Bringing Down The House: Don Fernando On The Warpath

(In two parts.....)

Parte 1~~

Once the kids explain to Don Fernando all the nasty names Isabela called Sebastian and why, and once he hears that she actually pushed Seb down so that he fell on the floor, he sees red and races off towards their bedroom in search of his wife.  “—How dare you insult my kids, put yourself in their mother’s place, not to mention throw Seb, pushing him so he’d fall to the floor!??”  Isabruja lies that Seb is making things up to separate her from DF.  He almost believed it, he tells her but not now after this.  “—And, you are so far from being able to take their mother’s place!  You know, I really regret having ever married you!”  (Cheers emit from the whole of Viewerville.)   He storms out and into the hall.

Yolanda races from her room to ask what the hubbub is all about.  Fernando tells her to ask her daughter, not him.
Downstairs, in the kitchen, Bruno explains to Manuela about his broken heart and how he’s still a—“EEEEEK!!”—virgin.  Nope, he and his one true love never did actually get to make love.  He just was sooooo hurt that he was emotionally and physically dead towards women—until now, now that he’s found another woman who has awoken those feelings in him again…..
Over at Telerisa…Televisa,  Johnny tells his sob story about losing Edna’s phone number to the receptionist.  She takes pity on him and finds it again for him.  He calls Edna and invites her to coffee.
Meanwhile, Ana accompany’s Fanny to the professional career counselor so she can take a few tests to determine her likes and dislikes and match them to possible career paths/fields of study.
Isaboo-hoo tries calling El Quickie del Enrique who refuses to answer his cell while he’s making goo-goo eyes at Linda.  They’re in the middle of a let’s-destroy-Fernando strategy session to be continued at her place later that evening.  Yo-low comes in and finds out the squabbling was all about.  It’s another “—I told you so!  You had to screw around with those kids!  And now, when it’s discovered how we lied to the nana about me being her mother…..!”
Downstairs, the kids are quaking.  They’ve been told that any more mischief and he’ll be hiring a different nanny.  They race to Don Nico and Tio Diego, crying over the threats their fearsome father has made.
Ana gets called into the library for a conference with Don Fernando.  He asks if she knew about the “engendro” incident.  Ana admits that she did.  He scolds her for holding back information and for allowing so much mischief to take place under his nose in his own house.   “—I’ll raise my children and your business is to insure discipline.  Is that clear?”
Seb finally tells his father that none of this would have happened if Isabela hadn’t stolen the twins’ homework and forced them to get zero’s for grades.
Ana’s crying now along with the kids over the threats to fire her.  (Cute scene, actually).  DF promises Seb he’ll take it up with their teacher.  He calls Ana back into the library.  Did she know about the homework incident?  Once again, yes, but he was so busy with the stresses of his job that she thought best not to bother him, she tries explaining.  He gets upset again at that.  He suddenly confesses to her that it’s been his fault for marrying a woman his children never wanted, “and that I don’t love.”  Ferd then explains that he’s threatened to fire her if they try any more mischief, but that it’s an empty threat meant only to keep them in line because he never wants her to leave.
Ana, though, remembers Isa’s threats to have her thrown out for incompetency saying that her husband supposedly never was convinced in her abilities as a nanny.  She accuses him of suffering from multiple personality syndrome and squabble their way through a bit more.  Then, they look into each other’s eyes at some point.  He mumbles something and goes in for The Kiss-s-s-s but manages to get control of himself, pulling away just as Diego walks in to see what the matter might be.  Ana recovers and summarizes the nana discipline situation in a very businesslike voice and then leaves the room with Diego in tow.
Isaboob finally has El Quicky de Ricky on the phone and has a torrent of angry tears over DF’s scolding.  Why couldn’t he pick up the phone when she called him before?????  He was with Linda, he explains, in a ‘planning session.’  She relates her version of the crap hitting the fan.  “—That’s your problem.  You’re the one who fell in love with the man.”  She can’t be useful unless she can learn to control her emotions, he tells her.  Isa hangs up and cries angrily about wishing Ana were dead and out of her way!  (So pre-teen and Saturday-morning-teenie novela-ishhhhhh!  Ugh!)

