De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #108 & 109, 6/27/2014
PART ONE
Stomach ailments seemed to be the running theme tonight. Does anyone know where we are on the Mexican episode numbers? Judging from Wikipedia episode titles it looks like #127, #128 and #129...but I don't think they are editing any more. Just curious.
I'll skip right to "Lo Nuevo" ('cause it started with a big ol' belly laugh for me...)
When last we left our little Brigitte the Brat, she was moving in for the
Rod confronts PI McShady(™ Vivi)outside Nat's apartment. He reminds him that they have a deal. McShady tells him that in the course of his investigation, Natalia's name came up. Rod invites him to explain everything over a drink.
Abdull (™Susanlynn)breaks up the cat fight. Angela is astounded he still defends La Jaiba and leaves. La Jaiba tells Abdull that she doesn't want any other women getting near him. That's the way it's gonna be.
Capi calls Andres to tell him to hightail it back to Tuxpan. The owner of the empacadora wants to talk business. Andres was hoping for a couple more days in the DF since things are going so well with Natalia, but ni modo, business is business and he agrees to be in Tuxpan the next day.
Apparently Abdull was not real happy with La Jaiba's jealous rage because she has to do damage control. She apologizes to him and he tells her that Angela is important to him. La Jaiba reminds him that Angela kissed him just to annoy her. He reminds La Jaiba that they weren't even together then! Angela is just a friend, but La Jaiba needs to respect her. She thought bubbles that she's only letting Abdull get away with this because he's of use to her.)
Diego comes home to Alonso's and whines about Nat and Andres being novios. He saw them kissing. Alonso tells him a kiss doesn't mean anything (this coming from a man who slept with Karina and thought it didn't mean anything.) Alonso tells Diego to do something about it. Get creative and get her back.
Irene tells a sleeping Tad to fight. He's so important to her and she loves (querer) him. He wakes up and asks her to say it again. She continues. He's been the pillar of her life, her teacher, her first love and the father of her child. (Such a sad scene.) The phone interrupts them. It's Natalia. Irene quietly tells her that Tad is not doing well. Tad wants to talk to Nat and greets her with "Buenas Noches, hija." Irene takes note.
Recapper note: years ago in the comments Vivi (I believe) had a great explanation of querer and amar (and IIRC, another word.) I hope she's willing to repeat the explanation. There's a little of it in this recap from 2011.
McShady explains that Nat's name ended up on the list of possibilities for being Tad and Irene's daughter. He also tells Rod the gossip about Nat possibly being Padre Juanch and Carmen's love child. Rod thought bubbles that McShady is an idiot who can't see the truth that's in front of him. McShady explains that Tad wants to do a DNA test and that's why he was skulking about Nat's apt. Rod agrees to get the sample that McShady needs.
Carmen thinks about seeing El with Kimberly. Nat gives Carmen a Tad Health report and tells Carmen how sweet he's been to her. He even called her "hija." That sets Carmen to grumbling about "where was he when you had a fever or needed your diapers changed?" (I totally get that Carmen loves Nat as her own, but did it ever occur to her that maybe the woman who abandoned the baby might want to find her one day? She's quite possessive.)
Irene asks about the "hija." He claims to not know what made him call her that. Irene pep talks and wants him to get better.
Carmen continues to complain. First she has to compete with Irene and now she's competing with Tad. Nat assures her that no one can take Carmen's place. Andres comes with a bouquet of flowers and tells them that he's going back to Tuxpan for business. He stays for coffee.
Karina calls Alonso and apologizes again for letting his sister think she was his girlfriend. She just loves him (querer.) Are they friends again? The spineless Alonso agrees to be friends again. Twerp.
Angela tends her wounds when the phone rings. 1. I love her apartment and 2. We never find out who called. 3. What was the point of this scene?
Andres explains why he's going back. Natalia is pretty sure that with that kiss Rod and Diego won't be bothering her, but Andres wants her to let him know if she needs anything. He'll come back ASAP. When he does return he wants her to help bring him up to fashion speed. What's the use of having a fashion designer as a girlfriend if isn't to look sharp? He leaves and Carmen asks if Nat wouldn't like to have Andres as a boyfriend. Nat asks mom if she wouldn't like to have Abdallah as a boyfriend. They have a child together. Carmen excuses herself, then remembers to ask about Paolo.
