Que Pobres Tan Ricos #77: 4/23/14: Don't Stop Believing!
Hola Mis Amiguis! I am subbing for our very busy Julie. I will make this brief and you can let me know any additions/corrections as usual. I have a little earworm for Y'all for this epi, take a listen: Barracuda! This song is dedicated to AS.
I am skipping the old and beginning with the new. MA tells Frida he is exiting stage left, cause of Don Chuy. Frida wants to know what is gonna happen when their Mom's finds out? MA tells Frida if Don Chuy didn't kill him over this, AS won't either.
Lupe is feeding Emi and telling him MA is leaving. He isn't hungry and Lupe advises him to eat and be healthy and strong. Don Chuy comes in and won't talk to Lupe. He is talking around her to Emi. She rolls her eyes at him. Oh, and he's going to the gym. Lupe tells Emi she doesn't know why MA is leaving.
Frida and Leo are having a chat about Lupe and MA kissing. AS is pithed and needs her "elixir"! MA mocks her.
Guendy and Carm are eating and talking about sticking the guys with the bar tab. They also talk about the state of their being single. Carm doubts there will be anything with Don Chuy, but now Nepo and Guendy, yes!
AS finds out that Frida got money for managing Tizoc's band. MA drops the bomb on AS and Leo and tells them he is hopelessly in love with Lupe, shut the front door Irene, cause neither of them believe it. That is why MA is leaving. AS thinks the apocolypse has finally arrived, cause this just cannot be! Tell her it isn't true, but it sure 'nough is! AS faints and Leo thinks she has had the big one and Roberto is waiting for her up there, but nopis. MA and Frida clap and say the Oscar goes to AS! After this little performance he tells AS he really doesn't want to leave but must to honor Don Chuy's wishes. AS thinks MA will be the death of her. AS thinks that Lupe is a nobody, but MA corrects her and says that Lupe is all that and a bag of chips, well not that, but you know. AS tells MA to go now, and he is packed and ready and Frida cries.
Don Chuy is at the gym working off his pent up rage. Chilly asks him what is wrong and Chuy goes off on him. Chuy is pithed cause I think Chilly's gym ruined his own gym and they get into it, put masks on and fight it out in the ring. Chuy hurts Chilly's back and there are more words. Chilly figures out that Chuy is also jealous and pithed that Chilly took Carm out.
Lupe has given MA a list of rental rooms in the barrio complete with phone numbers. MA says he will talk to her Pops again. She kisses him and Perla and Tizoc walk in. Perla is shocked but Tizoc tells Perla to cool it. Lupe tells them about MA leaving and they can hear the voices and stampede of RPs coming down the stairs, so Perla and Tizoc tell Lupe they got her back. Ms Haughty, that would be AS, requests Lupe's presence for a chat, solo that is.
MA meets Saul at the market and tells him about his living circumstances for the love of Lupe. Saul invites MA once again to stay with him, but MA declines. I think he asks Saul if he knows of another lawyer? Saul also lets him know he has been searching for Adolfo and can't find him. Saul and MA hug goodbye and Trofeo sees and says he's okay with that!
AS and Lupe are in the RP penthouse. AS grills Lupe about her education and Lupe tells her she went to secretarial school, but couldn't go to college. What are Lupe's aspirations? Well Lupe wants her familia to be happy. What about MA? Well Lupe knows all about the fraud and the difficulties he is in at the moment. Well, AS has news for Lupe, nothing eva gonna happen with MA and Lupe y punto! Lupe is very nervous. We'll get back to them in a tic.
Now we have the Policias talking about Adolfo. They have been trying to find him to no avail. They have also been looking for El Bambi and I think they are staking out Saul's office. They have already made the connection with Adolfo and El Bambi and El Editorial. They are determined to find Adolfo.
Back to AS and Lupe and AS tells Lupe that when they go back to their "normal" lives that MA will forget all about Lupe. AS says that MA is a pincipe azul and Ahole also left Lupe so what does she think is going to happen, he's a man. Lupe informs AS that not all men are alike. AS continues to say that MA will never be with Lupe.
Frida is trying to text MA to let him know what is going on with AS and Lupe but Leo grabs her phone. She will not be letting MA know. Frida demands her phone back to no avail, Leo isn't giving it back. Protecting Mama you see.