Downstairs again, Ana explains to Diego, Fanny,  Don Nico and Jen’s about the threat to fire her and replace her as a discipline ploy for the kids.
==========================
Parte 2~~
The five adults all agree to keep mum about the dancing at El Chicago.
Upstairs the littler kids agree amongst themselves that they’ll have no choice now but to behave or suffer the consequences of losing Ana.
Nando returns home from another day with Ximena.  Don Fernando takes Nando into the library now for a scolding about missing school and screwing up his grades.  His only job is going to school—not worrying about Xime, DF orders.  He’s no longer permitted to see Xime.  However, Nando refuses.  “—Get your priorities straight, Nando.  You’re falling through a black hole.  Do you know what those are?”  Yep.  And it will destroy him.  He understands the analogy and will try getting himself turned around.
Fanny takes it upon herself to warn Isabrooding off the kids and Ana.  Isa sneers back but Fanny rubs it in by confessing she’s happy her father never fell in love with her and pushing Isa out of her way as she makes her grand exit.    Isa tells herself that these people still don’t know yet what she’s capable of.
Edna and Johnny are still on coffee break --two hours or more later.  She admits she doesn’t need or want any more special boyfriends.  All they ever want is to hop into bed with her for a one-night stand.  (Gees.  Ya think?)  So did he, he admits under his breath.  She gets all self-righteous (in a air headed, brain dead, sort of way) claiming that just because she poses nude doesn’t mean she’s some sort of whore!!  (No? I don’t believe there are any shades of gray here—er…fig leaves---to hide behind here, Edna dearie.   You’re still getting paid for posing provocatively for pictures which some guy is still purchasing to get his “jollies” with.  Nope.  All she wants is a friend.
Bety has Leon sign some form about his messenger duties.  (Insurance since he rides his motorbike on company bidnez or what?)
Back in the Lascurain loony-bin, Bruno admits to Mani that he doesn’t like the idea of her carrying somebody else’s baby in her belly.
Alicia has a temper tantrum over not having more grown up clothing, especially to wear to Abuela’s wedding.  She races into Isa’s room to whine.  Isa trash talks about how Ana’s got trashy, uncouth and off-the-rack tastes while Isa has good taste and knows all the best brands.  She’ll take her shopping for a wardrobe.   Great, says Ali.  She really loves Isa even though the others don’t like her one bit.  They hug.  Don Ferd walks in on the bonding part after the trash talk, natch.  He relaxes now.  Isa thinks to herself that she’s got Ali as an ally in the coming family wars.
Reeky hires a shady computer geek to photo shop his two pictures and threatens the guy with a hideous “accidental” death if he fails him.
The next day Jens and Nico discuss wedding invitations, having already found her dress.  (Zzzzz!)    --Oh yeah, the kids talked Ana into putting on a wedding dress as a lark and Diego taking her picture in it while Jens was paying for hers.  Ana warns it could be bad luck to but does it anyway.  Could it be a bad-news-for-Diego alert?  To be continued…..

Ana races into the house past Don Nico and Jens and up the stairs, straight into Yo-Low’s bedroom.  She switches off the t.v. on the old gal and starts screaming at her, waiving a document around in her hands.  “—You two snakes!  I’m glad I am not really related to you two!  If I were I’d take all those seeds and nuts you’re snacking on and force them down your throat so’s you’d choke to death on them!!  But I’m not so I won’t!!!”

