De Que Te Quiero Te Quiero #147 Friday 8/1/14
Yes, it's true. Tad's cancer is back and he's decided not to continue any treatment. He wants his final days to be spent being happy with Irene and Natalia. The man is so noble he even apologizes for not being able to follow through on the trip to Paris. Irene and Natalia cry a lot. I am frustrated that the one noble and consistent character is leaving us. Diego also comes to the hospital. He and Nat are somewhat civil to each other. She hugs him and he is very supportive. Irene comments on the emotion in Nat's hug.
Tad asks Diego to pass a message on to Alonso. Tad wants to see him. Alonso obliges. Tad wants him to take care of Irene. (eeek. How could I forget the end so quickly? Definitely fill this in for me.)
Vicente continues to look pitiful and meek. He's also very confused and not all there. His lucidity comes and goes. He wants Hilda to bring him enchiladas (which just tickled me for some reason. I'm going to hell.)
Diego comes to visit Vicente. After hearing about Vicente's condition, he remembers how he was kept in a coma and drugged. He starts making connections. Rosa tells Diego about Rodrigo embezzling funds.
Rodrigo talks with the hired Doc about detoxing Vicente so no one will realize his confused state is due to the drugs. The detox could take a month. If they do it too fast it could be dangerous. I really didn't follow this conversation very well, so I appreciate any help.
Brigitte and Paul reconcile. Sort of. He wants to know who the baby daddy is and Brigitte balks. Paul makes it clear that he won't be bankrolling Brigitte. True affection or nada.
Paul and Carmen share memories of good times. Eleazar comes in and acts a little jealous and macho. Not horribly so, but it's clear he's bothered by Paul. After Paul leaves Carmen tells Eleazar he's worrying her and his mother with is mood swings and jealousy. He needs to take a chill pill.
Brigitte tries to get her job back at Caprico. Ha ha. They won't let her come back. I guess there are no buttons left to count.
Ugh. Sorry guys. I'm sure there's a lot missing.
OH!
Avances
Nat finds the wig and slaps the snot out of Brigitte!!

I was yelling at the TV for other reasons and you know what they are: Tad leaving us.
This just upsets me to no end. This is going to be one very miserable ending for me. I don't care what happens now. Really.
Fatima
"I am frustrated that the one noble and consistent character is leaving us." Well said! And I'm right there with you. I wasn't happy with him basically bequeathing Irene to Alonso once he's gone. I know Irene's going to need support, but come on...she can get support from Natalia, Carmen, Diego, the unnamed therapist she's supposed to have been seeing all this time, a widows' support group. It doesn't have to be Alonso. This is salt in the wound!
"He wants Hilda to bring him enchiladas (which just tickled me for some reason. I'm going to hell.)" It seemed like an odd request. Not for me, I mean..hello, enchiladas, yum!...but I didn't realize Vicente had a thing for enchiladas. Maybe the drugs are giving him weird cravings.
Speaking of the drugs, I felt like I was missing some of that conversation as well, though I swear I was paying attention! What I feel like I missed was how long Vicente needs to stay on the medication. What I'm pretty sure I understood was that the drugs will cause permanent damage that will keep Vicente acting loopy, but that they'll need about a month to detox him so that when they do the blood tests that are going to be part of his evaluation, they won't detect it.
Brigitte and Paul...ay, yi, yi! First he plays all virtuous and whines that she was trying to play him and decides he will only give her emotional support, but no more. He even told her to quit playing games about getting him back together with Carmen. Then he shows up for dinner and tries to woo Carmen. So...he objects to his daughter using him for money, but he's going to use his daughter to get into Carmen's pants? Is that what's going on here? That's some quality father-daughter bonding.
You wrote from your heart, and a kind and concerned place it is. You were not only plagued with technical difficulties but had to deal with "Tad's cancer is back and he's decided not to continue any treatment" as well.
You did a wonderful job. Truly. You captured what I believe is uppermost on our minds - Tadeo's now apparantly official fatal illness and his continuing nobility.
Although I can't anything to what you wrote, I will simply say that "Brigitte tries to get her job back at Caprico. Ha ha. They won't let her come back. I guess there are no buttons left to count" briefly parted the dark storm clouds this episode brought.
Your "Vicente continues to look pitiful and meek" was spot on. I was startled at how fragile he appeared. Even evil can be weakened by illness apparantly.
