rescue her from the human refuse heap she has thrown herself into.
 

God, watching Daniela last night was truly painful. I don't remember many tn scenes that have bothered me so much in the past.
And NOW Barbara is worried.... Bad mother doesn't even begin to describe her...
 

Santa,

wow, what a show,

I think what I love about this novela is that every day is a new day, people have their hopes and dreams, but things don't always work out how they or us expect.

yes, mother Elisa is really taking a big step forward, filling that void that has a permanent place in nina Diabla's life,

and what did Elisa tell Santa, while Diabla was busy killing her mother, you just have to be more positive.

Gilda Haddock (Francisca) is doing such an incredible job, you can see all of her torment through her eyes, so she would rather Diabla kill her than live with the shame of Alicia being alive, hmm, I wonder what plan she will come up with, I somehow don't think Ines will be of much help.

and there is something about Ines calling people crazy...

and where did they find all of the zombies so that Daniela could have some friends, while Ivan is busy buying a house, so who is going to live at Victoria's house if Ulises goes back home, sorry Ivan, there won't be time for an apple tree.

 

Deb, re: Daniela - what friends? those drug addicts who took advatnage of her... that was so disturbing to watch for me, I almost had to switch off the video.
Has Telemundo maybe cut part of the scene?
 

My Spanish teacher is from Venezuela and she told me that the actress who plays Elisa, Gledys Ibarra, was very well known in Venezuela but was sort of blacklisted in Venezuela after she came out in support of Capriles.
 

How interesting, Jean. I hope Ms. Ibarra lands on her feet in Miami.
 

There is an interview with her from Jaime Bayly's Miami TV show in May of this year on You Tube. She didn't mention SD but did say that she had done a performance of the Vagina Monologues so she is clearly doing local theater. Maybe SD pays the bills. Bayly seemed mostly to be interested in how bad things were in Venezuela like not being able to find toilet paper in the stores.

Santa Diabla Capitulo 93

Those crazy kids in Marrero sure had a lively time of it in this last capitulo.

Part 1

Ivan and Vicky – Ivan leads a blindfolded Vicky over the threshold of a brand-spanking new house. The love-struck Ivan removes the blindfold to reveal to Vicky her new home-to-be for the pair of them. He gushes on and on about their long future together. It is to be so long that they can plant an apple tree and a garden and watch them grow. Then they can travel and fill the house with lots of love. An uneasy Vicky replays the video in her mind of her grim diagnoses of an advanced stage of cancer. She remains silent about her secret with Ivan. Later Ivan leads Vicky back to her house where a petal strewn hallway leads to a champagne dinner prepared by brother Ulises to celebrate the couples new house-to-be. Pop! Fizzzzz!

Lisette, in a very brief scene, works at convincing the evil Petra not to leave her employ even though Lisette cannot pay Petra in full because of that nasty trustee of her son’s will, Father Milton. Lisette has a “job” for Petra that will pay her very well, indeed. Viewerville worries about the “job” and Father Milton’s longevity.

Mara reports to work at her former café. Her first duty? Clean the bathroom. With head held high she does just that. Former employees, waitresses once hired by Mara herself, come to see if the rumor is true. Has their former boss been reduced to cleaning the bathroom? Yessiree, it’s true. They shake their heads in disbelief and leave Mara behind, seemingly nonplussed.

Paula lurks in the hospital waiting room. A doctor approaches her – performs his HIPPA duty and asks if she is Willy’s family – and says he has some bad news for her. Viewerville is left dangling.

Barbara searches the former Cano-then George-now Cano-we think-house for Dani. Viewerville is impressed yet skeptical that Barbara is able to act like she cares a lot about her daughter’s welfare. She even calls Ivan to report that Dani is missing and that she is very worried about her. Ivan pushes his ignore button on the phone so he can continue his special day with Vicky.

