Por siempre mi amor #28 1/13/14: The Elephant in the Room is Sitting at the Dinner Table

Hope everyone had a great weekend! It was a windy and rainy one here, but the Seahawks won in spite of it and we are one game closer to the Super Bowl! Go Hawks!

Boomer & Remington show their inner Seahawk!

Now to our story:

Leftovers:
At Tita's, the unexpected and awkward arrival of Bruno and his wife Ally goes from bad to worse. Tita pointedly asks Zenaida to set another three places at the dinner table for unexpected guests. Bruno looks warily at his mother. Zenaida rushes off.

Sonia's pruney old Sugar Daddy arrives and orders her to fix dinner and fix herself while she's at it.

Which one of these guys is Sonia's Sugar Daddy?

Marianela, Tassels and the kids are finishing dinner. Agatha appears at the door with a bag of sweet bread.

Main Course:
Tassels tells Agatha that he and Mari are teaching the kids math, reading, and writing. Because the kids also help with their "business" they're also learning how to work and be responsible. Agatha asks Mari why the kids aren't in school. "They are street kids so none of them have official documents, no birth certificates or IDs." Agatha says, "What you're doing for the kids is noble." She offers to help them out in any way she can.

Aw, come on! You ALL know I'm here...

Everyone, including the elephant unexpected guests, is seated around Tita's dinner table. In the tense silence they either fiddle with a napkin, sip from their glass or look at their hands. Aranza tries to get some small talk going and stupidly asks Ally, "How did you and Bruno meet?
"I was working for a builder and I was his assistant."
"Was it love at first sight?"
"No, at first it wasn't serious."
"Was it a fling then?"
"No, it started out with no commitments. I don't believe in marriage, but Bruno does. He's very traditional. When he wanted to get married, we did. When you love someone you put things like that aside and do what he wants."
Gaby looks like someone has just kicked the stuffing out of her. Isabel leans closer to try to comfort her. Could this hellacious moment get any worse? Oh yes it can! And it does.

Zenaida enters with a platter of enchiladas. Ally asks, "Is this "typical" Mexican food? Is it spicy?" Bruno asks Zenaida if she can possibly fix a quesadilla or something for his wife. Tita is seething. "No!" she barks. "We are having EN-CHI-LA-DAS." She shoots dagger-eyes at Ally who shifts uncomfortably in her chair and picks up her fork. Enchiladas it will be!

Osvaldo takes a call from Dr. Carraza who invites him to go golfing the next day. Baltazar asks if he's going and Osvaldo says yes, but he knows that old geezer is up to no good. He only calls when he wants something.

The awkward dinner over, the guest say their good-byes. Gabi wishes Bruno happiness. Isabel asks where Ally is. It seems she has retreated to the kitchen with Zenaida to try to recover from both spice burns and frostbite. Aranza wants Esteban to drive her home but Arturo nixes that idea in a hurry. She's going home with him. Aranza rolls her eyes.

Tita is finally alone with Bruno. She's angry and hurt that Bruno got married without telling her. Tita hopes Bruno doesn't think she's going to welcome his wife like a daughter-in-law because she's not. She's a stranger. Bruno fires back, "Don't bother. We can go to a hotel."
"You did this without ever thinking about me? Like I meant nothing to you?" He argues that he's not a child and he didn't need her permission to get married. Look dude, we all know why you didn't tell your mother or anyone else. When a guy hides a wife, fiancée or girlfriend it's because there's a reason he doesn't want anyone to know about her. Can I get an Amen on that Fernando?

Tita can't believe that all those times Bruno phoned her from Spain Ally was right there and never wanted to meet her or even talk to her. "Were you selfish or scared?" Bruno protests lamely that he wasn't sure the relationship would last and then the wedding happened very fast. Through tears he swears he didn't want to hurt Tita, but he knows there is nothing he can do to make it up to her. "Maybe we should just go."
"Then how will I get to know her? I want to get to know her, spend time with her."
Tita sobs about how much she missed her son and how lonely she has been. Bruno sobs that he feels the same. He missed her too and he's so glad to finally be with her. She pulls Bruno tightly to her and tells him that she wants him and Ally to stay, to live with her. The house is huge. It's too big for just her and after she's gone it will be his anyway. He doesn't want to think about Tita being gone. They hug and cry some more.

