I pinky swear, this is the last favor I'll ever ask you for... Lo que la vida me Robo 91 March. 19th.2014

Ah, friends in the patio, have a seat, make yourselves comfortable as I tell you a tale, a tale about a bad, bad man named Pedro Mendoza, his crimes are many, his testicles few and word on the street is that he has no heart, personally I think he suffers from chronic constipation-this would explain the way he talks, maybe this medical condition is the reason that he is a bad, bad boy. We will come back to Pedro soon, I promise.

However, first we will talk about Fabiola, a woman that has many problems, she hits the bottle hard, if you know what I mean, and she also has a terrible hair cut, frankly I'm more concerned about her bad hair than I am about her drinking problem, I mean, who needs a working liver when you look like that? Anyhoo, she has just bullied poor Amelia into telling her the truth: her parents adopted her and she realizes that that's why her uncle left her alone at a foreign boarding school, he did not love her because she did not have his blood running through her veins, little does she know that she is actually his daughter. Fabiola throws a fit, which prevents poor Amelia from running after Virginia, her often over looked and neglected daughter. This will have serious consequences, as poor Virginia runs into Adolfo, who takes her home, drugs her with the help of Maria and takes staged photos of her tied up in the living room, the photos will be sent to bad boy Pedro who will use them in order to blackmail her father.

Angelica, don't leave us!

Angelica, a beloved friend and wife is not in good shape, she is in the hospital on a ventilator as she can't breathe on her own, this makes everyone on the patio tear up, we all know that she did not want to return to the hospital, she was tired of all the medical procedures and simply wanted to live out her last remaining days with her husband who is now by her side whispering to her, asking her to stay with him and telling her that he loves her and when this was happening I had the tissues out, and I was praying to the telenovela gods for a miracle. Later, Refugio, Jose Luis's other soul mate comes to chat with his buddy (why is he bringing this to Jose Luis now, can't he see he has other, more pressing matters to worry about?)-he tells Jose Luis that he has spoken to Montse, and that she has been informed that there was been no confession from her husbands alleged accomplice, they need to find a way to get this information to him before he signs a confession admitting to a crime he did not commit. He also tells Jose Luis that while Montse is uber angry at him but on the bright side she does not hate him. Yay?

Angelica was removed from the ventilator and is looking better-I think, she over hears the conversation that Refugio is having with Jose Luis- she hears him say that their only hope is to get Joaquin to take back his statement where he claims that Alejandro was part of the drug trade operation, Refugio suggests taking Angelica to the jail to speak to her father in hopes of getting her to make him see the light. Jose Luis does not like this idea,  Angelica is sick and fragile! She speaks up and begs him to take her to the pokey, she wants out of the hospital and she wants out now!

In the hospital lobby Amelia is taking to her husband, she tells him that Angelica is on her death bed and this makes Joaquin cry like a baby. She makes things worse by telling him that life is a funny thing, that while he turned out to be a scum bag, Jose Luis turned out to be a good man who is looking after his daughter, she tells him that he is the only one to blame for the separation of the family, it was he who refused to be a part of his daughters life and now it's too late to mend fences. Joaquin tells her that she is right and asks her to ask Angelica to forgive him, she tells them that she hopes Angelica forgives him but that she will never forgive him for all the things he has put her family through, oh and by the way Virginia ran away from home, bye! Joaquin is left in tears.

Dude be a hero

Alejandro sees a torn up Joaquin and approaches him, the two men talk and Joaquin tells him that his princess, who always viewed him as a hero is dying. Alejandro uses this moment to try and talk some sense into Joaquin, he tells him that his daughters grew up having their father in their lives and that he wants to be there for his son, he wants to be a hero for his boy and begs Joaquin not to take this from him. Joaquin softens and promises to make things right.

