De Que Te Quiero Te Quiero #147 Friday 8/1/14

De que en paz descanse , en paz descanse
(Alt: De que el cable me vuelve loca, me vuelve loca)
I'm going to put up what I remember, but I've forgotten most of it in the blind rage at my DVR yet again failing me.

Yes, it's true. Tad's cancer is back and he's decided not to continue any treatment. He wants his final days to be spent being happy with Irene and Natalia. The man is so noble he even apologizes for not being able to follow through on the trip to Paris. Irene and Natalia cry a lot. I am frustrated that the one noble and consistent character is leaving us. Diego also comes to the hospital. He and Nat are somewhat civil to each other. She hugs him and he is very supportive. Irene comments on the emotion in Nat's hug.

Tad asks Diego to pass a message on to Alonso. Tad wants to see him. Alonso obliges. Tad wants him to take care of Irene. (eeek. How could I forget the end so quickly? Definitely fill this in for me.)

Vicente continues to look pitiful and meek. He's also very confused and not all there. His lucidity comes and goes. He wants Hilda to bring him enchiladas (which just tickled me for some reason. I'm going to hell.)

Diego comes to visit Vicente. After hearing about Vicente's condition, he remembers how he was kept in a coma and drugged. He starts making connections. Rosa tells Diego about Rodrigo embezzling funds.

Rodrigo talks with the hired Doc about detoxing Vicente so no one will realize his confused state is due to the drugs. The detox could take a month. If they do it too fast it could be dangerous. I really didn't follow this conversation very well, so I appreciate any help.

Brigitte and Paul reconcile. Sort of. He wants to know who the baby daddy is and Brigitte balks. Paul makes it clear that he won't be bankrolling Brigitte. True affection or nada.

Paul and Carmen share memories of good times. Eleazar comes in and acts a little jealous and macho. Not horribly so, but it's clear he's bothered by Paul. After Paul leaves Carmen tells Eleazar he's worrying her and his mother with is mood swings and jealousy. He needs to take a chill pill.

Brigitte tries to get her job back at Caprico. Ha ha. They won't let her come back. I guess there are no buttons left to count.

Ugh. Sorry guys. I'm sure there's a lot missing.

OH!
Avances
Nat finds the wig and slaps the snot out of Brigitte!!

Sorry guys. Y'all must think I'm the biggest flake that ever flaked.

Sara, don't be silly, amiga. In my view, you hit the high points as there were not too many high points!

I was yelling at the TV for other reasons and you know what they are: Tad leaving us.

This just upsets me to no end. This is going to be one very miserable ending for me. I don't care what happens now. Really.

Fatima

Not at all. And really, what was missing? Tad's imminent, and now assured, demise was the big thing. I suppose Diego doing the mental math and actually coming up with the correct sum was also important.

"I am frustrated that the one noble and consistent character is leaving us." Well said! And I'm right there with you. I wasn't happy with him basically bequeathing Irene to Alonso once he's gone. I know Irene's going to need support, but come on...she can get support from Natalia, Carmen, Diego, the unnamed therapist she's supposed to have been seeing all this time, a widows' support group. It doesn't have to be Alonso. This is salt in the wound!

"He wants Hilda to bring him enchiladas (which just tickled me for some reason. I'm going to hell.)" It seemed like an odd request. Not for me, I mean..hello, enchiladas, yum!...but I didn't realize Vicente had a thing for enchiladas. Maybe the drugs are giving him weird cravings.

Speaking of the drugs, I felt like I was missing some of that conversation as well, though I swear I was paying attention! What I feel like I missed was how long Vicente needs to stay on the medication. What I'm pretty sure I understood was that the drugs will cause permanent damage that will keep Vicente acting loopy, but that they'll need about a month to detox him so that when they do the blood tests that are going to be part of his evaluation, they won't detect it.

Brigitte and Paul...ay, yi, yi! First he plays all virtuous and whines that she was trying to play him and decides he will only give her emotional support, but no more. He even told her to quit playing games about getting him back together with Carmen. Then he shows up for dinner and tries to woo Carmen. So...he objects to his daughter using him for money, but he's going to use his daughter to get into Carmen's pants? Is that what's going on here? That's some quality father-daughter bonding.

