De Que Te Quiero Te Quiero #164- Tuesday 8/26/14
In the interest of full dislosure: I didn't take one stinkin' note and I didn't pay close attention. I've organized by "couples" (used loosely.)
Carmen and El
The get busy "reconciling", but a radio call from Cenudo breaks up their fun. Rod has robbed a drug store.
Karina and Alonso
Karina begs to help her get HOTscar back. They discuss how the baby daddy thing is going to work out with Oscar in the picture. Alonso wants it to be clear that HE is the father. Karina promises that the baby will know that Al is his dad and Oscar is her husband.
Nat and her Ego Part I
She sketches and dreams of Diego. She mopes about him not texting back.
Diego and the New Lawyer Part I
Diego wants to finish the divorce proceeding that were started before Alberto died. He makes an appointment with a lawyer.
Lupita, Carmen and El
Lupita is thrilled that Carmen and El are finally together.
Rod and his Neck
He's in a lot of pain. Even the drugs don't touch it. He goes to a clinic and they recommend x-rays. He may have a serious injury.
El and his Boss
Boss man tells him to take the day. He's been working hard on the Rod case. He heads home and drifts off to sleep thinking about reconciliation interruptus.
Nat and her Ego Part II
Diego comes to Irene's office for in for the materials list for Telerman. Nat pulls him aside to give him the info and grill him about Simona. Diego remains aloof and tells her it's his business not hers.
Alonso and Oscar
Oscar is a simple guy. He's not used to all this complicated buffoonery that is Al and Karina's "business deal." Luckily, Al convinces him that Karina really loves Oscar and doesn't want to lose him. Al swears that there is nothing between him and Karina. Oscar climbs on board the crazy train. Run, dude! Run!
El and Carmen, Again
They are going of to share some alone time. She is excited.
Nat and her Ego Part III
She hands Diego the sketch that she made of him. Now, correct me if I'm wrong...but she still has no idea if he is free or not.
El and Luz
She gives him an engagement ring to Carmen.
Nat and her Ego (Part IV) and Irene
Nat whines about Diego's indifference.
Rod and his Demons
He's still in pain. He sees Alberto who tells him to turn himself in. Ghost Alberto starts to choke Rod, but Rod shakes off the hallucination.
El and Carmen
El picks up Carmen so they can finish "reconciling."
Rod and Brat
Rod calls Brat for money. She wants a fourth of his fortune and to go with him to the Cayman Islands. he agrees. She is to call him when she has the money. After hanging up, she weighs her options. She pretty quickly decides against helping Rod since he got her in trouble last time. Staying with her father is the best option since he can offer her a pretty cushy life. Then again, if she helps capture Rod, she comes off looking like the hero. She decides to call El, but his phone is busy and when she calls his office he's not there.
Diego and his New Lawyer part II (Followed by Nat and her Ego Part V)
The lawyer informs him that the divorce was practically finished. They just need signatures and it should be done. Diego asks how long it should take. The lawyer thinks about 3 weeks. Diego calls Nat and asks if she can meet him at the address he's going to give her. She assumes he's wanting a reconciliation. She's over the moon.
Irene and Al
Al brings Irene a red rose. Vicente catches them smooching and plays the Grump. She needs to stop giving empty smooches. Is it serious or not? Al is pretty happy to see Grumps making the argument for commitment. Irene still asks for more time. Al acts aloof and she calls Al and Diego on "Operation Indifference." Irene and Grumps talk later. He talks about how in his day one didn't run around kissing people all willy nilly. They didn't go around asking their secretaries to destroy wills, either. Irene asks him nicely not to meddle and Vicent says he just wants her happy.
Karina and Oscar
Karina hears strange noises in her apartment. Instead of calling NueveUnoUno, she gets up to investigate. It's HOTscar with a guitar playing duo. They sing "Perdón". Karina does and she and Oscar are back together. Karina wants to know how Al explained things and Oscar said that when the baby is born is will belong to the three of them. (And I am always a sucker for a serenade scene.)
