Lo Que La Vida Me Robó Lunes 6/2/14 #144

Chapter 144: Can't Face the Competition

Monserrat's House, Master Bedroom: Monserrat sat on the couch because she had a fainting spell. She told José Luis that it was nothing, but he slid along the floor to the couch, saying she might be pregnant. She scoffed at this, but he was determined to believe it. She collected herself to help him back to the bed. Once he was seated there she excused herself and headed for the bathroom. He watched her with a hint of suspicion.

Lt. Mendoza's Apartment: Mónica was making the bed and talking about doing some shopping after breakfast to buy things for their new digs. After they kissed he left to fetch breakfast and she sat down to look at a magazine.

Monserrat's House, Master Bathroom: She braced herself against the vanity, clutching her stomach, and began to cry. The thought of pregnancy frightened her because she knew that it would forever tie her to José Luis. She had been trying to explain why she couldn't stay married to him, but he would never let her go now.

Bakery Café: Josefina Valverde and Adolfo Argüelles were enjoying their breakfast in the cafe. They complimented Dominga on the quality of the bread, which pleased Dominga greatly. She knew that they were people of sophisticated tastes and this made her day. She left them to their conversation. When Adolfo was sure nobody could hear him he moved in closer and told Josefina that nothing was more delicious than her mouth. They kissed just as Dimitrio Mendoza arrived in time to see them. After breaking the kiss both noticed him staring at them. Josefina was embarrassed, but Adolfo was nonplussed.

Valverde House: While their hostess struggled with this unfamiliar situation, Alejandro Almonte and Victor Hernández sat in her garden. They talked about Victor's helpless wife and daughter who were in captivity and what they were going to do about it. Josefina had contacted Adolfo

Victor, be very careful. I don't trust him.”

Me neither, much, but he's Nadia's brother. He can see her at Medina's house without a problem. He seemed sincere when he said he was worried about Nadia and Victoria's situation. He's family; he wants the best for her. He should want to save her from that SOB. Besides, he shouldn't have a problem if she returns to me.”

Yes. I agree you don't have any choice right now other than accepting Adolfo's help. But you have to take precautions.”

Yes; don't worry. And before that Adolfo says he wants to talk to you. He wants you to contact him as soon as possible.”

Why?”

I don't know, but it looks like he's got something important to tell you.”

Alejandro had a light-bulb moment. “María?”

María?”

They have history, remember?.”

Right; I didn't think about that. Chances are it could be about her.”

What could it be after all these years?”

Maybe that she took the news of your death very badly.”

I hope it's not another another suicide attempt.”

If she knows you're alive and here in Aguazul she won't take that calmly, either.”

Alejandro didn't look very calm at that news.

Monserrat's House, Master Bathroom: She flushed the toilet, rinsed out her mouth, and took a few deep breaths. She desperately needed to be calm to face her husband, so she paused for a second before leaving the bathroom.

Bakery Café: Adolfo asked Dimitrio to join them, but he declined. Josefina wasn't alright with this. The situation was awkward at best and embarrassing at worst. Adolfo somehow didn't see that.

Why don't you join us? It's been ages and why can't we be friends again?”

Why can't we be friends? We were never really friends,” said Dimitrio. “We had some interests in common, but we weren't friends. It's not because of Josefina. And Josefina? I don't want to compare anyone. It's mutual, isn't it?” He looked back at Adolfo. “I don't deal with hypocrites, either.”

He turned away to go inside the shop. Josefina and Adolfo left. He looked disappointed while she was cool as a cucumber. Macario handed Dimitrio his order and gave him Dominga's good wishes. He watched as Dimitrio left. Dominga came out and slapped him on his back. She reproached him for looking for gossip about this odd love triangle.

Monserrat's House: Monserrat returned to the bedroom. José Luis wouldn't give up.

My love, tell me. Is it true? Am I going to become a father?”

I have to talk to you about that. Don't jump to conclusions. Don't get your hopes up yet.”

How could I not?” He was obviously thrilled at the prospect.

Because it's only a suspicion. Most likely we're mistaken.”

Hm. No; I hope we're right. To have a child would make me very happy.”

Please don't tell anyone. Neither of us will talk about it until we're sure.” She placed a pillow under his injured foot. “Does that feel better?”

Hm. So why don't you take a test? Pick one up at the drugstore?”

No; it's too soon. It's just a short delay. It'll be a little longer before the test would show if I'm pregnant.”

He motioned toward the pillow on her side of the bed. “Come here, love. I want to hold you.”

Just a minute; I think I have a headache.”

Saved by the bell. Actually, it was the phone on José Luis' side of the bed. He answered, but there was a fast disconnection. He shrugged as he hung up the receiver.

Monserrat's cell phone rang in her purse. She looked at it and noted it was Josefina's number.

Hello?”

It was not Josefina at the other end. “Hello, my love. It's me.”