Desperate druggie Dani goes in search of, what else, drugs. She finds some creepy drug dealers and some of his slimy friends. She pulls off her expensive jewelry to pay for the drugs. The slimy set suggests that she can pay for the drugs in “other ways”. Dani doesn’t refuse. One of the less slimy members of the slimy set suggests that they leave Dani alone since she seems to have just lost her father, but the more slimy members of the slimy set only offers to be “her papacita” as he slimes all over Dani. Dani seems oblivious to the entire mess as she hallucinates about her dead father George.

Post funeral, Pancho has a discussion with Santi about Santi’s recent adventures. They discuss Santi’s narrowly missed assassination by NarcoFranco and crazy Ines and her post assassination attempt on Santa and other antics. Pancho tells Santi he will assign security detail to protect Santi from Franco. Viewerville and Santi think the security detail would be more effective by protecting everyone against Ines. Santi leaves to find Santa. Now Bert approaches Pancho about their crazy unhinged sister Ines.

Part 2

Another complaint?! Back at the station, Bert tells Pancho that Ines is unhinged and dangerous. Bert suggests hospitalizing Ines and throwing away the key (not really- the key part anyhow). Pancho replies that he has been so busy freeing sex slaves, solving George’s murder, breaking up fights between Fran and Santa and Lucy and Vicky that he hasn’t had time to notice Ines’ problems. Bert asks Pancho to consider what Vicente would do in this situation? Desiree, and look how well that worked out between Vicente and Ines.

Willy Jr finds himself tied up in the bedroom next to up Santi. Santi manages to free Willy Jr so he can escape and run to the police for help. Willy is next seen in the police station by Pancho and Bert who, alarmed, ask him where his mother is. Viewerville sees Willy sitting mute in a chair in the police chief’s office and in the next scene sees Pancho rounding up the SWAT squad for a raid. Viewerville never actually hears a word uttered by the kid. Did Willy text, sign or draw the report?

Begona and the kids shake in their boots and booties as NarcoFranco and his thugs point guns at them. NarcoFranco orders Begona to call Santa and get her back home in any manner necessary. Begona complies but Santa hits the ignore button much to Begona’s dismay. There is a knock at the door. Seems Santi is looking for Santa too. Begona is ordered to get rid of Santi, but to her dismay, Santi pushes his way into the house and into Franco’s fist. Lucky for Santi, we see him tied up in the bedroom instead of paying another visit to the now vacant Bayou Lady’s house.

Elisa stands outside the church after George’s funeral and approaches Fran. She convinces Fran to accompany her somewhere. Fran hesitates (viewerville can hardly blame her after all her surprises as of late). She relents as she considers that the other option is to stay and have to rub elbows with Santa. The pair of them goes to the location of the mother-daughter party reunion. Unaware of the real reason for the fiesta, Elisa tells Fran that the party is her idea and encourages Fran to be optimistic about the pending surprise. Fran remains ill at ease with the idea of any more “surprises”.

 

Part 3

Diablalicia, inside, has added a few touches to the party balloons and other décor to create a rather macabre party scene. She has spray painted the words “Alicia #10” on the wall. Fran enters and is welcomed by her long lost and very angry daughter. Diablalicia orders Fran to call the family and invite them to the party. Anything but that replies Fran. After reproaching Fran, “mamita” for her cruel abandonment years ago, Diablalicia pulls a gun and prepares to kill Fran. Outside Santa has arrived to stop the “party” but Elisa tries to stop Santa. Elisa wonders what could possibly go wrong with a mother-daughter reunion? Santa explains that the pair of women hates each other and a few yells sound out to punctuate Santa’s explanation. Santa rushes in to save Fran from receiving a bullet in the head. Santa explains to Diablalicia that it would be more impactful to shame Fran in front of her children than turn Fran into a victim by murdering her. A trip back to the pokey is not worth it. Fran is set free. Santa’s phone rings and she finally answers to the frantic Begona. She dashes off. Elisa faces off with Alicia after realizing she has been used as an accomplice to the attempted murder of Fran. Elisa informs Alicia that she is a lady in good times, but can be more of a devil than Alicia in bad times. She explains the difference between fearing someone and respecting someone to Diablalicia. A slightly more contrite Alicia confesses the real story of her relationship to the Cano family. Elisa softens and tells Alicia she will always have a friend but not an accomplice. Viewerville thinks that Diablalicia may have met her match.

