♫♫♪ I Wanna Hold Your Ha-a-a-a-and ♪♪♫

[….with apologies to Ringo, Paul, George and John qepd -ed.]

Cap. 20

Alicia and classmate are home intending to practice a cheer leading routine for the   lacrosse team.  The two girls bump into Nando who’s on his way out.  Classmate sees hearts and flowers for Nando, still in neck brace and the retro head-warming golf cap, who is heading off to who knows where and for who knows what (not that any of us in Viewerville cares a whit whether we know what or where …..)  Nando is perturbed and tells Ali and friend to watch where they’re going.

Downstairs the twins have asked Ana to help with a homework assignment (?) dealing with high-society papis.  She’ll have to get back to them on that one.  Ana takes a moment to correct Luz’s use of popular slang per Don Fernando.  Then while the other kids are changing clothes, Sebastian confides in Ana that he knows he sucks at Lacrosse and is not looking forward to practice.  Ana wonders how DonFer will react when he learns about them secretly registering Seb for Hip-Hop class despite his refusals. She lets Seb skip practice for that day and he tells her that, rather than having her talk to his papi about wanting out and sticking with Hip-Hop instead, he’s going to talk to his dad himself.  Ana is thrilled at the maturity Seb's showing.  (We yawn.)

At the office DonFer learns that Isabel didn’t make it in for work that morning and mentions to the secretary he’s heading home early to make sure he can eat with his children.  She’ll try reaching Bela on her cell.  Bela is having a pity party for one while Mama runs down the cost for the romantic dinner from the night before which no one ate and for the chamber music that nobody stayed to listen to…..(No.  Neither of them knows how it’s going to be paid for.)  Since Bela doesn’t want to face Fernando she’s decided to stay home.  Mama warns her that she could lose her job. That’s just fine as far as Bela is concerned. --The office calls and she refuses to answer her cell.

Meanwhile, Manuela tells Ana that her strategy tips for unrequited lovers worked like a charm.  Mani got Bruno to kiss her and it was terrify!

Across town, the demoralized Johnny is drowning his sorrows with cheap booze and ignoring Jennifer’s warnings to forget about Ana.  He’s lost her to Don Fernando and that’s that.  Johnny gets really ticked off the more he thinks about it and races over to the ritzy side of town to give DonFer a pieced of his soggy grey matter.  Jen can’t run after him because she suddenly suffers an unexpected pain in her gut which literally bowls her over.

Briana and Ali come into the kitchen practicing their cheer in their costumes.  Ana has them change before DonFer sees the two of them prancing around in thigh high skimpy skirts.  Before leaving to change, Ali teases Bri by telling Ana and Mani about Bri’s crush on Big Bro’ Nando. Ana’s surprised and pleased to hear that some girl of the appropriate age group for a change is interested in Nando.  (So are we.)

Jen reaches Ana on her cell and lets her know that Johnny is on a mean drunk and promising to do something “he should have done a while ago” which probably means trouble for somebody.

Actually, trouble is brewing upstairs in DonFer’s closet where the twins have decided they’ll use one of their daddy’s jackets to add emphasis to the school project.  Guille heads off to the kitchen, puts one over on Bruno and Mani, and sneaks out a pair of scissors to shorten the sleeves of the jacket so it will fit his brother better.  Bruno is too concerned with asking Manuela not to quit her job with los Lascurain to really pursue it…..

Back at Lascurain, Inc., DonFer advises Leon to stay in school and treat his daughter right.  No problem, says El Leon.  He’s in love with Fannie and wouldn’t dream of screwing up that relationship (nor screwing, either, from the looks of it).  Leon heads out to deliver a few packages as Johnny staggers drunkenly through the front door.  He picks a fight in the reception area with DonFer, literally, and lands a punch smack dab on the unsuspecting, self-avowing pacifist Fernando’s mouth.  "What was that for?"  For stealing Ana away from him after four—count ‘em—four wonderful years!  Sorry, but their problems aren’t any of his business, DonFer politely replies.  The sotted and sobbing Johnny woefully explains how he asked Ana to marry him the night before and how she said no.   Say what?  “--She’s in --hick--love with you!”   Leon finally brings Security.  As they drag Johnny --hick-- off, he yells back inside to DonFer that “Ana isn’t what she seems.”