Kimberly does some weed and egg brujería on a sleeping El. She can't remember how many days her mother told her to perform the spell.
Nat thinks about Diego and Andres. Miniature versions of them magically appear on either side. Mini-Diego and Mini-Andres start fighting over Nat. "She's my wife!" "I've known her forever!" She can't deny she loves Diego. She manages to shake them from her thoughts.
Diego watches TV and flashbacks: Kiss with Andres and Alonso's advice to win her back.
Karina is also watching TV and pity partying. She's alone. She doesn't even have a dog to bark at her. It's so sad to be alone. What she would give to have unique and true affection.
Mara sneaks Paolo out of the house. He tells her he loves her (amar.) Damn. He said "fue increíble." What? What fue increíble? Did they or didn't they? And dear lord, Mara... did you use BC or not? Sigh. I'm kind of disappointed. Oh, back to recap. The deadbolt is set and they need the key. They can't find Mara's so they sneak into Angela's room. She wakes up. Everyone screams.
Paolo makes it home and is surprised by Luchón. Carmen had called him and the last he saw of Paolo he had left with Mara. He was worried. Paolo tells them he went to play pool and his cell phone died. Carmen tells Luchón to stay the night in Abdull's room.
Kimberly awakes to find El gone. He was busy in the bathroom. Gross sound effects. FF>>
Diego and Nat both arrive at work with sunglasses. She wonders if Diego had a bad night. He says as a matter of fact he did and it's her fault. She tells him about Andres heading back to Tuxpan and Diego assumes that's why her night was not great. He tells himself to suck it up and he leaves. Nat berates herself for what she said.
Brat (ironically dressed in lemon yellow) is accosted by a hair pulling Rodrigo. She gets pithed and and flounces out. Rod bags his hair sample. (He literally puts it in a bag. He's a horn-dog, but he's not that far gone.) He mumbles that no one will know that Nat is Irene's child.
Wow. I'm only 25 minutes in and I'm getting wordy. Sorry.
Karina calls Alonso. She had insomnia and spent the night thinking. Alonso warns that insomnia is never a good counselor. She wants to come talk to him about something she thinks he'll like. He spinelessly agrees.
Marcelo (aka Jean Marie aka Irene's Fashion show guy) calls Irene and finds out about Tad. He's called because they need to get the programs ready for the next collection launch. Irene tells him to communicate with Nat and Diego. They are in charge while she's away. Marcelo sends his good wishes to Tad.
Ok. They must be editing again because I didn't see the part where Karina smoked crack and then dropped acid. That's the only explanation I have for the proposition she makes to Alonso: Let's make a baby!! She likes kids and he likes kids! Perfect reason to breed, right?
Rod hands the hair sample and some money over to McShady. Rodrigo doesn't want Tad to find out anything and wants to be informed of the DNA test first. McShady agrees that he who pays gets to call the shots.
Karina scratches her neck and pleads her case. Alonso tries to explain that having a baby is a huge responsibilty. He tells her again clearly that he doesn't love (amar) her and he never will. Say the words as clearly as you want, Al, if you keep agreeing to see her and eat her baked goods (literal, he only ate her metaphoric baked goods once and he was drunk) it's not going to make an impression on Karina.
Brat gets nauseous and runs out of the workroom. Aw.Hell.
Karina still pushes. She tells Alonso to think about it. It'll be like a business deal. She won't be the same stalking Karina like she was before. She'll just be the crazy let's make a baby Karina. He's got great genetics. She swears she just wants his sperm. Alonso can't believe Karina would suggst such a crazy thing.
Diego has called Marcelo and they agree to get together about the program when Marcelo gets back from a conferende. Marcelo asks Diego to convince Nat to model again. She's the image of the brand. This gives Diego an idea.
Brat runs into Rod in the hall. He asks if she wants to earn a little money. Brat kvetches about the rent he didn't give her and he tells her he's a better at business than love. She wants to know what she has to do and he explains that he wants to know all of Nat and Diego's comings and goings. This annoys Brat, but she agrees anyway. But she's not doing a thing until she sees the money. Business is business.
