Lo Que la Vida Me Robó Lunes 7/28/14 #183

Chapter 183: Life in the Balance

Church Steps: Two of Pedro's goons drove up in the black van. One hit Father Anselmo to the ground, then they grabbed Rosario and forced her into the car. Alejandro saw this from half a block away and ran. The car pulled away. He didn't catch up to the car in time. “Pedro Medina is behind this. He's taken my mother. What do I do now?”

Naval Base: Carlota and Monserrat went to the base so Carlota could talk to her worthless husband. Dimitrio told them they could not; he was being interrogated. Carlota insisted on staying until that was over.

I won't leave until I have spoken with my husband. I have every right,” she said. Nothing was going to change her mind. Dimitrio knew his aunt well.

In the interrogation room, Refugio was determined to break Basurto.

Who is The Scorpion?” he said, as he stood over him.

Not so fast, Refugio” said Basurto. “Because that information will be for Dimitrio. When I'm on a plane waiting to take me out of Mexico. Not before.”

Until now I have been very patient with you,” said Refugio. “and of course I have all the time in the world to listen to what you have to say.”

That's good.”

You are in no position to impose conditions. If you want us to help you you will tell us all you know about The Scorpion and about Pedro Medina.”

Basurto grinned as though he had just gotten dealt a royal flush.

You're going to spend a lot of time with us,” Refugio continued as he sat down. “You don't know this, but the Navy's legal team is working to revoke your immunity. They told me that if they succeed you will never see the light of day again. If you don't want that to happen, talk before it's too late. Start talking.”

Very well. The Scorpion is... My ticket will be for a foreign country, right? I won't reveal anything until I'm out of the country. But for the moment I know where he's hiding so you can arrest him today.”

Police Station: Alejandro charged into Mad Dog Álvarez' office. He was angrier than a bull at Pamplona. He grabbed the police chief's shirt lapels and bared his teeth.

Where is Pedro Medina hiding? Where can I find him? He just kidnapped my mother!”

Let go of me,” Mad Dog said, almost calmly.

Calm down,” said Father Anselmo.

Tell me where Pedro Medina is!”

Let go of me!” Mad Dog shouted. He shoved Alejandro back and stared him down.

I know you have it in for me. You can kill me if you want. Now. I'm here. Take out your pistol and shoot, but don't let my mother get hurt.”

Mad Dog moved closer until he was right in Alejandro's face. “I am incapable of harming Doña Rosario,” he said.

Please, please, José Luis,” said Father Anselmo. “If you've been in contact with Pedro Medina, tell us. Doña Rosario's life is in danger.”

Don't let this be part of your revenge,” said Alejandro.

Are you not listening?” said Mad Dog. “I have nothing against her.”

Don't lie. You haven't forgiven her for her helping Monserrat and me to be together. You threw her out of the house.”

Yes. I threw her out because she also lied to me. Your mother helped my wife meet you for a tryst in a hotel. For that I made her leave just as you once made Monserrat leave when you thought she was cheating on you with me. You did it first yourself.”

Don't justify your actions.”

No, no, no, no, no. I'm not justifying. I'm fed up with being criticized for mistakes you also made. With all your stubbornness you are no better than anyone else.”

Where is Pedro Medina?”

Didn't you listen? I don't know.” He sat down at his desk.

Alejandro leaned over the desk into his face. “I don't believe you, jerk. You and he are in cahoots to destroy me.”

Mad Dog got up from his desk. “To bring you down I don't need anyone's help. I can do it alone.”

Please, please!” Father Anselmo had had enough. “That's enough, please! I beg you for this one time to put your personal problems aside. You both should be worried about Doña Rosario. It would be better to work together to find her. Don't you understand?”

The two men stared at each other, but said nothing.

The Scorpion's Nest: Adolfo was sitting on his couch when Pedro Medina forced the door open. He walked in with two goons behind him, then cleared his throat.

I've been expecting you, Pedro.”

First, let me applaud you, Scorpion,” he said. He leaned over and clapped his hands loudly less than six inches from Adolfo's face. Adolfo stared back in hatred. “You tried to avenge yourself on me to show your power. Once again you have profoundly deceived me. Ezekiel is alive and in the past forty-eight hours he's been hiding.”

I shot him, Pedro. I didn't know he was wearing a bullet-proof vest.”

Pedro sat at the other end of the couch. “You've been playing games with me to buy time. You know, idiot, I only need to make one call to see to it that you never see Josefina again for the rest of your miserable life.”

I will fix this situation if you let me.”

Right now Ezekiel in the hands of the Navy. He's not easy to get to. And he's going to talk. And the Navy is going to know that Adolfo Argüelles is The Scorpion.”

I swear, Pedro. This time tomorrow Ezekiel will be dead. I ask for 24 hours more.”

Pedro grinned back. He looked like an escaped mental patient.

Very well. This time you better not screw up. You know what's at stake.” He got up and left with his goons.

Naval Base: Refugio escorted Basurto out into the reception area. Carlota and Monserrat stared at him, Monserrat with no emotion and Carlota with despair. As soon as he was close enough Carlota hauled off and slapped him hard.

How could you do this to me?” she asked, starting to cry. “The whole world warned me and I never distrusted you. And you know why? Because I loved you. I swear I loved you.” She wiped her tears and took a short step closer. “Answer me, you jerk. Why did you marry me? For my name? My social position?” He looked down, unable to face her. “Very well, don't answer. It's very clear to me.” She grabbed his hair and pulled his head up to face her. “You did it to become mayor because you knew that without me you were nobody. Nobody would blame you. It was so easy to deceive a fat old maid like me?”

Monserrat put her hand on Carlota's shoulder. “Don't hurt yourself any more, Aunt.”

I'm not going. I want to hear what this coward has to say to me.”

Don't believe that, Carlota,” he said. “I was also in love with you.”

Liar! You never loved me!”

Monserrat had been studying him through this. “Garbage. That's what you are.”

Yes; I agree with you,” he said. He was a born politician. “That's why I got into your family. To be equal to all of you. Starting with your mother and then you.” Carlota slapped him again.

That's for my niece and my family. You never respected us.”

Lieutenant, take him back to his cell.” Dimitrio was too disgusted to witness more.

Yes, of course,” Refugio answered. He shoved him past the desk. Carlota cried harder. Monserrat and Dimitrio embraced her.

Almonte House: Victor was on the phone with Alejandro. He had just been told what happened.

Yes, don't worry, Alejandro,” he said into the phone. “The baby is alright. Neither Nadia nor I have encountered anything suspicious here. Yes, I'll pick Laurito up from school and bring him directly here to your house. I agree. Please keep me updated.” He ended the call.

Victor, what's happening?” Nadia asked. She was holding Romina.

That's precisely what I want to know,” said Gracie. No one had heard her enter the room.