Jardinera, here is what i remember about Fernando/Ana alone in library...
Fernando mad at Ana for not telling him about Isa threatening... He suddenly calms down a little and asks Ana if it is true Sebas asked her to promise him she would not tell Fer. She explains yes, but that as soon as she found out what had happened she went right to Isa and even gave her a push... Fernando comes over her shoulder very firmly and says 'I will take care of Isabela, you take care of my kids...'
and the whispering scene was after he said he was married to a woman his kids despised and that he doesn't love. Ana rebutted basically that he got what he asked for by marrying Isa... then he says he did not know about all the things Isa had done to his kids... and Ana confirms that Isa is THAT nasty. then Fer says 'i can't take it anymore... "yo la..." (meaning I [blank] you)... in spanish in this context you say the verb last so the 'love' word was what he had to swallow and stop himself from saying... then he says 'i have something that i need to tell you'. walks around his desk and says 'i made a mistake marrying Isabela. I should have fought for us (pointing to the both of them with his hand)..' (and at that moment is when Diego makes his entrance and Fer rolls his eyes looking up. Diego asks what is up and Fern explains they were talking about the kids... and Ana says 'and we are done talking, right? you just want me to look after the kids and tell you anything that goes on with them, especially if Isa has to do with it.'

Ana rebutted basically that he got what he asked for by marrying Isa...
he replies he did not CHOOSE to marry Isa, it was his duty... and she says YOUR DUTY is to the seven kids you have AND that one on the way. Or what did you think that what they need is an unhappy dad?

have to say LOVED LOVED that scene at the end when Fernando drinks some water and leaves the glass there, Ana makes a whisper comment about Fernando always serving himself a drink and never finishing it, then she passes the entire surface or the glass through her lips as if collecting any remains of him there... Even Manuela noticed it and commented that she did not know how Ana can stand living in the same house with the man she loves...
the whole thing of Ana brushing her lips through the entire glass surface had me cracking up laughing.

Jardinera, thanks so much, your recap covered all points and captured the full scope of Fernando's wrath...which was pretty awesome. In contrast I found the scene of Ana sobbing along with the kids to be very cute and funny, just the right touch of humor to offset Fernando's anger.

When Isa was throwing her fit, she threw herself on the bed and said "I wish Ana were dead". A creepy bit of foreshadowing, I fear, along with her statement "They don't know what I'm capable of!" (Shudder--yes we're beginning to get an idea.)

J in Oregon

I'm glad that Fernando finally stood up to Isabruja but what he did in telling the children that he would hire another nanny to replace Ana, if there was anymore mischief, was abusive.

Thank you, Jardinera, for the wonderful recap!

I have a question: was Fanny considering pursuing a career as una nana, like Ana? Or were she and Ana explaining to the career counselor that Ana was her nana?

Poor Diego. I worry about him. I really don't want for him to get hurt by unrequited love and his brother again.

Unfortunately, Fer witnessed Isabruja being a "nice" frenemy to Alicia. Fernan-duh will be duped about his wife's intentions and true bruja nature again.

Thanks for the recap!

At the very end of the episode Ana has received the paperwork from the dna lab saying she isn't Yomama's. Well done dna quick lab! So she comes in the front door and marches up to Yomama's room and confronts her. Tonight's episode should be another good one!

yes in tonight's ep Diego and Nico tell Fernando what Isa/YoMama did to Ana and he takes off again to rant some more at Isa... lets hope he does not backtrack all that anger and caution toward how he takes anything Isa says or does toward the kids or toward Ana.

I can't believe Fer told Ana he "should have fought for us"! Wow. I'm really surprised he admitted that.

Part 2 is up now also. Maybe some of your questions have been answered. I couldn't stop to listen again to all the details of the library scene, just to get the gist of it and it seems I missed some again. It's very difficult understanding Silvia's fast chatter. I think I get so frustrated with her that I mentally fast-forward the discussions and miss some of the good stuff because of it. Sorry.

Thanks so much, J. And thanks to Marta for yesterday's great work. I never got a chance to comment.

