De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #35- Fri 4/25

De que le salió el tiro por la culata, salió el tiro por la culata

Natalia way too politely asks Brigitte why she bad-mouthed her to Irene.  Brigitte tries to act like Irene just misinterpreted what she said, but Natalia doesn't believe that.  She points out that the only one Brigitte's making look bad is herself.  Carmen listens in as Brigitte tells Natalia she was wrong to tell her to wait for an appointment because Irene just luuuuurved her designs.  Carmen comes out from the doorway to tell the girls that Irene is doing nothing but causing problems between them and Natalia had better be as careful about Irene as she is about Diego.  She then asks Brigitte why the heck, if she's so upset with Natalia's behavior, she would go try to get a job at the same place she works.  "Because I wanted to.  Just like you, letting Chato into our house."  Carmen looks hurt as Abdul tiredly rubs his eyes.

Rodrigo's doctor believes the longer the coma lasts, the less chance Rodrigo's going to come out of it and the greater the risk that if he does, it's going to be with some serious mental deficits.  Alonso brings up the possibility of deep brain stimulation therapy, but the doc says they tried it six months ago and it had no effect.  Diego refuses to do anything that will lead to his brother's death and Irene agrees.  Alonso says he loves Rodrigo as much as either of them, but he's more inclined to agree with the doctor.  Diego storms out of the room.

Diana meets with her lawyer, who's concerned that they don't have proof of Diego's alleged adultery.  Diana calls the PI who reports that Diego left the office without Natalia and he followed Natalia to the fonda.  Whatevs…Diana wants proof! Proof, I say!  She tells him to do whatever he has to do to get it.  The lawyer asks her if she thinks this PI is good enough to fabricate evidence.  Well, considering she just called him an imbecile….

Carmen tells Brigitte not to question her.  Abdul, who a second ago was looking like he can't believe Brigitte said that, now says Brigitte has a point…Carmen turns on him now.  Natalia tells everyone to calm down, Brigitte tells her to shut it, then tells her mom that she doesn't want Chato in the house.  Abdul agrees and threatens to move out if she won't get rid of Chato.  Carmen says if that's the way it's gotta be, that's the way it's gotta be.   She's only helping Chato temporarily because he's sick.  She and Natalia head into the kitchen.  Brigitte complains to Abdul that Natalia's just agreeing with "MY" mother to get on her good side again.

Diego talks to Rodrigo again, asking him to come back--don't listen to him, Rodrigo!  He asks him for a sign.

Irene tells Alonso she couldn't be at peace thinking she might have robbed Rodrigo of the chance to live.  And Diego's less ready than her to accept that possibility.  Rodrigo's like a part of him.

Diego's still waiting for a sign and swears he won't let them "take" his life.  After he leaves, Rodrigo's eyes open.

Irene agrees she doesn't want to "disconnect" him, but she thinks Vicente needs to be updated.  Alonso has an appointment with a patient, so he cancels their lunch.

Natalia tells Carmen she'll support her if she wants Chato to stay with them while he recovers.  "I'm no one to question your decisions, and it is your house."  She offers to talk to Abdul, since she's sure he was just speaking in anger and doesn't really want to leave.  Carmen says she does have her reasons and she and Natalia share a weepy hug.

Diana and her lawyer meet with the PI and the lawyer asks him if he'd be willing to fabricate evidence.  Of course he would, for a price.  The lawyer advises Diana to accept.  The PI isn't willing to take his fee out of what she gets in the divorce…he wants money up front.  Diana admits to the lawyer that she doesn't have the money.

Natalia goes looking for Abdul, but Brigitte doesn't know where he is.  She tries sweet-talking Natalia into agreeing with them that Chato shouldn't be staying with them.  When Natalia won't agree, she gets angry.  "Don't you care that he made a fool of our mother?"  Brigitte accuses her of sucking up to Carmen.  Natalia says Brigitte needs to quit causing trouble and respect Carmen's decision, and so should Abdul.

Abdul calls Andres to ask if he can stay at his place and tells him about Chato staying with them after his fall down the stairs.  Andres, that disloyal jerk, realizes Chato is faking his injury, using the medical supplies Andres brought him. Of course he doesn't tell Abdul that.

Diana asks the lawyer if she can borrow the money from him, but he's not willing to risk another 20M pesos…unless she's willing to part with 40% of her settlement…?  Diana thinks that's too much, but what else can she do?  She tells the PI she'll make a deposit and he asks her for a picture of Diego leaving a building, preferably a hotel.

Abdul comes back to the fonda and Natalia pleads with him  to stay.  She says Chato being there is only temporary and if he leaves, it will hurt their mom.  She reminds him that he's the man of the house and no one can take that away from him.

Chato tries to help Lupita with Mexican geography.  He's having trouble naming the states.  Lupita explains it to him and Chato tries to claim it was different when he was a kid.  Andres comes over and asks Lupita to leave them alone to talk.  "So.  A 'friend' fell off his bike, huh?"

