We again see the big scene in the Serrano Living Room as Gerardo makes an announcement. Before he does so nasty little Cami snarks that he’s probably giving them the deadline to move out of their house. What he says is that, as director of the company, he names Camila as sub-director and his second in command. Emiliana jumps up and embraces him. Sour-faced Camila asks why he did it. Elena jumps up to snarl at him, pretending as usual to be on Camila and Emiliana’s side. He asks Mondriana what she thinks of his plan. Mondriana says it’s not her place. He goes on to say that the family may think of him as a fortune hunter, but he intends to do what his wife would have wanted, protect her children.
Diego tries to prevent Ricardo from going off half cocked to confront Elena because she told Camila the check was signed after Mónica’s death.
Carlos’ evil henchman makes a big speech at La Malquerida bar. He names the three girls: Valeria, Maite and Adriana, and offers a big reward to anyone who helps him find them. Martin, the gang peacemaker and owner of the bar, says he doesn’t know any girls by that name.
Back at Casa Serrano Elena goes after Gerardo shrieking like a fishwife. You’d think some of the people in the room might catch on she’s crazy as a loon, but no. After Gerardo leaves the room she tells Cami she can’t possibly take that offer. Cami goes off to her room to think.
At La Malquerida, Anselmo, El Chalado’s second in command, announces that they all need to protect these girls as they are now part of their territory.
Lorena asks Elena not to harm Camila and Emiliana. She snarls at her mother that she can’t help having evil in her genes.
Maite and Valeria are on their way out when Anselmo arrives. Valeria goes back inside, but Anselmo gets Maite to listen to him. He tells her about the matón who came looking for them. He asks her how she got into such a mess. Maite tells him that that guy who came to the bar and his boss kidnap girls from México and bring them to the US to work as prostitutes. She admits that she was one of those girls, but Anselmo doesn’t appear to be disgusted by this revelation. He says he and the guys in the gang will give that guy a major beatdown the next time he shows up.
Gabriel fills Diego in on what Elena did to him and to Ricardo. He tells him she is a woman with two faces, sweet and kind to her cousin, and horrible to the Cantú family. Don Rodrigo asks what’s up, but they don’t tell him. Rod gives Diego a guitar that he thought he’d learn to play, but never mastered.
Ricardo arrives at Casa Serrano and furiously confronts Elena about accusing him of being a thief to Camila. He says the only good thing is that now he knows her for who she is, and he’s going to tell Camila that she’s her worst enemy. He says he has proof. [This is an example of the famous syndrome: Telenovela Death Wish; wherein the good guys can’t wait to throw in the faces of the baddies their knowledge of crimes.]
During Ricardo’s confrontation with Elena, Cami appears, of course. He shows them the receipt from the bank, saying something about how careful the bank is with the Serrano/Larrea money and would not have cashed the check if there’d been a false signature. Cami pipes up that the check was not in the register with the others. Ricardo replies that Elena must have changed something.
Maite tells Valeria what Anselmo said and, predictably, she completely falls apart and begins packing her clothes.
Mondriana and Selma set a plan in motion. They “accidentally” run into each other, Mondi with Emi and Selma with Eileen. Eileen mentions she’s going to see some popular vampire movie and Emi totally jumps at the chance to go along. This is arranged so that Selma and Mondriana can meet with an agent of the person who owns the land on which the Larrea vineyard is located.
Ricardo tells Elena that it’s a crime to accuse someone falsely. Elena mildly says that if he had forged the check, then the money would have been well used. Ricardo insists on the bank doing an examination of the signature on the check.
Elena comes to the Larrea office with smoke coming out her ears to confront Gerardo about his naming Camila sub-director of the company. She says it’s like a stab in the back. Gerardo: “You mean like dealing with Figueroa behind my back or hiring gang guys to kill Ricardo?” She intuits that he somehow did it to impress the governess. He just laughs at that. He maintains he did it to keep Camila close and under control and to keep her mind off further legal action. He manages to work Elena around to accepting what he did.
Maite convinces Valeria that they’re safer in the barrio than elsewhere by themselves. Valeria asks if they should warn Mondriana, but Maite says they’d never look for her in that mansion.
Mondriana makes an emotional plea to the agent, saying that Mónica left her daughters with very little, and that the two of them (she and Selma) were old friends of Mónica and want to protect the girls. After they leave, the agent calls the twin brother of the deceased Julián, who apparently is the secret owner of the land. I can’t remember his name.
Lorena suggests to Camila that the three of them go to Europe and that Cami not accept Gerardo’s job offer. [She doubtless wants to get them far away from her murderous daughter.]
Mondriana talks Selma into helping her take the valuables from the safe in the secret room so as to have the funds to buy the land, if the owner sells. They sneak into the secret room at midnight. Mondriana opens up a box of rare coins, shows them to Selma, and says that her husband told her they were worth millions.
Meanwhile, Gerardo apparently has the middle of the night hots and tiptoes out of his room, heading for the Guest House.
We see Vicki having a nightmare about when Elena came back from her horseback ride, supposedly with Julián, and had blood on her shirt. The dream goes on to show Elena threatening Vicki with having her deported.
Elena can’t sleep either, obsessing about when Gerardo asked Mondriana what she thought about his having Camila as his second in command. She gets up to prowl the house, finds Gerardo’s bed empty, and goes to the office to look for him. Inside the secret room either Mondriana or Selma drop something that makes a loud clanging noise that doesn’t seem muffled at all by the bookcase false wall. Elena hears it and asks who’s there.
Part I
I am going to try to condense this epi. Here goes. We left Nina and Carmina with the ultimatum on Thursday, so Carmina thinks that Nina is loca. Just imagine, Nina tells her, if not only Tifon, but Ivana and Agatha were to see those pics she has. They would be so disgusted. So she has options on what she has to do Nina tells her. So Carm goes off, Ivana comes in and Nina tells Ivana that Carm broke all her figurines! Ivana will go tell that to Tifon.
Leandro, Roni and Suelen are painting Roni and Suelen's new place, in purple, it's a nifty color for the place. Suelen is wanting to be a model, rich and famous. She said something about sleeping on the beach with a tsunami coming I didn't get. Also there is a paint fight, where they get that paint all over them. Later, having lunch Leandro announces he is going to take that soccer position with the new team, cause he can see how happy Suelen and Roni are. Roni is sad cause he'll miss Leandro being around Divino.
Tessa is praying when Aduato comes. He has suspicions that their lovas are together, but can't quite figure out where they went. They figure out it was to Cabo Frio and off they go. Aduato can barely keep his eyes on road, for being upset, but they get to Cabo Frio in one piece. Leleco and Muricy are having a blast, massages, and then Leleco hears a car. Leleco sees it is Hercules car, figures out it's Aduato and Muricy goes to hide. Leleco gives Aduato and Tessa hell for coming, they search the place but don't find Muricy. She's done a runner out back. Aduato swears he smells Muricy's perfume, but she isn't there. After giving them hell again Leleco makes them go, and no Tessa can't stay with him. Muricy, in her hurry to go, tried to climb over a gate and fell and hurt her back. This is where Leleco finds her and has to help her up support her, she can barely walk. Later, he takes her to Silas' and Silas figures out what is up with them. They are hiding out there, so Muricy decides to go home, she can barely sit, and Darson comes so Leleco has to hide. Darson is going to tell Tessa how he feels about her y punto, he tells Silas and off he goes.
Jorgito is playing soccer when Nilo shows up. Tifon is there too and Nilo hides behind the gate. Jori goes and Nilo stops him and finally tells him the truth about the kidnap, how Carm and Max planned all of it. Max needed money. He does tell Jori that Nina did take the lana and used some of it for Max and Nilo. Jorgi goes and thinks about what Nina said about the kidnap, what Carm told him about it and what Zeze saw in the barrio that day.
Its mealtime at home and Carm is talking up Nina, on how great she is. Carm is even nice to Agatha. Nina thinks it'd be great if Carm went on a vacay. Ivana tells Tifon that Muricy and Leleco went to Cabo Frio and Aduato went there too.
Jori goes into the kitchen and talks to Zeze about the day of the kidnap. He listens to what she says. Later, Zeze takes Jori to the barrio where she saw what she saw.
Debora is at work when Iran comes. He'd like to take her to dinner, but she can't, she's got an exhibition to go to involving hydraulics and electricity. He says he'll go with her, no problem. They end up going and Deb tells him Jori would never have come with her. He says he has been purposely coming to look for her and kisses her, right there. That kiss is better than any Jori ever gave her! He swears she'll never have to go to these shows alone again. They leave holding hands.