In NY Irene is worried about Tad's fever and chills. The doc makes a quick examination and goes to get meds. Irene follows and asks for the real diagnosis. The doctor cuts to the chase. They are in a race against the clock. They can keep giving the meds, but they need a donor for the translpant and even when they find one, they have to hope Tad doesn't reject it.
Diego tells Nat that Marcelo is preparing the program for the next launch and just needs some pictures of her for the cover. Nat wonders if they can't just use the pictures from all the ones they took at the last session. Diego doesn't think so. Work is work.
Capi is worried that Andres is getting his hopes up about Nat and that she's taking advantage of his honorable nature. Andres tells him she's not and she's even going to help him with his image. Capi worries that Andres is trying to be something he's not. Andres assures him that won't happen. Capy says if it does, he's OUT. They head in for their business meeting.
Nat reluctantly agrees to do the photo shoot and is about to call Marcelo, but Diego stops her. Marcelos was headed right to the airport. Nat asks if she'll be going alone. Diego wonders why she's asking, but Nat is already grabbing the phone to call Irene. Diego is saved because before Nat has a chance to ask about the shoot, Irene tells her all about Tad and is very upset. Nat decides not to bother Irene with her petty problem of not wanting to have her picture taken.
Alonso eats cake and sees babies everywhere. All the moms turn into Karina. One baby gets a superimosed Alonso head which I found ridiculously hilarious.
Andres tells Nat that not only did he buy the packing plant, but he bought two fishing boats too! Andres will have to stay in Tuxpan a little longer. Nat lets Carmen know the good news. Carmen tries to drop hints to Nat about Andres again and Nat drops hints about El. Carmen doesn't think El is worth the fight.
Speaking of El, he's dragged himself to work and we get treated to more gross sound effects. Morales wonders what El ate. He's only eaten what Kimberly fixed. That El and Kimberly are back togehter is news to Morales. He's pretty bummed about it.
Kimberly tells her mother that all she's managed to do is get El sick. Mamá tells Kimberly to just give him a little spoonful and lots of water.
Nat and Diego discuss how to address each other. They decide to go back to usted. Nat asks if there's any more info about the photo shoot and Diego hands over an envelope. She is not happy to see she's expected to be in Acapulco the next day. Diego reminds her about professionalism. Nat says it will be good to get away from him for a couple of days. He agress it's hard to work with one's "ex." Nat gets mad and flounces out. Diego thinks she's cute when she's angry.
PART DEUX
Rod texts Brat and lets her know that he's deposited 3,000 pesos in her account. Brat thinks that's pretty measly and Rod is crazy if he thinks she's going to do what he asks for that amount. Nat comes in and asks Brat to be in charge of the taller while she's at a photo shop in Acapulco.
El visits Mama Luz and tells her he has diarrhea. When Luz finds out he's only eaten what Kim prepared she fusses a bit about the woman now knowing her way around the kitchen. El asks her not to be hard on Kim and make him some tea. Luz scurries off so fix a concoction of herbs, chamomile and albahaca (basil.) El approaches Lupita who refuses to speak to him. He feigns pain and distress; scaring the child. Lupita freaks. El laughs and tricks her into telling him she loves him (querer.) NOT COOL. Lupita tries to get him to scheme with her to get rid of Abdoll (™ Susanlynn), but El refuses.
Abdoll and his shiny suit at at La Jaiba's. He orders an anise flavored liquor and explains that's what he drinks in Turkey. Abdull perks up when he hears this and sits down to talk. Turns out his miserable father is from Turkey. Abdoll doesn't look to happy about being called an "infeliz."
Carmen helps Nat pack and gives her a little regañadita for complaining. It's a trip to Acapulco! She should take advantage of it! Enjoy yourself. Oh, and don't forget sunscreen and insect repellent. After Carmen leaves, Nat still complains about going alone. Diego should at least go with her. Then she wonders what the heck she's saying. He doesn't want to be with his "ex."
