La Malquerida #12: 9/9/14: Ball of Confusion

Hola Amiguis. This recap is done from memory. I didn't take notes so feel free to fill in. I am leaving out the old, including Danevil and getting right to the new. Here is an earworm. Will It Go Round In Circles

Shall we begin?

Now Why Can't he get Squared Away and Fly Right, he's so darn Handsome, it's a Dirty Rotten Shame. We want to like you, but ya know, there are certain lines that don't get crossed, jus' sayin. Stop the sabotage!

Esteban is telling Cris he wants to cancel the boda (wedding). What reason does Esteban give her? Cause her Papa Juan Carlos is in the hospital, that's why. Oh, good one Esteban. Cris reminds Esteban they are not getting married tomorrow. Cris will talk to the Doc to find out what is what. It will fine for them to marry.

Norberto and Juliana and still counting on the courtship of Manuel for Acacia and as a matter of fact, Esteban mentioned his help with this. Later, Norberto and Juliana encourage Manuel to make a play for Acacia, no not that, but go see her they lie thier butts off to Manuel. Norberto also told Juliana this way the Haciendas can work together and Juliana says that their economic problems would be solved.

Acacia has been texting Ulises, they love each other.

Luisa is talking abut the Patrons marrying and for a minute there El Rubio doesn't know what she is talking about. She says the Church. He gives her the stink eye.

Now that the wedding is on again, Cris and Esteban are talking about a baby, did I get that right? Cris is very happy to be marrying in the Church and it's foreva! Esteban is having trouble swallowing.

Ulises Mama Carmen is going to visit Andres the Doc.

Ulises is going to take Acacia to see her Grandpa Juan Carlos in the hospital. Acacia tells Esteban this and also says she met Ulises Mama and she loves Ulises. Esteban warns her to be careful of Ulises.

Ale is washing German's paint brushes, he still wants to know about the scar. It has marked her for life and she's not talking. She wants to go to work. German tells her to wait but she is already out the door. German has painted the Scared Heart of Jesus and put the painting over Ale's bed.

Luisa is sweating blood because today is the day the money if due for the culinary school. El Rubio tells her the Patrons are not coming back today. She tries to get El Rubio to let her use his cell phone, but nothing doing.

Juliana is in her bedroom and pulls a picture out of a book. It is the picture of Andres the Doc and she practcially salivating over it.

Luisa sees Manuel and asks for his help, she explains about the tution and he actually lets her use his cell phone. Acacia gets the text and reminds her Mama the tuition is due today. Manuel even goes to his Mama and asks her if she'll lend the money so the tuiton is paid, no way, she is pithed. But then Cris calls her and asks her if Norberto can stroke a check for Luisa and she'll pay her back as soon as she gets back. She'll do it now. Manuel tells Luisa things are ok. It is taken care of. Luisa and Manuel go to the culinary school. Luisa is nervous, but Manuel thinks she'll do great.

Cris and Acacia are having lunch and Ulises texts Acacia. Acacia tells her Mama all about Ulises' green project. Cris tells Acacia that Juan Carlos and Elena are moving to the Hacienda, where they will be better cared for.

Alfonso has come to see Juan Carlos, he's a member of the board that approved Ulises' project and Esteban is there, and they talk about about Ulises' project and how enviromentally friendly it is.

Esteban is still trying to sow his seeds of doubt. He talks to Juan Carlos about Ulises. Esteban thinks that Ulises isn't sincere. . Juan Carlos introduces him to Esteban. Juan Carlos is doing much better. Esteban will walk Alfonso to the evlevator. He tells Alphonso that Ulises is Acacia's novio, cause now there is a matter of ethics involved. The board should have been made aware. Poor Ulises and poor Juan Carlos. Esteban goes slinking back into Juan Carlos' room and he asks if things are okay? He told Alfonso about Acacia being Ulises novio. Juan Carlos calls Ulises at home and tells him to come visit, he needs to talk to him.

Ale has come home and calls out for German. She sees the Sacred Heart of Jesus painting hanging above her bed and a note apologizing for going into ther room when she wasn't there. She loves it and prays for protection. Later, Ale gives German a big old hug and he tells her no worries, she doesn't have to tell him about her past, he likes her just the way she is. Big Sexy is a wonderful stand up guy.