Diego and Irene go to Vicente to tell him about Rodrigo.  He explains about Rodrigo opening his eyes, but that turning out to be a reflex action.  Irene says it's looking like there's no possibility for him to recover.  Vicente had been thinking that recently as well.  Diego gets upset, saying it would be like killing his brother.

Andres ignores Chato's excuses, as do I.  He lays down the law, saying Chato has to come clean or Andres will rat him out.  Chato has until 8pm to do it, when Andres is coming back for him.  About damn time your loyalty to the Garcias kicked in, Andres!

Vicente says he's had hope for Rodrigo's recovery, but his situation hasn't changed.  Neither Diego nor Irene wants to pull the plug, saying it's up to God to decide when Rodrigo's life should end.  Vicente says what Rodrigo has is no longer a life. He's concerned that even if Rodrigo does come out of the coma, he'll be in a vegetative state.  Vicente asks them to imagine keeping him alive without being able to think or feel or move…"just waiting for his organs to deteriorate."  Vicente breaks down and says he doesn't want to watch him suffer.  Diego begs him to wait for a miracle and Irene says at least they know he's not feeling anything.  Vicente says that's the problem…he doesn't feel or think.  It's as if he doesn't exist.  Diego just can't do it.  Vicente tells them both to be calm and they'll just wait and see how things go.  Wow.  That's more sensitivity than I would have thought Vicente was capable of.

Abdul asks Carmen to swear she won't do anything stupid where Chato is concerned.  Carmen tells him to chill…she's not about to move Chato or any other man into their house.  She's just helping him out while he's recuperating.  Abdul jokes that it's going to take forever, as messed up as he is, but Carmen says that with her "remedios" (remedies, nostrums, herbs, magical chicken soup) he'll be good as new in no time.

Diana searches the photo albums and finds a picture of Diego, probably from outside Caprico.  She puts the picture in the scanner as Diego walks in.  She tries to act like she was just sentimentally looking at pictures and remembering the good times, but Diego says he no longer has any good times with her.  He checks something on the laptop, then leaves.  Diana takes a copy of the picture out of the scanner.

Irene tells Lala about Rodrigo.  She's feeling sad and tells Lala that neither she nor Diego want to disconnect him.  Tad calls and Irene agrees to talk to him.  He invites her to coffee and she agrees, wanting someone to talk to.

The PI gets some pictures of Natalia walking into Caprico.

Irene talks to Tad about Rodrigo and has to explain what happened to him.  The sound is terrible!  Tons of background noise!  And I don't know where they are, but it doesn't look like a coffee place.  Tad leads her into a philosophical discussion about the will to live.  She thinks it's human not to lose hope, but Tad seems to be doubting that.  Irene wonders what Tad wanted to talk about.  Tad wanted to get her involved in a foundation he's starting to help low-income kids who are interested in art.  He talks about this as a legacy he wants to leave, but evades Irene's question about why he's putting it that way.  He says he's just been thinking about it for a long time and he thinks after he's gone, he'd like to think he left something behind.

Alonso calls the house for Irene, but Lala tells him she went out and left her cell phone at home.  He's sitting at his kitchen table with some books and the one he opens has "Life" and "Death" in the title.  Awwwwwww!  He knows they count on his professional opinion, so he's doing research.

Carmen, Abdul, and Brigitte get home and Chato announces that it's nice that Carmen's letting him stay, but he doesn't want to cause any trouble, so he's going back to his house.  Abdul disgusts Brigitte by saying he can stay and Abdul will sleep on the couch.  "Um…but I've got someone to take care of me at my house."  "Then call and cancel.  You're staying here."  Andres shows up just then and Abdul tells him that Chato isn't going back to his house and Abdul won't be staying with him (Andres) after all.  Andres and Chato keep making faces at each other.  That little game lasts until Carmen invites Andres to stay for dinner and Brigitte says she's lost her appetite.

The PI managed to alter the picture of Diego and one of the pictures of Natalia to make it look like they're walking out of a building holding hands.  Seriously?  That's supposed to be "proof."  Diana seems happy enough with it.

Chato tells Andres the Garcias aren't letting him leave.  Carmen goes to help Chato to the table and Andres trips him.

Eleazar goes to Luz's to apologize for canceling their dinner on Saturday.  He wants to take her out, but she says there's food in the house…and besides, she's watching Amorcito Corazon and she wants to see what happened since Willy showed up at the convent to see Lucia.  Oh, and by the way, in the realm of real life drama…Chato Reynoso is back!  Yeah, yeah, El knows.  She's a little upset that Eleazar didn't tell her if he knew.  Luz tells him that Chato is staying at Carmen's while he recovers from a bad accident.

During the meal, Andres takes the opportunity to bump Chato's supposedly bad elbow and make him spill coffee on himself.  Chato jumps up screaming and Carmen throws a pitcher of juice on him to stop the burning, then starts to dry him off.  Natalia comes in to see Chato grabbing the back of Carmen's head with his "good" hand and kissing her while Carmen tries to shove him away.  Eleazar sees this as well.  Is this Chato's attempt to get Carmen to throw him out instead of admitting he's not hurt?

Tad drops Irene off at home and they agree to meet tomorrow at Tad's.  As Irene bids him a good night, Alonso approaches.