Back in Divino Tessa and Aduato are talking and Aduato still swears Muricy was in Cabo Frio. Tessa think she is just obsessed. Darson sees them and wonders what is up with that. So Darson goes to confront him and Aduato accuses Darson of being gay. This happened before Darson talked to Silas. Later, Darson shows up at Tessa's confesses his love for her and wants her to marry him. She doesn't answer.
Part II
Tifon and Ivana are talking and she is sorting through mail and finds that addy for the Marina and Max. So she goes out there and can't believe he owns this yacht and has been living there. How'd he get it. Bidness that's how. He even takes her out on the yacht and she's beyond thrilled. They have champagne, he hugs her and rolls his eyes. Oh, and she thought he had taken up with a rich other woman, but he denies it.
Jori is in search of Sergio, I think Zeze pointed him in the right direction, so Jori meets up with him and they have a chat. Jori acts like he wants a kidnap of himself for Daddy's moola, Sergio calls him "Playboy" and this sounds like a similar kidnap that happened not long ago. It involved Tifon's wife Carm and her lova Max, they have been living in the same house. They wanted a fridge, and air conditioning till the ransom was paid, it was paid, but things went south cops searched the whole barrio and now Jori wants the same thing. Is it drugs? Who recommended Sergio anyhow? Jori just goes.
Ivana comes home and tells Carm and Tifon where she's been. Tifon can't believe Max has a yacht, Carm says must be bidness, Tifon isn't buying it. Tifon goes to his office.
Nina alone with Carm tells her she needs to go again. Jan overhears and is very worried. Later, Jan wants to know what is going on. Trust her, Nina tells her.
Carm is being extra nice to Agatha, as she fixes her hair for school, she wants Agatha to tell a white lie about there being a parent/teacher conference to her Papa, so Carm can go out. Tifon worries for her so. Agatha agrees, so Carm tells Tifon this, he wants to go, but she says she is taking Agatha, they go off, and later Carm goes to Max's yacht. Carm tries once more to get Max to switch sides, but he won't. Carm tells Max about the ultimatum and why isn't he considering that pact they made all those years ago? He's done with Carm, has gotten more from Nina than Carm eva gave him. Max even tells Carm is she's got some money invest it with him, they will get by. Carm not having it. No options left. No more money from Carm for him. She washes her hands of Max, they are so done. She also tells him that things with Nina will not turn out well.
Nina is baking when Tifon comes. She is also making a quiche. Agatha comes too without Carm and Tifon is worried. Carm comes home and Tifon outs her lie. She feels like a prisoner in her own home and cries and goes. Ivana tells him to go tell Carm he is sorry. He won't.
Jori is at his place remembering what Nina said about Max and Carm planning the kidnap. He calls Betania.
Nina goes to Tiradero, cause there is another wedding for two of the kids, just like there was with Nina and Jori when they were young. Nina and Betania talk about this and here comes Jori. He wants a chat with Nina. He tells her he now knows the truth of what really happened and wants forgiveness. She says she did take that ransom money. She originally took it as proof of what they had done. She says she gave Carm an ultimatum to leave the house and familia. Does Jori now trust and believe Nina? He knows the truth now and still wants that forgiveness and Nina says something about never forgetting, the wedding maybe? She has to go back to work. Jori doesn't want her to go and after she does he tells Mama L that he was wrong. Betania and Mama L tell Jori that he and Nina should be together.
Part III
Muricy is finally home from her misadventure and her back is killing her. She gives the familia some lie about falling in the cathedral I think. Anyhoo, Aduato helps her upstairs.
Jan and Zeze are cleaning and Jori comes asking for Carm. They tell him where she is. He goes up there and gives her the same ultimatum that Nina did. Leave the house. She tries to lie to him about the kidnap but he tells her he talked to Sergio and he knows it was her and Max. He gives her 24 hours to get out. Jori says she cheated on Tifon all those years. He goes, Ivana comes and tries to calm her down.
After Darson asked Tessa to marry him, he tells her that Silas waited ten years to marry Mona Lisa and he will do the same, she has tears in her eyes when he leaves.
Oh, there was a bit scene with Carlitos and Jimmy, seems all three women signed the contracts and Carlitos feels like and adolescent again.
Now it's Nina and Carm again and Carm blames Nina for Jori hating her and calls her a demon. Nina threatens to talk to Tifon if she doesn't go.
Tifon now goes to this Marina to check out Max and his yacht. Max tells him the same thing he told Ivana, it's a bidness transaction. Tifon isn't buying it, thinks he's got a rich woman on the side. Tifon says that he and Ivana have maintained him all these years and Max is insulted and doesn't want to be talked down to. Tifon doesn't care about the yacht or the other woman, his beef with Max is that he wants the familia to be happy and Ivana isn't. Tifon leaves and after he goes Max calls him a cuckhold.
Tifon goes home and Carm wants a word. She's crying and tells Tifon she's been thinking for a bit and she has made a decision. She is leaving. Oi, Oi, Oi!
Not only did Muricy fall on her back, she fell into a plant with thorns. Leleco described to Silas how they spent all night pulling them from her backside.
And why would Leleco hide out at Silas' house? He knows Darkson is going to show up eventually.
Thanks for the comprehensive and funny recap, Novelera.
I, too, thought that Camila overreacted a bit when Gerardo offered Camila the job at the vineyard but the penny still hasn't dropped on anyone in the family.
I totally don't understand why Mondriana needed Selma's help in the secret room. I thought that there might have been such a large amount of cash that she would need help carrying it but Mondriana could have put the coin collection in her pocket.
I guessed that the land on which the grapes are grown belonged to Jorge, brother of Monica's dead husband, Julian. It was a little weird that Mondriana remembered that the property belonged to someone else but not that it was her former brother in law. Her memory is very selective. I will make another prediction that this Jorge is Elena's father.
Part I
We left Carmina and Tifon having a chat yesterday. She'd like to go to the cabin in the woods, you know the one, she and Max have been using it for years. Anyoo, she needs some time to reflect on her life, she isn't separating from Tifon she assures him, just needs some space. It all has to do with the bad things that happened, her kidnapping, Jori learning that she really is his Mama, and Max and Ivana's separation. Oh, yeah and she says she isn't loca! Tifon consults with the Doc and he thinks it's okay as long as someone is with her. Tifon ends up telling Carm she can go. He is worried about Agatha who won't take it well. She's going anyway and will stay in touch with Agatha by phone.
Jori goes to see Debora to tell her how he found out the truth about the kidnap. Debora is kind of glad for him, says he needs to be with Nina, they have a true love and that Jori and she are done. Deb wants him to be happy. He apologizes to Deb too for his behavior and thanks her for everything. They are both very sad. She goes. Iran comes home and Jori tells him that he and Deb have split up. She's free now and it's up to Iran, but Iran feels she is still in love with Jori. Iran tells Jori he is very interested in Deb.
Carm is on the point of leaving. Carm tells the familia she is leaving and Agatha is upset, thinks it's her fault, and they assure her it isn't. Nina is smirking. Carm tells them she is going to the cabin, needs the solitude and no drama. It's only for awhile and Muricy and Carm cry.
Darson and Silas and Silas is about to go to the market, when Darson hears a radio and goes to investigate. He finds Leleco in the bathroom. He accuses Leleco of having had Muricy there, and that Leleco is unfaithful. Leleco is pithed and Darson goes. I love how he used the guitar as a weapon.
Jan, Nina and Zeze are in the kitchen when Tifon comes in. Zeze is elected to go with Carm. Zeze isn't happy.
Suelen, Roni and Leandro are still talking and Leandro is determined to go. He is signing that contract. He needs money and a place to stay. Roni mentions Aduato's old place is vacant and Suelen says it's a dump, so Roni offers a place for Leandro to stay, with them! Leandro so doesn't want to at first, cause it would only be for six months. So Leandro does decide to stay with them.
Carm is saying goodbye to the familia and Nina tells her, in her ear, she'll keep a watch on her and fake smiles as Tifon and Carm go off in the car. Nina says good riddance ho and neva come back.
Jori is at Tiradero with Mama L and he tells her that Carm has left the house. Mama L hopes all this bad venganza is now over. Mama L is so happy for Jori and that Carm is now gone. Nina comes cause it's the kids wedding day.
Tifon and Carm have made it to the cabin, and Carm rushes in there to hide evidence of Max having been there. Tifon asks if she is sure she'll be okay, she says she will be, listen to the silence. Zeze isn't liking it. Tifon wants to give her money for emergencies and she tells him it's only for a bit. He tells her she needs anything to call and that goes for Zeze too. After Tifon goes, Carm gets all over Zeze about cleaning up the place till it shines, and she goes to the bedroom. I just noticed Carm is all in pink!
