Lo Que La Vida Me Robó, #106, 4-9-2014: For Pedro, the best presents do not come in medium-sized shoe boxes; Nadia tells Victor the truth; DIM makes a very public announcement
Lo refrito # 2: Adolfo and Basurto are feeling the aftershocks of the murder of Padre Anselmo. Basurto is really angry about what happened, threatening to kill Adolfo with his own hands for creating such a problem and being such an imbecile. He can't believe Adolfo went rogue and didn't tell him about Pedro's plans to kill the Padre and then also maligned and implicated Basurto himself. Basurto claims he would have arranged things differently if he'd known, but it was too late. He wants to know what happened to Padre Anselmo's ring? They need it as proof to show Pedro.
Pedro wants to know where Adolfo buried the priest; Alfie says he took care of it.
Pedro tells Adolfo to take the box away. Adolfo notes that it looks like Pedro is waiting for someone. Pedro want to know why Adolfo is interested.
Adolfo then asks when Pedro is going to pay him (Adolfo) for the job. Pedro demurs, saying he needs time. It's a huge amount in a foreign account, and he doesn't want to arouse suspicions. He tells Adolfo that from now on, he'll have to learn how to hide money and also, seemingly proud of Adolfo and his growing capacity for evil-doing, gloats a bit that Adolfo will go far with Pedro. But Adolfo isn't happy with praise. He just wants some money. Pedro agrees and opens up a safe nearby to give Adolfo a small part of what he's owed. But Pedro doesn't realize that Adolfo has taken a play from Fabiola's playbook and noted the combination.
Waiting outside in another part of Agua Azul is DIM standing vigil over Josefina's family mansion. Weird music swells. Inside the house, Josie is watching him from the window of her bedroom, not able to believe he is still standing there. Tomás comes in and tells her to stop looking out at DIM if it bothers her and says that she should go to bed. He gives her a pill so she can get to sleep and tells her not worry about that imbecile DIM and promises to take care of everything. She tells Tomás not to call DIM an imbecile but thanks him for his support and help.
The next morning as soon as she wakes up Josefina again runs to the window, opens the curtains, to see--DIM is still there! She is shocked to think he's been standing there all night.
"The dead don't talk," Pedro comments.
Pedro asks Alfie to leave and to take the box, assuring Sandro afterwards that neither he nor Fabiola need to worry. Sandro is still worried that Pedro has the original wills in his safe and thinks that they should be destroyed. But Pedro says he's keeping them just in case that Sandro and Fabiola happen to forget all the help that he (Pedro) is giving them.
Montse declares suddenly that she has to see Angélica. Alejandro tells her it's not prudent. Montse shows her temper and says she doesn't care if it's prudent or not--Angélica is dying and wants to see Montse, and Montse wants to see her. Alejandro says, in this case, it's best if he goes with her. Montse says agrees and thanks him.
He shouts, "This woman in front of me is MY WIFE!"

It's been such a very long day today, but had to check our blog site before going to bed. You've written a super recap with such detail and precision. I can't believe how you have included so many dialogues! That has to be difficult. I just know it is. I can hardly follow some of these conversations, but you have gotten so many of them in wonderful details!!
THANK YOU!!
Huge kudos to all my Caraymates who were just sure that Dim would be redeemed. I never in my life thought he had it in him. If Fina decides to stay with Dim, then they both need to leave and get away from Graciela. There is a part of me, though that feels that Fina DOES need that divorce (like the Alejandro/Montserrat version) so that she can become her true self.
I had hoped against hope that there would be a miracle for Angelica. I can't believe that we have so much more to go and we are losing this wonderful person.
Urban gave me hope this morning that Padre would still be alive. I guess this body part means it is not to be, but I hope some of you could come up with some alternatives as to what is really happening here.
Thank you so much, Julia!
Fatima
Your incredibly kind and thoughtful comments mean so much to me. You truly have no idea. My family has always seen my "gift" of empathy as a hindrance and something of a nuisance.
Your words have really touched me and have absolutely made my day.
Thank you so very, very much.
Always,
Fatima
What a fabulous recap! I loved all the detail and the way this recap is written, like a good novel, thank you so very much!
Ya know, the way Dimi was standing there all night reminded me of the movie where the guy stands outside his girl's house with the boombox, I can't recall the name of the movie, but it was almost the same. I am so glad he is showing Fina exactly how much he loves her. I wanted to hit Tomas over the head with the nerf bat!
I think Fablush actually does care about Angie, who knew! I'm very surprised. I want to see how she goes on from here.