Medina Mansion: Nadia was giving little Victoria a piano lesson. It was obviously her first one. The little girl was eager to learn so she could play someday for her father. Her real one. Both missed Victor very much. Adolfo and Josefina arrived and Victoria ran to embrace Josefina. The affection between them was real. She released her to Adolfo, then embraced her old friend. She told her that the guards outside were very sinister but allowed her in because she was with Adolfo. He asked about Pedro and Nadia told them that he left early for work and would be gone until evening. Josefina was relieved. She told her that they had a lot to talk about. Nadia suggested that they go into the garden.

Monserrat's House, Master Bedroom: Monserrat knew she had to be very careful.

I wasn't expecting your call, Josefina.”

I was just called your place and your husband answered. Can you talk?”

No.”

You're with him, right?” He should have seen the look on José Luis' face.

Actually, Josefina, I'm rather busy right now. Can we talk later?”

I woke up this morning at the hotel and you had gone.”

Forgive me. It's a little complicated right now.”

I need to see you. To kiss you.”

I'll get back to you as soon as possible.”

I have to see you, my love.”

Very well.”

I'm staying at Josefina's place. She's helping me and Victor.”

I didn't know.”

Do you have the address?”

What? You're not living in the same place as before?”

No. Looks like she sold the place and bought another.”

Ah. In that case give me the address.” She motioned to José Luis to hand her a pen. She took the address book to write it down. José Luis called “Josefina!” over her shoulder into the phone, but Monserrat moved quickly away.

OK, good. Then I'll see you later,” she said, before ending the call.

What's up with Josefina?” José Luis asked.

It's that she just found out Dimitrio moved in with Mónica. She's not taking it well.” She looked around for something else before heading out the door. “She wants to talk to me and I have to see her. Poor thing. She's not well. I'll be back later.”

José Luis went back to bed and Monserrat leaned over to kiss him. On the forehead. As she left the bedroom he leaned back and daydreamed about his possible child.

Monserrat had a nasty surprise when she got down the stairs. Gracie arrived and let herself in, as usual. She was loaded for bear.

Princess,” Gracie said. “Aren't you going to greet me?”

I didn't know you were here, Mother.” She was the last person Monserrat wanted to see.

Gracie wagged her finger as though scolding a child of ten. “You haven't called me since coming back from your honeymoon, Monserrat.”

You understand that I'm very annoyed with you.”

We need to talk, my love.” She did not see Rosario entering from the sliding doors behind her. “You can't blame me for everything that happened to Alejandro.”

What happened to my son?” asked Rosario.

Nothing, Mama Rosario; don't worry,” Monserrat said. She shot her a look that Gracie couldn't see.

You can't give me fifteen minutes, my dear?” asked Gracie.

I can't. I'm going out and I'm in a hurry.”

Don't worry. I'm going to persist and persist and persist until we talk calmly,” she said. “In private.” She gave an insulting look to Rosario on that note.

I'll call you tomorrow, Mother,” Monserrat said, heading for the door.

You look beautiful, my girl. Your eyes look very bright. Could you be pregnant?”

No,” said Monserrat and Rosario at the same time.

Of course not, Mother.”

And why are you reacting like this? It would be normal, wouldn't it? José Luis and you just returned from your honeymoon. Therefore I'm sure my grandson would be delighted to have a little brother.” She grinned maliciously in front of Rosario. She had hated her from the moment she realized that her own children saw her as more maternal than herself.

I don't have time for this stuff. I'm going,” said Monserrat.

Have a good day, love,” said Gracie with about as much sincerity as a hyena. When her daughter was out the door she turned to her hated maternal rival. “Wouldn't it be beautiful? Doesn't she seem a little nervous?”

She has things to do, Chela.”

Where's she going in such a hurry?”

What does that matter?” Rosario shrugged and left her standing there in frustration.

Medina Mansion, Garden: Josefina watched Adolfo play with Victoria while talking with Nadia. Nadia wondered whether something was going on between Josefina and her brother. Josefina denied it, saying they were just good friends. Nadia liked the idea of them getting involved, but she warned Josefina of her brother's track record as a womanizer.

Lt. Mendoza's Apartment: Mónica noticed that something was bothering Dimitrio. She tried to get him to talk. He said everything was alright, but she wasn't buying it.

Monserrat's House: Gracie made herself at home on the couch. As she noisily tapped the spoon against the inside of the cup, Rosario appeared with a tea tray. Despite the fact that her guest was less than welcome.

You thought I wasn't here, Chela.”

Then you didn't think well, Chayo,” said Gracie with her usual pointed insult. “I keep wondering what it is about me that bugs you and you're mute. I'm waiting for my baby.”

Then you didn't know? Dimitrio doesn't live here anymore.”

What? And where did he go?”

José Luis rented his place to him. And he will be living there with his girlfriend.”

Hm. That surprises me. I thought that relationship had no future. Especially now since the Freak is back. I suppose my baby sooner or later will deceive her, too.”

I think not. It looks like he has no further interest in Josefina. And the feeling is mutual. At least from what I've seen.”

Really?”

If you'll excuse me, I'll take this tea up to José Luis.” She turned toward the stairs. Gracie put her cup on the table.

Ah, he's here at home?”

Yes. He fell last night and hurt his foot.”

How awful,” Gracie said, getting up. “I didn't know.” She grabbed the tray. “I'll bring him his tea.”

Rosario would not release the tray.