Thanks, Novelera, for the recap. I wish Gerardo could control his interest in Mondriana in order to protect her from Elena. Asking for her opinion was ridiculous. Jean, I agree that it didn't take 2 people to gather the coins. Of course it ended with Elena taking books off the shelf in search of the noise. I hope she doesn't find them and instead Mondriana sees Elena and Gerardo making out. I also like your prediction regarding Elena's father. The fact that we/she are left in the dark about this may signal that it'll be revealed later on.
I've been wondering why the writers wrote Eileen into the script. Her youth and her relationship to Mondriana may put her at risk with Carlos and The Perv.
The Spanish Student
Part II
Leleco has come to the mansion, finds out Carm left and advises Tifon to make a move on Nina. Now is the time. Go for it he tells Tifon. Muricy and Ivana come home and Aduato was either picking his toenails, or something and says something and Leleco gets behind him and rubs his head. Too funny. Tifon is calling the bank to put limits on how much Carm can withdraw from joint account and her credit cards. Won't she be so happy!
Carm goes to see Max again to get him to change his mind. She tells him she has left the house. Help her out. He won't. She tells him Nina hates him as much as she hates Carm. He isn't buying it. She says she'll give him lana. Carm says she knows this yacht was bought with the ransom money from her kidnap and I think she wants him to sell it. He doesn't budge.
It's the kids' wedding and Jori escorts the bride and it's Pico that is marrying this girl. They start the wedding and Nina comes. Mama L and Jori very happy to see her. Jori asks if he can say a few words and he asks Nina to marry him in front of everyone. She doesn't know and everyone encourages her to say yes.
Max thinks Carm is lying about the ransom being used to buy the yacht. She tells Max again, she is the only one for him, Nina could tell on Max and don't wait until it's too late and she goes.
Everyone is enjoying themselves at the kids wedding. The girl throws the bouquet and Nina catches it. Nilo is getting drunk nearby and sees and hears everything and is upset no one invited him.
Zeze is at the cabin on the phone when Muricy comes looking for Carm, who isn't there. Finally Carm comes home, has Zeze make them some coffee and has a chat with Muricy. She tells Zeze to MHYB (Mind her own bidness) and she needs to be in uniform. Carm assures Muricy she's okay, had to get out of that house, it has bad vibes. Muricy warns Carm not to take too much alone time, cause Tifon could look elsewhere, Carm thinks its Mona Lisa but Muricy says nah, not her. Carm feels her and Tifon's love is strong.
Nina is in Mama L's house talking to Jori. He wants to know if she's made up her mind, what the answer to the question? She wants to make sure he feels confidence in her, that she isn't a bad person, yadda, yadda, and he assures her he is all on board. Nina finally, finally accepts and they smoochie a lot, and Mama L and the kids celebrate their engagement along with Betania and Baldo. Nilo has come all ten sheets to the wind and congrats them too. Is happy they are getting married. Nilo is fixated on Nina cause she helped him so much, but Jori assures him it was only money. He asks Mama L to let him stay and cries. Mama L tells him to go. Nilo swears he is a good guy. Nina promised to help him and now she has abandoned him. She's a bad person. He goes and Jori tells Nina to break it off with Nilo and Max. They have each other.
Deb is at home with Ver and tells her that she and Jori are done. Ver is glad. Iran comes with a huge bouquet of flowers for Deb. He lets her know that Jori told him they broke up. She wants him to forget that kiss they had it was stupid. Iran is not pleased. Deb says she doesn't really know him. Who is Iran? He doesn't understand and goes off very hurt.
Part III
Tessa is on the phone when Leleco comes home from that "vacay". He tells her a whole bunch of crap and then goes out. Tessa follows him. He meets Darson at Divino the bar and wants him to prove that Tessa is unfaithful. Darson is pithed. Tessa overhears it all and is very upset. Darson tells Leleco he never told Tessa about Leleco and Muricy and assures Leleco that Tessa is faithful Darson goes off in a snit.
Leandro is moving in and Roni is making dinner. Leandro says he's glad he is in Roni's house. Suelen corrects him and says it's her house and she is no longer a ho.
Carm has gone to the bank wanting some lana. She can only get 3 mil grande no more. She finds out about the limit on the joint account and she isn't happy.
Iran talks to his Mama Mona Lisa. Is he an idiot he asks her? Nopis, not so. He feels like one and she isn't selling the place, she has moved into that place in Zona Sur. He misses Divino and Silas' company.
Leleco goes to his and Tessa place and she confronts him about what she heard him tell Darson. He is just sick she says. He needed proof of her faithfulness cause she is beautiful and well, he's on in years. She tells him not to touch her and locks herself in the bedroom while Leleco begs forgiveness and says he's an idiot.
Nilo is eating on his own when Carm comes. She hits him up to help her and gives him 2 mil grande. She says that Nina used him, and Carm needs his help to get rid of her. She tells him to think about it and calls him Papa. She goes and Mama L sees her leave. Nilo goes to visit Carm at the cabin. She gives him good food and whiskey. Is he in? Course he is! He also tells her about Jori and Nina getting married. She is beside herself. She wants Nina away from Jori. This is the last straw! She needs his help. She'd give him more money but Tifon put a limit on the bank account. She'll prove a good daughter to him. He's in alright. But he did mention Santi and Carm says not on your life. No help from him.
Mama L is at Tiradero when Max comes. He wants to visit his Mama as in the real deal not the Tiradero Mama. She will give him a piece of orange cake and talk.
Carm comes home for a visit. She visits with Agatha, and the familia and tells Tifon she is doing well and came for her makeup. She whispers to Nina to go up to her room and wait, wants a chat. Carm goes up and Nina wants to know why in the hell she is back! Carm calls Nina a demon and she knows about Jori asking Nina to marry him. Neva gonna happen eva! Oi, Oi, Oi.
General U allows Antonio to have his ranch back, but isn't so forthcoming on releasing the "prisoners". Tony complains, and Alacran and Mireya are released. Tony gives Alacran a huge amount of money, says you've been my most loyal employee, you can now retire and do whatever you want. No way, says Alacran, I'm staying, and I'll find Camelia.
Mireya meets privately with Antonio, won't tell him anything until he finally admits that he's Camelia's father. But she has to keep it a secret.
Faced with the picture of her son, Allison marks out the routes for Arnulfo. Jacinto is about to kill her when Arnie says no, we'll take her with us.
Antonio's ranch is destroyed of all crops, but he'll rebuild. He gets the shipment of drugs ready to ship, by the army, to Arnulfo and then Octavio. The General decides to up his cut, angering Tony even more.
Tony and Arnie are still trying to find ways to outsmart and/or kill the other.
Camelia/Violeta has stayed at Octavio's place, Facundo/Sergio left, and is trying to blend in, maybe cross the border. Wilson tells Carson you better find Facundo or else. Camelia asks Alma for help in why Antonio wants to find her. Alma says I know you're Camelia. I don't know the answer to your other question, but if you're nice to me, maybe I can help you.
Tomasa is SURE that army guy is the rapist. She tells Benigno, who won't do anything. So she pulls a shotgun on him. Lu enters, beats the guy with a switch. The guy continues to make fun of her, goading her on. We later see him DEAD, with a pitchfork in his back! Yes!
Octavio has had it with Violeta, everything she says is suspicious, he finally pulls a gun, and orders him to tell the truth or die. Who are you? My name is Camelia, she says. They call me La Texana!
thanks so much Hombre!
(no captions and problems with telemundo site)
let's see, with Antonio's land destroyed, and Arulfo's probably as well, I think what they are working on is moving Octavio's Colombian cocaine, and so the General doesn't like 30%, 40% sounds so much better, Antonio tells him to talk to Octavio, but the General was talking about his cut out of Antonio's cut, whoa... (and didn't Nacha say she had already made the General a millionaire), and for now Antonio needs Alison's routes through Arulfo, but didn't he tell Alacran to get another truck.
I kept waiting for a shotgun blast to ring out in the night, and if I was there I would have handed Lu a crowbar.
looks like Alma has decided Antonio is her 'dad', and said he will be coming for her.
Line o' the day
Iran has gone to visit Debora and has brought a lovely bouquet of flowers.
Veronica: "What pretty flowers. Are they plastic?"
Finally, Mondriana is getting a clue about Elena's true character and now Camila has found out that Gerardo has an amante.
Did Mondriana tell Selma that the money from the coins (~$2 million) was not going to be enough to buy the land where the vineyards are? That makes sense - I think that an established vineyard would be worth tens of millions of dollars if not more.
Now that Camelia has admitted her identity to Octavio, what to do? He has her tied up, calls people to find out about her, finds out from Arnulfo that she's the one who messed up his face. But Alma tells him that Camelia is not bad. But she COULD be bad if you cross her! So in the end, Octavio and Dani tell Camelia she can work for then, but they'll be watching her like a hawk.
