De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #120/121- Mon 7/7
I must have been ignoring Kimberly on Friday, because I remembered her showing up at lunch, but I did not remember her telling the Boss that she would be marrying El soon, nor the Boss inviting himself to be their witness for the wedding. Awkward. But that's where the refrito starts in, followed by Brat ignoring Rod's calls and trying to talk herself out of being pregnant; Carmen telling Paolo and Angela that Big Abdul was going to free Abdul from his sex-induced stupidity; Mally's dine-and-dash; and Brat sobbing over luxury apartments she'll never have.
On to today…
Irene, Diego, and Natalia arrive at Casa Tad for dinner. Elena happily announces that Tad's in his studio…painting! Irene goes to check on him, but he won't show her what it's working on. She giddily announces that Nat is THEIRS, as confirmed by the DNA test results. On a less-happy note, she confronted Vicente already and he denied any wrongdoing, as usual. Tad vows to make him pay, but he's got a tight deadline to accomplish that. Irene calms him down, but she still wants to take her sweet time telling Natalia that she's their daughter. Tad agrees to put his dreams of seeing Vicente behind bars on hold for the sake of Nat's delicate sensibilities.
Mara's mom is a crappy patient. Even the nurse tells Mami Dearest to back the hell off and let her tired daughter get five minutes of rest. Mami Dearest accuses Mara of abandoning her.
Abdul gets back to La Jaiba Loca and tells Jaiba he just saw Mally stealing food and he wants to ask her to come back. Jaiba, of course, has to lie and deny.
Natalia hopes one day she will find out what Irene and Carmen said to each other, because now Carmen is totally happy to have Nat going over to Irene's for dinner. Hey, Nat, maybe she just wanted a night off from cooking. Nat and Diego leave and Irene broaches the subject of the bone marrow transplant again, but Tad declares it off limits.
Mara replays her mom's greatest hits…which, in some cases were actual physical blows. She's saved from her solitude and guilt by Paolo and Carmen.
Diego drops Nat off at home, where she's treated to a lovey text message from Rodrigo. I think he might have said something about the emptiness in his soul, but maybe that was just me, mistranslating.
Carmen is ready to go in and fight with Mami Dearest on Mara's behalf.
Nat comes home to an empty house, so outraged that Rodrigo would text her THAT SHE CALLS HIM. Oh, sure, to tell him to leave her alone, but COME ON! Unlike Natalia, I'm not even listening to Rod's idiotic excuses. I hear tears…still not listening! Whining…don't care! And he turns it off like a faucet.
Luz and Lupita are making El's favorite cookies. And now I want cookies. Lupita wants to call El and invite him over. I want El to come over, too. To Luz's! I swear! That's all I meant! Kimberly is a little weirded out that he's getting a call from a kid. Lupita threatens to eat all the cookies if he doesn't come over. Too bad he tells Kimberly what the call was about, so now she wants them BOTH to go over.
Mami Dearest is predictably rude to Carmen. Mara, out in the hallway, worries about this very thing and ignores her sammich. The doctor has the results and they're not good. She starts crying before he says anything more. Carmen tells Mami Dearest that Mara's a good kid, but as far as MD is concerned, Mara deserves divine retribution for the sin of leaving her alone. Carmen brushes off MD's bad attitude and tells her that she and Angela want to help Mara take care of her. MD isn't interested, blames it all on Paolo, and threatens to call the nurses and have her thrown out. The doctor, meanwhile is telling Mara there's nothing to be done now but make her comfortable. Paolo promises Mara they'll deal with this together. Paolo wins at everything. Mara and the doctor go in to tell MD the bad news. This sucks! Mara's mother is going to use every last second she has to keep telling Mara how terrible she is and Mara is still going to be sorry when she's gone.
Alonso prepares a fabulous, romantic dinner for him and Diego. He's proud of himself for knowing how to cook, despite his dude-liness. Diego declares that Alonso is now ready to get married. Alonso breaks the news of his impending fatherhood to Diego. And that that's the "business" he has with Karina. Pro tip: When DIEGO is looking at you like you’re a complete idiot…you probably are.
Mara and the doctor tell Mami Dearest that she's dying. She blames it on Mara and throws her out. Shrew! Harpy!
