Qué Pobres, Lunes 7/21/14 (#139): I Wasn't Expecting the Spanish Inquisition

Frida's pregnancy test results are not explicitly revealed, but the look on her face tells us that she is not pleased. After giving Frida a moment to herself on the bench, the nurse approaches with some pamphlets and says that it doesn't look as though Frida's happy. Frida says she's not sure. (First she ate chicken soup, and now she's killed a rabbit! What's next for this lapsed vegetarian?)

AS and MA sit at opposite ends of a very long dinner table. Leo is sitting somewhere in the middle (symbolism much?). Despite the fact that they never used to eat meals together in the before-time, AS is annoyed that Frida is very late. In fact, Frida finally comes home, says it was a long day planning a protest against some kind of genetic engineering or something, and is going straight to bed. Leo decides to take his dinner to his room, too. That leaves MA and AS alone to chat with one another, or so you'd think.

Emi has apparently eaten all he's going to eat tonight, so Lupe sends him to bed. (He has to be reminded to take his plate.) Actually this is more about getting him out of the room so that Lupe and Chuy can confront Tizoc about the positive pregnancy test that wasn't Lupe's or Perla's. Tizoc is very defensive: "What is this, the Inquisition?"

Vilma calls Ahole and demands to see him tomorrow. He doesn't want to go, but she insists. He makes a big deal of having to rearrange his schedule to accommodate her, and jokes that her own schedule is so open lately.

AS and MA do not chat. MA asks her to put down the phone for a while so they can talk, but her phone keeps ringing and she cannot resist gabbing with the friends who dropped her like a bad habit not so long ago.

Emi sneaks a phone call to Ahole. He's upset that Lupe is sending him to his regular school tomorrow instead of the swanky new one Ahole got him into. Ahole tells him not to worry. He can fix this problem very quickly, but he'll need Emi's support.

Nepo is drinking, slowly and deliberately, in the dark while staring at photos of Gwendy and Diego. It looks as though he's trying to drink himself to death.

There's a full moon.

In bed, Tizoc tosses and turns. He's having a nightmare. In nice symmetry to Frida's long-ago nightmare about the naco wedding, Tizoc, I mean Tay, is surrounded by fans. But it's a wedding. Pregnant Frida, looking somewhat undead, is led down the aisle towards him by two mini-Tizocs, who also look undead. The boys and fans converge on him with outstretched arms, pawing and clutching. Tizoc bolts awake, hitting his head on the upper bunk.

Daytime. Emi and Lupe are outside the school. Em doesn't want to go in, but that's just too bad. She has a semiprivate chat with Paco's mom to corroborate what really happened at the party. Did it all happen the way Emi said? (Em snubbing his school friends to play with the tablet kids.) I think she tells Brenda (Paco's mom) that she's asking because Emi has been lying so much lately! Brenda confirms the story. (I may have this backwards - maybe she told it to Brenda. Because Lupe was actually at the party, and Brenda wasn't!)

Next, Ahole and a flunkie approach Lupe with a formal petition to take immediate custody of Emiliano. It can take effect within hours, but all she has to do is marry Ahole. He's going to give her three days to think about it, and he assures her she has no hope of winning.

MA asks Frida why she won't come down for breakfast. He's worried and suggests that she see a doctor. She'll think about it.

AS wakes from a nightmare (we don't see it). After months of waking to the nightmare of La Nopalera, now she's seeing that place in her sleep! But she takes off her sleeping-mask and she's in her old bedroom. "I'm RICH!" she calls out joyfully to the empty room.

Frida remembers that final, awful conversation she had with Tizoc. Meanwhile, Tizoc tries to reach her on her phone which I guess AS threw away along with Leo's.

MA goes to Emi's school and asks Lupe if he can see Emi for just a few minutes. Lupe promises nothing, but Ahole sees them talking. And finally Lupe gets to talk to the teacher to make sure Emi won't be bothered by the other kids.

AS is planning a get-together with her friends. The menu will include enchiladas! She tries to reassure the staff that although it's very exotic, she knows it will be a hit. LOL. She tries to get Leo to hang around to meet with her friends, but he's happy to leave!