Arnulfo wants to screw over Antonio, so he plans to take the shipment of coke, keep it, and tell Octavio that Tony didn't deliver. But Tony thinks ahead, and puts straw in the truck instead of coke! While Arnie and Jacinto are being befuddled about this, Allison frees herself and drives away to freedom! Except that she's lost in the middle of the desert, and also maybe the truck has little gas. She's forced to walk for it, with just a canteen. I hope someone finds her. Arnie's not done, he figures Alacran has the real drugs, and calls the cops. A cop arrives, Alacran has to blow up the truck (and the drugs and the cop) to survive. Arnie tells Octavio that Tony lost the drugs, Tony tells him that Arnie called the cops. Octavio is mad at both, but wants Tony to pay back the lost money.
The General arrests Lu for the death of Lieutenant Ruiz, but Lu insists she didn't do it. Tony gets his men together, they come in with guns, and tell General U to release Lu. After some tense moments, he backs down, and when he calls Octavio, Octavio says lay off Antonio's wife, I'm your boss!
So the General arrests Tomasa, who ALSO insists she didn't kill Ruiz. The General doesn't care, he's being humiliated by not solving the murder of his soldier, so decides on a public hanging for Tomasa. At the last minute, Benigno arrives, with a judge, insisting that the governor knows all about this, and Tomasa must be tried by the law, she's a civilian. General U again has to back down, and Tomasa is in jail.
But then who DID kill Ruiz? We see a flashback to Ruiz grabbing the shotgun, pointing it at Lu and Tomasa. Just before he pulls the trigger, he's stabbed in the back with a pitchfork by.....Mireya!! The three of them swear eternal silence about this. But how can Tomasa be saved? Will she have to sacrifice herself? Stay tuned.
Great recap Hombre!
I admire how you so smoothly sew things together.
Octavio is going to curse the day he hired BOTH Antonio and Arulfo, and I don't think knowing Camelia is going to help either, and of course Alma is starting to freak him out, and I love watching the rich heiress Dani, living life as a hippy business woman, and how she does go well with Octavio.
as soon as Ruiz grabbed the gun I started looking around for Mireya, there is no ignoring that girl.
Part I
Oi, Oi, Oi, the ending for this one today was very unexpected. Shall we begin? Nina and Carm are talking about Nina marrying Jori and of course Carm isn't having it. No way! Nina reminds her she's got all that proof. Tifon comes and Nina goes. Carm tries to get her some Tifon, but since she's been gone, he's gotten into a routine, so x nay on the booty ay, and he goes. Carm isn't very happy.
Mama L is so happy that Max called her Mama, but he wants some truth about Nina. He wants to know if Nina used the moola from the kidnap. Well, that moola was stolen by Carm and Max it is really Tifon's dinero. He accuses Mama L of protecting Nina and in fact loves Nina more than him. Boo hoo! Nina has manipulated him and is really in love with Jori, right? Right???? Jori comes and doesn't like what Max is saying and Mama L makes him go before they start a fight. Mama L tells Jori that Max is his Papa and he's not such a bad guy. But Jori can't believe that Mama L has such a son, look who the Papa is Nilo. How many more secrets is Mama L keeping. They end up talking about the wedding.
Carm has got her stuff together and the family has gathered to say bye. Tifon is kind of lackluster with Carm and Ivana wonders if Tifon will make his move with Nina.
Tessa has packed her bag and is leaving Leleco who protests a lot. He loves her he says. She is walking with her bag and Silas and Dio hold him back from following her.
Olenka sees Tessa crying on the curb and talks to her. She tells Olenka all about Leleco's evil plan. Olenka takes her to the Salon and Mona Lisa offers her old place for Tessa to stay in. Olenka still lives there too.
Darson talks to Silas again about Tessa and he blames himself for Tessa wanting to leave, but Silas says that was Leleco's fault. Darson goes to look for Tessa. He finds her at the salon, declares his love for her again, and asks her to marry him in front of everyone. What does he get? A slap across the face, that's what. She doesn't believe that Darson loves her that was all Leleco's plan. Mona Lisa makes Darson leave and Olenka takes Tessa to the apt.
Begonia and Nina are talking and Begonia tells her the family sold the hacienda. Got a millon for it. Nina says she's happy to have saved Tifon, Agatha and Ivana from Carm, but is sure Carm isn't done yet. Max calls Nina and wants a meet. She can't she has to work, but he hangs up on her. She tells Begonia she is gonna need some of that money. She goes.
She meets Max on the yacht. She got him this yacht and money what else? Nina gives him more moola and now he talks about one thing Nina hasn't given him and that is sex. Carm and he had fantastic sex. Nina isn't into, even though he tries. He even throws her on the bed. He's a brute she says and she also says he's a ho. What about going to the Caribbean? And he now believes she hates him as much as Carm. Nina isn't putting up with his crap and she goes. He swears he's gonna trap her.
Nina goes to Jori place and Max follows, gets into the building and picks the lock. Nina is picking up the place and Max behind the door watching her when Jori comes out of the shower. They smooch, and he can tell Jori and Nina are very happy, Max calls Nina a ho under his breath and he's pithed! They talk about their wedding, now Carm is gone and Max too. She tells Jori her family sold the hacienda in Argentina. Jori thinks Max should be in la carcel. How could Nina put up with him all this time. Nina tells Jori that Max is immoral but also very stupid. Max hears all. Max goes and remembers his convos with Nina about both being Carm's victims, he is so engrossed he almost gets hit by a car. He remembers Nina calling him an animal and he calls himself an idiot.
Part II
Zeze wakes Carm, Max is there. Well Carm sends Zeze off and then Max begs forgiveness on bended knee, she was right about Nina he was wrong, he's seen the error of his ways, take him back. She sure does and they swear allegiance to each other, and get busy. In the afterglow Carm is all happy that Max is hers, all hers, and she is his. Max tries to tell her to leave Tifon, get a settlement and they can go far away. Carm is all intent on her venganza now, cause Nina is gonna lose everything a second time! Max reminds Carm that Nina has a lot of support, but Carm is gonna get rid of her y punto.
Tifon and Nina are in the kitchen and he is making an omelette and she tries it. She likes it. He is worried she is distant, she tells him about getting married. He is so not happy, loses his appetite and goes.
At Tiradero the kids are decorating for the wedding and Jori comes. Nina and Betania smile and Nilo spies on them.
Carm and Max talk financials. They could sell the yacht and get 500 mil for it. Nilo comes to the cabin and tells them the wedding is today at Tiradero. Carm is on her way, and Nilo holds Max back from going with her.
Nina is getting ready for the wedding with Betania and the girls of Tiradero. Jori doing the same too. Betania and Baldo are the padrina and padrino for the wedding. The dress is very beautiful and Jori looks quite handsome. Nina can't believe her dream is finally coming true.
Tifon comes looking for Carm who isn't there. Zeze hems and haws about where she is. She tells Tifon that Carm is difficult.
The wedding at Tiradero is about to start. Mama L walks Nina down the aisle to the altar, where Betania and Baldo are. The Evil One, that would be Carm, has arrived and spies on them. Mama L performs the ceremony and Carm watches all full of hate. The bride and groom are pronounced husband and wife, and once the bride and groom kiss, here comes Carm, yelling and she breaks a glass and heads right toward Nina and cuts her. There is lots of blood, Jori scoops Nina up and takes Carm's car and goes off with Nina, while Carm is screaming she is his Mama, Santi is there at the wedding too. She of course blames Santi, he tells her to leave. They have that same look and they really hate each other. Mama L throws Carm out.
Betania and Baldo agree that Carm is way over the edge. Nina escaped with her life, thank goodness. Nilo comes and laughs, insults both Mama L and Santi, grabs the food of course and goes.
Nina's arm was cut pretty badly but Jori took her to the ER. He says some honeymoon, and he's upset that Carm showed up. Nina says now she is Senora Patata, or Senora Jori Tifon, she is so very happy. Nina tells Jori thought that Carm will neva give up. He is just happy they will be togetha 4 eva! Oh, and he wants bebes right away. He's staying at the hospital with her.
Zeze brings Tifon coffee and Carm finally comes home as if nothing has happened by bicycle I think. Tifon questions that. She spins him some tale of it's great for her, yadda, yadda, right Zeze? She dismissed Zeze and Tifon wants her to come home. She isn't ready yet. Not until he realizes she isn't crazy and that he truly loves her. Instead she asks him to spend the night. He does and calls the familia and tells them so.
Part III
Jori is with Nina in the hospital and can't believe how bad Carm is. They were discussing what to tell Tifon and familia about how they are now married. Nina is afraid of them knowing the truth. Nina says it was an act of desperation on Carm's part, the cutting. Begonia comes to visit and is glad they are now married and sorry she missed it.
Jori or someone calls the familia and tells them that Nina was assaulted and in the hospital with a serious injury.