Oh Sara, you are not a flake. Not now. Not ever.

You wrote from your heart, and a kind and concerned place it is. You were not only plagued with technical difficulties but had to deal with "Tad's cancer is back and he's decided not to continue any treatment" as well.

You did a wonderful job. Truly. You captured what I believe is uppermost on our minds - Tadeo's now apparantly official fatal illness and his continuing nobility.

Although I can't anything to what you wrote, I will simply say that "Brigitte tries to get her job back at Caprico. Ha ha. They won't let her come back. I guess there are no buttons left to count" briefly parted the dark storm clouds this episode brought.

Your "Vicente continues to look pitiful and meek" was spot on. I was startled at how fragile he appeared. Even evil can be weakened by illness apparantly.

I'm not even sure I want to know anything more about Tad wanting Alonso to take care of Irene. I have to ask - does anyone want Irene with Al?? I'm just curious as the anti-Al sentiment seems to be overwhelming here. I hope Irene decides to be a single, strong woman. I mean that would only echo the lives of many women in the real world. Perhaps too much to ask for here.

Love this show. Hate what happened tonight, that as you noted "I am frustrated that the one noble and consistent character is leaving us".

At least we all can commiserate with each other.

Sara, thank you.

Diana

Diana, you said: "I have to ask - does anyone want Irene with Al??'

NO.

Fatima

Hello Fatima and Kat. I see we all posted at the same time.

Seems we are in solidarity in our sadness at losing Tad.

Kat, I thought "So...he objects to his daughter using him for money, but he's going to use his daughter to get into Carmen's pants? Is that what's going on here? That's some quality father-daughter bonding" was insightful and a great comment.

And you're right Fatima, Tad's situation has unfortunately taken much of the joy out of this.

Diana

Fatima, I must be psychic!! I absolutely KNEW that would be your response! ;)

Diana

"I have to ask - does anyone want Irene with Al??"

No. Not really. I was a big fan of Irene with OriginalRecipe!Al, but not the current Al...the one who has committed multiple breaches of professional ethics, lied to Irene, impregnated Karina, and tried to convince Irene to divorce the incredibly kind man who's about to die and hand her over anyway. And, really, Tad can ask him to be around and love her and take care of her, etc., and that doesn't mean they have to be together-together. But, this being a TN, I'm afraid that's where we're headed.

Yep, we're all crying over Tad together. And the writers' cups are overflowing.

Sara, this was fine. You covered the important points, as Fatima noted, and thankfully didn't have to see much of Aloser.

It's amazing to me that the writers think that Tad "gifting" Irene to HWW would make the viewers support their pairing.

Yes Kat the Paul-Brat plot seems crazy. So he'll be lurking around for until the end? And since her work ploy didn't go as planned, I'm wondering when their relationship will blow up again.

Hi, Sara,

Wow, you did this from memory? Great job.!

I am sorry to see Tad go. He was always honest, caring and considerate, as his last scene with Alonso demonstrates: He is concerned about the stability and care of Irene in his absence; surely a sign of love, although most of you will disagree with this angle of thought.

Does the reference to enchiladas pertain to an earlier phase in Vicentes's life when he wasn't so rich?

As you know by now, next to Vicente and Rod, my least favorite character is Andres. Last night, nobody even thought to call him to inform him about Tad's death spiral.
For me, this defines his placement of importance as things unfold.

Ooh! the avances!

David

Nah, David, I would back you on seeing Tad's gesture as a loving one. Just misguided, since he doesn't have all the latest gossip!

Diana, yes, you are psychic (or I am VERY predictable!!).

5FT said it all.

David, I fully understand your line of thinking. :))

Fatima

"He wants Hilda to bring him enchiladas (which just tickled me for some reason. I'm going to hell.)"

Well sista, I'll meet you there

Triple dammit. Alonso gets the bestest gift from sanny clause on his deathbed. Bridge between the gulf of a selfish ego driven boy and a selfless love inspired man.