So Peddy's plan is finally revealed venganza and more venganza. He was right anyone that can help Ale out is dead or disappeared, helped along of course by Peddy and his henchies. I wonder if Addled will do a runner, now that he has the combo to the safe.
I feel for Nadia and Victor. I just hope they never reveal their plans at the love shack, or Victor will be toast.
So, so sad about Angie, but I'm hoping Angie gets to tell Monse all before she goes to the great beyond. I will sorely miss her joie de vivre.
So where is the Padre's body I wonder?????? Could it be he isn't dead????? I won't believe it until I see a body.
Thanks again Julie R. for this most fantastic, wonderful recap : )
Who would have thought that Pedro would actually be the cause of some dark humor tonight?
Who would have thought that Pedro would be so squeamish about the "proof" of Pare Anselmo's death that he himself had requested? He was actually funny to watch as he tried to distance himself physically from the box after he looked inside. The way he was looking at the box from a safe distance it was almost as if he expected the hand to jump out of the box or something.
Then we have Pedro's presentation of his hypothesis of Ale being an impostor to the judge. He was like Perry Mason in the courtroom so detailed and so animated. What a hoot!
So glad that it looks like Josefina will not be talked back into her marriage by Dimitrio. She realizes she is vulnerable and has had it with him, Adolfo and Dimitrio's and Adolfo's friendship. Yay!!! They should have put Dimitrio in either a white or a dark shirt because those ugly under arm sweat stains sure were distracting.
For me the whole "Nadia Victor let's run away "plot and the rest was just tedious. I sure hope that Angelica doesn't tell Montse to look after JL for her.
Jarifa
So sorry I didn't see your late comment from yesterday's recap. The reason I think the Padre is still among the living, even with this "proof" of the hand in the box is cause well, I am a half full glass type of gal, and if I don't see a body, I'm not gonna believe it. These writers have fooled us before, and I'm just not buying it. I'm not from Missouri but ya gotta show me the body, then I'll believe it ; )
Jarifa
The various subheadings would have been captions to screenshots, but I just didn't have time this round to do them. It's the end of the semester at my college, and work is crazy.
Luckily (?!?) we've got months to go on this, so I'm sure I'll have plenty of occasions to do some more screenshots soon.
I would say that Father Anselmo could still be alive even with the hand in the box as proof of his death for Pedro. I mentioned yesterday on a comment that Basurto could have just gotten a hand at the morgue, though he would have had to test a few to make sure the ring would fit!
Best to all who read today! I may not have time to comment back on your comments, but I will read and appreciate everything you say.
Un abrazo!
Julie R.
I, too, hope the finger in the box is not Padre but then who would it be? Where would EZ get a finger? Or a hand? I doubt that Pedro would get that sick over a joke-shop fake hand.
I find it sort of humorous, EZ said to Fofo yesterday that he should have told him about Pedro's order at the beginning and he would have had the Padre hide out, too, and pretend to be dead. If they keep having to hide people they are going to need a village, Pedro has ordered so many hits.
Nadia better stop hanging out talking with Victor and the Almontes and they should get on that plane, and she shouldn't even go home for her clothes!
Great work, Julia.
I'm sure that Padre Anselmo is still alive and the box contained a beef heart. What else could make Pedro so squeamish?
Also, look at how Adolfo and EZ handled that box. It would have been a lot heavier if it contained a head (which it's too small for anyway).
No matter what the treatment of time in novelas EZ had to have thought this through on his way to meet Adolfo. He knows Adolfo is a coward and that he also isn't a killer. He's not good at advance planning and doesn't think on his feet. All Adolfo is to him is a greedy kid who only wants enough money to party. Certainly not the best partner in crime (or crime fighting).
If Adolfo survives this tale (the jury is out on that) he will need to spend a lot of time on a shrink's couch.
However, if he actually does remember the combination to the safe he can rescue the final will of Don Benjamin. I have grave doubts, however, that he will be smart enough to know what to do with it.
Everything about DimFine was just perfection last night. The writing, the subtle directorial touches, the perfect acting by both performers. The nuances both give in their facial expressions, body language, moves...going to go out there and say those scenes last night made sticking with watching this TN absolutely worthwhile. Now will Fina cave in...I'm not so sure to be honest. Sap that I am, I hope so, but she may want to take it slow or be able to gain her independence again and THEN begin a new chapter in her life, perhaps with Dim. My only worry is that if she denies him, would he slip back down the rabbit hole to his old ways. Do NOT want that to happen. I can't wait to see them play this out. Thank you writers for giving us more than 5 minutes with these two.
Oh, and there was other stuff. Victor/Nadia--whatever. Poor Victor--you didn't fall for someone who's the brightest bulb in the room, but at least she told him the truth now. Love him, but I could take this whole plot line and make it go away.