Abdoll wonders why Abdull would say such unkind things about his dad. What else is there to say about a man that leaves a pregnant woman to fend for herself? But Abdull doesn't want to talk about his dad. His mom is worth the conversation. She's entrona (spirited) and hard-working. She did what she needed to do to get the family ahead and whild she may be mad at him for leaving the house, she's still a great mom. Abdull hopes she gets over being angry soon because he misses her.
Meanwhile La Jaiba sees Abdull talking to her new target and tells one of the girls to get Abdull away with some story about a problem in the kitchen. Abdoll knows whats happening and figures La Jaiba won't let his son talk to him anymore so he leaves. La Jaiba wonders what Abdull could have said. She goes to the kitchen and asks but Abdull tells her they didn't really talk about anything important. La Jaiba tells herself that if Adbull were suspicious he would have already given her hell.
Acapulco boat ride. Pretty scenery, but Nat is still a little nervous. She gets dropped off with her luggage in a pretty remote location and the boat boys speed away. Posters direct her to a hidden spot where Diego awaits. Nothing says "I care" like making someone traipse through the jungle and over rocks with their luggage.
Nat is pretty calm, in my opinion. I would have thrown my luggage at him. She just asks for an immediate explanation and berates herself for falling into yet another trap. Diego swears he was just trying to figure out a way for them to be together in peace. Nat tells him all he's manage to do is make her detest him even more. He calls her preciosa and this sets of alarms. She picks up some driftwood and tells him only Rod calls her that.
The real Rod is, in fact, looking for Diego at Caprico. Rosa informs him that Diego is not coming in.
Diego continues to swear he's not Rod. Nat asks him to tell her something only Diego would know and he retells the story of her turning down his marriage proposal and the ridiculous balloons. Nat is convinced he's Diego, but that doesn't change anything. He brought her there by force. He tells her she's free to go and she sarcastically notes the volume of taxis in the area. He's just like his brother! Diego doesn't take kindly to that. Nat tells him to stop doing things like his brother and maybe she'll remember she loves him. Diego gets very excited to hear that and Nat just grimaces.
Rod checks to see where Natalia is. She's not in her office, either. He tries to call, but of course gets the "número se marcó..." message. He gets suspicious.
Diego takes Natalia's comment about loving him to mean that she and Andres aren't really an item. Nat tries to deny it, but it's pointless. Diego knows that Nat may love (querer) Andres, but not like she loves Diego. She accidentally drops the stick on his foot. He's not going to sweet talk and get her befuddled again. She stalks off behind a rock. Diego calls after her that she won't get too far. There's no one around and they aren't coming to pick them up until tomorrow.
Rod is mad that Brat didn't tell him about Nat and Diego. Brat claims she didn't realize he wanted updates about work. He should be better informed than she. Anyway, Nat went on some photo shoot in Acapulco. Brat doesn't know where Diego is, but he's probably with Nat. Rod tries to tell himself that it's one thing to go on a business trip...surely something isn't going on between them. (This is the second time Brat has worn a strapless tube dress to work. How professional. Guess it depends on which profession we're talking about.) Rod leaves and Brat gets nauseous again. Aw.Hell.Part.Deux.
Abdoll tells Carmen about the talk he had with Abdull. The boy is none to happy with his father, but he thinks his mom is the best mom in the world. Carmen doesn't see why Abdoll is so upset. Why would he expect person to think well of a man whose only role in their child's life was conception? She promises to help him reconcile with his son, though. Abdoll's main goal right now is to get his son away from the Crab's clutches and back on the path of righteousness. He tells Carmen she needs to go, though, because he's meeting the Crab.
Nat is still hiding behind her rock, but now she's complaining about the heat and being thirsty. Plus she's a little mad that Diego is relaxing in the shade of his tent and drinking water. He hasn't even come to look for her. For his part, Diego is wondering if he should go looking for Nat. He decides against it. He knows the hunger and thirst will wear her down and she'll come back.
La Jaiba arrives at the restaurant for her date with Abdaddy. She wondered about his quick exit and he explains that he got the impression he was causing trouble between her and her boyfriend. She explains it's not as serious a relationship as he thinks. Abdull has this crazy mama who threw him out of the house and she offered to help him. It's not really a relationship that satisfies her, but she doesn't really know how to end it. Abdaddy thinks he needs to continue his search for a woman to share his life in Turkey. La Jaiba is taken. She swears she settle things with Abdullard 'cause she needs a real man and she and Abdaddy are soul mates.