Tad - instinctively, you throw yourself on the grenade

Paul - do you really want her or just hate to lose

El - perhaps you have lost your marbles

Brigitte - support my butt, what does that mean

Diego - what do you have to do with any of this Tad stuff, go home

Vicente - hello, anybody home?

Hot Rod - read the fine print next time

Rosa - stop just wringing your hands, do something

Nat - well, you do cry better than anyone I've seen so you're in your element

Irene - hmmm, guilt free sex

Good morning all...been out of the loop this week...unexpected death of friends..watching telenovelas with contrived deaths and medication abuse of the elderly...simply unwatchable at the moment. But want to thank you Sara for the recap. And I'm sure you covered all the high/low points, if I could stand to watch which I can't at the moment.

Still, the "enchilada" comment cracked me up. And I needed a good laugh. If you're a Flake, Please Stay One!!!! Your humor is a delight.

Sara- Way to keep such a sad episode light. I'll watch it later this morning.

Judy- Good to see you back. I'm so sorry to hear about your recent loses. Over the years on this site, I've seen/read how deeply you cherish your friends, and how dedicated you are to them, up to their last minutes of life. I'm sending a virtual hug your way, amiga.

Thanks Sara, no apology needed. I agree with the others that you hit the main points.

Looks like Tad's (impending) death has really put a damper on any chance of a weekend discussion of much of any other happenings.

5ft, I always appreciate your input and points of view. You can present a different perspective without sounding argumentive. I wish I had that ability. I usually hesitate to go against "the crowd" for fear of sounding contrary or argumentive.
My Spanish is not that good, so I like to read comments about the story.
David, thanks for pointing out the love angle of Tad's decision. I totally agree.

I agree with the majority in my dislike for Alonzo. In the end I want him with Karina. They both love babies and now they have one on the way. Deal with it.

I was disappointed that the Mushroom is going to be around for awhile. I'm not amused by him.

OK, end of rant.
Sue, NY

Sue, NY, I like your rant. :)

JudyB, amiga mia, I am saddened to hear about your news. How wonderful that your friends had such a friend like you.

You are a blessing to all.

Fatima

Can Brigitte BE more narcissistic (sounding like Chandler on Friends)?? She spouts off at the mouth at the HR guy when she quits and slams down her resignation on Rodrigo's desk one day then comes back the next(ish) and DEMANDS her job back with a threat to the HR guy and begging and pleading to Rodrigo! Too funny.

Thanks, Sara. I always love to read your recaps.

This novela continues to be frustrating to watch. First, they kill off my big Al,,and now it looks like they are really going to take Tad out of the picture. Yikes ...what kind of awful message are the writers sending ? .....If you are a decent good guy , you are doomed to die young ? They had better have a wonderful happily ever after storyline ready for sweet Paolo. ...my fantasy son-in-law.

Diana, that was a very wise statement you made concerning illness weakening even the evil. The way of all flesh, no ?

*hugs* to you, Judy.

Thanks, Sue. It's nice to have another perspective. I usually think I sound snippy! I agree, Tad's impending doom is putting a damper on my enjoyment, at least. That, plus what the show wants to present as "bright sides" really aren't, to me. Oh, well. There's still Paolo and Mara, Lupita, Abdul and Mally. And El is still cute.

I certainly don't want Irene with Al!

David- I like your take on the enchiladas request. Maybe he does have a hidden naco side that he's ashamed of.

Kat-I had the same "overflowing cup" thought myself as I cursed the writers.

JudyB- so sorry to hear of your loss ((hugs)).

Thanks for the list, Tofie.

And thanks to Diana, Fatima, Sue NY, Susanlynn and Vivi. I enjoy recapping and I appreciate that folks read and comment.

David, I agree that Tad's gesture was out of love but I still don't think Aloser is worthy. Kat summed up my feelings that little Al should make her happy but that DOES NOT included marrying her. Also liked your take on why Vicente wants enchiladas.

Judy, sorry for your loss. A virtual hug and prayers for you.