Dinner, Alonso, Diego, spaghetti…"Karina?! QTH, dude!"…blah, blah, blah. What?! Diego wants to be the godfather? Now I'M looking at you both like you're idiots.
Mara cries because her Mami Dearest wants nothing to do with her, which wouldn't be a problem, except that Mara doesn't want to leave her alone. Paolo comforts her. The doctor says she can have her treatment at home, which is no comfort at all. Carmen leaves the kids there for the evening after giving Mara another hug.
Eleazar and Kimberly show up for cookies. And Kimberly invites herself into the kitchen. And Lupita stomps on El's foot in retaliation. I was really hoping she had kicked him in the shin, because Lupita is my idol and I would love to have her in the Shin-Kickers' Club, but I'll settle for a foot stomp. Carmen shows up and hears Lupita saying she wants El to marry Carmen, but Carmen says that's impossible, because El is going to marry Kimberly. Carmen and Lupita leave and Kimberly wants to know if it's because of her, but El…wisely?...doesn't answer. As if she didn't know.
Natalia is struggling with herself not to call Rodrigo back. Lupita, Luz, and Carmen show up and Natalia takes Lupita to get ready for bed while Carmen fixes tea to go with the cookies that Luz brought. Luz doesn't seem to care that she's neglecting her guests.
Rod goes over to Alonso's to pretend to be drunk and pathetic in front of Diego. He actually says "Nobody loves me!" Or, again, maybe that's just something my imagination filled in because NO! NOBODY LOVES YOU!
Kimberly complains about how she's making an effort and nobody likes her. So she decides she's leaving. And El stays behind.
Carmen tells Luz that Irene is Nat's Bio-Mom and how Nat was taken from her. Luz freaks out a little that Nat is dating/married to/about to get divorced from/about to marry her cousin, but Carmen explains that Irene was also adopted. They move on to talking about Mara and Mara's Mami Dearest. Luz offers to help, but honey, I don't think Freud himself could help that woman! Oh, Carmen moved on to talking about something else. No idea what. It happens.
Kimberly calls Morales to ask for a ride home.
More crocodile tears from Rod. Hey, why do they call them crocodile tears anyway? Not that I care, it's just easier not to listen to him when I'm thinking about something else. Oh, wow! He threw himself onto the couch. They debate whether he's being honest because everyone knows drunks are honest. They fail to debate whether he's actually drunk. Instead of leaving him on the couch, they prepare to drag him out and leave him on Vicente's doorstep.
Luz wonders where Kimberly went and promises to make more of an effort. And then she fills in El on Big Abdul's plan to trap Jaiba.
Morales shows up to whisk Kimberly away in a squad car.
Carmen comes in to check on Natalia, who can't sleep because she's thinking about Rod. She can convince Carmen it's nothing, but I'm not fooled!
Eleazar comes home and just expects Kimberly to be there waiting for him. Then he gripes about "women," because he's soooo perfect. Kimberly, in some random café, ignores the call from him. Morales comes over to the table with a slice of chocolate cake, a warm shoulder, and free smoochies. Marry that man, Kimberly! Screw the emotional support…he brought cake!
Alonso and Diego drop Rodrigo off in Vicente's living room where he shakes off his fake drunk as soon as they're gone. "If you weren't on my side, I'd be scared of you." Vicente, you idiot! Rod's only on his OWN side…and he thought bubbles it to back me up.
Natalia's still thinking about Rod in the workroom. She asks Diego to please review some bidness data with Rod so she doesn't have to. Diego tells her about Rod being drunk as a skunk last night. He doesn't believe Rod was sincere, despite his allegedly-inebriated state. Natalia thought bubbles that Diego's right…Rod's not sorry. And she's not going to tell Diego about Rod's text either.
Brat is feeling better in the morning, she says, but when Nat calls, she says she'd like another day off to rest. She wheedles a viewing of the apartmentazo out of Alberto, as long as his appointment cancels. Alberto leaves and Brigitte wonders if he'd still love her if she was carrying another man's baby.
Kimberly wakes up the next morning in Morales' bed and is just as happy to be there as he is to have her. "He's a god!" A god with chocolate cake, Kimberly…don't forget that! But then she tells him it was nice and all, but it's never going to happen again.