Ally is in the kitchen with Zenaida. "I guess it wasn't a good idea to come here like this without telling anyone." Zenaida says Tita is upset because she didn't know about the wedding. She lets it slip that Tita thought Bruno would marry Gaby. Ally is not at all happy to learn that her hubby and Gaby were novios before he left for Spain.

Back at home Arturo tells Isabel he now realizes why Bruno didn't want him to tell anyone that he was coming back to Mexico. "How am I going to explain to Bruno why Gaby met him at the airport?" Isabel wants to know if Arturo knew about Bruno's wife. Arturo swears he didn't know anything about her. Bruno never said a word, not even that they were living together.

Isabel tries to convince Arturo to lighten up on Aranza and let her have her car back. He thinks Isabel should quit covering up and making excuses for Aranza. She counters, "Didn't you do stupid things when you were younger? I think you're being unfair."
"Now I'm the bad guy? Her punishment is justified. She needs to learn a lesson." Arturo's not budging. Well I'll be! It's about eleven years too late, but it turns out Arturo actually does have a spine!

On the phone Dafne asks Aranza if she is getting her car back. "I have my Dad's tramp talking to him about it." Aranza laughs about being nice to Isabel's face and making fun of her behind her back. That's what her Aunt Sonia advised her to do and her advice is always right. "That's why I always listen to her." The girl-chat is interrupted by a call from Satan Sonia.

Sonia asks about the car. Aranza tells her she didn't get it back yet. Sonia blames Esteban. "I don't like that boy. You need a real man." As Sonia talks we see Fernando in prison. "I'll be out in a few days and I'll get my revenge, Isabel."

At breakfast Aranza asks Isabel if Arturo has relented on giving her back her car. "No. I couldn't talk him into it." Aranza screams, "You didn't try. I knew someday you'd get pregnant and I'd get ignored. You only care about your baby and not about me!" Lucha looks sadly at Isabel, "Don't let it bother you." Isabel cries, "I've tried for years but no matter how much I do for Aranza, nothing is good enough."

Sonia is dressed to kill, or to at least distract the prison guards. The top of her blue dress keeps slipping off her shoulders. The slippage is aided by her toying with the neckline. Sonia has brought in a blanket because Fernando is "sensitive" or something. As the guard inspects the goods she lowers the sleeve of her dress and flirts. I guess she wants him to inspect her goods too. "Are you looking for drugs?"
"Drugs and guns."
Sonia feigns shock, "Oh! Who would bring in guns?? What happens to anyone you catch bringing in drugs or guns?"
"They get taken into the other room, stripped and arrested."
The other guard brings in the drug sniffing dog.
Sonia brightens, "Oh look! A dog!" She tries sweet talking the doggie and gets a facefull of snarl in return. What a good dog! He knows a bitch when he sees one.

Osvaldo and Dr. Elias tee off at the golf course. Baltazar caddies. Osvaldo's argyle vest is emblazoned with his family crest. I'm beginning to think that Ozzy has his own cottage industry that just sews his family crest on everything including his socks and tighty whities. Ozzy asks what Elias wants. The doctor just wanted to get Ozzy out of his house. He's sure Ozzy is suffering from chronic depression. "That's why you didn't tell anyone you were back from your travels. And by the way, how long has it been since you last dated Tita?"
"About four or five years."
"Well we all noticed the way you were looking at Tita at Aranza's party. And we all noticed the way she was looking at you. Maybe you should give dating her another try." Ozzy snorts at the idea, but in the background Baltazar nods in agreement.

Fernando enters the prison visitation room and Sonia whispers, "I brought what you asked for, but I couldn't bring in all of it." He tells her not to worry, one of the guards is helping him with The Plan and she can bring the rest and give it to him.