And then Pedro comes along

Pedros minion, EZ has failed to get a confession from the drug lord and now Pedro has to go to plan B, he visits Joaquin and asks him for one small and final favor: could he like, kill himself? Joaquin is all like WTF man, why would you ask me to do that? Pedro tells him that he can't allow him to live that's too much of a liability and then he shows Joaquin the pictures that Al and Maria took of Virginia, he tells Joaquin that if he wants his daughter to be returned safely he will do as he is told, he is to write a suicide letter and leave it somewhere where the guards can find it.Joaquin tells him he will do it, but he asks for a favor in return, his baby girl is about to die and he wants the chance to say good-bye to her. Pedro, his heart cold as ice tells him that won't be possible, but look I got you some nice paper so you can write both your girls a farewell letter. Dude, there's a special place in hell for you..

Join us tomorrow when Joaquin bites the dust!

Hi Eli. Thanks for taking one for the team. This was a total bummer of an episode. Not one bright spot in the whole dratted hour. But you lifted the mood with your puckish take on things...like "who needs a functioning liver with a haircut like that?"

Don't really find Fabiola's hair that bad...after all we've been loving Josefina for ages in spite of her scrambled egg coiffure...but Fab certainly helped set in motion a wretched turn of events.

And now I'm bummed and heartbroken about Ohio State too. Sorry, Nanette. We sure didn't help your bracket either. Sob.

This telenovela is in the dark dark doldrums right now. And so am I!

But enjoyed your recap Eli. Thanks.

Very cute title, by the way. I HATE PEDRO.

Pedro Mendoza? Is he the bastard son of Lauro or what? xD.What the hell,Pedro has no testicles,no heart,no mercy,is he even a human being?

This must be the most depressing TN I've ever seen. The majority of the characters just seem hell bent on hurting each other and the evil in Pedro is unsurpassed.

Not sure I can watch it any more despite all of the good acting.

OMG, did I get his last name wrong?! Aaaaah!

Thanks, Eli! Great dramatic summary. Funny title.

One minor correction...Pedro's last name is Medina, not Mendoza. I think Montserrat would be horrified to have him associated with her family!

"So, little favor, could you just, like, kill yourself real quick?" I hope Joaquin pulls an Edmund Dantes type trick and fakes his death to escape. Then he can help bring down Pedro and then maybe die saving his family or JL or something. At the very least, he should have tried to work a hidden message into that suicide note.

Poor Virginia. At least they aren't really hurting or scaring her (so far).

JudyB: I couldn't believe it! The guys are rubbing it in that they lost in the final seconds. When I came in this morning I was tied for first with game wins and now this. Very anticlimatic. :(

Guess I'll have to wait until our soccer pool this summer to be excited again.

This TN is way too depressing.

Nanette

I'm going to be very disappointed in JL if after all this with Angelica (he even said "te amo" to her!), he goes right back to pining over Montserrat. It looked like he was finally realizing that he is more in love with Ange than he ever was with Montse. But in the previews, he was being a jerk again to Ale.

I didn't really like how unresponsive he was to Ange's wishes. When she said "get me out of this hospital and take me home" he should have immediately gone to get her discharged, not sat there telling her to calm down and blah blah blah. Feeling like no one is listening to her and keeping their promises is sure to stress her out more.

Julia: I was hoping that scene in the avances with JL and Ale was a dream sequence of Ale's.

Eli – Perfect title, terrific recap. I am in awe of how you smoothly cut to the chaste and provide rich details. My favorites:

"Pedro Mendoza, his crimes are many, his testicles few..."

“who needs a working liver when you look like that?”

"Dude be a hero"

I felt like Angie was talking to Viewerville when she told JL they both knew this would happen and he moaned sadly "but not so soon." I'm stilling hoping for a miracle. Angie, don't leave me with only Monse and Nadia to root for. Oh, yeah, there's Fina. Come on, Fina, brush your hair and stand up to Graciela. Plus, you're smart enough to see through EZ and tip off Tia.

Surely Joaquin realizes that if he commits suicide he has no way of knowing what Pedro does with Ginny or the rest of his family. Joaquin, speak up. Tell Ale and JL the truth.

Okay so we have Darth Perver( Pedro) ,Stinky (Ezequel ,)Lady Malaria( Maria) and Ms Sauron( Graciela) . Who wins now?