Ahole meets with Mini in a hurry to make sure she continues the campaign to keep MA and Lupe apart. Well, she says she'll sign the divorce papers only when he gives her the mansion and three other properties.

Beba and Chabela come to the house to see AS. (Beba gives her an air-kiss about ten inches away from her face!) Their conversation is similar to the one Frida had with her "friends" at the prepa when MA was acquitted - they're very forgiving! AS's "friends" go on and on about the disastrous wedding with the fake Countess. AS tries to cement the regained friendship by writing Chabela a check to cover everything the that was stolen.

Tizoc goes to the prepa to look for Frida. Her fresa ex-friends make fun of him, but other fresas recognize him as Tay! (I am confused; he seems to pull something out of his pocket and stick it in his nose??) He sings for them. Tato tries to diss him, but more fans show up and Tato is pushed aside...

Lupe tries to reach Tomas on the phone about Ahole's ultimatum. No answer.

MA meets with Trofeo and Nepo. They don't understand why he's still interested in the juice business now that he's rich again. He says he still wants to grow the business. Trofeo and Nepo throw around crazy ideas about genetically engineering farm animals to taste like mole, or somesuch.

Chuy and the rest of the family urge Tizoc to try harder to look for Frida. At least find out if she's really pregnant. They won't talk about it until they know for sure. Tizoc says he looked, but got distracted by fans. They tell him "your girlfriend and baby are more important than your fans." Tizoc replies that Frida's not his girlfriend! (More symmetry! I'm lost in this hall of mirrors!)

Ahole visits Vilma in prison. She doesn't have anything urgent to tell him at all! She just wanted to know how his plans are going to fulfill the clause. She wants him to come back with all the divorce papers tomorrow so she can review them. Eh, he doesn't want to. Desperately, Vilma says he MUST come back tomorrow. To make sure he doesn't forget her. It wouldn't look right. "Some gossipy employee might open her mouth," she says ominously.

Leo's reunion with old friends isn't quite as ugly (or expensive) as AS's, but it's equally unsatisfying. Yes, they've forgiven him for... uh... you know, inconveniencing them with his pobriety, I guess. Now that he's single, they want to introduce him to some hot chicks. Leo starts to tell them that he's... but he chickens out and doesn't tell them. They all want to make a trip to LA, Las Vegas, or some other place in the EEUU. (Probably at his expense!) He suggests they go to the local anthropology museum instead. The all think he's kidding. He tells them he taught at the community cultural center. They're appalled. He's appalled too, and glad to finally leave.

AS's friends ask for martinis. They get them, but AS abstains. She says she's on a strict diet which precludes alcohol. Frida shows up in her pajamas (we're on the terrace or balcony). She's obviously been crying. Beba and Chabela are kind of nasty and condescending with her. Frida snipes back at them. They leave, and AS complains to Frida. "I thought you were going to ask me if something was wrong," Frida says in disappointment.

Leo meets with his old students to say goodbye. He thanks them for teaching him more than he could ever teach them. The students want to make a statue in his honor! They share a group hug.

Tizoc is singing one of his real songs in the penthouse. Perla finds them and as usual when these two get together, I can't follow a word of it. Help?

Leo's still at the cultural center when Diego finds him. Diego's sorry he left without saying goodbye, but all the emotions were too overwhelming. And this relationship is too complicated. He can't handle it.

Lupe has consented to meet with MA. Lupe doesn't tell him about the custody threat or the eviction, but she does tell him all of the things Mini said that got under her skin, like about the fireworks, and "you are unique," and a slew of other things that she thought were private between them. MA tells her about the letter that she never got. Ahole must have intercepted it, and Mini must have studied it for choice phrases. He begs Lupe to believe him. He loves her.

He tells her to take all the time in the world. He'll wait! (Good! Can he wait for her to get married and divorced?) He loves her. He moves in for a kiss. She doesn't move away. Finally she turns her face towards his.

Closer... closer... in 5, 4, 3, 2, ARGH!
Do they make contact? Find out tonight!