It's breakfast at Tita's and Ally isn't eating the food. Maybe somebody in Spain mistakenly told her "don't eat the food" instead of "don't drink the water". Tita asks Ally if it's her first time in Mexico. Bruno can't wait to show her his country, all the parks, theaters, museums and cultural sites. Ally doesn't seem impressed. I'm getting a real nose-in-the-air vibe from this woman. During the meal Zenaida rushes in to tell Tita she has a call from "The Club". Tita hurriedly gets up and goes to the other room to take the call. Bruno's eyes follow her quizzically.

In the kitchen Tita and Zenaida try to think of a way Tita can do her "club work" without Bruno and Ally finding out about it. They put on their thinking caps.

A morose Gaby is trying to work. Andrea, who looks very good with the new wardrobe and wedding ring, says Esteban told her about Bruno. Andrea says she knows what it's like to see a man you love with another woman. Gaby sobs about how stupid she was to think Bruno would wait for her. Andrea tries to comfort her. "You're young and beautiful and you can rebuild your life with someone new."
"I don't know if I can. All I ever saw was a life with Bruno."

At Gilberto's avocado abode Cuca confesses that she went to see Sonia. Gil wants to know how Sonia is doing and if she asked about him at all. "She's alone, she misses you. And just like you she's stubborn. Maybe it's time for you to make up."

For some reason that completely escapes me because it's a nice day, Bruno puts on a heavy jacket to go to the office. Ally zips his coat for him. (What was that about not being a kid?) She's staying behind to get to know Tita. Bruno tries to get to the garage through the kitchen but is nabbed by Tita who spins him around with an "Oh, just let me look at you son! You're so handsome!"

Maricela and the kids are getting ready for today's sidewalk sales. The kids want to know why they have to keep changing locations. Mari explains that they don't have any money to pay for a sales space and they have to avoid the police. The kids help her pack the box. Agatha talks with Tassels who has no tassels to twirl so he plays with his suspenders instead. (This kid really does look like a young Eduardo Yanez.) He wants to know if Agatha would be willing to rent a space to the guy they get their goods from. He needs someplace to keep his merchandise. Agatha is worried and wants to know if any of the merchandise is illegal. Tassels assures her the guy is on the level. She gives him the okay.

Isabel arrives at work to find a heartbroken Gaby. Why did Arturo keep the news about Bruno's wife to himself? "Bruno never told Arturo he was married." Isabel says the news floored them too. Gaby cries, "Why did I expect Bruno would wait for me?" Gaby walks over to a picture of Bruno and herself and flips it face down. "It's over. I don't want to talk about this anymore." She wipes her eyes and vows, "I'll be okay. I'm going to start again."

At the office Bruno gets the third-degree from Arturo. "Why didn't you tell me you got married?" You lived with her for five years and you never mentioned her!" Bruno confesses that he didn't tell Arturo he was getting married because he didn't want to hear that Gaby was waiting for him. Bruno claims he's "very happy" but it looks like nobody, including Bruno himself, is buying this line of bull.

Gilberto's son Daniel calls from school in the United States. He's finished with school and he's coming back to Mexico this weekend.

Girl talk, car talk, tramp talk between Dafne, Aranza and Ileana. Esteban walks up behind them and surprises Aranza with a cup of coffee then runs off to class. Aranza brags about Esteban being romantic and wonders what kind of gift he'll give her for their 6-month anniversary. Dafne disses Esteban for being poor. "He'll probably give you something cheap." She thinks Aranza is "settling" for a poor kid when she should be looking for someone older, who works and has his own money. That's what Dafne looks for.

Advances:
Fernando sets a fire in the prison and looks like he's going to make his escape in drag!

Xint, I have been part of the Caray community for almost 6 years and have been privileged to read amazing recaps, too many over the years to count. That said, I don’t think I have ever laughed out loud as hard or as happily as I did just now. The pictures of “pruney old Sugar Daddy” had me hysterical. Victor, the California Raisin and the “real” SD were great. When I saw “the elephant in the room” I was totally done in. I am in awe!