Back at Bruja Central, Mama Yolanda suggests that they’ve only lost the battle, but not the war.  All Bela has to do is win over the seven kids and she’ll have Don Fernando wrapped around her little finger.  So, Bela decides to go shopping.

When DonFer arrives home a bit later in the day, Seb has just choreographed and taught a hip-hop cheer to Ali and Bri.
tight assed Ferenando gets upset with the skimpy skirts, natch, and then is even angrier when he learns Seb skipped his Lacrosse practice and now insists on taking Hip-Hop (which ultimately leads to nose-rings, tattoos and defacing walls with spray paint, according to DonFer’s way of thinking). All Hell breaks loose when he finds out about the ruined thousand peso suit and blames Ana as all of this costly mischief has happened on her watch.

Fanny and El Leon arrive at the manse to find Fanny’s new Audi wagon waiting in the drive.  Leon is bummed cuz, as he tells her, even if he worked an entire lifetime he could never afford to buy her a car like that.  Doesn’t matter to Fanny.  She will love him either rich or poor.

DonFer takes Ana into the library for a private chat and tells her about the fight at the office with Johnny.  The fight didn’t bother him, but what Johnny said about her did: that she was “not what she appeared to be.”  Before she has to explain, Fanny interrupts to thank Papi for the new car.  He mentions he formally approves of her dating Leon as long as they both continue to study and Leon doesn’t goof off at work.   Ana diverts by suggesting they all celebrate and spend the day as a family by taking a trip to the zoo.

Bela arrives too late with her scads of packages to bribe Fernando’s kids with.  Nope, he and Ana have taken the kids to the zoo.  Boo-hoo for you.  She passes out on the couch.

Nico visits Jen while Johnny boozes and bellows about how he told off Fernando over Ana.  After Nico leaves, Johnny brags that he warned Fernando that Ana wasn’t the woman she appeared to be.  He threatens to tell Fernando all the rest of it, too, if he has to, to get her back.  Jen is totally scrunch-nosed impactada over his nasty threats.

At the Zoo one and all have a terrific time.  We learn that DonFer is afraid of big animals like Elephants (You’re kidding, right?  Or did I possibly miss the subtle wink and nod on screen somehow?)  We get a mini-PSA on phobias.  She takes his hand.  He takes hers and squeezes.  Luz is quick to notice and breaks the “news" to the rest of the family.

Over Mango treats DonFer tells Ana this is the best time he’s had in quite a long while and, BTW, call me Fernando and nix the Don.  He smiles at her and gently wipes away a bit of the syrup on her lips.  He tells her sweetly how all of this and the change in his kids is all due to her.  They look into each other’s eyes as he moves in for The Kiss……

Comments:
Jardinera, thanks for the great recap. "Bruja Central" sure says it all.

I liked: Ana doing the cheers in the kitchen; comforting Fernando at the zoo when he was afraid of the elephants; Fernando turning out to be a good guy.

Will Fernando and Ana ever kiss?
"
Will Ana ever have to answer Fernando's question "who are you really?" (precipitated by Johnny's big mouth)

Isabela fainting is not a good sign with a pregnany test being mentioned in the avances.

But, hey, it will all work out in 160 (?????) ( just guessing) episodes, right?

Jarifa

Thanks Jardinera for another great recap! I am really enjoying the supportive relationships among the family members, and JS is incredible, very convincing in this role. Liked him in Fuego en la Sangre but it was more of a goofy galan stereotype...although, with the added attraction of lots of bathing, showering and waterfall scenes!
J in Oregon

Adriana Noel here:
Great job, Jardinera, as always!

"(nor screwing, either, from the looks of it)" and "Buja central" were among my favorites.

It looks like the story is moving along at a nice pace, maybe we won't have to wait 100+ episodes for the big reveal.

I'm going on Holiday this afternoon (road trip! yuhuuu), I won't be able to see the show for about a week, so I'll try my best to read the recaps and comment wherever I can get a wifi connection.
If I can't, though, a big thank you to all the recappers for giving me something exciting to read when I get back and see you all next week!