Cris and Acacia talk to Ulises and he tells them about his brother the event planner. Cris calls him and takes Esteban off to talk about the wedding.

Juan Carlos, Ulises and Acacia have a chat. Acacia fails to see the problem with Ulises appearing before the board, but Juan Carlos said he shouldn't have participated. It has to do with the law.

Rosa has burned herself and wants to know where Luisa has been all day. Since the Patrons didn't pay her tuition her new job is the kitchen. Luisa tells her Manuel paid it. Rosa wants her to go to the school and get that money back and return it to Manuel. Rosa slaps the crap out of her twice. Luisa goes off.

Acacia feels really bad about what happened to Ulises, but Juan Carlos says it was really his own fault. Juan Carlos admires Ulises. Juan Carlos promises to fix it as in taking the blame. He tells Ulises that the most important thing in life is love. Ulises tells Acacia he will find a solution.

Ulises and his Mom Carm talk. He tells her he was cheated and that the project is dead for him. She tells him that the money can be used for another project. They haven't touched it.

Juliana has cornered German again about Ale's inheritance. I do beleive he is playing along. Why the interest he asks her? Just curiosity that's all. Oh, noes. Juliana gives German Danevils bidnez card.

And now for the denoument of the evening. Cris is wanting to know why Esteban is so dead sent against Ulises. Yeah, Esteban we really all want to know. Cris wants to know what the heck is the problem? Esteban says first it was Ulises, then his whole family. Is Carmen going to take care of Juan Carlos? And then the event planning brother. Esteban also says that Ulises has moved too fast with Acacia and there was that violence. Cris thinks that Esteban is wrong. Ulises is a good guy and come to think of it, remember what people said about you Esteban when he was wanting to marry Cris, she says. Later, Esteban brings Cris a rose and it's all forgotten for now.

Manuel and Ulises have a meet. Ulises is mad at him for lying about the fight and reminds Manuel that Acacia loves him and not Manuel.

Manuel has come to see Acacia and of course Esteban thinks his plan is hatching, but Nopis. Acacia has called Manuel there to make it perfectly clear that Ulises is her novio. Cris also talks to Manuel.

El Rubio scares the crap out of Luisa. He thinks the school thing is done too. She tells him nopis, the tution is paid. He isn't happy.

Esteban and Acacia has another chat, about what else? Ulises of course. No community center project for Ulises! We all know who's fault that is!

AVANCES:

Cris is looking at wedding dresses.

Cris is seeing something isn't right with Esteban and Acacia.

Good Early Morning Y'all:

Please enjoy the recap. Please feel free to add the tidbits I missed.

Fabulous recap from memory, Mads! I especially appreciate reading what happened at the end since Univision in my region cut off the last three minutes with commercials and came back half way through the advances. Jerks!

Speaking of jerks…Esteban is definitely in my villain category after this episode! OMG! I can’t believe he did that to Ulises, and then tried to pretend he just accidentally let it slip. I mean, Ulises and his family could lose their home if he doesn’t get this project off the ground. What a rat!

Grandma Rosa was acting like a jerk too, what with the way she seemed happy that Luisa’s dreams had been dashed. I love that Luisa took the initiative and found another way to get in touch with Acacia/Cris and get her tuition paid. Take THAT, Rosa and Rubio! They were like vultures, just waiting for Luisa to fail and come crawling back to her “station” in life.

Clarifications: Ulises’ mom is doing translations of some medical documents for Dr. Andres. I don’t know if she’s translating it from another language of from Spanish to another language. There was definitely some sparks between the two of them. Ulises’ green project isn’t dead. He just did win the competition for funding from this committee. He has to find the rest of the money elsewhere (the house mortgage isn’t enough), but he’s confident her can. He had the choice of dumping Acacia so that he could get the funding for the committee, but he chose love over ambition, and that’s why Juan Carlos was so pleased with him. In a way, Ulises’ plan backfired, because Acacia and Juan Carlos are even more convinced now that Ulises is a good man.

