TELEMUNDO Y MÁS -- Reina de Corazones: week of August 18, 2014 - PAGE TWO

Hola Reina fanáticos: It seems clear to me we are going to come very close or exceed the 200 comment mark. I am going to be on the road for a few hours today so I will not be able monitor that closely. So I am doing a page two now and posting Sara's excellent recap of a really interesting episode. A mystery solved - who killed the 13 and many questions.

VIERNES PARTE 1
Reina wants to start a new life. Esmeeth will get everything ready for her. Navier interrupts the conversation, but Reina just says she's thanking Esmeeth. Navier notes with irony that Esmeeth is always there at the right moment and her boss must be very proud. He and Reina leave and Rocky comes in. He asks if she's going to say anything to Bolivar. She tells him no and that if he does it will cost him his job.

Laz arrives home. Miriam in the shower. A text from Putz arrives. Laz's cerebral hamsters begin treadmilling.

Estefy admits to being the one that hired the thugs to beat up Putz. No one is going to hurt Greata! Victor overhears and Estefy tells him that Putz was blackmailing Susana and threatening to tell Greata about her real mom. Estefy wanted Putz to understand that you don't mess with her. Victor approves and says he would have done the same...well, he would have done something a little different. He is unable to elaborate since his phone rings and interrupts. It’s Bolivar. We don’t know what he said, but Vic looks serious.

Miriam is out of the shower and she’s not happy with nosy Laz. She tells him Damian is a friend from rehb. Laz is no dummy. He begs her not to get involved with Putzy Trash like the Putz. Miriam concludes that Laz wants to leave her and go off with rich Greata. He can get rich and she can’t. Greata can’t even make love to him! Why Greata and not Miriam? For LOVE, Laz responds.

Izzy at the bridal shop. Connie tells him she’s a modern woman and willing to have a “free” relation with him. He agrees and asks her not to tell anyone about their “free” relationship.

Navier takes Reina to his apartment. Reina asks why they are there. He explains that he called Vic and told him they were giving their statements to Esmeeth. Reina doesn’t like when Navier reports things to Vic as if he were his trusted man. Navier clarifies that he is REINA’s hombre and she is his woman. Doesn’t she think they deserve to be away from all the crazy for just a moment. He’s not afraid of bullets. He’s only afraid of not being able to make love to her forever. Love on a short sofa. Shirtles Navier (drink.)

Laz looks for work. Miriam thinks Laz said he loved Greata just to annoy her. Laz is actually surprised by his feelings, too. Miriam makes the lame “she can’t make love to you” argument. Laz says a woman is more than just a body to him and Miriam doesn’t believe him. She knows he’s an ardent (fogoso) and passionate man. He pushes her away and tells her that thanks to her and the Putz’s shenanigans, he and Greata are kaput.

Greata cries alone. Susana comes in and asks what’s wrong. Greata says she can’t even dry her own tears. Susana asks if she’s crying for Laz. Susana explains that Laz had nothing to do with the beating of the Putz and that Laz is a good guy. Greata doesn’t believe it. No one who gets involved with her has honorable intentions. Who is going to love a paraplegic like her? Susana says everyone deserves a “gran amor”, even Greata.

Big O lights a pipe. Vic enters and asks if he’s responsible for Reina’s accident. Big O asks if Reina is dead. When he hears that she’s not, then he says it wasn’t him. He never fails. He asks Vic to leave him in peace with his pipe and his spirits. Vic tells him that if Big O touches Reina, he will be the one responsible for anything that happens. Big O thinks Leonard Nimoy’s death has made Victor a little snippy and rude. Victor tells his father that Leonard Nimoy told him that Big O had two of the diamonds. Big O laughs and declares that Vic has the third. Estefy blows in and Big O tells them “let’s see which of us the the cleverest and ends up with all four and saves themselves from the curse.”

VIERNES PARTE 2
Posed snuggling on a short couch. She tells him everything she’s doing is because she loves him. He’ll be with her as long as she needs him. Her phone alerts her to a text message: “Death was near, but I had nothing to do with the accident. I’m still waiting to make your life so miserable that you can’t stand it and you kill yourself, Reina ortiz [sic].”

No theme song or opening credits tonight. QTH?

Navier asks who the message is from and doesn’t buy her story about it being from the shop. She finally admits it’s from the killer and it’s NOT Octavio de Rosas. Navier reads the message. According to it Octavio was not responsible for the accident, but she has the news that she received when she was in captivity (en cautiverio). It can’t be anyone else. Reina agrees. It can’t be. Big O is the one who wants to kill her. (Could someone clarify this convo for me? Again, I got the words, but not what they were really saying.) Navier is cara de deep thought. Reina asks what he thinks. He says it doesn’t matter all that matters is what he feels for her. Smooches. All that matters to her is being with him. They will go back to the mansion later and resume the farce, but for now she wants him in front of her nekkid and despojado (just another word for nekkid.) Smooches. Love on a short couch.

Later they return home. Navier goes to the kitchen for coffee. Vic “welcomes” her home. She asks if he knows who’s trying to kill her. No, he doesn’t know, but (and here he grabs her throat) he will be the one wanting to kill her if she keeps treating him with such disdain (desprecio).