Jarifa: 160???????? I could happily stop at half that many like the good old days.
=======
J om Oregon: JS is definitely a smooth actor. How he did those Johnny scenes without cracking up I don't know--and still made it look like a regular drama!
==========
AdrianaNoel: enjoy yourself! We'll hold down the fort! Let us know if anything exciting and out of the ordinary happens to you!

Jardinera, I sure wish I had started watching these novelas in the good old days. From what I have seen in the last two years, less episodes would certainly be better.
: )

Jarifa

Thanks Jardinera, so Fernando and Ana are getting ready to declare their love just in time for Isabela to be pregnant. We certainly called that one though. So they'll bring in brother Diego back and then there will be flirting and jealousy all around for months on end.
Not to be a downer, but I understand that this TN will be 180+ episodes, so this will probably reeaallly drag out.

Thank you, Jardinera, for the excellent recap. You explained some parts I didn't understand: i.e., Johnny told Fer Ana wasn't what she appeared to be, and Fer questioned Ana about Johnny's comment. Surely the truth will come out soon!

I would like to see Fer relax enough to go to the zoo in a nice pair of jeans and a stylish tee shirt, instead of wearing a collared shirt and blazer. He looks uptight even on his day of relaxation at the zoo!

I like Nico. He embodies the most prominent traits of his two sons: a successful business man who does not muzzle his libido. He combines and/or balances responsibility and a zest for life well.

Cathyx: ITA the prevarication preggers prize goes to Bela The Not So All Bidnez Babe. Is this a possible appenicitis attack alert for La Jens?

======
Ecuador Bound: Interesting comparison of Nico to his sons! I wouldn't have thought this group of writers had delved that deeply into Nico's psyche, je-je. ; > ))

Dear Jardinera,

Your recap is a model of what novelas should be, especially comic ones -- short, crisp and consistently humorous, with an occasional belly laugh thrown in.
Also like the emojis in the title!

And JS is a model of how to act in this silliness, with more is less in mind. That said, I am still getting a kick out of the antics of this family, the badly behaved children (sorry, Ana!) and the brujas. Who knew that Mayrin could be such a great villainness? (She is better than in MPV, IMHO, and has a nicer wardrobe here!)

I love Silvia and Rene and hate to say it but down a notch would elevate the doings. They are such appealing actors and when they hit the right note, it's wonderful. A few of their scenes together have been great.

Dios nos ayuda -- 180? I am tired just thinking about it. I guess we are in for a relationship between pregnant Isabela and Fernando, which the kids will try to sabotage, and who knows what Diego and other prospective galans will for the story.

Jardinera. awesome "to give DonFer a pieced of his soggy grey matter."

"Back at Bruja Central"

"tight assed Ferenando gets upset"

"scrunch-nosed impactada"

“Ana isn’t what she seems.” You know, since this is a 8 o'clock show, and we get the Disney version of a gentleman's club, I tend to forget what Ana actually does for a living. Nothing wrong with how she wants to live her life but she shouldn't be shocked when Fernando doesn't understand the woman he loves takes her clothes off for men for money.

Briana - what's this piece of hunk in my eye

Nando - always happens when you aren't even looking

Isabela - a swoon is worth a thousand gifts

Fernando - easily distracted

Ana - soon, wagging your pony tail won't be enough

Juan - if I'm goin down, you're goin with me

Twins - guess dad won't like our career choice either, fashion design

Fanny - thanks you Nando for totaling my Fiat

Leon - and that son is why you don't fall for a girl with a rich daddy

Luz - don't get your hopes up hon

“(not that any of us in Viewerville cares a whit whether we know what or where …..)”

I cared so little that I did not even know he was going somewhere.

That cap of his is incredibly distracting. I feel that if I stare at it long enough I’ll go into trance.

“Ana takes a moment to correct Luz’s use of popular slang per Don Fernando.”

What is so funny is that “que padre” is officially sanctioned by The Parent even though this too was slang back in the 70s when it was common for the hippie type and beatniks to use this phrase. No worries Luz, wait about 20 year and “que chido” will also become a formal form of communication.

“…that he knows he sucks at Lacrosse and is not looking forward to practice.”

I throw myself at the mercy of this group. What the Pinky (and the Brain) is Lacrosse? I thought that Sebas was playing soccer. Lacrosse is defined as a similar game but sticks with nets were involved: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IidZRr4ttro Is this the game that Sebas is playing (or attempting to play)?