First of all, I love Will It Go Round in Circles. The recap was exceptional Madelaine.

I really liked the screen shot. Is that a recent picture? I'm not familiar with the actor and wonder if he is made to look a bit older here than he really is. He is muy guapo. Sigh...

"Stop the sabotage!" was my favorite line as was "It is the picture of Andres the Doc and she practcially salivating over it".

"Esteban is having trouble swallowing". Indeed! I'm having a bit of difficulty digesting this (smile), simply because it doesn't seem rational that Este's jealous and desperation have ratched to the notch where he is bent on destroying Ulisses. His actions seem worthy of Norberto, not the galan that we are supposed to be rooting for, right??

Thank you for omitting "Danevil" from your summary. Just the mention of that slime is enought to taint the muddiest waters.

Thought a bit of a spark eminated between Andres and Carmen. Hmmm.

Juliana is rather frightening. Her stare, utterly devoid of any warmth and her frigidly cold demeanor make me cringe. Here I thought Norberto was the one to be frightened of.

Note to Juliana: Beware of men who had better and more jewelry than I. (I counted at least two substatial chains, a pendant and several rings on Norbie).

"Big Sexy is a wonderful stand up guy". He is. I have high hopes for him, Juan Carlos, Ulises and Ulises' brother. There is a lot of evil to combat here.

Madelaine, this was fantastic. And of course "Ball of Confusion" was perfect.

Diana

Typo: He *didn't* win the competition.

Actually, he did win, because they all liked his project best. But he has to be disqualified since he's dating one of the judge's family members. Juan Carlos pointed out that at the time he made the presentation, Ulises and Acacia weren't together, and he thought they never would be again. But it doesn't matter because they are dating now. That's when Acacia offered to end things, if Ulises wants to, but he refused.

Thanks for the info on Ulises project Vivi.

I'm glad it isn't dead and have faith in his resourcefulness.

Rosa was exasperating but like you, I cheered when Luisa thwarted both Rosa and Rubio. The sooner she can leave, the better off she will be.

Diana

Diana- Yes. Each episode we get hints that Juliana might be just as evil, or more so, than her hubby. In that bedroom scene, she was clearly manipulating him. He was all excited that she was making the effort to be loving with him, but when her back was turned to him, it was clear she felt nothing for him and was just tolerating him and manipulating him.

It's kind of creepy the way she just walks in on German in his bedroom without knocking. Not that I'm complaining, since she always catches him with his shirt off. :)

I really am starting to consider hunting down the whole episodes and watching them, because I want to know what we’re missing. From the German-Ale scenes that I looked at, I see they are doing some interesting editing of bits and pieces, even in the middle of the scenes. For example:
-In the scene where German comes into the cabin and they talk about her getting so upset that he saw her scar, German points to a scar he has, and talks about how he got it—from a vase shattering on him after Norberto came after him for painting when he was a kid. He speaks about how everyone carries scars from life (mental and physical) and they make us who we are. Ale is moved, but still refuses to talk about her own scars (mental and physical).
-After Ale goes to thank German for the painting and apologizes for being so rude to him, she says she’s not ready to speak about her past. He asks her when she’s ready to please speak to him. It’s not good to keep the things that hurt us bottled up inside, because it ends up harming us. Getting it all out will do her good. Ale doesn’t look totally convinced, but she invites him out for an ice-cream.

Here are the video I watched: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x24z1dr_alejandra-y-german-parte-12_shortfilms

Watching the family scene at the beginning of the video, with muscular German going off to work in the fields, while primped Manuel stays in the house with the parents who are plotting his advantageous marriage, made it seem like Manuel is taking the role of the coddled daughter in an old wealthy family—only valuable in so far as how much money he can marry into. I was glad to see in this video that the brothers made peace, and German admitted that Manuel is right about him keeping his own secrets from their dad.

A bit more on Ale's prayer in front of her Sacred Heart painting:

She asks for help on how to act around German. She had decided never to fall in love, and she knows this is an impossible love, but she does LOVE German!

Her spontaneous hug to German later was the first major physical contact that she's initiated with him (or any man). Big step.

