TELEMUNDO Y MÁS: THE FRONT PAGE -- El Señor de los Cielos II, En Otra Piel, et cetera, week of June 9, 2014

Is anyone else watching Metástasis?  The first episode of the Colombian version of the remarkable American drama, Breaking Bad,  aired last night on Univisión, Gala, and Unimás.  Tonight, it will be shown only on Unimás at 8pm Central (9pm Eastern) as well as 9pm/10pm.  I'm not sure if they will repeat the first episode in the earlier slot and then show episode 2 in the later time.

On Tuesday, it will settle into a regular 9C/10E slot.

I was very impressed with the quality of the first episode.  I'm not planning on recapping the show, but I might comment on it from time to time, and I hope some other people do too.

Enjoy your week!

This is a bit random but has anyone else notice how Chema has stared at Rutila the two times he has met with Turco this season? Definitely something to keep an eye on and see what develops from it.

Anyways, looking forward to tonight's episode. Interested to see what happens to Turco...

Metástasis

Hi NovelaMaven.

I'm hooked. I loved the premiere of Metástasis. The hour flew by and I was left wanting to watch more. The opening scene was perfect. This series is very well done and very well written.

They are being faithful to the original Breaking Bad except for some small changes. For example, it was a RV instead of a school bus. They had to make this change because RVs aren't common in Colombia.

I'm loving the cast and think they couldn't have picked a better one.

UniMas repeated the premiere episode during the first hour and showed a new episode during the second hour.

I did not see Breaking Bad. I was very impressed with the first episode.

EN OTRA PIEL – LUNES – Part 1

Lorena tries to convince Elena that the CD wasn’t from a ghost. Elena shrieks that it had a note on it with today’s date, a note written in the same ink as that of the note that arrived with the books at Rodrigo’s bookstore. She falls on the floor babbling with shock after opening the safe to show her mother the CD and syringe that are no longer there. She shrieks some more that she was the only one with the combination. She carries on at the top of her lungs, which draws Gerardo into the room. She tells him Mónica Serrano returned for the CD and syringe. That “they” want to drive her crazy. He tells her to calm down before she ruins everything. He says they ought to accept Jorge Larrea’s offer and sell everything. They should take a long vacation and then start another business. Looking shattered, she agrees.

Gerardo wants to call Jorge right away, but Elena says they have to be careful. They need to get rid of their fingerprints that are on the will. He agrees and we see him smile a little triumphant smile over her shoulder.

Mondriana is opening packages that she and Emiliana bought for the party when Gerardo comes in. She tries to get him to leave. He says he’s leaving the house soon and will have enough money to begin a new life with her. He’s going to sell everything. She replies that she already told him she wasn’t going to be involved with someone so full of lies. Gerardo:
“OK. I’m going to speak of a part of my past that I’m not proud of. Yes, for years I lived on rich and mature women who needed love. It’s true. I was a gigolo."

Mondriana tells Gerardo with tremendous scorn that she always knew he was a worthless person. He replies that perhaps he was. But that part of his life is over. Now he’s a different person. She sneers and says that he can’t possibly expect him to believe he made this big change because of his love for her. Gerardo: “No, I have to be honest. It was not for you, but it was the love of a woman who transformed me and made me a better man. It was Mónica Serrano." He says he sincerely fell in love with her and this gave him a new chance in life. She slaps him hard. Mondriana: “Considering what I know about you, I’m not going to fall for you again.”

Gabriel tries to convince Ricardo that Eileen is his best option.

Jennifer calls Gabe and tells him she doesn’t know if she can stick it out at Casa Serrano. She says the house is haunted. Even the German Shepherd gave her a weird look!

EN OTRA PIEL – LUNES – Part 2

Back to Mondriana and Gerardo, he continues with his [I think actually sincere] argument for himself. He says he loved Mónica Serrano with all his heart. She fires back that he fell in love with her money and now he wants to spend it with her. Gerardo replies: “When I met her I didn’t actually need the money. It was her beauty, her sensitivity, and her beautiful soul that attracted me. I felt an amazing sense of peace being with her. I didn’t feel that sense of peace again until you appeared.” Gerardo tells her that she’s incapable of forgiving him. Mondriana says that if one of the women he deceived could forgive him, maybe she could. Gerardo: “What’s so wrong with what I did? I made those women happy. Sure, I got gifts.” Mondriana: “”But what did they feel when you abandoned them?” Gerardo: “No, it wasn’t like that. They knew the bargain. They freely decided to have a relationship with a young man. They knew what they were doing.”

Mondriana: “If you’re being so honest, then answer me this. Did you also tell Mónica Serrano what you’re telling me?” He admits that he did not, but says it was because their time together was brief and intense.

Selma is visiting with the psychic, Luz María [who, sadly, is not Gaetana from El Cuerpo del Deseo.] Nah! This one is very serious. She says she knows why Selma came: for Esteban! She tells Selma that death doesn’t exist. She says people live in another plane when the physical body goes away. She also tells Selma that probably she thinks she’s a charlatan because of Selma’s being a public figure and because of the news about Esteban. LM intuits that Selma’s great pain is because she owes Esteban something and has to resolve this to be at peace. She says she can help. She tells Selma that she knows Selma wants to contact Esteban to see if he’s all right, and she says she can do it.

Eileen shows up at Larrea Wineries to talk with Camila, wearing her cleaning lady uniform. Camila is quite scornful toward her. Eileen throws her an apple. Cami retorts that maybe it’s poisoned. Sourpuss goes on to say that she imagines Eileen is here because Ricardo said she came to see him. Eileen: “No. I saw the two of you together. What do you want with him, Cami?" Sourpuss says this is none of her business. Eileen says that she only wants to play with his feelings. Sourpuss replies that she went to see him because she was worried about him. She doesn’t like seeing him working nights at a job that’s beneath him. Eileen: “Then you went for compassion?” Sourpuss: “I love him.” Eileen: “Then why do you let him work there when you could help?” Sourpuss: “He’s too proud to accept anything.” Eileen: “You don’t have to be obvious about it; you have contacts that could help.” Sourpuss, annoyed: “Why do you criticize me so much? What have you done for him?” Eileen: “Work nights with him. You went once, but I’m there every single night.” Sourpuss: "You want to pretend you’re a better person than me when you’re really eaten up with jealousy!”

Eileen: “You have it backwards. I don’t have to be jealous of you because you only have affection for Ricardo, but on the other hand it kills you when another woman approaches him. But you don’t really want to be with him. You’re like they say: ¡Ni pichas; ni catchas; ni dejas batear! Yay, Eileen!! After Eileen leaves, Cami bites into the apple and says she hates Eileen, but she’s right.

EN OTRA PIEL – LUNES – Part 3

Gerardo asks Mondriana what else he can tell her so she’ll believe him. Mondriana: “Your relationship with Elena. It was she who introduced you to Mónica. Did she know about your 'profession'?" When he doesn’t answer, she asks if this is a part of his past he won’t discuss. Gerardo: “No. I haven’t said anything because I’m surprised how much you know about me!” Mondriana gives her standard reply about Mónica telling her this. Gerardo then tells her that Elena didn’t know about his past. He used her to approach Mónica. He then says that all he wants to know if she’ll give him another chance or if the past will separate them. Before he can answer, Emiliana enters, talking about the surprise party for Elena.