Juanjo informs Laz about Estefy’s involvement with Putz’s beatdown. Juanjo comments that Estefy is pretty savage (brava). At first he thought is was Susana’s doing since she’s bien brava as well, but no, it was Estefy. Laz warns Juanjo that they have to watch their step with Putz. He explains that Miriam and Putz are in cahoots and that the Putz is capable of anything. Split conversation….
Putz: I want Laz away from Greata.

Miriam: If you keep giving me what I want, I assure you they will never be together.

Laz: We’ll never be together and I miss her.

Juanjo: She misses you, too! She’s even calling her new nurse Lazaro! Say what you will, but that girl is really in love with you.

Miriam: The idiot is saying he’s in love with her!

Putz: Puh-leeze. Who would fall in love with a paralytic?

Laz: I’ve fallen in love like never before and to be honest, it doesn’t matter to me that she’s in that chair. I was sure I could help her; that I could save her.

Putz: Greata is my only salvation. I have to marry her no matter what. And I have some ideas.

Juanjo: I have some ideas. We definitely have to do something.

VIERNES PARTE 3
Navier enters the kitchen. So does Estefy. Estefy gloms onto him. He worries about Vic seeing them. Estefy couldn’t care less. She was worried about him! He tells her Big O was responsible and confessed to it. Estefy says the man has no limits. Vic comes upon the cozy scene. Estefy tells him that Navier is quite friendly and so able a chofer. Estefy is jealous of Reina. Vic praises Navier for once again saving Reina’s life. On cue, Reina enters. Vic has a great idea. Susana is out, Greata doesn’t want to come down…why don’t the four of them have dinner together? Navier demurs saying it’s not his place. Vic disagrees. Navier is almost like family!

Awkward dinner. With both brothers presiding at each end of the table. Victor brings up Reina’s therapy. He asks Navier if he’s ever been analyzed. Navier says it’s not his style, nor in his budget (presupuesto). Estefy thinks it would be helpful. She can’t imagine that losing 8 years of one’s life is easy. Reina agrees that it’s not. She doesn’t remember what she did, good or bad. Vic proposes a toast: to Reina, the future and their hero: Javier Bolivar. Again, Javier plays the humble servant and says Victor is the true hero for having made his marriage a success for so many years. Javier can’t seem to find relationship success.

Esmeeth meets with the Big O. She wants to tell him face to face that she’ll never tell him who her son is. It doesn’t matter to Big O. He’s got some information: Mexico, the church, a father Mario. Esmeeth reminds him she can make him disappear with just one call. Big O knows she won’t do it because she’s always been so ethical. Unfortunately, he’s not so ethical. He produces a chip. It’s the chip he removed from agent Rocky Balboa. If she doesn’t tell him in 24 hours where his son is, Rocky Balboa will die.
Esmeeth says she can have him arrested for blackmail and extorsion and Big O asks if she has any proof. She says she can take him and make him talk. He knew that so he didn’t let his men tell him where Rocky was. He’s not very resistant to heat and he could say anything. Esmeeth says he’s the worst thing that ever happened to her. Big O says that she’s the best thing that ever happened to him and the only thing he wants is to know his son who is the fruit of the love they shared.

Juanjo brings Susana a bottle of tequila.

Vic brings Putz a syringe of toxins. Putz needs to know that no one messes with Victor’s daughter (I’m with Vivi on this one. The Navier/Camila thing is kind of squicky.)

Big O is back from his date with Esmeeth and Reina is waiting. She wants to know why he wants to kill her. He will tell her why he hates her so much!! (But not yet.)

Esmeeth yells into the phone. She wants to be informed of everything, no matter how insignificant. Navier asks why she needed him so urgently. She tells him that Big O has Rocky. There’s no way to find Rocky because they’ve removed his chip. Big O has his own logistics team and Esmeeth doesn’t know if 24 hours is enough time for her to locate Rocky. She doesn’t want to risk losing Rocky, but she is not going to tell Big O where her son is. Navier asks what she’s waiting for. Why don’t you tell him I’m your son, mom?

VIERNES PARTE 5
Putz continues to struggle to breathe. Like a good villain, Vic monologues. He wished he had more time to plan Putz’s death in detail. He had that pleasure with the other 13. Now the Putz is doing to writhe in pain. Maybe that way he’ll regret what he did to Camila and to Greata, the only daughter that Vic has left. He leaves the nurse’s call button, but Damian is paralyzed. Victor takes a long look at him. He wants his face to be the last thing the Putz sees before he heads to hell. Laz does not notice Vic at the water cooler as he enters the Putz’s room. He sees the Putz in distress and calls for a doctor.

Navier tells Esmeeth they need to make a decision. Esmeeth doesn’t want to go with Navier’s plan. There are other ways to recover Rocky. Navier reminds her his plan is the fastest. He can lie. He can pretend she is his mom; that she cared for him; that is was just them against the world; that she never missed a birthday or school year. Esmeeth can lie too. She still refuses. Navier wants to know why. Is it because it was his idea, or is there something else? She says she gives the orders. Navier thinks she acts more like a mom than a boss.

Juanjo and Susana salsa. She confesses she wanted to be a classical ballerina, she had a chance to study abroad when she was 18, but then she met Victor and her life changed. Laz calls and informs Juanjo of the death of the Putz. Juanjo informs Susana.