"Could this hellacious moment get any worse? Oh yes it can! And it does", "It's about eleven years too late, but it turns out Arturo actually does have a spine!", "I'm getting a real nose-in-the-air vibe from this woman" were fantastic. "It seems she has retreated to the kitchen with Zenaida to try to recover from both spice burns and frostbite" was my favorite.

The adorable Boomer and Remington are the sweetest - loved their pics (although being from MA, needless to say I am rooting for the Pats. May the best team win).

Needless to say, I am not getting a good vibe from Ally. Spoiled and selfish at the least. The worst? Yet to be determined. Bruno still looked angry when he saw Gaby. 10 years wasn't enough to dull the pain? Was this a "retribution" marriage? But of course Bruno keeping everything a secret from his mother and best friend makes no sense. Beanie time on this issue.

I like Gil! Would love some romance for him (and certainly better relative than Sonia), although his son appears to be quite nice (and handsome). Let's hope Daphne doesn't sink her fangs into him.

Speaking of deserving something better, so does Esteban. There is nothing now even the slightest bit kind or endearing about Ara now. I hope that changes, for both of their sakes.

And the loathsome Feo escapes (?) Hoping a quick recapture ensues.

Xint, this was a genuine masterpiece.

Diana

I can't wait to read this. Stoopid work keeping me from Caray. I ADORE Boomer and Remington!!!!!

Kathy- LOL! Loved the inserted pics. Wonderful recap too.

It seems that this is a pattern with Art and Isa. He tries to punish Ara and Isa wants to go soft on her, Art ends up looking like the bad guy. I bet Isa never tells him about how mean Ara is to her behind her back.

I disagree that there is nothing good in Ara. She doesn't care that Este isn't from old money, she actually knows his dad is in prison and she's never said anything to the others or judged him for that, and she realizes that an awesome boyfriend like him doesn't come along every day, even though he's the only boy she's ever dated, as Dafne pointed out. Ara countered that Este is one of a kind. I also think it was nice of her to be so welcoming to Ally. Everyone else was pretty darn rude. I'm not an Ara apologists by any means, but she is capable of being loving and loyal (Este), and being polite and welcoming when she wants to be.

awesome and had to take a double and triple take especially the elephant in the room

Bruno. I'm gonna try and be nice because he got a truck load of Tita guilt trip. Bruno, everyone knows why you didn't tell anyone about Ally and why you kept the Gabi torch secret from your wife. I used the wrong term several days ago saying it revenge but if it was it is clumsy at best and self harming. Not feeling sorry for Bruno and see he still acts like a teenage boy.

Ally, ok I get your eurosnobbery but what in the world you see in Bruno (you now know this is a set up) but more damning is you not liking home cooked Mexican food.

Art, I'm ok with you taking the keys and for at least one episode didn't see anything STUPID

Isabel what a torment you life must have been for the last 10 years

Gabi you were STUPID to think the dude wouldn't move on

Agatha, got a sick feeling when Tassel asked you to store some product for them and your good heart might get you run down this time

Aranza, the last counter to the evil of Sonia in your life is Esteban and she has set her sights on him now and with a little goose from Daphne we'll see if you are loyal to him. I fear not and your selfishness will destroy Esteban with a tryst with Fernando. Esteban I'll buy you a one way ticked to Espana, least I can do, shouting at the TV doesn't seem to work.

I'm late for work but I don't care. This recap was worth it. The guy in the middle is the Sugar Daddy, right?

I loved the "spice burn and frostbite" line and the Satan cross out.

Tassels definitely has a Lalo vibe. It's the constant smile and "gorsh and aw shucks" way he carries himself.

I am going to have to remember the good things about Aranza because I know that in the end I am supposed to be happy for her. Right now it's hard though.

I can't wait to see Feo in drag tonight.

Tofie-- hear! Hear! To all your comments. Tita broke my heart last night and I hope Bruno feels like crap.

Bruno is being a dick and he is so dicky he is not aware of it. You marry a complete stranger and you never remembered to tell your best friend and even your own mother about it?