Next Time: Mini makes like a bad penny and turns up.

Tizoc is currently on the list with AS! What an awful waste of space he was this episode. He only cares about himself now and I can't wait for his fall from grace.

MA AND LUPE TALKED ABOUT THE LETTER!!! Unfortunately it doesn't look good in the previews, sigh. Lupe is definitely marrying Alejo with all the pressure he's putting on her. Meanwhile we all wish she'd let him have the brat.

I loved the Leo scenes with him realizing that he's not the same as his rich friends anymore. Unfortunately he has a long way to go in terms of being honest.

I appreciated the humiliation of AS, but I need far more than that for her. She continued to be truly awful.

Loved how Leo picked up his plate and took it to the kitchen without even thinking about it! Before they ended up at the Nopalera, he would've probably just yelled for the maid or left the table without even bothering to deal with it.

Leo took his plate to the kitchen (I'm surprised he even knows where it is), but Emi had to be reminded.

Lots of other symmetry in this episode too. Tizoc's nightmare. I don't remember what else but I'm sure I'll remember as I'm typing frantically. :)

I wanted to whack Tizoc upside the head last night. Especially when instead of acknowledging what a baby would mean for him and Frida, he was more concerned with making sure everyone knew Frida is NOT his novia.

Leo and AS are experiencing what Frida has had to this whole time-- the ridicule of their rich "friends" of their brush with infamy and poverty. I also want more misery and humiliation for AS.

Lupe needs to swallow her pride and ask MA for help... maybe he can't do anything since she has allowed A-hole to pull enough strings so that money won't do much now... but she needs to be totally open with not only MA but with Chuy and all her family... maybe then Tizoc and Perla will start to wake up and smell the rat... and once she tells Chuy, then Mati might enter the game board and make things much more interesting...
I am still holding the prediction that one of the Menchacas will again go into the Editorial office and get the doctor's phone or Mati and Tomas will just look him up on the phonebook or internet and surprise everyone else... now THAT would be a proof that Mati is back, and back 1000%.
Lupe needs to confront Emiliano again and have him admit he gave the letter to his dad... that will sink the truth into her about MA, Mini and A-hole.
Looks like Nepo is having second thoughts with the photos of Gwendy and DA. He needs to wake up and enjoy what he has instead of nagging for what he doesn't.

Now, a question... even if Lupe marries A-hole, it seems A-hole would still need the 'ok' from the Corporativo Board in order to get the whole enchilada of the money and the power. If that is the case, he might believe he has got to the finish line when he marries Lupe and that is when Mati will show face... can't wait to see his face then. Mati will have quite a story to tell the Board members.

I hope MA did the 'opt out' of the credit cards he gave AS and Leo. that way AS would not be able to go over the credit limit... she would not go to jail, she would just not be able to purchase the window treatments she was talking about... and this time I hope MA does leave her to her own fate...

Recap done. I swear that episode felt like three hours.

Vivi, if it's any consolation, Tizoc whacked himself in the head when he woke up and hit the bunk over his own bed.

Marta, I've been thinking the same thing about the board of zombies not giving Ahole an automatic pass even if he shows up with a mother and son. Even if he could win in court eventually, the board can still delay him with lawsuits for a long time while MA catches up!

Julie, the line about the chicken soup and the rabbit killing was wonderful!

I'm half paying attention now that we are in últimas semanas. Tizoc is dead to me right now. Poor Frida!

I am no lawyer, but i don't think A-hole can take over the firm without the Board's approval. The firm was not totally the property of Don Aureliano, and A-hole has been trying to 'kiss-a--' to the board about who is guilty of the fraud to try to keep them on his side for something... he would not do anything for nothing...
Having said that, i don't thin the Board would go against Aureliano's wishes UNLESS there is a new player with a different version of the story, and who was respected/valued by Aureliano... and that is where I think Mati comes in to save the day.

Julie, great recap!!
a couple more details...
what MA told NEpo and Trofeo about his continued interest in the juice business is he wanted to create employment opportunities for people at La Nopalera... that is when Trofeo came up with his weird suggestions. Even Nepo was impressed at MA's wanting to help La Nopalera people progress.