Elena snarls at Lorena when she suggests there are people she knows that could help with a “case of nerves”. Lorena says she loves Elena despite what she’s done. Elena gets right in her face. “Seriously? After I killed your sister and am planning to leave my cousins in the street?" Lorena says that her daughter is what she loves most. Elena replies that then it’s a shame that Lorena is the person she finds most despicable. She says that when she looks at her mother, she only sees an old drunk.

And on to a happier scene. Rodrigo’s bookstore looks wonderful. I’d love to visit and browse the shelves! Ricardo wanders in with his usual long face to spoil the scene. Rod tells him that he doesn’t understand what happened, but, he thanks Mónica Serrano and blesses her wherever she might be for giving him another chance. Ricardo talks with his father about what he heard his mother say about being disappointed he was working as a cleaner. Rodrigo rightly says he doesn’t need his money anymore now that the bookstore is better than before. But Ricardo, who certainly seems to deserve a life with Sourpuss, gets snotty and says he knows they were disappointed with having to keep on supporting him.

Oh no! Carlos and El Pachuco have delivered some pretty young girls, gagged, to the owner of the strip club/brothel. He tells the guy he was very careful and that no one will bother him. The guy shoots back that how does he know they aren’t looking for them in México and Interpol will be on his trail. Then he offers $20,000 each. Carlos laughs and says they’d earn him twice that much in a month’s time. The owner of the club: “Take it or leave it!” Carlos looks grim.

Ernesto asks Camila out to dinner but she says there’s a surprise party at the house for Elena and, of course he’s invited. He kind of lurks in the lobby while Cami asks the office assistant for copies of Raúl Camacho’s reports. When she’s told there are none, she asks what the heck the guy is doing there then? Ernesto tries to calm her, saying she should let Gerardo handle it.

Valeria pouts at the dinner table at the pensión about Diego, while Lupe and Maite try to cheer her up. When Diego comes to the table, she leaves. He tells Lupe he’s probably leaving soon. There’s nothing to keep him here.

EN OTRA PIEL – LUNES – Part 4

Mondriana, Emiliana, Marta,Vicki, Susana, and Jennifer are planning the birthday menu. Vicki and Marta are surprised that Mondriana picked all Elena’s favorites, even the wine. As usual, they’re suspicious. As usual, she says that Mónica told her these things.

Ernesto has brought Elena a tiny spy camera. She’s delighted and says she’ll catch the person now. He spills the beans that Cami is asking questions about Raúl. “If she finds out he’s a zángano (lazy rogue), there will be an uproar." Gerardo enters then, telling the two of them about following Carlos to a strip club where he spent the entire night trying to arrange some business with the owner. Elena asks what kind of business. Gerardo says he doesn’t know, but maybe Ernesto does! He says they’ve paid a private investigator a small fortune for nothing. At this, Ernesto wimps out and excuses himself.

We see Mondriana cooking something up in the secret room. She has either old school cassettes for music or video cassettes in her hand.

Camila comes to see Jorge to ask for help finding work for Ricardo. [NOW she helps! After Eileen reminded her she could have tried this a long time ago!] Sourpuss says Ricardo is the elder son of Marta. He got great grades at Cal and now has a nothing job. It kills her to see him doing that. Jorge, no slouch, asks what she feels for Ricardo. She admits she loves him, but it’s over. Jorge agrees to help, and Camila insists that he should not know it was her who helped.

Elena tells Gerardo it won’t be easy to get rid of Camacho. But they’ll have to wait to see what the investigator comes up with. Geardo: “Are you sure you don’t know more? When I entered the two of you looked like accomplices and were nervous when I brought up Camacho.” She manages to get him off this subject. He then suggests a vacation in the Greek Islands. Elena says she’d adore this. But, first, she has to trap the person who’s been playing with her. And, by the way, the business will be sold when she says so and not before.

We see Elena looking through her closet for something. She jerks back suddenly with a little cry. We see that she’s stuck herself with the syringe with the red ribbon on it that is in the bottom of her closet!

En Otra Piel
Wow! What a marvellous recap, novelera! I don't know how you manage to include so much important detail and write the recap so quickly and with such style. But I'm certaily grateful that you do.

Many thanks, too, for including zángano and the expression Ni pichas, ni cachas, ni dejas batear. Both were new to me.

Yes, I think the two sourpusses look as if they'll be together forever, eventually populating the world with just what it needs: more sourpusses. Blech.

I'm astonished that everyone continues to buy Mondri's much-overused excuse "Monica told me all about this." Last night was a good example: Monica told her all about Elena's favorite foods and wine? Yeah, right.

CIELOS:

I missed the first 20 minutes of the show, but here's some of what I DID see:

-AC has Turco tied up, and is torturing him to find out where the money is. Turco says if you kill me, you'll never know, and if I tell, you'll kill me, so release me and you'll get your money. AC doesn't like this, gets disgusted, and just kills him anyway! (with Monica watching) No money, Charcorta's mad, but AC says it was worth it.

-Chacorta kicks out Matilda, since she's starting a business w/o his permission, and won't tell where she got the seed money. He also beats her. What a guy.

-Ignacio finds out Leo is in jail, and wants to help her. He can get her out of the country. But she wants to prove that AC is alive, and wants his help in that.

-Elsa is turning into a very enigmatic character. She's sexing it up with Ignacio's father, Max, to make sure Leo does NOT get out. I really like her role her, much more satisfying than the spoiled and whiny role she played in La Patrona.

-And we're ready for Cabo and Tijeras to blow up President Benitez and the US Drug Czar. Cabo tells Tijeras this party with girls is like a farewell, maybe Chema is going to kill us right after we blow up the President. But I have a surprise for Chema - dynamite in his car!!

Cielos

thanks Hombre!

the show starts with Aurelio running down Turco, killing the guy with him and having Turco's getaway driver take them to the safe house/mansion, where he thanks the driver with a bullet to the head, and after killing Turco he's probably ready for some hot sex, as Monica tenderly redresses the knife wound she gave him, if only Chacorta hadn't called, who's not happy about anything lately, I think he told Alba that he is going to kill Heriberto, so Alba goes to see him.

I think Elsa offered Lucila a job on her staff for a job well done, but there may have been some issues about loyalty.

Leo and Ponte are taken cuffed to police headquarters where Lucila brings them snacks but Leo gets into her face for betraying them, which she doesn't confirm, and Ponte isn't so sure, I think he is soft on her.

and DEA Andrews puts Chema on the phone with Elsa, did she make a crack about his accent?

En Otra Piel

that was a fantastic recap novelera!

Geraldo sure is good, like Monica, I have to go back and remember what he is really like, like when Elena told him she killed Monica, it was more like, darn, why did you do that, as it complicates things, but could it be that he really did love Monica and now senses that Adriana is Monica, wobble, wobble, because Monica is surely going to need some help, and so far she has not linked up with Jorge, Jennifer, or Diego.

and if Elena puts that camera in the office and sees Monica going into the secret room....

hmm, I'm not really having a problem with a college guy like Ricardo having a real job, (is this the first time he has ever worked?) and a bit of an insult to the dedicated people that do that kind of work. I like Eileen's take on things much better.

Cielos
Thanks, Hombre and deb, for your recap(s) of Cielos. I think that Ignacio and his father have a chat in which Ignacio asks him to speak with Elsa about helping Leo. He thinks his father will have some influence with her since they (his father and Elsa) apparently had a relationship at one time. As we saw later in the episode, that apparently didn't count for much. It's not yet clear to me whether Elsa is thoroughly corrupt. At the moment, I'm not liking her much.