Doña Rosario has just been kidnapped.” Victor said. Nadia feared for her. Gracie registered nada.

Police Station: Monserrat and Carlota were waiting in reception when Alejandro came out of Mad Dog's office.

Alejandro, what are you doing here?”

Pedro Medina has my mother.”

They took her as we were coming out of the church,” said Father Anselmo. “I couldn't do anything.”

Are you satisfied now?” Monserrat asked Mad Dog. “None of this would have happened if you hadn't helped Pedro Medina escape from the authorities.”

I won't listen to your comments. For your information, I'm here to help your husband.”

Where is my baby?” she asked Alejandro.

She's at home with Victor and Nadia. Everything is alright. Victor will go to the school to pick up Lauro and Victoria. The Navy is watching the house.”

Alejandro, if you and I are going to save your mother we've got to get going now,” Mad Dog whispered.

Yes,” Alejandro agreed.

We'll have her back safe and sound,” Mad Dog quietly said to Monserrat.

The two walked out together. Monserrat stared in disbelief. Now Carlota had to comfort her.

Naval Base: Dimitrio stared back at Ezekiel.

Now you know where Medina is.”

Yes. And you are determined to put him in prison today. The only thing I ask is to be present when he's captured. I want that crook to look me in the eye and know I was the one who turned him in.”

Alejandro and Mad Dog came in.

Pedro Medina kidnapped my mother.”

What? How long ago? When did this happen?”

Just over an hour ago.”

We effectively have 24 hours to get her back,” Mad Dog said. “We've got to move.”

You will have nothing to do with this,” Dimitrio said.

Like it or not, I am part of this investigation,” Mad Dog Said.

I agree with Dimitrio,” said Refugio. “We suspect you of helping this criminal. We don't trust you to go on this with us.”

What are you talking about? I never helped this criminal. I want to save Doña Rosario. Shut your mouths, imbeciles.”

Basurto was amused. “Isn't it obvious that the person who was helping Medina is The Scorpion? If you want to save Doña Rosario, you need me.”

Mad Dog stared at him. He didn't like this. In fact, none of the others did either.

Night

Forest on Almonte Ranch: Pedro walked through the tall trees with his henchmen behind him.

You'll stand there on watch so nobody can get near. I tell you that here one of my men died. My chief of police. Just as much an idiot as you two. But always, all his life he was loyal. He never betrayed me like that coward, Basurto. José Luis Álvarez hasn't yet begun to pay for that death. But that's life. I want you to observe a moment of silence for Efraín Loreto.”

The two men must have thought he was completely nuts.

Shack (Location unknown, but probably on the Almonte estate): Rosario sat in its single room, doing her best to remain calm. She had experienced many ugly things in her life. She hadn't deserved any of them. She knew that whatever was coming was likely to be the worst. Or the last. Pedro entered and his henchman closed the door behind him. She stood up.

What a pleasure to see you, Doña Rosario,” he said. “Seriously. With all respect, you deserved this. Prepare yourself for the death of that bastard, your son.”

I'm not afraid of you,” she said. “Of course I would give my life for my son's. Although I know perfectly well you would kill me this moment, I beg that you do him no harm.”

But don't be mistaken, my dear Doña Rosario,” he said. “Because Alejandro's nightmare is only beginning.”

Why do you hate my son so much? What has he done that you are hurting him like this?”

Your son changed my life. It's his damned fault that I am not a whole man.”

Rosario was both shocked and confused. “What do you mean by that?”

I hope your son is prepared to give his life for you,” he said, ignoring her question.

Rosario's tears doubled. She got on her knees. “No, no. Not that, I implore you. I know that a mother's tears aren't much to you, but what more can I do for my son? I would pay that price for him. Give me all the pain you want but swear to me you'll leave my son and his family alone.”

Pedro helped her up until she looked him in the eye. “I'm not thinking of killing you, Señora,” he said. “Not yet. You'll be here for a few days, no more. I recommend you make yourself comfortable. There is sufficient and very good food.” He led her to the bed and thumped the mattress. “And a good bed to rest yourself. Sit down, please.” He led her to it. “Whatever else happens, don't forget that there is a guard outside.”

Have some compassion, please,” she cried. “I beg you! Let me save my son! Let me save – ”

Don't make this more complicated, Doña Rosario. Your son cannot be saved. Good night.”

He walked out. Rosario sat on the foot of the bed and cried.

Almonte House: Gracie sat in Rosario's place on the couch in the parlour, drinking tea. She looked up to see her grandson enter. She asked him to sit with her. He obeyed because he had been taught to respect his elders.

What happened?” she asked. “Why are you so sad, my love?” She moved him closer to himself. He did his best not to show his discomfort. “I know you're sad because you're very worried about me. Surely your parents told you I'm very sick.”

No. They didn't tell me anything.”

Well, yes, my love. That's why I'm living with you because I need lots of love.” She hugged the boy, who looked as though he wished he were in his room. She conveniently forgot why he always kept his distance. “Much love from my family.”

Don't worry,” he said. “I know you will be alright.”

Oh, my love, you don't know,” she said. “But, well, if not for me, why are you like this?”

It's about Grandma Rosario.” Gracie's annoyance was obvious. “Something is wrong but nobody will say what. Where is my grandma? Why has she been gone all day”

Because, look, others will lie to you but I won't. I always tell the truth. Listen well.”

Where is my grandma?”

Ay, love, most likely your grandma is in heaven taking care of everyone. There are bright stars and one that's the brightest of all. That would be your grandma.”

She died?” Lauro almost shouted. “No, no, Grandma, no!” He started to cry. That was when Gracie decided to embrace him. “You're here with your grandma Graciela. I'm here.”

Alejandro and Monserrat arrived at that moment. She immediately saw her son's distress.

Are you crying, love? What's wrong?”

I knew Grandma Rosario wasn't well but now she's dead!”

Come here, come here,” said Alejandro. He picked up his son as Monserrat stared at her mother. She was both shocked and angry.

In moments like this it's better to tell the truth, eh? Don't look at me like that.” Gracie still thought she was queen of the castle. “It's not good to give a child false hopes. You have to teach them.”

Teach them,” said Monserrat, ironically. “Oh, please!” She led Alejandro toward the boy's room to help him prepare for bed. She stared back at her mother. “You and I will talk later, Mother.”

Gracie made a dismissive gesture. She still didn't get it.

In the children's room, Nadia was playing with the girls. She handed Romina back to Monserrat and left the room with Victoria. Monserrat put Romina to bed while Lauro asked about his grandma. Monserrat told him she was in the hospital because she didn't feel well. She suggested they pray that Rosario would be well enough to come home in the morning. Lauro knelt between his parents and they all prayed.