And if the team lost 9 to 0, 10 counting Sebas’ amazing goal) I would not be too upset at Sebas as the team has other issues (perhaps lack of practice?)

“…and for the chamber music that nobody stayed to listen to…”

And for those who are obsessive and need to know what music they were playing, enjoy!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOA-2hl1Vbc

“Mani got Bruno to kiss her and it was terrify!”

I saw that scene. Another commenter mentioned that that kiss did not do anything for him/her (sorry, I can’t remember who said that). Newsflash: From the looks of it, the kiss did not do anything for Bruno either! If anything it looked like he was kissing his sister. Of course, her, on the other hand, reminded me of Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-bsf2x-aeE).

“…the demoralized Johnny …”

Any chance you meant “demonized”?

“…unexpected pain in her gut which literally bowls her over …”

Pop quiz, Dr Salvador is in:

Option A (swipes hand and makes swishy noise): Gastritis
Option B (same visual/sound effect): Colitis
Option C: (ditto): Xenomorph
Option D: Appendicitis

Personally, I’ll vote for D.

“…before Don Fer sees the two of them prancing around in thigh high skimpy skirts.”

Cheerleading costume officially approved by the Lascurain patriarch, only slight modifications are necessary which can easily be done by the family’s expert twin tailors.:

http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/5e/32/3e/5e323e309430fb81903d25e916cf14f0.jpg

“(which ultimately leads to nose-rings, tattoos and defacing walls with spray paint, according to DonFer’s way of thinking)”

And baggy pants, and unintelligible speech, and (gasp!) Diet Coke addiction. Oh no! Mr Fer better start looking for rehab centers now!

“…ruined thousand peso suit …”

He did say “thousand pesos”. I am now wondering whether he bought the suit at the tianguis.

“Leon is bummed cuz, as he tells her, even if he worked an entire lifetime he could never afford to buy her a car like that.”

No Lion King! Don’t think like that! Life is to strive so that you can afford a car like that and then not buy because wasting that much money on a machine to get you from A to B is ridiculous. The Law of Attraction says that if you think you can’t then you can’t. This one iof you Leon:

End part 1 of 2

Part 2 of 2

Bela looked like she was going to blow a gasket when she found out that everyone had gone to the zoo. I expected to see something fly ff her and then steam come out. I am glad that the novella dispensed with any visual aids in this regards. Her fainting was not a good thing, coupled with the previews. Please, please Mr. Novella Writers, do not shove a pregnancy in our faces. At this time there is a certain magic in the story and this includes Bela’s fruitless attempts to nab the Big Fish. An unexpected pregnancy by the antagonist is just a cheap novella recipe to create conflict. I would prefer to see conflict in other ways as has been done up to now.

Ok, the scene with Mr Fer being afraid of the elephant was cute and cuter still when he held Ana’s hand and Luz almost did a somersault. But then I thought it was over done with Fer grabbing at Ana. It just lost its cuteness for me. But the Mango scene made up for it. It definitely looks like there is something there (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwZEcdBMLLU

180 episodes!? No thank you :-)

Maybe Diego shows up, Fernando boots Ana for being a stripper, Ana becomes Diego's muse and a famous Victoria's Secret model. That could burn up 30 episodes.

Jardinera, thank you SO much! Loved it and ESPECIALLY Bruja Central!!.

It's a happy show and I am enjoying and trying not to think too hard. :))

Fatima

Hi all! I have been "lurking" for a number of years and am finally attempting to post a comment. I love the humor in this show as well as the two leads. I have been trying to learn Spanish for well over a decade and am doing ok with it, for the most part understanding what's going on onscreen with closed captioning in Spanish. I think Fernando may have said that one button of his suit would be worth 1000 pesos?

Good one; I may rename Isabitch's apartment.

Just finally caught up with this episode and I now want to go to that zoo. It has such beautiful kitties.

Salvador: your rant was awesome, especially the nod to Alien! Pachebel's one hit wonder is one of my favorites.....here's the link to the hour long version. Enjoy!

Traveling Lady: " with more is less in mind" He is definitely the go-to for that little necessity. Pay heed, you monkeywriters!