I noticed one thing in Elsa's discussion with Lucila that puzzled me. She offers Lucila a job on her staff, and tells her something like "you'll learn a lot of new things" as she puts her hand over Lucila's. My first thought is that Elsa has some kind of lesbian relationship in mind, but her past doings with Ignacio's father throws that into doubt, though it doesn't rule it out. Did anyone else have similar thoughts about that scene between Elsa and Lucila?

Cielos

Juanita, I got the same vibes in that scene about Elsa and Lucila. Definitely something to keep an eye on

-VRO

EN OTRA PIEL - Sort of, but not really

Seeing those girls with gags in their mouths reminded me of hearing an interview over the radio with Jeremy Affeldt, a relief pitcher with my much-loved San Francisco Giants.

Jeremy and his wife are very much involved with an organization called Not For Sale. He donates funds for each strikeout and has gotten lots of other athletes involved.

The foundation works toward ending slavery in its many forms. They estimate 27 million people in the world are enslaved. The foundation runs a shelter in Thailand that houses and educates 127 former child sex slaves. They focus on all kinds of enslavement: forced labor, sexual slavery, forced begging and kidnapping to be used as child soldiers.

I'm certainly glad an organization like Not For Sale is taking on this important work.

Cielos

I agree Elsa's attitude toward Lusila had some lesbian vibes. Elsa wouldn't be talking to Chema unless she was dirty.

As mentioned earlier, I also got creeped out when Chema saw Rutila in the window & so did she. He said sth like "oh the innocence".

Beating women is horrible, beating Matilde, not so much. Can't imagine her wanting to take the baby, she never seems to want anything to do with him.

Cabo & Tijeras crack me up, When Cabo says it feels like a farewell party, Tijeras says he is already feeling the daisies. Cabo put explosives in Chema's car. Chema wants them to make a device for him.

En Otra Piel

Thanks, Novelera, for a thorough recap.

I don't know what happened in the original but the psychic seems suspect to me...which is probably how one should feel about psychics.

And why are the writers now focusing on the fingerprints on the will. They should have done that a long time ago.

If Lorena really loved her daughter she'd teach her a valuable lesson by turning her in. All she's doing now is taking unnecessary emotional and physical abuse while watching Elena spiral downward and abuse or plot against innocent people. At this point she needs to redeem herself as much as Elena.

Eileen was a little annoying last night...too pushy. I have a strange suspicion that Carlos will capture some of these girls and it'll be up to the others to save them. So hopefully Eileen and Sourpuss will be friends in the end.

Metástasis

I'm hooked too, Mauricio! Even though, like Bmc, I hadn't seen Breaking Bad when it first aired, I went back and kind of binge-watched the first few episodes to see what all the fuss was about. I thought the original was amazing and wondered if this version would be able to measure up. Does it ever!

It's fun to keep track of the 'cultural translations' -- the school bus vs the RV, as you mentioned, how Jose MIguel's house in Bogotá compares to Jesse's in Albuquerque, how the gringo assumption that the meth-cookers are Latinos translates to the Colombian assumption that they are either Mexicans or Americans.

I also like the way the writers have played with the names, even to the point of calling Walter's wife 'Cielo' (vs. Skyler in the English language version).

There is just something so compelling in the central conceit of this story -- what happens to a good man who has always played by the rules when life seems to pull the rug out from under him. He comes to question all his assumptions about what is moral and what he himself if capable of doing.

I may not comment every day, but I will certainly try to watch every day, if I can.

PEIL

Novelera- Thanks for that saying of Eileen's. Saves me from having to go back and watch the recording. I used to think she was annoying, but she's grown on me. I like her don't-give-a-crap attitude about what people (like Camila) think of her. But I can see a friendship growing here, in an odd couple sort of way.

But what's with the red ribbon on the syringe? It was there when Mondriana found it and it seems like a lot of trouble to go. But then, Elena is nuts, so maybe that's why.

CIELOS

I think last week Elsa said something to Andrews about his really being Mexican. She's not buying the "American DEA guy with a bad accent" act. If it is an act, it's a good one.

Dona Alba. Her son says he's gong to kill her grandson and she still wants to give Ximena grief about the mistakes she made (which I assume she meant leaving to the US with Turco). The only mistake was to stay as long as she did with Aurelio. I hope tonight Ximena gets to give Alba a verbal smack on the head.

But at least we still have Cabo y Tijeras, best couple in all of telenovelaland.

Kelly

En Otra Piel:
Thanks for the really great recap, Novelera.

Thanks also for the info on Not fo Sale. It sounds like a great organization.

The fingerprints on the will -really?? Why would it be suspicious that Elena's or Gerardo's fingerprints were on Monica's will? She might have showed it to them. And why are they worrying abou it now? I'm sure lots of people have handled the will since it was admitted to probate.

I like Eileen a lot. As I've said before, she is much too good for a drip like Ricardo.

I wonder where Elena will put the camera. If it's in the study, then Monica is in trouble but it's a big house. She could put it in her bedroom or where the piano is.

Kelly- Monica didn't find the syringe that Elena used to kill her, she put a bow on another syringe just like it and left it for Elena to find.

Escrito-

Why is Beatrice having her eggs harvested for an in vitro fertilization procedure? You only need to do that if the woman can't conceive naturally. If you've got sperm, insemination just needs the medical equivalent of a turkey baster. The same thing happened in El Clon.

Cielos
Is Elsa talking to Chema thinking he's a DEA agent? If so, I'll have to rethink Elsa. That could mean Andrews? (bald head) is setting her up.

EN OTRA PIEL

When Elena talked about cameras before, Ernesto told her putting them all over the house would alert whoever was doing these things and they'd quit.

I seem to remember she then was leaning toward putting it where the grand piano is. If that's where she puts it, then Mondriana will be fine.

EN OTRA PIEL

I though Mondriana found the syringe in the safe when she pulled out the cd. But it's weird that Elena would keep that, and put a bow on it. My memory might be as good as Mondriana's was. I hope I'm not really dead and in someone else's body. And if I am, then I wish I had gone into someone more exciting, like Eileen! She could have fun anywhere, even talking to Sourpuss.

Kelly

En Otra Piel,

Kelly- (or should we call you Eileen now),

Monica put together a cd of hers and (I think) that syringe, both with red ribbons on them, and left them giftwrapped in the office as a birthday present for Elena, who freaked when she opened it, and put them both in the safe, where Monica later got them back.

also Monica had written happy birthday to her (with the date) on the cd in the same red ink as the note to Rodrigo.

say- do you guys all have special glasses you wear to read these passwords?

Escrito

Jean: Good question. Brazilian TN writers seem to be fascinated by reproductive technology. My novela beanie was tightened quite a few episodes ago.

CIELOS:

I think Elsa didn't know Chema was Andrews' boss. She meets with him, and knows who he is now. She plays it cool. To me, she's not involved with the druglords, but is okay with maintaining the status quo. But when Chema hints that the President and the US Drug Czar will be killed, Elsa is opposed to this. Chema says it's too late.

Bert seems to be on team Ximena these days. He's keeping an eye on the kids at their school. Xime wanted to teach at the church school, but the Padre said the congregation would balk at the wife of a druglord teaching. However, she can work in the accounting department, with grants and such.

