Lo Que La Vida Me Robó, #106, 4-9-2014: For Pedro, the best presents do not come in medium-sized shoe boxes; Nadia tells Victor the truth; DIM makes a very public announcement

Lo refrito #1:  Gracie keeps harping at Carlotta, informing her (again) that she'll regret marrying Basurto, that Josefina has left DIM and that Adolfo is her lover, and that she (Carlotta) would do well to stay on her diet.

Put A Ring On It, Alfie!
Lo refrito # 2:  Adolfo and Basurto are feeling the aftershocks of the murder of Padre Anselmo.  Basurto is really angry about what happened, threatening to kill Adolfo with his own hands for creating such a problem and being such an imbecile.  He can't believe Adolfo went rogue and didn't tell him about Pedro's plans to kill the Padre and then also maligned and implicated Basurto himself.  Basurto claims he would have arranged things differently if he'd known, but it was too late.  He wants to know what happened to Padre Anselmo's ring?  They need it as proof to show Pedro.

An anguished, guilt-ridden Adolfo cries as Basurto wishes him good night and leaves him alone with the box o' body part.

Daddy Day-Care, Agua Azul Edition
Beach House Almonte:  Alejandro is enjoying his paternity leave (aka his life) with Baby Lauro while Victor looks on and worries that the baby is cold and needs the blanket.  Superior care-taker Ale condescendingly wonders how the baby could possibly be cold when the weather is so hot?  Victor coos that the baby is pretty just as abuela reinforcements (Rosario) arrive to take Lauro for his nap.  Per telenovela tradition, the baby is carted off just as the real action begins:

"The beauties have arrived," comments Victor as Nadia and Montserrat walk in.

Things seem odd and both Nadia and Montse looks nervous.  Ale wonders why they don't have bags and things since they went shopping.  Nadia looks especially anxious, and Victor asks her, "What happened?  Why this face?"

She tells him what she's been keeping from him for some time, "I'm pregnant, Victor."

Victor looks stunned but not displeased, but behind HIM, Alejandro looks about as happy at this news of Nadia's as I've ever seen him on the show.  Guess our Alpha Male just really likes babies.

Josefina's Family Mansion:  We get a long dramatic shot of a forlorn Dimitrio standing outside in the garden looking towards the house while inside, Josefina, Tomás, and Santo are eating dinner.  Josefina comments that she wants to take some food out to DIM but Tomás tells her to forget it.  Sandro offers to go out and talk to him, but again, Tomás says no and that DIM has to learn to accept the divorce.  Sandro comments to Josefina that it's too back she and DIM are separating since they seemed such an ideal pair, but Tomás once again just asserts that DIM only wants Josefina's money and that DIM won't be getting a peso.

Back in Beach House Almonte, Victor finally looks as happy as Alejandro about the news of Nadia's pregnancy.  He gets a big old bro' hug from Ale and seems euphoric at the prospect of being a father.  He kisses Nadia who tells him in a low voice that they need to talk.  Ale and Montse excuse themselves to leave them to it.

Victor tells Nadia that he wants her to remain calm, that they need to be together now that she's pregnant and that he'll be in charge of arranging everything.  She tells him to please listen to her because when he knows everything, he's probably not going to want to see her again.  Clearly hurt and upset by her change of tone, he wants to know why and how long she's known about the pregnancy.  She says for some days, but she didn't want to tell him.

"Why," he wonders?
"It's better," she says.
Hesitating, she finally tells him the truth.  "Montse and I went to a clinic.  I was going to end my pregnancy."

Inside their own bedroom, Montserrat is also filling in Alejandro about Nadia's near abortion.  Alejandro comments that he gets that it's complicated, but still thinks it's pretty unfair Nadia would make such a decision without consulting Victor.  Montse defends Nadia saying that she's confused and afraid of what Pedro will do when he finds out.  Ale gets this, too, but still thinks Nadia should have told Victor.  Montse insists that Nadia really needs their support and that it's more serious than Alejandro knows.

"What's happening, Montserrat?" Alejandro asks.
Montserrat says, "Pedro wanted her to get pregnant so then he could raise the child as his own."

Back in the living room, Victor is pursuing much the same line of questioning as Alejandro and also wants to know why Nadia would make such a decision without consulting him.  It's his child, he says.  She tells him that Montse had a premonition that she (Nadia) was having a girl and called the baby by name--Victoria!
Victor can't believe Nadia would kill their baby.  Nadia says, yes, she wanted to, but she couldn't.  Why?  Victor wants to know again.  He's angry, but he still loves her.  She's the most important thing in his life.  Nadia tells Victor that what she's about to tell him will end all love he has for her:

She admits that she and Pedro have both been fooling Victor.  She says that Pedro only allowed Nadia and Victor to be lovers so that Nadia would get pregnant and then Pedro could raise the child as his own.

Victor tells her to shut up--he doesn't want to hear anymore.  She knows what she did is unpardonable.  She tells him that one of the conditions Pedro gave her was that once she got pregnant she had to end things with Victor and never see him again.  Victor says she crazy--that he's not leaving Nadia or his child.  Pedro would have to kill him first.  She says Pedro will do just that.  She begs Victor to forget her, but he just says never.  But she tells him she only has two options:  either to end the pregnancy to be with Victor OR to end with Victor to have the baby.  And guess what?  She's choosing the baby.  She doesn't expect Victor to forgive her but that's how it is.

"Hasta nunca, Victor," she tells him.  "Until never."  And she leaves.