I'm not even sure I want to know anything more about Tad wanting Alonso to take care of Irene. I have to ask - does anyone want Irene with Al?? I'm just curious as the anti-Al sentiment seems to be overwhelming here. I hope Irene decides to be a single, strong woman. I mean that would only echo the lives of many women in the real world. Perhaps too much to ask for here.
Love this show. Hate what happened tonight, that as you noted "I am frustrated that the one noble and consistent character is leaving us".
At least we all can commiserate with each other.
Sara, thank you.
Diana
Seems we are in solidarity in our sadness at losing Tad.
Kat, I thought "So...he objects to his daughter using him for money, but he's going to use his daughter to get into Carmen's pants? Is that what's going on here? That's some quality father-daughter bonding" was insightful and a great comment.
And you're right Fatima, Tad's situation has unfortunately taken much of the joy out of this.
Diana
No. Not really. I was a big fan of Irene with OriginalRecipe!Al, but not the current Al...the one who has committed multiple breaches of professional ethics, lied to Irene, impregnated Karina, and tried to convince Irene to divorce the incredibly kind man who's about to die and hand her over anyway. And, really, Tad can ask him to be around and love her and take care of her, etc., and that doesn't mean they have to be together-together. But, this being a TN, I'm afraid that's where we're headed.
It's amazing to me that the writers think that Tad "gifting" Irene to HWW would make the viewers support their pairing.
Yes Kat the Paul-Brat plot seems crazy. So he'll be lurking around for until the end? And since her work ploy didn't go as planned, I'm wondering when their relationship will blow up again.
Wow, you did this from memory? Great job.!
I am sorry to see Tad go. He was always honest, caring and considerate, as his last scene with Alonso demonstrates: He is concerned about the stability and care of Irene in his absence; surely a sign of love, although most of you will disagree with this angle of thought.
Does the reference to enchiladas pertain to an earlier phase in Vicentes's life when he wasn't so rich?
As you know by now, next to Vicente and Rod, my least favorite character is Andres. Last night, nobody even thought to call him to inform him about Tad's death spiral.
For me, this defines his placement of importance as things unfold.
Ooh! the avances!
David
5FT said it all.
David, I fully understand your line of thinking. :))
Fatima
Well sista, I'll meet you there
Triple dammit. Alonso gets the bestest gift from sanny clause on his deathbed. Bridge between the gulf of a selfish ego driven boy and a selfless love inspired man.
Tad - instinctively, you throw yourself on the grenade
Paul - do you really want her or just hate to lose
El - perhaps you have lost your marbles
Brigitte - support my butt, what does that mean
Diego - what do you have to do with any of this Tad stuff, go home
Vicente - hello, anybody home?
Hot Rod - read the fine print next time
Rosa - stop just wringing your hands, do something
Nat - well, you do cry better than anyone I've seen so you're in your element
Irene - hmmm, guilt free sex
Still, the "enchilada" comment cracked me up. And I needed a good laugh. If you're a Flake, Please Stay One!!!! Your humor is a delight.
Judy- Good to see you back. I'm so sorry to hear about your recent loses. Over the years on this site, I've seen/read how deeply you cherish your friends, and how dedicated you are to them, up to their last minutes of life. I'm sending a virtual hug your way, amiga.
Looks like Tad's (impending) death has really put a damper on any chance of a weekend discussion of much of any other happenings.
5ft, I always appreciate your input and points of view. You can present a different perspective without sounding argumentive. I wish I had that ability. I usually hesitate to go against "the crowd" for fear of sounding contrary or argumentive.
My Spanish is not that good, so I like to read comments about the story.
David, thanks for pointing out the love angle of Tad's decision. I totally agree.
I agree with the majority in my dislike for Alonzo. In the end I want him with Karina. They both love babies and now they have one on the way. Deal with it.
I was disappointed that the Mushroom is going to be around for awhile. I'm not amused by him.
OK, end of rant.
Sue, NY
JudyB, amiga mia, I am saddened to hear about your news. How wonderful that your friends had such a friend like you.
You are a blessing to all.
Fatima
This novela continues to be frustrating to watch. First, they kill off my big Al,,and now it looks like they are really going to take Tad out of the picture. Yikes ...what kind of awful message are the writers sending ? .....If you are a decent good guy , you are doomed to die young ? They had better have a wonderful happily ever after storyline ready for sweet Paolo. ...my fantasy son-in-law.