I too think JL's snarling in the advances is Ale's nightmare. It's too soon for that rivalry to heat up again.

I can understand JL's hesitancy in letting Angie leave the hospital. He knows her wishes, but he wants her to live. It's tough to know when to urge a love one to continue fighting and when to support them in their wish to let go and suffer no more.

ODIO A PEDRO MEDINA! LO ODIO CON TODAS MIS FUERZAS!!!!

Waaaaah! I want Pedro to eat a red hot anvil NOW!!!!!

Even fantasy eeevil like this cannot be good for one's heart! What bunkers of refuge do we have?

Eli. Thank you my dear. I'm going to go back and read your recap now. I just had to emote!

Ok: let me think of two positive things from last night's episode.

Um. . .oh yeah, Ale's hair sho do look purty to be in the slammer!

Joaquin has a lovely print hand to be writing under the extreme duress of fear for his own and his daughter's lives.

Ah! Here's a third: Angelica probably has the prettiest false eye lashes and the most beautiful manicure in the whole hospital. Doctors Nurses included.

Okay. I feel better. I know it's going to be a treat Eli just from the title!

Lila

Niecie: I've only been scanning this one and reading the recaps/comments, but I thought it was a bit abrupt for JL to be like that with Ale. Didn't the avances or maybe the end of the ep (I do try to watch the last five minutes) show that Ale was going to be in jail years, forever, or something?

I'm still hoping for a miracle for Angie. She's the best person in this story.

Thanks Eli, great title and I thought this was terrific:
"make yourselves comfortable as I tell you a tale, a tale about a bad, bad man named Pedro Mendoza, his crimes are many, his testicles few and word on the street is that he has no heart". With a little tweaking this could make a first-rate song. Patio choir anyone?

Ugh, sounded like a dismal episode as confirmed by my fellow commenters.

ITA that there is a special place in hell for Pedro Sin Huevos.

Nanette - I think I heard something like Ale could get 20 years. If, by chance JL does snarl at Ale in his cell, maybe this is somehow part of his rogue plan to help him? We have enough bad guys right now, don't need JL joining the ranks.

I hope they are just staging a confrontation to keep up the appearance that they hate each other and that JL isn't trying to help Ale, for the benefit of Pedro and his spy minions at the prison.

Julia and Niecie: that was my other thought--that JL was up to something--but for Ale's sake. I think them pretending to hate each other could also be a plan.

Whenever I think about how this TN is going to go on for another 5 months, I get even more depressed.

Excellent, Eli!

I couldn't watch all of this last night. Between what's happening in Por Siempre right now, and what's happening in Robo, I think Uni wants US to commit suicide! Not a lot of happiness and light in either of these shows right now. I have to tune out and/or tune into something else for a while.

I did see the end with the advance for tonight. Since it's totally out of character for JL, I think it must be part of some sort of plan.

Last night I wanted Monse to just shut up, when she kept ranting on and on about JL, instead of immediately getting on the phone with Ale's lawyer, like Ref told her to do. What about him saying that time was of the essence did she not get? The man minutes she was going off on JL and getting weepy, were minutes Pedro was using to torture and blackmail false confessions out of people, that could put Ale away for decades.

Thanks for another excellent recap, Eli. Nicely done and a perfect title.

I continue to believe that Pedro's ruthlessness and complete lack of any loyalty will be his undoing and I'm depending on Maria to be the one to finally stand up to him. Or maybe he'll be rude to Carlotta and Zeke'll kill him.

Was he trying convince Zeke to shoot himself in the avances? This guy has no skill at cultivating friendships.

Carlos

Thanks, Eli, for the excellent recap.

Vivi...I agree with you that both this novela and Siempre are down in the pits with the villains torturing the good guys. They are both torture to watch right now.

Today, I caught the finale of Pasion. The loose ends were all tied up nicely , and the galan and his happy family sailed into the sunset. That is what AT&T racts me to novelas...the good guys are rewarded in the end and the bad guys are punished...unlike in real life.

5 more months for this novela ????...How are they going to manage to keep our attention ?