The convo between Perla and Tizoc, she just twisted the knife about him possibly having Frida out there pregnant... when she came in she was nagging at him that if he was thinking of making this room (the penthouse) his love nest with Frida and the baby, to forget it, she had already claimed it as her new room... (these two don't grow up)

speaking of rooms... I noticed the paintings in Frida's room... the little girl sitting at the edge of a railing looking down, and the other one of the girl dressed as genie/clown... both were very cute. and very telling of what Frida is going through. she is lost, needs to find herself.

At least MA got to tell Lupe that all Mini said at the trial was in the letter he had written to her. That at the time he wrote the letter he did not know whether he would come out free or stay in jail so he wrote the letter as a summary of their love story, so it had the details of the fireworks at first kiss and what he had told her that she was 'unica'. and all their special moments... and that he had given the letter to Tomas to give to her... and that it seems somehow A-hole got the letter. (he doesn't know Emi received the letter from Tomas to give to Lupe)
hopefully now Lupe will confront Emi and will learn he gave the letter to A-hole.

Thanks for those details, Marta. There was really an overwhelming amount of stuff last night, plus the captions were kind of screwy which just made it harder to keep up when my ears couldn't follow along!

Leo was visibly uncomfortable with his old friends. That was interesting.

And AS actually seemed aware that her friends were worthless boors even as she desperately tried to reclaim her position in their social circle.

I think Beba and Chabela also spent some time bad-mouthing Isela, except that I didn't hear them say her name. Maybe they were passive-aggressively insulting AS instead.

I think the Lupe/Brenda convo was that Emi undermined the facts in the version he gave Lupe... (remember Lupe was not there when Emi was insulting his old friends, she came out just as the boys were leaving and she asked Emi what happened...)
I think Lupe was getting the real facts from Brenda and her son... and that is why she commented she had wanted to talk to them because Emi had got a habit of lying to her and she wanted to hear the truth.

They insulted AS about the wedding and told her she'll have to work to get back in their good graces. And yes, Isela was brought up and AS said she had no class and they agreed but said she was accepted by some in their circle and then brought it back to insulting AS.

Emiliano told Lupe that the kids at school would keep bullying him, maybe even hit him. He did not tell her what he said to them, and that this is why he felt he couldn't go back (he had boasted that he was going to a better school that didn't have riffraff basically). When Lupe spoke to his friend and the mom, she found out the truth.

With Perla and Tizoc the main thing is that she let slip that MA "cheated" on Lupita. Lupe never have details on why they broke up, but Perla was eavesdropping when Lupita was arguing with MA about it.

Oh and as for Leo, the thing is that his friends wanted to go to the US to see the poor, low class Mexicans and I believe during the holiday celebrating Mexican independence. Leo said something about how wrong it seems to celebrate by going to the US, and why not celebrate their own culture? Then he left confused as to what was wrong with them, not realizing that he's the one who has changed.

Julie, thanks for the great recap. Yes, Minerva is like the provebial "bad penny."

I really felt for Frida. Early in the episode , AS calls her the "oveja negra" --black sheep--for no reason. She is totally on her own with AS completely self absorbed. MA might be able to help her once she comes to terms with her pregnancy.

AS was very funny with wanting the cook to make enchiladas and horchata. Guess she did become a little "amenchacada" herself. I was happy to see her forgo the "elixir."

AS's friends were particularly nasty recounting the wedding, etc. and reminding her she was going to have to prove herself worthy to make her way back into their social circle.

For just a second, it seemed Lupe might have been thinking about Emiliano having posession of the letter as MA was telling her he had Saúl bring it over. It seemed lije she paused but then dismissed what had come to mind.

Will Tizoc stop being a jerk? Will Nepo drown in his tears? Will Leonardo come out of the closet and take off the door so he cannot slip back in? Will Vilma actually go after Alejo?

Looks like more mayhem!

Jarifa

Oh I forgot to say I'm really sick of Vilma. For a smart woman she sure is an idiot. Her subtle threats aren't going to get her anywhere with Ahole.