Cristian asks Laz to come with him.

Estefy watches over Greata. Victor arrives and tells her that the Putz is dead (sung to the tune of “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead.”) He will never hurt their daughter again. Estefy asks if he suffered. Vic assures her he suffered a lot. This brings a smile to Estefy’s face (and I I can’t help but smile whenever these two have scenes together. Snap, crackle and pop indeed!) Vic thinks they would have made a great pair, but Estefy says that’s a thing of the past. For now it’s best to just talk about the only pure thing they have: Greata.

Navier enters the kitchen where Asuncion is having tea. She asks how he knew she was Reina’s mom. He won’t tell her, but he won’t reveal the truth to Reina either. He thinks that is for Asuncion to tell. She tells him how she did tell Reina the day before the accident and that Reina forgot. Again on cue, Reina enters. She needs to tell Navier something important. She tells him about Big O overhearing her conversation with Estefy. Navier says he’ll take care of the Big O (erm....the human one.) He gives her a quick hug and goes to leave, but he turns and asks what else she was going to say. She say he reads her thoughts (as good Dragons will do.) He can see everything in her face. He knows her, smells her (ISBIS) and sees her as if she were nude in front of him.

Connie arrives at the police station. Laz called her. What’s going on? Cristian informs her that Laz is accused of Putzicide.

Susana comes to Greata’s room and tells Estefy that Putz is dead. Estefy acts surprised. Susana asks if Estefy feels gulty. Estefy says nope. He didn’t die from the beating. Someone gave him the death he deserved and it wasn’t her.

The Big O creeps into Navier’s room. He has a gun, but Navier is just as fast. He has a gun, too. “What do you have that makes everyone fall in love with you, Javier Bolivar?” (Um, smoking hot bod, glorious hair? Seriously, O. Have you looked in mirror?) “Maybe it’s your blood, Sr. De Rosas…because I’m your son.!”

I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!

Comments:
I love PUTZICIDE, Novelera.
I'm not sure if Vic intended to frame Laz but except for the fact that what he injected in the Putz's IV was blue, the symptoms didn't seem like the heart attack version of the flu virus. If it was some other drug that Laz could have gotten his hands on as a nurse, then it would be more likely that he was going for a two-fer in getting guys he didn't like away from Greta. I'll amend what I wrote in my recap:
Susana and Juanjo are amateurs, Stefi is a professional and Victor is a psychopath.

I loved the the little couches, Penny! I was wondering why they couldn't make it to his bed to have sex. First the shower and now the small couch - at least they are getting to do it horizontally!

But wasn't Reina supposed to be crazy with worry about Clara being at the house? That was why she was rushing home and then she spends hours at CIA headquarters and hours shagging Navier without a thought for poor Clara who was at the mercy of Big O and Vic.

Thanks for the page, Jean!

Last night was the perfect example of why the Telemundo previews can be so misleading and why we don't talk about them. On Wed. night, the previews showed Navier and Reina doing it on the couch and then the shot of Big O's body entering a room with a gun from the end of the capitulo, leading viewers to believe that there was coitus interruptus by someone with a gun. Not so.

Sara – Thank you for the recap and snark!
”Laz's cerebral hamsters begin treadmilling.” - LOL
”Navier is cara de deep thought.” - this one really made me LOL

I noticed no “entrada”, too. This is not the first time they’ve skipped it.

I wish Victor would take out Miriam, nice and slow like Damian's. InjectoDeath3000™ is too fast for the likes of her. We can always hope …. ~sigh~

When Susana told Greata --- ‘everyone deserves a great love story’, I could swear that line came from a movie I’ve seen or a book I’ve read, but which one?!

I’m waiting for mention of short couches in Anita’s next installment of Wisdom of the Dragon.

If Big O had ever watched ADCLG, he’d already know that Esmeeth is Navier’s mom.

Susana & Juanjo looked each other in the eye while taking that first drink! That should guarantee them at least 7 episodes of good sex.

With all the bonking going on between Navier/Reina and Izzy/Connie, someone is bound to come up pregnant, no? Isn’t that in the Telenovela Rules?

…. estoy en otro dimension…

"But wasn't Reina supposed to be crazy with worry about Clara being at the house?"
Jean - Yes. LOL
Apparently the Hotness of the Dragon™ has affected Reina's thinking.

Not to be too legalistic and logical here but Big O tells Reina that his hatred for her is because she duped him and got the two red diamonds, which are in a safe deposit box in Reina's name. Only Reina can get access to the box. It appears that Big O is trying to either kill Reina or drive her crazy and make her commit suicide. If he succeeds, custody of the safe deposit box will go to Victor, Reina's husband. Presumably Big O wants the diamonds back and doesn't want Victor to get them. Big O could easily blackmail Reina by threatening to harm Clara or Navier unless she gave the diamonds back to him. So why doesn't he do that?

Jean--Before I get down to the REAL business of Reina, could you put a page break in Sara's front page, maybe after Part I? Thanks.

Sara, this is absolutely stellar! The Guy with the Dragon Tattoo brings out the best in you.

Just a couple of LOL favorites:

"They did play mother and son on a Televisa TN. It could work."