Still, the writers have chosen not to milk Nadia's dramatic departure as we might expect, since less than a second later (a far cry from hasta nunca!) in the very next scene we see Victor running down the front steps of the beach house, begging Nadia not to go.  He tells her they can have it all.  The only thing Nadia has to renounce is her miserable life with miserable Pedro.  Nadia says Pedro will never divorce her, especially now that she's pregnant.  He says she doesn't need a divorce to leave Agua Azul forever and to be with Victor.  Victor says he'll take her away to where Pedro will never find them.  They will disappear and be happy.

"Yes," she says. "Take me where you like.  Save me."

They embrace and kiss.

How Didn't You Know It's Not What I Always Wanted?
Pedro's Office:  Pedro is at that moment trying to find Nadia whereabouts, wondering where in the devil she is.  Adolfo knocks on the door.  Pedro wonders when he returned and how things went with the Padre.  Adolfo shows Pedro a cardboard box.

"I brought you the proof you wanted," Adolfo tells Pedro.

Inside the box is something that horrifies even hard-hearted Pedro:  the hand of the now-dead Padre Anselmo!  We in Viewerville are spared the sight, but, surprisingly weak-stomached for someone so cold-blooded, Pedro is gagging and dry-heaving as he stares inside and and gets angry at Adolfo for bringing in something so revolting, berating him--though presumably he is also happy about Father Anselmo's death.

"How dare you!" Pedro cries, smacking Alfie upside his newly-styled head.

Calmly, Adolfo only says he did it so Pedro wouldn't have any doubts about Padre Anselmo's fate.

Pedro wants to know where Adolfo buried the priest;  Alfie says he took care of it.

Pedro tells Adolfo to take the box away.  Adolfo notes that it looks like Pedro is waiting for someone.  Pedro want to know why Adolfo is interested.

Adolfo then asks when Pedro is going to pay him (Adolfo) for the job.  Pedro demurs, saying he needs time.  It's a huge amount in a foreign account, and he doesn't want to arouse suspicions.  He tells Adolfo that from now on, he'll have to learn how to hide money and also, seemingly proud of Adolfo and his growing capacity for evil-doing,  gloats a bit that Adolfo will go far with Pedro.  But Adolfo isn't happy with praise.  He just wants some money.  Pedro agrees and opens up a safe nearby to give Adolfo a small part of what he's owed.  But Pedro doesn't realize that Adolfo has taken a play from Fabiola's playbook and noted the combination.

Busting Out Of This Town
Back in Beach House Almonte:  Victor and Nadia come back into the house to tell Montserrat and Alejandro about their plans to escape and leave Agua Azul forever.  Nadia says she's afraid.  Ale says they can count on his and Montse's support.  Montse hugs Nadia.   She's sad she may not see her friend again or be around when the soon-to-be baby Victoria is born, but Montse is glad that Nadia and Victor can finally be happy.

Waiting outside in another part of Agua Azul is DIM standing vigil over Josefina's family mansion.  Weird music swells.  Inside the house, Josie is watching him from the window of her bedroom, not able to believe he is still standing there. Tomás comes in and tells her to stop looking out at DIM if it bothers her and says that she should go to bed.  He gives her a pill so she can get to sleep and tells her not worry about that imbecile DIM and promises to take care of everything.  She tells Tomás not to call DIM an imbecile but thanks him for his support and help.

The next morning as soon as she wakes up Josefina again runs to the window, opens the curtains, to see--DIM is still there!  She is shocked to think he's been standing there all night.

Back In Pedro's Office:  Sandro has now joined Adolfo and Pedro.  Pedro introduces Alfie as his brother-in-law and then tells Sandro and that he (Pedro) has some excellent news to share.  They talk about their plans to denounce Ale as an impostor and take away his inheritance.  Sandro worries about the judge being on their side (Pedro says not to worry because the judge is a friend) and also about the problem the testimony of the priest but that's when Pedro lets him in on the good news that the Father Anselmo problem has been solved.

"The dead don't talk," Pedro comments.

Pedro asks Alfie to leave and to take the box, assuring Sandro afterwards that neither he nor Fabiola need to worry.  Sandro is still worried that Pedro has the original wills in his safe and thinks that they should be destroyed.  But Pedro says he's keeping them just in case that Sandro and Fabiola happen to forget all the help that he (Pedro) is giving them.

Back in Mansion Josefina,  Josefina has come downstairs in her robe to tell Tomás that DIM is still outside and she wants to go out to talk to him.  Tomás tells her not to or wants to go with her, telling that DIM will work his magic and get her to change her mind about leaving him.  She swears she will be firm.

"Remember, everything out of his mouth is a lie," Tomás intones, reminding her of DIM's no-good ways as she heads out.

Patience and Desperation Finally Pay
In the garden, DIM is thrilled to see Josefina.  He wants to talk, but she insists they've got nothing to talk about and urges him to go.  He begs her not to leave, but she says she's already decided to divorce him and nothing is going to change her mind.  Tomás is going to return her inheritance.  He wants to know if that means she prefers getting her money back to their being together.  She asks him what would he choose in her place?

He tells her everything is getting better and asks once again that she listen to him.  Does she care for him--or is it Adolfo after all?  She's surprised he would think of this, and he reminds her that she kissed Adolfo. She starts getting emotional, telling him about the red rose she received every morning thinking it was from DIM, but it wasn't.  "It was Adolfo, not you!" she tells him in tears.  He tells her Adolfo is tricking her but she insists that both DIM and Adolfo tricked her.  She's sick and tired of both of them and can't take it.