You don't have to do that. You know I get along very well with your new son-in-law,” Rosario said with a smile worthy of a society matron. The two locked eyes like predator and prey.

Like it or not he's my daughter's husband, Chayito,” Gracie said, as though she were talking to an idiot. “If I could tolerate such an ill-bred bastard as your son, I don't see how I can't do the same with José Luis.”

Rosario laughed ironically. Gracie's insults were hideous, but she was prepared for them.

Of course. I get it. Now he's the heir to a million. You must have worked very hard to arrange this marriage.”

Of course he's also supporting you, Chayito.”

Rosario released the tray. She didn't want this encounter to get any worse than necessary.
You can bring him his tea. But be careful because we don't have a maid and I'd rather not have to mop the floor after you.”

So you are the perpetual servant,” she said nastily to the departing Rosario. “What is with that damned peasant? She must have seen that bastard of a son of hers. Stupid.”

Gracie went up to the master bedroom and greeted José Luis, who didn't want her company any more than Rosario did.

How are you, Gracie?”

Much better than you,” she said. “Rosario made you this tea and gave it to me so I could come up and say hello to you.”

He knew better than to believe that line of crap.

Thanks.”

Gracie put the tray on the nightstand. “Haven't you forgotten something?”

Oh, your monthly check, he said, knowingly. “No, I haven't forgotten it. I'm sure you understand that at the moment I can't get up to fetch it from the study.”

Actually, it's better you don't give it to me here,” Gracie said. “With that servant Rosario able to see me. Why don't you just throw her out of here?”

No. This is Monserrat's house, not mine. Besides, Monserrat and Laurito love her and I've come to appreciate her.”

Ah, how sweet!” she said, insincerely. “You don't have to be a hypocrite with me.”

This is no hypocrisy,” he said, staring at her.

She's not pleased that you married my little princess. She will become your worst enemy when she finds out her son didn't die in that airplane.”

He thought about this for a few seconds. “Gracie, aside from you and me, who else knows that he's in a coma in a Buenos Aires hospital?”

Pedro Medina and Nadia Argüelles. Nobody else.”

Are you sure? Because it's very important that nobody tell my wife.”

No, wait. There is one other. The Freak.”

The Freak? Who is The Freak?”

Josefina Valverde.”

He sighed. “Josefina.” He looked away for a moment.

Medina Mansion: Nadia was astonished. Josefina explained how Gracie had learned that Alejandro was alive and that Alejandro had spotted the wedding. Nadia warned Josefina that Gracie was in cahoots with Pedro Medina. Josefina told her about the phone call set-up and Nadia explained that Pedro was in the room at the time listening to her every word. That was when Nadia learned that Monserrat was alive.

Monserrat's House, Master Bedroom: José Luis had to know the rest.

How did she know?”

She met them in Buenos Aires. That's how she found out and that's why she came back here.”

Monserrat went to her house. She's with her at this minute.”

I don't think she will say anything. I spoke to her before the wedding and I think she will keep her mouth shut. Because she doesn't want to hurt my little girl. At least – ”

At least, what?”

We'll just remain calm. I'll go over to her place and see what's going on.”

Gracie, do you know something you're not telling me?”

She grinned. “Nothing. Get better, José Luis.”

He didn't believe her, but she didn't realize that.

Medina Mansion, Garden: Josefina explained how she first thought it was better to keep it zipped. Of course she regretted it quickly when she realized the consequences. Nadia told her how she forced to lie to Monserrat, but Josefina gave her the latest. “I knew it had to have been good because he didn't come home to sleep.” Nadia was happy to hear that things had probably gone well.

Valverde House, Garden: Alejandro was preparing lunch for Monserrat. He was setting the table with flowers, stemware, and a chilled bottle of orvieto. Victor was pleased for him, but lonely for his Nadia. Alejandro told him he'd need a waiter. They joked, as was right between two old friends who had seen danger and hard times together.

Medina Mansion, Garden: Nadia asked about Victor. Josefina explained how much he missed her and little Victoria. She had a letter from him for her. Nadia became excited and begged her to read it. She took it out of her purse and read it to her.

Nadia, my love, I am dying to hold you in my arms once again to tell you I love you. How much I miss you. Every day without you is an eternity, to be so close and yet so far from you and Victoria. My loves, my princesses, whom I love with all the force of my being. The one thing that keeps me going is knowing that we will soon be together again. Prepare yourselves because I will do anything for you. I will do whatever it takes to hold you again. I love you more than my life.

Valverde House: Monserrat arrived and hugged Victor. She exclaimed over how adorable his daughter was and that she was alright for now. He was to remain calm. She promised her help and asked about Alejandro. Victor played the maître d' and escorted her to the garden. She rushed into Alejandro's arms and they kissed passionately before exchanging even one word.

Note:
With apologies to all, but I'm having computer issues again.  Gloria will supply bullet points for the rest.

Comments:
I got a phone call that is still ongoing. If I can complete this I will, but Gloria will provide bullet points for the last ten minutes.

Sorry about this, but my computer is misbehaving again.