When Rosa calls Rod for Diego, he whines that he's too depressed to show up to work. Diego tells her it's not depression, it's a hangover.
Actually, it's a visit to harass Brigitte, who is wearing a dress that looks like an apron and some Ace bandages. He threatens to tell everyone that she started shagging him when she thought he was Diego and that she didn't stop when she found out he wasn't.
Morales doesn't want Kimberly to leave and is willing to face the consequences, but she still wants Eleazar. Cake, Kimberly, CAKE! What part of CAKE don't you understand?! Pobre Morales. He thinks he's an idiot. And cries into his pillow.
Brigitte wants nothing more to do with Rod and doesn't want to keep hurting the people who love her…or so she says. And also, she's getting nothing out of being with Rod. Rod promises she has a lot to gain…and if she won't keep helping him, he'll make sure her life is a living hell. He says when he succeeds, he'll leave her alone. After he leaves, Brigitte wonders what he'd think if he knew there was something that would always unite them.
Abdul leaves Jaiba's in the morning and she calls Big Abdul. He's really enjoying the way that talking dirty to Jaiba makes Carmen jealous.
Eleazar demands to know where Kimberly was last night. "I'll tell you when I think you care." He changes his tune, refuses to get angry, and says it's on her conscience.
Big Abdul makes very loud plans to meet up with Jaiba and brags to Carmen that he's hooked her. "Your pocketbook has hooked her!" Carmen suggests when he meets up with Jaiba on the road to Cuernavaca, he keeps going to Acapulco and they can roll around in the sand. He laughs at her for being jealous and gives her a quick smooch before he leaves. Carmen is…affected.
In Jaiba's kitchen, the Crabettes are worried about Mally. Well, except for the one who still thinks there's something to gain by staying on Jaiba's good side. But even she bows to the peer pressure from the other two and decides she'll join them in trying to get Jaiba to forgive Mally.
Big Abdul won't take Jaiba on their little trip until she looks Abdul in the eyes and tells him "It's over!" And by the way, that's what HE's going to tell her right now, since she keeps coming up with excuses not to break up with the kid.
Carmen comes to Irene for love advice. Oh, Carmen! Your love life is like some kind of advanced calculus problem. Irene can barely do basic math.
Eleazar goes to Alonso. Because everybody knows Dr. Luuuuuuurve has all the answers. As evidenced by his own love life.
Big Abdul finally pushes Jaiba far enough that she swears she'll break up with Abdul today. She gives herself a pep talk.
Brigitte goes to a pharmacy, where I guess she has to ask the clerk for a pregnancy test. She seems not at all bothered as he asks what kind and tells her they're all pretty much equally reliable, but that a blood test will be the only 100% accurate result. "And can I just get one without a doctor's orders?" He says sure, go to a lab, tell them you want a pregnancy test, they'll take a sample, y ya. And off goes Brigitte.
Yes, Carmen, Irene can tell you have a thing for Eleazar. EVERYONE can tell you have a thing for Eleazar. The astronauts on the International Space Station can't figure out how THEY know from orbit and it took you this long to figure it out. Carmen tells Irene, this isn't about Eleazar, it's about Big Abdul, his plan, and her jealousy.
I'm tuning Alonso's advice out. Until he tells Eleazar to quit being an idiot and go after Carmen already. Because sometimes, we teach what me most need to learn.
Irene lectures Carmen about lust not being love and needing to jump Eleazar's bones already so she doesn't lose the love of her life. Carmen assumes Irene knows this because of Tad. Irene smiles and thought bubbles that he's not the love of her life.
Eleazar asks Alonso why he didn't follow his own advice with Irene. But Alonso admits he screwed up royally with Irene.
Carmen wonders what's up with Natalia, but Irene says she hasn't told Natalia anything yet. She mentions that Brigitte hasn't been to work in two days and Carmen decides to go visit her. Diego shows up and asks about Carmen's visit. She brings up Carmen bringing up Nat's weird mood.
Congrats, Brigitte! You're pregnant.