Who is this mystery woman with the baby?? Whoever it is, she's got a lot to do. She has to pick up Valentina from kinder and then head over to the DIF because of her divorce. She doesn't have time for little Tomas and the fever. Alonso offers to watch him and she goes to get the diaper bag from her office. So she's some professional neighbor in the building. I love that Alonso is kind of a catch all doctor. If it's medical on this show, he's the one they consult. I'm just glad Tad has his own doctors.
El is still suffering from his stomach malady. He asks Morales if he's got anything on the Turk. Seems the Turk is clean. His business is clean and he pays his taxes. The stomach sound effects start up again and El runs out of the office. (Sorry to use "runs".)
Alonso changes Tomas' diaper and Univision did not blur out the flashes of Tomas' baby winky. I think they did do a little circumcision of the part where he pees on Alonso. Alonso makes a joke that Tomas wants to be a fireman.
The sun has gone down and now the mosquitoes are making a meal out of Nat. Diego asks if she's ok and tells her to come to the tent. He's got bug repellent. She blames him for her woes. He tries to tell her she's being ridiculous and then tells her all about the spiders, snakes, scorpions, wild boars and mutant salt-water crocodiles out there. She doesn't fall for it. She's not scared....until she hears something howling. Diego tells her there's room in the tent when she's ready.
Alonso comes home and talks to himself about how much he likes kids and should have been a pediatrician.
Nat sneaks into the tent while Diego is "asleep" she feasts and drinks water then sneaks into bed with him.
La Jaiba thought bubbles that Abdullard is a cutie and good at business, but she has to look out for herself. She wonders what Turkey is like. She thinks she needs to find someone to buy her business. Abdullard gets on to her about drinking on the job. She hopes Abdaddy is not as fussy, finicky and prim (remilgoso) as Abdullard.
Nat watches Diego "sleep." She settles down to sleep and Diego covers her up. She gets mad, but he asks her to stay. He'll watch over her and nothing will happen unless she wants to. They snuggle.
The next morning Diego tries his hand at fishing. Nat comes out in her bikini and I think I need to lay off the fried foods. Diego is impressed, too. She asks if she can give the fishing a try. He thinks it's his job to provide and Nat reminds him they aren't living in the stone age. He hands her the fishing rod and asks how she slept. She slept fine. Diego asks if he's proven that he's no danger. It's a little awkward, but a fish bites and diverts their attention.
Rodrigo calls Irene with the pretext of needing some info about a supplier. Nat and Diego aren't around so he called to ask her. Irene seems surprised about the trip, confirming Rod's suspicions. Then Irene remembers that, yes, Marcelo did need some things for the catalog. Rod thinks everyone is trying to help Nat and Diego to be together.
Nat and Diego lounge on the beach and get so caught up in each other they almost burn the fish.
Love in Acapulco montage. I got to hand it to the producers...it was risky to let JDC the pasty doughboy do the bathing suit scenes.
Again, they must have cut some scenes. I don't remember seeing Al smoke any crack or drop some acid either. But there he is AGREEING TO KARINA'S BABY-MAKING PROPOSAL. She is thrilled of course.
Diego and Nat smooch in the waves and Nat confesses the Andres thing was a lie. Diego forgives her and they start to smooching again when Diego begins to writhe in pain. He has been stung by a Portuguese man o' war (una agua mala.) More writhing and panic. It burns.
Karina is so excited. She's ready to talk deal, conditions and rules. Alonso's first rule is "don't call me muñe." She goes to get her calendar. Shouldn't the first rule be "we're going to a fertility establishment so we don't actually have to sleep together"?
Mama Luz goes to see Kim at El's apartment. The girl clearly needs cooking lessons and Luz is gonna give them to her. Luz heads to the kitchen to check the fridge.
Karina and Alonso discuss her menstrual cycle. I'm so glad to know she's regular. She offers coffee and he refuses. He tells her to lay off alcohol, canned food (?) and sugar. But not coffee? He's not going to say anything about that? And he tells her to start taking folic acid. She celebrates her impending maternity when he leaves.
