Que Pobres Tan Ricos #53- 3/20/14: The AS Explanation? Porca Miseria!
Hola Amiguis! There were some home truths this evening for some of these characters. Want to know more? Please read on.
We begin with the telephone convo of Saul and MA and his meeting with Ahole. Ahole knows that AS and Leo are in Mexico, but thinks that MA is in Italia. He has no clue that MA is in Mexico. Saul tells MA how AS and Leo lived like kings while they were gone at the luxury hotel they were staying in and Saul fills him on the bill, but we don't get to hear what is said. Mati comes by while MA is hanging up and remarks on the stunned look on his face, she hopes he didn't get bad news from his lawyer. MA tells her no worries.
Tizoc and Deigo are in the Fonda talking when Frida comes and it seems she is flirting with him a bit especially about how he had no problem picking up the mattress, but Tizoc had a hard time. Deigo looks like he's into Frida, and Perla stops by and doesn't like it so much. She pushes Frida out of the way and Tizoc has a scowl on his face.
Lupe and Emi are at his school and he is worried about his Mama paying the tuition. She tells him not to worry about that, they have family and health and that's all they really need. They don't need the fripperies so to speak. Lupe tells him this is a good education and he promises to study hard and be rich one day. Ah, youth!
Perla and Tizoc have a convo in the kitchen, both think that maybe Frida and Deigo are into each other and Tizoc can't compete. Perla asks him why not? Frida goes up to see Leo and Perla leaves and Tizoc tells Deigo he must respect Frida, Deigo wants to go work with his Papa and goes.
Tizoc, MA, and Don Chuy are putting the finishing touches on the penthouse and Mati watches and Frida tries to help. The men put up the roof and electricity while Frida and Mati nap. They start work on the windows next and Frida tries to help with that too.
Carmelita is sewing and Guendy is with her. Guendy has a lot on her mind, ya know the Nepo adventure! She is afraid to tell Carmelita bout it. She tells Carmelita she is afraid she'll kill her once she tells her. We'll get back to them in a tic.
Lupe brings something to eat to the newly renovated Penthouse. There is a door on there now and the windows have been installed, no more cold nights! The RP's will officially all stay there now, except Dona Mati, she still has Don Chuy's room.
Nepo and Deigo are having dinner and Nepo is all about reconquering Lupita, Ay, Yi, Yi, he never gives up, he's obsessed. Deigo asks what if you are into someone that doesn't even know you exist? Nepo wants him to concentrate on is studies. Has he picked a career? Deigo jokes that to get his degree he has to go to school for eight years.
AS and Leo come to see the finished Penthouse and AS says that a prison cell is more comfy than the Penthouse, I say stick a sock in it AS! Leo isn't pleased either. MA tells them about the queen sized mattress and that Da Vinci will have to bunk elsewhere. AS is mad cause Dona Mati gets to sleep on her own. MA reminds AS that Mati is old and sick and needs rest.
Back to Guendy and Carmelita who tells Guendy all about Project AS Sewing. Guendy tells Carmelita to prepare herself for what she is about to tell her, and makes her swear she won't tell a soul what she is about to tell Carmelita and makes her swear before the Virgin she won't squeal. Carm of course promises. Guendy tells her it has to do with Nepo and a five letter word. Hmmmmmmm.... We'll get back to them.
MA corners AS and asks about that hotel bill, how was it paid, again? Leo and AS tell him that Maca paid the whole bill. Well, MA wants to know why some bills were sent to El Editorial and that dinner worth 30 mil pesos was paid by Ahole? AS says it's all good, until MA threatens to call the hotel to find out who paid what! AS backs off with a quickness and tells him let's forget all about that bill. MA and Frida exchange glances.
Guendy explains to Carmelita that she betrayed her BFF Lupita and if she ever found out she'd kill Guendy, but Carmelita reminds her that Lupita and Nepo broke up, was this before she asks? Guendy looks very guilty. So the Mouth opens and spills all the frijoles about the Nepo incident, ya know, the horizontal mambo with Nepo! Oh, and the five letter word? Hotel of course ; )
Leo is insisting that Maca paid for everything before she left for Spain. I think the final bill was 300,000 mil pesos the same amount that was stolen from the Menchaca and the light dawns in MA's brain that when that money disappeared so did Leo and AS. He also remembers the accusations that flew between the two families and that Lupe asked where his Mama was! He confronts his Mama alone and flat out asks her if she stole that money. She yammers about the monastery again,but then admits she took it cause she needed relief from, say it with me now, her porca miseria! She swears to pay it back with interest. She took it on an impulse she tells MA. MA can't believe she robbed the Menchacas! AS doesn't want MA to rat her out to the Menchaca. The Menchaca are having a bit of a celebration for the RPs in the Penthouse and MA makes AS participate. Don Chuy tells a story about building a home, I didn't get the details of that, and AS is looking mighty guilty. Luptia has made taquitos and MA wants her and Leo to eat some. There isn't a vegetarian thingy for Frida either. Leo and AS exit the partay and dump their food in a plant. They crow that once Leo marries Maca they will be able to rejoin civilisation.
We have a short scene with Isela and Mini and Isela talks about the seperate beds she and hubby had, may he rest in peace. Now Isela wants Mini to start wearing that fake pregnancy thingy before Ahole starts to question why she isn't showing yet. Mini refuses of course, even when Isela threatens.
Mati is talking to Lupe and MA about Don A and she lets something slip about the Menchaca house and about the RPs and a sale I think of the home. Ruh, Roh!
Tizoc and Frida have another nacocomunication and Frida walks off.
Perla asks AS about Jennifer Lopez does she know her? AS says something about St Tropez and Leo tells Perla he'll tell her all about Jennifer Lopez.
Menchacas all go off to bed and the RPs are now alone in the Penthouse. AS tells MA that Da Vinci is used to sleeping with her and that the bedding must be hypoallergenic. MA tells her it's either her or Da Vinci that sleeps on that mattress not both. I think earlier Frida explained about the mattress being ergonimic and used by those in Hollywood. MA finally tells AS and Leo they are poor, to basically get used to it!
Lupe and MA share a forbidden kiss in the kitchen while having coffee and Don Chuy comes down. He doesn't catch them. MA is doing a crazy sound to the bird cage and she shows Don Chuy the crazy circle around the ear thingy.
MA goes back to work for Nepo at the market. A lady at the chicken stand offers MA something to drink and there is a picture of Bambi on a little stand. Something about he never calls/called his aunt, I think and no one likes him? Teofilo tells him it's time to get back to work and they go.
AS is looking through her things for something to sell to pay back that money to the Menchacas. She is upset she has no money. MA asks her about those docs from the bust, but she hasn't seen them. Then she finds out that MA sold her Chincilla to do the rehab. She is highly upset. He reminds her they are no longer rich, but poor and it's not so bad. Remember he was accused of fraud by Ahole and now he is a worker at the market. Get used to it, and he's even getting paid. He goes as AS once more cries, say it with her, porca miseria!
MA and Emi are whispering away. They talk about school and polo. Emi would like to borrow MA's polo sticks, but since the rehab, MA will have to look for them, seems Emi wants to show them for show and tell. Lupe wants to know what secret are they sharing? Emi now does the crazy loopy thingy on the ear.
AS signals to Carmelita and wants to know how her clothes are coming along. Carmelita says she is working on the little details almost done. AS now says that MA will pay for the clothing and she goes. Carmelita isn't liking having MA pay for it.
At the market, it's payday and Nepo is paying his guys and MA is the last one. There isn't much in his pay envelope. He wonders why? Nepo says he isn't paying rent, or electricity is he? Well, no and MA feels like he is working for nothing. MA is about to go, when Nepo offers him an assistant's job but not at the market. He'd like MA to be his assistant in helping him get Lupe back. Cara de impactada de MA. What will MA do?