El and his Demons
So, was this supposed to be funny? From the time El picks up Carmen until they get in the hotel room, he keeps seeing Chato, El Italiano, Abdul and Paul everywhere. Meh. I didn't care. Though I did sort of laugh when all of them popped out from behind the pillows.
Labels: te-quiero
I also found the former lovers of Carmen so stupid and boring.
And I still don't think much of the Alonso/Irene relationship. Now the Karina/Alonso twosome is a trio. Poor baby.
How can Irene go along with such a setup.
Ann-NYC
Well, at least since Rod is so busted up, there's no way he can impersonate Diego. :)
The writers have three more days to clear up the will issue.
I really don't get why Al can't let Irene mourn her husband in peace, and WAIT. It's not like he won't have plenty to do in the next few months with the arrival of his baby.
"Oscar is a simple guy.[...] Run, dude! Run!" And so far, it's just Karina, Al, Oscar, and the baby...wait till he finds out he'll also end up dealing with Irene and her whole family. I admit, I'm a sucker for a serenata too.
Not only did Nat not know if Diego is "free" or not...Mr. 5ft was wondering if Diego ever bothered to tell Simona that he's technically married. I'm pretty sure I would have remembered a conversation about his twin brother marrying Nat and using his name and not being able to turn his brother in for usurping his identity and having to accept that he's legally married to Nat even though he wasn't actually there or even conscious at the time. I mean, I know I tend to tune him out, but I think I would have remembered that.
"He talks about how in his day one didn't run around kissing people all willy nilly. They didn't go around asking their secretaries to destroy wills, either." Lol! I love how you slipped that in there!
Bryan, Nat and Diego's relationship has always been complicated. There was that one brief period between when he became a widower and when Rod took advantage of a well-timed car accident to leave him in a coma and take his place. Things were going smoothly right then, but other than that...hot mess! For most of the relationship, it's been about other people or circumstances getting in the way, but lately...it's all them! And the latest makeup/breakup was a new low.
I cannot stand that weasel Alonso. I just can't stand him and I think he and Irene are the WORST match ever.
I am beyond bummed at how this is ending.
Fatima
A Broken Record
I was kind of hoping Rod would just be overcome with pain and possibly pass away in a hotel room but I guess that wouldn't be good drama.
Fatima, you are not a broken record though I say that b/c I'm playing the same song ;)
"Remember when you ran away and I got on my knees and begged you not to leave because I'd go berzerk?
Well, you left me anyhow and the days got worse and worse and now you see I've gone completely out of my mind.
And They're coming to take me away Ha Ha
They're coming to take me away ho ho he he ha ha
to the funny farm where life is beautiful all the time, and I'll be happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats
and they're coming to take me away ha ha"
There better be some action. With just 3 hours left this sure hasn't felt like they are concluding ANYTHING.
Although this series isn't going out on a high note, as you so noted, your finale stuck all the right chords. Listing the "action" by couples was a great idea.
"Oscar climbs on board the crazy train. Run, dude! Run!"; "Diego and his New Lawyer part II (Followed by Nat and her Ego Part V)" and "El picks up Carmen so they can finish "reconciling" were among my favorites.
Like you, I laughed when the cast of "Carmen's ex's" popped out from behind the pillows. I got a chuckle out of them appearing everywhere. When you stop and think about it, El does have to accept there are more than 1 or 2 ex-novios.
"Oscar is a simple guy. He's not used to all this complicated buffoonery that is Al and Karina's "business deal." Umm, really Oscar? You knew the deal right from the get go. I'm blaming this momentary lapse of character on the writers, not Oscar.
Loved seeing "real, live" Alberto instead of projected image Alberto. Rod is definitely hurting and looks like things will come to a head tonight.
What a team this has been. You, Kat, Karen and Vivi have brought this to vivid life for us daily. While the writing these last few weeks has been so disappointing, we've been able to cope through your insights and humor. Thank you. Your patience, time and effort are truly appreciated.
I will miss tonight's episode so will look foward to eagerly reading the recap tomorrow.
And Fatima, you are NEVER a broken record. Always a delight.