Finally, he asks her to come with him--not to ask questions but just to come.  He promises if she agrees and still wants a divorce afterwards he'll give to her.

He holds out his hand.  "Vamos!" he says.
She hesitates then puts her hand in his.  "OK."

I'll Take a Pinot Noir Chaser With That, Please
Beach House Almonte:  Ale, Montse, and Rosario are together eating breakfast and talking about how well baby Lauro sleeps and how much he is loved--I'll admit that he's adorable, but these people need to start a book club or something to have something more interesting to talk about.  Fabiola enters and needs her morning pick-me-up:  a glass of red wine.  Montse asks if something has happened:  Fabiola looks miserable.

"It's Angélica," Fabiola says, clearly upset.  "She's about to die."

Monte is disturbed by this news and wants to know how Fabiola knows, and Fabiola explains that Jose-Luís went for the doctor and after that told them that very little time remained.

Montse declares suddenly that she has to see Angélica.  Alejandro tells her it's not prudent.  Montse shows her temper and says she doesn't care if it's prudent or not--Angélica is dying and wants to see Montse, and Montse wants to see her.  Alejandro says, in this case, it's best if he goes with her.  Montse says agrees and thanks him.

Jeez, Not That Same Boring Vendetta Again, Pedro!
Pedro greets a new character to our show, Gonzalo, one of the local judges in the Agua Azul Municipality.  They exchange an affectionate greeting and seem like friends.  The Judge even asks if Pedro's wife is pregnant yet.  Pedro assures the judge that they are trying.

The Judge wonders what it is that Pedro needs to tell him.  Pedro says it's about Alejandro Almonte.
To his credit the Judge cries--What again?  He tells Pedro to leave Alejandro in peace.

"This time it's serious!"  promises Pedro.
"The last time you told me the same thing!"  says the Judge.  He reminds Pedro that he forced the Judge to issue a warrant for Alejandro's arrest since supposedly he'd been implicated by a narco, but it all came to nothing.  Pedro swears that THIS TIME it really is different and to just listen to him.  The judge seems fed up but agrees.

Undaunted Pedro launches into the story of how he believes Alejandro is an impostor, pretending to be the son of Old Don Benjamin.

The Judge looks surprised and shocked but seems to find Pedro convincing yet again in spite of his track record of slander against Alejandro.

Beach House Almonte:  Depressed Fabiola drinks through the morning.  Sandro comes in.  She is peeved since she told Sandro not to look for her at Alejandro and Montse's house.  He says they told him at the door that she was home alone.  He wants to know what her problem is--(as if he didn't know!)  She tells him she's sad because Angie is dying.  He doesn't quite buy all this and wonders how Fabiola can be sad when at the same time she wants to steal Angie's husband?  Fabiola says Angie is important and that she's afraid for the moment that Angie stops breathing.

Sandro changes the subject and says he brings happy news.  Everything is working out:  the man who witnessed the last will and testament of Almonte is dead.  Fab wants to know how, but Sandro says it's better for her not to ask questions.  Fab wants to know if Sandro did the job, but he says he had nothing to do with it.  She then wonders about Licenciado Cevera and thinks it odd that no sooner did he announce that he was investigating Sandro than Cervera ended up dead in a fire.  Sandro smiles and insists that all this shows that luck is on their side.

In the Judge's Office, Pedro continues to try to persuade the Judge of Alejandro's latest wrong-doing.  The Judge wants to know if Pedro has proof.  Pedro says he knows certain things that will transform into proof.  First, while he was alive old Don B.  never recognized Ale, and second, the original will and testament made Don B's niece Fabiola the heir.  The Judge wants to know if Pedro has seen this document with his own eyes.  Of course, says Pedro.

Pedro goes on about how Alejandro was born in prison and Rosario maintained Don B. was the father, but Pedro doesn't think they can trust her word.  She was in prison for murder, after all.  He tells the Judge that Rosario killed her boyfriend, Jacinto Sanchez, when Sanchez discovered she was having an affair with Don. B.  The Judge says that if she was having an affair with Don B. that maybe she isn't lying about Don B. being the father of Alejandro.  Pedro says he's confident is was the other guy, but they can find out the truth of Alejandro's paternity with a DNA test.

The Judge insists even this doesn't matter since the will of Don B. exists naming Alejandro as heir, but Pedro is sure the will Don B. made just before he died is completely and totally false.  Pedro says he questioned the only witness, Padre Anselmo, and he seemed nervous and gave the impression he was lying.  The Judge says that word of a priest carries weight, but Pedro insists a priest is just a man like anyone.  What's more everyone else at the hacienda at that time--Cervara, Juventino, María's dad, and María herself--is either dead or has disappeared.

"Don't you think it's all convenient?"  asks Pedro.

The Judge seems to agree.

Death Watch, Agua Azul
Angélica's family and dearest sit together as she grows weaker and weaker.  Amelia has Virginia's head in her lap.  Refugio and Esme are nearby.  The doorbell rings and José-Luis goes to answer the door.  It's Alejandro and Montserrat.

"Allow me to say goodbye to her, please," says Montse.

This is all very sad.

Truth or Dare?...DARE Finally Accepted!
Town Square, Agua Azul:  Josefina asks DIM what they're doing.  DIM wonders if she remembers when she dared him to declare out loud in the square that he loved her.  She says yes.

Dim begins shouting for everyone to listen to him and to pay attention.  He borrows a stool from a man nearby to stand upon and yells even more loudly.  The cathedral bells behind him are ringing as he proclaims that he wants everyone to be his witness--wants all the heavens, stars, cosmos, and the Gods of all religions to know--and most of all for Josefina herself to know--that he, DIM, is an idiot.  He didn't realize what a marvelous woman Josefina was but now he does.