Nat and Diego run into Rod in the hallway and he mentions "last night." Nat says it was a text that wasn't important, so Rod goes off to pout that she didn't think it was important…but he pouts just around the corner, where he can hear their conversation. Diego gets upset when she tells him what it said, that she erased it, that she didn't tell him because she knew he'd act like a jerk. So he acts like a jerk and chases her to the door of the Bathroom of Tears, Recriminations, and Pep Talks. He's pissed that a text from Rod gave her a sleepless night. And then he gets more pissed when she says she called and told him to leave her alone. And then she says the only effect Rod has on her is a bad one. So, since they had both decided that he's full of bull, they need to stop fighting. Diego apologizes and they hug.
Brigitte goes over to Karina to cry about being pregnant. Karina seems sympathetic. For now. She'll probably be stealing the baby later, but I don't think Brigitte will mind.
Nat is surprised that her mom came over to visit Irene and didn't talk to her. Diego laughs at her for being jealous. Nat jokes that now that Irene and Carmen are BFFs it's going to be like she has 2 helicopter moms. Diego asks "Why not?" and laughs. That's going to come back to bite him when she finds out how long he knew.
Karina tells Brigitte to tell the truth. Karina is sure Alberto will be ok. And that Rodrigo can't be so heartless as to not care about his own child. And if neither of them wants her, she can raise her baby alone. Karina brags about how she'll technically be a single mom, but she's got a great dad for her kid. Not that she's going to say who it is. Brigitte thinks she's nuts. She leaves, saying she'll go talk to Rodrigo. I don't think I like the contrasting strip of fabric down the back of Brigitte's dress.
Carmen goes to Alberto's but gets no answer. She takes a call from Nat and tells Nat she's trying to find Brigitte. Nat figures Alberto must have taken her to the doctor. Then she wants to know what Carmen and Irene talked about. Carmen makes fun of her for being the jealous one now. Alberto comes home, having no idea where Brigitte is, and invites Carmen in. He tries to call Brigitte, but it goes directly to voicemail. He invites Carmen to stay for lunch, so she goes to see what's in the fridge for her to cook.
The Crabettes have left signs all over, asking Mally to come back, but she doesn't want to go back to the same old thing from Jaiba.
Brigitte calls Rodrigo and asks to see him at a café, NOT the hotel. Rod fumes that she's being difficult, but goes to meet her.
Mally applies for a job at a stationery (or office supply?) store, promising she'll be a hard worker and won't let the lady down. The woman wants a letter of recommendation and Mally promises to bring one tomorrow.
Jaiba sees one of the signs the Crabettes posted and gets upset.
Diego and Nat make plans to have lunch together, but Santana calls to tell him 4/6 crappy machines screwed up and he had to stop production because they ran out of fabric with all the screw-ups. Diego asks him to come over ASAP with some of the fabric to show Vicente. He tells Nat that they're out of fabric and he's going to have to tell Irene.
Eleazar notices Morales is quiet, but Morales throws it back to him. Morales asks about yesterday's lunch and El brings up the Boss' offer to be their witness. "Oh, so there's going to be a wedding?"
Diego, Irene, and Nat realize they're up a creek without a bolt of fabric to paddle with. As much as Irene wants to throw this in Vicente's face, Diego says what they really need to do is figure out how they're going to get more fabric quickly enough to fill all their orders.
Eleazar admits to Morales that he wants to break up with Kimberly, but he doesn't want to hurt her. Kimberly walks in, saying they have to talk, and Morales says "Tell her! Tell her now!" He backs out of the office. Kimberly whines about how her feelings were hurt and Eleazar can't manage to say much of anything. He leaves her so she can calm down. Outside, he tells Morales he couldn't tell her. Morales keeps insisting that he needs to quit screwing around with her. He goes into El's office and tells Kimberly to leave him already, "He doesn't love you! That's what I asked him to tell you! He was just telling me before you showed up."
Irene, Diego, and Nat storm into Vicente's office to tell him about the machines. First Vicente thinks they're there about Natalia. Then they tell him the machines are messing up and he whines that he already told them that Rod was framed! Irene says if they don't get more fabric, they won't fill their orders. Rosa comes in with the fabric and Diego lays out a sample on Vicente's desk. "This is crap!" Well, duh!