Fran leaves “the party” and encounters Elisa outside. She accuses the befuddled Elisa of being an accomplice to the nearly successful murder plot. Later that afternoon, Fran decides it would be a good time for a confession to Father Milton. She makes the Padre assure her that this confession is confidential under the TN rules of religious laws. Despite Padre’s promise of confidentiality, viewerville sees Ines eavesdropping and knows that Fran’s secret is soon to be public information. Unaware, Fran confesses to the Padre her abandonment years ago of her deformed daughter. Padre urges Fran to confess but Fran is not willing to relinquish her keys to the community social set with this shameful secret past.

Santa returns to the house and walks into NarcoFranco’s gun. He orders her, Marguerita, to pack a bag in 10 minutes because it is time to go south. It seems that the DEA are getting too close. She complies and finds Santi tied up in her bedroom. NarcoFranco follows Santa into the bedroom to assure that she is doing as he has told her. He discovers Willy has escaped and utters some threatening words. This is apparently all the motivation that Santa needs. THWACK! FLIP! POWEE! Santa replies that he better NEVER threaten her son EVER as she performs her newly learned martial arts skills on him. NarcoFranco has his arm twisted behind his back, Santa’s knee on his back and a gun to his head. Santa informs NarcoFranco that his time is up. Santi, in full foolish form and with a barely healed gunshot wound and a few concussions, suggests Santa not kill NarcoFranco. WTQ?! The capitulo closes.

Thanks, Mena. Great recap!! I agree that Lisette's plan probably won't be to Padre Milton's benefit. Too bad that Horti didn't manage to gasp out that Petra was involved in the restaurant poisoning.

It's funny that Santa has been able to get the drop on NarcoGuy twice now even with his bodyguards. She should probably kill NarcoGuy cuz when the bodyguards come in, they're just going to threaten to kill Santi unless she frees NarcoGuy.
 

Thanks, Mena. I enjoyed the recap, and lines like "Barbara searches the former Cano-then George-now Cano-we think-house." And I was surprised that the doctor tells Paula he has bad news for her pretty early on in the novela, and then we're left hanging for the rest. Usually, they come back to stuff that happens near the beginning of the episode and leave us hanging only closer to the end. Oh well....

Once again, as much as I enjoy seeing Santa getting the better of pendejos like NarcoFranco, my beanie isn't tight enough to convince me that she learned all this martial arts stuff in the day or two she spent learning from Diabla.
 

Thank you for the recap, Mena, you added lots of funny stuff, like THWACK! FLIP! POWEE! At this point, with Santa holding the gun to Franco's head, they're acting as if it's a choice between killing him, or letting him go (or hesitating, so the thugs can come in). But what she should really do is clunk him on the head with the gun and knock him out.

Vicky's acting as if she can just fool Ivan til the end, she'll be pretty much fine, and then just drop dead one day (with a big goodbye scene). It worked for Horti. But in real life I have a feeling that when you don't get treatment for terminal cancer, it's not as if there's no pain and you can happily hide it from your loved ones. Works well in the telenovela world, though.

Has Petra even uttered a word? I'm sure she has, but most of the time, she's just there, ready to help out with some illegal scheme.

I was happy the other day when Ines fooled with Willy's tubes, some alarm was apparently set off, because the nurses came running in (of course they didn't see Ines heading out). Usually, nothing is monitored. But it may be too late anyway, depending on what the doctor says about Willy. We can guess what he'll say. It's "grave", or "the next 24 hours are critical". Or maybe Willy will have amnesia, or be in a coma, which means he could wake up in days, weeks, or years!

Paula isn't showing. She also seems to be in good health. Interesting how women always faint until they find out they're pregnant, then no more fainting.
 

I was wondering the same thing about Petra. I don't think she's ever said a word. She just followed Hortensia's instructions about following Lisette and breaking into Mara's. Maybe she's mute and that's why she has to work in a private home. She's a terrible person but what a great sidekick! You'd never have to worry about her spilling the beans.
