La Gata #37 10/21/14 La Molestia
The least important stuff
- Rita's suitor is still around, but Rita is getting discharged so...whatever.
- The Meatball is still around. I think he's teaming up with Garabato, but he brought his gang to the pizzaria and took advantage of Meatball. Yelling. Threats...whatever. (Meh. This should probably be filled under "Important"...whatever)
- Esme and Jarocha have a long conversation.
- Esme and El Silencioso have a long conversation. The MNs should be kissing the ground you walk on. Blah blah blah.
- Augie had another attack, but he's not dead. Dorila made him chamomile tea that tasted like arsenic. This was right after he said he wanted to hire a hit man and be done with FDLSC already. Dorila has a quick line about always staying quiet. Will this turn out to be important?
- Virginia visits Esme. She keeps calling her "cuñada." Kind of sweet.
- A beggar woman asks Pablo for some money. He obliges. She gives him an origami flower. He invites her to lunch and tells her his troubles. The actress is really familiar to me and it's driving me crazy trying to figure out where I've seen her before.
- Damian seems to have become El Silencio's goon/muscle. He beats that bald guy to a pulp and Pablo and Esme are there to hear the confession: Augie was the "brains" behind Operation Selfie.
- Mariano tells Lowrenza that Pablo knows everything about Operation Selfie. Lowrenza doesn't deny it. Mariano has some lines.
- El Silencioso and the lawyer Osorio have a long conversation. The MNs will NOT mess with his hija. Give them the offer they can't refuse-Publicly admit their guilt, accept Esme in their home and announce her engagement to Pablo. (PS: Augie can refuse it, but...Lowrenza? Maybe not)
- The Martinez Negretes seem to have forgotten the most important plot point: The household does indeed revolve around Pablo. That's why we're all in this mess! But tonight everyone is screaming and bleating about it always being Pablo, Pablo, Pablo! Augie says he's always been a headache.
- Pablo confronts Augie and they have lines. Lowrenza breaks up the fight and Augie leaves. Parallel scenes with Augie drinking and renouncing his son while Lowrenza asks Pablo if it will help if she and Augie accept Esme and his engagement to her. Well, of course it will help. Lowrenza says they'll do it....but asks Pablo not to say anything just yet. She asks him to wait until the day of the gathering to actually propose. I guess he agrees? Anyhoo...he heads to Esme's house and FINALLY gets to meet the babies!!
Looks like the writers will be working my nerves again tomorrow.

The Meatball/Garabato thing was SO not important...it's all part of Meatball's ongoing quest to stay relevant by continually threatening to kidnap Gata and trying to find out her whereabouts from anyone he thinks has even a remote connection to her or to anyone vaguely associated with her (in this case, Ines). See? You could have lived without knowing that. And you probably would have been happier.
The more Augie whines about how he'd rather be dead...and then has chest pains...and then refuses to let Lorenza call the doctor...the more I wish he'd just keel over already and put me out of his misery.
Also, every time Lorenza yells at Virginia I want some overpriced tchotchke to fall off a shelf and conveniently hit her in the head.
Jarocha was kind of hilarious about how she's totally cool with Pablo for not ratting her out and how he's "changed" so much from before.
I'm glad that the novela is finally over in Mexico, and I can't wait for the ending to be aired here in the States, so when the recap of this is posted, I can finally comment on how I felt about it.
I'm also anticipating the recaps from where I left off, onward towards the finale, to catch up with where I left off.
La Diva del Desierto, 5ft Latina - Agreed. The scene between Meatball (die already I can't stand you!) and Garabato was useless.
And I can't stand that tacky arrangement of what appears to be the Godfather's theme every time he is on screen. Make it stop already, it gets on my nerves!
You were right, Sara, the title of this recap fits in with how much that musical piece gets on my nerves. It is a Molestia. A real one too.
Also, I agree with 5ft Latina, no need to fill in anything, you pretty much got in everything that happened.
Anyone else feeling like one of the "danger" themes is straight out of "The Hunger Games"?
Ana Brenda or Maite Perroni? Not on your life. Besides I want to see what Augie comes up with next.
Will Pablo and Esme have another falling out as things unfold? I'm sticking around and one or two slow episode's won't budge me from the La Gata Patio.
Sara you hit all of the things that took place tonight. You did fine.
I did wonder about one thing though---Why didn't Damian march the kidnapper off to the police station?