Sue NY, your rant was fine and didn't sound argumentative. It's upsetting when a tn lays a good foundation, has fun characters, and then haphazardly has really bad things happen to good people, and makes those we are supposed to support highly questionable at best.

tofie, thanks for another great list.

I understand why Tad made the request though I cannot stand the shrimp. What I cannot remember is if Tad knows of Alonso's betrayal with Karina and doubt he knows of Karina's pregnancy. Perhaps if he did, he'd realize Alonso is capable of ripping Irene's heart out and stomping on it and not the best steward of his beloved.

I don't think Tad knows what little Al's been up to. I can just imagine him saying "Wow...well, thanks Tad. I appreciate the vote of confidence. And, hey, man, I'm sorry about asking her to leave you. And, don't worry...I'm sure that mine and Karina's baby will help take her mind off you...."

Well then, that takes Alonso's acceptance of this sincere request from a dying man to another level of suckyness, don't it? That lit'l weasel will now puff out his chest and step right into Tad's slippers and pronounce to everyone the shoes fit.

Thanks all...I probably should have come here first instead of moping around all week. The good wishes and virtual hugs felt great.

Now if we could just wring a few writers' necks, restore Tad to full health, and send Adolfo off to the hinterlands.

By the way, a real Frenchman would never dress in that horrid way that Mushroom Man does. I don't care how much of an intellectual dweeb he is.

"By the way, a real Frenchman would never dress in that horrid way that Mushroom Man does." Lol, Judy! So true. I was surprised Brat thought he looked "distinguished." Makes me miss Gino's suits. Now, that man knew how to dress!

"What I cannot remember is if Tad knows of Alonso's betrayal with Karina"

Betrayal ????

In my opinion Alonso's deal with Karina wasn't really a betrayal of Irene since he and Irene were not dating at the time. In fact, Irene was married.

5FT, thanks for reminding it of "Gino". I said yesterday (I think) that I thought we needed a good dose of Paolo and Cunchetina. I meant to say "Gino". I loved his wacko suits. He and Cunchetina just brought a much needed joie de vivre to the whole place.

Sara, what happened to the photo of your abuelo? I really liked photo!

Mushroom Head and Fish Lips Brat just drive me up the wall. He is an A-1 certified Doofus.

Fatima

Maybe Irene was married, but Aloser kept declaring his undying love for Irene. And the next thing you know he decides to have a baby with Karina. Who knows if Karina decides she wants a sibling for their child, will they make another baby?? I wouldn't put it past them.

Poor Tad. Do the writers think we would be happy with Irene
being with Aloser after what has happened. UGH!!!

Sara, thanks for your recap.

Ann-NYC

Anon, no, the babymaking deal had nothing to do with Irene, since they weren't dating, but he was blackmailed into cheating on her when they were dating. So, I dunno if he gets a pass for only cheating so Karina wouldn't tell Irene that he was cheating. But even if that doesn't count, he did get drunk and cheat on her, which was the original blackmail ammo in the first place. Such a cheerful show this is!

Fatima, I miss Cunchetina too. The clothes! The accessories! The hair!

"Who knows if Karina decides she wants a sibling for their child, will they make another baby?? I wouldn't put it past them".

Good point Ann NYC and I respect your opinion. But what's the point of dreaming up stuff to worry about?

"But what's the point of dreaming up stuff to worry about?"

Clearly, we enjoy it, since it happens all the time! Well, we speculate, anyway. I've never thought anyone was excessively worried.

"Who knows if Karina decides she wants a sibling for their child, will they make another baby??"

The more I think about it, Ann, not only is that a legit question, but one that neither Karina nor Al addressed during their negotiations. They both kept saying they really wanted "kids." It's not unlikely they'd both decide they want more than one. But they didn't discuss it, much less discuss how they would raise the kid "together" without being together or how they would handle relationships with other people. There's a lot about this "business" deal that they really don't seem to have given a lot of thought to.

I hope Irene won't be weak and turn to Alonso. With those two who made a baby so irresponsibly as you pointed out La Diva, all four of them will be together instead of just Alonso and Irene.

Ann-NYC

Well, those darn kids never did a risk assessment.