AS continues in her haughty way that what is going on between Lupe and MA is not love but something else (she doesn't say lust, but that is what she is getting at) and AS says nothing will ever be serious between Lupe and MA, that Lupe is a nobody, and AS also yells at Lupe and asks if Lupe thinks she is a liar? Leo sticks his nose in where it doesn't belong and snidely tells Lupe that she will never be a part of his family and what does Lupe do? Cracks him across the face and tells the prince to shut it! YAY! Frida looks on and can't beleive it. Lupe stomps off and goes to her room and remembers every detail of this convo with AS and at first cries and then laughs.
Trofeo and MA are at work talking about women. MA asks Trofeo to help him out with Dona Q he wants that chofer's (driver's) job, he could use the extra lana.
Meanwhile El Bambi is asking his Tia if she has found a chofer yet? He also advises her not to hire just any old Tomas, Ricardo, or Horacio, but someone trustworthy. Dona Q is still looking.
Carm is experimenting with her "luke" when Chuy comes in. He wants a word, and can't beleive she is there. She really doesn't want to talk to him, but he convinces her he needs a manicure so she decides to do it, after hemming and hawing. She's doing the manicure but is hurting him and she flat out tells him she trembles when she is near him.
Meanwhile, Lupe calls MA and asks if he is busy. He wants to know what is wrong and he knows when she lies, she is upset about something. She asks him if he is sure, sure, sure he loves her? Yes, he is sure, sure, sure of it and she cries and then smiles. Trofeo throws something at MA.
Vilma, Ahole and Beto have brought a little present for Emi to Ahole, course he couldn't go and get this himself. It is a Monster Truck for the tyke and there are more toys I think. Mini and Isela come out and say oh, so you bought toys for your bastardo eh? He understands their frustration about this cause he is now sterile, but so is Mini, hardy, har, har! Oh, he says something about Emi coming to live there and for the two of them to be out.
Chuy and Carm continue to talk while Carm is ripping up his cuticle. He and she have worked together, lo these many years and he is so confused! He is realizing though, that the Fonda is not the same without her and that the kids and he really need her to come back. He tells her about the MA, Lupe situation, but you see she already knew and is happy to hear it! He is pithed and gets snitty with Carm but she tells him to sit! He does.
Mini is wallowing in her pity party with Isela, when Isela comes up with a bright idea. Find out who the bebe Mama is and then sue Ahole for infidelity! Brilliant!
Carm thinks this is great news about MA and Lupe and she is all for it. She now charges him 50 pesos for the manicure. He holds her hand now and begs her to come back to the Fonda. She'll think about it she says and tells him to go. After he goes she is one hot mess!
Perla and Tizoc are talking about AS when Don Chuy comes in and tells Perla to respect AS. Lupe comes in and Don Chuy wants to know why the sad face? Perla and Tizoc leave them alone and they have a chat. She tells Don Chuy about this talk with AS but not what was said. Lupe is upset that Don Chuy made MA leave. She wants him to respect her decision. Don Chuy still thinks that Ahole and MA are one and the same type of guy. Lupe tells Don Chuy it was fear that kept her from having any type of relationship after Ahole. Now she feels she's found a good guy and if she's wrong, she's wrong she will deal with it. AS comes down and wants a chat with Don Chuy solo if you please. They go off and Lupe is pithed. Here is another little earworm for y'all to enjoy have a listen: Faithfully!
Meanwhile at the market, Dona Q is talking to Trofeo, who I think is chatting up MA to her as someone trustworthy.
So now to the chat with AS and Don Chuy. AS tells him this relationship with Lupe and MA is impossible. Don Chuy agrees with her, but reminds her hoity toity self that they are one and the same now, cause she is no longer rico, but pobre! She makes her moue face at him.
Tomas and Lupe are having a chat downstairs about Emi and Ahole. She is really worried about Ahole claiming Emi as his, she doesn't want Ahole anywhere near her Emi. Tomas does tell Lupe that according to the law Ahole has every right to do this. Ahole could even demand that Emi live with him. Now Lupe is really worried, but Tomas says he will defend both Lupe and Emi and try to keep her custody arrangement where she will be the primary care giver.
AVANCES:
Frida tells MA about the talk between AS and Lupe.