Oh, one more thing. Is Gata going to start listening to Fernando now?
the gringo
"Why didn't Damian march the kidnapper off to the police station?" Because beating him to a pulp was more fun?
"Is Gata going to start listening to Fernando now?" Hmmmmm...this one, I dunno...depends on whether it's convenient.
And I'm really not bored with most of the stories. I can handle cliches. What I can't stand is now irrelevant characters still torturing me.
I did forget to mention that Monday's swimming preview was a red herring. It actually turned out to be a flashback. And what was she wiping up? Príncipe pee?
Oh boy, they didn't even try to hide it last night, everyone is jogging in place waiting to cross the street but they never cross because they were never going anywhere to begin with.
Pablo - we get it Copernicus
Jarocha - who signs your check
Lorenza - if this doesn't work, I'll offer myself to Fernando
Mariano - a little more obvious
Virginia - the grass ain't any greener across the street
Rita - dispense with sweet talk, talk dirty to me
Meatball - ask Augie's henchman how the kidnapping went
Garabato - foraging troops
Damian - yell at her again pretty boy
Twins - that's dada, bummer
Augie is falling on every front imaginable, physically, psychologically, public image, intrafamily, etc. I am loving seeing his slow descent into infamy. I wonder what he was before he launched his career as a thieving shyster, and by what means he became respectable.
Jarocha is becoming the perfect go between for so many areas of interest.
I hope el Silencioso can give Virginia a pass. She and Esme were so sweet together during her visit, and she is incapable of hurting anyone (with the possible exception of anyone trying to hurt Carlos.)
tofie, your list was great as always.
Mariano is really turning to the dark side. Totally self absorbed, and he has Dad's example as to how to proceed.
David
Anyway, yes, bang up job getting all the details. You did far better than the episode deserved!
I HATE MEATBALLS!
I CAN'T STAND THE USELESS POLE-PUSHING FLASHER.
If I were a drinking woman I'd sure start slinging back shots for "Maldita Gah-tah!"
I, too, love your loyalty gringo!
Tofie, this cracks me up: "Lorenza - if this doesn't work, I'll offer myself to Fernando". Hee Hee!
And yes, Damian sure did beat the sh!t out of d!ck-head: public service to the police department. All they had to do was pour him into a cell.
Now. I don't know if my receptive Spanish has gotten way better or were the MNs speaking especially distinct, perfectly enunciated Spanish last night, even when yelling? Especially Lowrenza! For that alone I hope she sticks around.
Thanks again dear Sara!
Lila
I hate Meatball so much, although I think I hate Garabato more. His entire kidnapping scheme is so lame. His pizza stand is symbolic of the low standard of living in the dump neighborhood.
On the other hand, the acres of marble in the foyer of Los Martinez Negrete is symbolic of the pretentious standard of living in the rich neighborhood. I need to see Dorila down on her knees polishing that marble everyday.
Pablo was sweet when he nuzzled his baby.
La Paloma, I was happy to read your comment about Pablo. I felt the same way. I took my blinders off long enough to see that he may be stupid but he has the ability to be a caring person and a loving father.
I enjoyed Damian's beatdown and torture of the bald goon, but I do worry what is to become of him. Damian is supposed to be a lawyer, not an enforcer.
I've never seen Lorenza in any novela before. I think she's a good actress. Her meaness is so realistic. Even her wardrobe seems like it belongs personally to her.
What's with Damian? I can't help but think he's in love with Esme even if he doesn't realize it. He's a bit too invested in her well being not to be. I was surprised how badly he beat the kidnapper. The kicking especially I thought was overkill.
I was wondering what was with that swim scene. It was so out of place since our couple isn't even close to having that type of closeness.
Niecie, Damian is heading into dark territory, isn't he. It's troublesome.
Sara, I echo your frustration with the conversations that don't go anywhere. Sometimes I end up on autopilot just furiously typing and trying to keep up with what they're saying, and then I look and it's five minutes of "But I love him/but he done me wrong" that's nothing but a continuation of yesterday's argument that went nowhere.
I too was highly disturbed by how much pleasure Damian got from beating the crap out of that guy, and I thought, hey, he'd make a better hit man than a lawyer.
Daniel Arenas is wonderful with babies. His interactions with the little ones in CI was one of the (few) highlights. I'm glad Pablo finally got to cuddle and chat with his babies.
Garabato finds out Meatball is his bio dad and delivers pizzas.