Carmen scolds Chato, saying she likes kisses that are given, not stolen.  Chato says he just couldn't help himself.  They notice Eleazar at the door and he says he was just coming over to borrow a tool from Abdul to fix something at his mom's place.  Chato invites his "cuñado" (brother-in-law) to stay and have some dinner.  "Sure, why not.  The repair can wait."  Eleazar sits down next to Lupita, winking at her.  Carmen asks Paolo to clean up the spilled juice while Natalia serves Eleazar some dinner and she gets Chato in to some less-soaked clothing.  As they head into the hallway, Carmen grabs Chato by the front of his jacket and hisses that if he dares steal another kiss in front of her kids, he won't need a pair of crutches--he'll need a wheelchair!

Alonso brought Irene the books.  He says they're about comas, they're very readable, and he's spent the afternoon highlighting passages for her.  *Gulp*  He did research, he picked out books, he highlighted passages…. I think I just swooned.  How is he not the galan in this story? Anygüey….Tad picks up the top book in the stack, titled "Life After Death" and asks if it would be ok if he borrowed it when Irene's through with it.  "You're interested in life after death?" Irene asks.  Tad says, sure, why wouldn't he be.  He gives the book back and kisses Irene on the cheek, bidding her a good night, then drives away.  Alonso declines Irene's offer to come in, but suggests that they get together tomorrow, have some coffee, talk about the book.  Unfortunately, Irene's already made plans with Tad.  "Ohhhhh, Tad," he teases, "Well, ok then, you just call me when you have time."  Irene says she always has time for him, this was just a fluke.  "Ummmmm…well…ok then.  Uh…good night."  He kisses her just a little too much on the cheek to be romantic and a little too much on the mouth to be friendly.  Irene looks shocked…but kind of pleased…but confused…but kind of like her mouth's still tingling a little….  Hot damn!  The books, the highlighting, the making fun of his own jealous insecurity, the almost-kiss.  Well played, Alonso.  Well played.

Carmen brings up Eleazar's "girlfriend" Kimberly *barf* and suggests she and Chato go on a double date with El and Kimberly.  Eleazar talks Kimberly up and when he gets to "she's a great cook" I wonder how much of the rest of what he said was a lie.  Actually I didn't listen to most of it, but I'm sure it was all lies to make Carmen jealous.  He's going to have to explain this to Lupita.

Tad goes home to his painting of Irene and asks his housekeeper to get flowers and have the house all prettied up for a VERY special guest tomorrow.  He asks her to just fix some appetizers and coffee…definitely coffee!

Irene can't focus on reading because she can't stop wondering if Alonso wanted to kiss her.  I don't blame you, girlfriend.  Pondering the possibility of kisses is way more satisfying than reading about comas.  She thinks it just can't be…but then again, he did seem jealous of Tad…but no, he can't be interested In her.  She tells herself to quit fantasizing…then smiles.

It's down to Carmen, El, Chato, and Andres at the dinner table.  When Abdul comes in with his pillow and blanket to sleep on the couch, Eleazar has the bright idea that instead of Abdul getting kicked out of his room, Chato should go stay with Luz, who has an empty guest room available.  Andres thinks that's a great idea, but he makes an analogy about chicken coops and corrals, offending Carmen.  Carmen asks if it's fair to saddle her godmother with Chato, and makes an analogy about martyrs, offending Chato.  The response to both offenses is "What?  That's how you say it."  Eleazar goes to talk to Luz and tells Abdul to get Chato's bags packed.  Andres grins and Carmen tells Chato this will be good, that way he won't be alone when she goes to the fonda.

Natalia makes out with the conch shell Diego gave her.  She texts him.  Diego gets her text that she can't stop thinking about him and can't get him out of her head…or her heart.  Dudes.  If the PI gets hold of that, it's not going to look good.  I'm so busy thinking this text is going to come back to bite them that I tune Diego's smushy text reply out.  Geez, Natalia!  At least turn the sound off so you don't wake up Lupita!  Diego's sappiness earns him an "I love you" text.

Monday: more divorce drama and Diego has to break the news to Natalia and show her the faked photo.

Irene is now 13 episodes sober. Yay! And has 2 dudes panting after her who are both keeping things civil so far. Yay for that too!

Great recap and commentary!

Vicente sort of did it, but I wish more novelas had characters accepting that pulling the plug is an act of mercy, not "killing". And I'd really like if it were brought up that a coma patient's organs can save the lives of other people.

Still I appreciate so many things about this novela, including that technology actually exists!

I love all three couples in this, but I think Alonso and Irene are my favorite one. Their chemistry is red hot. It's no wonder they ended up dating in real life while working on this novela! I just wish the show would move it along so I can see them making out already, heh!

Glad El at least heard Carmen tell Chato that kiss wasn't okay.

I can't even get past the first line and I have to comment! Natalia was too polite! I'm glad she's a nice person but she has to get over that. Bratgitte is getting more and more bitter.

Gracias 5ft

What is it with Uni TN's & background noise? They must have been in the median strip of a main st. in DF.
In other TN's, you hear water running.