Monica has a surprise delivered to Irina in a box. Turco's head! Irina is mortified, and is also forced to open her safe and give Monica money and jewels. I don't see what Monica did for Irina, she was supposed to protect Irina from AC, but Monica is WITH AC now, so Irina's in deep doo doo.

AC wants to develop Colombian connections, restart his drug business by going there. He tells Chacorta that Mati can help. Mati has been kicked out by Chacorta, calls Chema, I'll be your babe, I want the big suitcase! Not so fast, he says, I want you on the inside. So Mati has to swallow her pride and try to be nice to Chacorta and get back in with him. She tries, even telling him Carlitos is his baby (not Bert's), but so far, Chacorta is hanging tough.

Lai can also help with the Colombian thing, AC wants her help, she insists she wants his body, even though he says he's now promised to Monica, who can be dangerous.

So tonight we'll find out if Cabo and Tijeras blow up the Pres.

CIELOS:

Oh, and Leonor is transferred to a prison, and the nice ladies drag her into the shower. Uh oh! Ignacio is working on getting her released. He's also in looove with her!

Cielos
Thanks very much, Hombre, for your very helpful comments re last night's Cielos episode. They cleared up several questions I had, especially about what Chema said to Mati when she told him she'd changed her mind and wanted the big suitcase.

One thing that's still not clear to me is why Irina gave Monica all that money and jewelry. I also didn't realize that it was Monica who arranged for Turco's head to be delivered to Irina. I was surprised at how composed Monica was when Irina opened the box; now I guess I see why she wasn't the least bit surprised or troubled or grossed out.

The whole business between Aurelio and Monica has me tightening my beanie until my head hurts. Yes, I know they had strong feelings for each other in Cielos 1, but I would have thought that the only thing Monica would want to do to Aurelio after he tried rather brutally to kill her would be to kill him, preferably by stabbing him. Well, she did stab him, but apparently she deliberately stabbed him in a way that wouldn't kill him?? Indeed, in a way that had him up and about and able to fight with Chacorta in no time at all.

I've got to find a better beanie.

EN OTRA PIEL

Elena's birthday party was a bust. It turns out what Mondriana found in the secret room were some small videos. After Elena comes down to the party, practically dragged by Camila, we hear Mónica Serrano singing Las Mañanitas, the traditional Mexican birthday song. It's coming from a video of an early birthday of Elena, with other kids, probably Camila and some others. We see her opening the infamous doll that she subsequently burns. We hear Mónica saying it's from her mother and see her face change. Elena goes completely nuts, confusing those at the party not in the know.

It's later revealed that Emiliana set up the video to please Elena, but we know who put her up to it.

Valeria tells Diego she'll be content with being his friend, but please don't go back to México. [As if!]

Carlos and El Pachuco at the nudie bar grouse about the bad deal the gringo gave them. Carlos decides he can save money by just kidnapping girls from the barrio who are undocumented. He mentions enlisting the help of a gang [Rottweiler's gang for sure].

After Elena calms down, the birthday party goes forward. Gerardo announces he's going to accept Jorge's offer to buy Larrea Wineries. Elena is cowed by all Mondriana's actions, but I don't think she'll be happy.

Ernesto installs the little spy camera, but it's not in the office. I suppose it could still capture Mondriana on her way there. We'll have to see.

Eileen quits her job at the hospital because she got a "casting". I guess this means she landed a role and it wasn't just a casting call.

That's about all I remember.

Cielos

thanks so much Hombre!

so did mama Alba give the boys a big gun so they could settle their argument like men, but didn't load it any more than she shot, and Chacorta grabbing his pistol almost undid that plan. (who rents to these guys anyway)

interesting watching our floristas delivering their flowers, I'm not quite sure what they have planned, or how it will all work out.

I was thinking Turco grabbed on to Irina to get rid of Aurelio, but since she knew Monica was alive they decided to go with her, and I guess there was some money involved, and then Monica called Irina she said it was done and she wanted her money, and when she arrived Irina said Turco would have to write a check, and Monica showed that he wouldn't be signing things today, and I think the whole head thing, and her wide eyed look when she realized Monica was back with Aurelio, pushed Irina over the edge, but didn't Monica say she wanted more? (I think that's what happened anyway)

and I'm still struggling with what Elsa is all about, is she going to work both sides for her own gain, like that general did earlier? and isn't her big beef with Leo that she isn't Mexican and shouldn't be running around telling everyone what to do? and what a list of charges against Leo, doesn't that include the death of Cepeda?

En Otra Piel

thanks novelera!
I always learn things when you post.

En Otra Piel,

Thanks Novelera. I got the feeling that after suggesting to Camilia that she help Ricardo find a job, Eileen did what she expects him to do real soon...follow his passion and accept the job from Jorge.

I'm wondering how Carlos and Pachuco are going to identify undocumented girls...who's family members won't report them missing. He already expressed an interest in Cami a long time ago. Looks like her disgust towards him will be the incentive.

This storyline with Selma and Esteban is really dragging out. I keep expecting a ghostly breeze to come in and move something to communicate with her. Hope something happens soon.

I'm wondering if the multiple personality/mental illness angle will be used to prevent Mondriana from serving time for fraud?

Thanks, novelera, for your helpful account of last night's episode. It cleared up several things for me, especially the conversation between Carlos and Pachuco.

Cielos: Monica and AC have a sick relationship. I still don't trust her, lol

OTRA PIEL

Deb- You can still call me Kelly for now. But I'm looking for a way to become Eileen because her life is way more fun than mine (except for being fake of course). Thanks for the info. I got the cd but hadn't noticed that she left the syringe too. Must lay off the margaritas during telenovela time!

EN OTRA PIEL, Wed. part 1
Quick recap, since I met with my
Spanish meetup group tonight.

Ger tries to convince Mondriana that he’s a reformed man. She doesn’t buy it. She wants to know what’s going to happen with the girls. He reminds her that he’s selling the business, etc. She still doesn’t think it’s good idea for them to leave yet. She gives in and kisses him. But she stops him before it gets too far since it’s still early. She makes plans to meet him in the lake house the next night. He’ll regret it though because she’s planning something.

Diego reads the books Rod gave him about multiple personalities. Rememberances of a conversation he had with Adriana. The next day he goes to talk to Rod about Adriana.

Jorge talks to Marta about the check that he used for the hospital bill. He asks why the boys aren’t living at the house, and she tells them about the issues with Elena. He gives his card to her to give to Ricardo, and wants to meet with Ric in his office later. He asks her opinion about whether Mo’s spirit is hanging around the house.

Elena goes to the safe in the office and finds the pen used to sign the cd. Elena accuses Ger of being a traitor and now HE’S the one who did the doll thing. Mondriana watches happily from the peep hole of her secret storeroom.

Jorge talks to the girls about keeping the business in the family. He points out that Ger is still young and could get married again, have kids, and put them ahead of the girls. He mentions going to the wine fair in Napa. Emi wants to go to and learn all about the family business. The family wine business, which seems perfectly acceptable for a 12-year old. Everyone is excited.

Elena keeps on yelling at Ger and Ger tries to calm her down. This goes on for a couple scenes. She shows him the PEN she found that proves he left her the cd with Monica’s handwriting. Then Ger, trying to get her to shut up already, asks “doesn’t she want to get married”. Mondri looks hurt by this, but keeps watching.

Elena keeps yelling, and then asks about Monica being the love of his life. They fight more, and finally she asks him to swear that he’d never turn on her. He doesn’t, but says he wouldn’t because he loves her.

