De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #9- Thurs 3/20

De que cayó en la trampa, cayó en la trampa

Ugh…The Shrimp starts moving around Natalia to get a look from all angles.  He puts his arm around her and says they should talk salary over lunch.  Natalia thanks him, but says she doesn't think she's right for the job.  Run, Natalia, run!

Tadeo thought bubbles that he had a child with Irene.  He calls her at the house, but Lala says she's resting.  She goes upstairs and tells Irene that Tad called.  Irene, playing with the rose quartz, says Lala did the right thing, telling him she wasn't available.

Natalia tells her mom Carlos' buddy was a perv, so she turned the job down.  She doesn't want her mom to make a fuss.  She's going to call her boss' friend with the Internet café.

Diego asks Alonso to be Irene's doctor.

Tadeo calls back again, but Lala tells him repeatedly to back off, so Irene takes the phone, tells him to back off, and hangs up on him.

Ahhhhh…Carlos bought new luggage for Carmen.  Ding, ding, ding…another mystery solved.  The drugs are probably sewn into the lining.  Carmen tells him the other job was a better fit for Natalia.

Karina lets Alonso know that she found him an apartment.

Tadeo shows some of his art to a gallery owner, Cristobal.  He wants to use the guy to accidentally-on-purpose bump into Irene.  Cristobal invites her to the gallery to get her opinion on some art he's considering.

The Sexter and Diana suck face in a restaurant.  He proposes a getaway for the weekend.

As Irene is on her way to the gallery, she runs into Diego, who offers to drive her.  On the way, Diego tells her he's found her a therapist, well, Alonso.  Irene agrees to at least talk to him.

Natalia meets with her prospective new boss and they start going over the specs for the computers.  It'll take a couple of months before the place is up and running, though.

Inside the gallery, Cristobal mentions Tadeo's art, but Irene tells him she's not interested in anything to do with Tadeo.  When he shows up, Irene tells Cristobal she doesn't want to see Tadeo…so Cristobal makes himself scarce.  Um, no, Cristobal, you tool!  She doesn't want to see TADEO.  She tells him their daughter is dead, like her love for him, and she never wants to see him again.

Karina takes Alonso to see the apartment in her 'hood.  Which happens to be the same one Eleazar lives in.  They meet him as he's leaving.

Carmen is packing for her trip.  Brigitte the Brat has a shopping list for her.  Well, so far it's just some "Posh" leggings.  She's having delusions of European shopping trips when she gets a Carlos of her very own.

Grumpy Grandpa wants Diego to personally pick up the Johanssens at the airport tomorrow.  The fact that he agrees gives Diana an excuse to go hang out with her "cousin" without him.

Crap, crap, crap!  Irene goes to a bar, orders a drink, and tells the bartender to leave the bottle.  This is so sad.  Maybe she really does need to go back to Monterrey.  A gross guy hits on Irene, cause he likes women who drink alone.  She makes him pay for a bottle of the good stuff.  "What are you looking at?  You've never seen a thirsty woman?"  There's a special place in hell for this guy.  Who watches someone throw back a whole bottle like that and thinks "Score!" instead of "Maybe she needs help"?  He's impressed by how much she can put away.

The boys have made arrangements to cover the fonda while they take Carmen to the airport.  Carlos calls to tell her they can't fly together.  He needs to be there early in the morning.  He'll have a car pick her up at the airport.  Gee.  Isn't that sweet of him.

Eleazar brings his mom some sweet bread and picks up a jacket he'd left there.  While he's in the guest room, Carmen shows up to say goodbye to Luz and tell her about the trip to Miami.  Eleazar busts her chops about all the other losers she's dated before and Carmen tells him Carlos is Mr. Perfect.  When she leaves, Eleazar grouses to Luz that she's being naïve, that she can't be without a man.

Diego meets Gramps in his study and they chat about the Johanssens.  Oh, and also, Irene isn't in the house because she's probably out getting drunk again.  Nice, Grandpa.  Diego doesn't understand how he can be so hard on his own daughter.

Gross guy takes Irene to a hotel.  Before they get busy, she calls the house and tells Lala not to expect her for dinner.

Carmen gets home, in a crabby mood about Eleazar's attitude.  Natalia tells her to brush it off and try to enjoy her trip.

Lala tells the family that Irene won't be home for dinner.  She admits she thought Irene sounded a little tipsy.  Grandpa calls her a drunk yet again…oh, sorry, no, he actually said "alcoholic" this time.  Yeah, he said "What else can we expect from an alcoholic?"  Yeah, that is so not progress.

They're out of booze and out of cash.  Gross guy tells Irene to take his card.  CRAAAAAAAP!  Now she's going to get busted for theft too.