With poor Frida, we all know she's going to keep the baby with abortion being a huge no-no in Mexican novelas, so she's basically going to have to give up school for a while. They're already awful and merciless, could you imagine if they see her pregnant?
I know people try to preach about facing things, but I honestly think a long trip to another country while she's pregnant would do her a world of good.

Julie- Great job on the recap!

Frida was particularly sad in her pjs on the patio. She obviously wanted AS to ask her what was wrong. It was only after she specifically said that and walked off that AS offhandedly asked the air if something could be wrong with Frida. I want her frienemies to really up her suffering.

I was proud of Leo for so quickly realizing that his old friends are the ones with a warped vision of the world. How far will he challenge them, and how long before he publicly comes out of the closet. What's funny to me, is that his mirrey guy friends aren't particularly manly/macho. Any of them could be easily stereotyped as gay based on their mannerisms.

I wonder if Leo came out to his friends whether they would all come out right behind him! Maybe he would give them the courage to do so and they would all be happier because of it - finally be themselves out in the open!

I think both AS and Leo are slowly almost glacially slowly in her case coming to realize how vapid and selfish their friends are. AS will probably give it the old college try to hang on to what she thinks is important but some of her time with the Menchacas is perhaps opening her eyes. I noticed it when she made that off hand comment after Frieda left the room. Prior to this she wouldn't even have noticed anything was wrong. Perhaps there is hope even a little that she'll will be a supportive parent for once to someone other than Da Vinci.

Leo going back to his students and wanting a group hug. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd see that.

Emihole almost got another mack from me last night. When Lupe told him to take his plate off the table he grabbed it and flounced off. She really needs to take a firmer hand with him and stop with the eye rolling and trying to talk to him. He needs a firmer hand than she is using otherwise he will end up just like his father. I do think the only way he is going to learn what a rat bastard Ahole is, is to either overhear him saying something cruel or see him mistreating Lupe. At this point her little boy is nothing but a lying, manipulative tattletale brat.

Tizoc is a jerk so I laughed when he hit his head. As much as I hate plot devices I do think the best thing would be for Frieda to lose the baby. It might wake him up and in any case neither one of them is responsible enough to raise an infant.

I don't think Leo's friends would reject him for being gay - but they'd trip all over themselves trying to fix him up with the first gay guy they can find who's as shallow as they are. (Unless, as suggested by anon 11:47, some of them are gay. Then they might want to date him themselves.)

I'm more curious as to how long he can stand being around them. If I were Leo, I would run away fast.

AS, I'm guessing, will probably tolerate her own idiot friends forever because she's a very slow learner.

Although it doesn't seem likely, it's possible that Frida isn't pregnant, and she's disappointed that she doesn't have anything to tie her to Tizoc.

A negative at-home test may (I said MAY, not WILL) appear to turn positive after it's been sitting around for a while. (It's true. I googled it. This could come in handy as a plot device in another TN someday.) Frida threw that first test away before she even saw the result.

It's kind of a long shot, though, and I don't know what kind of pamphlet the nurse would have been offering her at the clinic for a non-pregnancy. Maybe an overview of tips to improve the odds?

Julie:
Or, following your train of thought, maybe the pamphlet is about using protection to avoid the "scare" of a pregnancy in the future.

Yeah, the pamphlet could be anything. Medical offices have pamphlets for every occasion!

It still wouldn't explain Frida's dizzy spells, but maybe she and Lupe (and maybe even Perla) are all suffering from the same virus, like an inner ear infection, or the Mark Tacher bug.

They still haven't told us for sure that Frida is pregnant. Since this is a comedy, and in its ultimas semanas, I think it quite possible she is not pregnant but got quite the shock and is emotional about it.

Didn't Wilma explicitly blackmail Alejo, saying if she falls he's falling too?

Jane, she sure did.

Jarifa

Jane, she did a while back.
Also when she told A-hole last night 'maybe an employee of yours will slip his/her tongue' i wonder if she was talking about herself (which she did directly threaten him over the phone when she asked him to come visit her) telling all on him, or another employee of the editorial... my guess is she meant herself. HE better go carefully with her and not push her... the minute she realizes he is using her and plans to diss her later or that he did kill Adolfo himself he is toast...