Marta tells Ricardo to fight for what he wants, quit whining and put on his suit to go meet with Jorge. (She was nicer and more motherly about it, but it’s the jist). Then she goes to see Gabe who wants to buy a sparkly dolphin necklace for Jennifer, who likes all things marine. (Future marine biologist remember?) Pay attention to the necklace because this is either a weird product placement, or we’ll be seeing it again.

Rod tells Diego that Adriana needs a doctor, a shrink. Or, Diego suggests, the problem could be una alma vagabunda. Wandering soul. He tells Rod about the dije. Rod thinks it’s all nuts. Diego finally agrees to call a shrink, and asks if Rod knows one. Rod says no, but not to worry because they’re everywhere in this country.

Jorge chats with Camila, Emi, and Vicki about the video and what the heck happened with Elena. Jorge defends her, but Emi says she’s never doing a party again.

Marta comes back to the bookstore and suggests that Rod have a grand re-opening party. He was thinking the same thing!

Elena finally chills out and Ger wipes away her tears. She tells him about the video thing she hid at the piano. Mondriana heard. Scheme thwarted! He kisses Elena when Emi walks in on them. “Interrupo algo?” Yep. She asks if they’ve seen Monica.

EN OTRA PIEL, pt. 2

Jorge goes to some shed and pushes aside a heavy trunk to open a(nother) secret door to a basement. He’s going through a tunnel, still all lit up, and guess where he comes out?!? No where! He hears sounds and goes back out the way he came in.
But we see the secret room where Mondri is intently watching and listening to Ger and Elena. Ger gives more assurances to Elena. She looks unsure.

Mondri somehow got out of the room and back to her own space, and rehashes some of the conversation she heard. Then Emi bursts in and talks about the wine festival. She begs Mondri to go with. Mondri starts to beg off since Jorge invited the girls and she has lots to do, but Emi persists.

Diego asks Marta before she goes if there is work at the house where she works. Hmmmm.

Elena talks to Mondri in the office and thanks her for the party. She apologizes for the video. Elena says I thought that was Emi’s idea. Well it was, but I (mondriana) should have known it could cause problems with everything that is going on. She says strange things have been going on with her too. She says someone left her something at the cabana, and she hands an envelope over to Elena. Elena opens it and pulls out a pic of Adriana and Monica, with the word “venganza” written on it.

En Otra Piel

thanks Kelly,
love yer recaps!

I think Monica was having fun watching Elena rant until she accused Geraldo of loving Monica, which backs up his story to her, (and if it's one thing novelas have taught me, it's how difficult Good people have recognizing, and dealing with truly evil people, on their level)

I thought Jorge was on his way to the secret room, suspecting that was where the piano music was coming from, and when he heard voices, he stopped at a (nother) peep hole and saw Emi, who he wanted to talk too, and so backed out to intercept her, (and missed all of the incriminating talk),
and didn't he wonder about the lights being on.

and why is Carlos at Larrea, didn't pervo get him the job to keep an eye on the place, and pervo is no more.

but wait, is Monica laying down her hand with that picture, "venganza",
I bet Elena doesn't get it,
like me.

En Otra Piel
Great recap, Kelly. Many thanks. I kept falling asleep last night and missed some stuff, such as Diego's asking Marta whether there's work at the house. Oy! Then Mondri can fight off both Gerardo and Diego.

I know that a lot of folks here like Emi, she drives me nuts with her rapid-fire speech and her continual bursting in other people (though of course I enjoyed her doing so with Elena and Gerardo). I have to keep reminding myself that if she were my daughter I might feel very differently. Maybe.

En Otra Piel
Hmmm...in the note I just posted, the "but" before "she drives me nuts" seems to have disappeared. Maybe it's not just in the Larrea house that strange things are happening. :-)

En Otra Piel

Great recap, thanks, Kelly. I'm pretty sure that the secret passage from the shed does lead to the secret room where Mondriana was hiding out. Jorge heard Emi outside and went back. Mondriana has been going into the study directly from the outside through a patio door. That is why she avoided the camera.

Ric doesn't seem to live in the 21st century where the best way to get in the door for a job is with a personal connection and then you can prove yourself.

I wonder what Mondriana has in mind by giving Elena the picture of herself and Monica.

It seemed inevitable to me that Diego would end up working at the vineyard. Next thing, Gabriel will get back there as well to be with Jennifer.

I don't think that Judge Pervo told Raul/Carlos what he knew about Gerardo and Elena so why do they let him keep his job?

CIELOS:

Boom! Actually, just a small boom, and no one got hurt. Elsa tells Chema she's going to try to stop the bomb, he says you're too late, but try, you could be a hero. The calls ahead, speeds to the site, also corners Andrews and tells him to stop it. The authorities separate the Pres and the Drug Czar, this throws off Cabo and Tijeras's plans. They see something's wrong, try to get away, Andrews is after them. They set off the bomb, which blows up some stairs, but the Pres is okay, and Elsa IS a hero!

Andrews goes after Cabo and Tijeras to kill them (to shut them up), Tijeras gets arrested and laughs at Andrews, because now he can't shoot him, Cabo gets away. At the end of the episode, Cabo goes to Chema's place, since the other bomb is under Chema's car, and as Chema walks near the car, Cabo presses the button. Boom! We don't know if Chema was killed or not.

Leo has your typical prison catfight, except that she's trained in martial arts and defeats all the ladies. However, one comes at her with a knife, she dodges, and another prisoner is killed. They all blame Leo, and she's put in solitary, charged with murder. Ignacio is at the jail trying to help her.

Bert calls Ignacio, saying I do think I'll take you up on your offer, send me money so I can study in Barcelona. Ig is busy with the Leonor thing, and Bert yells at him, but then calms down.

Mati is telling EVERYONE she loves Carlitos, even though Chacorta has kicked her out. She tells Charcorta, then Alba, then Lai, then Bert, then Ximena, who asks if Carlitos is really Bert's kid. If so, Xime will help. But Mati won't say at this point.

I think Monica has figured out that AC slept with Lai. We could have some fireworks between the two ladies!!

Gracias Hombre

Cabo left his phone in one of the plants while they were loading charges in the men's baño. If it didn't get destroyed, the cops can get some contacts.

¡Dios mio! AC is in trouble with Monica again!

Thanks, Hombre, for another helpful recap. I need all the help I can get with this novela. Between the words that are blipped and the words that aren't blipped that I either can't make out or do make out but don't understand and can't find in the dictionary, I'm not sure why I'm continuing to watch this. I'm afraid La Reina del Sur spoiled me for all other narconovelas. Cielos 1 paled in comparison, but I found Cielos 1 more compelling than Cielos 2. I am enjoying it, but....

Oh well, enough grousing for one comment.

En Otra Piel

Thanks, Kelly, for the recap.

I'm too busy reading subtitles to notice product placement, but I'll have to make an effort. I can see how they can use it again...a lone necklace as evidence that something happened to Jennifer.

I also didn't catch the word on the photo. That was a clever move by Mondriana.

Fortunately Jorge didn't find her in the secret room. I kept thinking she was going to scream and Elena and Gerardo would hear her. It would be nice if he could overhear a few conversations about what really happened to his brother.

En Otra Piel:

There was a product placement in last night's episode. I guess it didn't work too well since most people didn't notice it. Gabriel was searching for his gift to Jennifer on the Macy's website!!!