Thanks for the recap Kat. I loved your comment about Alonso: "He did research, he picked out books, he highlighted passages…. I think I just swooned. How is he not the galan in this story?" Yes!!

I so enjoyed the shout out to Amorcito Corazon, which is currently playing at 2 am. And the producer of this tn produced AC.

Anon @ 8:11 am, I am surprised the tn is grappling w/this issue. Yet another reason to like this tn.

Sara, Nat is too nice and unfortunately most nice characters are not wise about evil. I think poor Nat may be blind-sided by how horrible the Brat may act.

Variopinta, the coffee scene's sound was horrible. I don't know what happened there but thankfully it has been the exception.

Sorry for deleting the last one. There was an embarrassing grammar mistake.

Kat--This was, as usual, brilliant. Your "Hot damn! The books, the highlighting, the making fun of his own jealous insecurity, the almost-kiss. Well played, Alonso. Well played." line really made me grin.

I'm swooning and fanning myself over Alonso as well. He and Irene are really fun to watch. Dare I say Irene is my favorite character? (Oh, but Carmen is awesome too...and while too sweet, Nat is fun to watch too....)

Vario- Running water is THE WORST. It drowns out everything!!

Anon8:11- I ditto your sentiments IRT pulling the plug.

It's funny how we often comment that we wish this novela would "move along", but I feel like it really is. EVERY episode seems to have some plot-fowarding action. I admit it's still not going fast enough, though. LOL

omigosh Karen I literally squeed aloud when Luz made the comment about Amorcito Corazon. It is on of my all time favorites. I think what I enjoy so much about Ms. Suarez's productions is that she gives younger talent a chance and gives them good story lines. I love my veterans, but it's nice to see who is up and coming (Albogado, and all of Carmen's kids.)

PS: I still think Daniel Arenas' best work was on Amorcito Corazon.

And poor Nat is going to be blind-sided and it's not going to be cool. I suspect Bratgitte will be wanting to make nice once she finds out who Nat's biological parents are!

Funny, I was thinking of how this novela reminds me of Querida Enemiga (which I love), and now seeing Sara's comment about Lucero Suarez I see that they're both her work. She really does some great character work and true-to-life interactions. And she usually acknowledges cell phones!

Awesome Kat. Loved your detail, humor and snide snark. Your recaps are always pure pleasure.

"Diego talks to Rodrigo again, asking him to come back--don't listen to him, Rodrigo!, "Vicente tells them both to be calm and they'll just wait and see how things go. Wow. That's more sensitivity than I would have thought Vicente was capable of" (yes Kat, me too) and "Pondering the possibility of kisses is way more satisfying than reading about comas" were among my many favorites.

There is little not to love about this TN. The actors, acting, storyline - all have sparkled.

I thought Rodrigo's situation was handled sensitively and realistically. Vincente did provide reason wrapped with (shocking) compassion. At the other end of the spectrum,Diego not wanting to let go was touching and heartfelt. All very life like (from personal experience). A well written scene.

Carmen and El are still my favorites although I love Irene. The thing is there are no bad choices here (except possibly any couple of which Brigitte is involved). ;)

Sara, great comment about this being a showcase for up and coming actors. I like the vets too but am very impressed with this bunch. I think (and hope) bright futures are on the horizon for them.

Kat, thank you!!

Diana

Sara and anon: Querida Enemiga was one of my favorites too. We had such fun and spirited debates!

Diana

I'm going to have to check out Querida Enemiga...even if only on one of those butchered DVDs.

Aonon12:12- " And she usually acknowledges cell phones!" Always a refreshing twist! ;-)

What I love about El are the little things Marcelo brings to the role. The little wink at Lupita last night was just darling (and kinda hot.)

Yes, Querida Enemiga is so good! The chef plot is super unrealistic in terms of how it really is, but the novela is so charming, and I like that it's about falling in love again, whereas most novelas insist on first love forever. And there is much chemistry between our heroine and galan.

I just realized Lucero Suarez was behind Las Dos Caras de Ana, which is also great, if a bit less light-hearted than some of her other work. Ana Layevska and Jorge Aravena were in this one, just like in Querida Enemiga. Rafael Amaya also. Again the matter of falling in love again was addressed. I really appreciate that Lucero Suarez novelas have heroines genuinely attracted and not afraid to kiss (and have sex with) someone other than the destined galan. Most telenovelas have heroines who can't even bring themselves to kiss other men because "no te amo", even when they're ridiculously attractive and good guys and the galan is often a cad. But that's just not true to life, where people date, and genuinely like more than one person, even if they don't fall in love. Not to mention that a lot of times the galan has no problem seeking consolation with other women!
Anyway, it turns out I've liked a lot of LS' work and I didn't even stop to notice!

"Anyway, it turns out I've liked a lot of LS' work and I didn't even stop to notice!"

I like that her work speaks for itself.

Salvador Mejia and Nathalie Lartilleux are household names (Well, maybe just at Caray), but how good is there stuff really?

Salvador Mejia, Emilio Larrosa, and Juan Osorio are the unholy trinity, as far as I'm concerned!