Jackie and The Shrimp are back on their usual couch at the bar.  Morales is the underling's name!  Sorry, yes, non sequitur, but I'm just happy to have figured it out!  Eleazar's grousing at him in the van.  He grouses a lot.  The Shrimp wants to get her alone, but he's interrupted by a call about a flight…he asks for the flight info.  Eleazar calls Jackie, who complains that her boss doesn't respect work hours.  She now gets to make the excuse that she has to prepare some contracts for first thing in the morning.  The Shrimp wants her to think about quitting and letting him be her Sugar, uh, Shrimp.  The rat bastard calls up some other broad.  Oh, you think you're gonna do better than Jackie, huh?  What's this world coming to when a guy like The Shrimp has multiple skanks available to him for booty calls?

Irene goes to the liquor store and tells the clerk it's her husband's card.  Greeeeeat.

Jackie complains to Eleazar back at the office that he pulled her out too soon, but Eleazar didn't want to risk it.  He tells Morales to get a list of all the flights with "23" in the number.  They eliminate all the national flights and start making plans.

Irene gets back to the room, but the gross guy is gone.  "More for me."  No, Irene, no!  "And what if I don't wake up after this one," she asks, looking at the bottle.  Um, I'll cry is what.

At the airport, the Cop Crew aren't having a good day.  They're up to 5 flights and none of them is the one.

Irene's not having a good day either.  She's at least eating breakfast, but she's also drinking a beer.  And paying for it with the gross guy's card.  In front of a conveniently placed cop.

Diego is worried about Irene.  Superficial Diana days she's probably happy, you know, partying and stuff.  Diego has to explain to her that that's not the way it works.  He insists she hang out with her cousin as planned, and they go downstairs for breakfast before he goes to the airport.

The Garcias get to the airport.  Carmen has to be carried in by the boys when they tell her it's a three-hour flight.

At breakfast, Diana takes off early for her fun weekend.  Grumps makes the requisite homophobic comment about Oliverio's "friends."  And Irene calls to tell them she's in jail again.  But Diego has to go to the airport, so Grumps says he'll deal with Irene.  "NOW are you convinced there's nothing to be done about Irene."

Carmen gets checked in.  She's worried about the bags getting mixed up, but the agent at check-in assures her the bags will be labeled with her name.

Irene is trying to explain to the cop that she didn’t steal the credit card from the gross guy.  She tells the entire story, just the way it happened, and sadly adds "I'm an alcoholic, but I'm not a thief."  Vicente shows up and asks what he has to do to keep this from turning into a scandal.  The cop informs him that depends on the guy.  He goes to call him, leaving Irene with Vicente.  So he can complain about her sullying the family name and she can taunt him with "I only do it to piss you off."

They've found the drugs.  Craaaaaaaaap!  Not sewn into the lining, like I thought, but in a zippered compartment, behind a board at the back of the bag where the extending handle goes.  See, in my suitcase, the handle just sits there all lumpy, getting in the way, but with Carlos' ingenious invention, now you can pack your clothes in a flat and lump-free way and still make use of all that space between and around the extending handles to smuggle contraband.  I salute you, Carlos.  I salute you with one finger.  Now, I'm not going to tell you which one, but I'm sure a smart guy like you can figure it out.  Eleazar also makes a "Craaaaaaaaap!" face when he sees that it's Carmen's bag.

Carmen says goodbye to the kids, stalling to avoid getting on the plane.  She's surprised to see Eleazar on the other side of the security scanner, and even more surprised to hear that he's arresting her for drug trafficking.

Tomorrow: The kids watch their mom get hauled off; Diego bumps into Natalia yet again.

The whole storyline with Irene is just so sad. This whole episode was sad. And tomorrow we'll be back to Natalia and Diego and their vague conversations about "what you did" and "it wasn't so bad." Is it horribly inappropriate for me to want a drink?

Not inappropriate at all, I'd like to down one back myself. You churn these out fast Diva way to go! I think the 3 primary goals so far are: 1. Diego and Natalia talk and find out it was all a big, horrible misunderstanding 2. Diana and Whats-His-Name get caught 3. Irene gets some help. I think Rodrigo will get introduced back into the show somewhere in the middle of that. Still wondering when he's coming back.

Thanks, 5ft. For your recap of a depressing episode. Things are sliding downhill fast .

I hope that Irene hits bottom soon so that she can be saved soon. I hate to say this, but I would like to see Eleazer end up with Irene. Those two actors were such good friends in Pasion. They have great chemistry together, but in Pasion they did not became lovers. Sorry, Carmen.

Thanks, 5ft. Another winner. I loved the one finger salute line.