Cielos

thanks so much Hombre!
I was wondering where the Czar was.

I think we were supposed to believe that the entire auditorium blew up, since that's where the bombs were, but we only saw the debris coming out of the doors, but why did Cabo set it off before the Prez went inside. a distraction to get away ??

and there didn't seem to be any mention of anyone being hurt, did Elsa explain it as a problem in the kitchen, and of course she gets the big thank you from the President himself.

Monica has a sixth sense when it comes to Aurelio, she picked right up on it during the phone call, of course Lei likes to get him aroused when he talks to Monica.

ah, Carlos Torrestorija (Maximiliano 'Max' Miravalle, Ignacio's father) was in "La Patrona" as Erika de la Rosa (Elsa Marín) father.

EN OTRA PIEL

Thanks, Kelly. You certainly didn't have to apologize for your recap! It was quite good.

Jean, you're right about the Macy's website. I noticed that one right away. Remember when they did a Mother's Day product placement of Eileen buying a gift for Selma and presenting it in a Macy's bag? Funny, I used to put my mother's presents in a box and then wrap them. Guess everyone just uses bags these days.

Did they ever show Mondriana going into the secret room any other way than through the office? Because of El Cuerpo del Deseo, in which there was an outside way to get into Salvador's secret room, I keep wondering in this one why they didn't use that device to spare Mondriana some close calls.

Yep, it's too bad Jorge didn't get to overhear Elena and Gerardo, but I guess it's too early for that reveal. It took forever for Mondriana's penny to finally drop. But, if he'd found Mondriana, there would have been a lot of 'splainin' to do.

Didn't Elena already see that picture of Adriana and Mónica after Mondriana dropped it in the driveway when she was hit by the power of the dije? Can't remember how Mondi got it back. Of course it didn't have "vengeance" written on it then!

They sure did put paid to Elena's camera plan fast! I suspect Mondi might make sure she sees something that spooks her even more.

Ricardo, Ricardo. He's never seen a gift horse he doesn't want to look in the mouth. You know, typing that dicho in English I just realized it makes no sense at all! [Yes, it does, after all. I googled it. It would be bad manners to check the soundness of the teeth of a horse you were given as a gift. Who knew?]

Cielos

Variopinta, I kept an eye on Cabo's cell phone but if I'm not mistaken, I believe he picked it back up and put it in his coat pocket. I could be wrong though.

The thing I do not get is why did he answer La Ruusa's phone call but not Chema's? I don't think he was ignoring Chema because he did not even acknowledge the phone he called. Maybe he put the phone on silent after he hung up with La Russa?

Somebody help with this!

CIELOS

Thanks, Hombre, for your usual concise mini-cap!

My memory is a little fuzzy. Wasn't Chema about to get into the car with the bomb attached? If so, it made no sense that Cabo blew it up BEFORE he got in. Of course, he's a major character and enemy for Aurelio, so I doubt he'll die. I dislike him, so I'm hoping for some major facial disfiguration!

Deb, if I remember correctly, they re-routed the US Drug Czar to Baja California (Tijuana??); the meeting was held; and the accord for cooperation in anti-narcotics efforts was signed.

Aurelio having Lai as the person to give him Oscar Cadena's stash of "merca" might get him off the hook with Mónica. But I'm sure she also smells something. And Lai doesn't look like someone she should not be suspicious of!

I LOVED Tijeras' expression when he surrendered to the police and smiled at Andrews. But what is he going to say? They seemed more than happy to cuff him, but how would they know he had anything to do with the bombing?

I HATE all women's prison scenes. They always ratchet up the violence and usually throw in some evil lesbian crap as well.

I think Ignacio is going to be able to spring Leonor. He definitely gave Elsa the meaningful stare about why she had it in for Leonor. She started out on her high horse because Leo isn't Mexican, but later it was a favor for Chema.

CIELOS

VRO, I thought Cabo either silenced or turned off his cell when Tijeras was so freaked by the ringing of La Rusa's call.

I don't remember if he put it back in his clothing or left it there, though.

thanks novelera,

I just remembered that Aurelio is keeping tabs on Leo as well, and now I wonder if that was his setup to kill her, among other things, she did see him alive.

a couple of expressions I keep seeing are,

ni qué ocho cuartos or ni en ocho cuartos,

and

Simón

does anyone have any experience with these expressions?

En Otra Piel – jueves – Part 1

We open with a repeat of the very weird scene at the end of Wednesday's episode where Mondriana is in the studio getting her paycheck. Elena apologizes for going bonkers and ruining her birthday party. Mondriana casually says that strange things are happening to her as well. She shows Elena the selfie that Mónica took with Adriana in the limo in Mexico City. “Vengeance” is written neatly on Adriana's arm, like an autograph. Mondriana tells Elena that this incident prevented her from sleeping all night but she doesn't appear to be upset at all. She tells Elena that she is worried that something like that might happen to Emi or Cami. Elena promises to hire more security for the house.

Diego asks Marta if she can help him get a job at the mansion [security guard?]. She says that she will try. She appreciates all she has done for her sons.

Valeria stirs a pot on the stove and flashes back to various conversations with Diego and cries. Doña Lupe dispenses some her wisdom.

Tomás, Jorge's agent in LA, asks why he is hiring Ric. Jorge already has good lawyers and Tomás doesn't need any help. Jorge replies that he doesn't want to alienate Camila. Tomás notices that Jorge is n't paying attention. Jorge agrees saying that he is worried about the weird goings on at the mansion and the threat they might pose to his nieces. Tomás recalls that Mondriana said the same thing when she was trying to buy the vineyard. Jorge asks what the investigator Tomás hired has found out about her. Tomás replies that the investigator hasn't found any information about her or her past. Jorge tells him to find another investigator. Mondriana is too close to his nieces and she doesn't inspire confidence.

Ric shows up at Jorge's office. Jorge tells him that he needs an assistant and thinks that Ric has the right qualifications. Ric thanks him but instead of saying how much he appreciates the opportunity and that Jorge won't be disappointed, Ric asks how Jorge chose him and did someone like Camila recommend him for the job. What a jerk!

Selma brings something of Esteban's to the psychic. The psychic says that she can contact Esteban if his spirit is still hanging around and hasn't “gone over to the other side.” She starts her mumbo jumbo but Selma suddenly jumps up, says this is ridiculous and a big mistake and leaves.

En Otra Piel – jueves – Part 2

Emi tells Mondriana that she wants to learn about the California wine industry before going to the Wine Fair. Mondriana says that there is a book about this in the library. She goes to the house to get it and times her entry to surprise Gerardo embracing Elena. Elena has demanded that Gerardo comfort her because she is sure that Mónica's spirit is seeking vengeance for her murder. Mondriana leaves and Gerardo moves to follow her. He tells Elena that he has to make sure that Mondriana doesn't blab about this to everyone. Elena asks why can't they tell everyone about their relationship now. Why does Gerardo keep saying that this is the not the right moment? Gerardo leaves. Elena wonders if Mondriana has anything to do with Gerardo's behavior.

Rodrigo and Gabriel wonder if the Doggy gang might find out about and show up at the grand reopening of the bookstore. Diego reassures them that can't happen. [Really?]

Mondriana gets a text from Gerardo that he is waiting for her in the lake cabin.