Ruh, Roh, poor Carlitos, or shame on Carlitos. His company has gone under, due to Jimmy pilfering/cooking the books and now Carlitos and familias are bankrupt!
Leleco has fallen asleep outside of Olenka's place on the lookout for Tessa. A dog licks his ear and the thinks it's Tessa, lol. Anyhoo, long story short he convinces her to come back to him. He gave up a forty year marriage for her cause he loves her. She gives in and moves back in with him, as all of Divino cheers except Olenka who is against it.
After spending the night, Tifon and Carm have breakfast and Ivana and Agatha come and tell Tifon about Nina being in the hospital. Of course, he wants to go visit and Carm is pithed, just an employee. Tifon says no, like familia and Ivana and Agatha go with him and Carm is pithed. Carm witches to Zeze that Nina is like a witch that cast a spell, they are all spellbound for her.
Jori and Nina have a visit and smoochies and he goes, and in comes Tifon with flowers and Ivana and Agatha give her chocolates. Jori comes back in like it's his first visit and Tifon wants a word with him. Ivana and Agatha stay with Nina.
Carm and Max are together again and tells him about Nina being in the hospital and is afraid Nina will spill all. Max tells Carm she is playing with fire. Carm has to think.
Get ready now, cause you'll have days to think about this ending, cause the next episode of AVENIDA BRASIL won't be until Monday. So Tifon and Jori are in the cafeteria and Tifon says Nina is very special, as a matter of fact he is teetotally in love with Nina! Shut the front door Irene, Jori is gobsmacked. Oi, Oi, Oi!!!!
Just a quickie. Turns out Elena is afraid of rats and flees the office, saving Selma and Mondriana from discovery.
Vicki doesn’t really say enuf in her dream for her roommate to get that it’s Elena she’s afraid of.
Maite pepper sprays Anselmo after a scary interlude in which we fear Carlos’ thug is following her.
I enjoyed Selma and Mondriana joking around about seeing Sangre en los Colmillos (Bloody Fangs), the vampire movie the young ones saw.
When Mondi returns to the Guest House after the midnight visit to the secret room Gerardo is waiting there seething with jealousy. She convinces him she just went for a walk.
Elena tells Marta about the tuition check being false. [God, she’s mean!] Marta finally blows after Elena leaves the room. Mondi is present for this. She says that first Gabriel and now Ricardo are being accused. She’s starting to believe Elena really did get Ricky fired from his law office job (Yay!). She says she really ought to resign, but Mondriana calms her down a bit.
We get a scene of Diego singing a love song and playing (maybe) guitar. They didn’t really show his hands on the strings.
Figueroa has shown up at Larrea Vineyards to introduce Carlos as Raul (last name??? Castillo???). Carlos has made no effort to look professional. He’s wearing a leather jacket and a thug smirk. He immediately leers at Elena. Figueroa reminds them that the contract they signed gives him not only stock ownership but control over the operations.
Carlos asks for an office and is shown into a very nice one. When Gerardo leaves, he calls Elena preciosa and leers some more.
As Jean said, Mondi finally seems to get it about Elena. She tells Selma she’s very harsh with the employees.
The coins are worth $2 million, but the buyer wants some sort of certificate of legal ownership [in the art world they call this proving provenance]. This is a problem because both legal owners are legally dead. Selma says they could be sold illegally for half that.
Camila accepts the job at Larrea.
Carlos’ thug who is searching for the girls sees Valeria on the street with Doña Lupe.
Gerardo is alone in his office when Elena calls. She insists that he say what she wants to hear out loud. That he loves her. That Mónica meant nothing to him. That he’ll be hers forever (I think). Camila overhears this outside his office! Sadly, I don't think he says the name of the person he's talking with, so Elena won't be revealed so soon.
some of the little stuff from a second watching,
funny how Octavio tells Camelia, haven't you learned yet that lies will get you no where, then he proceeds to lie away to Dani who keeps reminding him of the wedding promise he made, to not lie to her.
it seems Alison, in her panic, headed straight out into the desert, instead of going back the way they came.
when Antonio asked Lu if she killed Ruiz, she said something like she was responsible for guiding Xiang's soul, and to have killed him would have condemned Xiang's soul forever.
so after the General was foiled again he decided to have a curfew, anyone out after 6 would be taken in or shot.
Alma, catching Octavio at his shrine, (and Alma brushing her doll's hair is something I'll probably see someday in a nightmare), asks what's up, Octavio explains, I speak to the dead here, and when I have questions, they give me answers.
and there was that strange scene when Alacran was stopped for a bathroom break and a beer, and this Mercedes pulls up and a guy (who looked something like the american dude from earlier), walks towards him, but Alacran takes off.
I'll give a shot at the line o' the day:
Tifón finds a pair of man's shorts at the cabaña where Carmina is living. He asks Zeze whose they are. She hesitates and then says that they are her boyfriend's. Tifón smiles and says,
¿Prefieres a los flaquitos, eh Zeze?
You like thin guys, eh ZeZe?
Elena bought Gerardo a ticket to Seattle, for a “business” trip. She gets all pushy, as she does, assuming he’ll love the trip. His face says he won’t.
On the street with Lupe and Vale: They’re walking and talking, when the bad guy looking for the girls shows up behind them. Evil music plays.
Marta and family: Marta tells Ricardo and Rodrigo that Elena accused HER of falsifying the check. Ricardo thinks it’s one thing to mess with him and Gabe, but it’s another to screw with Marta. Everyone is offended.
Office: Camila rehashes stuff in her head that’s been going on the last week. (She needs a drink. Good thing she works in a winery!) Mariana, the secretary, comes in with papers and tells her they are there to help her out, whatever she needs. (She’ll need a corkscrew). Instead she calls the boyfriend-Ricardo-that I thought she broke up with.
Rodrigos- Ric’s phone rings but he doesn’t answer, and Marta is too angry to talk to Camila.
Selma and Mondriana go over the check situation. Eileen and Emi show up with palomitas to snack on. (Popcorn?) They take off again to wherever, which lets
Selma and Monde meet with the guy representing the owner of the land they want to buy.
Meanwhile, back in the barrio, Gabriel has set up a business drawing characatures, which I can’t spell so cartoons, let’s say. Jennifer tries to drum up business by doing a cute little song and dance to bring in customers. (This business would do better at the beach or Olvera Street, or somewhere there are tourists, because who gets this done in their own neighborhood?) She later tries to teach him the song, but he’s not the singing type. But he did manage to get another customer. Good for him.
Martin talks to Diego about staying in LA, but he’s set on going back to Mexico. He wants to be further away from Adriana.
Back to the barrio street and Lupe and Vale: They’re talking about Diego and Adrina when the bad guy calls out Valeria’s name. She remembers his voice from the kidnapping and panics. They keep walking though and the gang guys stop him. He pulls a gun on them but another gang guy has his own gun pointed at Bad Guy’s head and another gang member hits him and tells him to get out their neighborhood. (I know gangs are bad, but I’m really liking these guys right now. I’m just sorry I can’t remember any of their names).
Office: Gerardo talks to his brother about what’s up with the judge. They agree that Ernesto should keep investigating the judge and keeping an eye on Camila. Ernesto then goes in to talk to Camila. He tells her that Elena offered him a position in the company, but he’s “not sure if he should take it”, etc. She looks like she’s falling for his charms, and I want to slap that tranquiqui off his smug face. Camila is a little down, and doesn’t want to talk to Ernesto about the problems. He asks her out, but she’ll be working on Saturday. She finally agrees to lunch the next day.
Marta and Rod: They’re talking about all the problems that Marta’s family has had since Monica died. Rod speculates that Elena was expecting more from the inheritance than she got, and she’s taking it out on them.
Elena goes back to the house to pack for her “business” trip. Lorena sees and asks about it. She admits that she’s going to spend the weekend with Gerardo. Lorena tells Elena about Marta leaving and Elena doesn’t care. She tells Lorena to look on the bright side: Less competition for the love of the “escuincla” (brat). (And Lorena still does nothing).
Selma and Mondriana: They meet with the rep for the lands they want to buy, but he tells them the land can’t be sold at this time. Monica sobs a little, and the rep tries to leave, saying he didn’t realize she was so interested in the welfare of the girls. But Mondriana stops him and asks him to take a letter to the owner. She’ll do whatever it takes to get the land for the girls.
Lupe and Val: Lupe gets the back story of Vale and the forced prostitution of all three of them. She’s sympathetic, as you knew she would be.
Office: Elena checks in on Ernesto. He tells him about the munch date, and Elena says lunches are for business, not to get Camila into bed. Ernie says it’d be easier to be president than to get with Camila. Luckily, Elena knows just the place for Ernesto to take Camila. Gerardo, meanwhile, is reserving the best suite that some place has. (Wanna bet that it’s not in Seattle?)