I loved the scene when laid-back and sweet Diego went into the study to rescue Ana. Nice contrast with bombastic and desperate Fernando.

Here we ago again with Alicia. I wonder what Fernando will make of this now that he has heard Isabela in action.
Ecuador - You are no doubt right that he will be duped again.

So Yolanda is changing a bit, little by little. Still a shrew. I loved Ana's explanation of what she would do with all of those little nuts and other foods if she WERE Yolanda's daughter.

I should add that her chipmunk chatter AND the slang the writers so freely throw into this script also do a number on me. I barely remember the scene with Mani and her and the glass. But yeah, I do remember what Mani said as she exited the kitchen, but didn't catch the gibberish Silvia spilled out first and so thanks, again Martai for all clarifications.

Jardinera...
• Bety has Leon sign some form about his messenger duties. (Insurance since he rides his motorbike on company bidnez or what?)

the way i heard it, Leon at first got scared that they were already firing him again, then Betty explained that he was getting a company paid UNIFON with unlimited usage ... so it was basically a PSA for Unifon Mex.

it was tender and funny that Ana was crying along with the twins as they were telling Fer about the notebooks Isa destroyed and Ana told Fer that thanks to that the teacher gave 'US' zeros.

At the end of the ep Fernando comes in the kitchen and tells Ana that he spoke with the twins teacher and they will be able to re-submit the notebooks for grade and Ana realizes they will have to redo all the work that is no longer there... (this is when Fernando drinks some water and leaves the glass there).

It was also funny when they told Fernando about Isa destroying the notebooks he asked ' Is there ANYTHING ELSE I don't know about things Isa does around here??'

What is bothering me is that Fer keeps saying "I married a woman my kids hate", but what he doesn't get is that he married a woman who hates his kids.

Jardinera, thanks for the wonderful recap. I loved "El Quickie de Enrique."

So glad that Fernando finally took control of his own household and got everyone on the same page with the kids and discipline. Unfortunately the "threat" to fire Ana is probably the only thing that would keep the kids in line at this point.

It will be curious to see how Manuela reacts to Bruno not wanting her to be a surrogate.

I loved Yolanda dealing with Isabela after her run in with Fernando and the mess she had created. It was a combo between "I told you so" and incredulity that Isabela couldn't get along with the kids. In spite of everything, I still like Yolanda and did not like when Manuela gave her the too hot tea later after she started to tell Bruno and Manuela about her life.

Seeing Carmen Salinas here and a huge sale on rompope at my local grocery, it brought back pleasant conversations we had here about Chatita (Salinas character) and her rompope in PEAM. Pablo was the rompope expert!

Anyway, it looks like Ana has found out that Yolanda is not her mother and that subplot has ended quickly.

Msure hope the Johnny/edna subplot disappears just as quickly.

Jarifa

Great work, Jardinera. I admit I sometimes find Sylvia's faster speech challenging. But the slang really screws me over.

Glad along with everyone else that this issue of the maternity deception has quickly been resolved. Ana does not deserve what these two brujas were looking to dish out. However, since Isabully's hatred is escalating we can only expect worse from her in the next few weeks.

Fernando needs to see his lawyer toute suite.

Jardinera. So much happens in one hour I can't keep up and thankfully got you.

Urgh, it made me so mad when Fernando threatened replacing Ana if the kids didn't stop pranking Isabela.

Isabela - oh, you'll regret it alright

Manuela - sooooo Nando got some before you

Ricky - playground bully

Bruno - make womb for me

Juan - looking for love in all the wrong pages

Fernando - clean up your room or I'll burn the house down

Diego - shout at my gf again and get a knuckle sammach

Nic - these are wedding invitations not flyers for a wet T Shirt contest

Fanny - your sister needs fashion tips

I hate that Fernando keeps treating Ana like a "lowly" employee instead of a truly valued member of the family, which is what Ana is. It seems a sign of his snobbish attitude which, agreed, he is trying to change due to Ana's help.