Marta urges Lorena to come to the bookstore opening.
Elena is brooding over a pen when Mondriana comes in. Elena assumes that she wants to blackmail them for what she saw. On the contrary says Mondriana and proceeds to lay it on really thick about how she understands how Elena could seek comfort with Gerardo and conceal their relationship out of consideration for Cami and Emi. She says that she too has fallen crazily in love but she won't let anyone break her heart again. She says that she understands why Mónica depended on Elena so much. She is the main support of the house and puts everyone's welfare above her own.

Gabriel surprises Jennifer in her room. She is tired of being shut up in the house all day and wants to go to the bookstore reopening but Gabriel convinces her that it is too dangerous.

Mondriana stands Gerardo up at the lake house and then he stands outside the guest house and tells Mondriana that he understands that she is upset but he can explain. He tells her how much he loves her while she cries silently inside.

Selma comes home from the psychic and tells Eileen that she was at the movies. Eileen finds Esteban's shirt that Selma took to the psychis but Selma refuses to answer any of her questions about why she was carrying it around.

En Otra Piel – jueves – Part 3

Jorge looks at a picture of him with his brother during the construction of the basement of the mansion while flashing back to a conversation with Julián about how useful such a place will be for a safe when they are millionaires.

Cami, Emi and Jorge head off to the Wine Festival in Napa. Mondriana is sad to see them go. She never knows when will be the last time she sees her daughters.

Ric starts his new job and immediately makes a personal call! He tells someone that he has good news and says that he will see this person at the grand reopening of the bookstore. I assume that he is talking to Eileen since Camila has gone to Napa and won't be at the reopening.

Mondriana tells Selma that she overheard Gerardo making the same protestations of love to Elena as he made to her. Selma asks what she felt when she heard Elena accuse Gerardo of being in love with Mónica. Mondriana says that she isn't sure but when she was being murdered, Mónica she told her that she was jealous of her and Gerardo.

Selma asks Mondriana about Elena's reaction to their conversation. Mondriana replies that Elena seemed vulnerable and exploited like all Gerardo's women, including her. Selma asks if Mondriana thinks that Gerardo ordered Elena to murder Mónica. Mondriana replies that she is sure that Elena killed Mónica of her own volition. She plans to continue with her Plan of Vengeance against Elena and has some surprises in store for Gerardo, too. She plans to get him to confess that he murdered Mónica and lots of other things.

Selma is concerned that the sensitive, art-loving Mónica she knew won't be sufficiently cold blooded to carry this off. Mondriana replies that that person doesn't exist any more. She was murdered in cold blood. This Mónica lives for pain, hate and vengeance. She “vive otra vida en otra piel,” “is living another life in another skin.”

Elena asks Gerardo to go to the beach with her this week but he tells her that he has to work and that he is tired of her jealousy of every woman around him.

I thought Aurelio said he wasn't going to kill Leo now, because he was afraid it could be linked to him, and more people would know that he is alive. Maybe I misunderstood, because I. too, miss a lot with all of the slang and their pronunciations. linda k

Cielos
deb, I'm so glad you asked about these expressions. I've heard both of them before, and you're right in both cases. Simón is used primarily in Mexico, I think, as another way to say Sí. I don't know whether there's a difference between sí and simón except for the fact that simón is much more colloquial. Perhaps it's like "yeah," but I don't really know.

As for ni qué/en otro cuartos, it means what you said--no way, you gotta be kidding, in your dreams. There's an interesting discussion about the phrase and its possible origins on WordReference.com.

I hope we'll have some discussion of other phrases used in Cielos. Many of them go right by me, and I can't even get enough to look them up.
<

Cielos,

Deb, you are correct about Simon. It's slang for Si. As far as the ocho cuartos phrase, I've never heard it but I will pay closer attention to it.

Linda K, you are also correct. AC demanded Chacorta to lay off Leo for now because things are getting heated right now. But he also said that he was just going to send a message to her, hence the attack.

Novelera, thanks for the cell phone clarification. That makes sense.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Tijeras. I was disappointed that Chema was able to escape the bomb. Remember, Chema still has the detonator that Cabo gave him, so just something to keep an eye on.

En Otra Piel,

Ricardo may be annoying but things will certainly change once he and Jorge really bond. He hates Elena and Jorge doesn't trust her. I'm sure even Elena won't be too happy knowing they're on the same team.

Catching Gerardo and Elena kiss was a big score for Mondriana. He may love her but he's told one lie after another...to both women.

Diego working at the mansion can of course bring problems with Gerardo and especially Monica if he gets in her way trying to "cure" her. And of course Carlos when they finally cross paths.

By the way, someone asked why Carlos was still at the company. If I remember correctly, the Perv sent Carlos to kill them after the video was leaked but they became allies instead. If the sale to Jorge goes through, Camila will certainly get rid of him and unknowingly put herself at risk.

CIELOS:

Linda, I think you're right. Aurelio is so far just keeping tabs on Leo, the prison fight appears have been just the standard "welcome".

So, Chema does not get "quema-ed". He's burned a little, but Cabo's trigger fingers were too itchy, he pressed the button early. Chema recovers, he's mad, he knows Cabo did it. In jail, Tijeras is telling Andrews he can't take Tijeras out, and so far, the local cop agrees. But Chema visits, and Tijeras' smile fades.

AC does manage to convince Monica that his deal with Lai is just business, the Colombian coke. Monica just barely buys it, but we know one false step, and Lai is toast. In the plane, AC and Lai get "busy" again. They go to Colombia, to Panama, someone's in Miami, who can understand any of this? (except we know the coke has to get to the US).

So who knows AC is alive? Well, his entire family, Irina, Monica, Lai, a bunch of low level contacts, and maybe even some high level ones, and Leonor. But not Cabo, Chema, and I don't think Andrews or Elsa. Cabo surprises Monica at her house. She acts nice, but doesn't want to have sex with him, and doesn't reveal that AC is alive. Cabo thinks Monica will help him. Doubt it.

Bert seems to have truly matured, even calmly but firmly putting Mati in her place, but sympathizing with her plight about her baby (which is probably fake anyway).

Chacorta shows his maturity in a food fight with Victorcito. Yeah, right.

Leo is doing lots of situps in solitary. She tells Ignacio to forget about her, which of course makes him even more determined to help her.

EN OTRA PIEL

Thanks so much for the recap, Jean. Not much really happened, but you wrote it very well!

I will throw one of my many books at my TV if the Rottweiler gang wrecks Rodrigo's bookstore again. I have a passion for bookstores. One in my neck of the woods, Kepler's, was the focus of an amazing demonstration of community support. Kepler's opened its doors in 1955, and its founder was an anti-war activist. His son carried on, but lack of working capital forced them to close their doors in August 2005. There was SUCH a sense of loss. A Google employee started a Save Kepler's web site, funds were raised, the landlord re-negotiated their lease. And Kepler's re-opened in October of the same year at 11:00 AM. I was there. A huge crowd listened to local politicos and to Clark Kepler, then they opened the doors and we rushed in! Still open, doing better than ever!

Yep, Rick lacks good sense in his inter-personal relationships. Plus, his obsession with Camila caused him to so inappropriately ask if she'd gotten him the job. Jorge finessed that one nicely.

Wonder if they'll show any scenes in Napa. Ernesto is so disgusting. He was telling Gerardo with a big smirk that he'd surely get Camila in the sack in Napa. Blech!

CIELOS

I was SO disappointed about Chema's lack of third-degree burns. Really, that made no sense at all. He was standing right next to the car, and there was a huge fireball. Oh well!