I'm guessing we lose Angie by the Friday night cliffhanger. And I won't even comment on what I thought I heard on the previews. I'm almost rooting for Fabs to make her moves so this blasted triangle goes away. Why do writers think this a plot line that viewers love being strung out forever. We never do. It always fails in TV shows after a short period. Move on already.
Figured we would get a body part---BUT, is it the padre? This whole TN is setting up that the corrupted minions are going to take down the evil leader. Adolfo is looking sicker and sicker and at this point I think he feels like he has nothing to lose. Go for it you dweeb.
I vote we take a hiatus with everyone after Angie leaves us and have a DimFine exclusive episode. Bet the Patio would be packed!

I was thinking of Justin timberlake's SNL skit last night when Pedro looked into THAT BOX. Sylvia would remember that skit.
As for Dim's vigil...I guess it is true that "they also serve who only stand and wait"...and need a shower and a hot meal.
Nadia and VIk are truly Dumb and Dumber.
Add me to the list that despite THAT HAND in THAT BOX the good padre still lives. Perhaps Ez visited the city morgue for that hand.
Just wanted to say that I thought Pedro said specifically last night that the thing in the box was a hand. Did I not hear this correctly? What did he say exactly?
Thanks for confirming someone!
I also hope we are turning the corner on these stupid love triangles. If they are going to drag this to August they can't keep serving leftovers.
I laughed out loud at "box o' body part". I couldn't help myself! "but behind HIM, Alejandro looks about as happy at this news of Nadia's as I've ever seen him on the show", "How dare you!" Pedro cries, smacking Alfie upside his newly-styled head" and "I'll Take a Pinot Noir Chaser With That, Please" were among my many favorites. Spicy yet sweet. Fantastic.
"Nadia says she's afraid". Yes. As well she should...
My lack of comprehension skills is adding to my confusion as to what exactly in the box. I would hardly think that a hand would have caused Pedro to gag. A heart? Yes. Hand? I can't see it. Are we absolutely certain it's a hand? Also, did Adolfo actually look in the box??
Lots of interesting theories here as to what happened to the Padre and could EZ be working undercover (UA I believe). I'm with Madelaine - I want to see the body before I believe the dear padre has actually departed. Don't give up home Fatima! I haven't...
Loved seeing Dim coming to his senses and trying to win Fina back.
If Sylvia were here, she would be saying "blech" to the recent events here. I sadly concur.
daisy, hope you have a wonderful time with your son.
Wonderful comments all.
Julia, you rock. Totally.
Diana
Agree with Urban, if he has the sense to open that safe, he won't know what to do with the original will when he finds it.
As for Victor and Nadia, isn't it a small miracle that Nadia's truth telling wasn't in their bugged love shack? I guess the writers thought they would throw us a bone.
Fatima
RIP
EZ has access to the county morgue and adequate dinero to bribe someone to remove a hand from a male cadaver. A clever last-minute plan.
"How Didn't You Know It's Not What I Always Wanted?"
Heh heh.
Loved watching Pedro retch when he opened the box... hated that it might have been the padre's hand which triggered it.
Pedro said, "The priest's ring would have been sufficient. You didn't have to bring me this disgusting hand."
So I think we can safely assume that the box contained a hand... not necessarily the padre's hand.
If Victor wasn't aware of Pedro's plan for him and Nadia, what the heck did he think that Pedro was up to? With Nadia and Victor as her parents, might as well reserve a seat on the short bus for little Victoria.
Carlos
I am imagining a confrontation in which he takes a dangerous shot in the dark by saying "So you're not man enough to make your beautiful wife pregnant?" and a major fight happens.
Put A Ring On It, Alfie!
I'll admit that he's adorable {Laurito}, but these people need to start a book club or something to have something more interesting to talk about.
I really do hope that Nadia and Victor make a clean getaway to an exotic place, cause a new locale for them is what I need to get interested in this story. It takes an industrial-strength beanie to buy that Nadia won't ask her very rich and powerful parents to help her out of this mess. The parents cut off Adolfo, but not Nadia.
I vote the hand is not the Padre's. I sure hope they give us a flashback soon of what EZ and Padre Anselmo did. So Adolfo just left the hand on the table/desk? Will he have the decency to at least give it a decent burial?
Fab reminds me too much of Adolfo. Yes, she feels something for Angie, but when the going gets rough she will do whatever to save her own lazy hide. She's taking the sudden, convenient departure of the licenciado and the Padre too well for me.
ITA Dim was cute standing vigil. In addition to Say Anything!, it reminded me of Juan in FELS standing in the rain with his horse all night outside Sofia's balcony. Who knew that Dim and Fina would bring the sorely needed wooing and romance?