Vilma did say that, but then she immediately backpedaled and said "not really, I would never", and asked him to please run away with her.

However, she did NOT backpedal from that vague statement she made last night about "some gossipy employee," and I'm sure she was referring to herself, because who else knows anything? Maybe Beto, but it sounded like Vilma was talking about a woman.

Oh!! Mini? She's an employee too, and she won't hesitate to throw him under the bus if she finds out he's planning to shut her out. He'd better hope that Vilma doesn't know Mini's phone number.

Julie, thanks so much for the recap.

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm glad Leo seems to realize now how superficial and silly and greedy his old mirrey friends are, and that he went back to La Nopalera to visit. I don't think his old friends would be homophobic, either, but I think they'd want him to be the catty shallow pretty-boy stereotype of a gay man and not himself. And how far has he come, that I don't think that description is who he is anymore?

I'm not sure AS will ever learn anything. Of course it would never occur to her that maybe she could find better friends that those harpy frenemies. Nope, she just wants to be the top vulture. As long as she can look down on the other vultures, it's all good.

Maybe Frida's pamphlet is about avoiding toxic relationships with narcissistic jerks.

somehow i want to see A-hole suffer and pee in his pants for several days. I don't want Mati to show up at the finale episode. I want to watch A-hole squirm when everything (Mati, Vilma, Mini, Lupe, Bambi, the zombie Board, Adolfo's ghost and even Emi himself) turn against him and torture him for a while...

I don't know if there's a pamphlet big enough to cover relationships with narcissistic jerks, especially in TN-Land. That would be a seven-volume set with free bonus page magnifier.

I want Ahole to get permanent butterfingers, such that he can no longer tie fancy necktie knots.

I don't know if Ahole has enough of a conscience to be haunted by the ghosts of his victims, but I'd like Adolfo to try and haunt him just the same.

I don't know about conscience (acknowledging wrongdoing side)... but I remember him getting calls from Bambi and being immediately unstable in his body functions from the very moment he heard who was on phone... so he does have some fear-of-physical-suffering-related vulnerabilities.

OK, yeah, not so much a conscience as a fear of retribution.

The heck with Adolfo's ghost anyway. He's probably too busy chasing female ghosts. Let's see if we can get the ghost of Antonia from PESE instead. She does excellent work. She'd make a fine avenger.

Julie,

"First she ate chicken soup, and now she's killed a rabbit! What's next for this lapsed vegetarian?"

Wow, what a great start for a wonderful recap. I enjoyed this thoroughly.

Now I'm a little worried for Vilma. As inept as Alejo is he is nonetheless potentially very dangerous when he is feeling either threatened or vengeful. Even though she is so devoted to him, I see her as likely turning out as a key element in his ultimate downfall when the scales finally fall from her eyes. Besides, I simply can't dislike her... for some reason she reminds me of that lovable cartoon sidekick Muttley.

Another character I can't bring myself to dislike is Ana Sofia. I felt so badly for her last night as she tried so desperately and pitifully to reconnect with her old superficial friends. I'm still convinced that deep down both she and Vilma are basically good though tragically deluded with horribly misplaced values.

Carlos

Thanks, Julie for tying down the details of this episode. My captions were lagging behind, which always adds confusion.

I think AS' so-called friends also laughed at her curtain fabric dress for the wedding. I would drop them for that alone. Glad she was able to resist the martini.

Tizoc and Frida need Mati to sit them down and ask what's going on. Don't think that will happen, however.

Leo is showing some progress, if he can just stay true to what he learned from the Nopalera.

Yes, please let Lupita force Emi to tell her what really happened with the letter. She needs to know MA and his love for her are real, not fake.

Carlos, you and your bad girls...

Well, then again I definitely had a thing for that tialoving abuelokiller on Amar Sin Limites...and I've been soft on Leo since before he even showed a hint of reforming...and I can't even bring myself to abhor Tizoc even though he's being a troll...