"“What do you have that makes everyone fall in love with you, Javier Bolivar?” (Um, smoking hot bod, glorious hair? Seriously, O. Have you looked in mirror?)"

Thank you for this weekend gift, amiga!

Check my logic here: we've seen the Big O fondling the red diamonds so that's proof he's really just messing with Reina's head, right? Those diamonds have only been recently put in the safe deposit box, right?

Dear Jean

I'll send you an email about the page break and you can take care of it when you get home.

Love,
NovelaMaven

P.S. "Putzicide" es mío, MÍO, ¿entiendes? bwahahahaha!

Sara,

Was he fondling the diamonds in a flashback or in real time? I can't remember. Either way, big O is clearly messing with Reina's head.

I can't remember either.

I want to thank the folks that commented last night. I kind of used some of your material in the recap. ;)

Sara,

I think it's great when you use what people have said in the comments and in other recaps. (I was needling Jean because she attributed putzicide to my buddy Novelera not once, but TWICE! Admittedly not my best work, but still, a Maven's got to eat, right?)

Actually it is a wonderful sign that we're having a conversation here and not just shouting into cyberspace. I love that we've got little bits and pieces of so many of us in any given recap.

Doris:

"But wasn't Reina supposed to be crazy with worry about Clara being at the house?"

Jean - Yes. LOL
Apparently the Hotness of the Dragon™ has affected Reina's thinking.

Yes, possibly. Or maybe Dragon Time is unlike Human Time. (You'll have to think about that one: it's very deep.)

Terrific recap, Sara! I loved your comments (e.g., "Laz's cerebral hamsters begin treadmilling," "They did play mother and son on a Televisa TN," "Seriously, O. Have you looked in mirror?" and, of course, "Putzicide.") I also appreciate your including some Spanish.

I was relieved when you asked whether someone could clarify the convo for you, since it mystified me as well.

Jean, I love your calling attention to the illogical happenings, such as Reina's supposedly fearing for Clara's safety and yet not rushing home to be with her. I admire your bravery in watching this TN without wearing a beanie. I know I couldn't do it.

Sara--I read your recap twice. Once on Reina's page one and then on page two. It was just as good the second time.

About Big O fondling the two red diamonds. It was in his Flashback scene, so we *don't* know when that was. We know he lies about a lot of things, so maybe this is one of them.

Thinking back, it's possible that Big O has *control* over the two red diamonds we saw in the flashback. He wants Stefi to rob the one coming up at auction and with Vic possessing the other one, both diamonds are physically closer to him, he'll be able to get his hands on them more easily.

Still, I thought the same as you did--that Big O put the diamonds in a box in Reina's name recently to mess with her head.

In real life, to get a safety deposit box, Reina would have had to fill out papers and sign documents and countersign documents and be given a KEY to be used in conjunction with the bank's rep. If all this is true, it had to have happened before Reina lost her memory.

NM--Thank you for giving us Putzicide. Lastima we probably won't be using it anymore.

Thanks for clarifying the diamond fondling, Anita

Jean, could you put in a page break please?

Sara--Loved, "Like a good villain, Vic monologues."

Normally this would clarify something kept hidden from us, but in this case, we watchers already know. What good writers we have for this TN, no?

Cathyx

Jean is aware of the jump break issue and will take care of it later today. We Telemundies feel your pain -- we know what it's like to be pushed down (and sometimes off) the page.

Um. I'm seeing a page break on chrome. I'll go see what firefox is showing, I see the blue "read more" link and have seen it since early this morning when it first went up....

I'm not sure what a page break is, but the Page Two with Sara's recap looks normal on my computer screen with Firefox browser.

"Putzicide" es mío,
NovelaMaven - Yes and it is genius. Might have to copyright it -- Putzicide©

Doris--A page break, when you are writing/editing material to be posted, shortens what shows on the front page. The "Read More" is where the page break appears in the editing mode.

It's done as a courtesy to all the other telenovelas, so, as NM says, they (and we) don't get pushed off the front page so soon. There is a finite amount of room on the front page. When we finally reach the bottom of the page (usually in a week or more), the sidebar gives us the access to previous episodes.

I meant to say that I don't think we'll be retiring "putzicide" © any time soon. We still have several episodes of Laz declaring he's not guilty of putzicide©, everyone talking about the putzicide© and the ongoing investigation of the puzicide©.

NovelaMaven-I agree that this is so much fun because we really are ALL contributors.

"-A page break, when you are writing/editing material to be posted, shortens what shows on the front page."
Aaaaah, thanks! Now I understand and agree that they are nice to have.

Excellent, Sara! So deliciously snarky.

Well, Vic confirmed what we already strongly suspected-- he killed the 13. And then he does us the favor of killing the Putz. Yay! But poor Laz. Dude has no luck.

As for Big O, I think 90% of what comes out of his mouth, so we can't ever be sure with him. He'd like us (Reina) to believe that she wound him up so much, and he was so hot to get into her pants, that he gave her two rare and extremely valuable red diamonds? Por favor! No way. No one is THAT hard up!

90% of what comes out of his mouth is a lie.

One of my favorite ensemble moments in this episode was when Estefi admits she hired the leg-breakers to work over the putz and explains why, and then Victor rewards her with a radiant smile and tells her she did very well. Estefi smiles back, basking in his approval.