Marta and Rod: They talk about the check that Ricardo had to use for the hospital. She asks why he had to change insurance plans, and she says he couldn’t afford it and how was he supposed to know this would happen? Then I think we have a short psa on why insurance is important, but it's not nearly as obnoxious as some of the product placement, so they get a pass.
Mystery Man’s office: He’s listening to Monica’s cd when he gets a copy of the letter that Mondriana wrote. She tells him about wanting to buy the land for Camila and Emiliana. He recognizes the names (the twin brother, right?) He calls the rep, David, and tells him the handwriting is identical to …someone he used to know. David tells him about Selma, whose name Mystery Man recognizes. Then he calls the guy Tomas. (So is this David or Tomas? Or is he a twin too?)
Office: The Bad Guy who was following Vale goes to the office to see Carlos. He slimes all over Mariana’s desk. She’s not impressed, but he’s let in to the office. He tells Carlos that he thinks he found one of the girls they’re looking for.
Camila gets a letter from Marta on her pillow. She goes down to talk to Vicky to confirm that Marta left, and tells Vicki and Susanna to not tell Emi about this. She talks to Lorena and tells her she’s sure that Gerardo has a lover. Mondriana has just come in with Emi, and overhears this part. Cami is ticked off, and Mondriana looks confused. (Because Cami knows about this or because she doesn’t remember talking to Gerardo about lovey-dovey things that Cami could have overheard? Whatever it is, this is ripe for all kinds of misunderstandings).
Kelly
Jean, I chuckled at that too. Zezé can be pretty funny. I also laughed at this one:
Carmina (about Nina's power over her): "It's not witchcraft. It's voodoo!"
Can you just picture Nina sticking pins into a little Carmina doll?
**
Are Nina and Jorgito legally married? I guess Lucinda can perform marriage ceremonies?
Wow, no AB until Monday. I'll go into withdrawl.
Thanks so much, Mads! I didn't see yesterday's epi, so I too have the same question as Sue. How does the Tiradero ceremony make Jorgito and Nina married??? Is Lucinda a justice of the peace? Did she get one of those online licenses?
Deb:
Thanks so much for your kind comment last week.
Sue 455:
I really like how you always post the phrase of the day. They are always a hoot, thanks! I laughed at the voodoo one, it was too funny.
Jean:
I'm laughing at yours too with the men's shorts. I thought Tifon had asked Zeze if a guy had been there and who was it but wasn't sure, Zeze is a hoot.
Vivi:
I too wondered if that wedding ceremony was legal, but it seems that it is. I too wonder if Mama L is a justice of the peace. We really know nothing about what she did before she came to Tiradero, except that she was married to Nilo and had a son, Max, and had an affair with Santi.
Now to my own thoughts. I'd really like to know what Mama L did before Tiradero and Nilo for that matter too. I wonder why Nilo chose to take Max to Tiradero and it seems Mama L gave up a lot to be near Max. Has anyone noticed that Mama L always dresses nicely and puts on lipstick when she goes to visit Santi either at his shop or at his home?
Carm has been wearing pink here lately. I notice Max has been wearing white.
Carlitos is now bankrupt, who would have thought? I can't wait to see how he handles this with the wants and needs of his familias. Ver will go ballistic, Noemia will probably cry and
Alexia will probably find a new way to open a bidness. Alexia is smarter than the other two. Just guesses. Unless, this is just a guess, the wives are in cahoots with Jimmy. Hmmmmmmmm..........
Deb, thanks again for your excellent additions and clarifications.
Tomasa gets a visit from General U, who says be happy you're in jail, where I can't do to you what I really want to!
Mireya is feeling really down. Her father's in jail, sister dead and Tomasa's in jail for something Mireya did. Lu says calm down, the storm will pass. But Mireya wants to turn herself in. Happily, Alacran grabs her guitar, starts singing an off key tune, and brings a smile to her face.
Benigno gathers the townspeople, tells them that innocent girls had been murdered, and it turned out a soldier was guilty, but he's dead now. And law and order is back. Privately, though, he finds out another girl was murdered! Huh? Could it be (my guess) that General U himself is also doing this??? This would fit, since Antonio and Benigno decide the only way to get rid of the General is to catch him in a scandal, air his dirty laundry. Let's hope.
Carson tricks Facundo into meeting way out in the desert, where Wilson says Carson has to take care of this "corrupt cop". With Facundo in shock, Carson takes him to a clearing, has him kneel down, and fires! We see the body flop to the ground, and Carson goes back to the car, telling Wilson it's done. Wilson says keep the phone numbers, toss the rest (wallet, pictures, keys), which they do. So Facundo may be dead, but I'm hoping he's just playing dead. We'll see.
Speaking of deserts, Allison has just about run out of steam in hers, sinks down to the ground as the sun sets.
Arnulfo has Jacinto shake down a bar owner for protection money. At first the bar owner acts tough, having his friend hit Jacinto over the head. But Arnie comes back with a baseball bat and makes them pay.
Alma has a dream where people are running, and she seems to see Camelia (I think) dead in Octavio's arms. She also overhears Octavio praying, asking forgiveness from his sister, and concludes that he killed her (and Alma's father). Alma tells this to Camelia.
Camelia starts working for Octavio and Dani, and feels sorry for the oppressed workers (they laugh, doubt anyone can improve conditions).
And we have a new character, named Tony (so now I can't call Antonio Tony anymore). He's a rich guy who owns lands near Dani's. They used to be an item, but she dumped him. But now, the government has declared on tequila from the area of Tequila can be called that, and Dani's would have to be called mezcal. This is bad. Tony says sleep with me, and we'll join up, you can use my lands too (in Tequila). She's offended. Even more so when Octavio seems to give her permission to do it, it's just business!
thanks so much Kelly!
(and Adriana, novelera, and Jean as well for your recaps)
I hadn't thought of Jorge recognizing Monica's handwriting, that's a twist, and is he a good guy or a bad guy, he did seem to have strong feelings for Monica, but why did he go so far away, that he is only a memory to the family.
I'm waiting for the scene where Carlos and Diego discover each other, it's gotta happen sometime.
did I see on Camila's door 'subdirector of marketing', (will we ever get to see a winery) and wasn't that Ernesto's job, selling off the private stock to line his and Geraldo's pockets?
the bad guy is El Pachuco, I didn't catch his real name, but neither did Carlos, trying to guess the only visitor he will ever have at his office.
.......................................
Pachuco-
-a chicano or Mexican guy back in the 1930 to 1950 that dressed in zoot suits. The pachuco was an important part of the young chicano culture in the 1950's.]
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=pachuco
-refers to a particular old school subculture of Hispanic and Latino Americans associated with zoot suits, street gangs, nightlife, and flamboyant public behavior in an attempt to look and feel like a mafia bosses of the Chicago gangster era. The idea of the pachuco – a zoot-suited, well-dressed, street-connected flamboyant playboy of Hispanic/Latino heritage – originated in El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, and moved westward, following the line of migration of Mexican railroad workers ("traqueros") into Los Angeles, where it developed further.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pachuco
thanks so much Hombre!
I had spanish captions last night but most of this went right over my head anyway.
I was wondering if maybe Alison drove out into the desert on purpose so Arulfo and Jacinto wouldn't follow her, (worked pretty well) and she must know that area pretty well to have plotted her routes, but were will she go now?
what threw me about the killer was the corporal saying it was his sergeant (of course he would never say it was the General), and Ruiz was a lieutenant (who didn't kill Lu, and no cigarette burns), and didn't they find some stripes, hmm, they look like one of the three stripes that the Gereral wears on his sleeve.
Thanks so much for the recap, Kelly. Love your snarky style.
And, Deb, thanks for the info on El Pachuco. There was a movie I liked a lot in which Edward James Olmos played a mystical character called El Pachuco (movie was Zoot Suit). The movie was from a play by Luis Valdez that dealt with a famous case in 1940's LA in which some Mexican American youths were falsely accused of murder. They dressed in the "pachuco" style.
Yes, palomitos are popcorn.
The guy who confronted El Pachuco in the first place is Anselmo, and the guy who put the gun to the back of his neck is El Chalado, the leader of this neighborhood gang.
Actually, Gerardo asked Ernesto to check up on and follow Raúl Chamaco (Carlos). I can't remember if he's still investigating Judge Pervo or not.
The deceased Julián Larrea's twin brother is named Jorge. He lives in Australia. They said at some point that no one in the family has known his whereabouts for many, many years. I'm getting the vibe that he was also in love with Mónica Serrano.
What Gerardo and Ernesto talked about was "adulterated" wine. I think their money making scheme is somehow selling not-very-good wine under the Larrea label and making big profits. Not sure where they get the inferior grapes or already fermented inferior grape juice, but this is an awful thing to do. The Larrea name is apparently quite prestigious, and they are risking damaging that. But I think I sort of remember the adulterated wines were being sold out of the US.