Thanks Jardinera, I feel your pain in trying to decipher what Silvia Navaro says. She's a fast talker and a slang user, not a good combo for a recapper.

Thanks Marta for the further explanation about Fernando's glass in the kitchen. I couldn't figure out what Ana was doing with it.

So Bruno isn't Ana's father either, darn!

I'm glad that Isa's dirty deeds are finally getting aired. It's about time.

Good point Carvivlie about Fer marrying someone who hates his kids. That's it exactly. They hate her because she hates them, and they know it.

Carvivlie, "'I married a woman my kids hate', but what he doesn't get is that he married a woman who hates his kids."

That is a great observation and why Fernando will be fooled again after observing Isabela cooing over Alicia.

If thet keeping wrapping up storylines as fast as they did with the Yoyo/Ana momma thing, what will we have in store for another ~150 episodes?

I don't see Fatima commenting, so is a Crackpot Theorist™ table out of the works?

I don't think Fernando is mistreating Ana. His threat was for the kids' benefit because that is likely the only thing that will keep them in line. He's tried revoking privileges and that didn't work.

If I were Ana I would instruct the kids to be coldly polite to Isabruja and leave the room when she enters --except for the dining room. They should not allow her to throw them out of there. Otherwise they should ignore her completely. That could keep the peace until the baby is born and (we hope) tested to make sure that Fernando is its father. I suspect he isn't and that would be perfect grounds for a Catholic divorce.

Has anyone else noticed that they've only shown the family at the dinner table one time?

Since Fernando comes home early, surely they eat together as a "family". I wouldn't think the insect in Isabruja's soup stopped them from having dinner together.

Fernando needs to see his lawyer toute suite.
yes, UA, i was thinking the same thing... just like he got together with his lawyer ASAP after he got home from honeymoon, he needs to get with lawyer ASAP and give Isa a big blow by leaving her the least possible... with or without prenup he had all his fortune before they married.

Carvivlie et al... totally agree that her observation that Isa hates the kids and that is WHY they hate her... he needs to get that slapped right up his nose and he better not fall for Isa's script with Alicia... Alicia needs a talk about Isa and what she is trying to do with her sooner rather than later. I wish Ana could tell Alicia SHE would get her a new wardrobe... yes, Alicia needs it but it does not need to be top brands and it does not need to be used as excuse to slap social differences in Ana's face.

Victoria, I also agree on your observation that Fernando treats Ana like a cardboard employee... usually... there was one moment where he complimented her 'excellent' job she was doing with the kids (this is when Ana remembered Isa had told her Fernando considered her incompetent as nanny and was looking for an excuse to fire her). Fernando needs to give Ana her due respect and her due place in the 'family' all the time, not just when he is mad at Isa or talking to the kids in private. Ana has heard most of his compliments for her not directly but when he talks to the kids and doesn't even realize she is listening. He needs to be consistent... it is like Ana told him, that he has multiple personalities... and Diego is totally right in that Fernando needs to control himself and stop shouting to Ana and the staff... it is not their fault that he screwed his own life and his kids by marrying that poor excuse of a woman he can't even put in same ballpark as Estefania... I liked his expression and outrage when Isa insinuated she was taking the role of Estefania... NO WAY NO HOW

Fernando used the nuclear option on the kids and didn't have the complete story. Ana is a nanny in job description only. To those kids she is their mother (he knows that) and for him to threaten to send her packing was a low blow. I agree he'll get his desired outcome because the kids believe there is truth behind his threat. Ana does too. Fernando has already sent her home on Isabela's prompt, though it was rescinded, and not a stretch for him to fire her on impulse.

Tofie,
but last night Fernando cleared up to Ana that his threat to the kids was just for the kids, that he really wants her to stay... and needs her around (utterly selfish on his part, yes... but he did tell her)

and Ana told Diego, Nico, Jenn and I believe Fanny that she knew Fernando was not really meaning it for her, just to try to get the kids to stay in line.