Solares House: Virginia Arechiga was playing with little Angel. She thought out loud about how much it would have pleased Angélica to be there with them. Esmeralda explained it was difficult to get him to sleep. They talked about Pedro and how much he hurt others. Virginia never knew why her mother had married him. Amelia had never answered her questions about that. It had been very difficult for Virginia to be away from her mother and her sister. She knew that Pedro had been responsible for her father's death. She had always felt like an after-thought compared with her sister. Esmeralda tried to reassure her that was not the case. Erik arrived to escort Esmeralda to work. Virginia introduced herself when she saw him. She definitely liked what she saw.

Esmeralda put her son into his crib and handed him a toy. Erik sang him a lullaby and the child was asleep within seconds.

Police Station: Dimitrio and Refugio were there to plan the rescue. Except when Refugio talked about how much he missed his wife and son, Mad Dog had to put his two centavos in. Dimitrio got on his case over what he had been doing lately to Monserrat. This led to more talk about the Navy's suspicions of him as Pedro Medina's accomplice. Mad Dog finally told them that while he has his differences with Alejandro he will help save innocent people like his mother. He suggested they all rest up.

Almonte House, Gracie's Room: Monserrat entered, prepared for battle. She had been fighting her mother most of her adult life but it never got any easier.

I don't understand what you gain by upsetting my son,” she began.

I only believe in preparing him to prevent him from – “

I am his mother. It's up to me to talk to him about that. You don't have the right to interfere.”

I don't believe you think it's better when it's likely that Rosario will not return – “

Very well, Mother, very well.” She turned away for a moment.

Please, Monserrat. Medina didn't take Rosario for a walk to avenge himself on your husband.”

You win. You are making me even more angry.”

Whom do you think gave your half-sister the pistol with which she took her own life?” That caught Monserrat's attention. Exactly as Gracie intended it to. “Exactly. It was that miserable wretch. Pedro Medina. He is guilty of me losing my Fabiola.”

Mother, you hurt her big time. You fleeced her out of all the money and went on a trip to enjoy that fortune. You left her alone.”

Gracie began her crocodile song. “I did it for you. I gave you the final evidence to help Alejandro prove his innocence. I told you that would condemn Fabiola to a prison term. She had committed a crime and had to pay for it. It would have been worse to help her escape. I came back on the day she was freed. It wasn't a coincidence. I came back for Fabiola. To be with my daughter after she completed her sentence.”

I didn't know, Mother.”

Did you never think to help her? To see her in the prison with the alcoholism which was slowly killing her? To see her serve her time so she owed nothing to the justice system? Fabiola and I would have been together again.”

Don't go on, Mother. You aren't well.”

That damned Pedro lost no time. He got to her first. He poisoned her against me. He gave her the pistol and she – “

Monserrat had climbed onto the bed and began to comfort her mother. Which was exactly what Gracie had been looking for.

Medina Prison House: María Zamudio paced the floor. Pedro arrived and told his thugs to wait outside. He poured himself something on the rocks.

It's likely that by this time tomorrow, I'll be a dead man, Maria,” he said.

Do you want that?”

That rat Ezekiel has been helping the Navy. They are going to find that peasant woman.”

Meanwhile I'll do whatever you want. I don't think you'll die.”

What I think for sure is the nightmare will continue. I'd prefer a thousand deaths.”

What are you going to tell your men to do?”

If I don't survive this, I want you to kill Señora Rosario.”

That would be my pleasure.” She grinned. Sick bitch.

Almonte House, Master Bedroom: Alejandro returned home to find Monserrat weary. All the danger and anxiety had been piling up. He assured her they would survive this.

The Next Day

Almonte House: Alejandro was about to leave to join the police and the Navy rescue team.

Take care of yourself. Swear to me nothing is going to happen to you.”

I promise.”

Are you sure? It's very dangerous.” Monserrat knew she couldn't stand to lose him again.

I know but I have to be there to help rescue my mother. I give my word I'll do what it takes to bring her home alive.”

She took out a religious medallion. “This is the medallion from Lauro's baptism and the day we were married.” She pressed it into his hand. “It was blessed by Father Anselmo. It's taken care of our son all those years and now it will take care of you, my love.”

Thanks.” They kissed and exchanged a long look before he left. Monserrat was still worried.

Naval Base: Refugio gave instructions to Ezekiel. He had a microphone concealed in a pen so they could listen and record his conversation with Pedro Medina.

You remember what's at stake here?” asked Dimitrio.

Of course. My freedom!”

Rosario's life. Imbecile.”

Ah, well, that, too,” he said, a little too casually. He laughed as though he held a royal flush in a high-stakes game.

Your departure out of the country depends on our finding Rosario alive,” Refugio reminded him.

If you do anything wrong, if you screw up, we will happily destroy you,” Dimitrio said.

Don't threaten me,” Basurto said. He turned to Refugio. “And you don't touch me. Up to now I have been cooperating with you. If my help doesn't put Pedro in your hands I'd be risking my life for that woman.”

You don't have a life. You are a slave.”

Basurto tried to get sarcastic, but Refugio stopped him and turned the chair to face himself.

Of course we are counting on your complete assistance,” he said.

The only condition I ask for my encounter with Pedro Medina is to carry a gun.”

The officers laughed.

Would you like a bazooka? Or some grenades? We have a priest's robe you can hide it in.”

Basurto got up and reached for the pen. “You know perfectly well then we don't have a deal.” Refugio shoved him back into the seat.

Fool.”

No, no, Dimitrio. I'm just a man who wants to save his own skin. My life may be worth nothing to you but I'll have to defend it so I can get out of there alive.”

Dimitrio and Refugio exchanged looks.

Maria's Apartment: She opened the door to leave, but Adolfo stepped in.

Where are you going in such a hurry, Maria?”

That's of no importance to you,” she said.

I hope you haven't forgotten your promise because you and I have to talk.”

I don't have time to talk,” she said. He grabbed her arm. “Let go of me! You're hurting me.”

He forced her back into her living room.

Shut up and listen to me!”

Who is going to listen is you. You won't treat me like this.”

Are you OK?”

Being badly treated by Alejandro was enough.”

Are you referring to Pedro Medina?”

Are you crazy? You know perfectly well that when that man finds me he'll kill me.”

Someone has been helping Pedro all along. It's clear that it's not Ezekiel. I want you to tell me this minute if you're in contact with him. Talk!”

You should be grateful for what I've done for you. Thanks to me Ezekiel didn't sell you out to the Navy. You'd be dead by now. Or in jail.”

Oh, really? Why hasn't he opened his mouth yet about me being The Scorpion? Because thanks to you that's his best bargaining chip with them. What else have you done? Are you the one who's hiding Pedro? Answer me!”

Don't spit all that out.”

Answer me!”

Why is that such a big deal? The only thing important here is that you and I are out of danger.”