"What a great dog,he knows a bitch when he sees one!" was my favorite,i still remember from Tormenta en El Paraioso where the main villian got destroyed by bees, they have bitch- tracking mode installed as well

yeah, Sara, I think Bruno got the message and seems he may have overplayed and badly. Though I don't like weepy outta him at least it appears he is not an evil guy, little dense and childlike yes, but evil no. He just shot himself in his own foot.

It was weird he put on a winter coat before he went out to play in decent weather but at least Tita zipped him up

Great stuff, and your dogs are adorable!

What a great dog, he knows a bitch when he sees one! was my favorite. That was also a beautiful dog; I love the ones who look like wolves and foxes.

Tita was quite a smother so I can see why Bruno avoided telling her about Almudena. However, he should have told her before coming home. She might have been a bit more polite when they arrived if she hadn't been taken by surprise.

Does anyone else think that the actress playing Ally was deliberately exaggerating the Castilian lisp (which, BTW, I can't stand)?

Does Bruno coming back from Spain with a bride mean that Gaby will end up with Nicolas?

If I were Isabel I would have slapped Aranza flat over her nasty remarks and made sure Lucha was there to watch.

Forgot to mention this before but does anyone else think that Isabel's pregnancy is timed by the writers for Feonando to kidnap the baby shortly after its born? His escape seems timed for that.

hmmm, UA Fernando might just do that or create complications during pregnancy. It has already played into what Daphne and Sonia has been telling Aranza about being replaced. Thankfully Art and Isabel didn't have a child when Aranza 12 or 13. Whew

I've been saying all weekend I think he's going to go after the baby. I just hope that's not the case. It looks to me like there may be revenge via Aranza and I am just conjecturing revenge via the pregnancy.

UA-it's not just they lisp, there is a "somewhere in the jowls" quality to Castillian that I can't describe, but yes, it does seem very exagerrated.

I can see Nicolas and Almudena ending up togeher. You know, compatriots drowning their sorrows.

I'm not sure if I outright dislike Ally, but I am indingnant for Gaby's sake.

Thank goodness for these recaps. I cannot thank you guys enough for taking the time to translate. Trying to learn Spanish again after having it in school for seis anos but miss the subtleties of the conversations. Would like to know if Tita has any relation to Art Dad other than as a friend of the family. missed the first couple of episodes and I feel I missed something with that possibly.
Have to say I feel so terrible for Gaby even though she was such a hard nose with Bruno all that time. I was hoping she would soften up and they would get together. Still hoping for that in the future. she deserves some happiness. Don't like ally much. she strikes me as a stuck up individual. Liking Martha Julia in this role.
Aranza's friend Ileana is so cute and Aranza needs to be sent to a convent!!!

I'm really struggling with this one suddenly. I have to like the characters to be willing to stick it out through the stupidity and likable characters in this one are now few and far between. Gil comes to mind and Andrea and Mau. The kids who were cute and interesting when little are snotty and boring as adults, Isa and Art are terrible parents either super strict or permissive. Gaby had her chance and threw it away and is now moping. Tita who I loved in the beginning was simply awful last night. She was unbelievably rude to Ally and created the tense dinner table scene. She was also snotty to Bruno when she told him she would have the guest room prepared until he and his wife could find a place to stay. She did redeem herself on that one later.

Yes, I understand she was hurt by Bruno's actions but the way I was raised was that you never dragged other people into something and under no circumstances made a guest feel unwelcome and uncomfortable and Tita did both.

I feel for Ally who arrives and is treated like dirt and on her first day in a new country with a suegra who obviously dislikes her is left alone. Spaniards do tend to look down on Mexicans and I think the writers are pointing this out by making Ally obnoxious.

I really wish I could care what happens to these people but I simply can't.

Sorry ladies have to add this Go Niners! LOL

Kathy:

Thanks for this awesome recap and the pics you put up. I vote for the raisin being the Sugar Daddy, lol. Also liked the pic of the elephant.