He shouts, "This woman in front of me is MY WIFE!"

"You're making fun of me!"  Josefina protests.

He insists he's not.  "Josefina, I love you!  I love you!  I love you like I never thought I could love anyone!"

In his exuberance he nearly falls off the stool he's still standing on but is undeterred.  He is proclaiming his passion for the world to hear (or at least all of Agua Azul, but that really is the world as far as anyone in the TN is concerned)

"I love you with all my soul and all my heart!"  DIM says again.  "I love you for always."

"Stay.  We'll be happy," he tells her.  He goes in for a kiss.

Will she change her mind about leaving?

End of Episode

Avances:   Angélica tells Montserrat the truth about José-Luis helping Alejandro get out of prison; Pedro brings in Rosario for questioning, and Alejandro demands to know why.

Holy Cow again, Julia!!

It's been such a very long day today, but had to check our blog site before going to bed. You've written a super recap with such detail and precision. I can't believe how you have included so many dialogues! That has to be difficult. I just know it is. I can hardly follow some of these conversations, but you have gotten so many of them in wonderful details!!

THANK YOU!!

Huge kudos to all my Caraymates who were just sure that Dim would be redeemed. I never in my life thought he had it in him. If Fina decides to stay with Dim, then they both need to leave and get away from Graciela. There is a part of me, though that feels that Fina DOES need that divorce (like the Alejandro/Montserrat version) so that she can become her true self.

I had hoped against hope that there would be a miracle for Angelica. I can't believe that we have so much more to go and we are losing this wonderful person.

Urban gave me hope this morning that Padre would still be alive. I guess this body part means it is not to be, but I hope some of you could come up with some alternatives as to what is really happening here.

Thank you so much, Julia!

Fatima

Dear Elna June, Nanette, and Karen, I just read the last of the comments that were posted on last night's episode.

Your incredibly kind and thoughtful comments mean so much to me. You truly have no idea. My family has always seen my "gift" of empathy as a hindrance and something of a nuisance.

Your words have really touched me and have absolutely made my day.

Thank you so very, very much.

Always,

Fatima

Dear Julie R:

What a fabulous recap! I loved all the detail and the way this recap is written, like a good novel, thank you so very much!

Ya know, the way Dimi was standing there all night reminded me of the movie where the guy stands outside his girl's house with the boombox, I can't recall the name of the movie, but it was almost the same. I am so glad he is showing Fina exactly how much he loves her. I wanted to hit Tomas over the head with the nerf bat!

I think Fablush actually does care about Angie, who knew! I'm very surprised. I want to see how she goes on from here.

So Peddy's plan is finally revealed venganza and more venganza. He was right anyone that can help Ale out is dead or disappeared, helped along of course by Peddy and his henchies. I wonder if Addled will do a runner, now that he has the combo to the safe.

I feel for Nadia and Victor. I just hope they never reveal their plans at the love shack, or Victor will be toast.

So, so sad about Angie, but I'm hoping Angie gets to tell Monse all before she goes to the great beyond. I will sorely miss her joie de vivre.

So where is the Padre's body I wonder?????? Could it be he isn't dead????? I won't believe it until I see a body.

Thanks again Julie R. for this most fantastic, wonderful recap : )

Jukia, thanks for the speedy and complete recap and phrases like "I'll take a pinot chaser with that, please." Nice humorous touches.

Who would have thought that Pedro would actually be the cause of some dark humor tonight?

Who would have thought that Pedro would be so squeamish about the "proof" of Pare Anselmo's death that he himself had requested? He was actually funny to watch as he tried to distance himself physically from the box after he looked inside. The way he was looking at the box from a safe distance it was almost as if he expected the hand to jump out of the box or something.

Then we have Pedro's presentation of his hypothesis of Ale being an impostor to the judge. He was like Perry Mason in the courtroom so detailed and so animated. What a hoot!

So glad that it looks like Josefina will not be talked back into her marriage by Dimitrio. She realizes she is vulnerable and has had it with him, Adolfo and Dimitrio's and Adolfo's friendship. Yay!!! They should have put Dimitrio in either a white or a dark shirt because those ugly under arm sweat stains sure were distracting.

For me the whole "Nadia Victor let's run away "plot and the rest was just tedious. I sure hope that Angelica doesn't tell Montse to look after JL for her.

Jarifa

Elna June:

So sorry I didn't see your late comment from yesterday's recap. The reason I think the Padre is still among the living, even with this "proof" of the hand in the box is cause well, I am a half full glass type of gal, and if I don't see a body, I'm not gonna believe it. These writers have fooled us before, and I'm just not buying it. I'm not from Missouri but ya gotta show me the body, then I'll believe it ; )

Julia, i didn't spell your name correctly. Sorry. My fingers still aren't used to this tablet.

Jarifa

Dear Fatima, Mads, and Jarifa: Thanks so much for reading and commenting early. I'm so glad you enjoyed the recap.

The various subheadings would have been captions to screenshots, but I just didn't have time this round to do them. It's the end of the semester at my college, and work is crazy.
Luckily (?!?) we've got months to go on this, so I'm sure I'll have plenty of occasions to do some more screenshots soon.

I would say that Father Anselmo could still be alive even with the hand in the box as proof of his death for Pedro. I mentioned yesterday on a comment that Basurto could have just gotten a hand at the morgue, though he would have had to test a few to make sure the ring would fit!