Maria, please. I ask you to be careful what you do. If I discover that you've done me dirty, with all the pain in my heart I will have to kill you.”

She turned her head away slightly as he left.

If I don't kill you first,” she whispered to herself.

Medina Prison House: Pedro sat in semi-darkness. One of his guards came in.

Señor Ezekiel is here to see you.”

Send him in.”

Yes, sir.” He went out for a moment and returned with Basurto. “He only had a pistol and a pen on him.” He was holding the two items.

Put them on the table.” The guard obeyed and went out.

I've been waiting for you, Ezekiel. I suppose you're here because the Navy sent you. To investigate about Alejandro's mother. Is that it?”

You suppose well.”

You don't have a microphone?” Basurto chuckled. “I had them search you, but they didn't find any.”

Of course. Dear Pedro, dear Pedro, you are lost.” He fixed himself a drink at the bar. “Lost. The entire Navy and the whole Aguazul police force is about to come in here after you any moment now. And you know what? They're going to arrest you.”

Look, Ezekiel, while Rosario's life is in my hands they won't touch me.”

No. They're not going to kill you. But they will lock you up in jail for the rest of your life.”

Sit down.”

No.”

Pedro stood up and they circled each other for a few steps.

Lately I was remembering Efrain Loreto,” Pedro said. “I just visited the place where José Luis Álvarez killed him.”

How romantic.”

You,” said Pedro, gesturing with his drink, “couldn't fill his shoes as police chief in Aguazul. Promoting you was the worst mistake I made in my entire life. I'm sorry I ever helped a loser like you. You should have remained an ordinary cop without a future.”

So you say. Where are you keeping Rosario?”

Police Van: On a nearby block, Mad Dog Álvarez was listening to their conversation on a headset. The technician near him made sure the recording was clear. Alejandro was in the back seat.

You know I'm not going to tell you that,” said Pedro.

I'll make you a deal,” said Ezekiel, picking up the pen and indicating it was a spy device. “The Navy won't hear us anymore.” He broke the pen open and put the live ends in the cocktail glass. Static came in to the headphones. Mad Dog removed his headset.

We lost them,” said the technician.

This can't be! Don't tell me he broke the microphone!” Alejandro shouted. Dimitrio hit the side of the van in frustration.

How long before we rush him so he doesn't escape?” Dimitrio asked.

Wait a minute,” said Mad Dog. “We still have hope he can get the information. We can still go in to capture him.”

Yes, calm down,” said Refugio. “What's important is where to find Doña Rosario.”

Ezekiel is only trying to save his own skin,” said Dimitrio.

He's right. My mother's life doesn't matter to him.”

Hey, Ezekiel knows that the only way we'll help him leave the country is to get this information. He has to have Medina's confidence to get him to tell us where your mother is. If we arrest Medina first he won't tell us anything and we won't be able to rescue your mother.”

Of course. Everyone get ready.”

Pedro's Prison House: Ezekiel kept trying, but it was hard to see what he was trying to achieve.

Now nobody can hear us, Pedro,” he said.

What are you saying? They can still come in any minute to arrest me.”

You know that Rosario's life means very little to me,” Ezekiel said. “I'm here for other reasons.”

To enjoy my downfall.”

Yes.”

You'd love to see me completely humiliated.”

Completely. I will really love to see you in front of them with your neck in a sling. You will be humiliated. And when you're in prison and your cellmates discover that you don't have.... You know what they're going to do you.” He paused. “But because I respect you I will give you an exit deserved by the great Pedro Medina.” He picked up the pistol.

I hear you,” said Pedro. He took a sip of his liquor.

There is no escape. In a few minutes all those men are coming in here for you. As your friend, take the gun.” He placed it in Pedro's hand and moved the hand up so that the muzzle was in Pedro's jawbone. “Shoot yourself. I will walk out of here alive. I'm giving you the opportunity to take control over your own death. And the only way is to take your own life this minute, you damned dog.”

So you think. Like this?”

Yes. Good way to get revenge. It's what I would have done.”

Why are you throwing away the time? Make the decision. Shoot. Shoot. Shoot, asshole!”

Pedro closed his eyes for only a moment, then looked back at him.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

Due to technical difficulties that often occur toward the end of a series I was unable to provide screen shots for tonight's episode. Please do not make that a subject for discussion in future comments.

This announcement will be repeated next week if necessary.

We now return to our regularly-scheduled discussion.

URBAN, good work! :^)

Does anyone else wonder how El Alacran earned his reputation?

Hopefully this is the end of Rosario! I can only take so much whining! Monseratt, Gracie and Rosario crying can really work my nerves!

I want to quit watching, but I'm invested in it.

I don't understand how Pedro controls the henchmen. I'd kinda be embarrassed about working for a mafia don with no balls. Wouldn't all the other thugs make fun of them? So that means that he must pay them well. In that case, who is bankrolling him? Someone has to hate the people that he hates more than he does. We have to find that person and then we will know.

I thought it was funny that when the characters need to, they always find a spot to park right in front of the building they are going to visit. However, this time when Rosario was kidnapped, of course Ale was parked so far away from the church entrance that he had to run a mile to try to catch up with the kidnappers. Remember, Monse parking her jeep (defaced) in front of the church? Ha

Why did Alex stop running at the church? If someone kidnapped my mom, I would have ran until ripped off the bumper (Steve Harvey joke). He says that he may not be able to stop the car, but he would have the bumper. You'd have to see him tell the joke. It's not funny unless you see him do it.

Thanks for the recap UA. It was lovely and don't worry about the lack of screen shots.

Though the writers how made JL horrible, I'm quite relieved that Maria is Pedro's helper. I don't understand why she would help him based on how he has and continues to abuse her (in addition to all of his other stellar qualities) but she doesn't make good decisions she.

Gracie never ceases to amaze me with her manipulation and was sad to see Montse fall for it hook, line, and sinker.

Urban:

Thanks so much for this fantastic recap!

I was surprised that Peddy treated Rosy with such deference. He always smacks women around and I was hoping that wouldn't happen to Rosy. I am so glad it didn't.

So where is Amelia if Virginia is watching Angel? Virgina has matured, I have to say. I don't think Amelia ever told Virgina the truth to keep her out of harm's way, just in case, so to speak.

I am so glad finally, that JL, Ale, Dimi and Refug are finally working together to take Peddy down. I wish they had joined forces sooner.

I can't wait for Gaudy's anvil, enough of her crapola already. I can't stand what she did to Laurito and Monse falls for Guady's crap too often. I have to say Guady is good at what she does.

Oh, please don't give BM a gun. I can't stand it and I hope she doesn't kill Rosy. That would be too much. Sorry Carlos but I hope the Navy or JL takes BM out. Enough of her crap too.

EZ is very selfish only loves himself and what he can get for himself. I really thought maybe he was a good guy, not so much now. He is a parasite. I can't wait for his anvil too.