==========
Tofie: " we get the Disney version of a gentleman's club". Well said! Your list is hilarious. Great way to start my morning, let alone the week. Je-Je.
=====

Fatima: Yeah, it's a happy show after the likes of LQLVMR. I am enjoying the ability to race through recaps for once and still have time to enjoy the rest of my day. These kind of shows are good for a breather.
============

Urban: Funny you should mention, but it made me long to go with the nietos to a zoo also. Since I and the nuera were working, my son and hubby took them for a surprise trip to the Miami Zoo--without me!!!! Bummer!

Jardinera,
awesome recap!!
loved your descriptions of Johnny:
to give DonFer a pieced of his soggy grey matter.
The sotted and sobbing Johnny
She’s in --hick--love with you!”

and of Fernando:
…unsuspecting, self-avowing pacifist Fernando
tight assed Ferenando

and the locations...
Bruja Central is brilliant!! I will have to steal that one as classic for this novela...
Bruja Central
vs Zero-boredome Central (Lasc mansion) vs full-boredom central (office)

She passes out on the couch. (what about internal combustion [from her facial expression])

Nico’s ‘zest for life’ (I like that! Perfect description… but I wonder if it came only late in life, he says Fer is a carbon copy of himself, and he did not pay much attention to his own kids… sees too much of himself in Fer, per conversations they have had… so he keeps trying to get Fer to ‘see the light’ earlier than he did.

Tofie, Brilliant “the Disney version of a gentleman's club” and then your list, as always, my favs: Ana, Twins, fanny and Leon.

When they said '1000 pesos' as the value of the suit, Fernando shouted 'That is only for one button on it!!' and this is when Ana decided to take care of the matter herself (just like she did with the pillow fight in Fer's room) and suggest that since Fer had the nice gesture to come home early for dinner, they should go somewhere together... he asked 'as in where?' and she suggested the zoo which is nearby, and it took Fer a few seconds to 'warm up' to the idea. but then when Ana ran to yell at the kids, Fanny and Leon enjoyed watching Fer's face as he watched Ana excited running to tell the kids.
and about JS... I too am totally impressed at his comedic talent and how he can keep a straight face through it... it does speak to him as a real-life great dad (unless this guy can REALLY fake it) ... and his scared face hugging Ana saying 'that elephant is gigantic!' was great. Luz's reaction when Ana took Fer's hand was great... i might agree that their hugging after that was a bit overkill.

Fatima,
It's a happy show and I am enjoying and trying not to think too hard. :))

that makes two of us... this is not the type of show you want to psychologically analyze characters down to the core... you take it for what it is... if it makes you laugh, great! if it makes you think about whether you would act the same or a different way in a given situation, fine. But lets not pick on the tiny stuff... it is meant to be taken light-hearted...
and I for one am enjoying the 'chaos' every night as something that definitely takes my mind off reality and lets me witness how Ana works like Mary Poppins, putting out fires and keeping the connection between family members in her own creative ways. And if we get a bit of romance, some swooning, sighing and eye-candy with the men... that is wonderful!

Jardinera, did you mean terrific or terrified? i am not sure... but mid way with 'terrify' made me laugh.

btw, did I say I LOOOOOOOVED your title?

Loved the last line Fer told Ana before getting close for the final kiss...
'for the first time in a long time i am ok (as in content)... I have you... i have my 7 angels... what else can I ask for?'

HEre's what i am afraid of... we will get a very happy episode tomorrow and then all heck will break loose if BellaSkank is indeed preggers... once she uses that to 'compromise' Fernando and Diego (less complicated alternative... you know, single, available... well lets not talk about willing to commit) makes his appearance and begins to 'go after' Ana, then Fernando and Ana will be dying for each other but will have too much pulling at them in different directions... whether Ana's other life is revealed will probably wait until the chaos gets a bit more complex... and then Fernando will not be able to totally blame Ana since he has problems of his own that separate them... things will REALLY get complicated for the next I would guess 60 or so eps...

Ecuador bound... i agree that Fernando could have dressed a bit more casual to the zoo... like maybe not a tee but at least just a polo loose over slacks... instead of that heavy hot corduroy jacket over long sleeves.