No joke! While that might work out with the right people involved...these are not the right people!

5FT, I agree! One of the most fun things about Cunchetina was The Hair!!! See, these are the characters that make me so happy on the TN.

Fatima

RISK ASSESSMENT! Ay, tofie!!!

Fatima

Judy, your comment about MM was hilarious and spot on.

If only this tn could give us more time with the characters we like.

"If only this tn could give us more time with the characters we like."

Word, Karen! I'm missing Gino, Cunchetina, Big Abdul, Little Abdul and Mally...but even Paolo, Mara, and Lupita are largely absent lately. I'm not sure where Carmen and El fit for me. I like them fine while they're flirting or smooching. It's when they start arguing that I want to kick them both!

I am missing Big Al. Brat's life could have been so different if she had only realized what a good guy he was instead of falling in with Rotten Rod. We all make decisions..good and bad..that affect our lives.

I miss Angela too. It's as if she never existed. Gotta watch yourself and who you fall for. Don't even know to whom you would file an application to fall in love or even where the list is posted of those available. Love for those deserving is paramount come hell or high water, for those not, despite being decent folk, scorn, deception, cheating, lies, banishment or death. Love is a contact sport in TN land.

They murdered Alberto.
They are killing Tad slowly.
And they did a character assassination of Angela.

We can be grateful that they didn't do anything crazy with Paolo, Mara, Lupita, Gino&Tina, or Abdul (only briefly). I think Padre and Luz need to take a more active role in straightening out Nat, Brat (if anyone can influence her), Carmen and El.

Andres, though not my favorite guy, is being lied to right now by Nat and it is all about what is best for her. That guy will be sent packing soon enough, just hope he gets his ring back.

I kind of like Andres and I was really hoping they would fix him up with someone nice, but that doesn't look like it's going to happen. Unless one of the guests at Nat and Diego's wedding reception takes a liking to him. (I'm looking at you La Fuerza del Destino.)

Is she really lying to him? Has she ever said she's in love with him? He knows she's in love with Diego, and she's never said different. He has jumped headlong into this relationship, and even pushed things along more quickly specifically because he knows that if given enough time, Nat would bolt. He wants to pin her down before that happens.

Agree Vivi, Nat is not telling him she loves him, however she has accepted his ring and plans are underway to marry. Is it all his responsibility to hook her up to a polygraph and get the real truth out of her. We know, but he doesn't, that she hopes to erase her love for Diego with this sham of a relationship with him. What do you call it when someone is purposefully not being truthful and evasive?

I definitely don't think Nat was right in going into a relationship with someone she knows has such deep feelings for her when she has deep feelings for someone else. But he wasn't clueless about this, and he's been the one who keeps pushing and pushing for them to go faster in their relationship. And from what we've seen Nat say to people (like Irene), she has every intention of following through and really seems to think she can make things work with Andres because he is the "right" choice-- which is exactly what we here have been saying about Irene and Tad. Frankly, I think Nat and Andres are both equally at fault for the mess this is/will become.

And part of the reason Andres is not my favorite, but not a bad sort. He is blinded by childhood adoration and obsession with Nat that will never be reciprocated, never. So he too is lying, to himself.

Notice too how Andres asked Nat to marry him at her brother's wedding in front of ALL their family and friends, and then pushed their wedding date up to a month from now in front of her parents. If I guy that I LOVED ambushed me like that before we had ever had any serious discussions about our future together, we would be having a serious talk, in private, about his presumptuousness.

As much as I like Andres, I don't like that the writers have used him merely for convenience the entire show.

We don't need him right now, send him back to Tuxpan.

We need him again, bring him back from Tuxpan.

I always think the same thing when he makes that hon, I'll be away for a few days, call

So I guess it's not really Andres as much as the manipulative writers that annoy me.

Oh, and you can do a twitter poll to find out who Ruffo's character stays with on TdA and you can't do that for Tad/Irene/Aloser?

Not that it would have helped us in the states, but I feel sure Tad would have won.