Morales tells Kimberly that El just can't figure out how to tell her. She threatens to kill herself if El leaves her. "If you die, I'll die too!" They're on the verge of kissing when The Boss walks in. They use the "eyelash" excuse and The Boss obligingly blows in Kimberly's eye. He leaves and Morales says they need to just tell the truth already. "No, forget it. You won't convince me. Sorry." Pobre de Morales! And she even used his first name, "Edwin," which annoyed him, but ni modo, that's what his mom named him.
Vicente tells Rosa to find Rodrigo and get him there. Irene reminds him of the fines they'll pay for not delivering on time and how bad that would be for Caprico. Diego is ready to start calling suppliers, but nooooooo…Vicente wants to want until Rod shows up. Rosa can't reach him on his cell and he's not at the house. Diego's scowl is reaching Rodrigolike proportions.
Rodrigo gets to the café, ignores another call from Rosa, and tries to get fresh with Brigitte. He wants to explain his "plan" but Brigitte presents him with the pregnancy test results, telling him for once, he's won something…one of his little swimmers beat out all the rest for the honor of fertilizing her egg!
Mally decides to ask Abdul for a letter of recommendation. Abdul sees one of the signs the Crabettes put up and smiles, saying it would be nice to have Mally back.
Rodrigo doesn't believe it's his kid, and even if it is, he doesn't care. "Pin it on Alberto. He's enough of an idiot to believe you. He'll raise it like his own."
Diego doesn't want to wait for Rod, since he caused the problem and probably has no useful input. Irene says there is no other good decision to make…they HAVE to get the fabric. Vicente refuses to make a decision without Rod. Diego tells him to do what he wants. Irene tells him his blindness is going to ruin them.
The Crabettes hope Mally saw the signs and decides to come back. Jaiba comes in screaming at them and says she'll never forgive Mally. Jaiba swears she'll make the Crabette eat all those signs, to show her who's in charge. Abdul shows up and claims responsibility for the signs. She takes this as her opportunity to throw him out for trying to act like he has any authority around there. "I got what I wanted from you, so it's over…go back to your mommy."
Brigitte cries to Rod that Alberto will never believe the kid is his…he's way too careful. Rod is unmoved by her tears. He tells her to just have an abortion. "It's not like you have scruples," he says. He tells her this is her problem, not his. His parting advice is that a conscience isn't worth much.
Tomorrow: Rod tries to get physical with Nat; Diego knocks him out; Diego accuses Natalia of pining for Rod.
Labels: te-quiero
Brace yourselves, we'll be seeing the Aranza we didn't see.
What a fabulous opening paragraph, Diva. And you just went on hitting it out of the park. This was one of your finest. (although my favorite was way way way back when Colunga was having a testosterone verbal fight with another guy...I think I wet my pants laughing at that one.)
Just a few other gems:
Mara replays her mom's greatest hits...which in some cases were actual physical blows.
Pro tip: When DIEGO is looking at you like you’re a complete idiot…you probably are.
Amen. And the following conversation was even crazier. Diego pointed out, rightly, that Karina is a poor candidate for motherhood given that she's very unstable. And Idiot Alonso says she'll be different when she's a mom. Speaking as a Motherhood Vet, let me tell you the most stable woman turns into a mess when she's dealing with the stress of taking care of a baby round the clock. (and then comes crazy toddlerhood, "NO!", potty training, then fast forward to driving on their own and having the wrong type of boyfriend/girlfriend...) SURE Katrina will be more stable.
Well, off that rant and back to praising you. Loved the observation that Diego and Alonso failed to ascertain if Rod was actually drunk. Good point.
And the math image! Carmen's love life is calculus and Irene can't even do basic math. Yowza.
And "up a creek without a bolt of fabric to paddle with". [great]
Didn't have the patience to watch more than 20 minutes of this last night. But dang it they're dousing my hots for Eleazar. He's being such a wuss about telling the truth to Kimberly...and Carmen. Wussy does not light my fire, sir!
A real sparkler! Diva. You were on fire last night. (note the heavy Fourth of July imagery) Thanks, amiga mia.
Wow, you hit this one out of the park.
JudyB already noted most of my favorites, but would also like to add the following;
"Hey Nat, maybe she just wanted a night off from cooking.."
and
Mara replays her mom's greatest hits...which in some cases were actual physical blows."