Meanwhile Juanjo (our Joe Shmo, our everyman -- the proxy for the viewer, perhaps) looks shocked.

Susana is not particularly nonplussed by the conversation.

Then Victor adds that he would not have done things exactly as Estefi did...(the implication is clear that he would have gone much further).

Hearing this, Juanjo again looks aghast.

It's such a well-written, directed and acted scene. Once again, we are reminded that these people know what they're doing.

Wow, Sara, what a terrific recap. I loved the multiple "love on a short sofa" references. I wondered the same thing. Hello? Bedroom? I also liked "like a good villain, Vic monologues". And especially: when Navier says he'll take care of Big O...erm, the human one. I've been reading about our distasteful villain being called Big O, and cringing a bit at the juxtaposition of the two.

NovelaMaven, on my BEST DAY I could not have come up with putzicide, so you deserve to not only eat, but have a dinner at a fine restaurant for that one.

"...our Joe Shmo, our everyman..."
NM - OMG you've given me a blast from the past. I grew up hearing that term "Joe Schmo" from my parents, especially my father. Have not heard it in I-don't-know-how-many-decades! LOL

"What do you have that makes everyone fall in love with you, Javier Bolivar?” (Um, smoking hot bod, glorious hair? Seriously, O. Have you looked in mirror?) "

Sara, I have reread your recap tonight and realized I missed this one the first time around. LOL!!!

I also liked ---- "Victor arrives and tells her that the Putz is dead (sung to the tune of “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead.”) "

Ding dong the putz is dead! Which old putz? The wicked putz! Ding dong the wicked putz is dead!

(I don't know how to get musical notes.)

Sara -

Alt 13 = ♪
Alt 14 = ♫

I'm on a laptop. Alt 13 doesn't do anything :-(

Sara wrote in her fabulous recap:

Her phone alerts her to a text message: “Death was near, but I had nothing to do with the accident. I’m still waiting to make your life so miserable that you can’t stand it and you kill yourself, Reina ortiz [sic]...”

This is a little confusing in particular the part about the news that Reina got when she was in captivity.

There are two incidents - the Clara drowning incident, which featured that news broadcast and the accident with the car, which had the billboard.

Big O says that he isn't responsible for the accident. He does lie a lot but this might technically be true. I think that the actual damage to the car was done by Delfina. If it had been successful, he might have taken credit for it but since it wasn't, he says that he didn't do that.

He clearly seems to have masterminded the Clara drowning incident with Delfina's help. The news broadcast links Big O to Reina's captivity in the "deposito de atauds."

It seems like Navier was mixing the two up by including the news broadcast in the text about the accident. I can't go back and watch that part of Friday's episode right now.

Sara and Jean--I'm trying to wrap my head around this, too.

It's just as confusing because the two tv broadcasts were identical. The one Reina saw in the coffin storage where she was being sequestered featured the same guy and the same message Reina saw on her bedroom tv. This latter time, she did look out the window and saw Clara's body floating in the pool.

It *had* to have been the same person who set it up--to be able to broadcast into the coffin storage place AND inside the house.

So, I go along with Reina and Navier. It's someone who hates her enough to want her dead, but wants her to commit suicide, rather than an out-and-out murder that could be traced. It has to be someone who has access to the house. That points the finger at Big O and OBD.

Yes, Big O told Victor he didn't have anything to do with the car accident, because he would not have failed. I looked over the recap and Big O has not admitted to Victor that he's actually made any attempts on Reina's life.

But, O arrived before the sequestration event and had plenty of time to set it up with Carmen....didn't she recognize him from earlier years...or maybe he had a stand-in OR OBD.

He had some kind of arrangement with Carmen, or the message delivered under the door for OBD after Carmen died, wouldn't have been so explicit about picking up where her mother left off. He says he didn't kill her, but he could still have been responsible.

Who knows, Big O lies so much.

P.S. I can't quit anytime, I can't quit anytime.

Does anyone have information on the timeframe that "Special" father of Reina and Carmen were married?

OBD says Reina stole her father's love, her man, everything.

OBD and Reina seem to be about the same age (going by looks). We know they are step-sisters, and that Reina is Asuncion's child.

From the way she talks, OBD was already around when Reina came into their lives. Carmen talked about her marriage in very unfavorable terms (was it infidelity?).

Since OBD is now probably going to be a more important player, being allied with Big O, I'd love to know why Asuncion gave Reina up to her "Special" father and then disappeared from their lives.

You'd think that if Carmen really knew that Asuncion was Reina's mother, she would have thrown that up in her face in the last few weeks before her death, when they had some run-ins.

Whew. I think I'm overthinking again. Time for a new wash 'n wear beanie. This one gets dirty much too quickly.

"Big O says that he isn't responsible for the accident. He does lie a lot but this might technically be true. I think that the actual damage to the car was done by Delfina. If it had been successful, he might have taken credit for it but since it wasn't, he says that he didn't do that.

Perhaps that's why he recruited Carmen and OBD--plausible deniability.

And to throw in more confusion Big O could have been orchestrating things long before he actually arrived on-screen.

I don't know whether to be impressed at the evidence that the writers know what they are doing/where they are going or whether I should be very, very afraid of the mind games that may be in the works. They are messing with Reina. Why not Viewerville?