Rosario leaves to pick up Laurito and runs into Graceless. She asks how it felt seeing her bastard son again. She knows Josefina took her to see him. He promised to leave town and was hoping he would take her with him. Her bastard son lied to her and is still hanging around town. Rosario warns Grace less to never call her son a bastard again. Graceless says she just calling it as she sees it which earns her a well deserved b!tchslap from Rosario. Graceless gives her the evil eye.

Montes finds out from Ale that Graceless knows he's alive and well. Montes warns him that her mom will denounce him to the authorities if she finds out he's still hanging around. Because of her, you were labeled an assassin. She told the judge that on Bennie's dealth bed, he confessed one of his workers was poisoning him.

Graceless tells Rosario to never lay a hand on her again. Rosario dares her to slap her back but warns her that she learned to defend herself in prison. Graceless starts throwing insults at her. But Rosario throws them back in Graceless face. Graceless says Rosario will be sorry for what she did but Rosario isn't fazed. You will regret it if you hurt my son yells Rosario. Graceless threatens to have Ale thrown in jail but Rosario warns not to even think it. She has no idea who she is messing with. She doesn't care if she dies in prison in order to protect her son. You have been warned. Do one thing against him and I will kill you.

Ale doesn't care what happened in the past. The important thing is that they are together. But Montes says they aren't. They are just sharing moments together. Ale says soon they will be and no one will separate them again. He swears it. Montes wants to know what her mom told him. Just lies so I can leave town before you came back. She said you pushed up your wedding date because you were pregnant. I can accept many things but one thing I cannot accept is you being pregnant by another man.

JL is dreaming of a pregnant Montes swinging away on a swing. He dreams that she says she really didn't know what happiness was until he came back into her life. More gushing from her and he asks what name she wants to call the baby. Alejandro she replies. He of course is not happy and suddenly Ale appears. He came back for whats his. JL wakes up.

Why did you return too late asks Montse. If you had arrived 5 mins early, I wouldn't be married to him. He keeps thinking your dead. I almost told him the truth this morning but Rosario stopped me. Ale thinks its better for now if JL doesn't know the truth. He might try to stop them from seeing each other. Montes says JL was just named police chief and wants to prove Ale's innocence. Only because I'm dead. Do you really think he will once he finds out I'm alive? Do you think he will stand aside and let me take you? And another thing, as chief of police, it will be his job to take me to jail and I cannot allow that. Montse doesn't like lying but Ale reminds her that she did it in the past. So you want to seek revenge for all the stuff that happened in the past? Remember last time you wanted to kill each other. Ale cannot stand to have JL in her life and he won't stand to have him in hers. I don't know how this will all end, but I think only if one of us is dead.

Manana: JL confesses to Amelia that he married Montse knowing Ale was still alive and Rosario overhears and Graceless finds Ale and Montse together.

Urban:

Thanks so very much for this stellar recap despite your computer problems. I hope they are resolved quickly.

Gloria:

Thanks so much for the last half of the recap, it is marvelous.

Ay, yi, yi, the deception continues. It's going to be bad for JL for keeping to himself he knew Ale was in a coma in Argentina, and it will be bad for Monse when JL finds out she's been meeting Ale behind JL's back.

Ale has never grown up! Cheese and Crackers! I'm surprised he isn't forbidding Monse to go back to JL, he hates him so much. I don't like what he said about he won't want Monse to have someone else's baby, much less JL's. It's funny how well JL took care of Laurito. It's sad really.

I loved that b*tch slap Rosy gave to Graceless, it's been coming for a long, long time! I liked Rosy warning Graceless off too. About time someone gave Graceless something to think about!

Pobricito JL and that nightmare. It is his greatest fear.

Thanks again Urban and Gloria for such a magnificent recap under trying circumstances!

Urban A,
Thanks for the magnificent recap, and kudos to Gloria for recapping the last part of our story tonight. I know what it's like to have technical problems. I sat down to watch Robo a while ago only to find that my DVR had recorded BLACK! Seriously?!? Thank goodness for CarayCaray. I really needed you guys today. So once again, GRACIAS!

I was able to find a few scenes online. One that I found was the cat fight between Rosario and Gracie. WOW! You go Rosie! Loved that SLAP! I was so glad that Rosario stood up to Gracie. And I loved it when Rosie told her that she learned a thing or two while in prison. Gracie better watch her back. I am just relieved that finally one of the good guys won. I think I even saw a bit of fear in Gracie's eyes. NEXT!

Is Montse really going to be preggers by JL? Is that the lame route the writers took? I thought that maybe they would wait for the possibility that the baby daddy could be Ale. Maybe Ale is the father. Maybe he has super sperm, and Montse felt the beginnings of the pregnancy the day after. One can dream, right?

Ale was right when he told Montse that either he or JL would end up dead at the end of the story. I know Montse didn't want to hear it, but it is something that a lot of us have been thinking. (No spoiler, but most likely JL, because SR is the protagonist) Neither one can stand the other. This love triangle will end in tragedy. JL will not walk away from Montse, no matter what. JL is not going to help Ale clear his name. I think he'd rather have Ale in jail, even though Montse will hate him for it.