Even though Chato really annoys me, I really enjoyed the episode. The recap was even better, thanks Kat.

My favorite couple is Nat and Diego. I like the other 2 main couples but not as much because they haven't really "coupled up" yet.

I'm going to play devils advocate here for a moment and say that I totally understand Diego's feelings about not pulling the plug. I have an identical twin sister and we were raised almost as if we were two persons in one body. My other sisters and brothers were addressed by their names but we were called "the twins". Even to this day when I visit my hometown people will ask "now which twin are you"? If someone asks me to tell them about my childhood it's always what "we" did. I could pull the plug on any of my other sisters or brothers than I could on my twin. I'm getting teary eyed even at the thought.

Sara, the running water makes me want to go al baño.

Daniel Arenas was (GOOD?) in Amorcito Corazon, ?? hard to believe, but anything must be better than CI.

Salvador Mejia and Nathalie Lartilleux are two peas in a pod, each learning from the other. Sad to say they have NO talent. You would think one of them would come up with something other than the usual cliche. Only thing different is location & the actors. How do they get any decent actor for their crap?, ok, dinero! They belong to each other & in case you didn't know, they are married to each other.
I guess their marriage is pretty cliche.

Foxy, it's funny that in movies & TN's there is always an evil & a good twin. I have never heard of such a thing in real life, they are either both good or both bad.

Anon
I had to look up Emilio Larrosa & Juan Osorio to see what they produced.
I only caught a little of Hasta que el dinero nos separe, but what I saw was entertaining, (Emilio)

As to Juan, I really liked Una Familia con suerte but Porque el amor manda was just so, so, but it had my telenovio FC, so I stuck with it, yawn.

Emilio Larrosa did the amazing La Verdad Occulta (recapped by the amazing (and much missed) Jeri, Elvira and Vivi.

It followed CS 09 which was banished to midnight. Most of us who followed CS stayed for LVO. It had Yanez and Soto. One of the best I've seen - in the top 5 for me.

Diana

I've been meaning to thank you for weeks, 5Ft, for recapping this every day. You are always so amusing! I just love Alonso and I've never seen him before. But my favorite is El. He is so hot! I've been in love with him since Sortilegio.

I do not watch this every day for various reasons but I like it very much. I missed the first episodes so could someone tell me the following: Does Nat know yet about Rod and that it was Rod that attacked her? Do the Garcia kids know that Nat is adopted, and does Nat know she is adopted? Is the actor playing Chato one of those silly guys from PEAM - the one that won the lottery?

Also, I've not seen any previews as to what will follow PSMA. Does anyone know?

Lori Loo-Yes, Rodrigo attacked Nat (she thought it was Diego) and no, she has NO CLUE about Rodrigo. In fact, when she ran into Diego again she was quite scared.

Foxy, thank you for that story. The thought crossed my mind last night that the decision to pull the plug must be especially difficult for Diego since Rodrigo is not just a sibling, but his twin.

Vario-I caught the the last half of UFCS and enjoyed it. It's why I started watching PEAM, but PEAM just didn't seem to have the same appeal for me. And yes, Daniel was really good in Amorcito Corazon. IMO, he should not do overly serious roles. He's just too wooden.

On a whim I recorded Amorcito Corazon on Friday and watched the episode this afternoon. I'm going to have to start recording and enjoying it again. I forgot how cute it was. Just like here, the "other couples" are just as interesting. I had forgotten how cute Doris and Poncho ended up being.

PS Lori Loo-Squee! Cute kitteh!

Thanks Sara. The cute kitty is Mr. Spock but unfortunately, he returned to Vulcan a few years ago.:(

I was surprised to see the Diego actor as a main protagonist as I'd only seen him as Yago in AB. I've become quite a fan but he is not as hot as El. If I was Carmen, I'd be all over him like white on rice.

Yeah, Juan Diego Covarrubias (Diego/Rodrigo) is not the smokin' hot kind of good looking, but he's cute.

La Verdad Oculta is good, but it's a glaring exception in a career that had works such as Dos Mujeres Un Camino, Las Vias del Amor, Muchachitas (and the ever more terrible Muchachitas Como Tu, which had Ariadne Diaz and Angelique Boyer btw), El Premio Mayor, Amigas Y Rivales, and so many more train wrecks.
Though I suppose Nathalie could take his spot at this point since I don't think she has anything redeeming.

It's my b-day weekend, so I have not had mcuh chance to watch the shows, so a BIG thank you for the wonderfully detailed recap!

Querida Enemiga was my first Caray Caray tn. I can't tell if it was that tn or this site that started my tn addiction, but I quickly came to enjoy both. From the three Lucero S. tns I have now seen (QE, Amorcito, and this one), I think she doesn't do big and splashy, but she's reliable-- meaning you know you'll get a quality tn.

I loved La Verdad Oculta. Best mystery tn I've seen. Really, the only one I've seen! And I enjoyed Dinero, another Larrosa tn-- my favorite final tn scene.

That's a perfect assessment of Lucero Suarez productions not "big and splashy, but reliable."