let me help you with a couple things...
when MA started questioning AS about the hotel bill, Frida asked MA about how much they could have spent. MA started mumbling that being the most expensive hotel in the city and judging from the amount of days and meals they must have consumed they must have rung a bill of about 280,000 to 300.... (he didn't even say the number when he started recalling about the money Lupe lost and he put two and two together.).. his face changes to angry and he drags his mom out to ask her about it. She at first denied it but then admitted she 'borrowed' it.
loved it when AS told MA that DaVinci was used to hypoallergenic bed with silk sheets and he flat out told her that it was either her or DaVinci on the mattress.
The talk between MA and Emi... Emi signals to MA to come down as MA is coming down the steps (funny how MA stuck his hand out every hole at the stairs to signal he was on his way...) what Emi wanted was for MA to lend him the polo sticks so he could bring them to show and tell at school. MA said with the room building he did not know where he put them but that he would find them for him. Then Lupe came out.
Isela told Mini that she and her husband slept in different rooms because he snored really loudly.
and yes, Gwendy did tell Carm flat out that she and Nepo slept together.
IMO Diego is interested in Leo for more than just art lessons, maybe he is gay and attracted to Leo. but he was really uncomfortable when Tizoc understood it wrong that he was trying for Perla or Frida and was drawing the line for Diego threatening with physical action. That is why Diego kept trying to leave ...
Lupe telling Emi about makign sure she kept him in that school because she wanted the best education he can get... that hit me very personally, my parents did not make much money, but they kept my brother and me in private school from first grade all the way through college... they didn't even take a decent vacation just the two of them until we were out of college.

When Tizoc was talking to Diego, he started by saying something like I know what you are hiding, it is very obvious who you like! which made Diego very nervous, he later relaxed when he realized that Tizoc thought he was into Frida.
I loved Isela and Minerva last night. Isela telling Mini that her late husband and her slept in separate rooms because he always made strange noises when he slept made me laugh.
I was glad to see MA finally lift a box/bag of fruit without making it seem like it weighed a ton.