Was Dimi jealous when he saw Fina and Adolfo together? I think he was. No matter how hard he tries, Dimi has to come to the realization that he still has feelings for Fina. And vice versa. Something needs to happen to bring them together, I just don't know what. I can't wait to find out.

Off to bed...hasta pronto!

I agree that Dimitrio is jealous of Adolfo. This isn't going to be easy for him and doesn't he also have a talent for getting into romantic minefields.

Gracie doesn't want either of her children to be happy; she only wants Monserrat as merchandise and Dimitrio as an accomplice and her permanent baby. She is going to end up alone at the end, whether in prison or some other way.

The mention of the check being in the study and Gracie suggesting that he hand it to her elsewhere makes me think that Monserrat will discover it and there will be a confrontation about it. Now that she knows her mother is responsible for Alejandro being accused of murder she will be all the more furious when she finds out that JL has given her any dinero at all. There was no scene where she told him not to give her anything (as there was with Alejandro) and now there is the potential for so much worse to come.

While I don't like that Alejandro is so freaked about the idea of Monse being pregnant by JL, he's still at too much of an original disadvantage. The only female in his youthful environment was Maria. Not exactly a good example of womanhood. No mother or loving aunt to teach him about life.

And there is the Infernal Suegra. I don't think he's had enough time to absorb that Monse and Dimitrio have mostly estranged themselves from her.

He will not like having either Fabiola or Maria as a half-sister and that's not about the money.

Is anyone hoping for a full-blown catfight between Graceless and Rosario?

UA, I am hoping for a full-blown catfight between Graceless and Rosario. Or pretty much anyone in Aguazul who wants to kick Gracie's stinky butt. I'll put my money on Rosie.

And thanks for reminding us about Ale's lack of female figure while he was growing up. It makes a difference when Ale chats with his mother. He's going to need her advice.

Must sleep...hasta pronto!

Thank you Urban, for your beautiful recap and to Gloria for completing it.
Love the way you describe Gracie, "Rosario laughed ironically. Gracie's insults were hideous, but she was prepared for them." It's amazing the way you rip these out so fast and they are still so elegant, in spite of technical difficulties beyond your control.

I'm waiting for Monse to discover how much information JL suppressed in order to get her to marry him AND that he's paying Gracie money so she will stop tippy-toeing around JL's feelings and tell him what is what.

Ale doesn't know Monse is pregnant yet, if she is and if he finds out, what can he do? He still wants Monse.

Again, I wanted to pick up the Tiki Torches on the Patio and heave it at the TV. Ale doesn't interrupt Monse's wedding, Fina doesn't tell her, and persuades Ale not to tell her, everyone lets her go on the honeymoon, and now Ale says he couldn't bear the thought of her having another man's child!
I agree with Aunty that the story is lame. Sigh. But it's june, so solo dos mas meses, sí?

Urban, both Maria and Fab could be half sisters, that Ben got around.

I have discovered that men who have had good mothers and sisters know women far better than those who were deprived of this. It's always sad to see people struggle with this.

Urban Anthropologist, your conversation translations were sublime. Rich and fragrant recap. You write so beautifully. Thanks for soldiering on despite your computer issues.

Gloria, your straightforward, honest head on approach is refreshing and invigorating: "Graceless says she just calling it as she sees it which earns her a well deserved b!tchslap from Rosario". I always enjoy your recaps!

UA, "He watched her with a hint of suspicion", "Have a good day, love,” said Gracie with about as much sincerity as a hyena. When her daughter was out the door she turned to her hated maternal rival" and "The two locked eyes like predator and prey" were all marvelous.

AuntyAnn and UA, I do think Dim was jealous! Both he and Fina are playing it cool but I think the kiss got under his skin!

Madelaine, wasn't Rosie's slapping Graciela perfect? Not that I condone it as a matter of course, but Gracie so deserved it. I think Rosie had the upper hand in that little convo, is that a first?

Enjoyed Nadia and Victoria at the piano.

I agree wholeheartedly and enthusiastically that a strong family network and support system is essential and the importance of kind, loving women role models cannot be underestimated. However, there are times when the mind and heart need to reach out in love and support, unselfishly and without boarders, of their own accord. Gazing into the eyes of the woman you love and uttering "I can accept many things but one thing I cannot accept is you being pregnant by another" was heartbreaking. Ale should have embraced Monse and told her he would love her and her child without reservations. There are times we need to love unconditionally without reservations and Ale had the perfect opportunity to do so here.

"José Luis went back to bed and Monserrat leaned over to kiss him. On the forehead". Oh dear. I fear any passionate kisses are long gone. Kissing your new husband on the forehead speaks volumes! Wait till Monse finds out JL knew Ale was alive. As you noted Emarie, all bets will be off!

Splendid recaps and excellent comments this morning!

Diana

Thank you Urban and Gloria for the great recap.

The only character I am liking these days is Rosario. (Laurito and Victoria are also okay) Absolutely loved the slap and her telling Graciela that she learned how to defend herself in jail, etc.

I am so sick of Alejandro.nhe is such a big baby. His comment about not being able to stand Montse having a baby with another man was repulsive. What does he think JL and Montse were doing on their honeymoon and what that could lead to?