Best to all who read today! I may not have time to comment back on your comments, but I will read and appreciate everything you say.

Un abrazo!
Julie R.

Beautifully written recap, just like reading the chapter in a well written novel. Loved your scene captions which supplied us with needed oxygen!!
I, too, hope the finger in the box is not Padre but then who would it be? Where would EZ get a finger? Or a hand? I doubt that Pedro would get that sick over a joke-shop fake hand.
I find it sort of humorous, EZ said to Fofo yesterday that he should have told him about Pedro's order at the beginning and he would have had the Padre hide out, too, and pretend to be dead. If they keep having to hide people they are going to need a village, Pedro has ordered so many hits.
Nadia better stop hanging out talking with Victor and the Almontes and they should get on that plane, and she shouldn't even go home for her clothes!

Great work, Julia.

I'm sure that Padre Anselmo is still alive and the box contained a beef heart. What else could make Pedro so squeamish?

Also, look at how Adolfo and EZ handled that box. It would have been a lot heavier if it contained a head (which it's too small for anyway).

No matter what the treatment of time in novelas EZ had to have thought this through on his way to meet Adolfo. He knows Adolfo is a coward and that he also isn't a killer. He's not good at advance planning and doesn't think on his feet. All Adolfo is to him is a greedy kid who only wants enough money to party. Certainly not the best partner in crime (or crime fighting).

If Adolfo survives this tale (the jury is out on that) he will need to spend a lot of time on a shrink's couch.

However, if he actually does remember the combination to the safe he can rescue the final will of Don Benjamin. I have grave doubts, however, that he will be smart enough to know what to do with it.

I so looked forward to your recap this morning Julia and being able to read again the very entertaining and superbly acted scenes last night. All the detail brought it all back and I'm smiling all over again.

Everything about DimFine was just perfection last night. The writing, the subtle directorial touches, the perfect acting by both performers. The nuances both give in their facial expressions, body language, moves...going to go out there and say those scenes last night made sticking with watching this TN absolutely worthwhile. Now will Fina cave in...I'm not so sure to be honest. Sap that I am, I hope so, but she may want to take it slow or be able to gain her independence again and THEN begin a new chapter in her life, perhaps with Dim. My only worry is that if she denies him, would he slip back down the rabbit hole to his old ways. Do NOT want that to happen. I can't wait to see them play this out. Thank you writers for giving us more than 5 minutes with these two.

Oh, and there was other stuff. Victor/Nadia--whatever. Poor Victor--you didn't fall for someone who's the brightest bulb in the room, but at least she told him the truth now. Love him, but I could take this whole plot line and make it go away.

I'm guessing we lose Angie by the Friday night cliffhanger. And I won't even comment on what I thought I heard on the previews. I'm almost rooting for Fabs to make her moves so this blasted triangle goes away. Why do writers think this a plot line that viewers love being strung out forever. We never do. It always fails in TV shows after a short period. Move on already.

Figured we would get a body part---BUT, is it the padre? This whole TN is setting up that the corrupted minions are going to take down the evil leader. Adolfo is looking sicker and sicker and at this point I think he feels like he has nothing to lose. Go for it you dweeb.

I vote we take a hiatus with everyone after Angie leaves us and have a DimFine exclusive episode. Bet the Patio would be packed!

Daisynjay

Oh, and jjst ready your comment and yes, Mads! "Say Anything." One of the "funnest" movies ever. And Dim even has a bit of the John Cusack look about him, just a bit shorter.

Daisynjay

Good morning. Thank you , JuliaR.for that excellent speedy recap.

I was thinking of Justin timberlake's SNL skit last night when Pedro looked into THAT BOX. Sylvia would remember that skit.

As for Dim's vigil...I guess it is true that "they also serve who only stand and wait"...and need a shower and a hot meal.

Nadia and VIk are truly Dumb and Dumber.

Add me to the list that despite THAT HAND in THAT BOX the good padre still lives. Perhaps Ez visited the city morgue for that hand.

Hi again everyone,

Just wanted to say that I thought Pedro said specifically last night that the thing in the box was a hand. Did I not hear this correctly? What did he say exactly?

Thanks for confirming someone!

Oh, I so, so hope y'all are right about The Hand.

I also hope we are turning the corner on these stupid love triangles. If they are going to drag this to August they can't keep serving leftovers.

Julia, a delicious concoction laden with flavorful, juicy ingredients. You have a flair for writing and obviously enjoy what you are doing. I am appreciative and impressed.

I laughed out loud at "box o' body part". I couldn't help myself! "but behind HIM, Alejandro looks about as happy at this news of Nadia's as I've ever seen him on the show", "How dare you!" Pedro cries, smacking Alfie upside his newly-styled head" and "I'll Take a Pinot Noir Chaser With That, Please" were among my many favorites. Spicy yet sweet. Fantastic.

"Nadia says she's afraid". Yes. As well she should...

My lack of comprehension skills is adding to my confusion as to what exactly in the box. I would hardly think that a hand would have caused Pedro to gag. A heart? Yes. Hand? I can't see it. Are we absolutely certain it's a hand? Also, did Adolfo actually look in the box??

Lots of interesting theories here as to what happened to the Padre and could EZ be working undercover (UA I believe). I'm with Madelaine - I want to see the body before I believe the dear padre has actually departed. Don't give up home Fatima! I haven't...

Loved seeing Dim coming to his senses and trying to win Fina back.

If Sylvia were here, she would be saying "blech" to the recent events here. I sadly concur.

daisy, hope you have a wonderful time with your son.