Actually, I take that back. I am giddy with anticipation.

Is it Monday?

Anita,

"Does anyone have information on the timeframe that "Special" father of Reina and Carmen were married?"

This is the timeframe that is implicit:

Asunción, Reina's bio mom, left Special Dad and Reina when the child was under five, probably two or three. I say this because Reina doesn't seem to remember her real mom and because there can't be THAT much age difference between Reina and Delfina.

Special Dad soon hooked up with or married Carmen, who gave birth to Reina's HALF-SISTER (same dad, different mom) OBD (o-bla-di, o-bla-da). Let's say the half-sisters were three years apart -- that means Reina, the elder sister, graduates from high school while OBD is still a sophomore, and Carmen pushes Reina to go out and earn a living.

What about Special Daddy? Presumably he lived long enough to make an impression on all three women: Reina idolized him; OBD was jealous of the attention he paid to Reina; and Carmen resented him and accused him of infidelity (but we really can't believe anything Carmen said, can we?)

I'm guessing that Daddy lived to see the girls enter adolescence.

"You'd think that if Carmen really knew that Asuncion was Reina's mother, she would have thrown that up in her face in the last few weeks before her death, when they had some run-ins."

You'd think. So there are more secrets to be revealed -- about the special Señor Ortíz, about Asunción, and perhaps about Carmen too.

Sara,

I got this site from Carlos when I was trying to figure out how to do musical notes on a Mac (there ARE no keyboard shortcuts for musical notes on a Mac!):

http://copypastecharacter.com/

You just click on the character you want and then paste it onto your document.

♫♫ Ding Dong the Putz is dead!♪♪

Try not to get carried away, okay?

To all,

I promise not to mention the provenance of PUTZICIDE© again. Apparently I have been enough of an Asshat on the matter. If however, anyone wishes to discuss the matter further, I will be sipping from my flask at the Crackpot Theorists'™ table. (If you are interested in how the Crackpot Theorists™ came into being, you are certainly welcome to ask the FOUNDING MEMBER,that is, MOI. oops -- I did it again.)

[snort -- I can stop any friggin' time I want.]

You're hilarious, NovelaMaven!

Thanks for the info about special characters. I'll stop by and play a little more when I'm not commenting from phone.

Is "special" dad dead? Or is that just an assumption on everyone's part (the show and Viewerville)? Could we see him play a role in all this?

Sara - I don't think we've been informed, one way or the other, as to whether Special Dad is alive or dead. It is assumed he is dead, but ass-u-me is verboten, with this story. For all we know, he could have been Leonard Nimoy, but highly unlikely.

They way the writers are going through characters, someone else will have to get bumped off if they're going to bring Reina's Special Dad on camera. I wonder who will fill the hole left by the Putz. Oh, wait! We still have Andre's wife to make an appearance, and claim his part of the inheritance, right?

NM et al. gracias for unmuddying things. If they are Half-Sisters, then it is easier to understand the odio that OBD has for Reina and to construct a time line, than if they were Step-Sisters (Don't ask, I really don't know.)

We don't actually know if Senor Special is dead. "We haven't seen a body." (See Crackpot Theorists™ By-Laws). If he isn't, it would have taken a serious threat for him to leave Reina behind.

Doris, I love the idea that Old Leonard might have been Special Dad. (Are you already a member of the CT?)

NM-How does one become a member in good standing. Are we required to think up a good crackpot theory, or is believing in one good enough? Maybe I could have Junior Status? You, know, work my way up to 32d Degree Crackpot?

Ay vey! How is Andre again? Clearly I'm too slow for this show.

Who not how.

Andres is Stefi's stepson, the one Reina met with in Paris with her red baret on.

Anita,

Anyone can join or leave the Crackpot Theorist™ group at will. We believe that inside every rational person, there is a Crackpot Theorist longing to emerge.

Sara,

Andrés was Estefi's stepson, that is to say, the son of her late husband, Artemio Hidalgo. You may remember him as the icky partner of Miriam or as the man in the grey cap in the Parisian café where Reina was showing off her red beret.

I'm guessing that Jessica Mas (last seen as Monica Renteria on Robo) may show up as the widow of Andres -- not a spoiler, just a hunch!)

I'm also guessing that OBD may not be long for this world. She knows too much about Big O's business; besides, nobody likes her.

Doris wrote: The way the writers are going through characters, someone else will have to get bumped off if they're going to bring Reina's Special Dad on camera.

In Corazon Valiente, a novela created by the same person, Marcela Citterio, as RdeC, characters were bumped off with tremendous frequency, so much so that the Wikipedia entry, I believe, for the show had a list of them. There were at least three police persons investigating the various crimes, all of whom were corrupt...

I'm sure Special Dad will show up at some point. Asuncion leaving him and Reina is on my list of mysteries.

I finally saw the episode when Smith tells Navier he's a De Rosas. Yes, it was a flashback where we saw O with the two diamonds, reading about the curse. It was just after Stefi tells him she's not going to steal the diamond for him but for herself.

This is my theory about why he wants Stefi to steal the diamond, and why he would have given the other two to Reina-- he believes in the curse and he thinks Stefi and Reina are immune. This is a guy who likes to outsource everything, without risking himself. He does that with murder, and also with the red diamonds. He wants the diamonds to be kept safe with the queens/goddesses, until he can bring all four together and break the curse. Then he'll take control of them.