Montse better get a pregnancy and make a few decisions. She does have a husband waiting at home.

Jarifa

"Pregnancy test"

In the US, Monse would have two options for testing for pregnancy this early; there is a home test for 5 days after conception, or go to a medical office and have a serum HCG quantitative test. I'm guessing they don't have this is AguaAzul?
Naw. They're going to make us wait.

Alejandro didn't get there in time to stop the wedding. Had he entered the church enclosure as the bride, groom, etc, were exiting, he would have instantly been arrested and Pedro would have had him attacked in prison.

Josefina could have stopped the wedding before the day, but Gracie cowed and tricked her out of doing so. She could also have prevented the honeymoon but didn't.

Gracie gets off on other people's misery. There is more going on with her than naked greed. She wants to take the money, leave the victims in abject misery, and laugh all the way to Van Cleef and Arpels. She's a vampire. And if I keep going in this vein I will use up stuff for a future recap entry.

UA/Gloria--you are such a wonderful tandem team putting this recap together. I missed chunks of the episode last night. This was perfect to fill in the blanks--whole dialog and all. Wonderful.

I did get to see Ale being his usual he-man, macho self. And it isn't attractive. Honestly, if TN writers had a clue and brought their story telling to the 21st century, Monse would be telling both these jerks to go ahead, take a hike, duel it out, but leave her alone. She'll raise her kids alone thank you. Why can't either of these guys ever show regret, learn from mistakes...something. The one note song of jealousy and "one of us has to die" is just...stupido!And frankly boring to have to keep listening to. And I agree AuntyAnn, this whole preggers plot line is the worse and unnecessary.

I honestly have never thought that Dim fell out of love for Fina, but I firmly believe he thinks she fell out of love for him and is trying to deal with it and move on. That's why it hurts when he sees her. And seeing her fall for Adolfo, who he knows is not the man Fina thinks he is, has to be a real stab to the heart. No spoiler, but somehow I think he's going to be her rescuer when something goes wrong for her with either Adolfo or Pedro.

And in this corner... Rosie the Right Hook against Gracie the Grump. Awesome. This is going to get ugly. ( Heaven help us...these writers would not do something to Rosie would they? I'm starting to worry for her.)

Dear Urban Anthropologist and Gloria,

Thanks so much for an amazing recap to both of you!

Best to you both and to all,
Julia R.

The pregnancy storyline is definitely passe. However, I hate the idea of women raising children without men. That is just as bad for a child's emotional development as not having a mother. It tells children of both sexes that men are expendable, which is only the case with criminals.

What remains to be seen now is whether JL will end up becoming one because of EZ and because of his own rage.

Emarie, you are so right. Any woman in the 21st century would get in the car and drive to wherever to a drugstore and buy a pregnancy test like right now, today.

Jarifa

I'm signing off right now and packing up the computer. I hope it doesn't have to sit with the Geeks for more than a couple of days because I hate missing the episodes and your comments. If I don't get it back by Friday I will e-mail the team from the library.

Thanks so much to both of you, Urban and Gloria. Despite the challenges of treacherous computers and jumping in at the last minute, you put together a wonderful and complete fix for all of us Robó junkies.

I did so love the wrath of Rosario!

It sounds like things will get even more interesting tonight.

Testing at Best Buy; hope there is a good update later.

Urban and Gloria - Thanks so much for double-teaming. Simply terrific recapping. Urban, good luck with the testing.

I'm not clear on what Ale wants Monse to do. When JL was a fugitive, he wanted Monse to leave pronto with him. How long does Ale expect Monse to fake it with JL?

However, there are times when the mind and heart need to reach out in love and support, unselfishly and without boarders, of their own accord. Gazing into the eyes of the woman you love and uttering "I can accept many things but one thing I cannot accept is you being pregnant by another" was heartbreaking.

Diana, ITA. Ale is too full of himself to see what all this is doing to Monse.

I laughed twice last night. When Graciela was going on about the fenómena and JL asked her "Who is the fenómena?. Then, in JL's nightmare, Ale is wearing a blue shirt. JL knows his enemy's style well.

So Ale could kill JL? The guy that served seven years in prison for Ale and whom Laurito adores. Oh, and who broke out of prison to help Ale save his wife. And Ale feels all this hatred because Monse can’t get away from JL? Please. If she’s pregnant, JL would have a father’s right of course, but Monse is free to kick JL out of her house anytime.

Adolfo and Fina's kiss was divine. That was the first time I really felt Fina was into it. More please. Though I’m sure she’s destined for Dim.

This will seem out of the blue. I am enjoying everyones comments. I have a question. Is anyone wondering why Benjamin would suddenly cut Fabiola out if the will??? I can understand that during his last moments he acknowledges Ale as his son. Instead of adding him as a second heir, he removed Fabiola altogether and just named Ale. Why??? Imho, he had a reason from removing her altogether. Any thoughts anybody?? Thx. Leticia

Niecie, good comment about Ale's blue shirt in JL's nightmare. I had not noticed.

Novella Lover, I think that Ben was just a mean sob and we will never know.