Diana, that was a very wise statement you made concerning illness weakening even the evil. The way of all flesh, no ?
Thanks, Sue. It's nice to have another perspective. I usually think I sound snippy! I agree, Tad's impending doom is putting a damper on my enjoyment, at least. That, plus what the show wants to present as "bright sides" really aren't, to me. Oh, well. There's still Paolo and Mara, Lupita, Abdul and Mally. And El is still cute.
David- I like your take on the enchiladas request. Maybe he does have a hidden naco side that he's ashamed of.
Kat-I had the same "overflowing cup" thought myself as I cursed the writers.
JudyB- so sorry to hear of your loss ((hugs)).
Thanks for the list, Tofie.
And thanks to Diana, Fatima, Sue NY, Susanlynn and Vivi. I enjoy recapping and I appreciate that folks read and comment.
Judy, sorry for your loss. A virtual hug and prayers for you.
Sue NY, your rant was fine and didn't sound argumentative. It's upsetting when a tn lays a good foundation, has fun characters, and then haphazardly has really bad things happen to good people, and makes those we are supposed to support highly questionable at best.
tofie, thanks for another great list.
Now if we could just wring a few writers' necks, restore Tad to full health, and send Adolfo off to the hinterlands.
By the way, a real Frenchman would never dress in that horrid way that Mushroom Man does. I don't care how much of an intellectual dweeb he is.
Betrayal ????
In my opinion Alonso's deal with Karina wasn't really a betrayal of Irene since he and Irene were not dating at the time. In fact, Irene was married.
Sara, what happened to the photo of your abuelo? I really liked photo!
Mushroom Head and Fish Lips Brat just drive me up the wall. He is an A-1 certified Doofus.
Fatima
Poor Tad. Do the writers think we would be happy with Irene
being with Aloser after what has happened. UGH!!!
Sara, thanks for your recap.
Ann-NYC
Fatima, I miss Cunchetina too. The clothes! The accessories! The hair!
Good point Ann NYC and I respect your opinion. But what's the point of dreaming up stuff to worry about?
Clearly, we enjoy it, since it happens all the time! Well, we speculate, anyway. I've never thought anyone was excessively worried.
The more I think about it, Ann, not only is that a legit question, but one that neither Karina nor Al addressed during their negotiations. They both kept saying they really wanted "kids." It's not unlikely they'd both decide they want more than one. But they didn't discuss it, much less discuss how they would raise the kid "together" without being together or how they would handle relationships with other people. There's a lot about this "business" deal that they really don't seem to have given a lot of thought to.

If only this tn could give us more time with the characters we like.
Word, Karen! I'm missing Gino, Cunchetina, Big Abdul, Little Abdul and Mally...but even Paolo, Mara, and Lupita are largely absent lately. I'm not sure where Carmen and El fit for me. I like them fine while they're flirting or smooching. It's when they start arguing that I want to kick them both!
We don't need him right now, send him back to Tuxpan.
We need him again, bring him back from Tuxpan.
Not that it would have helped us in the states, but I feel sure Tad would have won.
Susanlynn and Kat, I know of 2 real life couples whose situation was somewhat similar to Nat and Andres. After losing the love of her life, my friend succumbed to the relentless pursuit of another and married him. He was very happy, she? Not so much. They stayed married many years but eventually divorced. The only surprise was that they stayed together so long. The second couple married after he lost his one true love. They are still married over 30 years later. He did grow to love her and give all outward appearances of being happy. So, it can happen.
Sara, I am hoping for someone for him in the end. Maybe they will resurrect Angela from where ever they've stashed her???
Ughh.
Diana
As I've noted on the other two shows I'm watching, I have been remiss in thanking the recappers for the stellar jobs you all do. You guys are awesome.
Nanette
I'm glad this is further along than I thought. I love it, but am so ready to just concentrate on one TN (I'm watching Robo, DQTQ2 and MCET, now).
We might be at something like 167?
Yes, it does look like Tad has lost his battle with leukemia. I teared up watching the hospital scene with Nat and Irene. It looked to me like Irene was really crying, judging by the dilated blood vessels in her forehead. I'm not surprised though because good actors know how to really get emotional.
Andres is like many red blooded men who go after the woman he sees as "the prize". I think Nat confused feelings for him with "love on the rebound". Now she realizes its not love and it'll be interesting to see how she gets out of it.
Anyone besides me wanting to see Nat and Diego together?
