Por siempre mi amor #35 1/22/14: Look Before You Leap, For Snakes Among Sweet Flowers Do Creep * German Proverb

 RECAP BY J DESDE NYC:

Ara admits she burned her Dad’s crib in a moment of craziness but she swears on the memory of her mother she didn’t send the snake.  Isa says she knows Ara didn’t send the snake since she knows Ara would never swear falsely on her mother’s memory and she can see in her eyes she didn’t do it.  Ara provides more evidence she didn’t send the snake as she tells Isa that she went to Gaby’s apartment and had the concierge give her still photo of the person who left the snake.  The person’s head and face are covered, but it’s obvious it wasn’t Aranza. “Do you forgive me?” Ara says pleadingly to Isa. “As long as you forgive me for accusing you of sending the snake,” Isa says.  Isa also says she’s hurt by what Ara did with the crib but at least she recognized and admitted her error.  Ara hugs Isa sincerely even touches her stomach protectively as Isa looks on a bit skeptically. Ara says she’s sorry that she’s made Art and Isa fight.  Isa says Ara took the first step in her and Art reconciling by admitting she burned the crib.  Art loves both of them and will make up with them, says Isa.

Daniel and Don Hilberto are playing chess—Hilberto is winning—and Daniel questions Sucia’s sincerity in planning his party.  Hilberto says Danny shouldn’t doubt his half-sister (media-hermana)—darn! He IS Marinela’s uncle then—since her willingness to plan his party means she loves him.  Danny notes that the age gap between the two of them is large and he’s been overseas for school for most of his life, so he doubts Sucia loves him.  (The common sense is strong in this one!) Hilberto hides his well-coifed head in the sand as he asks Danny to change the subject so he won’t get upset with him.  Like a good soldier Danny obeys, but he’s still side-eyeing the idea that Sucia is harmless.

We’re back to Ara and Isa in the nursery as their heart-to-heart continues.  Isa reiterates that she doesn’t want to take Eugenia’s place, but she hopes Ara can consider her a friend and a mother since she will be the mother of Ara’s little brother.  Ara says Isa has always treated her as a daughter and Isa says she’s the daughter of her heart and despite everything (a pesar de todo) they’ve always been united as a family.  It’s all very touching as Ara promises to be grateful for her family and stop acting like an infant.  Just then Art shows up and says how happy to see Ara and Isa making up. Art asks Ara to leave the room so he and Isa can chat.  He asks Isa to forgive him too and they make up.

Ara calls Sucia outside the de la Riva home says she erased the surveillance tape showing Sucia as the one delivering the snake package.  Ara then pointedly asks Sucia if she intended to kill Isa with the snake. She emphasizes that she just thought Sucia meant to scare Isa, not kill her, since it’s one thing to scare someone, but killing them is a whole other kettle of fish.  (We have here, as Vivi said with Dafne and Isa, a mixture of falseness and truth re Ara and Isa.  Ara is growing to love Isa and doesn’t want her dead, but the resentment is still there.)  Sucia says she’ll explain to Ara in person what she meant. Ara goes back inside Casa de la Riva and shows Lucha the photo still of who sent the snake to prove she didn’t do it.

Este fulfills his promise to feed Grandma Meanie to get her soltar la sopa about his biological father. Meanie eats as if Mau and Andy are starving her—she even puts some of the jam and butter in her handbag to Este’s horror—and explains the whole Feo/Andy backstory to fair Este. Este wants the whole truth from Meanie since he already knows Isa and Feo were married.  Knowing this Meanie spills the beans saying that when Andy found out that Feo was a bigamist, Isa supported her and sent Este and Angelito to a good school.  “But did Feo ever take care of us”(hacer cargo de nosotros)? Minnie laughs and says that Feo was a desgraciado who took raped/ took advantage (abusar de) of your mother when she was a minor.  When she got pregnant with you and I found out, I planned to report him to the authorities he married her.  “He was a disgusting human being—may he rest in peace,” (porqueria de gente) Meanie emphasizes.

Ara tells Ileana and Dafne she told Isa and Art about her burning the crib.  Ileana says that she played the saint like Esteban, but Ara says she just wanted to make peace with Isa (llevar la fiesta en paz). She denies sending the snake and will deny it to the end.  She also tells Ileana and Dafne that Feo was married to Isa.  Dafne is shocked, but Ileana said she already knew since Este told her in confidence. Dafne says Ileana should have said something to them, but Ara says Ileana was right to keep Este’s secret since they are friends and it was said in confidence.  “And I would have done the same if you two had told me a secret,” Ileana says.  (Yay! I understood what these fresas said!)