I don't understand why when Nat and Diego are having problems at work they run to the porcelain confessional. I thought they had worked through things better.
Well, what is a girl like Brat to do? Rod the Rod isn't much help, and super boyfriend Al will smell a rat.
I think Carmen and Irene were sweet. I loved your calculus vs basic math line.
Well, I liked the episode, and loved your recap!
David
I was glad to see Carmen at the hospital. Mara really needed that hug from a mother figure. I hope Carmen realizes that there is no way Mara should be left alone at home to care for that witch.
And Abdul Jr. should be able to see what a witch Jaiba is, even without knowing she's a madame. Why he wants to stay with her is beyond me.
Brat's dress was certainly interesting. She won't be able to get away with that look once the baby bump grows. What's she going to do now?
Moralas - if loving you is wrong I don't wanna be right
Kim - that hit the spot and feel better already
Brigitte - that dress makes you look like a skeletal skunk
Nat - your fantasy guy knocked up your sister, will that finally do it?
Diego - beta
Hot Rod - bad seed
Alberto - Ask Al Landers
Carmen - guess Irene knocked some sense into you
Irene - what you so smiley about these days
Tad - forget the patience is a virtue crap
Mally - mongrel pups should run from an abusive master
Mara - it could be worse, like hand bills posted, begging for your return to a brothel
LOL! Tofie, I nearly spat out my tea!
-"They move on to talking about Mara and Mara's Mami Dearest. Luz offers to help, but honey, I don't think Freud himself could help that woman!"
-All of the Morales/Cake points because yes! "Cake, Kimberly, CAKE! What part of CAKE don't you understand?! "
-"it's a visit to harass Brigitte, who is wearing a dress that looks like an apron and some Ace bandages." (though I must say, I wish I had the body to wear a dress like that with confidence. You're entirely correct though, as hort as it was, it could basically morph into a bra later.)
-"Yes, Carmen, Irene can tell you have a thing for Eleazar. EVERYONE can tell you have a thing for Eleazar. The astronauts on the International Space Station can't figure out how THEY know from orbit and it took you this long to figure it out."
If Brigette doesn't abort or have Rod throw her down a flight of stairs or something, I wonder how her kid will function. Being raised by Irene and Alonso is going to be weird: "my mom is really my adopted great-aunt and my dad is my uncle's best friend because my bio-dad was a real life evil twin who tried to kill his brother, my uncle, who married his adopted cousin, my bi-mom's adopted sister. They conceived when my bio-dad kidnapped, drugged, impersonated and tried to poison my uncle so he could seek revenge on the aforementioned adopted aunt whom he tried to rape.
JudyB, if I could bottle last night's magic for future use, I would, but alas I have no idea what happened...the perfect combination of being too tired to care what I wrote and a fairly well-paced couple of episodes, I guess. I can only speak as an outside observer about being a mom, but I agree with you. I like kids, but my favorite thing about them is giving them back to their parents. I don't know how parents do it and I am ok with never knowing!
David, it was only five minutes of awkwardness at the bathroom door followed by an apology and a hug. That's progress, right? A few more decades and maybe they won't be running for the bathroom at all and can just have their shouting matches in the workroom instead of blocking all the other employees' access to the facilities!
Sara, I almost went into a whole Bill Cosby, "Morales is great..." routine, but I was trying to keep up the pace :D I thought he had a sure thing going, between the baked goods and THE goods, but I underestimated Kimberly's lack of self-respect.
Vivi, Abdul's excuses for being with Jaiba in the first place are ridiculous. "Well, I don't love her, but...she's ok when we're not fighting, so...yeah, I want to marry her." Really, Abdul? Or, I guess I should say, "Really, writers?"
tofie, lol...good one about Mara. I wonder if she'd think it was worse or be relieved someone wanted her around, poor kid!
You have such an incredible talent, 5FT. You amaze me on a DAILY basis.
We value your work and your time. Thank you SO much!!!
Fatima
Am I the only one who is weary of Rod? His continued annoying of enemies and allies only proves that he won't, IMO, be allowed to survive the tn. I just wish he could be locked up until the end of the tn.