So now Peddy is going to avenge himself on JL too. Seems no one is safe from Peddy. Does anyone think he will actually pull the trigger? I can't wait for tomorrow night to find out!

Well done, Urban! Your colorful retelling allowed us to visualize the scenes beautifully.

It looks like this episode marks the beginning of the rehabilitation of the character formerly known as Mad Dog (though I STILL can't stand the guy).

And Basurto is so foul that even Montse calls him a BASURA. [Do you think she overheard the Patio talking about him?]

So Graciela strikes a low low blow (wouldn't she love it if Rosario were safely ensconced in heaven) and then manages to manipulate Montserrat into sympathizing with her. ugh.

I can't believe we'll be lucky enough to get rid of Pedro or Ezequiel when we still have thirteen episodes to go...but a Maven can hope, right?

I hated and loved the EZ scene at the same time, even if he is just a selfish parasite:),i laughed at his poor treatment by the Navy! I love watching Alexis Ayala, that actor is amazing. The last scene reminded me of the scene where Pedro forced EZ to shoot himself but the gun was actually empty, could that be the same now? I wonder if he brought some cyanide along so they could off themselves together just like Eva Braun and Adolf Hitler! Heil Pedro,Heil EZ:)

Pedro is truly the Son of Hitler, the scene with Rosario was disgusting,he did not hit her physically but he hurt her mentally,he loves playing with his victims before killing them.Thats the sign of a pure psychopath and a sociopath.

Gaudy is totally faking it,no dying person would put her grandchildren to such mental torture, the way she manipulated Monse was disgusting too. Gracielas only known illneses at the moment is bullying!

Urban A,
Your recap was awesome! A delight to read. And don't worry, your recap was great, no need for screen shots.

EZ is Basura. Just like the patio had discussed long ago. He deserves an anvil as bad as Peddy's for hurting Carlota. I don't think that he's going to get Rosy's location out of Peddy. EZ just wants Peddy behind bars, and to high tail it out of the country. He could care less if they find Rosy.

No spoiler, but I doubt that Peddy will shoot himself. Peddy still wants revenge on Ale. Besides, we need to see Peddy SUFFER!

Cynderella,
You said, "Why did Alex stop running at the church?" Are you criticizing our beautiful Ale? Remember that as a member of the Ale table, we can not question Ale at any time because he can do no wrong. I think that he stopped because he knows that he can not outrun a moving vehicle. Yes, he is physically fit, but he is also smart.

I hated what Gracie did. She had no right to tell Laurito that his grandma was dead. First of all, she doesn't even know if that's true, and second it is not her place to say.

Fatima,
Yes add me to the group of people that say Gracie is a faker. As always I am at the Ale table, but I pass very good and detailed notes, so please add me to the list. And thanks for the info on Downtown Abbey. And Madelaine, I will let you know my thoughts on DA as soon as I start watching it.

Thanks again Urban!

Off to sleep...hasta pronto!

Wonderful job on the recap, Urban.

Victoria-yeah, they always have a parking space, Funny that.

Madelaine: I thought the brain tumor was Gracie's karmaggedon, but she's sure acting like she doesn't have one. If she's faking how did she fake the CT scan?

Aldolfo earned his reputation by ruthlessly killing other drug cartel, uh, persons and then by keeping himself unknown.

Emarie,Gracie might have paid the doctor so me might have faked the CT -scan for her. And Adolfo is a very crappy assasin ,he could have shot EZ in the head and it wouldnt hurt if he shot Peddy a couple more times when he had the chance! You know,to kill him,if he did the job there wouldnt be for this nightmare in Aguazul.

he might have faked the CT-scan*

Thanks, guys.

I agree that Virginia did get a raw deal. She deserves to know the reason she was sent away and she deserves a full explanation.

Pedro should suffer more than any other male villain I think I've seen. When Fernando Escandon offed himself in FELS I was disappointed and felt like throwing something. He was responsible for so many deaths in that series and he escaped the long arm of the law (which wasn't corrupt in that little town). Basurto described what most of us want to see happen to Pedro, but that doesn't make it a prediction.

And wasn't Gracie so clever to work that guilt trip on Monse when she's already worried about Rosario? She would make an excellent dictator of a small third-world country. Once this situation is resolved I hope Alejandro decides that she needs to be somewhere else. I certainly wouldn't want anyone like her near any child of mine.

UA, your conversation translations brought this to life while clarifying what was said and done with sharp insight. This was marvelous.

“He was angrier than a bull at Pamplona” was among my favorites.

Carlota's heart has been broken and although her spirit is pulsating with grief and anger, she will survive. I admire her spunk for confronting EZ and making him admit the truth. I do think that part of the truth was that he did love her. As much as he was capable of. I enjoyed her grabbing his hair and pulling his head. She has always "womanhandled" him (picking him up) and I enjoyed the fact she wasn't broken enough to exact this little physical revenge.

"I'm fed up with being criticized for mistakes you also made. With all your stubbornness you are no better than anyone else.” Ahhh.

Some new credit changes. Also, there’s a lot to speculate with all of our couples. Has Virginia turned her sights on Erik? Is Esme true competition or is this just a friendship that is supposed to make us think she won’t end up back with Refugio? It will be fun to find out as I have no idea now who will end up with who.

Graciela still slithers salaciously.

I don't think Pedro will pull the trigger. I think it's too soon for him to die (but looking at the history here there have been many surprising early deaths, so..)Regardless, EZ masterfully maniupulated him.

Count, you summed it up perfectly: "I hated and loved the EZ scene at the same time, even if he is just a selfish parasite"...And yes, Alexis Ayala is mesmerizing.

Madelaine, I am also glad that JL, Ale, Dimi and Refug are working together on this. Finally!

If Pedro does survive, which I speculate will occur, I hope he is captured quickly. His intrusive house visits are unnerving.

I am hoping Rosario will be rescused shortly.

Thanks again UA.

Diana

Great recap, Urban!

All of the bad guys are poised to do something drastic, but what will happen, we don't know. I'm looking forward to seeing how it all plays out.

I wish Amalia would tell Virginia the truth. The fact that Virginia still shows her mom so much love, even though she thinks her mom sent her away after her dad and sister died, so that she could go on happily with her life and marry Pedro, shows how forgiving she is. As for Erik, have he and Esme kissed yet? Could they just be friends and his real love connection be Virginia?

Naima,Welcome to the "Graciela is Faking It" table. :)The total number at this table, headed by Maricruz, now numbers 9, though I see that Demetrios/CountxAlacran might be ready to join the table as well.

Thank you very much, Urban. Why in the world would you apologize for not having screen shots?! Excellent work, as always.

Montserrat, just how much of an airhead are you anyway?