Rod abuses his desk and is interrupted by Vicente. Rod blames inept employees for his violence. Some report was screwed up, but he fixed it. Vicente encourages Rod to fire anyone who needs to be fired. Vicente wants to see Diego. Someone wants to open a boutique in Monterrey. Rod informs him about Diego and Nat's "photo shoot". Vicente calls Irene.
Diego is getting worse. They are waiting for the boat boys to pick them up. Nat worries that Diego is suffering from tachycardia.
Vicente yells at Irene. Irene tells him they are doing business then they are doing business. She doesn't have time for Vicente's crap and hangs up, much to Vicente's surprise. Rosa interrupts to report that the factory called. Some machine is screwed up and it's putting Eskenda behind.
Luz checks the expiration dates on everything and makes a "keep" pile and a "trash" pile. Whatever it was that Kim's mom gave her, it smells awful and it goes into the "trash" pile. Kim is relieve she didn't get busted.
Abdullard works on the books and comments on La Jaiba's horrible business sense. He thinks they should start a happy hour, but Jaiba nixes the idea. She tells him she's going out with an amiga, but Abdullard doesn't think she's telling the truth. He followers her.
Diego is now delirious. The boat boys finally show up and treat Diego with some alternative medicine: sand and pee.
The factory gerente explains about the machines and Rod realizes it's the machines that his embezzling partner bought. Rod asks why the gerente didn't tell them. He explains that he did tell Irene and she told him to fix it. He tried, but clearly it didn't work. Vicente does not need Eskenda a half production right now and tells Rod to find the warranty.
Luz and Kim keep yammering about El and his ailments. They'll go to the store to get the fixins for a chicken soup.
Rod needs the warranty. His shady partner doesn't have them and doesn't really care. Rod's the one who will get caught. Rod was the one that gave him the shaft. Sure he could fix the problem, but it's going to cost Rod a pretty penny. Rod knew they were putting refurbished machines in there. Rod tells him to go to hell and hangs up. He tells himself he has to figure out a way to solve this and not get caught.
Avances
- Rod wants Nat.
- The truth about Nat's parents comes out???

So true! Last night's episodes were weird beyond belief. The fertility/reproduce no matter what message is insane. At least in our culture.
Totally agree with your characterization of Alonso as a spineless twerp. And Good Lord! Karina, you have a job as a waitress. This is not career-track employment. How do you expect to provide for a child? My head hurts. It really does.
And now Paolo and his novia. Isn't he still in prepa? And she as well. Is there going to be a little Paolito on the scene soon?
This is certainly a Disney type production with the little conflicting twins dancing around Natalia's head.
And yes, Sara, you missed the scene where Karina smoked crack and dropped acid; and lo and behold Alonso must have also done Stupid Drugs because here we are. If someone took this decision in their early 40's, knowing their fertility time was about to end, I would understand. But these folks are still in their 20's or early 30's, no?
At any rate, the message seems to be make-a-baby, make-a-baby and don't worry. It will all go well. Oh my.
Did thoroughly enjoy the Andres/Brigette scene. And God help me, I actually think Rodrigo is cuter and sexier right now than Diego. He's a murderous, larcenous bum, but I love how he handles Brigette and Vincente and gets away with it. He's the bad boy we all fantasized about at some point in our silly adolescence.
Looking forward to Part II so that we can all commiserate together. What a mess!
Drat, I missed the beginning and therefore Andres' sound rejection of the Brat. Thank you for the juicy retelling (which I read several times, smiling).
"Carmen continues to complain. First she has to compete with Irene and now she's competing with Tad", "Brat (ironically dressed in lemon yellow)" and "Al, if you keep agreeing to see her and eat her baked goods (literal, he only ate her metaphoric baked goods once and he was drunk) it's not going to make an impression on Karina" were a few of my favorites.
Alonso. I'm trying to recall that once upon a time he was a rather sweet fellow who was charming and bright enough to have captivated Irene. Where did this man go?? His continuing "friendship" with Karina is inexplicable. Now he is going to father her child?? We knew Karina was delusional, and this latest twist is proving Alonso is way too immature and incapable of rational thought process to be a credible candidate for Irene's heart. Period.