Jarifa

I believe it was mentioned by someone (but can't remember who - maybe Ben's attorney or Amelia) that Ben learned about Fabiola's drunken escapades and money-wasting and decided to disinherit her.

Hi Leticia! Welcome!

Why did Ben cut Fab out of his will?

I recall the late lic. Cervera talking about Ben's disappointment with the way Fab had turned out. He had been very generous with her all her life, and she wasted every penny he gave her and squandered all the educational opportunities that came her way. As Cervera put it, Fabiola had already received (and blown) her inheritance during Ben's lifetime.

It was during Fab's latest stint in rehab, when Ben realized his death was imminent. He knew he had another child -- Alejandro -- to whom he had given nothing; and yet that child had become a good and self-sufficient man. That was when he decided to change his will in favor of Alejandro.

Niece:

Oh, I hope we don't have a duel redeux, that would be too much! Ale needs to come to grips and deal with what life has dished him. He really ought to be trying to prove he didn't do all of these things, and I am with AuntyAnn, where is the Padre?

I don't think there will be a smack down with Graceless and Rosy, cause Rosy has too much class for that. Slapping yes, beating up, no, unless Graceless were to hold Ale at gunpoint, or called the cops and I think then, all bets would be off ; )

Oh and one more thing! Graceless has a nerve doesn't she? Calling Rosy a campesina, well pot meet kettle. Graceless' whole life has been made out of whole cloth, and she's lied so much, she is believing the lies about her origins. I want to see her either in the prison, or working in a hacienda as a maid, now that would be divine!

Still playing catch up. Thank you all for the recaps.

So after being out of prison for 8-9 years and being a timid mouse for most of those years, Ros is now threatening that she learned a thing or two in prison? Seriously? So many times, before Ale disappeared, she could have played the prison card and didn’t.

Urban: my second husband (now ex) is great with women—and not in a bad way. For the early part of his life, he was raised by his mother, grandmother, aunts, etc., with enough uncles, older male cousins, etc. to not make him a mama’s boy. He is very loving and respectful to women.

I would have thought that after seven years without a man, Mons would be more independent.

Nanette

Hi, all. Back from the Geeks. This thing downloaded an update this morning before I packed it up and took it out. Once there it ran properly.

There's no accounting for this.

There was something else about Fabiola that Cevera was sworn to secrecy about. We're not likely to find out what that is unless it's a DNA mismatch.

Thanks Novella Maven for your warm welcome and noticing it was my first time.
I really appreciate your straight answer, that had just been bothering me. Now I can move past that. I am so hooked on this show that Zi used to hate it when it finished. Now that I found your blog, iI read that till I fall asleep. I know, I got it bad. I admire everyone's sense if humor and attention to detail. Love it!

Thanks you two for the great recap!!

Ohh Ale why can't you say something to make me like you!? LOL

I must admit I did like the facial expression of Montse after hearing Ale's awful comment about her being pregnant. She looked confused and disgusted at the same time. I almost thought she might get up and leave. I'm sure she'll have to reign it back in based off of what the writers want next but kudos to Boyer for injecting a bit of what the rest of us feel.

My pleasure, Novella lover! You sound like one of us! I hope you feel comfortable coming back here with questions and comments any time.

Urban, so glad you have your computer problems under control. You had us all worried!

Nanette, I actually think that Montse has been remarkably independent. She recovered from her life-threatening injury, adjusted to the loss of her beloved husband, moved away from her hideous mother, started a successful business, raised her son with the help of his loving grandmother and uncle (Rosario and Dimitrio), and even managed to take care of Dominga and Macario by giving them jobs they love.

If Graciela and JL hadn't double-teamed her with the magical appearance of the exonerating phone video and JL's courtship of Laurito, she would probably never have agreed to marry JL. She has never said she loves him. He says: "I love you." She says: "I know." Huh?

Alejandro is her true love. I'm not surprised at her dropping her guard and acting rashly. [Especially after seeing him in that Panama hat :D]

Carvivlie,

I actually give Alejandro a pass for that blunder about another man's child. He was reacting to Graciela's lie that Montserrat was already pregnant when she got married. He thought he had just dodged a bullet. She was reacting to the possibility that she might NOW be pregnant and all that would imply.

Novela Maven: I think its funny how worried everyone was about Montse possibly sleeping with JL before getting married and yet Dim moves in with Monica and no one cares a lick.

I think there is also a big difference between being fatherly to an existing child and watching a pregnancy in progress. Even when it's a man's own child some men are just ridiculous about it. Like Refugio.

And Gracie needs to burn in hell.

Thanks for your recap UA and Gloria. Glad to hear your computer is back and running well UA.

Welcome, Novella lover please stop by again.

NM you tickled me so much last week with your Ale's fineness is enough for you but he's latest antic though fueled by Gracie's lie was still creepy, bad Ale stuff. He's so hateful and ready to kill JL its villain worthy (like Pedro feels about him).

And thanks Carlos and Mads for your Sunday posts.

Novela lover, welcome. How long are you watching these operatic tales?

Karen,

I didn't hear Alejandro threaten to kill José Luis. He did say their rivalry would continue as long as they were both alive. Perhaps he imagined them still butting antlers in the Shady Grove Home.