Wonderful comments all.

Julia, you rock. Totally.

Diana

Don't give up hope Fatima. Not home! Lol...

Diana

I am holding on to hope, Diana!!! Thank you. :)

Fatima

Adolfo is worthless. He is useless. He had better use his so called good looks (he's not my type...too pretty with hands that reek of laziness) while he can because I think his job in life will be one of a lazy, shiftless gigolo.

Agree with Urban, if he has the sense to open that safe, he won't know what to do with the original will when he finds it.

As for Victor and Nadia, isn't it a small miracle that Nadia's truth telling wasn't in their bugged love shack? I guess the writers thought they would throw us a bone.

Fatima

I do not speak Spanish but the English "cc's" had Pedro referring to what was in the box as a hand. And if you remember, when EZ gave the box to Fofo, he said here's something to go with the ring. While some have thought it might be a finger, the box size indicated that it was larger than a finger. So it's definitely a hand. But the question is now, "Is it Father Anselmo's?" I think EZ killed the padre. Could be wrong. I just do not see EZ hiding the priest or Padre agreeing to such a ruse.
RIP

I think the padre would agree to this ruse if it meant bringing Pedro down, which would protect a lot of people.

EZ has access to the county morgue and adequate dinero to bribe someone to remove a hand from a male cadaver. A clever last-minute plan.

Thanks for another most excellent recap, Julia.

"How Didn't You Know It's Not What I Always Wanted?"

Heh heh.

Loved watching Pedro retch when he opened the box... hated that it might have been the padre's hand which triggered it.

Pedro said, "The priest's ring would have been sufficient. You didn't have to bring me this disgusting hand."

So I think we can safely assume that the box contained a hand... not necessarily the padre's hand.

If Victor wasn't aware of Pedro's plan for him and Nadia, what the heck did he think that Pedro was up to? With Nadia and Victor as her parents, might as well reserve a seat on the short bus for little Victoria.

Carlos

True, but Victor is not yet aware of Pedro's shortcomings.

I am imagining a confrontation in which he takes a dangerous shot in the dark by saying "So you're not man enough to make your beautiful wife pregnant?" and a major fight happens.

Julia R - Terrific recap. Thanks a bunch. My favorites:

Put A Ring On It, Alfie!

I'll admit that he's adorable {Laurito}, but these people need to start a book club or something to have something more interesting to talk about.

I really do hope that Nadia and Victor make a clean getaway to an exotic place, cause a new locale for them is what I need to get interested in this story. It takes an industrial-strength beanie to buy that Nadia won't ask her very rich and powerful parents to help her out of this mess. The parents cut off Adolfo, but not Nadia.

I vote the hand is not the Padre's. I sure hope they give us a flashback soon of what EZ and Padre Anselmo did. So Adolfo just left the hand on the table/desk? Will he have the decency to at least give it a decent burial?

Fab reminds me too much of Adolfo. Yes, she feels something for Angie, but when the going gets rough she will do whatever to save her own lazy hide. She's taking the sudden, convenient departure of the licenciado and the Padre too well for me.

ITA Dim was cute standing vigil. In addition to Say Anything!, it reminded me of Juan in FELS standing in the rain with his horse all night outside Sofia's balcony. Who knew that Dim and Fina would bring the sorely needed wooing and romance?

"Who knew that Dim and Fina would bring the sorely needed wooing and romance?"

Well said, Niecie because Alejandro and Montserrat sure are not bringing it. There are so many unaddressed problems in that romance starting with the fact that neither party seems to behave like an adult.

If Victor/Victoria is on the short bus, I guess Laurito will be taking that same bus.

Fatima

Maybe it was a hand with the middle finger extended.

Or maybe it was that pareja that Pedro has been lacking for so long.

That could explain the revulsion, that get that thing away from me reaction.

About the box...If anyone is a Game of Thrones watcher, last season a father received one of his sons body parts in a box. Blecchh

Niecie...I think that Addled carried THE BOX out of the room with him when he left. I think Pedro told him to take it away. We did not see the murder or the body, do I think padre is still alive. As for EZ being some kind of undercover agent...He killed that guy in cold blood so I doubt that he is a good guy. However, I hope that he can bring Pedro's reign of terror to an end. Sergio always looks and plays an oily lounge lizard. His greased up ducktail makes him look like anjames Dean wannabe. It's his signature Luke.

Hi, Julia Rols:

You wrote a wonderful and very detailed recap! Thank you so much. Like Fatima, I am shocked that Dimitrio really seems to be serious about anything, let alone his wife.

Folks, I heard "hand" and it is congruous with the ring comment. I feel quite sure it is a hand, but, as all have said before me, who was the owner of said hand?

I think the actor playing Adolfo is giving us some winning performances portraying a weak, lazy and wretched soul. I cannot imagine how the character could survive if he doesn't take the money and run. Head for Brazil, Adolfo, if you want to save your own skin.

Pedro will figure out his game sooner rather than later, probably when Maria makes an ill-timed appearance at La Escondida.

Thanks again, Julia, for the excellent recap.

Elna June

Hi, EJ...yes, you are so right in the adjectives you chose to describe our Fofo,,and when you are weak, lazy, and wretched, you can get in over your head very quickly. Like other weak, lazy souls , Fofo is traveling down a slippery slope and will pay a high price for his weakness and laziness as happens in real life. As you sow, so shall you reap.

Thank you so much, Julia R, for this lovely, detailed recap. I'm especially glad you lingered over the Dimitrio - Josefina story. I for one don't think that allowing Tomás to isolate her in Mexico City is going to help her grow as a person. I have my fingers and toes crossed that Dim will persuade his Fina that his love is true -- and then get her away from the malignant influence of both Graciela and Tomás.