I speculate the Brat is pregnant - but who is the father?
It appears Paolo and Mara did make love. I also was a bit disappointed, I had hoped they would wait.
Judy, still savoring your "At any rate, the message seems to be make-a-baby, make-a-baby and don't worry. It will all go well. Oh my". Well said amiga!
Sara, thank you for all of the excellent detail. Looking foward to Part 2.
Diana
I'm clearly doing something wrong because it took me far too long to do that last hour.
HOLY COW! I agree with Anon@0351. What kind of fool, idiot, jerk is Alonso. Are we REALLY going to have to see Irene end up with this fool?! This would be wrong on so many levels. I know that my anger and frustration at this idiotic Alonso/Karina story line is wasted on the writers, but this is really stupid.
Alonso is supposed to be a medical professional, but look at what he does?! How could anyone trust this man?! That whole scene frustrated me so that I turned it off and tuned out the rest of the TN. I was wading in and out as it was, but that scene was beyond ridiculous.
Karina is a dangerous Fatal Attraction and Alonso is one stupid fool.
Fatima
On my yes! Ask me how I know!!!
Fatima
I don't like that Paolo and Mara might have gone all the way. Not that I'm a prude, but given the way her mother is, I fear is will cause some trouble. Especially if Mara winds up pregnant.
I'm just speechless about Karina and Alonso. Why is Karina even in this show? So far her role has been to languish until they need to do something pertinent with Alonso.
I am also concerned about Rod's messing with McShady and the DNA sample. Tad needs a bone-marrow transplant and things are looking like he'll never know Nat is his daughter.
Very frustrating all around.
You are not doing anything wrong as far as I am concerned. Quite the opposite.
Loved Rod being exposed re: the used machines.
Alonso continues to disappoint as a trained mental health care professional. I can't believe this is the best thing he can come up with.
So Nat and Diego have finally come up with a rudimentary secret identification code. He wasn't wearing a tie, so this became necessary.
I consider Andres irritating, but loved how he got Brat's number right off the bat.
Although I admire Carmen, she raises some serious questions regarding her past relationships and how these played out.
I find it funny how Tad, and now Rod go around trying to pull hair out of Nat and Brat.
Fatima: How do you know?
David
Fatima
Just an observation: All of Carmen's men have had facial hair.
May I say again that I am frustrated by the night's events.
Good thoughts you have there re Karina.
Fatima
I think you are probably right about Karina. I can't see her sticking around to the end.
It's also got me thinking about Brat. If she is indeed pregnant, will she end up being a redeemable character or an expendable one. If expendable, will Nat and Diego be the ones to take in her baby. This is all conjecture, of course.
Sara, thank you for the recap. And validating my feelings about last night's shenanigans.
My best guess is that the crack and/or acid is the secret ingredient in all of Karina's baked goods. I wonder if the actors ever look at their scripts and say the same things. "Wait...I agree to do what?! With who?! No way! Somebody call my agent!" Maybe Karina's little extra something-something in the cookies is how she affords that apartment. I've always thought it looked way too nice for her to be able to afford, especially without a roommate.
I'm glad Luz cleaned out the fridge at Eleazar's. And disappointed in Kimberly. She was showing signs of self-respect at last and then she threw it out the window for a chance at nookie with El. Oh...I guess when I put it that way....
I don't know why I never caught that part of Rod's embezzling scheme was the machines. I thought it was all fabric. When the machines were messing up, I thought that was due to the fabric being low-quality. I wasn't listening well enough when the guy told him the machines would look super-high-quality but really weren't. He must have said "fabrica" referring to the machines being for their new production plant and in my head I thought "fabric," but fabric is "tela."
I'm still shaking my head over the insane deal that Katrina and Adolfo are contemplating. And yes, the apartment is way more than she could afford. We had a dump-of-a-bar pole dancer in Lo Que La Vida Me Robo that had a beautiful apartment, tastefully and completely decorated. As if!
I still remember my college teaching days in an old apartment, a hollow-core door with legs as a coffee table,a bookshelf made of boards and concrete blocks, cheap unlined curtains from Sears and some leftover furniture from my parents' house. With the pole dancer, it looked like everything came from Pottery Barn.