Sucia tells Feo that Ara and Este are going out (andar con). He’s going to kill two birds with one stone and use Aranza and Esteban to get back at Andy and Isa.  He calls his son an imbecile. Ara and Este meet at the university and Este tells Ara he questioned his grandmother about Feo and Ara advises that Este turn the page on this part of his life since his grandmother told him Feo was a bad person. Our fair young protas get into a fight because Ara is hiding the fact that she’s going to Sucia’s and lies that she’s going to the gynecologist. Este wants to go with her, but Ara doesn’t want Este to be so possessive and asks him to leave her alone.

Ara goes to Sucia and sees Feo, digo, Javier, in his mask.  He looks ridiculous but is blatantly flirting with Ara. He says if he was fifteen years younger he’d try to go out with Ara.  He holds Ara’s hand and says the fact that her eyes went wide and her hands are sweating means that they could have a great affair (aventura) together. Sucia comes in and Feo leaves them to talk.  Ara asks if she tried to kill Isa because her rage (coraje) overtook her. Sucia says Ara is acting as if she put dynamite in the box.  How could Ara think she would kill someone?  In the meanwhile, Sucia flashes back to when she switched Eugenia’s pills with placebos which killed her.  “If you only knew Aranza,” Sucia says to herself, “If you only knew.”

Bruno gets Tita’s carpenter to build a new crib just like the one Ara destroyed.

Padre asks about Mari in the market.  The florist tells him that Mari doesn’t have a fixed place where she sells but she’s always around.

At Casa Arte Isa tells Gaby about the delivery of the new crib and Isa asks Gaby if she’s ready for her date with Nicolas.  Gaby says yes since she and Bruno have no future.  “I would have loved to settle down with my soul mate (media naranja-the other half of my orange), but I’d be a fool to turn away the mango that is Nicolas.  (Seems like she’s saying she’s settling for Nicolas to my mind.)  Meanwhile at Art’s office, Nicolas, Art and Bruno are signing paper work on a business deal and Nicolas mentions that he’s going out with Gaby that night and he forgot if she liked Chinese or Japanese food best.  Bruno tells Nicolas that she loved Japanese more but he’s not sure if she’s still does. “I don’t believe you,” says Nicolas. “I’m going to take her to a restaurant I was recommended.” (Then why bring up the date to Gaby’s old pretendiente.  Are you just trying to throw shade? I don’t like that at all.)

Back at Sucia’s, Ara asks about her aunt’s handsome friend Javier (Blech!). Ara wants a picture of him so she can stop imagining what he looks like. Sucia says she’ll draw Ara a picture and then invites Ara to Daniel’s coming out party, which has a disguise theme, since Javier will be there. Ara says she’ll be there with bells on. Ara says she likes Javier because he treats her like a woman and not a little girl.  Sucia agrees that Ara is very mature because she’s surrounded by older people in her life-Art, Isa, Ozzie, Tita, etc, that have made her too mature for guys her age.  Ara asks Sucia if Dafne is right that Este is not right for her.  Sucia says she isn’t sure but that sometimes friends see things with more clarity.

Ileana and Este are discussing his argument with Ara and Ileana says this is something he can fix since he’s the most romantic guy she knows. He can show or give Ara something thoughtful (detallada) that will win her back.  He thinks up a mariachi serenade (serenata) but then remembers he doesn’t have the money for that.  Ileana says it doesn’t have to be expensive because Ara fell in love with Este because of his thoughtfulness (detallista), but he has to think of something and she’ll help him.  She shoots down flowers and candy and they think up something together.

Art and Isa discuss names for the baby. Art suggests Eugenio because Ara wanted it in honor of Eugenia. Isa says no, they should name the baby something else—for once she’s stood up to Ara—suggesting naming the baby after Arturo and Art says no to Arturito.  He thinks they should name their son after Isa’s father, Miguel.  They agree even though the baby’s full name will be long and he won’t like it when he has to write it out at school: Miguel de la Riva Lopez Cerda.