Susanlynn-I actually had the same thought about Eleazar and Irene last night. I think they would make a better pair.

Yes, a very sad episode last night. I hope we can get the Diego/Natalia misunderstanding out of the way soon.

I'm still trying to decide about Tadeo. So far he seems genuinely upset about the baby, but as someone mentioned before...this actor usually plays oily snakes.

Kat, another marvelous summary.
This was strewn with gems including “She's having delusions of European shopping trips when she gets a Carlos of her very own” and “See, in my suitcase, the handle just sits there all lumpy, getting in the way, but with Carlos' ingenious invention, now you can pack your clothes in a flat and lump-free way and still make use of all that space between and around the extending handles to smuggle contraband. Excellent!

And, "Is it horribly inappropriate for me to want a drink?" Under these depressing circumstances? No, not at all. I will meet you and Cassandra at the bar.

Susanlynn, a Eleazer and Irene pairing would be wonderful (still smiling from the Pasion finale)...

Sara, I think Tadeo might be sincere. Not feeling any chemistry between him and Irene though.

Thanks again Kat!

Carmen is too old to be acting so silly. And so is Eleazar for not stepping to her and expressing an interest in her.

Carmen's alarm bells should've gone off when 167 year old Carlos took her "necking" in a pickup truck in a field. If he has all this money to be "buying" houses and trucks & doling out Diamante rings, surely he had enough money to take her to a hotel or better yet, his home.

Is Karina a real estate agent? If not, why not?

Was Irene sober in Monterrey? If not, it doesn't really matter if she's in Monterrey or Mexico. I guess Grumps doesn't care as long as she gets gone.

Gracias, all :D

Irene and Eleazar together wouldn't suck. And there's precedent for long-lost-loves to NOT end up being together in the end, so it's still possible.

Whenever Rodrigo comes back, I predict that IS going to suck. I don't expect him to have undergone a personality change. I have horrible visions of him teaming up with Brigitte the Brat to cause trouble.

Karina somehow has contacts or friends who are in real estate, possibly from a previous job. Was she an agent, though, or doing admin work? She sucks at her current job, so I can't imagine what jobs she would have had in the past, but I can clearly imagine why she doesn't have them anymore!

The implication, if we trust Irene, is that she was sober for years until seeing Tadeo that night. It seems to me that this is too much for her--both seeing him and having to deal with her father. I would hope that if he realized he had this effect on her, he wouldn't have pulled the bait-and-switch with Cristobal. Showing up at the house wasn't as bad since Diego was there. So if she went back to Monterrey and Tadeo left her alone, and she went back to her regular AA meetings, she might be OK. But she could also be OK in DF, if she finds a meeting (and where is her sponsor?) goes to therapy, maybe finally explains things to Tadeo so he knows why he needs to back off. Of course, Vicente would continue to be a problem, as I suspect that even if she's not drinking, he's not going to let up on the verbal attacks.

Tadeo might be a decent guy, but he seems a bit ME ME ME ME ME for me:

When he got the scholarship abroad and Irene was trying to tell him she was pregnant, he didn't want to hear anything she said because it was all about ME ME ME ME ME

When Grumps told him Irene was messed up because he left her pregnant & abandoned & the baby died, he called Irene, was told she was sleeping, then called 5 minutes later and asked for her again. MEEEE!!!

I understand it's shocking to learn you had a child with someone 20+ years ago and the kid died and you want to learn more. I get that. But I'm pretty sure Tadeo would've kept calling and calling and calling and calling THAT NIGHT until he got answers.

He seems a little too into himself for me.

Lol! Good point about Tadeo! He said it himself--"Nothing would stop me from going." And now I'm afraid we're going to get a "Nothing will stop me from learning the truth, cuesta lo que cuesta!" even if that's Irene's well-being.

So I've been ruminating about Carmen all day.

I'm not sure I like her. I mean, I like her kids so clearly she did a good job...but dayum how naive can you be? Kudos to her for brushing off Carlos' truck-bed advances, but she gushed over the ring...and that just really felt like "Hey, if I give you a ring will you boink me?"

So maybe I don't dislike her, but I'm finding her a bit annoying.

Also, when Irene saw Tadeo at the exhibition she was very upset, and when he went to the Caceres house to speak to her she was very distraught. When he called her, was told she was sleeping, then called her again 5 minutes later and she screamed at him. Then she sees him at Cristobal's house and is very distraught again (and this time after telling him his daughter is dead) It seems like it would dawn on this guy that Irene gets very upset when she sees him but it doesn't compute.

Tadeo is all about Tadeo and I feel like he's going to keep pushing and digging all to satisfy his needs.

And he was probably that way when Irene was dating him, too.