So Ara is showing her true face. I feel so sorry for Isa who is stuck between Art and Ara, she can't win for losing. Funny how Art won't listen to reason with this punishment, but I agree he is a little too late. He really should have done this years ago. Course Isa never told him half of what Ara did. Isa should have told him.

I worry for Mari and those kids being connected to Gonzo and Dante. No good can come out of this. I am glad Agatha befriended them though. I hope Agatha is in some way a savior for those two and the kids.

I had to laugh at Ozzie too and his crests. I think Balthazar's facial expressions are priceless. He keeps a very good eye on Ozzie and gives him great advice. And Ozzie is carrying the torch still for Tita. Funny how Gaby and Ozzie are somewhat alike aren't they? They both are carrying torches for the ones they love after all these years.

So-not is such an idiot I have to say. Helping Feo escape won't be good, but I take heart that eventually he's gotta be caught sometime and hopefully she goes down right along with him. He'll end up getting more time when he gets caught. I just dread what he and So-not will pull now, especially with Ara. She's already a wreck as far as Isa goes.

I too get the feeling that Ally is snobby and now she knows about Gaby. How will she treat Gaby now, since Gaby and Isa work with Art and Bruno?

I agree with Vivi about Ara's social graces, but the girl is a mess, all due to Son-not and now So-not is pushing Ara to give up Esteban. If Ara gives up Esteban, I really fear for her. Between So-not and Daphne working their mala advice on Ara, I really fear for her.

Thanks so much Kathy, for this fab recap.

What kind of name is Tassels? Was he the boy Marianela met when Cuca and Padre decided to pay a visit to her?

thanks, xint. I love your doggies in hats. so cute.

Decie and Mads...ditto to your remarks. I am getting frustrated with all the stupidity and evil . maybe we should retitled this shoe "People acting stupidly."

Gaby, too bad, too sad, you had ten years to contact Bruno and change your mind about your relationship with him. Now, he is the one who got away. Time to move on., and to quote our Carlos..NEXT ! Bruno, is that a revenge wife I see ? Yikes, you made your marital bed..now lie in it. NEXT. Tita, being rude will not make the situation better. Sometimes your kids make bad choices, and there is just not much you can do about it. No sense alienating Bruno even more. NEXT. Isa and Art, GEEZ, start talking and getting on the same page about Ara. You haven't done her or you or your family or the world in general any good by playing bad cop, good cop with her for ten years. Remember the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

I need the good folks in this show to get more screen time. I love Agatha, Mari! and Smiley Guaypo and hope that they do not get into any trouble...blunt know that they will.

Do we know what has happened to MeanieMin these last ten years ? Have she been on screen lately? I surf in and out of this show now that the angst is ankle deep.

Ah yes, that expert on ,real men" Soton is the perfect person to be giving out advice to young girls because she has such vast experience with "real men, like (headed for the ) In FERNO , her partner in crime and that California Raisin, her partner in...Blecchh..I do not even want to go there.

Xlnt---I wasn't prepared for line after line of great snark. Where to start?
She retreated to the kitchen with Zenaida to try to recover from both spice burns and frostbite.
My dad's tramp. YIKES!!!
What a good dog, he knows a bitch
when he sees one.
Maybe somebody in Spain mistakenly told her "don't eat the food" instead of don't drink the water."

Enchilades---they looked scrumptious. I'd take seconds if I could.

Oh No! Fernando gets out tonight.
He will really be out for revenge.
Isabel's pregnancy? Watch your back Isa.

I live in the LA area, Mexicans are everywhere. One day I was in line at the bank. In front of me two business men were talking. As
I listened, their conversation sounded so eloquent, not like the Spanish I was used to hearing, I was so impressed that I asked the men what language they were speaking? I was told that it was Castillian, a higher more refined
Spanish than the Spanish I was used to hearing in LA. It did sound more refined, very eloquent
the gringo

UA, I also dislike the Castilian lisp. I wouldn't visit Spain on a free trip just to avoid it. A couple parts of the theme music does it, too, which is why i dislike it. Ally is exaggerating it.
I'm glad Tita and Bruno figured it out in the end but
Bruno and Ally were dead wrong for marrying and not telling his family and then pop up all 'sorpresa'. That's why Tita was mad at her too for agreeing to such a harebrained scheme.