Thanks for all the additional info Vivi. I will watch the video when I am home tonight.

Glad Ale's resolve not to love is faltering. I don't think she could have chosen a better man.

Diana

Vivi:

Thank you most kindly for all the tidbits I missed and the video clip. Maybe Carmen is a medical transcriptionist. Clear language instead of a Doc's notes that are hard to read. You are absolutely right about Rosa and Rubio. I had to laugh when they both thought it was all over for Luisa and nopis it wasn't. I love that Luisa took the initiative and took car of it on her own. I want Luisa to get that cell phone back from Granny.

Diana:

Thank you most kindly. Yes, that is a recent picture of CM. They have made him look older than he really is for this TN. CM is very guapo and I agree with you sigh!

Oh, you are right about Norberto and the jewelry, lol. Out of the two of them, I think Juliana is really the evil one. I think Norbie isn't half as bad as she is.

Vivi:

It is true about Manuel being like the pampered daughter the parents are plotting to marry off to a rich girl. What a change. I don't think that Acacia would have put with him either.

I'm having a real problem with Esteban. Que the hell? He was trying, really trying to bottle up these feelings for Acacia, and now he tries to get close to Acacia as in the constant hugs and now he is sabotaging Ulises and Acacia. Wait until Acacia finds out what he's done. He thought it was bad when she was hating on him, I think it will be much worse. and add Cris to that mix, it won't be pretty. And I had such high hopes for him. We'll have to see I guess.

My favorite couple is Ale and German. I too think Ale is starting to come out of her shell. The prayer was sweet, but I think she's already fallen for German.

Juliana is creepy when she just waltzes into German's little cottage. I wonder if she is trying to catch Ale and German doing something they shouldn't? I'm thinking that when Norbie and Juliana married she must have had the money and Norbie didn't. She wants to vet Ale I think.

I am liking Juan Carlos and Elena. They are both so very sweet. I love the way they support Cris and Acacia. It will be interesting when they move to the Hacienda.

Esteban is NOT the galan (in my eyes). I don't think the writers intend him to be. He's a very gray character. So far, this is how I see the breakdown.

Bad Guys:
Danilo
Norberto
Juliana
Perla
Rubio
Memo/Guillermo (Rubio's cousin)

Gray Characters:
Esteban (getting really close to the villain list)
Rosa
Manuel

Good Guys:
Alejandra
German
Ulises
Cris
Juan Carlos
Elena
Acacia (even though she can be bratty sometimes)
Luisa (even though she can be annoying at times)

New Good Guys:
Carmen (Ulises' Mom)
Ulises' brother (must learn his name)
Dr. Andres (German's bio-dad)

I'm really liking this novela, despite all the "ickyness." Thus far, the main story and the subplots are all interesting or, at least intriguing, without one dominating the other.

On the matter of editing, when I heard they were, I was scared that it would be completely butchered, but I find that the editing has helped cut the fat and move the story at a much faster pace than it would've otherwise had.

Not since Amor Bravio have I been so invested in a novela.

SuperAlfie:

Welcome! I am so glad you are joining us here. It is moving at a good pace, I agree. I just wish they hadn't cut the Alejandra and German scenes. I am really liking them.

Vivi:

I like your list. It's true that Esteban was written as a gray character. He is listed as a galan, so there may be hope for him sooner or later. I'm optimistic. This obsession of his is just not healthy. I hope he wakes up.

Susanlynn:

You were commenting on seeing Adriane Diaz in another TN. I know which one you are thinking about. It would be MEPS. Adriane Diaz was Aurora in that one and she was Santiago's girlfriend, played by Carlos de la Mota. I think the commenters named them "Curls and Sniffles".

Superalfie- The fact that they are only chopping and combining about 15 minutes worth of material each night definitely makes it easier to deal with. And yes, it does make some things move faster, which is good. But it also makes some things move too fast-- like Este's growing obsession with Acacia. I'm sure we are missing all kinds of scenes between them that explains this better. For now, we just have to fill in with our imagination some of that character growth stuff. I just hate for good romantic moments to be cut, and that's why I'm seeking out the Ale-German scenes for now. I'm a romantic, what can I say! :)

Thanks so much, Mads, for the recap. I am still recording this show and watching and reading the recaps when I have a few minutes. Since I have to get up at 5 these days to babysit, I have to go to bed at 10 or sometimes even 9. I do watch Gata at 7 . I am enjoying both shows.