I think it is important that when MA swore to Lupe that he was deeply in love with her, he also said that no matter what fit the 'parents' threw, they would make it through.
Also, i don't think Don CHuy told AS that they were the same now that she was poor, more like he asked (since she started the convo saying that Lupe and MA could never be because they are 'different' ranks) her exactly what she referred to as the 'different ranks'... and his face showed that he might be having a turnaround moment about AS since she is showing so much prejudice... (and just wait until he finds out she was the one that stole the money from them and went and spent it on a week at a five star hotel and throwing an engagement party!!)

Madelaine, thanks for your great recap this a.m. It was a very fun read!
Lupita is turning out to be one plucky chica. I am loving her feisty attitude in defense of her relationship with MA : from "demanding" respect for her decision from her father to asking Leonardo if one slap was enough or if he wanted another one.
For as much drinking as she does AS sure had more than enough energy and clarity of her arrogant thought to pursue Lupita downstairs to continue the confrontation.
It was great to see Minerva and Isela still holding their own at Alejo's. Alejo had another "bingo" moment and told them that soon his son would come to visit and that he was going to make him a play room. Isela asked him how he could have a "cochinito bastardito" at his "decent" home. Alejo told them that his home stopped being decent when she and Minerva moved in. I also laughed at their decision to be worse than the witches in fairy tales if Alejo's son appears.
Don Chuy's visit to talk to Carmelita to get her to come back and work for him just didn't do it for me and I hope it didn't do it for her either. It was too much of a pity party for him. She deserves nothing less than a ring on her finger or a new start.
It looks like don Chuy is finally becoming disillusioned with AS as he asked her: according to you, what are people "like us" like? I for one would be happy to see an end to his fawning all over her and calling her "doncella."
Looks like we are close to everrything hitting the fan!

When MA asked Saul when he was going to find another lawyer to continue helping MA, Saul replied that he had not found one 'good/experienced' enough to handle MA's case, and that he was still doing work 'under the table' for MA. MA should be thankful, not whiny.
Also, loved A-hole telling Mini and Isela off since he had a son (bastardo or not) and Mini was surely sterile for life... so there!

That slap for Leo was the highlight of the episode for me. I'm not sure which was more satisfying... the slap or the look it put on Leo's face. Excellent.
I'm looking forward to MA becoming Bambi's driver... not just because MA might learn helpful information, but it'll give us the opportunity to get to know Bambi better. What little we've seen of him has been such fun.

what happens when the money thing comes out
is what if Chuy uses that as another reason to undermine MA as a possible man for Lupe (saying again that its the blood relation now to two RPs A-hole and AS) that is preventing him from seeing MA on a more unbiased light.
As far as MA being Bambi's driver, I am also looking forward to that because I know what Luis and Jaime can do, but never seen them together in a novela before. So that should be good chemistry if they can bounce each other's humor moments.

It's interesting that Nepo tried it with the silly toy horse. Now Ahole is trying with a monster truck? And MA is Emi's friend.
I hope I get a chance to watch these episodes again so I can watch the wonderful facial expressions instead of reading the subtitles.

As much as I can't stand AS, it was very funny when she carefully checked that Leo was there to catch her before "fainting", then after her carrying on Frida sarcastically awarding her an Oscar for the dramatic performance.
I don't normally approve of violence, but I did enjoy Lupe slapping Leo. He so deserved that, and it shocked him. It's good for him to see that there are limits to the nasty talk he can get away with.
AS is lucky that Lupita loves MA! If not for that, I think Lupe would be perfectly happy to throw AS out to fend for herself and sleep on the street!

Thanks Mads! I've haven't seen the past week of episodes, but did get to see last night. Loved Lupita slapping the taste out of Leo's sassy mouth, and telling both Chuy and AS to butt out. You go, Lupita!
I have mixed feelings about the money theft reveal tonight. It will be great for Chuy to get further proof of AS's unworthiness (also looking forward to the continuation of their talk). But, it might drive a wedge between Lupe and MA when she realizes he kept this from her, knowing how much her family was struggling to earn the money to pay back. And that's even before learning about the grandfather clause about the house that MA is keeping from her!

Thank you again, Madelaine, for the fine recap. I hated listening to AS talk to Lupe - and hated that Lupe was so polite to her at the beginning. Thank god she showed her spunk in the second half of the confrontation.

(My future suegra took me into the back bedroom, sat me down and inquired if I truly loved her son! That gave me a feeling of fellowship with Lupita as AS grilled her.)

I hope Jennifer and Jonathan (the police detectives) will have a bigger role. I love both those actors. I really like their scenes even though they haven't been doing all that much.

Ana Sofía needs to be taken down a peg or a thousand. I'm glad Lupita stood her ground so well with her and I was also glad Don Chuy saw her for what she was for a moment there.
And I think we need to send Lupita to other novelas to slap some sense in certain characters.
I also love the interactions between Minerva, Isela and Alejo. Those actors are doing great in their parts and I find Mark Tacher so attractive here, even if he is evil and a jerk.