After visiting the museum together Tita and Ally talk. Tita asks Ally when she’s going to give her grandbabies.  Ally says having a child is not on her list of priorities; she privileges her happiness.  Tita says kids give life happiness and she should have a child while she can.  Ally says women are having babies later in life and she can wait.  Tita tells her to rethink that because she should have babies when she can and not when her child will look like her grandchild.

Andy asks Angelito why he wants his birth certificate since the school says it’s not true that he needs it. Angelito lies that he’s starting a futbol team with friends and needs it. Andy tells him those sorts of things are important documents that need to be in a safe deposit box to keep them safe.

The padre finds out Mari’s address and tells Cuca who insists that he convince Mari to work in her grandfather’s house.  Cuca apologizes for her strong insistence on this to the priest. In the meanwhile Danny meets Mari again and they flirt.  Mari, though, asks why Danny is being so kind to her. Buying all her merchandise the first time was kind (gracioso) but again would be suspicious.  Fin de capitulo.

Este gives Ara a car serenata

Thank you J for your comprehensive recap.
I'm glad that MeanMinne told Esteban the truth about his sprem donor.
The scene with Ara and Feoavier was "eye rolling" worthy and stomach churning. Ewwwww!
How dememted are Sucia and Feo??? It's mindboggling. Poor Esteban, he is in for a wild run. Imagine, competing with his father for his girl.
Hahaha- Nick was throwing shade to Bruno and we are all watching him sweat.
Sooo, Ally doesn't want children. Sounds like Bruno settled for his "mango" too.

Love this! That title is great and the recap filled with details, which I needed since hubby thought talking to me was a good idea. Between the cat and hubs I missed a lot of my shows last night. *grumble grumble*

I am definitely going to watch this on an empty stomach from now on. The Ara/Feoavier plot is gross. Ew. Ew. Ew.

I don't know how I feel about Tita being so insistent about grandchildren. I thought she was kind of rude about it.

On my TV, the English closed captions were missing last night on all Univision telenovelas including this one. I am on the Dish network. In the past, the English captions were very good (much improved over the past few months). But last night, there would be one caption when you first tune to the program, then nothing at all for the rest of the show.

Did anyone else have problems seeing the English closed captions?

Corazon, thank you for yesterday’s amazing recap. You have mad recapping skills and provided us with an amazing array of memorable lines.

J, this was excellent, beginning with the title. The embedded vocabulary was a treat and greatly appreciated. This was exceptionally detailed and as always, really enjoy your commmentary. "Like a good soldier Danny obeys, but he’s still side-eyeing the idea that Sucia is harmless" was my favorite line but "Then why bring up the date to Gaby’s old pretendiente. Are you just trying to throw shade?" was a close second.

Like you Tablet jefa and Sara, I was literally sickened by Feo trying to charm Ara. And, even more revolting is the fact he is succeeding! My eyes are burning. Ack.

If mooching a free breakfast from Esteban was the worst Meanie did, I could easily let her slide. But she is ruthless and cunning and fear her newly found gambling addiction will be the ruination of her family.

Cuca and the Padre should give up their ridiculous notion to have Mari working at Don H's. It's been said before - find out if she is indeed Sonia's child and therefore entitled to be a member of the family. Period.

Isa is so trusting. Ara is sure to do something diabolical (again) so I'm thinking their new relationship may be short lived.

Diana

Great work, Tablet Jefa.

Can anyone identify the snake? Was it actually poisonous?

Whether she is redeemed or not the look on Aranza's face when she finds out that Sonia killed her mother will be priceless.

Sara. I hope your kitty gets better soon. My cats are my babies and this is never easy.

I agree that Tita was rude about the grandchildren thing. However, she's kid stuff compared to the mother in this story. As to Almudena's viewpoint, it's refreshing. I really have difficulty thinking that all women in any country are eager to become pregnant right after the honeymoon.

Your title says it all!

Aranza - lust at first sight

Esteban - you are history already buddy but will be the last to know. better you find out now her head so easily turned by a little swagger

Fernando - you got game, I give you that

Tita - I like you but your goal of grandkids is not your decision to make and I am miffed at you. You turning on Ally is ridiculous

Art, Isabel, Gabi, Bruno - Don't care

Dan - I hope you and Esteban can become buds. The women of your dreams out of reach

Ileana - wish we knew more about you

Meanie - come on, don't ultimately use Esteban to clean up your mess

It is hard to watch Aranza frothing at the mouth over Fernando and had they not had breaks in the encounter was about to change the channel

On last night's episode:

Isabel has good reason NOT to trust Aranza, watching Isabel's body language was "I know this girl is up to no good."