Vivi..Thanks for letting us know about the Ale /German scenes that were cut. I agree that Estebonbon is not the galan. I guess the galan is young Uli. Christian played a similar part in Dona Barbara....married to the mother and smitten by the nubile daughter. I think that he had very short salt and pepper hair in that one....very handsome.

Mads..yes, it was MEPS. thanks. Also. I love that ear worm, but I always thought they were saying "Willy go round in circles." HA...Thanks for clearing that up.

This is really getting good and so are your recaps Madelaine. From
memory? Madelaine, you're amazing.

So Esteban is pushing for a Acacia
Manuel coupling---not good.

Thanks for your good/bad list Vivi
I agree Esteban is in that gray area right now but he keeps pushing the limits of gray.

Diana---You might be right. Is Juliana really the one to fear? Is she really worse than Norberto?
It's starting to look like that.

Thanks again Vivi for the information about the project. I didn't know all the details. Wow!
the house is mortgaged and used as
collateral---not good, but Ulises
choses Acacia over the project.
Acacia has found a real jewel.

So Rosa and Rubio want Luisa to fail. REALLY!!! As I said yesterday, I hope that Luisa becomes world famous. I am really liking this sub-plot. GO GIRL, you're as good as anyone. I hope you learn how to cook crow in your school so that you can serve it to a few deserving people.
the gringo

Madelaine - Terrific recap. My favorite: Esteban goes slinking back into Juan Carlos' room.

That fool Esteban has gone off the deep end. Esteban, look in the mirror. You use to be an upright guy, now you’re a slinking skunk.

I want to smack Rosa. How dare she try to trample on her granddaughter's worthy dream. Makes me wonder how Rosa treated Luisa's parents. Rosa is worried about Luisa advancing and leaving her behind, but surely Rosa knows that at her age it is she that will be leaving Luisa alone. Doesn’t she want Luisa to have a fruitful life after she passes away?

Manuel has promise. I do like the way he helped Luisa, and the two of them have good chemistry. Plus he and German get along, though they fight as siblings do. Wondering if one day, Norberto will spot Manuel's watch on El Rubio.

Perla is on the dark side, but I feel sorry for her. She should've been promoted by now and not still turning tricks herself. And she is in love with Danilo.

Wish Univision would stop editing. There are more than a few interesting players in this TN and it would be nice to see all the character development. Vivi, glad you pointed out that the botched edit of the ending was the local DC station’s fault. I thought I fell asleep and missed something.

On Juliana and Norberto, don’t forget Norbie had Cris’s first husband killed. Juliana hasn’t killed anyone, though who knows what she'll do if she catches Ale and German in a compromising position.

Susanlynn:

Thank you most kindly. You such a fantastic Granny and Mama. To get up at 5:00am! I haven't been up that early in years!

I loved your comment on the earworm. Misheard lyrics are a hoot. It does sound like Willy, lol.

Gringo:

Thank you most kindly.I don't like this pushing Acacia at Manuel at all either. Manuel is a loser. Maybe that is what Esteban is counting on. I can't imagine Acacia being happy with Manuel.

I too am mad that Rosa and Rubio are looking at Luisa to fail. They have no confidence in her. I too want her to prove them wrong. I am very happy that Manuel came through for her even though it was Cris that did. At least he asked his Mama, who knew, even before Cris called Juliana.

I too feel bad for Ulises, but Carmen said they hadn't spent the money, so its still in the bank. At least if he owes anything, the money is there. I don't like that Carmen mortgaged the house. I'm hoping Arturo's event planning bidnez takes off.

I'm really worried about Ale now that Juliana gave German Danevil's card. I can just see poor Ale's reaction to seeing him again. Yuck!

Niece:

Thank you most kindly. Can you tell that Esteban is on my last nerve? He used to be such a stand up guy. He knows what he is doing is wrong, but yet, anyway he can smear Ulises he will. Putz is all I gotta say.