Thanks Hombre and Deb for keeping up with this novela. I have not been able to pay full attention so your updates are invaluable. Do you think Ala ran is sweet on Mireya? BTW Deb just finished watching the final of La Pro mesa it was gripping and dark the whole way through. Very well acted and story was tight.
Bmc
second time around, wow, this show is way too subtle,
at the end of the story Benigno has confirmed with the help of the medical examiner that he has brought to town, that the prostitute's death occurred after lt. Ruiz was dead, he is also handed some soldiers stripes that the girl was found to be holding.
in the middle of the story, Benigno, standing with the General, Governor, and Antonio, announces publicly that all of the problems were caused by Ruiz, who is now dead.
at the beginning of the show we see the General jumping on Benigno wanting the head of the murderer, he is also missing one of the stripes on his left arm.
Alma's dreams are always strange but I was thinking that was Octavio's sister dying in his arms. Alma later hears him at his dead altar asking his sister for forgiveness, later as Octavio grabs Alma in the kitchen she starts screaming, why are you trying to kill me, later Alma goes to Camelia and tells her, we are all in danger here, why?, because Octavio is a killer, he killed my parents, and how do you know this Camelia asks, it was in a dream, oh.
Antonio has put finding Camelia on hold until he can get rid of the soldiers, later talking with the Governor he has come to the conclusion that the only way to get the soldiers out of town is to find the skeletons in the General's closet.
Wilson tells Carson that Facundo isn't hiding so hard and has spoken with the press, and is concerned about their involvement getting out, Facundo meets with Carson on the promise he has information on Camelia, Carson tells Facundo that he paid off one of Octavio's men and they go to meet him, but it's Wilson,
Wilson- do you know what Mexico's biggest problem is?
Facundo- we are too close to the U.S ??
Wilson- anarchy, and when there is anarchy we have to clean up the mess, and you are the mess.
Lu comes to the sad Mireya, and says,
"we could never learn to be brave and patient,
if there were only joy in the world"
-Helen Keller
later Mireya tells Lu, she is going to turn herself in, if I don't get this guilty weight off me, I will never be able to sing again.
later she wonders if she could ever be brave,
Alacran tells her she was born brave and she will die brave.
Tony- you are like a young mare that needs to be broken,
Dani- you are like a pig that rolls around in the mud,
Tony- we get along fine, as animals.
Dani tells Camelia the story, the two families decided they should wed, Dani/Tony, a week before the wedding she caught him cheating with her best friend, and when she confronted him, he punched her (she still has the scar) and when she told her father he said, he will be your husband, he can do what he wants, that's when she left.
Arulfo isn't liking how Jacinto failed him, wishes Moi was around, right now we have to control Tijuana and report to Franco, but as soon as we gather our strength, I'll send Franco and Antonio to see their mothers,
in hell.
Novelera- thanks for filling in the gaps. I totally missed the part about selling the cheap wine. I thought Gerardo might be up for some kind of redemption, but if he's selling watered down wine, then forget it! To prison with him! Monica in Elena's body can have Jorge. He's a good looking man. Have we seen him before?
Kelly
thanks novelera for explaining the Geraldo/Ernesto side wine business, [Kelly- that was from way, way earlier when Geraldo wanted Ernesto to close a deal so he could have some get-out-of-town-quick money, thinking Elena might turn on him]
I guess there is also a pelucha.

if I got this right, Telemundo has made a "secret chapter" broken into 7 parts which will be shown 2/week at their website, taking us to the middle of may, hmm, and if Camelia is 60 chapters it should end around may 21.
*sigh* I'm missing my favorite show. I have some downtime before I start my shopping and errands. My main question for AB now is:
When the heck is Tifón going to get a clue?
Maybe it's because I'm used to American athletes and their handlers and publicity agents, but I find Tifón to be rather naive. Tell me he couldn't have believed that bullsh!t story Carmina gave him about the bicycle. Especially after Zezé got all nervous about whose shorts Tifón found in the cabana. If you've watched this from the beginning then you saw Tifón get trapped in Carmina's web because he felt guilty about accidentally killing her husband Genesio (she was actually thrilled and did a happy dance after the police officer left). It was kind of painful to watch him be manipulated because we know he's a good person, just very, very, naive for a professional athlete. I would think the more worldly Leleco would have warned him about the Carminas of the world. Ivana needs to investigate why Carmina had so much money in a checking account that was hers alone.

Today, a sexta-feira da Paixão ("Friday of the Passion" or Good Friday), O Jornal do Brasil reports that the Avenida Brasil will be closed from 10 PM Sunday night to 10 AM Wednesday morning. This will create havoc for those returning to work because it is one of the main highways in Rio. The head of transportation for the city says it's necessary so that they can work on some adjoining roads and highways. Find an alternate route!
**
I'm going to try Bacalao Espiritual today because it's Good Friday and I can't have meat. However, the recipe I downloaded from Easy Portuguese Recipes is very poorly written (ingredients listed but not mentioned in the directions). Good thing I can figure out what to do but a novice cook would be clueless with this recipe. Like Carmina, hee hee!
Happy Easter/Passover to all my Caray friends.
"Reina de Corazones"
is set to debut 28april14 in Mexico on Gala TV,
and then 8july14 in the U.S.,
what?
I'm ready for some multidimensional Catherine Siachoque,
and I see Wanda D'Isidoro (Barbara Cano from Santa Diabla) name on the cast list.

ut oh, in my earlier post,
instead of pelucha, I meant Pachuca,
(from the wiki site for Pachuco)
Facundo is NOT dead! As I had hoped, Carson faked it, shot to the side, and tossed Facundo the keys to the handcuffs. The two later meet, Facundo punches him, Carson says you gotta get lost, they'll kill you. But Facundo says still wants to "save" Camelia. And he has info on Wilson. I'm not sure of this, but I think Wilson killed someone a few years back, and now he's involved in something dirty (like drugs). Carson later tracks Wilson into a little pueblo. What's he doing there?
Lu has been bringing food to Tomasa in jail. Antonio isn't happy about this. Tomasa gets let out temporarily, visits Benigno, says we have to stop this, don't we have any clues? Benigno pulls out the stripes they found on the last victim. Tomasa thinks back, General U had some stripes missing from his uniform sleeve!!!!! I think she tells Benigno, but it won't be easy to confront the General.
Tony tells Dani that if she wants his lands, either Dani or Camelia has to sleep with him! Dani is going to try to get Camelia to do it (fat chance). Camelia visits the workers, led by Gallo, a tough older guy with a sickle. He says the workers want a road and a school. But Dani's workers hate Tony's workers. Leave it to me, says Camelia. The two groups of workers approach, sickles raised, when Camelia steps in the middle. They'll be no fightin' today! She says they need to UNITE, and they all agree. Camelia goes back to Tony, says the workers from both plantations won't help with the tequila unless they get a road and a school Octavio grudgingly agrees, signs a paper. Cami's a hero!
Dani's so happy, she DOES sleep with Tony! But he tells her he's not REALLY going to build a school, and the road? Well, someday. Hmmmm.
Dani returns to Octavio, who says did you sleep with him? She nervously says he, but he's FINE with it, it's only business!
Alma takes some little thing like a pea out of Octavio's candle or box, and puts it in her little matchbox. Don't know what that was. Camelia is being very nice to her, so hopefully that will help. Alma tells Camelia that Antonio is a good man.
Alacran continues to cheer up Mireya. She was going to leave, but he says not yet, with your Dad in jail.
Arnulfo and Jacinto continue to squeeze locals, trying to build up enough money to restart their business. They manhandle a former pollero associate of Allison, I think his name is Ismael. After some beating, he agrees to work with them.
And Allison? She's finally able to stagger out of the desert, almost dead, and hitch a ride back to town.
But what about Facundo? Camelia meets with Tony, I think she heard he won't build that school, when one of the guards drag in someone they just found scrounging around. Here's Facundo!
Camila tells Lorena that she overheard Gerardo talking on the phone to his lover. Lorena asks with feigned casualness if Camila found out who the lover was and is relieved when Camila tells her that she didn't hear that. Lorena points out that Gerardo is still a young guy and would find someone else but Camila won't accept that would happen only three months from her mother's death. This only confirms her belief that Gerardo married Mónica for her money. Mondriana overhears this conversation. She assumes that Camila is talking about her and is all flustered.
Pachuco asks Carlos what he could have done when the gang guys threatened him with guns. Carlos tells him that he will have to handle it since Pachuco is worthless. And based what he did in prison, we can guess that he will ally himself to the other gang.