Maria, you are one sick and sickening person. You should live to see how you have made others suffer and you should have their suffering replayed over and over in your mind for the rest of your tormented life. You are beyond redemption. You do not deserve redemption.

As for JL, all of a sudden he does an about face?! Really?! Give me a break.

Fatima
Member, Crackpot Theorists™

This isn't an about face for JL. Just because the Patio assumed he was in league with Pedro doesn't make it so. He may have a sick relationship with Monse and Ale, but he has always hated Pedro and always wanted to take him down. After he found out Maria was lying about being lovers with Ale, he dropped her like a hot potato after a very brief partnership. He said it out loud to Maria-- he doesn't do alliances. He works alone. If he didn't continue to work with crazy Maria to harm Ale, Monse, and those they love, why would he work with Pedro, whom he has always hated? It never made sense. So yes, JL continues to be an obnoxious nutcase in his dealings with Ale and Monse, but he never became a supporter of criminals and drug cartels.

You can call me in too,Fatima:) And is it just me or that Victor and Nadia are SO boring, ever since the plane crash they dumbed down and are annoying me,i liked it when Nadia wasnt a blind donkey that she is now.I prefer Pedro 10x more then Vomit Boring Victor,i think he is one of the best characters in the novela, alongside Dimitrio and Adolfo,he is in fact the show! I do hope he receives a nasty anvil though for all the crimes he commited:)

And how did Pedro know that Rosario and Anselmo were going to the restaurant, does the restaurant have a mole or he has some nasty surveliance going on? And i pretty much dont believe in Kevin nor Erick, maybe i mistrust them because they are new characters but i think one of them is working for Pedro,my bet is on Erick. I mean Esme met him on the street,a stranger and then he just casually comes into La Escondida ,even into her room?

restaurant/church*

Naima, welcome.

I'm stopping by the Gracie Fakes It table for a cocktail because I'm still on the fence about this. We have no evidence to go on other than her history of manipulation and the fact that she now possesses enough dinero to do this. However...

If she is discovered to be faking it that will be the last trick she will ever be able to pull on her children. They will learn the truth and Monse will kick her out of the Almonte house. Of course, what happens next would depend on whether Pedro has fallen or not. Gracie might just be evil enough to side with Pedro against Alejandro at that point (in the belief that he turned Monse against her) or she might want to take him down for the enabling of Fabiola's suicide.

One more thing: The $50MM that Gracie fleeced Fabiola out of was stolen to begin with and Gracie was an accessory before the fact. She should be in prison for that. That still can happen and knowing the tender merciless medical care prisoners get it would be right that she not be faking it.

Now we have 10. Urban is giving it a very well thought out "thought". :)

We've see the payola go to doctors in a few TN. Look at the mother in "Cuando Me Enamoro". She paid the doc off to use someone else's CT scan. It all seemed to easy and everyone bought it hook, line, and sinker.

In any event, we shall see. I think Gaudencia is written as one of those evil characters who can and will turn on a dime. Gaudencia is the ultimate con artist.

Fatima
Member, Crackpot Theorists™

Urban, thanks for another great recap!

Graciela/Gaudencia has not lost a beat in being obnoxious and last night she was so extremely cruel to Laurito. She's just her wicked old self having found another way to weasel herself into Montse's life for her own benefit. Fatima, I might be joining your table soon.

Pedro was just as slimy with his scene with Rosario. Putting the gun in María's hand to kill Rosario? Don't like that at all.

I agree with everyone it is good to finally see JL, Ale, Refugio and Víctor all working together. Took long enough.

If Pedro would just follow Ezequiel's advice but we still have too many episodes available for him to terrorize everyone. Too bad. Thinking about it, the perfect evil family would be Pedro and Graciela with María for their child.

Jarifa

Aunty Ann, I did not criticize Alex, I noticed that he didn't work up enough "manly sweat" during his light-jog for his mother's abductors. I was thinking of the table's pleasure. Wouldn't the scene have been so much better if Alex had gotten all sweaty in his pursuit? Think of it! His shirt would have clung his body, displaying all of his muscles and secret crevices that the a dry shirt encumbers. If he would have put just a little more effort into the pursuit of his mother's abductors, we could be talking about how "hot" he looked when he got all sweaty. We could be fantasizing about comforting him and peeling that shirt off of him to towel him off. :^)

Awesome recap!

Really enjoyed this episode. Maybe bec the real JL showed his face. Also, how stupid is Ale? Instead of being sly to try to get JL to help him find his mother, he spews insults. Even thinking JL was helping Pedro, he could have been more clever.

Anyhoodle, hope JL take out BM. I think Ale would suffer if he was the one to do so.

Adolfo, Adolfo, feel like I'm just waiting for your downfall.

And lastly, I think we will finally see Pedro kill someone himself tonight. I think he will shoot EZ.

Dear Urban Anthropologist,

Thanks for yet another wonderful recap! I always enjoy reading your work with its excellent, detailed summary and extensive quotation of dialogue. Many thanks, as always.

I am burned out on this TN but the recaps and comments keep me hanging on!

Best to you and all!
Julia R.

The Last scene was a mimic of that scene in which Pedro was the one demanding EZ to shoot himself in the office, but the gun had no bullets.EZ is too smart to let Pedro kill him with his own gun,he knows well that Pedro would never fall for the trap,EZ is probably just taunting and filling him with BS.

I actually think that Pedro is too cowardly to off himself. Someone else will or he will be arrested. There are now solid charges that can be made against him. Enough to put him away forever.

So who will fall first, Gracie or Pedro?

Countx- Yes. They both realized this was a replay of when Pedro demanded that EZ shoot himself, back when EZ was a cop. Who knows how it will play out this time.

Carvivlie- Ale has never been very sharp. Neither he nor Monse are quick on the draw, and they both usually jump to the wrong conclusions and believe them to be facts (about JL and about each other). Remember how JL knew Pedro, Joaquin, Loreto, EZ, Juvie, and Maria were scum long before Ale did, and wouldn't trust them as far as he could throw them. Yet, Ale time and time again put his trust in these criminals (one result was being accused of drug cultivation when he leased his lands to Joaquin). Another was when Ale nearly got himself shot when he trusted Loreto enough to bring JL to him, when Loreto was really planning to kill Ale, but JL shot Loreto instead. And how about putting Juvie in charge of guarding Monse when he was always such a rapey lecher with her. The list goes on. Good thing he's so pretty. :)

I think they are leaving Pedro for the end,the worst people always die last. The best Graciela could get is a high prison sentence and abandonment by her family. As for Pedro i dont know, just jail is too easy for him ,he needs to be tortured, quick death would be way too easy too.Hopefully they wont dissapoint us with the anvils..

Why did those knuckleheads allow Ale to ride along on the stakeout. Did they deputize him?