Yes, they had a hearty laugh about the curtain-dresses. This from the women who stole the dresses that AS was donating to charity.

I've been thinking more about the haunting business and maybe Ahole doesn't need a ghost at all. Seeing Mati alive and well with her good relatives (AGAIN!) might scare him enough to send him into the next world.

I'm a little disappointed Carmelita has never done more with her sewing skills. She did such excellent work. She just needs a client who is nicer than AS. Maybe Frida can hire her for a new wardrobe? I'm not sure they make those tiny skirts and sheer blouses in maternity.

oh yeah! Chabelita and Geno kept poking AS about the curtain dress at Leo's wedding, and the ordinary food and beverages.

and yes, Carm could have a future in sewing, beginning with maternity clothes for Frida and Lupe.

So am I crazy, or did I not see Tizoc pull something out of his pocket and stick it/them in his nostrils when the fans approached him at the prepa? What was that?? Some kind of nasal insert? Tiny amplifiers? Snuff??

I'll have to watch for that tonight when I see last night's epi. Is there such a thing as a Wonderbra but for noses? Or did he stick some Vick's Vaporub in his nose so he wouldn't have to smell the lowly students (now that he is a big famous pop star and all)?

Oh my goodness, that really is a thing.

Oh goodness. Where in heck does one shove them that they aren't visible, and how does this not do any damage?

I learn so many things on this blog.

What would be the correct Spanish/Spanglish compound word for that device? A subanariz? A levantaschnozz? Alzabocico?

I like levant-a-schnozz. Also, SnoutMaster 3000.

I'll come up with a dozen great names, three months from now when all of this is long forgotten.

Thanks for that great recap.

I'm glad MA and Lupe are communicating with each other. Too bad Mini and Ahole are going to strike again.

I wanted to whack Tizoc on the head too. Lupe might end up whacking him if he's not careful. She's a single mom who has plenty of experience with a-hole baby daddies, so he should know better than to cry to her. On the bright side, I'm glad his family is making sure he does the right thing.

About the Spanish Inquisition remark… The funny part about Rizoc’s comment is that he got it wrong. Instead of saying “inquisition” he said “imposition” which is a sad reflection of the educational system. I’ve tried listening carefully when Perla and Tizoc speak because in some cases they really don’t know what they are saying and get the word wrong. There was another substitution recently when Tizoc tried to say “incognito” and also got it wrong. Even one of the “chicas fresa” that was nearby said something like “what did he say”.

MartaIvette… interesting that you noticed the paintings. I did too! Especially (and specifically) the one with the girl that is sitting. The painting only reveals her back and she seems to be thinking about something. The color scheme is somber. I also thought that it reflected Frida as she has been neglected by her mom and her brothers (one running off to London and the other too absorbed in his jet setting).

This episode was enlightening for both AS and Leo as they start to see their friends through different eyes. When AS was at the club bad mouthing Isela, Chabelita, with check in hand, mentioned to AS that she (AS) would have to “work” hard to get back into the good graces of the elite circle. This was definitely a subtle way of saying “you’ll have to buy your way back in”.

Anonymous at 10:35 AM: “Oh and as for Leo, the thing is that his friends wanted to go to the US to see the poor, low class Mexicans and I believe during the holiday celebrating Mexican independence.”

That isn’t exactly quite right What they were saying was that they wanted to go see Mexican art and culture at the NY museum to celebrate independence day (Sept 16). That’s why Leo suggested that they to a Museum in Mexico City seeing how it seemed wrong to celebrate Mexican culture during its independence day in a foreign country, but the fresa chick snapped that the museums in Mexico were filled with the “naquiza”.

I am anxious for the Grandma Mati Rises episode. I am enjoying the romance between Lupita and Miguel Angel.

Salvador, I'm pretty sure that they also talked about the number of Mexicans in the US who are poor, too, though. I just don't have access to the episode to go back and check it and there was a lot of noise here during this part. You're probably right, though, since I just couldn't hear that exchange completely.

OT: if anyone is having trouble getting into the MCET recap page,
To get to this recap blog i had to click on the 'n comments' below the title of the recap in the general Caray Caray page.