Well said, Niecie because Alejandro and Montserrat sure are not bringing it. There are so many unaddressed problems in that romance starting with the fact that neither party seems to behave like an adult.
If Victor/Victoria is on the short bus, I guess Laurito will be taking that same bus.
Fatima
Maybe it was a hand with the middle finger extended.
Or maybe it was that pareja that Pedro has been lacking for so long.
That could explain the revulsion, that get that thing away from me reaction.
Niecie...I think that Addled carried THE BOX out of the room with him when he left. I think Pedro told him to take it away. We did not see the murder or the body, do I think padre is still alive. As for EZ being some kind of undercover agent...He killed that guy in cold blood so I doubt that he is a good guy. However, I hope that he can bring Pedro's reign of terror to an end. Sergio always looks and plays an oily lounge lizard. His greased up ducktail makes him look like anjames Dean wannabe. It's his signature Luke.
You wrote a wonderful and very detailed recap! Thank you so much. Like Fatima, I am shocked that Dimitrio really seems to be serious about anything, let alone his wife.
Folks, I heard "hand" and it is congruous with the ring comment. I feel quite sure it is a hand, but, as all have said before me, who was the owner of said hand?
I think the actor playing Adolfo is giving us some winning performances portraying a weak, lazy and wretched soul. I cannot imagine how the character could survive if he doesn't take the money and run. Head for Brazil, Adolfo, if you want to save your own skin.
Pedro will figure out his game sooner rather than later, probably when Maria makes an ill-timed appearance at La Escondida.
Thanks again, Julia, for the excellent recap.
Elna June
The conversation that Dimitrio had with Captain Robledo a few episodes earlier was important. Dimitrio admitted that he needed time to address his marital problems, but he made it clear that his commitment to the navy -- and his life as a responsible human being -- wasn't dependent on the success or failure of his marriage.
"Ale, Montse, and Rosario are together eating breakfast and talking about how well baby Lauro sleeps and how much he is loved--I'll admit that he's adorable, but these people need to start a book club or something to have something more interesting to talk about. "
Maybe so. But I remember a baby-besotted time in my life when Mr. Maven and I and any grandparent at hand could obsess happily and at great length about our little darling. Incredibly tedious to anyone outside the little circle? Of course. But the scene was well-observed and rang true to my experience, such as it is.
And yes, Julia, Pedro did definitely say the thing in the box was a disgusting hand. And I, like so many of you, cling to the hope that it was just the hand of some random cadaver. (A boar's heart would have been more in keeping with a fairytale. This is more like mafia stuff. Ugh.)
My dear Elna June, It looks as if Angélica has been waiting until she has had a chance to say her goodbyes to you. Oy.
And thanks, NovelaMaven for saying what I was thinking also. There is a time when your whole life and energy revolve around the needs of a baby. And while you are utterly boring to anyone outside that charmed circle, it is perfectly natural to natter on about the little creature and all that's happening.
And if you're a happy, well-adjusted adult, it's probably because somebody in your life was much more interested in you as a little one, than in a book club or local politics. Nurturing in the early months and years is a full-time job.
But opinions may vary, as Carlos would say.
And let's thank the writers for some good ol Josefina and Dimitrio time. That's the only interesting story on the line right now. I'm not bored with little Laurito but I could put Nadia and Vic on a plane this minute!
Thanks Ms. Julia for a witty, detailed recap in the midst of all your responsibilities during exam time. Much appreciated.
The important thing to remember is nobody ever dies alone. I have been with too many dying people and have seen that distant look in their eyes as they see and talk to loved ones whom we cannot perceive. There is a comfort in seeing their joy and their calm at a time like that.
I love Josefina's preoccupation with food and proper mealtimes. So true to life -- She's always concerned with Dimi's receiving proper food and rest. What's not to love about her?
I don't think the good Padre is dead. That would be too much! I expect him to turn up at some highly dramatic moment. I think Adolfo is playing a high-stakes game, hoping to come out on top.
The interior decor at Josefina's is so odd and out of date but loved the shot of the garden at night, lit up. SO pretty.
A bit alarmed by the bottle of sleeping pills conveniently placed in Finita's nightstand drawer. Chekhov's gun, anyone? Since we got a shot of her with her hair down in a better way, here's to hoping that the makeover comes soon. It drives me crazy to continue to see VJ looking so schlumpy when she's such a knockout.
Thanks as always for the great, funny, detailed recap!