I did feel a smidge sorry for Perla, but then again, I keep remembering what she did to poor Ale. Danevil also has his own obsession, poor Ale. Yucky!

I was quite surprised by Manuel I have to say. Both Luisa and Manuel have chemistry, you are so right. She'd be good for him.

Your right about Norbie killing Alonso. He has killed before and Juliana hasn't. I wonder though was Juliana is capable of.

Not important to the story but Acacia's hair color was mentioned yesterday and it made me curious
as I know that I saw her in dark brown hair in earlier episodes, so I really looked last night. Yes Acacia is now in black hair. Did she go to a beauty salon and get the color changed while the novela was being filmed or is it lighting? I noticed that Cris's and Luisa's hair color changed slightly from scene to scene last night, lighting?
I went to a concert a couple of years ago and filmed the singer on stage who had red hair. In some of the pictures though, her hair came out brown, not red. Was it the way the sun shown down on the stage at different times?
the gringo

Thanks, Mads. I try my best to a good nana...sometimes I am a tired nana, Hub and I arrive at our daughter's house at 6.15 because she has to be at work at 7.30 . We give the girls breakfast and help them get ready. then, we drive the 7year old to school which is about ten mikes away, then, back to take the 4year old to preschool three days a week. Then, home . They end the day here waiting for their mom who usually gets here about 4.30. The saying is "It takes a village to raise a child". Well, it at least takes a family. When you love someone...you can get up at 5..or 4..or 3...etc.

Gringo:

It is the lighting. AD (Acacia) usually has dark brown hair. AZ (Ale) does have black hair. Rubio and Perla are the only ones here I think that has dyed their hair. I have noticed when the actors are in the bright sunlight, their haircolor looks lighter and when indoor, it looks darker. Sabine Moussier (Perla) has the nicest natural hair color, it's sort of tawny colored.

Ale and German do have amazing chemistry, a little longer with them would not be a chore but from just seeing the edited episodes, I think the story is moving good enough (I guess).

The thing with Esteban and Acacia is that I've noticed this obsession growing from the first moment he saw her grown up in episode 4 of the first week.

I think half of it stems from her beauty and the other half from him just simply seeking her approval since she was a young girl. The problem comes from the fact that he finds her attractive, making their relationship more dangerous.

For all Acacia says about Esteban, he is handsome and charming and by giving him a chance she may be falling for the same man her mother fell in love with for the exact same reasons Cristina did.

One thing I love about this novela is that Ulises and Acacia aren't trying to be separated because of social standing but because Esteban knows he can control Manuel so much easier if that match would ever happen, without ever having to reveal his true intentions.

I don't know why Rosa is so mean to Luisa. Some have said she can be annoying but I get it. She's grown up with this man and loves him (despite everything) but at least she's moving on. I say the faster she moves away from Rosa the better.

Right Superalfie---Rosa is sure not helping Luisa at this point.
I think that Rosa's opinions come from old school thinking. It's time for Luisa to strike out on her own as soon as she can.
the gringo

I hope this doesn't seem like a buttinsky comment, but I am so behind on this one and trying to catch up (despite saying I wasn't going to watch.)

Many thanks for the recaps. I may always be a week behind, but I appreciate having the recapps.

Superalfie- Really great analysis of Este and Acacia!

Sara- I also thought I wasn't going to watch, but something about these characters and the story has drawn me in. Plus, I really love the beautiful ranches and the town.

I think part of the appeal for me is that I have absolutely no idea how it will end. No character here is guaranteed a happily ever after, at least not in a typical way.

Vivi- those are the same reasons I keep watching.

Thanks, Vivi!

Honestly, there is no way for anyone here to get a happy ending without someone else getting the short end of the stick.

And that's only IF someone even gets a happy ending.

I didn't see LQLVMR but the finale wasn't a typical happy ending.

Then again, some characters don't care if they build their happiness on the pain of others.

@Vivi
I agree completely. It takes away from the magic or the "spark" of the relationship to constantly cut scenes. I think I will follow in your footsteps and check out some online vids. ;)