AT&T racts ????..thanks Ipad...that was supposed to be...attracts.

Thanks Eli! Funny as hell and BAM! to the point.

I wish Rosie would stop being such a worry wart, pissin' and moanin' all the time. How the heck did she survive 30 years in the slammer and come out such a pansy! Grow a spine Rosy and start kicking ass: Maria can be first in line!

Lila

Lila,

I agree with what you said about Rosy (I said something similar the other day)... except for the part about Maria, of course.

Carlos

Yah Carlos! :D Is there anything she can do to make you forsake her? Just curious.

Lila

Suanlynn, right now the best amusement is coming from your IPad.

Eli, thanks for the terrific recap. I will not reqrtie it, but that first introductory paragraph is a keeper. Wow!

I enjoyed the recap and I enjoyed the episode. Pedro Medina--no great physical presence: testicle less and balding in spots and probably suffering from chronic constipation as Eli mentioned-- has been allowed to muscle his way into power through intimidation and the stupidity, self-interest and cowardice of others. Who or what is going to stop him? This is going to be interesting.

For those veteran telenovela watchers, is Pedro Medina going to go down as one of the worst villains ever or have there been others worse than he?

Jarifa

Jarifa,

Perhaps we should come up with some sort of measurement for villain evilness. Like a 1-5 score (5 being most evil) in specific categories:

Murders committed by own hand:
Murders ordered or instigated:
Mistreatment of children:
Mistreatment of own/adopted children:
Treatment of animals:
Physically abusive of others:
Emotionally abusive:
Perversion level:
Level of greed/twisted ambition:

What else? We could then measure Pedro and our many villains against each other. Urban already has most of this data with her weekend villains posts.

Jarifa: Isadora in Amor Bravio was pretty awful.

Eli, you made me laugh in spite of this dark, dank debacle. Your recap was excellent and "I mean, who needs a working liver when you look like that?" and "Later, Refugio, Jose Luis's other soul mate"" provided some sweet relief.

Like you, I was bereft at the thought of Angelica's passing and also "praying to the telenovela gods for a miracle".

Talk about kicking a man when he is down. Joaquin knows his daughter is dying, his other daughter is "missing" and now Pedro delivers the death blow that he wants him to commit suicide! No spoiler but the camera shot of the pen he held lingered just a tad too long. I fear his end is here.

Vivi, totally agree that it's hard to disengage from these current storylines, I am tempted to do the same but I guess I'm a glutton for punishment? I don't want to miss any minute of the vivacious Angie's life.

Nanette and Niecie, totally agree that JL's snarling and taunting him will be the result of a nightmare in Ale's feverish thoughts.

And as for Pedro? "Or maybe he'll be rude to Carlotta and Zeke'll kill him". Perfect Carlos.

Jarifa, Pedro ranks as one of the worst - LaFont in Pasion is another.

Susanlynn, I was lucky enough to catch the finale of Pasion today too (home sick and having logged in about 4 hours sleep in the past 3 days not helping). Colunga was amazing. Those were the days.

Thank you Eli! This was great.

Diana

Dear Eli,

Thanks so much for the hysterical recap of this episode! I sing with the Caray Caray chorus in praise of your work and also of the amazing first paragraph about Pedro:

"...his crimes are many, his testicles few and word on the street is that he has no heart, personally I think he suffers from chronic constipation-this would explain the way he talks..."

I agree! The guy is often impossible for me to understand and even has a stutter sometimes, too.

And, yes, I am so with you on Fabiola's haircut! I'm not liking it on her at all, especially when I remember her amazingly coiffed AMOR BRAVIO tresses. I had a big laugh at your comments about her.

God, Pedro demanding Joaquin's suicide was terrible. I've never been a Joaquin fan, but he didn't deserve this.

AND equally disturbing to me in this episode was Basurto's beating of the narco guy Samuel Barajas. You could tell how much Basurto enjoyed it--I found it really creepy to watch. Also, I know Barajas has done awful things, but at the moment he's coming off as a hero for standing up under great duress to Basurto and Pedro and refusing to lie about Alejandro.