The conversation that Dimitrio had with Captain Robledo a few episodes earlier was important. Dimitrio admitted that he needed time to address his marital problems, but he made it clear that his commitment to the navy -- and his life as a responsible human being -- wasn't dependent on the success or failure of his marriage.

"Ale, Montse, and Rosario are together eating breakfast and talking about how well baby Lauro sleeps and how much he is loved--I'll admit that he's adorable, but these people need to start a book club or something to have something more interesting to talk about. "

Maybe so. But I remember a baby-besotted time in my life when Mr. Maven and I and any grandparent at hand could obsess happily and at great length about our little darling. Incredibly tedious to anyone outside the little circle? Of course. But the scene was well-observed and rang true to my experience, such as it is.

And yes, Julia, Pedro did definitely say the thing in the box was a disgusting hand. And I, like so many of you, cling to the hope that it was just the hand of some random cadaver. (A boar's heart would have been more in keeping with a fairytale. This is more like mafia stuff. Ugh.)

My dear Elna June, It looks as if Angélica has been waiting until she has had a chance to say her goodbyes to you. Oy.

It is mysterious how the dying can hold on waiting for someone. As my sister, mother, aunt, nieces, and I gathered around his bed in the hospital, I was upset that he just could not finally pass peacefully. My sister told me that she thought that he was waiting for my daughters (one was driving home from college and the other was playing field hockey). My hubby arrived with the girls, and about fifteen minutes later, my dad died.

Whoops..he ..was referring to my dad

Oh my, this was a gruesome episode but you lightened it up with some much needed humor, Julia. I especially enjoyed your nod to the Beyoncé song Put A Ring On It. Well played, my friend.

And thanks, NovelaMaven for saying what I was thinking also. There is a time when your whole life and energy revolve around the needs of a baby. And while you are utterly boring to anyone outside that charmed circle, it is perfectly natural to natter on about the little creature and all that's happening.

And if you're a happy, well-adjusted adult, it's probably because somebody in your life was much more interested in you as a little one, than in a book club or local politics. Nurturing in the early months and years is a full-time job.

But opinions may vary, as Carlos would say.

And let's thank the writers for some good ol Josefina and Dimitrio time. That's the only interesting story on the line right now. I'm not bored with little Laurito but I could put Nadia and Vic on a plane this minute!

Thanks Ms. Julia for a witty, detailed recap in the midst of all your responsibilities during exam time. Much appreciated.

Susanlynn...your story really rang true. Curiously, others wait until they have a moment alone before they can leave. If a loved one has kept vigil constantly at the hospital, often the dying person will pass the minute they go home to take a shower.

The important thing to remember is nobody ever dies alone. I have been with too many dying people and have seen that distant look in their eyes as they see and talk to loved ones whom we cannot perceive. There is a comfort in seeing their joy and their calm at a time like that.

Just to say that Adolfito looks great with his new haircut. So nice to have all that long, greasy hair shorn! He looked pretty great in his pale suit. It's the small things now as the story seems to be dragging.

I love Josefina's preoccupation with food and proper mealtimes. So true to life -- She's always concerned with Dimi's receiving proper food and rest. What's not to love about her?

I don't think the good Padre is dead. That would be too much! I expect him to turn up at some highly dramatic moment. I think Adolfo is playing a high-stakes game, hoping to come out on top.

The interior decor at Josefina's is so odd and out of date but loved the shot of the garden at night, lit up. SO pretty.

A bit alarmed by the bottle of sleeping pills conveniently placed in Finita's nightstand drawer. Chekhov's gun, anyone? Since we got a shot of her with her hair down in a better way, here's to hoping that the makeover comes soon. It drives me crazy to continue to see VJ looking so schlumpy when she's such a knockout.

Thanks as always for the great, funny, detailed recap!

JudyB: What a lovely thing to write, above. Really made my day. I will keep that in my back pocket; lots of wisdom and comfort in what you wrote. Thanks.

Fabulous recap, Julia.

I just saw the last few minutes of this epi, so I missed The Hand, but got to see Dim's declaration of love (on TWO stools stacked on each other- impressive), and the scene when Monse and Ale enter JL's and Angie's home. Just a small point of clarification, because it would be clear if you didn't see the episode-- the beloved daughter on the couch with her head in Amelia's lap was Virginia. Angie was in the bedroom, I believe, while everyone else was in the living room looking forlorn.

I hope Fina makes it clear to Dim that she does love him, but needs to work on loving herself before she can go back to him. That way, he won't go back to the dark side, but she can continue on her path to self love and confidence. Hopefully, she doesn't have to go to D.F. for that, because her presence would be missed by the audience.

JuliaR: Thanks for the recap. I will be watching some of the ep tonight.

Fatima: sometimes our families don’t see us, even though they love us, especially if we’re the “misfits”. Oh, what they miss out on!

I’m not too sure Fina is going to stay. She still looked pretty sad when Dim was kissing her. Vivi: here’s hoping that the Dim/Fina scene ends as you’ve written it.

I think the padre is still alive. My fear is that he had to sacrifice his own hand. Ewww! The other problem is he’s not likely to want to stay in hiding for long.

Diana: I believe Alpo looked inside the box before his “perdone me” in the last ep.

This TN could explain EZ killing that narco guy in cold blood as an undercover cop. Refugio killing the lieutenant was kind of blurring the line.