Doh! Now I remember! Thanks everyone! I'm sort of an out of sight, out of mind kind of TN watcher.

Wait a minute. If a queen is immune and Reina supposedly has two, why all the accidents and bad juju? Or is it the combo of the four being together AND being owned by a queen that offers protection?

Excellent theory, Vivi, on why O is keeping the red diamonds with the Reinas. I like it.

Sara- I had thought about what horrible luck Reina has, but perhaps it's just death that's the curse. If you think about it, Reina has amazing luck to still be alive after all these attempts on her life.

”We believe that inside every rational person, there is a Crackpot Theorist longing to emerge.”
So, is this the mission statement? ( LOL) Where do I join?

”This is a guy who likes to outsource everything, without risking himself.”
I just love how you worded that, Vivi.

Yes, Vivi that does make sense.

Doris,

Trust me. You're already in. [heh heh]

Vivi,

I like it. I wonder how many Reinas there will be before it's all over. I mean, surely the writers are playing with a full deck...

Vivi, I like your theory, it makes a lot of sense. But here is another mystery to add to your list ( I hope this isn't considered a spoiler, if it is please delete it). According to Telemundo's website, Smith is the queen of spades. In most card games spades trump everything. How does this fit into the game? Does this mean that Smith trumps all of the other queens?

Penny

Great Theory, Vivi, I like it, too--hope it's not a Crackpotted one.

Sara--I think I remember Stefi or OLNimoy saying that either a diosa or a reina is immune from the curse. This was said at a time when the diamonds were all still scattered.

It's obvious Big O wants to end up with all of them.

I had mentioned earlier on that it would be to Big O's advantage to have all the diamonds and their owners under one "roof," so to speak, the easier to control them. But then he went and put his two diamonds in a safety deposit box with Reina's name on it, or so he says.

He probably doesn't realize that OBD is really a loose cannon in his plans. She hasn't been able to do very much right, so far.

If we continue in the Crackpot Card Theory, then OBD is the Queen of Clubs.

I hope all Reina fans in the Bay Area are ok after the earthquake there today (and have power). It would be terrible if they missed an episode! ;-)

Ooh! Yes, you all have a point that there must be other queens to have a full suit. Penny- How interesting that Smith is listed as one of the queens- the queen of spades.

Anita- This is absolutely a Crackpot theory-- the best kind of theory! :)

4 queens, 4 diamonds. Coincidence?

Esmeeth is the Queen of Spades, eh? It only makes sense that the writers would go whole hog with the card suit thing. I wonder who the Queen of Clubs is/will be? Susana is a possibility.

It could be that Reina's immunity from the curse of the red diamonds has been expressed as her amazing ability to survive attempts on her life - the same might be said about Navier, though. I'm just not sure that all these attempts on Reina's life and to drive her crazy are the stuff of curses. They are deliberate acts by people with who have specific reasons for wanting Reina dead.

I imagined curse-type calamities as otherwise inexplicable natural events or accidents that happen. For example, unless Greta's equipment was tampered with (for which we have had no hint), her accident is a curse-like event. A skilled performer inexplicably falls. I note that Stefi reading about the cursed red diamond on Wikipedia was intercut with the scenes of Greta's fall, which suggested to me at the time that the fall was curse-related. But the attempts on Reina's life and sanity - not so much.

OT OT OT OT OT
I don't know where to put this but I'm so excited I'm about to pee my pants.

I'm watching El Amor lo Manejo Yo, the Chilean version of Dulce Amore (Argentina)/Hasta el Fin del Mundo(Mexico) and being the good fangirl that I am, I also have "liked" the facebook page.

Well, I just saw on my newsfeed that Jorge Zabaleta is going to be in Dueños del Paraiso, the Telemundo narconovela with Kate del Castillo slated for 2015.

I don't like narconovelas, but I may have to break my rule for Jorge.

(Technically I'll be breaking that rule for Blanca Soto, because I just have to see her in a narco.)

Excellent point about Greata, Jean!!! She is after all the daughter of the Queen of Diamonds and (going only by promo images) the King of Diamonds.

Jean, glad to see you have your priorities in order.

OBD or Susana as a Reina? I don't thinks so. Neither one has sufficient gravitas. Besides, OBD is disposable, a mean girl with a Victoria's Secret body. No, I don't think we've met the 4th queen yet.

CALIFORNIA QUAKE

Jean, I was actually awake engrossed in a thriller mystery novel (another of my not-so-secret vices) when the quake happened. The bed moved back and forth. It lasted quite a while. It was a different movement than the '89 quake, which was a sharp, violent shock. But then I was in a car rather than in bed, so who knows.

I knew right away what it was. I've felt a number of them over my many years living in the Bay Area. But I also knew that it wasn't really close. No books fell off the shelf or anything like what happened in '89. Apparently my house is on pretty stable ground as I had minimal damage even in '89. In '89 my chimney cracked at the roofline, but the bricks didn't come down. My front planter ended up with huge cracks and had to be replaced. And, of course, all the books fell off the shelves.

An article I read this morning said that the '89 quake was 22 times more powerful than the one early this morning.