The theme is sung by David Bisbal. IIRC he was the runner up on a Spanish Idol type program.

I can handle the lisp it's the cottonmouthyness that gets me. I've never had issues with it when in Spain.

Sara

I lived in Spain for a while and have visited it recently and never heard the exaggerated TN Castilian. I think originally it was that bad but has softened over the ages. However I think the Mexican TN's like to exaggerated it as a reverse form of snobbishness.

I'm not saying the accent is not exaggerated. I'm just saying it's not the lisp that bothers me. It's the other quality that I just can't describe. I don't remember my abuelo's Spanish sounding that way, but he was from Galicia and his first language was galego.

I am assuming Ally is doing a thick madrileño accent and I remember UA and I thinking the writers went out of their way to use lots of Cs and Zs in Nick's dialogue. I'm sure you are right about the reverse snobbery.

Somewhere on you tube is a video from a Spanish show where they asked people in Spain what there favorite accent in Spain was. It was fun to hear their opinions and imitations. And was it here on Caray that someone shared the Curso Dandalu video?

Been thinking about Bruno's revenge marriage. I don't think that is true. Frankly as much as I hate to admit it revenge marriages are more a female thing. Correct me if I'm wrong gringo but I can't think of any man getting married to stick it to some other woman.

I also am coming to think that Bruno was very hurt when he went to Spain and he didn't want any contact with the folks in Mexico lest he hear anything about Gaby. By ignoring everyone, rightly or wrongly, he gave himself time to heal grow up and move on. By that point the loss of contact with his past was so ingrained he never thought about doing anything about it. Considering how everyone is acting at this point he may have been smart.

Decie Girl- I agree with your assessment of why Bruno did not mention Ally to the folks back home. He was destroyed by Gabi, and he did not want any reminders of her, did not want to discuss them probably getting back together, nada. He wanted to move on with his life, and punto. Did he go about it the wrong way? Yes. Was he wrong to spring a wife on his mom? Yes. But he didn't owe Gabi any explanations or considerations, and he doesn't owe his friends any explanations either. It's his love life. They need to butt out.

I haven't seen what's so terrible about Ally. Her main concern about the en-chil-ladas was that they had chiles, which her tame Spanish pallet could not take. And she was right. She was in the kitchen with Zenaida trying to find something that would stop the burning of her mouth. And, she has a right to be miffed at the way everyone was treating her, and to be thrown off to hear that her hubby's ex, whom she'd never heard of, who broke his heart and drove him to Spain, came to the airport to receive him. She must know that Gabi's intentions went beyond friendly now. I'm not willing to write her off as evil just because she's a bit awkward about this whole strange situation.

From the argument of Art and Isa, it's clear that HE has been the one being the disciplinarian all these years, while Isa has been the pushover. It’s clear that this is not the first time he's scolded or punished Ara. Not sure where folks are getting that, when Art said this has been a pattern over the years.

I don't think Art's problem is recognizing when Ara has done something wrong and disciplining. His mistake is in thinking that she’s fine and doesn't need any help when everything is going right (at least when he doesn't know things are going wrong), and not being able to look at the deeper underlying reasons for why she's acting out when things go wrong. And Isa's mistake is in thinking that as long as she keeps quiet about all the times Ara has acted out in her presence, Ara will finally begin to love and accept her.

Demetrios- When Mari first met El Borlas in the orphanage, he told her that he was named that because the blanket he was found in (when he was abandoned as a baby) was covered in tassels.