JudyB: when my father died, my mother had gone home to shower and change. My sister was at the hospital, but I don’t know if she was at his bedside (I was in CA, this happened in IN). My father saw a field with flowers. It will be 20 years in June and I still miss him. It’s like it happened a million years ago and at the same time just a few days ago.

Can’t wait for Fab’s road to redemption. I believe it’s coming.

Nanette

Judy, thank you for your glorious insight. You give us hope that those we love die in peace and not alone.

Nanette: "It’s like it happened a million years ago and at the same time just a few days ago". How perfect that is. Time fades the pain but the loss remains. I've missed my mother every day since she passed 18 years ago. Hugs.

Diana

Nanette and Diana..I know what you mean. My dad died 19 years ago and my mother six years ago, and it does seem like yesterday and a million years ago. Since hub and I built our home on my dad's farm, I feel him around me whenever I walk outside. My grandmother who lived with us died when I was 11, but I still feel her around me. Sometimes, I feel that our loved ones just move into another dimension that we can not see but can sometimes feel.

My aunt described losing someone you love this way...First the pain is like an open wound, sore, bleeding, throbbing. Then, after time passes, a scab forms as the intense pain fades. finally, a scar appears that you carry forever and that still has some phantom pain from time to time.

Julia,
Thanks so much for your recap. It was very detailed, plus witty and funny. I read it twice.

I am sticking with the Padre's not dead. EZ either took the Padre's hand or got it from somewhere. Being a crooked police chief, I think he has connections. Also, the Padre might be being held against his own will. If EZ could not convince the Padre, then maybe EZ is holding the Padre as a "prisoner".

I am glad that Fina talked with Dimi. I just hope that if she decides to leave town, Dimi doesn't fall. He has come a long way, and I don't want him to leave the Marina, or God forbid ask his mother for help. Bleh!

I am glad that Nadia told Victor she's pregnant. I hope they are able to leave the country safely, and get away from Peddy for a while.

It was kind of funny to see Pedo's reaction to the hand in the box. Maybe he has a weakness at the sight of blood. It could be why he has other people do his dirty work. He might hate the sight of blood and body parts because it brings back memories if his accident. Either way, I was glad that for once he was uncomfortable and distraught.

In my opinion, the jury's still out on Faby. I'm not sure she is redeemable. She didn't seem to have any emotion when Sandy told her that the Padre had been taken care of. And I think she pointed out the fact that Cevera had conveniently died after she told Sandy that the licenciado was investigating him. She has to know that people are being eliminated for her convenience. But in some weird way, I do think she cares for Angie. In her own way.

Back to work...hasta pronto!

I'm so hoping that Padre Anselmo still lives, but where could he be? And is he missing a limb? Yikes! I simply can't imagine Zeke arranging to keep him prisoner or even more unlikely ... convincing the padre to cooperate with him.

Wouldn't you think that the judge should be a little suspicious that Pedro is taking such keen interest in the affairs of the Almonte family?

Carlos

I still think Fab's redeemable. When she made that nasty comment about Angie and when Sandro told her the about the Padre, etc. she was tipsy or drunk. I'm thinking once she's off the sauce, she'll be on the road to redemption and then I can see her with JL. Though my fear is JL might be one of the TN requisite good guys killed towards the end.

There's a little bit of anger at my dad, too. He's missed out on so much. Of course, totally unreasonable. Miss him so much. He was a tremendous person, liked by everybody. His family adored him.

UHoh...I hope that the good padre is not in the witness protection program with Malria at The Hideaway. Yikes he will be trying to save her soul 24/7 , and she will be trying to get him to coean those toilets.

Clean

Susanlynn,

Now there's a scene I'd love to see... our padre on his knees cleaning a toilet with one hand preaching to our María who is busy mopping the floor as our Esmeralda sits back munching bonbons while sipping Champagne.

Carlos

Our family has suffered two losses recently, and this subject of the process of dying is both interesting and agonizing.

Then there are the TeleNovela stages of dying. This is a very different process.
1. Looking a bit wan.
2. Becoming more saintly in attitude, less selfish.
3. The loose lips stage-the necessity to either confess faults to others, or to reveal secrets.

Anyone think of any others?

Carlos...I am visualizing it now just as you described...but in my vision, Esme is twirling around that pole while she eats the bonbon.

The most memorable death I can recall is Antonio's duel with wicked Diego (our JL) in Alborada. Evil Diegp ran him through with his sword from behind. He somersaulted backwards down an outdoor flight of cement steps. He took several episodes to die and gave many speeches.

"The important thing to remember is nobody ever dies alone. I have been with too many dying people and have seen that distant look in their eyes as they see and talk to loved ones whom we cannot perceive. There is a comfort in seeing their joy and their calm at a time like that."

JudyBThank you SO much for this. It is absolutely uncanny how so many of your pearls of wisdom come at exactly the right time for me. Thank you, dear amiga.

Nanette, amiga, yes, you hit the nail on the head. I am the family misfit. I'm so glad you are still commenting here, Nanette. You always bring a smile to my face.

Fatima

Susanlynn, I think it is absolutely perfect that you built your home on your father's farm. I am sure you feel him there. How wonderful to have a farm.

Fatima

I just have to weigh in on the Adolfo looks. I loved him in neon colors and with greasy stringy hair but the new look makes him too baby-faced. I take it I am in the minority.
And I too think the hand in the box is from a cadaver. Who would recognize a dead hand? Easy switch.
I find EZ the most puzzeling character--good, bad, evil, changing--hints of everything but we don't have access to his real thoughts.