Now Rosario, on the other hand, clearly threatened to KILL Graciela if she hurt her boy in any way. And I, for one, was standing on my couch, cheering her on!

Carvivlie,
You are so right. No one cares if Dimitrio lives with Mónica...well, no one but Refugio. And now that Graciela has gotten wind of the news, we can see how she'll react.

But sure, in general, this is a world where manly men sow wild oats -- the more, the manlier -- and less than chaste women are whores.

Thanks UA. I too am happy and relieved that your computer woes seem to be corrected. What a great intro picture. What a mood it evokes. Good job and thanks to Gloria for picking up the reins and finishing the episode off.

Welcome Novela lover. How delightful that you've elected to join in on the discussion. I look forward to your frequent participation.

Alejandro was particularly annoying again last night. He really didn't have to go on and on when he learned that JL was hearing Montserrat's side of that phone conversation. It never occurred to me that one can mark his territory via phone. And how brilliant was it to arrange for that outdoor breakfast? I wonder who might show up.

Poor Graciela, she suddenly seemed a little smaller after that slap.

Since Montse's so adept at lying and since she's just a little bit pregnant, maybe she should try to pass this baby off as Ale's. Of course it might be difficult to explain when the kid is born with a five o'clock shadow, a hairy back, and whines instead of crying.

Carlos

NovelaMaven,
I so agree with the pass you gave to Ale. I too think that he was reacting to what Gracie told him. He is also thinking that it is highly unlikely that Montse would have sex with JL. He is not thinking that Montse could have gotten pregnant so quickly during the honeymoon. Knowing Montse's luck, she got pregnant on the first night. After all, she hadn't had sex in 7 years. I was really hoping for my earlier scenario where Ale and his "super sperm" impregnated Montse. He's gotta have super powers. Remember how quickly he got out of that bed all by himself and ran through the streets of Buenos Aires after being in a coma for 7 years. Anything is possible in Telenovelaland.

NM, while Ale did not say he would murder JL, his rage and anger along w/his jealousy and selfishness could lead him to murder. And its not like he hasn't tried to kill JL already

To clarify what I said about Ale thinking it highly unlikely that Montse would have sex with JL. I meant that she wouldn't have sex with JL anymore. After knowing that Ale is alive, and after spending the night with him. And from the avances, looks like the cat's out of the bag. And I have to think that if Rosario finds out the truth, she will tell Montse.

Demetrios, you said this late yesterday:

"I highly doubt that Fabs will accept Gracie with open hands after all the evil Gracie has done to other people.

Do you seriously believe that Fabiola gives a fig about the evil that Gracie has done to other people?

Carlos

"maybe she should try to pass this baby off as Ale's. Of course it might be difficult to explain when the kid is born with a five o'clock shadow, a hairy back, and whines instead of crying."

Yeah, Carlos, but on the bright side, the kid won't have any problems latching on.

Anyone else having Guzmancito flashbacks last night as our boy was bragging about his talent for cooking pasta? I was waiting for Nikki to stroll in. Neta.

Urban, just love your writing style for this TN! Dialogue was fantastic!

Gloria, thank you so much for helping Urban. You both made a wonderful team!

Fatima

NM, I had no flashbacks on Guzmancito til I read your comment. I LOL when Vic told Ale that his pasta was burning.

I find it sexy when a man cooks for you. My husband cooked dinner for me this weekend, and did yard work too. All in the same day. I was impressed.

NM; I guess I didn't make myself clear. I meant now. Mons seems to have reverted back to being wishy washy. I agree with what others have said that she should tell both Ale and JL to sod off. She was doing just fine without either one of them for seven years.

Doesn't help that I really can't stand Ale.

I am late to the party. Hub and I went out to dinner after work. However, I did want to say thank you to Urban for recapping despite computer problems and Gloria for taking us to the finishline.

I loved Rosario delivering that slap to Gracie's snarling face . Rosario is a tough mother. She tells Gracie "Stay away from my boy , or I will have to go all jailhouse rock on you. " Rosy has picked up some skilz in prison, but she has kept them discreetly hidden until now. Mama lion will defend her cub. Gracie has been warned. Snap.

It started with Cuerpo de Deseo, to keep my mom company and because I love Andres Garcia and the actor w long hair. "Teresa" was spellbinding. Fell in love w SR. Angelque and him have electrifying chemistry. The best scene, for me, of alll the novelas was at the end of Teresa, when she was down and out, even in all the horrible things she did, when she was on the floor sobbing and SR goes to her and extends his hand. Now that is love. Sorry
I got carried away. Is there a real patio where several commentators go watch novela? What about you? How long and which is best movela and best
Scene?

Carlos, that was hilarious....5 o'clock
Shadow, hairy back and whining!!! Hahaha
Can you picture Ale's face at delivery room? "Lo voy a matar!! A ese desgraciado!%#

Aunty Ann, Ale recovery was not realistic at all. I was disappointed that writers turned him what someone called the Bionic Man. No atrophied muscles, nothing. BUT really am relieved that writers spared us sitting through a long recovery. So I let it go. I consider a trade off.