I caught bits and pieces of Dinero (I guess when STuD was airing) and thought it looked cute. Maybe that's where my crush on Pedro Fernandez started...I'm a sucker for a man in a charro suit.

Happy Birthday, Vivi!

Lucero Suarez basically does more slice of life novelas, which I think are honestly needed in a medium ruled by overly dramatic fairytales that don't seem to exist in the current world. Las Dos Caras de Ana is probably the most dramatic one from her, and even it had its fair share of sillier characters.

In terms of mystery, La Jaula de Oro is one I can think of, though it's more of a psychological suspense/thriller thing. It starred Edith Gonzalez, Saul Lisazo, and Rene Casados.
The other is La Madrastra. But that one was a terrible joke.

Anon 8:26- I see that tn was done in 1997-- way before my tn addiction began. If they ever show it during the day when they rerun old tns, I will be sure to set my dvr.

Sara- Now that I think about it, I also loved the final scene in Amorcito! The thing it and the final scene of Dinero have in common is music-- Pedro and Itati singing in Dinero, and the whole cast dancing in Amorcito.

Okay, I didn't watch Amor Bravio, but I just saw that it's a remake of La Jaula de Oro (which was also a remake).

Ah, yes. Loved Amor Bravio. Not really a mystery, but the good guys were very smart and worked together to take down the bad guys. We called them the Scooby Doo Gang (Scoobies for short) because they were so impressive working as a team and outmaneuvering the bad guys on so many occasions-- so unlike typical tn good guys.

Sara- Thanks for the birthday wishes. I took the whole week off to celebrate, but today is the actual day, and the most mellow day I've had this past week. :)

Happy birthday Vivi! Wishing you a wonderful day and happiness in the coming year.

Diana

Diana- Thanks, Amiga!

LoriLoo- Yes. All the Garcias, their family friends, and all of Tuxpan, know that Nat was adopted. And yes, Chato is being played by one of the sillies from PEAM, who was also in Amorcito playing the lawyer and one of the two BFFs of the gala-- basically, the Alberto role here.

The galan, not gala. :)

Thanks Vivi and Happy Birthday!!

I loved Hasta que el dinero and named one of my kitties Rafael Medina Nunez! Raffa for short so even my vet gets mixed up and calls him a she.

I became addicted to TNs because of a Spanish class assignment 11 years ago! And now I'm addicted to Caray. Dios mio, caigamos en oracion!

LoriLoo- I love that! What a great name for a cat. Does he like to meow/sing a lot? :)

The final scene of Dinero: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyi-Ii6iBLM

Just went back and double checked this-- Doris from AC was from Tuxpan! Lol

And Ricardo Fastlicht's character in AC was so much cuter, but I am impressed (and dismayed) by how well he's pulling off the slime ball character here.

And I keep forgetting to say how much I am enjoying Livia in this. I could not stand her Paloma character in Abismo.

La madrastra, ay caramba, yet another opportunity to post this, not to be missed

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DqnRjoI818

I thought Pedro Fernandez, although not handsome, was adorable in Dinero, I am a fan & he can sing too.

Fernanda Castillo comes back to life in the El señor de los cielos sequel. Looking forward to that one.

LoriLoo, roll up your pants, la llorana Victoria Ruffo will be on after Por Siempre in La Malquerida, supposedly starts May 5. Count me out.

After DQTQTQ is El color de la pasión, with our Diana (Esmeralda Pimentel) as the protagnista & Erik Elias, looking forward to that one.

Thanks Vario - also not a fan of Ruffo. I'll stick with this one.

Vivi, Happy Birthday!! Glad you were able to enjoy the day and the week.

Variopinta, I know based on CI its hard to believe DA is good but if you see AC you'll see.

I think I missed the ending of Dinero but AC w/its Bollywood type finale was truly one of the best endings I have ever seen. You know the cast was having a blast and we as the audience did too.

Happy Birthday, Vivi!

Thank you everyone for the feedback :D I'm happy to see more people commenting and enjoying the show.

Big thanks to Sara and Karen for handling most of this week for me. I just sang my last concert this run and the last concert of the season, so I'm kicking back with a glass of wine at long last :D

Add me to the list of people who likes Lucero Suarez TNs without realizing it!

What do you guys think of Ma Pat (Juan Querendon) and Roberto Gomez Fernandez (Locura de Amor) novelas?

and Pedro Damian ones (Pequena Traviesa which I'm dying to see but have sufficed myself with the very theme song.)

Corazon- I never saw either of those, but I know Juan Q was recapped on Caray and folks still mention it with affection.

Ok, one thing is bugging me. All this time Diego has NOT told Nat about Rodrigo? It hasn't come up that his twin...who means so much to him...is a coma due to an accident he suffered in Tuxpan? I'll just have to adjust my beanie and go with it, but it does seem odd that after 35 episodes, the Great Misunderstanding has not been cleared up. It especially seems odd now that Diego has to make the decision to pull the plug. I can't believe he hasn't talked to Nat...for a shoulder to cry on at least.