Esteban: poor dude is gonna get suckered by hid his own pops, Feo, whose already planning on being with Aranza.

Dafne: She's obviously gunning for Esteban

Art: boring

Thanks for the complements,guys!

Tita and the grandbabies schtick: This is a Mexican TN, the only better than amor in this universe are babies. We're no where near the babystealing from the unwitting mistress to get an heir like in the 1980s classic 'Cuna de Lobos'.

I'm guessing Ally won't give her nietos but Mari's kids will be Tita's nietos.

thank you, J. I am still trying to understand how pretty young Ara could possibly prefer Feo Favier to guaypo Este. QUE? In what universe would that happen. In fact, I cannot see Favier as a guy who women swoon over. And now with that face that looks like he just took a beating...que?

I hope nothing happens to the bebe.

do not even get me started on MeanieMin. What a lazy mooch.

I am worried about Dante trying to seduce Mari. Bleeccchhh ..so many villains,

I doubt Mari could even be seduced by Fernando much less Dante.

Aranza was already crushing on Fernando after the first meeting and how convenient to have a dust up with Esteban over possessiveness when you couldn't wait to see him again.

Unfortunately, as sometimes in real life, a cad is preferred

Esteban, please don't humiliate yourself trying to woo back that which was never deserving of you and like her aunt will bounce from man to man.

With Aranza questioning the prospect of murder with Sonia's stunt with the snake, I wonder if a stunt of Aranza's could result in a death and she be able to absolve herself of responsibility.

I really need someone to pick up a goody, good gun and go after some bad guys.

"...so many villains"

I'm probably splitting hairs, but right now I feel like Sonia, Favier and Ara are our only real villains. (Little regard for human life.)

The rest are just self-serving scum.

Aranza may be more afraid of the prospect of being caught than of committing a murder. She is becoming more like Sonia all the time, down to the facial expressions.

It's no big stretch to imagine her future as a Sugar Baby rather than as a woman with a career.

Maybe, I'm being too lenient on Aranza and her capacity for murder and it wouldn't be the result of a stunt gone wrong. I recall that look of wonder, glee and revulsion Sonia had on her face when she knew Eugina was dead from her actions. Perhaps Aranza will slip into this realm the same way.

Will this TN allow Aranza to fall so far, never to be redeemed?

J thanks so much for the lovely recap. Your title was spot on as well.

ITA w/Sara, there are so many villains in this tn its hard to watch. And Susanlynn is so right. In what world does Feo, even w/a new nose, look better than his son?

tofie, good question about Ara. She keeps going further over to darkness so I'm really not sure.

Thanks TJ---A great title for last night.

Susanlynn---Aranza said it. She sees Feo/Javier as a "mature" man.
Looks like "immature" Esteban is on his way out.

Tofie---Lust at first sight? LOL
She only saw the mask of Zorro.

Gobluefan---I don't get English captions.

What kind of snake? I tried to look for snakes of Mexico. The closest picture I could find was a common garter snake. There are different ones but a couple of pictures looked like the one last night, which makes sense, as I don't think they would bring a poisonous snake on the set.
the gringo

Great recap, J!

First day back in the office this week, so not a ton of time to comment. I don't think Ara would become evil enough to kill. It just seems that the writers have redemption in mind for her, but not before she makes a LOT of mistakes.

Gringo pointed out what the attraction is to Feo-- he's a man (and all the danger and excitement that brings), and Este is a boy. Feo even pointed it out when he said to her that she's only experienced Prince Charming (el Principe Azul), and he's the Big Bad Wolf (el Lobo Feroz).

Meanie made me laugh, stuffing all the condiments into her purse. Really classy, Min!

I guess we didn't need to spend all that time yesterday debating how Dan is or isn't related to Sonia and Mari. Dan and Gil got that out of the way really quickly. And then of course the epi ends with Mari and Dan having another flirty meetup. Incest alert!

Aranza is quite taken with Fernando and asked Sonia if she had a photo and that she was trying to imagine how he looks without the mask.