Thanks again, Eli! I love reading your recaps.

Lila,

"Is there anything she can do to make you forsake her?"

Well sure, but I'm convinced that she's basically good deep down and I still contend that right now she is our one best hope (perhaps with Adolfo's help) to sink Pedro.

Carlos

Vivi, I love your idea of rating the villains in terms of their evilness. I think your categories cover everything. I'll be thinking about this.

Jarifa

Diana,

"Pedro ranks as one of the worst - LaFont in Pasion is another."

LaFont was evil but he had a sense of humor (even as he was losing body parts) and he was also kind of cuddly.

Carlos

Sylvia...I love this Ipad, but I feel as if it is always trying to be the boss of me.

Vivi..that is a fine rubric you have set up for scoring villains. I have to use a rubric to grade paragraphs. They usually use a scale from 1to4. As Diana mentionned, LaFont in Pasion was a horrible , vicious villain. He would get a very high score from me. He beat his daughter, raped his blind wife, lied, cheated, robbed, and framed the galan.

Carlos...Que.? Lafont was cuddly ? No. I did , however, get kind of a giggle out of that shtick of his trying to pull his uncombed ,frizzy, gray hair over his eye patch.

Pinky Swear--I've only read the pps. on the front page and I'm ready for the rest, before it gets too late.

Eli, you got the cadence to the Beverly Hillbillies theme song down perfectly. Am totally enjoying how you've delivered this horrible episode.

I would not worry about Angelica not surviving for at least a while longer. Notice that when she woke up she was somehow breathing without the ventilator. Nurse! Nurse!

As far as Joaquin goes, he tied his own noose, now he will hang from it. Remember how was trying to assassinate JL on his daughter’s wedding day and would have succeeded if Refoolio had not forgotten the rings. Of course, Refoolio did let him walk away afterward, setting the stage for a subsequent chain reaction of really bad events to occur.

Susanlynn- A 1-4 score would work too. I also think I would add:

Attempted murders:
Plain old bitchiness/orneriness:

I like that scorecard. I will copy it and put it into a spreadsheet by which we can score villains to see who would ultimately win the cage match.

Although I don't think it would be Pedro because if any of the others pulled down the trunks to reveal the empty toolbox the anger would distract him enough for even a female opponent to bring him down.

BTW, his suicide note is also meant to incriminate Alejandro. I don't see the way out of this yet although there has to be one. I can't see him spending years behind bars.

Diana !!! it does my heart good to think of us watching the finale of Pasion "together!" That show was such a fun voyage. I am sorry that I did not start watching the reruns from the beginning. I think I will now switch to the DA reruns on Uni from 12 to 2 whenever I have the chance.

Vivi...When a teacher uses a rubric , each category receives a 1to 4 and you tally the total . if there were 10 categories,am perfect score would be 40.

Very witty recap, Eli, ITA about Fab's hair, it is just one degree north of a mullet, the most dreaded hair style ever.
I don't think this is the most depressing TN's ever. The most depressing one was Lo Que no Podia amor. But this one is a close second. And did someone say yesterday that it is going to be extended until July? Really?? Because things can't get worse without all the main characters dying.
Why is Macario suddenly the devil's advocate?

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but do you think there is an audience out there for the historicals?

Niecie, Nanette & Julia--I was surprised by the JL-Ale confrontation, too. It's fun to speculate. I only wish it were a dream sequence or a let's pretend we hate each other sequence.

If Joaquin does commit suicide (and I think I saw a pair of legs hanging and someone saying that he's dead, so it's not a spoiler), I'm afraid that JL has found the note Joaquin wrote accusing Ale and is furious with him.

I'm watching my Pasion recording from yesterday right now. Won't get to the finale until this weekend, but looking forward to it!

Nanette- There is absolutely an audience for the historical/period tn. I think it's a matter of the money to produce them. If you have MundoFox, they just started showing the historical Brazilian tn Lado a Lado this week. Here is epi 1: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1af4sm_lado-a-lado-cap-1-en-espanol_shortfilms

Historical novelas are my absolute favorites. As Vivi noted, they are expensive to produce. Carla Estrada does a remarkable job with these novelas..Alborada, Amor Real, Pasion.