Several days ago I called it revenge but realize I was incorrect then and certainly now after consideration and reading everyone's post. I don't think it was a marriage for revenge but not telling was more a passive/aggressive "in your face" upon his return. He was hurt by Gabis rejection but also came to the realization he was sheltered and a mamas boy and needed to make his way as a man. Like he went off to war a boy and returned triumphant. Expecting to return and Ally not discovering the little tidbit about Gabi was a little dense.
This is a TN and imagine Ally to come out with a chip on her shoulder swinging. What is bothersome for me is the number of people that are not evil incarnate but their bone headed actions do so much damage. Guess at the end there will be a big scratch & dent sale.

I just couldn't resist putting in the pictures. I had to talk my dogs into wearing the hats. They weren't too sure of what I wanted, but after a few "good dogs" they cooperated. Sara inspired me with her Victor Borge lookalike comment. And the elephant, it just fit.

I'm not good at picking out accents in a foreign language, but Ally's accent is hard to miss.

I can't get over the fact that Bruno never told anyone he was married. He must not even have said he was dating because you know Tita would have asked all kinds of questions.

El Borlas! I could not remember his name, but I knew his nickname was Tassels. Thanks Vivi!

Decie Girl, Hawks and Niners! It should be a rumble. I've never been to a game but my hubby goes as a technician for a local station. He says the noise at Century Link field is truly UnBelieveAble.

I for one hope we get to see more pictures of your doggies :)

I don't dislike Ally at all but if you're gonna live your life your way, you can't re-enter your family and friends' life and spring a marriage on them and not expect them to freak out...It's rude. It makes you question your friendship with such a person. If after six years with thus woman he couldn't tell family and friends thousands of miles away about his new love, he has issues that he still haven't resolved. It's also unfair to Ally.

I don't think you can love someone enough to marry them and not share that with people close to you esp if you've lived with them for five years and married to them ten months...that just speaks of a relationship on a shaky foundation. Plus the fact he married a woman who is in personality just like Gaby.

I've given up on art and Isa-they're shortsighted and codependent when it comes to ara. They should've never gotten married to my mind and I never understood their attraction to each other other than they're both good looking. It does seem as if they're in a good cop/bad cop routine where Isa can never lay down the law on ara lest she be seen as a usurper, which ara already sees her as.

Thank you, xintperuvian for the most excellent recap. I love, love, love the pictures. The dogs are adorable, the sugar daddy is hilarious and the elephant in the room is so on point.
Hahaha- Gilberto's avocado abode.
I agree- Tassels does look like a young Eduardo Yanez- yummy!!!!!
Tofie- that's true about Bruno- he shot himself n the foot. There is no passion between he and Ally and deep down inside she knows it too.
Yes- UA- Ally was exaggerating her accent and OMG- UA- you may be right about the pregnancy.
Add me to the camp that thinks that Ally is not evil, she is just someone who is in the dark.

I've heard about that noise level and since we are getting reports that the Hawks are refusing to sell tickets to people with Cali mailing addresses the feeling is it is being done to increase the level. Folks in Cali are thinking boycott Starbuckas.

Home field noise levels are nothing new, you wouldn't believe the noise and energy levels at UA basketball games. All part of the fun and Sunday should be a war.

I agree Art and Isabel are both in a rebound relationship and shutter to see what the two of them have created when the child comes. I don't even like seeing either of them on the screen and don't take them serious perhaps they will be pushed into the background like Andy and Mau.

When we talk about the appalling bad manners of everyone last night what a surprise to see Arabrat try and act like a civilized human being. It still strikes me odd that not one of the others even thought for a minute that Ally has given up her family, her friends, her culture and Country to live in Mexico. Bruno runs off to the office, Tita heads for her hog and the poor woman is left to her own devices on her first day in a strange country. I wouldn't blame her if she turns into a raving bitch or packs her bags and returns to Espana

So true!

I also find it amazing that Bruno and Tita wouldn't have seen each other all this time. They're not exactly paupers.

UA, the paupers comment about Bruno and Tita was spot on! My hubby thinks exactly the same thing! While I don't understand Bruno, I really don't understand Ally. As a bride, wouldn't you at least want your husband to send a picture of the wedding to his mother? Something is very, very weird about this situation on both sides. I wonder if Ally used Bruno to get out of Spain for some reason?