I just saw the last few minutes of this epi, so I missed The Hand, but got to see Dim's declaration of love (on TWO stools stacked on each other- impressive), and the scene when Monse and Ale enter JL's and Angie's home. Just a small point of clarification, because it would be clear if you didn't see the episode-- the beloved daughter on the couch with her head in Amelia's lap was Virginia. Angie was in the bedroom, I believe, while everyone else was in the living room looking forlorn.
I hope Fina makes it clear to Dim that she does love him, but needs to work on loving herself before she can go back to him. That way, he won't go back to the dark side, but she can continue on her path to self love and confidence. Hopefully, she doesn't have to go to D.F. for that, because her presence would be missed by the audience.
Fatima: sometimes our families don’t see us, even though they love us, especially if we’re the “misfits”. Oh, what they miss out on!
I’m not too sure Fina is going to stay. She still looked pretty sad when Dim was kissing her. Vivi: here’s hoping that the Dim/Fina scene ends as you’ve written it.
I think the padre is still alive. My fear is that he had to sacrifice his own hand. Ewww! The other problem is he’s not likely to want to stay in hiding for long.
Diana: I believe Alpo looked inside the box before his “perdone me” in the last ep.
This TN could explain EZ killing that narco guy in cold blood as an undercover cop. Refugio killing the lieutenant was kind of blurring the line.
JudyB: when my father died, my mother had gone home to shower and change. My sister was at the hospital, but I don’t know if she was at his bedside (I was in CA, this happened in IN). My father saw a field with flowers. It will be 20 years in June and I still miss him. It’s like it happened a million years ago and at the same time just a few days ago.
Can’t wait for Fab’s road to redemption. I believe it’s coming.
Nanette
Nanette: "It’s like it happened a million years ago and at the same time just a few days ago". How perfect that is. Time fades the pain but the loss remains. I've missed my mother every day since she passed 18 years ago. Hugs.
Diana
Thanks so much for your recap. It was very detailed, plus witty and funny. I read it twice.
I am sticking with the Padre's not dead. EZ either took the Padre's hand or got it from somewhere. Being a crooked police chief, I think he has connections. Also, the Padre might be being held against his own will. If EZ could not convince the Padre, then maybe EZ is holding the Padre as a "prisoner".
I am glad that Fina talked with Dimi. I just hope that if she decides to leave town, Dimi doesn't fall. He has come a long way, and I don't want him to leave the Marina, or God forbid ask his mother for help. Bleh!
I am glad that Nadia told Victor she's pregnant. I hope they are able to leave the country safely, and get away from Peddy for a while.
It was kind of funny to see Pedo's reaction to the hand in the box. Maybe he has a weakness at the sight of blood. It could be why he has other people do his dirty work. He might hate the sight of blood and body parts because it brings back memories if his accident. Either way, I was glad that for once he was uncomfortable and distraught.
In my opinion, the jury's still out on Faby. I'm not sure she is redeemable. She didn't seem to have any emotion when Sandy told her that the Padre had been taken care of. And I think she pointed out the fact that Cevera had conveniently died after she told Sandy that the licenciado was investigating him. She has to know that people are being eliminated for her convenience. But in some weird way, I do think she cares for Angie. In her own way.
Back to work...hasta pronto!
Wouldn't you think that the judge should be a little suspicious that Pedro is taking such keen interest in the affairs of the Almonte family?
Carlos
There's a little bit of anger at my dad, too. He's missed out on so much. Of course, totally unreasonable. Miss him so much. He was a tremendous person, liked by everybody. His family adored him.
Now there's a scene I'd love to see... our padre on his knees cleaning a toilet with one hand preaching to our María who is busy mopping the floor as our Esmeralda sits back munching bonbons while sipping Champagne.
Carlos
Then there are the TeleNovela stages of dying. This is a very different process.
1. Looking a bit wan.
2. Becoming more saintly in attitude, less selfish.
3. The loose lips stage-the necessity to either confess faults to others, or to reveal secrets.
Anyone think of any others?
The most memorable death I can recall is Antonio's duel with wicked Diego (our JL) in Alborada. Evil Diegp ran him through with his sword from behind. He somersaulted backwards down an outdoor flight of cement steps. He took several episodes to die and gave many speeches.
JudyBThank you SO much for this. It is absolutely uncanny how so many of your pearls of wisdom come at exactly the right time for me. Thank you, dear amiga.
Nanette, amiga, yes, you hit the nail on the head. I am the family misfit. I'm so glad you are still commenting here, Nanette. You always bring a smile to my face.
Fatima
Fatima
And I too think the hand in the box is from a cadaver. Who would recognize a dead hand? Easy switch.
I find EZ the most puzzeling character--good, bad, evil, changing--hints of everything but we don't have access to his real thoughts.