Boy, that Mexican guard sure changed his tune! He seemed like a good man, actually doing his job when he refused to let Andrews take Tijeras. When Chema and one of his guys appeared, I heard him call Chema El Mero Mero and scuttle away.

I loathe Elsa Marin. She's nothing but naked ambition. Ignacio got to her with their little verbal jousting. She said something to him about his having a reputation for getting all the perritas con piernas abiertas. He said he had the reputation but not really the habit. But his father indeed did bed lots of little b*tches, obviously including her in the number.

Gosh, I hope Leo gets out soon. What is UP with Elsa? She seems to hate her so much, even more than keeping her locked up to suit Chema.

I think they're keeping Cabo vivito y coleando because Robinson Díaz is definitely good for comic relief!

En Otra Piel
Jean, thanks very much for the excellent recap. I was out last night and didn't want to comment (or even read the recap) until I'd had a chance to watch the episode.

I was relieved that Selma came to her senses and walked out on the so-called medium or psychic or whatever.

Novelera, I too strongly hope that Rottweiler (or any other gang) doesn't wreck Rodrigo's restored bookstore. I'm not sure I'd sacrifice my TV by throwing a book at it, but I probably would stop watching the novela.

Cielos
Thanks very much, Hombre, for your helpful remarks. I especially enjoyed your comment about Chacorta's demonstrating his maturity via the food fight with his son.

I'm not sure I agree, however, that the prison fight was just the standard "welcome." What made it different was the knife and the attempt to kill Leo, or to make it seem as if she killed the other inmate.

It seemed impossible that Chema emerged from the explosion with just relatively minor wounds. He was right next to the car when it exploded.

Why did Monica slap Cabo? Just to let him know she's the boss? Or did I miss the explanation (quite likely)?

Cielos

thanks so much Hombre!

yea, most of this show goes right over my head,

what I got of the 'business' was that Lai took Aurelio to some guy in Columbia, flying in this nice private jet, who had some of Cardena's old stash in a shed, then did they then go to Panama to the airplane dealer guy (was this the same place he bought his jets in the first season) who didn't seem surprised that Aurelio was alive, and bought a Navaho, while Chacorta went to Miami to meet with Molly?? or something.

Juanita- I think Monica slapped Cabo because he was living in her house when she supposedly died and he liquidated all of her stuff. I'm not sure what their deal is, she helps him get to Colombia and he sets her up with connections for some merc ??

EL SENOR

Lai has Oscar's stash hidden in a stable, and the guy hiding it told them some Venegas guy was down there looking for it. Chema. Aurelio comes up with a plan and talks to Chacorta in Miami about getting more of the Navajo airplanes from the contact there, but the contact only has 727's. Aurelio insists on the smaller planes, but since the real El Senor used 727's, he may change his mind. (A plane full of that much cocaine still blows my mind. Just say no! Or at least, just say less.)

The most interesting character for me is Heriberto. His transformation from dumb kid in the first season, to murderous drug dealer, to repentance is fascinating. Kudos to this actor (Ruy Senderos). Betico doesn't deserve a pass given all the people he's killed, but if he turns state evidence, I'll allow a redo on his life. But he'd better prove himself (and going to confession and working at the church doesn't count).

So in looking up Berto'a real name, I saw on Wikipedia that they are doing a THIRD season of this! So do we start taking beets as to who will actually be alive for season 3?

Kelly

Whoops. That's "bets" not beets. But I'd be willing to play for beets too.

Kelly

Tks again Hombre

Do you think I need professional help since I hope Cabo can rescue Tijeras from jail? Those two are too funny together.

Elsa thinks the Colombian is meddling in Mexican justice. She is jealous of her. Probably scared of her too since Leo is all about getting the bad guys & it's looking more & more that Elsa is one of them.

CIELOS:

Cabo wants to find out if AC is alive, Monica doesn't want him to know. Irina calls Cabo, desperate, she has something very important to tell him. Monica tags along. Just before Irina tells him that AC is alive, Monica shoots her dead. Cabo asks if maybe she was preventing Irina from talking, Monica just laughs, and so far, convinces Cabo that AC's dead.

Likewise, Chema wants to know if AC is alive, and wants to get the info from Matilde. She visits him, even has sex with him, wants the "big suitcase" ($1.5 million) he wants to know about AC, she lies and says he's dead. He's still not convinced, asks Mati to get something with AC's DNA on it, so she gets a hairbrush, barely evading detection from Alba. But since this DNA won't match either of the cadavers that have passed for AC before, won't this prove AC is alive?

Bert tells his Mom goodbye, he can't say where he's going. Ignacio gives him cash to go to Barcelona, he can study there, it's all set up, except that Bert will have to get out of the country and thru customs on his own.

Elsa continues to walk the tightrope between all the people she's juggling. I'm guessing her lesbian tendencies with Lucila will cause her problems at some point.

AC tells Lai that his relationship with Monica isn't love, but it's very strong in a sort of fun, twisted way (!!)

Leo is going to have a hearing on the charges of her killing the prisoner (which she didn't do).

Tijeras intimidates some prisoners for some change, calls Cabo on the cell phone. I don't know how Cabo is going to rescue him, and Cabo is being manipulated by Monica, but I'm rooting for him.

You're a life-saver, Hombre. Many thanks for this much-needed recap. I sometimes think I could watch this novela without any sound or subtitles and would understand almost as much as I do before I read your recaps.

I doubt that Berto is going to be able to get to Barcelona, study hard, settle down, and live happily ever after. The only think I wonder about is how soon his dreams are going to unravel. Before he leaves Mexico? After he gets to Barcelona? (Though, given my track record with predictions, I may have just guaranteed that he'll turn out OK :-) )

Cabo suspects AC is alive, he even said that body(can't remember which one) I think the one AC shot because he wasn't useful anymore, wasn't hm but Chema thought it was. I really don't know how they can think Trino looks like AC, he is taller & skinnier, plus he is driving for Cunchetina over at DQTQTQ. Cant't find out who the actor is, they don't list him on either cast list.

Is it still a no, no to say what happened in the real life of Amado Carrillo & family? 2nd season seems to go way beyond the real story. It really isn't a spoiler since this is fudging the real story.

thanks so much Hombre!

I hadn't realized Monica shot Irina to keep her from talking,
I thought it was she didn't like her smile.

Variopinta- Alejandro Durán is Trino Rivera (from imdb)

Cielos:

Thanks so much for the summary. I have a few questions since I missed some of Season 1. Do we know who the true father of Matilde's baby is? Are Cabo and Tijeras related? Is Heriberto the real son of Ximena? Thanks for all of your help in this... It means a lot! Linda k

Cielos
We don't know the true papa de Carlitos, that is why Ximena wants DNA test. Is she abuela or tia?

I really doubt Cabo & Tijeras are related, did it ever come up? They are certainly kindred spirits. My favorite characters, even though Tijeras snips fingers and always has a bad hair day. Sth about Cabo that makes you love him. I think it is great acting for both.

Yes, Heiberto is the son of Ximena & AC

I am worried about Bert getting out of Mexico or once gone surviving without backsliding. Looks really bad for Tijeras right now. I am rooting for he and Cabo to break him out of jail and get to Colombia to hide out for awhile, It is weird to be rooting for asesinos. Actually will Cabo survive Monica and a visit from C. Tablet won't let me spell out Cabo's current arch enemy's name.