Judy, I think you (and Sara from an earlier post) have solved the El riddle for me. Wussy isn't sexy and in most of his other roles (even as a baddie) he is NOT a wuss.
tofie, thanks for your list. And I understand your struggle w/this tn. The blogging community and Lupita are the true winners here. But some plots/characters just make me want to press the FF button. Rod, Irene believing Aloser is her one, true love, and most things concerning Aloser.
Mara will need serious therapy after her evil mother dies spouting more vitriol. She and Vicente are shining examples of how verbal abuse within families works.
ITA w/Kat, Vivi, and Sara about Kimi's hopeless clinging to El. It's desperate and icky.
Karen, I'm with you on being tired of Rod. He's not even a good villain, just a Mean Girl.
tofie, I beg to differ with you...we have no cops and robbers! Not since the early weeks. They "promoted" El to homicide, and where are all the homicides? All he does now is paperwork and deal with his personal life.
Sara, word. In the beginning, as much as I was prepared not to like her for being Carmen's rival, she was at least an actual rival. Now El's just keeping her around because he feels sorry for her. And why? They already had the "I'm in love with Carmen" talk. Does he really think he can hurt her more than that?
So true. As far as villains go he's pretty bland. Even when he was trying to kill Diego he didn't make my blood boil. I feel pretty meh about him.
Vicente and Brat. There are some folks I love to hate.
I ask the same question about Brigette because Al is big, strong, in charge (ish)AND sweet and (bewilderingly enough) cares about her. Does she still have some weird belief that the Rod relationship will hurt Nat for some reason besides the fact that her sister had an affair with her boyfriend/fiance/husband?
My favorite by a mile is Lupita and would bail on this should they create a spinoff. Wanted her to stomp El's other foot last night too.
s I read the list of horrors, I thought..."Just like in real life". At least in the local news section of our paper. Ye gods, we even had a woman who microwaved her infant as a way to get back at the baby daddy with whom she had an argument. No matter how absurd these stories get, alas there's always some real life counterpart.
On Rod, well I found myself thinking last night, "At least he's consistent." He never deviates from being a Nogoodnik, Screwyounik. When he makes nice to someone, it's only to pull the wool over their eyes. On the other hand, our good characters seem to flip in and out of their professed intentions and desires continually.
Kimberly's only complaint about Morales is that he's not El. But so few men are. Take the cake, Kim. Take the cake.
Somebody needs to make a meme with a really villainy villain pointing at Rod and laughing, with the caption "You call that evil?"
Rod is consistent. I'll give him that.
Nogoodnik is a better term than villain I think. It's just an all around good word.
"Brat sobbing over luxury apartments she'll never have", " Mally's dine-and-dash", "...and Tad vows to make him pay, but he's got a tight deadline to accomplish that", Marry that man, Kimberly! Screw the emotional support…he brought cake!" and "Because sometimes, we teach what me most need to learn" were simply fabulous.
Our opinions on Alonso are now validated: “When DIEGO is looking at you like you’re a complete idiot…you probably are”. Amen Kat, Amen. That said, “Still, Diego wants to be the godfather? Now I'M looking at you both like you're idiots”. Sigh.
I got teary eyed several times last night. The first was Irene and Tad congratulating each other as mother and father. My favorite couple, hands down! Tad has to get the transplant and survive. He simply must.
The next was Paolo and Carmen's sweet comforting of Mara. Her mother was a monster in life and will be in death.
Second favorite couple? Kim and Morales. Just love them together. As you noted Kim, the man is the complete package and loves you. And brings/gives you sweets. Good heavens woman, what else is there??
OK, in the interest of full disclosure, I am feeling sorry for Brig (see, I didn't even call her "Brat"). I think Alberto will forgive her but not want to stay with her. He will love the child I predict though.
tofie, "Nat - your fantasy guy knocked up your sister, will that finally do it?". Ummm, and there you have it!
Judy, still laughing at "Nogoodnik" and "Screwyounik" which was great!
Kat, thank you. Sensational.
Diana
Paolo is the best. He's like the universe's apology to Mara for her crappy mother.
Alberto may be the best man in this TN (aside from Paolo of course, who is just about perfect). While it may not be an obvious choice, what about Mally? I think she is sweet with a good heart.
Vivi? Patio?