It's clear that Aranza wants him and her decision and had better not whine later saying she was tricked or seduced trying to get Esteban back.

Contract her behavior to Mari who easily sees Dante for what he is (now I agree he not as suave as Fernando). I fear for Mari she will not be able to make the decision but Dante will take.

Karen said "...there are so many villains in this tn its hard to watch."

Lots of baddies, true, but I still like to watch.

I think even Este was taken aback at Min's pilfering of the condiments.

I am going to hope that Mari is NOT Sonia's as we all assume.

Sara...yes! it would be great if sweet Mari was actually not Sono's offspring. That would clear the way for her to end up with Dan who seems to be a good guy.

I need Favier to receive a giant anvil before this novela ends. He really creeps me out. I am so happy that nurture outweighed nature in this case , and Este is the extreme opposite of his biological father. I would like Este to not end up with Ara , but I think that he will after she is redeemed somehow before the end.

I am not happy with Ara right now at all, but I'm pretty sure she is not capable of killing. She's just so willing to do what Sono tells her to do. That's scary.

Favier is really creepy. Throughout the show we've marveled about how anyone would fall for someone so unattractive, but I think it's because he is willing to listen and make a gal feel special. I also think Isa has kind of low self esteem, and I definitely think Aranza has some deep seeded issues that have made her so easy to manipulate. Oh wow...I'm so dense...she definitely has daddy issues!!!

Please don't let Mari be Sono's. She and Daniel are so cute together.

So Mari and Esteban could also be half siblings as well as Mari and Danny. What would that make Esteban and Danny? Oh god.

If Mari is both Sonia's and Feo's child then she and Este would be siblings through Feo. And Dan is her uncle through Sonia. That would not make Este and Dan related. But they are both nice guys.

ViviDC Thanks,I'm way over thinking this. I just took a few Motrin

Wow, Vivi, just when we thought this TN could not be more incestuous, it does. I also don't think Ara is capable of murder. The way she questioned Sucia about what she intended with the snake tells me that she might resent Is a, but she wouldn't kill her. Ara made it clear that to her mind destroying objects is one thing, but physically hurting someone is another. It explains why she hasn't killed Isa in her sleep.

I also believe Ara is starting to accept the fact of the baby but Sucia is like the bad angel on her shoulder tempting her to go farther than she would fo left to her own devices.

It's still disturbing and immature for Aranza to destroy the crib. Had Isabel become pregnant on the honeymoon this would have been more plausible. Is everybody asleep at the switch here?

Aranza destroyed the crib, lied and pointed toward Isabel as the culprit, caused discord but then apologizes. Art and Isabel are so grateful she receives no punishment but praise for telling the truth.

Bad behavior is rewarded for the sake of harmony

Urban, Sonia's got Aranza in too deep and sooner or later, the truth about Eugenia's death will be revealed when this TN ends

Thanks for a great recap J! Feo has spent his life sponging off women (remember there were others besides Isabel and Andrea) so he has his technique perfected. He knows where the weaknesses are. It was sickening to watch that interplay between him and Aranza. Arturo has been an absent father even though he's been in the same house all along. I wonder if we'll see the same type of interplay between Feo, Aranza and Dafne that we saw between Feo, Isabel and Gabi? My guess is that Dafne would be able to spot this guy for what he is the same way Gabi did.

Kathy- I would replace Dafne with Ileana to play the Gabi role. Dafne wants Ara to dump Este, so that she can have him for herself. I'm sure she'd be happy that Ara is moving on to some old dude.

I too have DISH and I had no problems with the CC3 (English) last night. Not sure what was up.

Anyhoo, I'm enjoying this TN so far. But is it me or does it seem like the Aranza/Sonja let's gang up and make sweet Isabel's life heck going to be dragged out into eternity?? I'm already bored with it. But I'll suck it up and endure it.

And if no one has heard by now "Pasion" is back on the air on Unimas. It airs at 10:00 a.m. to Noon CST M-F. My DVR is enjoying reliving this TN.

Stay warm wherever you may be!

Paula_TX

Paula, welcome to the thread-I've never heard from you before. Yes, the Sonia/Ara hatefest is old. I need more things to happen to keep my interest, but nothing too crazy. I'm still wondering how Favier is gonna pull off hiding his identity with only a nose job, if Andy and Isa will recognize him; that will require a major suspension of disbelief.