Novelera,

Thanks so much for checking in with us. I'm so glad to hear you're safe!

Glad you are ok, Novelera. My father was in Santa Cruz when Loma Prieta happened in '89.

Hope all is well in the Napa Valley and Bay Area. There are other recappers and commenters of other tns on Caray out there.

When I said OBD could be the Queen of Clubs, my tongue was in my cheek. I pictured her as some Amazonian dame wielding a big club and taking out some rival gals and hauling off Victor to some cueva.

The promos don't show any cards from the club suit. Too bad, that would have been so much fun.

But surely there is a Queen of Clubs since we're talking about four diamonds and three out of the four Queens in a deck have been mentioned?

Maybe a strip joint is in our future. (Get it? Queen of Clubs?)

Sara- there are still a lot of episodes left, for a Queen of Clubs to have time surface.

novelera - I'm glad you're okay. Thanks for checking in.

Jean, wow! Santa Cruz was HARD hit by Loma Prieta. If I remember correctly, a brick wall of a really great bookstore in downtown Santa Cruz crumbled. There may have been loss of life there. I can't clearly remember. But I do know that downtown Santa Cruz was hit hard.

I have a couple of members of my book club who are married to some of our local venture capitalists, so pretty darn well off. One of them lived in Monte Sereno, and their multi-million dollar house had to be razed to the ground and re-built. It was not habitable after Loma Prieta.

Did your father have major property damage? Or was he hurt?

I'm watching The Maltese Falcon on TCM tonight and I was struck by its onscreen preface:

In 1539, the Knight Templars of Malta, paid tribute to Charles V of Spain, by sending him a Golden Falcon encrusted from beak to claw with rarest jewels ---- but pirates seized the galley carrying this priceless token and the fate of the Maltese Falcon remains a mystery to this day ---

This is what Estefanía read from her computer screen in an early episode:

The story begins where the legend ends: the curse of the fourth red diamond began when one of them became separated from the other three diamonds of the same color. Some say it was in the year 1330; others say it was earlier, when the Rey Mago, the one who never arrived, whose origin was uncertain, disappeared mysteriously together with the fourth red diamond... Only a woman, a goddess, a queen is safe from the curse.

[I think Sydney Greenstreet would have been great as Big O.]

With all the speculation about who the queen of clubs could be, I went to Wikipedia to look up its symbolism. Based on what I read there I nominate Asuncion as the queen of clubs. According to wiki, the queen of clubs is the mother of intuition and also a mother who has to sacrifice her children like Mary did with Jesus. For some reason Asuncion sacrificed her child and left her with her special father. Also, names seem to be important in this novela and in English Asuncion means assumption, as in the Assumption of Mary into heaven. It's an interesting coincidence- or not.

Does this make me an official member of the conspiracy theory club?

Penny

Nice sleuthing, Penny. Pull up a chair at the Crackpot Theorists'™ table. You're among friends.

You could be right about Asunción. I especially like the symbolism of the name.

Personally, I expect Q4 to be a bad girl (like Estefi) to balance off the two good girls (Reina and Esmeeth). Of course, there's a lot we don't yet know about Asunción...

Since I'll be away for a week, I thought I'd give you the latest Wisdom, so we don't get too far behind.

THE WISDOM OF THE DRAGON
Subtitled: I Do Not Make Any Of This Up

Week Seven – Mon Aug 18

A Dragon must have enough pockets to carry listening-device detectors AND great big revolvers.

A Dragon can reassure a damsel to not believe everything other people say about her; but he is likely to ignore that advice when it comes to what people say about her to him.

A Dragon might be able to be the younger sibling of a Black Falcon; unlikely in nature, but in the realm of telenovelas, a real possibility.

A Dragon is immune to “La llamada de la sangre.” To date there is no such detector in the technological arsenal available to dragons in this telenovela.

A Dragon may use the “humble servant mode” to fool some of the people some of the time but it won’t work on all of the people some of the time or some of the people all the time, or …. It’s complicated. Delete, delete, delete.

Reminder: The human lie detecto-meter doesn’t work when it is outside of the service area.

A Dragon can be more like his mother than his father and still be proud of his lineage.

A Dragon can have a dragona daughter he knows nothing about (see above—“La llamada de la sangre”).

A Dragon’s hair is always perfectly in place, regardless of the circumstances (ask me about automobile roll-overs).

A Dragon never runs away from his responsibilities, even when everything is going wrong.

A Dragon can be pretty obtuse at times.

A Dragon does not like to brag, but will accept praise for culinary skills relating to hamburgers, which, according to a certain cute food critic, are delicious.

A Dragon is capable of adjusting to any size of physical space; especially if there is a damsel under him.

A Dragon has buns of steel. (It keeps him grounded.)

When a dragon is hot; he’s HOT.

Dragon Time is unlike Human Time. (It seems to be slower and last longer.)

A Dragon can get confused when his boss acts more like his mother.

A Dragon learns to read people at an early age. It’s harder than reading books. (You have to keep practicing 24/7.)

Thanks Sara! Terrific recap!

Can't wait until tonight.

I loved it. Thanks Anita!

Anita - Thank you for the great update on the WoD! We need to make sure this is at the top of the page for this week's recaps.

Great job, Anita! Safe travels!