Diana
"reconciliation interruptus"
"Oscar climbs on board the crazy train."
and
"He talks about how in his day one didn't run around kissing people all willy nilly. They didn't go around asking their secretaries to destroy wills, either."
Exactly! Still, I have to admit I remain a sucker for Grumps' secret little grins. Guess I'm on board the crazy train myself.
Loved the serenata because it was simple. No fancy dress. Rumpled guy was a good singer. And ON-KEY. Which is often not the case with these serenades.
Hated the old lover hallucinations that El was having. Doesn't bode well for the relationship. In real life, these two wouldn't last 6 months. He's obviously still bothered by all these old flames. Found it tedious and irritating, rather than funny. But maybe that was because after teaching aerobics, I mowed our big lawn in 90 degree heat. Sweat Lodge anyone?
But, thankfully, this isn't real life so we'll no doubt sail out on three smooching, deliriously happy forever couples...whoops, make that four with Oscar and Karina. Hey, maybe Grumps and Rose will get together too! AARP canoodling.
Thanks Sara. You've given us a fun ride, and much better than the actual telenovela.
I agree with JudyB that Carmen and El would not last very long in the real world. Here we are at this stage of the game and El is still struggling with Carmen's PAST novios. When he started "seeing" all of these men pop up here and there, I could not believe the writers were still using this just 3 days from the Gran Fin.
This is an example of lazy, weak writing. Why does this seem to happen so much in the TN?
Alonso is the sorriest excuse for a "galan" that I have ever seen. He is a WEASEL. Are the writers really expecting us to believe that Irene (who has had such a messed up life), can go from Tad to the Weasel Alonso?!
What is going to be "happy" about so many immature couples getting together? I think I missed the boat on this one.
Fatima
Nat - have your mother buy you come color crayons to make the likeness pop
Irene - not like there's an expiration date
Alonso - somebody needs to slap that sulk off your face
Diego - The Punisher
Vicente - guess girls just wanna have fun
Oscar - what happens if the kid likes me better
Karina - gonna be hard but we'll wait till after we're married to consummate
El - oh god, there's more
Carmen - ok, bring it
Brigitte - see there, 1 + 1 does equal 2
@Tofie,"So, my cat of 18 years died several years ago and I was distraught. I didn't even have to say anything to my husband to keep him from humping my leg."
Thanks for sharing your personal story with us. I'm so sorry to hear about your husband's reaction to the loss of your cat.
It's not the first time you shared this so I can tell that writing about it repeatedly makes you feel better. So thanks for sharing.
PS: I'm glad nothing like this actually happened in the novela.
Eleazar may also feel if Carmen dumped these guys, she may dump him too.
But just as he is not thinking about Kimberly or any of his other past women, Carmen is not thinking about Chato or any of her past men. He needs to realize & accept that.
It's a very big step they are taking. Once they congress, there's no turning back.
More Diego/Natalia/Karina/Oscar/Irene/Alonso lines
I don't think the truth about the will is going to be revealed. They're trying to wrap things up in a neat bow with Irene & Vicente getting along and the truth about the will would just blow things up at the last minute.
Plus, Grumps is not long for this earth with his age and heart problems so we will just have to imagine that Grumps has made out a will offscreen that Irene, Diego & Natalia will inherit Caprico.
Brigitte has not gotten her punishment yet. She's been horrible to every character on the show. I doubt she'll go to jail or be killed, and Carmen isn't going to turn her back on her or the baby. Yet, 3 days before the show is over Brigitte is still up to her old tricks. She hasn't learned. She only wants to turn in Rod for the reward money and to get in good with Mushroom so he can whisk her off to luxury. If she thought for one minute that Rod really would sweep her off to the Cayman Islands she would be helping him and she wouldn't give Mushroom or the Garcias one thought ever again.
Like I said, Carmen would never turn her back on Brigitte but I'd be fine if Paolo & Natalia never spoke to her again. Abdul & Lupita would just go along with the program.
I'd like to survey Mexican audiences and see how many like extensions to TNs.