My family had board and cinder block shelves in my house growing up, too.
"I didn't see the part where Karina smoked crack and then dropped acid" Nor did I.
Well if we're talking about living within your means both Nat & Brigitte dress way above their pay grade, even before this whole fashion gig thingie.
Am I supposed to find it endearing Alonso's cute little musings and diaper change attempt and for one minute believe this clown, adult enough for a 40 year old woman in the happily ever after? Clearly these two episodes were written by teenage boys and evident, with not one, but two people being peed on, another with the trots and a discourse on a woman's time of the month.
Alonso - Dennis the Menace to Society
Karina - better donors available in the Tenderloin
Irene - you're in for a surprise
Brigitte - you'll be one ugly old lady
Nat - it's clear beauty, a rocking bod and brains don't mix
Diego - I guess I would but only if you were on fire
Kim - the way to a man's heart is through his stomach not out his ....
Hot Rod - sold as is
Paolo - like father like son?
Abdul - greenhorn
Andres - your hopes are misplaced
Tad - take solace you will not be around for the train wreck, unfortunately we will
Judyb...I never was attracted to the bad boys. I always went for the good boys.....who occasionally turned out to be bad boys.
In this show, El would be first on my list with Big Al coming in second.
Oh tofie!! I had to laugh at your proof that teenage boys wrote these episodes! Nat in a bikini is further proof. She's managed to stay rather modestly clothed for 120something episodes, but now she's barely clad.
I enjoyed your recap as always.
It interested me that you, JudyB, and 5ft didn't pick up on the used machines, yet you ladies notice all kinds of stuff about clothes and dwellings that go right over my head. I noticed that Nat had a bikini on at the beach vs a dress at the office, but that's about as fine a distinction as I can make. I am also amazed that tofie can tell the relative value of clothing without looking at a price tag.
As an example, once I noticed our mud room was a different color than I remembered. I asked my wife about it and she told me it had been repainted 5 years before.
Fatima: Hope the cad got his.
David
I love the deal on your mud room! David, FIVE YEARS!!!!! :))
Fatima
I don't know why these tns can't show young people making out without going all the way (except Nat and Diego, that is). I am not happy that Mara and Paolo had sex, especially since I don't think either one of them was walking around with condoms. Please, can we not have a teen pregnancy. As for the Brat, I feel so sorry for that kid. Please let the dad be Alberto so that it has a fighting chance at having at least one good parent.
If I still had the body that Nat has, I would rock an equally tiny bikini. You go, Nat!
Fatima and Judy, I am quite disgusted with Alonso. This storyline gets more unpalatable every minute. He makes one poor decision after another. He gave Karina an inch and she has now taken a mile. As a profesional? Shame on him!!
Sara, so appreciate your embedded vocabulary including "entrona (spirited)" and "prim (remilgoso)". Thank you!
Vivi, I am fervently hoping that Alberto is Brat's baby's father. I have no hope for the poor child if it's Rod.
Nat rocked that bikini.
David, add me to the list of those laughing appreciatively at your story. Well, you noticed! It took a bit but..:)
tofie, enjoyed (but hope you are wrong about) "Tad - take solace you will not be around for the train wreck, unfortunately we will.
Welcome Anne!
Diana
Good idea of Diego to take Nat away from everything so they have a chance to spend some quality time together. Though I agree, he was a bit of a s**t for letting her schlep that suitcase for what seems like MILES over rocks, etc.
I know TNs use pregnancies as dramatic plotlines, but I’m really tired of seeing all these surprise pregnancies. Seriously, do they not know anything about birth control?! Is it a cultural thing or a TN thing. You would think someone like Diana or Brigitte—two women who are catting around on their SOs and don’t really want kids—would be all over that BC thing.
Nanette
Does anyone remember?

I just wish there weren't so many unexpected pregnancies from sheer stupidity and carelessness. BC is available in Mexico, yet tns seem to lean more towards the conservative Catholic view of it by having characters consistently not use it nor mention it as an option (and in real life Mexico single motherhood is a huge and growing problem too).