Ricardo is contemptuous of Gabriel's caricature business until he admits that at least Gabriel is earning some money while he hasn't found a job at all. Ricardo tells Gabriel the good news that their mother has left the Serrano house.
Mondriana calls Selma for advice on what she overheard. Selma is not shocked that a young, handsome guy like Gerardo has found a lover. Camila doesn't know that his lover is Mondriana and how delicious it is that Gerardo has fallen for the same woman twice. She advises Mondriana to concentrate on getting the vineyard land for her daughters.
Valeria asks Lupe not to tell Diego about the appearance of Pachuco in the 'hood. In his room, Diego strips to his skivvies and flashes back to pillow talk with Adriana.
Camila comes to see Marta at Rodrigo's house and begs her to return to her job. Camila tells her that she is sure that neither she nor Ricardo falsified the check. Marta replies that Elena does suspect them and that it is difficult to live in the house under those circumstances. Marta refuses Camila's request.
Carlos comes into the bar where Maite is working and Diego is having dinner. Diego and Maite try and hide from him but the bar owner says Maite's name and Carlos knows that he is in the right place. The gang guys protect Diego and Maite by producing another young woman as Maite and getting Diego and the real Maite out of the bar.
Gerardo takes Mondriana off somewhere in his car. She makes him stop the car and tells him that Camila has discovered that he has a lover when she overheard his phone conversation. Then she tells him that Camila's report of the conversation included things that he had never told her such as that the person he was talking to was more important to him than his dead wife. Mondriana asks to whom did he say those things?
Thinking quickly, Gerardo replies that Camila must have heard the things he said after she hung up. He tells her that she is the love of his life. Then he takes her to a beach hotel where the bed had rose petals in the shape of a heart on it and they make passionate love, walk on the beach etc.
The next Emiliana finds out that Marta has quit. She is very upset. In desperation, Camila calls Elena about trying to get Marta back. All unknowing, Camila lets it slip that both Mondriana and Gerardo are AWOL and didn't sleep in the house the previous night. Elena tells herself that if what she suspects is true, she will kill Gerardo and Elena.
Diego finds out that Doña Lupe has to pay protection money to the gang just like Rodrigo. In spite of the fact that the gang has actually protected him, Maite and Valeria, he tells the gang bangers that what they are doing is wrong and that they should stop making Lupe and Rodrigo pay.
Thanks, Deb. I also like your later comments and corrections, after you've watched it with the captions. They always help clear up things I missed.
One conversation which struck me was when Mireya barges into Antonio's office, demanding that he get her Dad out of jail, after all, Antonio's a powerful man, right? Antonio replies, Girl, your father and I are both bad guys. We do things against the law. In the end, the law wins out. I can't help your father.
Some sobering truth.
Thanks, Jean. As always, love your writing style. Interesting speculation that Carlos may join forces with Los Perros. I loved the way El Chalado's gang fooled him with the fake Maite.
I am not liking Lorena. Not sure if it's the actress' constantly sullen face or the way the writers have written her role. I just find it beyond contemptible that someone would let an obvious psychopath get away with murdering their own SISTER, daughter or no daughter. Surely a moral person would realize that their duty would be to save others from such an evil creature.
Yep, the slightly reformed Ricardo reverted to Little Price behavior in his conversation with his brother about his street art.
I wonder how the writers are going to write themselves out of the situation where the murderous Elena now suspects Gerardo and Mondriana because they both spent the night away from home. Something has to mollify her because it's too early in the novela for Elena to know about their relationship.
Jorge Luis and Maria Elisa are VERY hot and believable lovers in this one!
ok, some of the finer details,
Alma is crying and Camelia goes to her, I miss my father... Antonio, Camelia asks, he is kind, generous, and people like him because he protects them, I don't think he wants to hurt you,
later Octavio asks Alma if she likes helping out in the kitchen, she says Lu wouldn't allow her to help because she might get hurt, he asks if she misses her family, Alma says "sometimes, but I like it here",
later, when Camelia is walking by, she stands on her bed and screams, Camelia goes to her, she says there is a rat,
later (not sure what or where) but she slips something from a ceramic thingy into a matchbox she has, when Octavio stops in, she says she was looking for her doll,
is she learning to work everyone?
Dani is hurt that Octavio would ask this of her, to sleep with Tony for business,
later she corrects Camelia's casual talk, you never want to talk lower than the person you are talking too, Camelia ignores her, she later tells Camelia of the deal with Tony, to sleep with him to have her lands part of the Tequila agreement, and no she didn't tell Octavio.
(without the Tequila designation her drink would be called mescal, and as Octavio said yesterday, "no, no, no, that's what the indians drink)
(didn't catch his name) the worker boss takes Camelia to a meeting, along the way he explains, we break our backs working, what else can we do, we can't run for president, there was only one Juarez and now he is gone.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benito_Juárez
all we have are our hands, there are no roads here, no school, and with out a job we will die,
(rumor is that without the Tequila designation they will be laid off)
at the meeting, both groups of workers (Dani's and Toni's) show up machete's swinging, apparently Dani's workers torched a Toni truck, Toni's workers later shot back into the woods, "we were born here, we will die here",
Camelia explains, you have all worked this land for generations, you are all family, the problems are with your Patrons, who are happy to see you fighting, united you will be strong,
Facundo comes to Carson, and after formal introductions (a fist to Carson's face), they talk, a future anti-drug czar (Jancic), who vowed to end drug traffic to the U.S. was murdered (1961) before an important "summit meeting", Wilson was in charge of his security, (it isn't clear if he had anything to do with that but his career then vanished until he ended up in the DEA assigned to Mexico, which he hates). Carson says Wilson goes off to report to the DEA and won't let him go along, but he has these bus tickets to a little town in Jalisco,
Facundo goes off to save Camelia and Carson follows Wilson to that little town, and we see some nuns.
Alison's love for her son, and hate for Camelia, enable her to cross the desert, to get to them.
Arulfo explains to Jacinto, by dropping all of the money he collected onto the floor, they have to grow faster than their extortion thing will take them, bring me one of Alison's associates, (if one falls in line they all will) and one guy shows up, Misael, Arulfo works his friendly persuasion (torture), the way things are now some armed men will be coming to town that will kill you for just looking at them so would you rather work for us or deal with them, Miseal agrees to work for Arulfo.
Toni and Dani toss down some tequila and dance around sealing the deal, I have been married less than a week and you show up, Dani says, have you seen Julieta (her friend he cheated with) since, and seen what you did to her neck, and Toni throws Camelia into the deal, (and there is always this under-the-surface jealousy Dani has of Camelia around her men)
Camelia shows up with the worker boss, he says, they all work or none work, and workers are happier with roads and a school, and if you bring in others to do the work, the fields may burn. Toni/Dani say they will get back to him, then sign the deal which puts her lands in the Tequila region, and he looks at Camelia, but Dani ushers her out and she completes her part of the bargain,
when Camelia walks back with the worker boss he gives her a necklace made with an agave thorn, from the plant that gives us all life and almost killed us, because you have taught us "united we are strong like the agave"
later Camelia learns from Dani, there will be no school, but maybe some day the road, Dani explains, the Patron must always win.
Camelia then confronts Toni, since when does everything in a deal have to happen, he says, this is Mexico.
and Dani tells Octavio how a smart Camelia riled up the workers to get the deal done for her,
what?
thanks Hombre,
I like digging out these little subtle points because it really enriches our otherwise chopped up story, but to arrange them all into a comprehensible summary really doubles the work so I'm really thankful for your wonderful recaps.
it amazes me that a good recap can be done in a page, because really not much happens, but when watching, it is so intense, not a move is wasted.
I hope mentioning the General's missing stripe didn't ruin anything, I noticed after Benigno was given them, they didn't show the General's left arm again until in the memory of Tomasa.
that was an interesting conversation between Mireya and Antonio,
and I think he also said that the army is the law, we are the criminals,
and as Mireya was leaving, be sure to knock first next time, (good luck with that Antonio).
so I guess if there was a good guy in this show it would be Antonio,,, and maybe Facundo,,, and Mireya (if she wasn't killing people),,, and a wanna be prize for Camelia, and we do love Alacran anyway, Carson might be good, and...
I'm also really liking Joaquín Garrido (Arulfo) in this one. He played a bad guy in "La Patrona", and I got used to his style, he just plants his big body and does his acting with his face, but he was always sad in that one, here his eyes are really alive under that goofy hat, and we get to see him swing that baseball bat.
but then again I like all of the cast, and where is Camelia's mother?.
if there aren't any interruptions after the music awards, I think I figured for a 60 epi novela the gran final will be about may 21.
Deb, mentioning the General's missing stripe didn't ruin anything - it was great, I started paying attention, and could then see it for myself. And sure enough, he looks like the murderer!
Yes, where IS Camelia's mother?