Pedro told Rosario that Ale had made him an incomplete man and then sat her down on the bed. For a second there, I thought he was going to show her what he meant by that.

Here is hoping that somebody puts those puzzle pieces together and figures out that Pedro was the motorcyclist. Thus far only Basurto knows that Alejandro wasn't driving the pickup truck.

Vivi: Poor Laurito is going to need extra schooling to make up for his parents lack of smarts. But if he looks as good as them when he grows up I'm sure he'll get by :)

JL was always the smartest of the two which must be why Montse fell for Ale.

Oxnard: LOL to "Pedro told Rosario that Ale had made him an incomplete man and then sat her down on the bed. For a second there, I thought he was going to show her what he meant by that." How scary would that have been?!

That would have been horrifying, indeed.

UA: thanks for the great recap.

I don't think Gracie is faking it. She's going to use her illness to be as manipulative and destructive as she can for as long as she can. I suspect her final death bed words will be as hurtful and devastating as possible.

Oxnard: so did I!!!

Nanette

It would be a great thing if the last thing that happens before Gracie dies is to lose the power of speech.

I haven't changed my opinion of her anvil from the opening episode. It's going to be what she wished on Benjamin. That's what is most appropriate for her. Just as what Basurto said last night, which is what I had predicted and wish for Pedro.

Now, how about this: Adolfo gets arrested two episodes before the end, Pedro in the last, and Adolfo finishes him off in the prison.

UA: "Now, how about this: Adolfo gets arrested two episodes before the end, Pedro in the last, and Adolfo finishes him off in the prison."

Works for me.

Nanette

UA..Thanks for that excellent retelling. I especially appreciated all the dialogue.

I have to agree with Carvivlie that Ped will use that gun that EZ so kindly handed him to shoot EZ. I think that death is too easy and that Ped will go to jail to be subjected to the humiliation of the other prisoners, yikes I think that someone will finally take out Malria who has almost reached the bottom of the slippery slope that she has been sliding down since the very beginning of this novela. I think that Fofo will die defending either Fina or Nadia and Victoria or maybe all of them from Ped.

I have no idea how the writers will make Gracie pay for being a dreadful person and manipulating mother. Maybe just living out the rest of her days still unloved by anyone will be punishment enough.

When Gracie was terrorizing Lauro with the news that she thought his beloved abuela was dead , it reminded me of when my beloved maternal grandmother died and my less beloved paternal grandmother who was rather vain and self entered and not very motherly told me "We all have to be angels someday." My eleven year old mind thought "Que...you are not helping me, lady." She did not become an Angel until she was 96. I guess that selfcenteredness paid off for her !

OMG, that was definitely an ugly thing to say. At least you weren't as young as Lauro was here. Poor kid.

All I hope for now is no more big time jumps. If they want to jump for the last ten minutes to six months after Pedro's demise or something I'm OK with that. Let there be a new admiral at the base who will get interested in Carlota (who sadly looked like she aged ten years last night) and let Esmeralda get her life together (with or without Refugio). It would be a big stretch of credibility for Nadia to miraculously get her sight back, but she didn't deserve to lose it in the first place.

I agree ,i hate time jumps without reason, the sudden 7 year jump was far enough..Atleast in Por Siempre Mi Amor there was a valid reason for the jump into the future and there was enough plot development before it happened but in Robo they are just overdoing it..And honestly with the time skip i would expect more developed cities ,high tech roads ,huge skyscrapers, electric cars and other stuff like that, why cant the time jumps who are supposed to lead us to future, dont really lead us to the actual future ? I mean imagine how cities would look somewhere in the near future. Well i dont know in what year Aguazul is now anyway,Rant over.

The time jump may not have been planned when they began, but it was necessary to provide the full plot of the second half.

Aguazul should be in 2021 now, in view of the year on Adm. Lauro's tomb. That was definitely an error on the writers' part. Think about how fashions would have changed as well!

Thank you for the recap!! I missed this epidode do I was happy to read all the details, great job!

Yes I agree with you Madelaine about Graciela, if I was Monse I would have stayed pist. Most especially if she knew Pedro was alive for the past year and didn't say anything! She could have warned her family if she really cared. They could have started looking for him sooner and maybe things would have went differently.

Urban---No screen shots? They're
nice but in the category of a little something extra---your great recap is just fine all by itself. And---He was angrier than
a bull in Pamplona--along with He
looked like an escaped mental patient made the recap even more enjoyable.

Urban---You might have a point. If
St. Monse and Dimi find out that Gaudy if faking, it will be her last con at least in that house.

Available parking spaces? Ha ha,
try that in Los Angeles.

Cynderella---I kinda know what you are saying but sweat as pleasurable? Yuck.

Jarifa---Pedro, Graciela y Maria.
Yes, that would be some family wouldn't it?

Pedro is not going to shoot himself. Have we ever seen the bad guy take himself out? I don't think so. Will he shoot EZ instead
and then run out the back door or will both of them evade the Keystone Cops by running out the back door. Must see tv tonight.

Oh! And Maria with a gun---will Rosario go down? Maybe---good guys don't all always win do they?
the gringo

Gringo, have you ever been to a wet t-shirt contest? Which is better to look at? A wet t-shirt or a dry t-shirt on Pamela Anderson?

Cynderella---You got me. I know what you mean but there are better choices out there than Pamela Anderson.

I read on the blog once that there is usually a good guy who dies during ultimas semanas. Is that true?!

Yes, that is often true. It's not a hard and fast rule, but there often is a Sacrificial Lamb. I dearly hope we don't get one here.

Thanks UA. I hope we don't get one here, either.

Great work Urban! I admire all the recappers on this show, for sticking with this long, convoluted journey through time and space.

The episode last night seemed really choppy to me, parts of it didn't make sense. For instance, why were Montse and Carlota at the police station? I know they went to confront EZ, but he was being held in custody at the Naval Base. So why did they go to the police station later on? Didn't make sense to me.

Why is Pedro making all the references to long-dead police chief Loreto? Is that supposed to be a clue to something? Or does Pedro just miss the guy?

Did it seem weird to anyone else that Ale, Refoolio and Dim, who have been absolutely convinced that JL has been in cahoots with Pedro just dropped the idea like a dead fish when JL said, "No, I'm not"? Well, alrighty then. Let's all go hunt Pedro and sit in a van really, really close together.

I will say it again - neither Ale nor Montse is the brightest crayon in the box. I guess looks and money does make up for brains.

I doubt that Pedro will off himself. He never got his hands dirty before by killing anyone else, why would he start with himself?

Xlntperuvian: "Why is Pedro making all the references to long-dead police chief Loreto?"--I wondered the same thing.

I had a horrid thought. What if they do have a sacrificial lamb and its Poor Blind Nadia?!!!