I like Andres. However, as in most novelas, he is the guy in love with the leading lady who will never love him because she is destined to end up with her onetruelove, her soulmate. Diego is a disappointing galan, so I would rather see her with Andres...but we all know that will never happen. Andres is pining after someone who will never return his love and devotion. Have you ever known someone in real life who pursued someone who just was not into them ? Often, at the beginning of a relationship , , one person is more in love , but sometimes love grows and the two both fall in love equally.

Nat (I originally typed "Not"...ha!) was telling Andres she wasn't into him from Episode 1, before there was even another potential guy on the scene. It seems like he's been operating under the "Eventually, I'll wear her down" assumption. I would agree that they can make it work if Nat is committed to making a real go of it, but I don't think she is. If I were advising Andres, I'd tell hem to stop pushing so hard and wait for her to be the one to make some effort.

Hey, Nat, I've been in hiding on a slow boat to China for two years fearing I killed some dude defending your honor. I'm a little slow but is the guy you are seeing and love that same guy that tried to rape you, working at his granddads company, and he's married? It is, ok, I'm gettin back on that boat.

Catching up on the comments. I have always liked Andres and glad to see I am not alone.

Susanlynn and Kat, I know of 2 real life couples whose situation was somewhat similar to Nat and Andres. After losing the love of her life, my friend succumbed to the relentless pursuit of another and married him. He was very happy, she? Not so much. They stayed married many years but eventually divorced. The only surprise was that they stayed together so long. The second couple married after he lost his one true love. They are still married over 30 years later. He did grow to love her and give all outward appearances of being happy. So, it can happen.

Sara, I am hoping for someone for him in the end. Maybe they will resurrect Angela from where ever they've stashed her???

Ughh.

Diana

On the subject of Angela, the actress' name is Tania Ibanez. I googled her and Manuel 'Flaco' Ibanez came up; could she be one of his kids?

Also, she was in Muchachita (como tu) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gRbgPnKe0E (skip ot the 38 min. mark and her name oddly enough is Natalia LOL)

Corazon- Thanks for the heads up. They are indeed father and daughter: https://twitter.com/Tania_Ibanez/status/478275880251187200/photo/1

5ft ...hmmm...I like your Freudian slip because right now "Not" is a more accurate descriptor than her actual name "Nat." I say ...go with it. !!!

Corazon- Here's another:
https://twitter.com/Tania_Ibanez/status/409469311456014336/photo/1

I'm confused. I thought this novela was 186 eps long. How can we be in Ultimas Semanas already?

As I've noted on the other two shows I'm watching, I have been remiss in thanking the recappers for the stellar jobs you all do. You guys are awesome.

Nanette

Nannette - I think the episode numbering is off because the number we are watching is what has been shown on Uni, but the actual number is far more advanced due to all those two-and-three episode combos we received at some point.

It's because of the 2 hour broadcasts from May to July.

I wondered about that. However, I thought we had figured out how to convert them into the proper number.

I'm glad this is further along than I thought. I love it, but am so ready to just concentrate on one TN (I'm watching Robo, DQTQ2 and MCET, now).

Not really "convert" them, so much as we had a couple of commenters letting us know what the Mexico episode numbers were. It was fairly consistent that the 1-hour eps were 1 episode and the 2-hour eps were 3 episodes. It doesn't seem like they've been doing any further editing, but we can't know for sure.

We might be at something like 167?

As usual I'm "a day (or 2) late and a dollar short" in thanking Sara for the recap. I loved it.

Yes, it does look like Tad has lost his battle with leukemia. I teared up watching the hospital scene with Nat and Irene. It looked to me like Irene was really crying, judging by the dilated blood vessels in her forehead. I'm not surprised though because good actors know how to really get emotional.

Andres is like many red blooded men who go after the woman he sees as "the prize". I think Nat confused feelings for him with "love on the rebound". Now she realizes its not love and it'll be interesting to see how she gets out of it.

Anyone besides me wanting to see Nat and Diego together?

I'm sure you're not, but I'm afraid we might have scared any others who are looking forward to the inevitable Nat-Diego reconciliation away. I hope not! I can't say I'm rooting for it, myself, just resigned to the inevitability.