Diana
Vivi, thanks for your list. The people you mentioned do make this tn fun. I find it great that most of us think Lupita should have her own show w/El.
Rod is much more suited to Nat and could handle the spoiled drama queen
I'd watch the El & Lupita Variety Show.
I agree that being pregnant could be a real turning point for Brat, and make her wake up and stop thinking only about herself. We'll see. I could see Alberto accepting her with another man's baby, after cooling off for a bit. But I really don't want that for him. She deserves to live with the consequences of her actions (and move up from there), and he deserves to start with someone who knows his value from the start.
Lol, Karen...hate-watchers...ohhhh yes...day after day after day of "I hate this show! It's completely ridiculous! I'm never watching again!" And all I can think is "Well, they must be having more fun hating it than they let on?"
¡me meo de risa!
Can´t imagine Brat pregnant, she will need maternity clothes or even she will be showing more than she wants.
At least Nat & Diego didn't break up, but I'm sure we haven't seen the last of them.
Hate watchers ---My 1st & last was FELS. I give them a chance, thinking, hoping, they will get better, but now I KNOW Los Mejias's novelas NEVER get better, only WORSE, etc, etc., so don't even bother trying.
At least Rod was right about Alberto being dumb enough to accept the Brat, however I think Alberto is SMART enough to want to know who the baby daddy is.
JudyB, I don't really think of myself as a writer, but if there's a job that consists of sitting around in the writers room while the rest of them figure out what to write and vetoing the bad ideas, that I can do! Bonus points if they serve good snacks.
Variopinta, I don't know if I'm excited or frightened to see what she ends up with in the way of maternity wear. I wonder if she'll go with a "big tent" style or a "show off the bump" look?
Vivi...plus the facial expression...I mean a perma-scowl plus a perma-sneer...it's going to be a dead giveaway!
After TdA I swore off Mr. Mejia. I probably shouldn't be so quick to judge, but I am.
Here it is in English
And Spanish
Actually, I'm wondering how the actress kept up that sour puss. I hope we see her after the novela laughing on a talk show.
So much here about parenting skills. Mara's mad/bad Mom will leave a nasty scar as she goes out of this world cursing her lovely daughter whom she does not deserve but I agree that Paolo is the universe's gift to Mara. What a sweet pie. And we get to see Carmen exhibit her deep loving nature not jealous or feeling lost in a sea of inadequacy. Did I miss something again about Natalia having Rod fantasies?? How could she be turned on by an abusive, decisive, would be-rapist who thinks only of himself??? When did that happen?
So Tad and Irene should get past the glow of secret parenthood and get to that donor conversation with Natalia that we all want to save him.
Alonso and Karina are scary as prospective parents in their dual unstable worlds that substitute fantasy parenthood for the hard realities to come. Maybe Irene will see the real Alonso here and appreciate the real grownup she gets to live with if Tad makes it. I hope so.
Bratina and Karina can be little lost single moms hoping for that big apartment in the sky as they try to inveigle commitment out of two unloving baby daddies. At least Alonso might actually have good fatherly feelings for his bidnezz-baby. Big sweet Al could step in to keep Bratina's baby from turning into a total sociopath with his or her unfortunate DNA donors.
Keep the humor in postings and remember our old friend Chris Ferro who was very active when I found this blog many years ago. It is in the header of the blog each day: "We love to mock here, don't mistake it for real hate." -- Chris Ferro
Good question, Variopinta...I think she had a sort of neutral-ish expression without a sneer when she was saying good night to Carmen after the birthday party.
I do wonder when the three some who have a chance at a real business will push off from Grumps and Rod and even sulky sister Brat. If they don't I can't imagine they can make the business survive. No one is willing to make decisions except Grumps who only decides NO and Rod who only decides what can he screw up next...
Diva, I love the voting commercials in both languages. Did you make these?? Marvelous!
The whole thing with staying under Caprico and not suing to split off Eskenda was supposed to be that if they made such a big change before they'd even put out their first collection, it was going to make them look flaky. So they stayed on the condition that they be allowed to leave after--no muss, no fuss. It sucks, because if they just abandon the company and start over, it will always follow them that their original clothing line failed. They almost have to stay and hope they can pull it together and fake like nothing went wrong.