Nanette--
Isadora in AB resorted to that detestable form of cruelty because she knew Leoncio couldn't read or write and this was the best way to keep him from talking, short of slitting his throat, for a permanent end to his blabbing.

I am dying for a good historical. I think Alborada was the last great one.

Hi, Eli:

Well this was a dark episode. I love your title. I was so grossed out by EZ Basurto last night I felt nauseated.

He beat Bad Guy Samuel into unconsciousness and then he wiped the the blood off his hands before he went into the next room and caressed Carlota.

The writers are giving us more the grotesque every week.

Ughh.

EJ

Vivi:

I love your criteria for the Caray Caray Measurement of Eevil Instrument!

Wonderful. He hee hee ha.

Pedro is right up there. What was the name of the hideous evil doer in Mañana Es Para Siempre? The one who controlled Barbara Greco? Now he was a right bad one, but I think Pedro has him beat.

EJ

Artemio Bravo.

Thanks Eli! Awesome recap, and funny asides.

I don't have too much time to comment because I'm in the middle of a house project (painting the bedroom), but I did have to say that I am not liking FabHat's haircut. She looked better on AB.

The avances had Ale in the pokey for 40 years! Please let that be a dream/nightmare sequence. I need some support at the Ale table.

Back to painting...hasta pronto!

Barely time to comment and thank Eli for the intriguing recap.

Feeling very conflicted with Pedro: love Sergio Sendel and hate Pedro with a deep and abiding disgust. He lacks that little glimmer of humor that other SS villains displayed. Just deep down evil, with rattlesnake venom in his veins.

I also hated EZ going to Carlota with blood on his hands. Fully expected her to be surprised at seeing some blood spatter on his shirt. Nauseated as his "comforting" her. Don't be so desperate for a man, Carlota. This guy's not the one.

Angelica's eyelashes may look lovely from a front view. When I see them from the "in bed" camera angle from her feet, I keep thinking "ewww! tarantulas on her cheeks!"

Hello everyone, long time lurker here. Really enjoy the wonderful recaps, and the high spirited comraderie that everyone seems to enjoy. Hated last night's episode, good guys can't seem to catch a break with so many twisted baddies, especially Pedro and EZ. Felt revolted when EZ caressed Carlotta, after beating that other prisoner senseless. Keep up the good work recappers! Eli you made this episode much more enjoyable than it was. Thanks!
Maricruz

Mmmmm.... Maria help sink Pedro? Now there is a thought Carlos.

I think I hear the melodic strains of You've Got a Friend wafting through the night air from the Maria table.

You know, Robo has gotten so dark, I think I'm going watch on hulu+ in the morning. I think I'll sleep better tonight. Have fun y'all!

:D Lila

Love the recap AND the comments! Personal favorite was Pedro being a man of "too many crimes and too few testicles" (hope I quoted that correctly. I thought the note Joquin gave Pedro was the suicide note. Did anyone notice that J then swiped the pen? I had to rewind to catch it. I think the message was that he was going to write another nite that would take down Pedro with him. Well, one can hope?
B

Bienvenidos Maricruz! So glad you un-lurked. (Is that a word?) Anyhoo, please comment more when you can. As you can see there is MUCH to discuss.b

Is this our Maricruz who was a recapper eons ago? So glad to see you Maricruz whichever Maricruz you are.

Lila...that is what I have to do. Watching something painful and sad right before bed is a big mistake for me. I carry it into my thoughts and dreams. Daytime viewing only!

Eli:

Thanks so much for this marvelous recap. I too loved your title.

Ay, yi, yi, can Pedro get any colder? I hope his anvil is very large and very soon. How much more evil can this guy do??????

Poor little Angie. I was hoping for a telenovela miracle too. That hospital scene was heart breaking.

So Addled is now between a rock and a hard place. I don't think he was too happy to be doing this to Ginnie.

Thanks again Eli, for this superb recap.