Loved the housewarming party, aside from AS's and Leo's total ingratitude.
Glad AS is looking for things to sell to pay back the money, but she needs to confess to the Menchacas. Those poor people are stressed out thinking they now owe the money twice over. And MA must be struggling not to strangle his mother, since they no longer are owed that money but have nothing to show for it.
AS is a lot more frustrating as an antagonist to me that Ahole, because Ahole is cartoonish and no one feels like they have to put up with his nonsense. AS gets under my skin because she's like some people in real life...totally aggravatingly selfish, yet not someone you can simply refuse to associate with. AS is toxic. MA has been trying so hard to make things better and she makes it all infinitely more difficult. With a mother like that, who needs enemies?
I think Diego is interested in more than art with Leo. He's too cagey and sensitive and anxious about seeing Leo for it to be completely platonic.
Guendy was funny making Carmelita swear to whatever saint that was not to tell about the five-letter word. I was thinking, "Isn't that only a four-letter word?" ;). Or three, if you're less crude and in English.
How long can Carmelita keep her mouth shut. She's likely to be jumping out of her skin whenever she sees Nepo.

MA has been trying so hard to make things better and she makes it all infinitely more difficult. With a mother like that, who needs enemies?
I think Diego is interested in more than art with Leo. He's too cagey and sensitive and anxious about seeing Leo for it to be completely platonic.
Guendy was funny making Carmelita swear to whatever saint that was not to tell about the five-letter word. I was thinking, "Isn't that only a four-letter word?" ;). Or three, if you're less crude and in English.
How long can Carmelita keep her mouth shut. She's likely to be jumping out of her skin whenever she sees Nepo.

Poor Diego is between a rock and a hard place. Can you imagine Nepo's reaction if Diego told him the truth? No wonder the poor guy looks so depressed.

I too agree with you about AS. Ay, yi, yi, and her tears! Oh please she doesn't want to be caught and I really think she feels entitled to money. Leo is just as bad. I think MA should put his foot down and make Leo get a job. He isn't in school and just loafs around all day. I also think that AS should have to sell some stuff to pay the Menchacas back. It isn't fair to the Menchaca to be paying this twice you are so right! But I think their aha moment, when they finally realize that they are stuck in their porca miseria will be when and if they find out that Maca has no lana. Now that would be perfect.

I just can't feel much animosity toward AS or Leo. They are both just so cute and cuddly. I'm sure there will be some punishment for them but I'm hoping that it's not too harsh.

MA should definitely insist that Leo get a job. AS should be forced to do something useful, too, but I don't know how anyone would make her. Maybe withhold food until she does a chore? Not let her have any bed space unless she contributes something to the family? You'd like to think she'd at least be useful for keeping an eye on Mati so the others could work, but she's so self-absorbed, obviously you can't trust her to actually stay there and do the job if something else appeals to her more. Which is really pathetic, not being able to trust a middle-aged woman to do such a simple task.
AS needs to fall even further and experience some real deprivation and desperation to appreciate what she has.
Leo is a little less unreasonable when his mother isn't around, so there might be hope for him. A few weeks of hauling banana boxes would at least give him some legitimate pain and suffering. Perhaps he could use that in his "art".
I hope we see Maca again soon. I miss her.

Thanks, Madelaine. You're not kidding - the last few episodes have been chock-full of talktalktalk and it is really hard to keep up. Or even if you do keep up, it's very hard to write it all up quickly because there's so danged much of it.
Guess I was wrong about the number of mattresses. I saw the big one and the little one, but when Frida talked to MA she mentioned "the other one" which I thought was an additional big one, but apparently wasn't. So she got an even worse deal than I thought, which was already pretty bad...
And after Diego's conversation with Nepo last night, the Jury of Julie is ready with a verdict. (The obvious one, of course!) Perla and Frida have certainly been paying attention to him, so unless there's another girl we don't know about, it has to be Leo.
I wonder if AS will pawn some of MA's stuff as revenge? His polo stuff, for example? (Would Sharky even take such things? How many of his customers are shopping for polo mallets?)
I thought it was odd that the hotel bill just happened to come to 300,000 pesos, considering that they fled without paying AND AS spent some of the money on a cash deposit at the hotel, lost some at canasta, and gave some to Leo to spend on Macarena. Does this make sense? Does this mean she spent all of the money she stole AND coincidentally left behind a debt of exactly the same amount?
I am quite ready for AS to get her anvil right now. At least a warning anvilette. Her self-pity really is infuriating.

I don't understand how the debt came to the same amount she stole, either. Did Saul actually tell MA the amount, or was MA guessing based on how much AS typically spends? If he's in charge of the family finances, he was probably paying her credit card bills back when they had money, so he'd have a general idea of her level of extravagance.