And I don't know how it will go down, but I'm not gonna be happy if that photoshopped image is taken as irrefutable proof. Video footage of Diana sticking her tongue down a man's throat and saying "I love the way you make me feel in bed" vs a picture of two people holding hands in front of a hotel. Hell, they didn't even look like they were canoodling.

I'm with you, Kat "Seriously? That's supposed to be 'proof.'"

I checked the plot synopsis for Amor Bravio and though they're both remakes, it's very different from La Jaula de Oro. But it sounds like it's similar in terms of the characters, as La Jaula de Oro was good because people were SMART in it. Saul Lisazo was super hot in it and so different from the typical idiot galan. I just saw it's on YouTube and I'm watching it again.

anon
Watch Amor Bravio, it is close to the top of good novelas. Silvia Navarro & Cristian de la Fuentes are smoking. It doesn't have the usual TN estupidez.

Oh I probably will at some point since as I said, it's based on a novela that I know isn't the typical fare in terms of the characters and story. Also I like Cristian from a terrible novela he did with Karyme Lozano (Soñar No Cuesta Nada). They became close friends and had great chemistry, so I'm looking forward to their latest work as well.

Anon- As a fun exercise, I looked up scenes from De Pura Sangre (1980s), La Juala de Oro (1990s), and Amor Bravio (2010s). Specifically, I looked up the first time the main couple made love. In each iteration of the tale, the main couple makes love secretly in a small house/cabin apart from the main house.

Post lovemaking conversation: In the 80s, the galan (still hiding his real identity and not having a problem with it), is very concerned about the heroine making love to her husband now that she is his (the galan's) mujer. The heroine is having some major misgivings/guilt about making love to the galan without first being divorced. In the 90s, the heroine is very worried about whether the galan really loves her, and if he is still hung up on her twin sister. But she initiates the lovemaking. In the 2010s, the heroine initiates the lovemaking-- realizing life is too short to worry about the fact that she's still in the middle of her divorce process. The galan feels guilty about not revealing his real identity, before taking such a major step with the heroine.

De Pura Sangre: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wNAsBQ3c88

La Juala de Oro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3HZENLYN2Q

Amor Bravio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9z904BJ59s

I find it interesting that in the 80s all of the lovemaking anxiety was on the part of the woman (except for the jealousy of the man), in the 90s it was mixed, but still mainly on the woman's part, but in the 2010s, the anxiety shifted exclusively to the man. Maybe someone could do a study/paper on how even when a tn is remade multiple times, they still can reflect some major shifts in society and thinking.

I just watched that last night again. I love how Oriana is like "he gets upset seeing us kiss in the house, but this isn't the house, so let's do it", then when the aunt walks in she points out how upset she is, but she is too high to really care and just wants to make out some more.
There's a scene before this where they make out, get naked, and take a dip in the river, but don't have intercourse, that I find quite steamy. She proposes then that they make love and says it doesn't really matter if he's in love with her sister. She doesn't have anxiety about the love-making because of that, more their relationship in general. And with good reason, as the galan tries to caution her that he isn't sure he loves her and it's maybe not wise to get involved.

What's really obvious is the personality change from Jaula to Amor Bravio. They have a far more playful relationship whereas Alex is far more reluctant to get involved with Oriana and is very careful in how he treats her due to how sheltered she has been her whole life.

Siiiigh Humberto Zurita. I've been in love with him and those eyes and voice since Alguna Vez Tendremos Alas!

Anon- I agree the anxiety on the part of the heroine in the 90s is not about the lovemaking itself (like in the 80s)-- she did initiate it, after all, but about how the galan feels about her. In the 2010s version the relationship is VERY playful between the main couple, she's certain about how he feels for her and she feels for him, and she's all in- no regrets, not hesitation, no need for explanations and conversation.

MEJOR TELENOVELA
Amores Verdaderos

Vivi, I watched a bit last night and was delighted Susana, Erika and Cynthia won in their respective categories and was also pleased so many AV actors were rewarded.

I did scratch my head a bit at Juan Diego Covarrubias' win though. I think the actor's performance has been good here but not stellar. Was he up against Rulli (or am I mixing up the categories?) I hope not as Rulli was robbed for not winning for Teresa. I know Sebastian lost again but can't recall who he was up against.

Diana

Diana- This was the competition for best male protagonist. Since DQTQTQ has just started, I'm going to give Juan Diego a chance to prove himself. Frankly, Rulli's galan in AV was pretty weak, and was shared galan with Ed Yanez, so I'm not that upset about it. Rulli will have an excellent chance next year for Robo.

ACTOR PROTAGÓNICO
Sebastián Rulli (Amores Verdaderos)
Juan Diego Covarrubias (De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero)
David Zepeda (Mentir Para Vivir)
Daniel Arenas (Corazón Indomable)

Just looking at that list I can see why Juan Diego won. None of the others were galán like. Or at least the roles didn't seem galán like.

ja, ja, ja, ja, Daniel Arenas for CI, ja, ja, ja,ja????/!!!!!!!