Seeing Fernando in his suit and tie has made me realize how mich I miss seeing men in suits and ties these days. In general dress is just so informal and in many cases not flattering. His tieless look at the zoo was also very fine with the collared shirt and jacket.

Jarifa

Fernando probably doesn't have more casual clothing.

Amen, Jarifa!

Too many people these days think of anything more formal than jeans as punishing. I was cringing a couple of months ago when I dined in a "traditional" Italian restaurant to see people walk in in shorts and shirts that have seen better days. This is a place with carpets, chandeliers, paintings, live music, and waiters in black tie! Have some respect!

The list is late because I spent most of my computer time this weekend reading comments and commenting on Robo and DQTQ2.

That's OK, Nanette; I didn't come up with a weekend topic because I figured that Robo's finale would keep us busy. Good lists.

What I need to do is figure out how to cut down the number of screen grabs I do. Tonight's article has 62 of them.

This comment has been removed by the author.

Nanette,
great list! i am sure some of the scenes we will always remember (until we see something that tops that... not sure) are Ana's [chocolate] cake org)*)#... and Ana's exhuberant reaction about the whole clan going to the zoo...

(that so sweet that as soon as Ana and Fer agreed to go to the zoo and Fer asked Leon 'what do you think?' Leon put a sad face and rubbed his pockets to 'feel' what he knew (he has no $)... only to have Fer notice it and say 'don't worry, man! I treat(it's on me!)!' and Leon and Fanny smiled at each other. that was a very cute moment.

Thanks for the recap! I've been so busy and angst ridden with LQLVMR that I haven't been able to comment.

So this is my only TN going forward now. La Malquerida(?)with the whole step father lusting after daughter disgusts me so skipping. And the one with the ugly race car driver doesn't look believable or interesting. Not touching La Gata with a ten foot pole (unless really desperate, I do like Daniel Arenas' hair).

Really enjoying this show but not sure there is enough for 160 episodes. Can see this going stupid quick. But I do like the two leads very much. Much chemistry and I like all of the kids which is surprising.

Thanks Urban. 62 screenshots!!! Can't wait, but what a lot of work for you. Are you going to use a special voice for this TN or just do straight recapping?

Marta: Thanks. I noticed that scene, but didn't know what exactly was going on. That definitely should be part of the highpoints list.

Sorry to be posting so late.

Jardinera, a wonderful recap. Full of spark and sparkle. "Johnny gets really ticked off the more he thinks about it and races over to the ritzy side of town to give DonFer a pieced of his soggy grey matter" was one of my many favorites.

A bit upset with Isa's fainting as well. But, we have to have filler with so many episodes, right?

Fer's curiosity is aroused, but I'm sure the truth will not yet be reavealed.

So happy you are recapping again Jardinera. Your special insight and great humor add to the mix consistently.

Diana

Jardinera: thank you for the great recap.

I wasn't very happy seeing the previews. I hate the pregnancy plot point, whether it's a fake one, or a one night stand one. So CLICHE. However, I realized that we just started this TN, so it does no good to be so frustrated so early. I'm just going to enjoy the ride and remind myself, it will all work out in the end.

Nanette

MartaI: Thanks again for all clarifications as once more into the breech I had poor audio and no CC's!
=====

Nanette: Fanny as a spitfire is my highpoint, definitely!!
==============

Diana: Yep. Isabel doing the diva dive on the divan will no doubt give us the formulaic filler and perhaps the means of brotherly rivalry (as somebody offered) for Ana.

Sorry in advance to anybody in favor of the March/December romance between Jens and Nico. It's a no-go no-show for me right from the start!!

I don't like Nic and Jennifer together. If they are buddies and he helps her fine, but romantically involved, put me in the naw column.

If Isabela is pregnant, yawn. They could make Isabela more appealing to the kids or perhaps one or two of them and not so desperate so she could give Ana a real challenge, especially when it is discovered she works as a stripper in a nudie bar.

I know I'm in the minority with the Nico/Jen hookup, so I used the HPLP Lister card and added to HPs. :) I commented before that I don't expect the relationship to last and I'm fine with that. I'm enjoying them together for however long it lasts.

I wondered if the writers were planning on Jen ending up with Johnny. Ewww!!