Jardinera, thank you for an exceptional recap. "(Cheers emit from the whole of Viewerville.)"; "Isaboo-hoo" and "(No? I don’t believe there are any shades of gray here—er…fig leaves---to hide behind here, Edna dearie" were among my favorites.

Some righteous anger (at long last) from Fernando. I also don't blame him for being upset with Ana for not telling him what's gone on. He is their father and deserved to know. Ana was trying to protect Sebas but if Fernando hadn't found out, something else might have occurred.

tofie, "Bruno - make womb for me" was hysterical.

And Carvivlie, "'I married a woman my kids hate', but what he doesn't get is that he married a woman who hates his kids" was astute and spot on.

I don't know that I would have forbiddent Nando to stop seeing Ximena all together. But, finally, Fernando's eyes are open. Let's hope he starts being vigilent.

Diana

Marta, I heard that also. Yes, he cleared it up with Ana and Ana told everyone the same but I just think it creates an element of mistrust unnecessary especially since Isabela has said exactly the same thing. The kids are another matter and I don't believe will forget this. Ana is their mother and he threatened separating them from her.

Somehow Alicia is being left out of the family business. All of the kids know, except maybe Nando, what Isa did to Sebs but Alicia seems to be completely ignorant of this fact. I can't imagine she would be happy to know what Isa said to Sebs. Maybe it is middle child syndrome and no one recognizes she's not around.

Thanks for la segunda parte, Jardinera. I didn't catch the dialogue between Johnny and Edna. (Really? Edna the centerfold? In my mind, that name/title evokes images of geriatric porn. Ja ja.)

Tofie - If I haven't noted it before, your daily, snarky character comments crack me up. How do you think of them? Today's winners:
(1) Bruno - make womb for me

(2) Juan - looking for love in all the wrong pages

Thanks but don't know EB. Stupid stuff just pops in my head

Thanks, all. Meant to thank you for all the interesting follow up to last Friday's epi also. An enjoyable list of comments to read through, tho' alas, not till the new epi had already aired. --Especially liked last weeks comments from Mt. Olympus BTW.
====

RFOL Tofie. You and Mattie share a rare talent with those song link-ups!

==========
Diana: I'm actually wondering if the writers were serious or pulling our chain about Edna's ability to compartmentalize her posing for centerfolds and her not considering herself as immoral/amoral or an otherwise socially/religious outcast.

Thanks, Jardinera! An excellent recap of an important episode.

Can't believe they established Yolanda as the NOT-mama so quickly. Maybe she'll feel a little bad about pulling such a trick, even if Isobel doesn't.

Yolanda needs to watch her behavior. You know she enjoys all the little luxuries of living in Fernando's house.

“Why didn't you tell me Yolanda wasn't Ana's mother? Zeus, I don't appreciate not being told anything that important.”

“I'm sorry, Hera. But wasn't her reaction hilarious?”

“It was. And pathetic at the same time.”

“Good work, daughter,” Zeus said to Athena. “Ana's friends have served her well.”

“Indeed. Except that what happens when Jennifer marries Nicolás? She will have to move in with them to continue to be helpful. Someone will have to make those harpies squirm.”

In another area, there was some conflict.

“Eros, you fell down on the job! Where were you when Bruno needed you all those years ago?”

“Sorry, Mum; I needed to find Psyche. We had a fight and she ran off to Apollo.”

“Well, as you can see there have been dire consequences. Bruno hasn't had a normal life. He should have been able to love and be loved.”

“I said I was sorry! And anyway don't you think Manuela is worthy of him?”

“Worthy isn't the issue. Women her age aren't used to this situation. She's going to need some help because she's going to have to learn patience. You know that's not her long suit.”

Sorry about the crazies. Zapped

Jardinera, they always seem to come with your recaps, I wonder why.