After Silvia Navarro didn't even get nominated for Amor Bravio & Victoria Ruffo won, I don't have much use for these awards. Really??? la llorana??!!
Also Lucero & Joan Sebastian's song La golondrina in STUD was even nominated, booooo

Are these viewer nominated? I think the viewers vote on the finals.

I'm happy with Juan Diego winning, I really don't care for Rulli or Yáñez.
Zepeda is a much better villain, I do like him though.

wasn't even nominated

Variopinta- I think this year's wins are the most fair I have seen them be, with the awards spread around, and NONE of them to Corazon Indomable! Ha!

I think CI is the worse novela, overtaking FELS, that said, Ana Brenda did a good job with zero. Was she nominated?
FELS as awful as it was had wonderful portrayals by Diana Bracho & Guillermo García Cantú (still my favorite villain)

Ana Brenda Contreras
Blanca Soto (who was absent)
Erika Buenfil
Mayrin Villanueva

I'm glad Erika took it home. Ana Brenda is a good actress and was the diamond in the doody in CI. Blanca Soto as Alma was my nephew's favorite and I wouldn'tve minded her winning. Mayrin as Oriana/Ines was crucified on MPV recaps so she didn't win and I liked her more in UFCS and JQ.

I would have given it to David Zepeda. He has tons of presence and I know MPV is not liked here, but for the most part Ricardo is exactly what I like in a galan — smart, a man of action, completely in love with the female lead and willing to do whatever it takes to be with her, passionate. I'm not physically attracted to him, but he's a very good actor.
I'm loving DQTQTQ, and there's a long way to go, but right now JDC hasn't had that much presence.

As for the awards, they are indeed a popularity contest. I mean Sergio Sendel won for his role in Destilando and he had far more villainous competition. Not to mention Destilando winning so much when it was a fairly ridiculous novela that eventually ruined the relationship between the main couple.
Or Susana Gonzalez having to work past being a "home wrecker" in people's eyes to get any love in terms of nominations.

"...diamond in the doody..."

Ha ha!! Thanks for the laugh!

Anon5:36-I'm not sure MPV was disliked, but it was frustrating at the very end. I really, really enjoyed it until the last 15 episodes.

Anon- Based on what we have seen so far, I would also choose David in Mentir, for all the reasons you mention. But I'm guessing this tn was popular for a reason and that Juan Diego was chosen for a reason, so I'm holding my decision on that until we get further into this tn.

Juan Diego has been very galan-esque here (IMO.)

He is doing everything in his power to do right by Natalia AND has been very supportive with Irene (this earns him LOTS of points in my book.) He continues to be kind to his grandfather despite knowing that Rodrigo is and always will be Grumps' favorite.

BUT Juan Diego hasn't shown the same kind of "presence" here that DZ and other actors have shown. Juan Diego did have that presence in UFCS (IMO.) I can't speak for Amor Bravio as I didn't see it.

I agree about Sergio robbing that award. Bouffy was a hoot as a villain and with that decapitation seen had his name written all over it but it didn't occur. Alexis Ayala who was in JQ must've been a grade-A bastard to have been given the fate of fireballing off a cliff (I've seen and read about it here.) and he wasn't even nominated!

It's as if all the characters they know will win are omitted and substituted with less likely competition.

Sara- That's what Juan Diego lacks-- presence. But I chalk that up to both his youth, and the way that the character of Diego has been written, so far. Diego is a nice, standup guy. Very straight forward about his feelings for his family, friends, and Natalia. That's refreshing, but doesn't necessarily make for a compelling galan.

I think Zepeda won last year, so maybe they want to spread it around

I do have to say that Natalia fell for Diego precisely because he's a sweet goofball, not because he's some sexy alpha male, as we usually get in most tns. Their meet-cute was him being ditched, painted, naked, and needing her help to get out of a bad situation. I think the two actually fit well together.

I'm hoping Juan Diego will show his stuff as Rodrigo.

Quite frankly, I get a little tired of alpha males after a while. Maybe it's because of the "sweet goofball" angle that I like this show so much.

I have to admit that Juan Diego being "serious" *is* kind of goofy.

I know Kat said something about it in a recap. Along the lines of "Diego does such and such and then ruins it by doing something weird with his eyes."

Granted it was 30 episodes, but I wasn't impressed by "Rodgrigo." Hopefully it will be better. I know Juan Diego was a grade A jerk in UFCS and did a good job with it.

Oh I love the Diego type, but you can be that type and still captivate. I mean Alonso isn't exactly an alpha male, but I am still drawn to the screen when he's in a scene. Not that I'm not loving Diego, because I am, just that he isn't quite captivating me YET.

Anon6:12-I hear yah! I love Diego, but Alonso is stealing his galan thunder! ;-)

Juan Diego was also a bastardo in Amor bravio as Yago & did a good job as a spoiled conniving asshole.

Alonso totally has a little something, something, that has nothing to do with being an alpha male. Although, the way he slung Irene over his shoulder that time was pretty alpha, and damn hot. ;-)

I think the eye candy is technically supposed to be Eleazar.

technically, he sure is, but we can have a lot of eye candy, something for everyone.

Agreed.

It doesn't even need to be said that my telenovio Marcelo is the eye candy.