Arriving a little late, too many errands to do today but thanks Urban for the fantastic recap, both here and on MCET. Can't believe you are doing two at a time!

Oxnard and Nanette-"Pedro told Rosario that Ale had made him an incomplete man and then sat her down on the bed. For a second there, I thought he was going to show her what he meant by that."--OMG, me too!

Fatima, are there now 9 or 10 people at the "Gracie is Faking it" table? By the way, Welcome to all! I still think she is faking it to manipulate those around her. I think after last night's conversation with Laurito, she should be moved out of the house. Her presence is detrimental to the kids. Like I said in the Karmageddon discussion, maybe Dimi and Montse can purchase her old tin roofed home so she can have a place to live. Now that she claims to be sick, they can send her nurse to take care of her there. Her only visitors would be the ghosts of Juana, Ben, Lauro Sr, Fabs, Juvie and anyone else who dies before the grand finale, poking her in the head and telling her repeatedly "Te hace falta Jesus!" until she dies.

iIntperuvian, Montse and Tia were not at the police station. They were at the naval base waiting to see Ez. After the discussion in the prison, Ale, JL and gang headed over to the naval base to alert Dimi of what was going on and ran into the ladies there, where they told them the news of Rosi's kidnapping.

Cynderella, I too like the idea of Ale running with his shirt stuck to his body ;-)

Maricruz

Oops, typo. I meant xlntperuvian!

Your description of Alejandro in a wet t-shirt displaying all of his gorgeous muscles left me, well, sorry to say, imaging all kinds of wonderful stuff like in my young adul. years while reading romance novels (commonly referred to as thigh crossers in my day) before proceeding on to self-help books.
Sorry to all male bloggers.

Fatima

At first I did not think it likely, but after the way Gracie spoke to Laurito, I want to join the

Gracie is faking it table!

I can see her delight in thinking that her arch enemy is a "star in the sky" and now she will get all the attention her narcissistic personality deserves.

Maricruz and Victoria Gomez That now makes 11 at the
"Graciela is Faking It" table. :)

I was thinking about this in passing this morning, A narcissist does not want to die. This is another part of my Crackpot Theory as to why I don't believe this con artiste.

Fatima,
Was I added to the "Gracie is faking it" list? I saw that someone named Naima was added, but I could not find a comment from them. Anyhoo, just wondering.

Cynderella,
Oooohhh,, now I see where you were going with the Ale not running enough comment. Yeah, that would have been a great scene, cuz then he would have to take off the sweaty shirt. Hmmmm.

My dear Aunty Ann, you are ABSOLUTELY on the the "Graciela Is Faking It" list!

Fatima
Member, Crackpot Theorists™

Fatima,
I can't move from the Ale table. I signed an oath to always stand by our beautiful Ale no matter what. But I do want to be added to the list of people who think Gracie is a faker. Pretty please, with a cherry on top!

P.s. Who's Naima? A new commenter?

I just can't believe a mother could be so manipulative, but I'm definitively at the TABLE.

Fatima,
Sorry, I wrote that last comment before reading your last one. Thanks! I would also like to add that there is still the possibility that BM is Gracie's daughter. I just can't get that out of my mind. I am probably wrong though.

AuntyAnn

OMG, SR without a shirt! I will never leave the Ale table unless he plays a truly terrible role.

The great thing about being older and living the somewhat fantasy role of Novelas is that it brings back one's youth, innocence, and romanticism.

Cherry on Top accepted!

I think I saw Naima's name two days ago. I could be misspelling her name, but I think I have it right. I will double check.

Aunty Ann, I agree that there is always the possibility that BM is Gaudencia's daughter. We could be WAAAY off base, but I agree that the possibility exists.

Victoria, not to worry. You have a seat at The Table. :))

Fatima

How many kids do you all suppose that Gracie had? Ok, I am going to throw this out there. I don't think Benjamin was such a terrible father. He wasn't a doting father, but he knew where his kids were and he took care of them in his own way. He made one a bazillionaire, he made sure Alex had a job, and he stayed away from him so that he'd be better than him. He took Fabs from Gracie, but he tried to put her in a loving home with someone who wanted her. I think he stayed away because he didn't want "chips off the block".

I must disagree, Cynderella. He was not a father at all. He was just a sperm donor. He stayed away from them because he didn't give a damn.

Fabiola was given away to his sister because she -- conveniently -- wanted a baby. Alejandro was ignored until he was old enough to be useful as a worker. When Benjamin's sister and brother-in-law were killed he dumped her in a boarding school. She never saw Aguazul until she showed up in our story.

I have also stated that there is the possibility that Maria is also his offspring. He could just as easily have raped Gaspar's wife around the same time as Rosario.

Urban, I agree with you. BUT he was a sperm donor who donated to the upkeep of his children. He gave all of his money to Alex and at least he sent the girl to boarding school. He gave her to someone who wanted her. I know fathers who swear that they love their children, but keep their money in their pockets AND the children never see them. I'd rather have one who provided for me in some kind of way. Yes, I know that it's a sick way of looking at it, but at least he provided something for them even if he wasn't involved with them.

Cynderella

He would never have given his money to Alex if Padre Anselmo hadn't guilt-tripped him into doing so. We did hear from Licenciado Cevera that he was not pleased with Fabiola's lifestyle so he might have disinherited her anyway, which only leaves the question of who would have gotten it without Padre Anselmo's influence.

If you saw the flashback scene with him and Gracie in his bedroom you would have seen he was poison. He treated Alejandro like crap until the day he changed his will, by which time it was far too late. Remember also that he made him say he drove the truck the day of the accident that castrated Pedro.

As the daughter of a highly toxic narcissistic mother I can testify that nothing -- not even millions of dollars -- erases the memory of insults and lack of support in one's education, ambitions, and personal desires. I know how Monserrat feels when Gracie insults her feelings for Alejandro and lately undermines her parenting of her son. She needs to get her out of their lives.

Urban, I grew up with both "Gracie" and a Benjamin. Let me tell you, when my "Benjamin" died, I was shocked to find out that he taken out the insurance money and left it to me. At that moment, I forgave him. Not because he gave me money, but because he thought of me at least once in my life and I finally had the proof...in writing! The insurance company told me. This is coming from a man who never sent me a dime when I was growing up. This guy knew where exactly where I was! I have a Gracie too. She moved in with me when I was young and weak and refused to get a job or pay for anything. She "retired" at 45 years old and her retirement plan was me. She stayed for 17 years and made me believe that I was nothing, while she ate my food and "sh*t" in my toilet. When I finally put her out, she stayed angry with me because I wanted my own life. She can't stand me even though I took care of her for 17 years. So, I feel you, but I was happy when I was told that my father actually thought about me. That's why I don't detest Benjamin. I agree that he was a sumamabitch, but he had one good thing about him. Even if he was guilted into it.

Cynderella