Has anyone seen a TN that has been extended that, at the very least, didn't ruin the show? Kept the same quality? Made it even better?
Vivi: I was going to ask the question on when this TN started it's extension. Is it really only the last two weeks?
Nanette
I think I know how Oscar feels. Our (about) 6 months pregnant daughter (the mother of our twins) decided to take care of a neighbor's 3 month old daughter while the neighbor works.
Yesterday it was hot, and our daughter, the twins and my wife decided to go swimming in the pool. I got stuck watching the baby while everyone else was outside frolicking in the pool.
Actually this wasn't a bad thing. That baby is VERY good. She only cries if she is hungry, if she needs a diaper change, or (get this) the car she is in goes through a fast food drive-through.
So, Oscar, (I'm lifting an adult beverage here) I hope your experiences with the Alonso-Karina creation goes well.
David
Of course if Brigitte ends up going to jail, Carmen & Eleazar will end up raising that child, too.
I kept asking the twins if the baby liked French fries, and they repeatedly told me, "She can't have French fries, she doesn't have any teeth."
David
I liked the El/Carmen/ex-lovers sequence. (The view is very nice from the crazy train, you should try it!) Imagining El may have a bit of trouble 'manning up' though, poor fellow.
One comment about Irene and Al. Having been in Irene's shoes, I can attest to the fact that widows miss touch more than just about anything else. Even though she needs time before making a commitment, the attention, the kisses, the caresses are such a balm. (I was lucky - I married Alonso first and have had 41 lovely years with Tadeo)
David- LOL! The twins must have thought Grandpa was pretty silly for asking such a silly question.
Fatima, glad I could encourage you as you do for those of us who recap and comment. I think so much of our gripping about this tn is that it had such promise at the start and there were some really great characters (Lupita, Paolo, Gino, and others). Its been going off the rails and the past few weeks seem really slip shod.
David your grandparenting stories are so fun and show how delightful it must be to be one.
And speaking of grandparenting, Baby Jack, who is now Big Boy Jack, looks like a slightly more disheveled version of the twins on Mi Corazón es Tuyo. I sometimes watch it just for that reason.
Vivi, I try to ask silly but instructive questions to the twins. They seem to think it is a great game.
Karen, don't know what age you are, but when the time comes I am sure that you will feel wonderful about interacting with the children of your children.
David
Your words reflect my feelings exactly. While I understand that the novela has a lot to be desired, it doesn't make reading endless gripes, complaints and name calling a fun way to settle down after a stressful/busy day at work. I'm one of those optimistic folks who sees the glass as half full. Glad to see that there's someone else on board who isn't getting angry and stressed out because of something I have absolutely no control over. Fortunately, there are some commenters (and recappers) whose views I enjoy and look forward to because they heighten my enjoyment of the novela.
David, I've lost your e-mail. If you still have mine or Mike's, we'd love to see the latest photos of the twins. In return, we'll brag a bit about Aly, who is now two, and her brother Maddock, who is 4 months
Oh, I enjoyed the show, believe me. Are my recaps cranky sometimes? (ok, a lot.) Yes.
Why?...
Because it annoys me when writers and Televisa drag things out to make a buck instead of telling a good story.
Becuase Univision edited the heck out of this.
Because Univision thought 2 hours a night for about two months was a good idea.
Because I can still like/love something and gripe about it. Hello? Do you think teachers love every.single.second. of their job? Hell no. (Ask me how I know.)But griping helps you keep your blood pressure down.
I love telenovelas. I'm trying to keep up with 3 right now. But sometimes they annoy me and I just say so.
When recappers sign on for the "job", they are often making a blind commitment. They often don't know how long a show will last and they certainly don't know if it will be good or remain good (Talk to some CI and Robo recappers...they deserve awards.)
Your recaps were on point. I had no problem with them or the so-called "griping." I find it odd that people who hate griping, grip about people griping. The writing is atrocious and deserves to be pointed out. Everyone has a right to their opinion and just because your opinion or mine doesn't agree with someone else's doesn't mean we're "half-empty" pessimistic people. Keep up the good work Sara.
